Abstract
To address the food safety issues caused by toxins, we established a fluorescent copper nanocluster biosensor based on magnetic aptamer for the visual and quantitative detection of ZEN. Specifically, we utilized the docking-aided rational tailoring (DART) strategy to analyze intermolecular force and interaction sites between zearalenone (ZEN) and the aptamer, and optimize the long-chain aptamer step by step to enhance the binding affinity by 3.4 times. The magnetic bead-modified aptamer underwent conformational changes when competing with complementary sequences to bind with ZEN. Then, the released complementary sequences will be amplified in template-free mode with the presence of the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), and generating T-rich sequences as the core sequences for the luminescence of copper nanoclusters. The luminescence could be visualized and quantitatively detected through ultraviolet irradiation. The proposed label-free aptasensor exhibited high sensitivity and specificity, with a low limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 ng/mL.

Abstract
Rapid control of the content of Parkinson's drugs in biological fluids and pharmaceutical formulations is of great importance because changes in the concentration of these drugs affect their bioavailability and biopharmaceutical properties. Therefore, we presented a simple and convenient method for the ratiometric detection of carbidopa and levodopa for carbon dots (CDs) dual-fluorescent emission. Dual-emission CDs were prepared from chitosan using a microwave method, following which the surface was chemically modified with terephthalaldehyde. CDs had two strong well-separated peaks at 445 and 510 nm. The relative measurement of carbidopa and levodopa was based on the static extinction of CDs at 445 nm and increase at 510 nm, respectively. The linear range for carbidopa measurement was 2.5-300 nM, with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.1 nM, and a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.68%. Further, the linear range for levodopa measurement was equal to 3.0-400 nM, with LOD and RSD% of 2.8 nM and 3.5%, respectively. Also, selectivity of ratiometric sensor in the presence of interferences was investigated, which showed that the recovery of carbidopa and levodopa in serum and urine samples has changed between 96.80% and 116.24% with RSD% 0.11-0.77. CDs also provided good results for the determination of carbidopa and levodopa in real samples, and had high selectivity in the presence of possible interferences.

Abstract
Bacterial vegetative cells turn into metabolically dormant spores in certain environmental situations. Once suitable conditions trigger the germination of spores belonging to the pathogenic bacterial category, public safety and environmental hygiene will be threatened, and lives will even be endangered when encountering fatal ones. Instant identification of pathogenic bacterial spores remains a challenging task, since most current approaches belonging to complicated biological methods unsuitable for onsite sensing or emerging alternative chemical techniques are still inseparable from professional instruments. Here we developed a polychromatic fluorescent nanoprobe for ratiometric detection and visual inspection of the pathogenic bacterial spore biomarker, dipicolinic acid (DPA), realizing rapidly accurate screening of pathogenic bacterial spores such as Bacillus anthracis spores. The nanoprobe is made of aminoclay-coated silicon nanoparticles and functionalized with europium ions, exhibiting selective and sensitive response toward DPA and Bacillus subtilis spores (simulants for Bacillus anthracis spores) with excellent linearity. The proposed sensing strategy allowing spore determination of as few as 0.3 × 105 CFU/mL within 10 s was further applied to real environmental sample detection with good accuracy and reliability. Visual quantitative determination can be achieved by analyzing the RGB values of the corresponding test solution color via a color recognition APP on a smartphone. Different test samples can be photographed at the same time, hence the efficient accomplishment of examining bulk samples within minutes. Potentially employed in various on-site sensing occasions, this strategy may develop into a powerful means for distinguishing hazardous pathogens to facilitate timely and proper actions of dealing with multifarious security issues.

