Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) is a rare and aggressive malignancy with a need for more precise prognostication tools due to the limitations of existing staging systems. This study aims to develop a nomogram to predict overall survival (OS) rates in PTL patients, addressing the gap in personalized treatment protocols. METHODS We analyzed 1469 PTL cases. Cox regression analyses were used to identify key prognostic factors and construct a survival prognostic nomogram. The nomogram's performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and decision curve analysis. Additionally, a web-based dynamic nomogram was developed to estimate mortality risk for PTL patients. RESULTS The nomogram exhibited high clinical utility and precision as determined by decision curve analysis and ROC curves. Furthermore, a novel risk stratification system was introduced. Kaplan-Meier survival curves illustrated significant differences among various risk groups, reinforcing the nomogram's substantial clinical value in predicting OS for PTL patients (P < 0.0001). SHAP value analysis clarified each variable's specific impact on the outcome. CONCLUSIONS The nomogram provides a valuable instrument for clinicians to individualize OS predictions for PTL patients, addressing the unmet need for personalized prognostication in this rare malignancy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION End-stage renal disease is different from other chronic diseases that the treatment method is as difficult. Our aim in this study was to compare marital adjustment, sexual functions and family functioning between hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patient. METHOD A total of 21 HD and 27 PD patients were included. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Short Form-36 (SF-36), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX), Golombok-Rust Inventory for Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS), Marital Adjustment Test (MAT) and Family Assessment Device (FAD) were applied. RESULTS BDI scores were significantly higher in HD patients (p < 0.001). According to FAD problem solving (p < 0.001), communication (p = 0.00) and general functioning scores (p = 0.04) were higher in PD. The rate of poor sleep quality was 44.4% in the PD group, and 66.7% in HD group (p = 0.12). General health (p = 0.04), vitality (p < 0.001), mental health (p = 0.00) and social functioning (p = 0.00) scores were lower in HD patients. CONCLUSION HD patients are at high risk for psychiatric disorders due to the treatment modality. These patients should be monitored carefully and consultation-liaison services should be increased.

Abstract
Background Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignant tumor in the endocrine system, is also one of the head and neck tumor. Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma (FTC) plays an important role in the pathological classification of thyroid cancer. This study aimed to develop an innovative predictive tool, a nomogram, for predicting cancer specific survival (CSS) in middle-aged FTC patients. Methods We collected patient data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The data from patients between 2004 and 2015 were used as the training set, and the data from patients between 2016 and 2018 were used as the validation set. To identify independent risk factors affecting patient survival, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed. Based on this, we developed a nomogram model aimed at predicting CSS in middle-aged patients with FTC. The consistency index (C-index), the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC), and the calibration curve were used to evaluate the accuracy and confidence of the model. Results A total of 2470 patients were enrolled in this study, in which patients from 2004 to 2015 were randomly assigned to the training cohort (N = 1437) and validation cohort (N = 598), and patients from 2016 to 2018 were assigned to the external validation cohort (N = 435) in terms of time. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that marriage, histological grade and TNM stage were independent risk factors for survival. The C-index for the training cohort was 0.866 (95 % CI: 0.805-0.927), for the validation cohort it was 0.944 (95 % CI: 0.903-0.985), and for the external validation cohort, it reached 0.999 (95 % CI: 0.997-1.001). Calibration curves and AUC suggest that the model has good accuracy. Conclusions We developed an innovative nomogram to predict CSS in middle-aged patients with FTC. Our model after a rigorous internal validation and external validation process, based on the time proved that the high level of accuracy and reliability. This tool helps healthcare professionals and patients make informed clinical decisions.

