Abstract
Korean yams are abundant in bioactive compounds with significant health-promoting properties. This study evaluated the anti-inflammatory potential of ethanol and water extracts from Dioscorea polystachya and Dioscorea bulbifera in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells. Among the extracts, the 95% ethanol extract exhibited the most potent inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) production, warranting further exploration of its mechanisms of action. Further analysis revealed that the ethanol extract modulated key inflammatory signaling pathways, including MAPK and NF-κB, contributing to its anti-inflammatory activity. Additionally, mucilage polysaccharides, a key bioactive component of Korean yams, were extracted and characterized for their structural and functional properties. These polysaccharides demonstrated immune-enhancing effects by reducing ROS and NO production while increasing phagocytic activity in the RAW 264.7 cells. Their prebiotic potential was also assessed through microbial growth assays, which showed an enhanced proliferation of beneficial bacteria such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. Furthermore, the adhesion assays using Caco-2 intestinal epithelial cells revealed that these polysaccharides promoted probiotic adhesion while inhibiting the adhesion of pathogenic bacteria. These findings highlight the bioactive potential of ethanol extracts and mucilage polysaccharides from Korean yams, emphasizing their promising applications as anti-inflammatory, immune-modulating, and prebiotic agents for functional food and nutraceutical development.

Abstract
Weissella cibaria W21, W25, and W42 strains have previously been characterized for their antagonism against a range of foodborne pathogens. However, prior to their use as protective agents, further analyses such as their safety and in situ activity are needed. The safety of W. cibaria W21, W25, and W42 strains was predicted in silico and confirmed experimentally. Analyses of their genomes using appropriate software did not reveal any acquired antimicrobial resistance genes, nor mobile genetic elements (MGEs). The survival of each strain was determined in vitro under conditions mimicking the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Thus, hemolysis analysis was performed using blood agar and the cytotoxicity assay was determined using a mixture of two cell lines (80% of Caco-2 and 20% of HT-29). We also performed the inflammation and anti-inflammation capabilities of these strains using the promonocytic human cell line U937. The Weissella strains were found to be haemolysis-negative and non-cytotoxic and did not induce any inflammation. Furthermore, these strains adhered tightly to intestinal Caco-2 cell-lines and exerted in situ anti-proliferative activity against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (strain MRSA S1) and Escherichia coli 181, a colistin-resistant strain. However, the W. cibaria strains showed low survival rate under simulated GIT conditions in vitro. The unusual LAB-strains W. cibaria strains W21, W25, and W42 are safe and endowed with potent antibacterial activities. These strains are therefore good candidates for industrial applications. The results of this study provide a characterization and insights into Weissella strains, which are considered unusual LAB, but which prompt a growing interest in their bio-functional properties and their potential industrial applications.

Exopolysaccharide from Lactobacillus casei NA-2 attenuates Escherichia coli O157:H7 surface adhesion via modulation of membrane surface properties and adhesion-related gene expression. Abstract
The natural compound, exopolysaccharide from Lactobacillus casei NA-2 (EPS-cn2), has been shown to inhibit biofilm formation by Escherichia coli O157:H7. Although bacterial adhesion to substrate surfaces is a primary, indispensable step in this process, the mechanisms by which EPS-cn2 can block E. coli O157:H7 adhesion to biotic or abiotic surfaces remain unclear. In this study, investigation of E. coli O157:H7 response to EPS-cn2 revealed that 1 mg/mL EPS-cn2 can decrease adherence to polystyrene and confluent Caco-2 cell surfaces to 49.0% (P<0.0001) and 57.0% (P<0.01) of that in untreated E. coli O157:H7, respectively. Moreover, EPS-cn2 significantly reduced outer membrane hydrophobicity by 49.0% and decreased the electronegativity of the membrane surface charge by as much as 1.57 mV (P<0.05) compared to untreated cells. High throughput RNA sequencing indicated that genes responsible for adhesion through extracellular matrix secretion, such as poly-N-acetyl-glucosamine (PNAG) biosynthesis, locus of enterocyte effacement (LEE) proteins and outer membrane protein (OmpT) were all down-regulated in response to EPS-cn2, while chemotaxis and motility-related flagellar assembly genes were differentially up-regulated, suggesting that the EPS-cn2 may serve as an extracellular signal to attenuate adhesion-related gene expression and alter bacterial surface properties in E. coli O157:H7. These findings support the further development of EPS-cn2 for pathogenic biofilm management in clinical and industrial settings, and suggests the further targeting of adhesion-related genes to limit the persistence of this highly pathogenic strain in sensitive environments.