Abstract
In this study, ginkgo leaves were used as a carbon source to synthesize carbon quantum dots (CQDs) with uniform particle size, high fluorescence (FL) intensity and strong stability, using a hydrothermal method. FL could be quenched by the FL resonance energy transfer effect between CQDs and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), an important FL quenching agent. The electrostatic attraction between thiosemicarbazone (TSC) and citrate on the surface of AuNPs and the formation of a stable Au-S bond between TSC and AuNPs led to the aggregation of AuNPs and thus weakened the quenching effect on CQDs and partly recovered the FL. A sensor in FL mode for the detection of TSC was constructed based on the above-mentioned FL "off" and "on" phenomena. The results showed a good linear correlation in the concentration range 0-1.75 μM, and the limit of detection was as low as 0.05 μM. In addition, the aggregation of AuNPs caused by TSC also led to a change in the absorbance curve and color of the solution; colorimetric and chrominance detection modes were also constructed using these two types of changes, with sensitive responses ranging 0-2.25 μM and 0-1.60 μM and the limits of detection of 0.03 μM and 0.08 μM, respectively. More importantly, these three detection modes obtained satisfactory recovery rates in the detection of the TSC content in river water, liquor and wheat samples, and the detection results were mutually verified (95.18% to 104.96%).

Abstract
Herein, the excitation wavelength-dependent responses of the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors were investigated, using acetaminophen (AP), rutin (RT) and perfluorooctanoate (PFOA) as the model templates, pyrrole as functional monomer, CuInS2@ZnS/TiO2 NTs as the basic photoelectrode. With wavelength λ > 240 nm, the photocurrent of MIPPFOA enhanced at higher concentrations of PFOA. With increasing AP concentration, the photocurrents of MIPAP could decline with λ < 271 nm, not change at λ = 270 nm, or increase with λ > 270 nm. As RT concentration increased, the photocurrents of MIPRT could decrease (λ < 431 nm), not change (λ = 431 nm) or increase (λ > 431 nm). The PEC responses depend on the comprehensive interaction of two contrary mechanisms from the template molecules within the MIP membrane. The photocurrent is enhanced by the role of the electron donor for photo-generated holes but attenuated due to the steric hindrance effect and the excitation light intensity loss via absorption or scattering. The apparent molar absorption coefficient of AP and RT within MIP membranes are 9.1-19.4 folds of those measured from dilute solutions. By using a routine UV lamp as the light source, the photocurrents of MIPRT at 254 nm and MIPAP at 365 nm were used to determine RT and AP, with the detection limits of 5.3 and 16 nM, respectively. The interference from the non-specific adsorption of interferents on the surfaces of MIPAP and MIPRT was reduced by one order of magnitude via a differential strategy.

Abstract
The overuse of tetracycline (TC) has led to the accumulation of antibiotic residues in drinking water and animal products, which can consequently lead to bacteria resistance and chronic disease in humans. Urgently addressing the need for a rapid, user-friendly, and point-of-care test for TC detection. In this work, we use cyclen and citric acid to synthesise carbon dots (CDs) with a unique ring-shaped structure on their surface and combine them with europium (Eu3+) to form an Eu-CDs fluorescent probe. In the presence of TC in aqueous systems, the Eu-CDs probe emits two distinctive fluorescent signals: the stable blue emission from cyclen-modified CDs and the red emission from Eu3+,showing a proportional increase with TC concentration. The developed Eu-CDs probe demonstrates accurate and selective detection capabilities for TC class antibiotics among various interfering factors. The Eu-CDs probe exhibits excellent linearity within the concentration range of 0.04-2.4 µM and achieves an impressive detection limit of 2.7 nM. Moreover, point-of-care Eu-CDs test strips are designed, allowing convenient on-site TC analysis through the detection of a colour change from blue to red under a portable UV light. The results highlight the effectiveness of the proposed dual-mode ratiometric fluorescent Eu-CDs probe and test strips, offering a practical point-of-care testing strategy for real-world TC detection applications.

Abstract
Paper-based ratiometric fluorescence sensors are normally prepared using two or more types of fluorescent materials on a paper chip for simple, low-cost and fast detection. However, the choice of multi-step and one-step modifications on the paper chip affects the analytical performance. Herein, a novel paper-based dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor was designed for the selective detection of tetracycline (TC). Carbon dots (CDs) modified with Eu3+ were combined with a sealed paper-based microfluidic chip by two methods: one-step grafting of CDs-Eu3+ on paper and step-by-step grafting of CDs and Eu3+ on paper. The analytical performance was studied and optimized respectively. The red fluorescence of Eu3+ at 450 nm is enhanced and the blue fluorescence of CDs at 617 nm is quenched by energy transfer in the presence of TC. Under optimal conditions, TC is selectively determined in the linear range from 0.1 μM to 100 μM with a detection limit of 0.03 μM by the step-by-step grafting method. In addition, the sealed paper chip could effectively prevent pollution and volatilization from the reagent. This technique has been used to analyze TC in seafood aquaculture water with satisfactory results.