Abstract
This study aimed to develop nomograms to accurately predict the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of non-metastatic bladder cancer (BC) patients. Clinicopathological information of 260,412 non-metastatic BC patients was downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database from 2000 to 2020. LASSO method and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis were utilized to discover the independent risk factors, which were used to develop nomograms. The accuracy and discrimination of models were tested by the consistency index (C-index), the area under the subject operating characteristic curve (AUC) and the calibration curve. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to test the clinical value of nomograms compared with the TNM staging system. Nomograms predicting OS and CSS were constructed after identifying independent prognostic factors. The C-index of the training, internal validation and external validation cohort for OS was 0.722 (95%CI: 0.720-0.724), 0.723 (95%CI: 0.721-0.725) and 0.744 (95%CI: 0.677-0.811). The C-index of the training, internal validation and external validation cohort for CSS was 0.794 (95%CI: 0.792-0.796), 0.793 (95%CI: 0.789-0.797) and 0.879 (95%CI: 0.814-0.944). The AUC and the calibration curves showed good accuracy and discriminability. The DCA showed favorable clinical potential value of nomograms. Kaplan-Meier curve and log-rank test uncovered statistically significance survival difference between high- and low-risk groups. We developed nomograms to predict OS and CSS for non-metastatic BC patients. The models have been internally and externally validated with accuracy and discrimination and can assist clinicians to make better clinical decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The survival trends and prognostic factors of patients with extraosseous plasmacytoma (EOP) or extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) have not been reported in recent years. The objective of this study was to develop a novel nomogram and risk stratification system for predicting the overall survival (OS) of elderly patients with EOP based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. METHODS The demographic characteristics of 900 patients aged 60 years and above, diagnosed with EOP between 2000 and 2019, were extracted from the SEER database. The patient population was randomly divided into a training cohort and an internal validation cohort in a ratio of 7:3. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were conducted to identify independent predictors of prognosis in elderly EOP patients, followed by developing a nomogram for prognostic assessment. The performance of the model was evaluated through receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves, C-index, calibration curves for calibration accuracy assessment, and decision curve analysis (DCA) to assess its clinical utility. All elderly EOP patients were stratified into three risk subgroups by cutoff value utilizing X-tile software based on their total OS scores for comparative analysis purposes. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival curve analysis was employed to validate any observed differences in OS among these three risk groups. RESULTS Six factors including age, year of diagnosis, marital status, primary site, surgery, and prior tumor history were identified to be independently predictive of the OS of elderly patients with EOP, and these predictors were included in the construction of the nomogram. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year area under the curves (AUCs) for OS were 0.717, 0.754, and 0.734 in the training cohort and 0.740, 0.730, and 0.765 in the validation cohort, respectively. The C-index values in the two cohorts were 0.695 and 0.690. The calibration curves and DCA exhibit commendable consistency and validity, respectively, thereby demonstrating their robust performance. The training set was stratified into low-, medium-, and high-risk subgroups based on the optimal cutoff points (167.8 and 264.8) identified. The K-M curve and cumulative risk curve exhibited statistically significant disparities in survival rates among the groups. CONCLUSIONS We developed a nomogram and risk classification system, which can serve as an intuitive and effective tool for clinicians to enhance the prediction of OS in elderly EOP patients, thereby facilitating the formulation of more rational and personalized treatment strategies.

Abstract
Purpose To better understand whether the marital status impacts 90-day postoperative outcomes following kidney cancer surgery. Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study of adult patients undergoing elective partial or radical nephrectomy to manage kidney masses from 2003 to 2017 using the Premier Hospital Database, a national hospital discharge dataset. Multinomial logistic regression models controlling for a wide range of clinicodemographic, surgical, and hospital characteristics were used to assess an association between marital status and postoperative complications. The primary outcome was 90-day complications, including minor complications (Clavien grades 1-2), non-fatal major complications (Clavien grades 3-4), and mortality (Clavien grade 5). Secondary outcomes included patient disposition and readmission rates. Results The study cohort comprised 106,752 patients, of which 61,188 (57.32%) were married. The overall incidence of minor complications, major complications, and death was 24.04%, 6.00%, and 0.71%, respectively. Marriage was associated with a significantly lower incidence of minor (RR 0.97; 95% CI: 0.94-0.99) complications following open or radical nephrectomy and major complications (RR 0.89; 95% CI: 0.84-0.95) for all surgical types and approaches. There was no association between marital status and mortality (RR 0.94; 95% CI: 0.81-1.10). Conclusion Marriage is associated with a significant reduction in major complications following kidney cancer surgery, likely because it is associated with greater social support, which is beneficial in the postoperative phase of care. Marital status and social support may play a role in the preoperative decision-making process and counseling for patients considering kidney cancer surgery.