Abstract
Banning antibiotic growth promoters has negatively impacted poultry production and sustainability, which led to exploring efficient alternatives such as probiotics, probiotics, and synbiotics. Effect of in ovo injection of Bacillus subtilis, raffinose, and their synbiotics on growth performance, cecal microbial population and volatile fatty acid concentration, ileal histomorphology, and ileal gene expression was investigated in broilers (Gallus gallus) raised for 21 days. On 300 h of incubation, a total of 1,500 embryonated eggs were equally allotted into 10 groups. The first was non-injected (NC) and the remaining in ovo injected with sterile distilled water (PC), B. subtilis 4 × 105 and 4 × 106 CFU (BS1 and BS2), Raffinose 2 and 3 mg (R1 and R2), B. subtilis 4 × 105 CFU + raffinose 2 mg (BS1R1), B. subtilis 4 × 105 CFU + raffinose 3 mg (BS1R2), B. subtilis 4 × 106 CFU + raffinose 2 mg (BS2R1), and B. subtilis 4 × 106 CFU + raffinose 3 mg (BS2R2). At hatch, 60 chicks from each group were randomly chosen, divided into groups of 6 replicates (10 birds/replicate), and fed with a corn–soybean-based diet. In ovo inoculation of B. subtilis and raffinose alone or combinations significantly improved body weight, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio of 21-day-old broilers compared to NC. Cecal concentrations of butyric, pentanoic, propionic, and isobutyric acids were significantly elevated in R1, R2, BS2R1, and BS2R2, whereas isovaleric and acetic acids were significantly increased in R1 and BS2R1 compared to NC. Cecal microbial population was significantly altered in treated groups. Ileal villus height was increased (p < 0.001) in BS1, R2, and BS2R2 compared to NC. The mRNA expression of mucin-2 was upregulated (p < 0.05) in synbiotic groups except for BS1R1. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression was increased (p < 0.05) in BS2, R1, BS1R1, and BS1R2 compared to NC. SGLT-1 expression was upregulated (p < 0.05) in all treated birds except those of R1 group compared to NC. The mRNA expressions of interleukin (IL)-2 and toll-like receptor (TLR)-4 were downregulated (p < 0.05) in BS2 and R1 for IL-2 and BS1R1 and BS2R2 for TLR-4. It was concluded that in ovo B. subtilis, raffinose, and synbiotics positively affected growth performance, cecal microbiota, gut health, immune responses, and thus the sustainability of production in 21-day-old broilers.

Abstract
Clostridioides difficile (C. difficile) infection is associated with high morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum E51 (L. plantarum E51) on C. difficile infection using the Caco-2 monolayer in vitro model. Caco-2 cells were infected with C. difficile in the presence/absence of L. plantarum E51 or Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG). Caco-2 intestinal barrier functions, such as monolayer integrity, IL-8 secretion, and tight junction protein expression, were quantified to investigate the extent to which L. plantarum E51 protected against C. difficile infection in vitro. Furthermore, inhibition of C. difficile adhesion to Caco-2 cells by L. plantarum E51 was explored using competition, exclusion, and displacement assays. The results indicated that L. plantarum E51 inhibited C. difficile growth, ameliorated C. difficile-caused decrease in transepithelial/ transendothelial electrical resistance, attenuated C. difficile-induced IL8 secretion, and upregulated claudin-1 protein expression that was inhibited by C. difficile. Moreover, L. plantarum E51 suppressed C. difficile adhesion to Caco-2 cells. In conclusion, these findings demonstrated that L. plantarum E51 substantially protected against C. difficile-induced damages on intestinal barrier functions in Caco-2 cells. The probiotic potential of L. plantarum E51 against C. difficile infection warrants further investigation.