Abstract
Cisplatin (CIS) and etoposide (ETP) combination therapy is highly effective for treating various cancers. However, the potential for pharmacokinetic interactions between these drugs necessitates selective sensing methods to quantitate both CIS and ETP levels in patient's plasma. This work develops a dual fluorescence probe strategy using glutathione-capped copper nanoclusters (GSH-CuNCs) and nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) for the simultaneous analysis of CIS and ETP. The fluorescence signal of GSH-CuNCs at 615 nm increased linearly with CIS concentration while the N-CD emission at 480 nm remained unaffected. Conversely, the N-CD fluorescence was selectively enhanced by ETP with no interference with the CuNC fluorescence. Extensive materials characterization including UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, XRD, and TEM confirmed the synthesis of the nanoprobes. The sensor showed high sensitivity with limits of detection of 6.95 ng mL-1 for CIS and 7.63 ng mL-1 for ETP along with excellent selectivity against potential interferences in rabbit plasma. Method feasibility was demonstrated with application to real rabbit plasma samples. The method was further applied to estimate the pharmacokinetic parameters of CIS before and after ETP coadministration. The dual nanoprobe sensing strategy enables rapid and selective quantitation of CIS and ETP levels to facilitate therapeutic drug monitoring and optimization of combination chemotherapy regimens.

Abstract
In this work, a facile one-step green synthesis was developed for the fabrication of blue fluorescent copper nanocluster (Brahmi-CuNCs) from the extract of Bacopa monnieri (common name is Brahmi) via a microwave method. The as-prepared Brahmi-CuNCs emitted blue fluorescence at 452 nm when excited at 352 nm and showed a quantum yield of 31.32%. Brahmi-derived blue fluorescent CuNCs acted as a probe for fluorescence sensing of dichlorvos. Upon the addition of dichlorvos, the blue emission for Brahmi-CuNCs was gradually turned off, favouring establishment of a calibration graph in the range 0.5-100 μM with a detection limit of 0.23 μM. The as-synthesized Brahmi-CuNCs exhibited marked sensitivity and selectivity towards dichlorvos, favourable for assaying dichlorvos in various samples (cabbage, apple juice, and rice).

Abstract
Fluorescent probes with on-site visual detection function have received extensive attention in the detection of chlortetracycline (CTC), which was widely used in aquaculture and animal husbandry. Copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) with excellent optical properties were prepared using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a template, and a multicolor fluorescence strategy based on BSA-stabilized Cu NCs (BSA-Cu NCs) for detecting CTC was proposed. BSA-Cu NCs had a red emission at 640 nm. After the addition of CTC, the red emission of BSA-Cu NCs gradually decreased for internal filtering effect, while the green emission of CTC was significantly enhanced under the sensitization of BSA. This simple sensing process can be achieved in real time by directly mixing the target sample with BSA-Cu NCs, and the detection limit (LOD) of the system for CTC was 12.01 nM. Based on this sensing strategy, a fluorescence film sensing detection platform was constructed to achieve ultra-fast detection of CTC within 30 s. This work provided a fluorescent film sensor with the advantages of portability, ultra-fast and low cost, which provided a feasible alternative for on-site ultra-fast screening of CTC.

Abstract
Copper plays a key role in the human body; meanwhile, excess Cu2+ ions can result in various diseases. Nanoclusters (NCs) are often used to measure Cu2+ ions, but there are two difficulties. On the one hand, a single probe of NCs is easily affected by environmental factors. On the other hand, it is difficult to mask the interference of Pb2+ ions and Cd2+ ions in the process of detecting Cu2+ ions. As a new type of quantum dots (QDs), tungsten disulfide quantum dots (WS2-QDs) have some advantages of simple synthesis and stable luminescence properties. Stable WS2-QDs with blue fluorescence are used as a reference probe, while gold silver nanoclusters (AuAgNCs) with red fluorescence are used as a response probe. A ratiometric fluorescent sensor was constructed by mixing the two styles of fluorescent probes, which is abbreviated as NCs/QDs. This nano-sensor can be used to detect the concentration of Cu2+ ions, in which the fluorescence of QDs does not change significantly, while the fluorescence of NCs can be quenched by Cu2+ ions. The concentration of Cu2+ ions can be determined as low as 0.12 μM with a linear range from 0.3 to 3 μM. The common interference caused by Pb2+ and Cd2+ ions can be eliminated by the phosphate buffer solution (PBS). This sensor was used to detect the concentration of Cu2+ in river water with satisfactory results.