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kidney cancer (KC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in adults which particularly affects the survival of elderly patients. We aimed to construct a nomogram to predict overall survival (OS) in elderly KC patients after surgery. METHODS Information on all primary KC patients aged more than 65 years and treated with surgery between 2010 and 2015 was downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis was used to identify the independent prognostic factors. Consistency index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), the area under curve (AUC), and calibration curve were used to assess the accuracy and validity of the nomogram. Comparison of the clinical benefits of nomogram and the TNM staging system is done by decision curve analysis (DCA) and time-dependent ROC. RESULTS A total of 15,989 elderly KC patients undergoing surgery were included. All patients were randomly divided into training set (N = 11,193, 70%) and validation set (N = 4796, 30%). The nomogram produced C-indexes of 0.771 (95% CI 0.751-0.791) and 0.792 (95% CI 0.763-0.821) in the training and validation sets, respectively, indicating that the nomogram has excellent predictive accuracy. The ROC, AUC, and calibration curves also showed the same excellent results. In addition, DCA and time-dependent ROC showed that the nomogram outperformed the TNM staging system with better net clinical benefits and predictive efficacy. CONCLUSIONS Independent influencing factors for postoperative OS in elderly KC patients were sex, age, histological type, tumor size, grade, surgery, marriage, radiotherapy, and T-, N-, and M-stage. The web-based nomogram and risk stratification system could assist surgeons and patients in clinical decision-making.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Our study aimed to explore the prognostic factors of bladder cancer with bone metastasis (BCBM) and develop prediction models to predict the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) of BCBM patients. METHODS A total of 1438 patients with BCBM were obtained from the SEER database. Patients from 2010 to 2016 were randomly divided into training and validation datasets (7:3), while patients from 2017 were divided for external testing. Nomograms were established using prognostic factors identified through Cox regression analyses and validated internally and externally. The concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, and time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the discrimination and calibration of nomogram models, while decision curve analyses (DCA) and Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves were used to estimate the clinical applicability. RESULTS Marital status, tumor metastasis (brain, liver, and lung), primary site surgery, and chemotherapy were indicated as independent prognostic factors for OS and CSS. Calibration plots and the overall C-index showed a novel agreement between the observed and predicted outcomes. Nomograms revealed significant advantages in OS and CSS predictions. AUCs for internal and external validation were listed as follows: for OS, 3-month AUCs were 0.853 and 0.849; 6-month AUCs were 0.873 and 0.832; 12-month AUCs were 0.825 and 0.805; for CSS, 3-month AUCs were 0.849 and 0.847; 6-month AUCs were 0.870 and 0.824; 12-month AUCs were 0.815 and 0.797, respectively. DCA curves demonstrated good clinical benefit, and KM curves showed distinct stratification performance. CONCLUSION The nomograms as web-based tools were proved to be accurate, efficient, and clinically beneficial, which might help in patient management and clinical decision-making for BCBM patients.

Abstract
Background Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignant tumor in the elderly, with an increasing trend in recent years. We aimed to construct a nomogram of cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) in elderly patients with nonmetastatic renal cell carcinoma (nmRCC). Methods Clinicopathological information was downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program in elderly patients with nmRCC from 2010 to 2015. All patients were randomly assigned to a training cohort (70%) or a validation cohort (30%). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify independent risk factors for patient outcomes in the training cohort. A nomogram was constructed based on these independent risk factors to predict the 1-, 3-, and 5-year CSS and OS in elderly patients with nmRCC. We used a range of methods to validate the accuracy and reliability of the model, including the calibration curve, consistency index (C-index), and the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC). Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to test the clinical utility of the model. Results A total of 12,116 patients were enrolled in the study. Patients were randomly assigned to the training cohort (N = 8,514) and validation cohort (N = 3,602). In the training cohort, univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that age, marriage, tumor histological type, histological tumor grade, TN stage, tumor size, and surgery are independent risk factors for prognosis. A nomogram was constructed based on independent risk factors to predict CSS and OS at 1-, 3-, and 5- years in elderly patients with nmRCC. The C-index of the training and validation cohorts in CSS were 0.826 and 0.831; in OS, they were 0.733 and 0.734, respectively. The AUC results of the training and validation cohort were similar to the C-index. The calibration curve indicated that the observed value is highly consistent with the predicted value, meaning the model has good accuracy. DCA results suggest that the clinical significance of the nomogram is better than that of traditional TNM staging. Conclusions We built a nomogram prediction model to predict the 1-, 3- and 5-year CSS and OS of elderly nmRCC patients. This model has good accuracy and discrimination and can help doctors and patients make clinical decisions and active monitoring.