Abstract
This study investigated two kinds of probiotic bacteria (Bacillus toyonensis, B1 and Bifidobacterium bifidum, B2) on laying Japanese quail’s performance, egg quality, fertility and hatchability, blood biochemical characteristics and microbiological parameters. A total of 270 mature quails (180 females and 90 males) were distributed into ten groups in a completely randomized design at eight weeks of age. The experimental groups were as follows: T1: basal diet only (control); T2-T5, basal diet plus 0.05, 0.075, 0.10 and 0.125% B1, respectively; T6: basal diet plus 0.10% B2; T7-T10: basal diet plus 0.05, 0.075, 0.10 and 0.125% B1 plus 0.05% B2, respectively. Results revealed that egg number (EN) and egg weight (EW) were gradually increased (P < 0.01) as the levels of both probiotic types increased. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) was significantly (P < 0.05) better within the total experimental period (8–20 weeks) due to B1 alone or/with B2 supplementation. Values of yolk percentage (Y%) were statistically (P < 0.01) higher only at 8–20 weeks of age and T10 recorded the highest value. By increasing the level of probiotics, fertility and hatchability percentages (F% and H%) were gradually increased (P < 0.01 and P < 0.05). Creatinine (CR) level was statistically reduced in birds fed T4 diet. Also, urea-N and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) levels were reduced in treated birds. The opposite was found regarding alkaline phosphatase (ALP). Conclusively, using B1 and B2 enhanced the productive performance, some egg quality traits, fertility and hatchability, digestive enzyme activities, and reduced the harmful bacteria in the gut of laying Japanese quail. Our findings could recommend to apply T4 (basal diet + 0.10 % B1), T6 (basal diet + 0.10% B2) and T9 (basal diet + 0.10% B1 + 0.05% B2) levels for the best results.

Probiotic Properties of Lactobacilli and Their Ability to Inhibit the Adhesion of Enteropathogenic Bacteria to Caco-2 and HT-29 Cells. Probiotics Antimicrob Proteins 2021; 13:102-112. Abstract
We evaluated the probiotic properties of lactic acid bacteria using resistance, safety, and functional assays. A preliminary subtractive screening of nineteen strains was performed based on their survival in simulated gastric and intestinal juice, and cell surface characteristics (hydrophobicity and auto-aggregation). Five strains were selected for further characterization, which included the assessment of their co-aggregation to pathogens, phenol tolerance, antimicrobial activity, and safety. Moreover, their adhesion to Caco-2 and HT-29 cells and the ability to inhibit pathogenic bacteria adhesion were evaluated. All strains had high (≥ 80.0%) survival rates in gastric and intestinal juices. Among them, Lactobacillus brevis CCMA 1284, L. plantarum CCMA 0743, and L. plantarum CCMA 0359 exhibited higher hydrophobicity (95.33, 96.06, and 80.02%, respectively), while L. paracasei CCMA 0504 and L. paracasei CCMA 0505 had the highest auto-aggregation values (45.36 and 52.66%, respectively). However, these last two strains were positive for the DNAse test, which is a safety concern. The CCMA 0359 and CCMA 1284 strains did not show antimicrobial activity, while the CCMA 0505 strain had a higher percentage of adhesion (4.75%) to Caco-2 cells. In the simulated competition and exclusion assays, the CCMA 0743 strain was able to reduce Salmonella adhesion to both cells (Caco-2 and HT-29), but only the CCMA 0743 and CCMA 0505 strains inhibited Escherichia coli adhesion to HT-29 cells in the competition assay. According to the results of these evaluated attributes, this strain showed to be an excellent candidate for probiotic use.

Abstract
This experiment investigated the role of graded dietary levels of two probiotic strains (Bacillus toyonensis; BT and Bifidobacterium bifidum; BB) on the growth rate, carcass traits, physiological and histological aspects of growing Japanese quail. One thousand and three hundred sixty one-day-old un-sexed Japanese quail chicks were distributed randomly into ten groups. The 1st group served as a control and fed the basal diet without supplement while the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th groups received the control diet supplemented with 0.05, 0.075, 0.10 and 0.125% BT, respectively. The 6th group fed the control diet plus 0.10% BB while the remaining groups (7th to 10th) received the basal diet incorporated with the previous levels of BT rich with 0.05% BB. Dietary supplementation of BT and/or BB increased body weight and gain; however, feed intake and feed conversion were not affected. Amylase activity was significantly elevated in 5th, 7th and 9th groups, while lipase activity was improved in all treatment groups except 3rd and 6th groups. Results obtained concluded that dietary supplementation of BT with or without BB is useful for performance, digestive enzyme activities, blood cholesterols, antioxidant status and ileal histomorphometry and microbiota of growing Japanese quail.