Abstract
Novel dual-emission fluorescent nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs) were synthesized by a facile one-pot hydrothermal method using ascorbic acid and rhodamine B as precursors and melamine as nitrogen source. The obtained N-CDs exhibited dual-emitting peaks at 435 nm and 578 nm under the single excitation of 350 nm. The fluorescence at 578 nm was more effectively quenched by indigo carmine (IC) based on the internal filtration effect and aggregation-induced emission quenching. Meanwhile, the apparent color change of N-CDs from pink to blue-purple after adding various concentrations of IC could be clearly observed with the naked eye. Therefore, a ratiometric fluorescent and colorimetric dual-signal probe based on N-CDs was developed for IC detection with high selectivity and sensitivity. The addition of IC caused the ratiometric fluorescent value (F435/F578) to increase linearly within the range from 0 to100 µM with a detection limit (LOD) of 0.18 µM and the colorimetric signal presented a linear response in the range of 0-133 µM with a LOD of 57.4 nM. Furthermore, the IC in juice drink, candy, and water was successfully detected. Besides, the N-CDs were also designed as a ratiometric temperature probe, and the ratiometric fluorescence signal (F435/F578) was linearly and reversibly responsive to temperature in the range of 20-75 °C.

Abstract
The requirement to establish novel methods for visual detection is attracting attention in many application fields of analytical chemistry, such as, healthcare, environment, agriculture, and food. The research around subjects like "point-of-need", "hue recognition", "paper-based sensor", "fluorescent sensor", etc. has been always aimed at the opportunity to manufacture convenient and fast-response devices to be used by non-specialists. It is possible to achieve economic rationality and technical simplicity for optical sensing toward target analytes through introduction of fluorescent semiconductor/carbon quantum dot (QD) and paper-based substrates. In this Review, the mechanisms of anthropic visual recognition and fluorescent visual assays, characteristics of semiconductor/carbon QDs and ratiometric fluorescence test paper, and strategies of semiconductor/carbon QD-based hue recognition are described. We cover latest progress in the development and application of point-of-need sensors for visual detection, which is based on a semiconductor/carbon quantum dot-based hue recognition strategy generated by ratiometric fluorescence technology.

Abstract
In this study, peptides and composite nanomaterials based on copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) were used to detect chymotrypsin. The peptide was a chymotrypsin-specific cleavage peptide. The amino end of the peptide was covalently bound to CuNCs. The sulfhydryl group at the other end of the peptide can covalently combine with the composite nanomaterials. The fluorescence was quenched by fluorescence resonance energy transfer. The specific site of the peptide was cleaved by chymotrypsin. Therefore, the CuNCs were far away from the surface of the composite nanomaterials, and the intensity of fluorescence was restored. The limit of detection (LOD) using Porous Coordination Network (PCN)@graphene oxide (GO) @ gold nanoparticle (AuNP) sensor was lower than that of using PCN@AuNPs. The LOD based on PCN@GO@AuNPs was reduced from 9.57 pg mL-1 to 3.91 pg mL-1. This method was also used in a real sample. Therefore, it is a promising method in the biomedical field.