Abstract
Aim: To develop a prognostic model to predict the overall survival of primary bladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (BNEC) patients. Methods: Using univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, a nomogram was constructed. Calibration curves, receiver operating characteristic curves and C-index were utilized to evaluate the performance. Results: The study enrolled 906 BNEC patients. The following variables were incorporated in the nomogram: age, marital status, Tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage, chemotherapy and surgery. The nomogram had a C-index of 0.702 in the training cohort and 0.724 in the validation cohort. Conclusion: Compared with the TNM staging system, the proposed nomogram exhibits superior prognostic discrimination and survival prediction.

Abstract
PURPOSE Black women have higher breast cancer mortality rates than other groups, with Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) being more common among AAs with a worse prognosis. Our study seeks to explore differences among Non-Hispanic Black (NHB) vs. White (NHW) women, with Stage IV TNBC, focusing on survival and treatment patterns. METHODS SEER database was queried for TNBC patients diagnosed with metastatic disease from 2012 to 2016. Neighborhood socioeconomic status (nSES) was defined using the Yost index based on income, education, housing, and employment. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate receipt of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Overall survival was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curve and Cox proportional hazards model analysis. RESULTS 25,761 TNBC cases were identified with 1420 being metastatic (5.5%). Bone was the most common site for metastasis, with patients' age being 63.7 years for NHW vs. 59.5 years for NHB. NHB women had the highest percentage of low nSES (62.3% vs 29.3%; p value = 0.001). On univariate analysis, fewer NHBs received radiation compared to NHWs (27.1 vs. 32.6%; p value = 0.040). On multivariate analysis, all women were less likely to undergo treatment if unmarried (p value < 0.01). NHB women had lower median survival compared to NHW women (13 vs. 15 months; p value < 0.01). Receipt of surgery and chemotherapy reduced the risk of mortality (p value < 0.01). CONCLUSION NHB women had lower median survival with metastatic TNBC. Race was associated with different treatment utilization. With a mortality differential between NHW and NHB women with metastatic TNBC, more investigation is needed to inform strategies to reduce this disparity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sebaceous adenocarcinoma (SAC) mostly occurs in the elderly, and SAC in young and middle-aged population is inadequately investigated. OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical features and prognosis of young and middle-aged adults with SAC. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with skin SAC between ages 18 and 59 years from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database (1975-2016) were eligible for this study. RESULTS Seven hundred thirty-nine cases were identified. The proportion of extraocular SAC in the nonelderly increased from 1975-2005 to 2006-2016 ( p = .001), male predominance was observed in overall patients whereas female predominance in Asian population, and young patients had more head and neck SAC than middle-aged patients ( p = .014). The prognosis of young patients was better than middle-aged patients ( p = .004). Other independent prognostic factors included sex, marital status, tumor size, surgery, chemotherapy, and multiple primary cancer history. CONCLUSION An increasing proportion of extraocular SAC was observed in young and middle-aged patients, and the young developed more head and neck SAC than the middle-aged. Female predominance was found in Asian population, and female patients had better prognosis. Younger age and married status indicated better prognosis, and around 20% of young and middle-aged patients might have poorer survival because of Muir-Torre syndrome.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to investigate the prognostic factors of penile cancer and establish a comprehensive predictive model for clinical application. Methods A total of 581 patients from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program (2000-2018) were used to develop the prognostic model. The multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression was performed to identify independent prognostic factors to develop the nomogram. The performance of this model was validated internally by a cohort with 143 patients from the SEER database and validated externally by a cohort with 70 patients from the West China Hospital, Sichuan University (2010-2020). Results Age, marital status, size of the primary lesion, primary tumor (T), regional lymph nodes status, distant metastasis (M), and the surgery of regional lymph node (LND) were the independent prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and were incorporated in the prognostic model. The prognostic nomogram showed a good risk stratification ability for OS in the development cohort, internal validation cohort, and external validation cohort. Conclusion This study incorporates the clinical, pathological, and therapeutic features comprehensively to develop a novel and clinically effective prognostic model for patients with penile cancer.