Abstract
Nine strains of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and one strain of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei that were recently isolated from prickly pears, fresh figs and blackberries, which are traditionally and largely consumed fruits in Kabylia (north of Algeria), were studied here for their antagonism and antioxidant properties as well as for production of exopolysaccharides. With respect to their inhibitory properties, these strains were tested against three food representative pathogens including Escherichia coli ATCC 8739, Staphylococcus aureus 2S6 and Listeria monocytogenes 162. The antagonism of these pathogens was attributable to lactic acid production, present in the cell free supernatant, at concentrations ranging from 9 to 16.74 g/L. The anti-adhesive properties observed on polystyrene or eukaryotic Caco-2 cells were exerted in a strain dependent-manner. Indeed, the scores obtained ranged from 27% to 75% for S. aureus 2S6, 54% to 95% for L. monocytogenes 162, and 50% to 97% for E. coli ATCC 8739. The co-aggregation of these Lactobacillus strains with the aforementioned target bacteria appeared to be exerted in a strain-dependent manner, with noticeably the upmost rate for Lb. paracasei FB1 on S. aureus 2S6. Interestingly, these novel Lactobacillus strains were able to produce a large amount (315.55 to 483.22 mg/L) of exopolysaccharides, and showed a significant scavenging activity on the 2,2-di-phényl-2-picrylhydrazyle (DPPH) synthetic free radical with rates of 51% to 56%. Of note, the highest antioxidant activity was observed for Lb. paracasei FB1 using the culture supernatants, intact cells or the intracellular extract. The statistical analysis of these data using the principal component analysis (ACP) enabled us to establish three distinct clusters with potential applications as bioprotective and/or probiotic agents, following further evaluation.

Abstract
The present investigation aimed to explore the impact of dietary graded levels of 2 types of probiotic bacteria (Bacillus toyonensis [BT] and Bifidobacterium bifidum [BB]) on growth, carcass traits, meat quality, and bacteriology of growing Japanese quail reared under the cage system. One thousand three hundred sixty Japanese quail day-old chicks were randomly divided into 10 groups (8 replicates each). Birds were fed a basal diet (control, T1) and the basal diet plus 0.05, 0.075, 0.10, and 0.125% BT (T2, T3, T4, and T5, respectively), 0.10% BB (T6), and the same previous doses of BT plus 0.05% BB (T7, T8, T9, and T10, respectively). Results showed a significant (P < 0.001) increase in final BW and weight gain because of probiotic supplementation (except T2 for weight gain). Both feed intake and feed conversion ratio did not differ during the overall experimental period (1–42 D of age) except feed intake that was reduced in T2 and increased in T5 and T9 groups. All carcass traits studied were significantly (P < 0.01) affected by probiotics, and the combination between BT and BB in group T8 increased all studied parameters as compared with the other treatment groups. The quail meat color of redness a∗ and L∗ values, thiobarbituric content, cooking loss, proteolysis, and total coliform were decreased (P < 0.001) by probiotic treatment. In general, supplementing BT, BB, or their combination to the basal diet delayed the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria in the diet and intestine. Using BT and BB as feed supplements enhanced growth performance and meat quality of quails as well as diminished pathogenic bacteria proliferation in their diet and intestine. As per our results, we can recommend the application of T5 and T8 to T10 levels for the best performance, carcass traits, and meat quality of growing quails.

Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate in vitro probiotic characteristics of Pediococcus pentosaceus strain L1 from pickled radish and investigate its impacts on inflammatory responses in porcine intestinal epithelial cells (IEC) to enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) F4+. The abilities of P. pentosaceus L1 to tolerate gastrointestinal conditions and to antagonize ETEC F4+ growth were determined. Adhesion of P. pentosaceus L1 and its effect on ETEC F4+ adhesion to porcine IPEC-J2 IEC were evaluated. Furthermore, the effects of this strain on proinflammatory gene expression and cytokines/chemokine production in porcine IPEC-J2 IEC induced by ETEC F4+ were determined. P. pentosaceus L1 showed good tolerance to the medium adjusted at pH 2.5 and consequently supplemented with 0.3% oxgall. Reduction of ETEC F4+ growth in co-culture with L1 was found. Effective adhesion of L1 to porcine. IPEC-J2 IEC was observed under these conditions. P. pentosaceus L1 decreased the adhesion of ETEC F4+ to IPEC-J2 IEC and the extent of inhibition of ETEC F4+ adhesion depended on the timing of L1 addition. Further analysis revealed down-regulation of expression of ETEC F4+-induced proinflammatory genes encoding interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in IPEC-J2 IEC. Expression of the genes involved in NF-κB pathway, including RELA and NFKB1, were also repressed, as was production of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-8. These results indicate that P. pentosaceus L1 may have potential as a probiotic for control of ETEC infection in pigs.

Abstract
Probiotics, such as Lactobacillus, have been proven to be effective in maintaining intestinal homeostasis. The modulatory effect of Lactobacillus on intestinal epithelial development in early life is still unclear. In this study, Lactobacillus isolates with good probiotic abilities were screened and orally administered to detect their regulatory effect on intestinal development in chickens. L. reuteri 22 was isolated from chickens and chosen for subsequent chicken experiments due to its strong acid and bile salt resistance and ability to adhere to epithelial cells. The 3-day-old chickens were orally administrated with 108 CFU L. reuteri 22 for consecutive 7 days. L. reuteri 22 increased Lgr5 mRNA expression (3.23 ± 0.40, P = 0.001) and activated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, with increasing expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) (49.27 ± 9.81, P = 0.021) to support the proliferation of chicken intestinal epithelial cells. Moreover, L. reuteri 22 also inhibited the Notch signaling pathway to induce intestinal stem cell differentiation into goblet cells with increased mucin 2 (Muc-2) expression (1.72 ± 0.34, P = 0.047). L. reuteri 22 significantly enhanced lysozyme mRNA expression (2.32 ± 0.55, P = 0.019) to improve intestinal innate mucosal immunity. This study demonstrated that L. reuteri administration could regulate chicken intestinal epithelium development to ensure the function of the intestinal mucosal barrier, which is beneficial for newborn animals.

Abstract
Probiotics become important bacteria in our daily life due to their benefit on human health. In this study, a subset of bacterial strains from children was isolated and evaluated for beneficial probiotic traits such as antimicrobial activity, bile and acid tolerance, and pathogenic cell adherence inhibition. The strain with the best antimicrobial activity was selected for further characterization on the basis of morphological, biochemical characteristics and gene sequence. This strain was Gram-positive, oxidase and catalase-negative, and it produced acids by fermenting sugar and starch as carbon sources. Additionally, it could only hydrolyze bile-esculin, but not red blood cells. The 16S rDNA gene sequence revealed that this strain was Enterococcus faecalis. Interestingly, this strain effectively inhibited a variety of pathogens by acid and bacteriocin production and was bile-tolerant, able to survive under acidic condition. In the safety assessments, E. faecalis MTC 1032 could adhere to host epithelial cells and evidently inhibited pathogenic cell adhesion as demonstrated by cell reduction over time of E. coli ATCC 25922 and S. typhimurium ATCC 13311 on Caco-2 cell line. In summary, it was clearly represented that E. faecalis MTC 1032 provided suitable properties and could be a candidate as a probiotic strain in food supplements.