Abstract
In this work, we firstly report the preparation of heterogeneously assembled structures Au-Ag nanoclusters (NCs) as good drug carriers with high loading performance and biocompatible capability. As glutathione-protected Au and Ag clusters self-assembled into porous Au-Ag NCs, the size value is about 1.358 (±0.05) nm. The morphology characterization revealed that the diameter of Au-Ag NCs is approximately 120 nm, as well as the corresponding potential ability in loading performance of the metal cluster triggered-assembling process. Compared with individual components, the stability and loading performance of heterogeneous Au-Ag NCs were improved and exhibit that the relative biocompatibility was enhanced. The exact information about this is that cell viability was approximately to 98% when cells were incubated with 100 µg mL−1 particle solution for 3 days. The drug release of Adriamycin from Au-Ag NCs was carried out in PBS at pH = 7.4 and 5.8, respectively. By simulating in vivo and tumor microenvironment, the release efficiency could reach over 65% at pH = 5.8 but less than 30% at pH = 7.2. Using an ultrasound field as external environment can accelerate the assembling process while metal clusters triggered assembling Au-Ag NCs. The size and morphology of the assembled Au-Ag NCs can be controlled by using different power parameters (8 W, 13 W, 18 W) under ambient atmosphere. Overall, a novel approach is exhibited, which conveys assembling work for metal clusters triggers into heterogeneous structures with porous characteristic. Its existing properties such as water-solubility, stability, low toxicity and capsulation can be considered as dependable agents in various biomedical applications and drug carriers in immunotherapies.

Abstract
A tunable interaction between Fe-MOFs (MIL-53(Fe) and kojic acid (KA)-functional copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) has been studied. When introducing MIL-53(Fe), the Fe-O bonds can be formed between the KA on the surface of Cu NCs and MIL-53(Fe), which will induce the electron transfer from Cu NCs to MIL-53(Fe) and fluorescence quenching of Cu NCs. By introducing S2- it occupies the Fe-site of MIL-53(Fe) and impede the interaction between Cu NCs and MIL-53(Fe), rendering a "turn-on" fluorescence signal. Thus, the KA-Cu NC/MIL-53(Fe) pair is designed as fluorescence sensing for S2-, which displays a low detection limit of 18.6 nM and a wide linear detection range from 0.05 to 5 µM by fitting the fluorescence intensity at maximum wavelength of 500 nm with excitation at 400 nm. It was also applied to monitor S2- in water samples and food additives with satisfactory results, demonstrating the practicability and reliability of the sensing strategy based on the tuable MOF-Cu NC interactions.

Abstract
As an important biomarker in urine, the level of uric acid is of importance for human health. In this work, a Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework (Cu2+@Tb-MOFs) is designed and developed as a novel fluorescence probe for wide-range uric acid detection in human urine. The study shows that this fluorescence platform demonstrated excellent pH-independent stability, high water tolerance, and good thermal stability. Based on the strong interaction between metal ions and uric acid, the designed Cu2+@Tb-MOFs can be employed as efficient turn-on fluorescent probes for the detection of uric acid with wide detection range (0~104 µM) and high sensitivity (LOD = 0.65 µM). This probe also demonstrates an anti-interference property, as other species coexisted, and the possibility for recycling. The sensing mechanisms are further discussed at length. More importantly, we experimentally constructed a molecular logic gate operation based on this fluorescence probe for intelligent detection of uric acid. These results suggest the Cu(II) functionalized metal–organic framework can act as a prominent candidate for personalized monitoring of the concentration of uric acid in the human urine system.

Abstract
Hazardous chemical compounds such as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are widespread and part of the materials we use daily. Among these compounds, bisphenol A (BPA) is the most common endocrine-disrupting chemical and is prevalent due to the chemical raw materials used to manufacture thermoplastic polymers, rigid foams, and industrial coatings. General exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals constitutes a serious health hazard, especially to reproductive systems, and can lead to transgenerational diseases in adults due to exposure to these chemicals over several years. Thus, it is necessary to develop sensors for early detection of endocrine-disrupting chemicals. In recent years, the use of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) as sensors for EDCs has been explored due to their distinctive characteristics, such as wide surface area, outstanding chemical fastness, structural tuneability, gas storage, molecular separation, proton conductivity, and catalyst activity, among others which can be modified to sense hazardous environmental pollutants such as EDCs. In order to improve the versatility of MOFs as sensors, semiconductor quantum dots have been introduced into the MOF pores to form metal–organic frameworks/quantum dots composites. These composites possess a large optical absorption coefficient, low toxicity, direct bandgap, formidable sensing capacity, high resistance to change under light and tunable visual qualities by varying the size and compositions, which make them useful for applications as sensors for probing of dangerous and risky environmental contaminants such as EDCs and more. In this review, we explore various synthetic strategies of (MOFs), quantum dots (QDs), and metal–organic framework quantum dots composites (MOFs@QDs) as efficient compounds for the sensing of ecological pollutants, contaminants, and toxicants such as EDCs. We also summarize various compounds or materials used in the detection of BPA as well as the sensing ability and capability of MOFs, QDs, and MOFs@QDs composites that can be used as sensors for EDCs and BPA.