Abstract
Bifidobacterium bifidum BGN4 is a probiotic strain that has been used as a major ingredient to produce nutraceutical products and as a dairy starter since 2000. The various bio-functional effects and potential for industrial application of B. bifidum BGN4 has been characterized and proven by in vitro (i.e., phytochemical bio-catalysis, cell adhesion and anti-carcinogenic effects on cell lines, and immunomodulatory effects on immune cells), in vivo (i.e., suppressed allergic responses in mouse model and anti-inflammatory bowel disease), and clinical studies (eczema in infants and adults with irritable bowel syndrome). Recently, the investigation of the genome sequencing was finished and this data potentially clarifies the biochemical characteristics of B. bifidum BGN4 that possibly illustrate its nutraceutical functionality. However, further systematic research should be continued to gain insight for academic and industrial applications so that the use of B. bifidum BGN4 could be expanded to result in greater benefit. This review deals with multiple studies on B. bifidum BGN4 to offer a greater understanding as a probiotic microorganism available in functional food ingredients. In particular, this work considers the potential for commercial application, physiological characterization and exploitation of B. bifidum BGN4 as a whole.

Abstract
Pathogens invade intestinal mucosal barrier through phagocytosis of antigen presenting cells (dendritic cell, microfold cells), or through the invasion into the intestinal epithelial directly. Some pathogens could damage the cell junction between epithelial cells and use the paracellular pathway as an entrance to invade. Moreover, some Lactobacillus could inhibit the adhesion of the pathogens and protect the integrity of the cell junction and mucosal barrier. This research focused on the potential therapeutic effect of Lactobacillus fructosus (L. fructosus) C2 to attenuate ETEC K88 or S. typhimurium SL1344 induced changes to mucosal barrier. The results demonstrated that treatment of polarized Caco-2 cells with L. fructosus C2 reduced the permeation of dextran, and expression of IL-8, p-ERK, and p-JNK when cells were infected with pathogenic bacteria. The findings indicated that L. fructosus C2 exerted a protective effect against the damage to the integrity of Caco-2 cells by ETEC or S. typhimurium infection.

Abstract
Cell junctions are the gatekeepers of the paracellular route and defend the mucosal barrier. Several enteropathogenic bacteria can invade intestinal epithelial cells by targeting and damaging cell junctions. It is not well understood how Salmonella typhimurium is able to overcome the intestinal barrier and gain access to the circulation, nor is it understood how Lactobacillus prevents the invasion of S. typhimurium. Therefore, we sought to determine whether infection with S. typhimurium SL1344 could regulate the molecular composition of cell junctions and whether Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. lactis R4 could affect this modification. Our data demonstrated that infection of Caco-2 cells with S. typhimurium over 2 h resulted in a redistribution of claudin-1, ZO-1, occluding, and E-cadherin. Western blot analysis of epithelial cell lysates demonstrated that S. typhimurium could decrease the expression of cell junction proteins. However, L. delbrueckii ssp. lactis R4 ameliorated this destruction and induced increased expression of ZO-1, occludin, and E-cadherin relative to the levels in the control group. The results of these experiments implied that S. typhimurium may facilitate its uptake and distribution within the host by regulating the molecular composition of cell junctions. Furthermore, Lactobacillus may prevent the adhesion and invasion of pathogenic bacteria by maintaining cell junctions and the mucosal barrier.

Abstract
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli and Salmonella Typhimurium could adhere to epithelial tissue and destroy cell junctions, leading to intestinal inflammation and diarrhea. Lactobacillus could prevent the adhesion of pathogens to host cells and protect the mucosal barrier. The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effects of Lactobacillus amylophilus D14 on Caco-2 cells against the invasion of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli K88 and Salmonella Typhimurium SL1344. We found that with a reduction in dextran permeability and an increase in transepithelial electrical resistance, L. amylophilus D14 could ameliorate the damage to cell integrity caused by pathogens. Furthermore, L. amylophilus D14 reduced the expression of phosphorylated extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase and phospho-c-jun N-terminal kinase, and it decreased the secretion of IL-8. The abilities of the Lactobacillus to protect the cell junctions were then evaluated on Caco-2 cells. Increased expression and amelioration distribution of tight junction proteins (zonula occludens-1, claudin-1, and E-cadherin) were observed when the cells were cocultured with pathogens and Lactobacillus simultaneously. Lactobacillus amylophilus D14 may influence the mitogen-activated protein kinase pathway to regulate the correct assembly of the tight junction and adherens junction, protecting the cell junctions and mucosal barrier damaged by enterotoxigenic E. coli K88 or Salmonella Typhimurium SL1344 infection.