Abstract
The construction of ratiometric fluorescence sensing logic systems has gradually become a hot topic in fluorescence analysis, due to the multi-target analysis potential of logic operations and the high specificity and selectivity of ratiometric fluorescence sensing. In this paper, the basic principles of various logic functions implemented in ratiometric fluorescence detection are discussed in the context of sensing mechanisms, and the strategies for constructing logic systems in different ratiometric fluorescence sensing application areas are summarized. Although there are limitations such as cumbersome operations and complicated experiments, ratiometric fluorescence sensing logic circuits that combine the visualization of logic operations and the accuracy of ratiometric fluorescence are still worthy of in-depth study. This review may be useful for researchers interested in the construction of logic operations based on ratiometric fluorescence sensing applications.

Abstract
The development of functional materials with uniquely advanced properties lies at the core of nanoscience and nanotechnology. From the myriad possible combinations of organic and/or inorganic blocks, hybrids combining metal nanoclusters and carbon nanomaterials have emerged as highly attractive colloidal materials for imaging, sensing (optical and electrochemical) and catalysis, among other applications. While the metal nanoclusters provide extraordinary luminescent and electronic properties, the carbon nanomaterials (of zero, one or two dimensions) convey versatility, as well as unique interfacial, electronic, thermal, optical, and mechanical properties, which altogether can be put to use for the desired application. Herein, we present an overview of the field, for experts and non-experts, encompassing the basic properties of the building blocks, a systematic view of the chemical preparation routes and physicochemical properties of the hybrids, and a critical analysis of their ongoing and emerging applications. Challenges and opportunities, including directions towards green chemistry approaches, are also discussed.

Here, based on the design of rational primers and copper nanoclusters (CuNCs), we present a method for the accurate detection of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, which is capable of distinguishing the Delta variant with its single nucleotide polymorphism from the 'wild type' coronavirus (NC_045512.2), and realizing visualization signal out. Specifically, we show that dual priming oligonucleotide (DPO) primers and AT primers can be used to distinguish between wild types and mutations of this virus by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis and that visualization can be achieved via the red fluorescence of CuNCs in ultraviolet radiation. Among the results, it was found that the R-1-down (DPO)-6I and F-1-30 AT, with the single nucleotide deletion site designed at the 3' end of the downstream primer, showed the best specificity towards the Delta variant. Moreover, the use of AT primers increased the AT contents of the PCR products, thus meeting the template requirements generated by the CuNCs. It was also found that the AT primers could assist with improving detection specificity. Finally, we demonstrate that the visualization of the CuNCs-based detection assay exhibited a linear relationship in 0.5 pg μL-1-50 ng μL-1, with a limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 0.5 pg μL-1.

Abstract
A new ratiometric fluorescence sensor is prepared for selective detection of chlorotetracycline (CTC) through dual-mode fluorescence method. The sensor is composed of carbon dots (CDs) with blue emission and carboxyl-modified CuInS2/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with dark-red emission. Usually QDs are used as fluorescent probes or signal sources, but it is interesting in this strategy that CuInS2/ZnS QDs innovatively work as quenching agent to reduce the fluorescence of CDs, mainly due to the fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). After the addition of CTC, the interaction between CDs and CuInS2/ZnS QDs is restrained, resulting in the fluorescence recovery of CDs, whilstthe QDs' fluorescence remains unaffected. In this work, CTC is detected in the range of 0-50 μM by conventional fluorescence and synchronous fluorescence methods under an excitation wavelength of 360 nm or Δλ = 90 nm, and the detection limits of the two methods are 0.46 μM and 0.36 μM, respectively. The designed sensor displays good selectivity compared with other tetracycline drugs with similar structure to CTC, different ions and various natural - amino acids. And the sensor can also be applied to determine CTC in tap water and milk.

Construction of N-CDs and Calcein-Based Ratiometric Fluorescent Sensor for Rapid Detection of Arginine and Acetaminophen. NANOMATERIALS 2022; 12:nano12060976. Abstract
In our study, a unique ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the rapid detection of arginine (Arg) and acetaminophen (AP) was constructed by the integration of blue fluorescent N-CDs and yellowish-green fluorescent calcein. The N-CD/calcein ratiometric fluorescent sensor exhibited dual emission at 435 and 519 nm under the same excitation wavelength of 370 nm, and caused potential Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) from N-CDs to calcein. When detecting Arg, the blue fluorescence from the N-CDs of the N-CD/calcein sensor was quenched by the interaction of N-CDs and Arg. Then, the fluorescence of our sensor was recovered with the addition of AP, possibly due to the stronger association between AP and Arg, leading to the dissociation of Arg from N-CDs. Meanwhile, we observed an obvious fluorescence change from blue to green, then back to blue, when Arg and AP were added, exhibiting the “on–off–on” pattern. Next, we determined the detection limits of the N-CD/calcein sensor to Arg and AP, which were as low as 0.08 μM and 0.02 μM, respectively. Furthermore, we discovered that the fluorescence changes of the N-CD/calcein sensor were only responsible for Arg and AP. These results suggested its high sensitivity and specificity for Arg and AP detection. In addition, we have successfully achieved its application in bovine serum samples, indicating its practicality. Lastly, the logic gate was generated by the N-CD/calcein sensor and presented its good reversibility. Overall, we have demonstrated that our N-CD/calcein sensor is a powerful sensor to detect Arg and AP and that it has potential applications in biological analysis and imaging.

Abstract
A water-soluble, stable, simple and dual ligands (bovine serum albumin and L-histidine)-enhanced copper nanoclusters (BSA-CuNCs@L-His) was synthesized by one-step wet chemical method. Interestingly, the introduction of L-His ligand could improve evidently the quantum yields (QYs, 3.47%) and stability of BSA-CuNCs due to forming the stronger interaction of L-His and Cu and producing bigger diameter CuNCs by coordination-induced aggregation. Thus, a new ratiometric fluorescent probe (RF-probe) was successfully exploited for sensitively and selectively mensurating doxycycline (DOX) because DOX could simultaneously regulate the fluorescence (FL) intensities of BSA-CuNCs@L-His at 410 and 520 nm. The FL quenching of BSA-CuNCs@L-His at 410 nm by DOX was mainly originated from the static quenching process, while DOX could bind to Trp-212 in BSA from the skeleton of BSA-CuNCs@L-His by electrostatic interaction causing the appearance of new emission peak at 520 nm. The content of DOX was monitored by the RF-probe with a linear range of 0.05-14.0 μM and a LOD (limit of detection) and LOQ (limit of quantification) of 6.4 and 21.3 nM (at 3σ/slope and 10σ/slope). Moreover, compared to the standard HPLC method, the proposed RF-probe was extended to the detection of DOX in doxycycline hydrochloride (DOXH) tablets, DOXH injections and DOXH capsules with satisfactory results.

Abstract
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a commonly used marker in clinical practice, and this enzyme is a key indicator for diagnosing various diseases. In this study, we describe the development of a reliable and novel fluorescent assay for ALP detection based on chitosan carbon dots (C-CDs, peak emission, 412 nm) and calcein (peak emission, 512 nm). In the presence of Eu3+ (which binds calcein), the fluorescence intensity of calcein is quenched. Utilizing the ALP-triggered generation of phosphate ions (PO43-) from the substrate p-nitrophenyl phosphate (pNPP), the Eu3+ ions bind PO43- (which shows a higher affinity toward Eu3+ than calcein), and the fluorescence of calcein is recovered. As a consequence, C-CDs fluorescence is decreased by inner filter effect (IFE). Exploiting these changes in the fluorescence intensity ratio of C-CDs and calcein, we developed a high sensitivity, accurate, and easily synthesized ratiometric fluorescence probe. Our novel fluorescent bioassay demonstrates good linear relationship in the 0.09-0.8 mU mL-1 range, with a low detection limit of 0.013 mU mL-1. The excellent applicability of this novel assay in HepG2 cells and human serum samples demonstrates that our novel method has excellent biomedical research and disease diagnosis prospects.

Abstract
In this work, amine-carbon quantum dots (CQDs)/rhodamine B (RhB) ratiometric fluorescent (RF) sensor was employed for effective and selective determination of tamsulosin hydrochloride (TMS) based on a dual-emission fluorescence system. Although the function of amine-CQDs is to transfer the specific interaction between TMS and sensor into detectable fluorescence (FL) signals, RhB as a reference unit has been employed to omit internal and external effects. The FL signal was quenched by adding the TMS at 442 nm; nevertheless, it did not change at 569 nm. The material characterization and investigation of the sensing mechanism were done. The optimization of pH, the volumetric ratio of CQDs to RhB, and interaction time parameters were carried out by the one-variable-at-a-time (OVAT) method. The quantitative analysis of the concentration of TMS for this RF sensor in a linear range of 0.446-7.083 μg mL-1 (1.091-17.338 μM) was obtained (R2 = 0.9969, n = 3) under optimum conditions. The limit of detection and quantitation values were estimated to be 0.033 μg mL-1 (0.081 μM) and 0.109 μg mL-1 (0.267 μM), respectively. The repeatability of intra-day and inter-day were less than one percent. This inexpensive RF probe was well applied to determine TMS in biological fluids, and acceptable achievements were obtained.

Abstract
p-Nitrophenol and its derivatives can cause serious harm to the health of mankind and the earth's ecosystem. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a novel and rapid detection technology for p-nitrophenol and its derivative. Herein, excellent water-soluble, large-size and dual-emissive neuron cell-analogous carbon-based probes (NCNPs) have been prepared via a solvothermal approach, using o-phenylenediamine as the only precursor, which exhibit two distinctive fluorescence (FL) peaks at 420 and 555 nm under 345 nm excitation. The NCNPs show a neuron cell-like branched structure, are cross-connected, and are in the range of 10-20 nm in skeleton diameter. Interestingly, their blue-green dual-colour fluorescence is quenched by p-nitrophenol or its derivative due to the specific mechanism of the ππ stacking interactions or internal filtration effect. Accordingly, a simple, rapid, direct and free-label ratiometric FL detection of p-nitrophenol is proposed. An excellent linear relationship shows linear regions over the range of 0.1-50 μM between the ratio of the FL intensity (FL555 nm/FL420 nm) and the concentrations of p-nitrophenol. The detection limit is as low as 43 nM (3σ). Importantly, the NCNP-based probe also shows acceptable repeatability and reproducibility for the detection of p-nitrophenol and its derivatives, and the recovery results for p-nitrophenol in real wastewater samples are favourable.

Abstract
Atomically precise metal nanoclusters (MNCs) have gained tremendous research interest in recent years due to their extraordinary properties. The molecular-like properties that originate from the quantized electronic states provide novel opportunities for the construction of unique nanomaterials possessing rich molecular-like absorption, luminescence, and magnetic properties. The field of monolayer-protected metal nanoclusters, especially copper, with well-defined molecular structures and compositions, is relatively new, about two to three decades old. Nevertheless, the massive progress in the field illustrates the importance of such nanoobjects as promising materials for various applications. In this respect, nanocluster-based catalysts have become very popular, showing high efficiencies and activities for the catalytic conversion of chemical compounds. Biomedical applications of clusters are an active research field aimed at finding better fluorescent contrast agents, therapeutic pharmaceuticals for the treatment and prevention of diseases, the early diagnosis of cancers and other potent diseases, especially at early stages. A huge library of structures and the compositions of copper nanoclusters (CuNCs) with atomic precisions have already been discovered during last few decades; however, there are many concerns to be addressed and questions to be answered. Hopefully, in future, with the combined efforts of material scientists, inorganic chemists, and computational scientists, a thorough understanding of the unique molecular-like properties of metal nanoclusters will be achieved. This, on the other hand, will allow the interdisciplinary researchers to design novel catalysts, biosensors, or therapeutic agents using highly structured, atomically precise, and stable CuNCs. Thus, we hope this review will guide the reader through the field of CuNCs, while discussing the main achievements and improvements, along with challenges and drawbacks that one needs to face and overcome.