Abstract
Background Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is expected in the elderly and poor prognosis. We aim to explore prognostic factors of ccRCC in the elderly and construct a nomogram to predict cancer-specific survival (CSS) in elderly patients with ccRCC. Methods Clinicopathological information for all elderly patients with ccRCC from 2004 to 2018 was downloaded from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program. All patients were randomly assigned to a training cohort (70%) or a validation cohort (30%). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to identify the independent risk factors for CSS. A new nomogram was constructed to predict CSS at 1-, 3-, and 5 years in elderly patients with ccRCC based on independent risk factors. Subsequently, we used the consistency index (C-index), calibration curves, and the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) and decision curve analysis (DCA) to test the prediction accuracy of the model. Results A total of 33,509 elderly patients with ccRCC were enrolled. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses results showed that age, sex, race, marriage, tumor size, histological grade, tumor, nodes, and metastases (TNM) stage, and surgery were independent risk factors for CSS in elderly patients with ccRCC. We constructed a nomogram to predict CSS in elderly patients with ccRCC. The C-index of the training cohort and validation cohort was 0.81 (95% CI: 0.802-0.818) and 0.818 (95% CI: 0.806-0.830), respectively. The AUC of the training cohort and validation cohort also suggested that the prediction model had good accuracy. The calibration curve showed that the observed value of the prediction model was highly consistent with the predicted value. DCA showed good clinical application value of the nomogram. Conclusion In this study, we explored prognostic factors in elderly patients with ccRCC. We found that age, sex, marriage, TNM stage, surgery, and tumor size were independent risk factors for CSS. We constructed a new nomogram to predict CSS in elderly patients with ccRCC with good accuracy and reliability, providing clinical guidance for patients and physicians.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To study how marital status influences overall survival (OS) in patients with stage IA non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). And whether the result is valid in different time periods. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 55,207 cases of stage IA NSCLC from 1995 to 2015 in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. Marital status was classified as follows: married or with unmarried/domestic partner (MR/W.P), divorced or separated (DV/SP), widowed (WD), and single (never married). Patients diagnosed in 1995-2005 and 2006-2015 were analyzed separately as groups 1 and 2, respectively, to validate the results. Within each group, age-stratified demographic, clinicopathologic features, and OS were compared among different marital statuses. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS A total of 55,207 cases were included (group 1 n=20,223, group 2 n=34,984). From 1995-2005 to 2006-2015, median OS was prolonged significantly in all patients besides the DV/SP subgroup. In general, being MR/W.P was associated with the lowest relative risk of death in the study population (Group 1, HR= 0.854, 95%CI: 0.816-0.893; Group 2, HR = 0.799, 95%CI: 0.758-0.842). Meanwhile, OS of DV/SP and widowed patients was similar. In group 2, being single was associated with lower risk of death beyond 60-year-old.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between marital status and CKD is rarely studied. We aimed to explore the effect of marital status on the depression and mortality of patients with CKD. METHODS The data sources came from the NHANES database during 2005-2014 and 3,865 participants were included in this study. We used logistic regression models to examine the relationship between marital status and depression of CKD patients. The Cox proportional hazard models were used to evaluate the association between marital status and mortality of CKD patients. RESULTS In terms of depression in CKD patients, unmarried patients had a worse situation than married patients. Meanwhile, after adjusting the covariables, unmarried patients had increased risk of depression (OR = 1.26, 95% CI: 1.01-1.57) compared with married CKD patients, especially in males (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.02-2.06) and patients with more than college education level (OR = 12.4, 95% CI: 3.75-41.02). There was a significant relationship between marital status and mortality of general CKD patients (HR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.17-1.58). Moreover, marriage showed a protective effect against death among male patients, patients with school graduate or less and more than college educational level, patients with high income, and patients in different estimated glomerular filtration rate groups. CONCLUSIONS The use of large numbers of participants has revealed the effect of marital status on CKD patients. Unmarried ones had a higher risk of depression than married ones among CKD patients. Meanwhile, the risk of death was higher in unmarried ones than married ones among CKD patients in this study.

Abstract
Background This study sought to assess the prognostic factors for leiomyosarcoma (LMS) patients with lung metastasis and construct web-based nomograms to predict overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Method Patients diagnosed with LMS combined with lung metastasis between 2010 and 2016 were identified in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The patients were randomly divided into a training set and a testing set. The X-tile analysis provides the best age and tumor size cut-off point, and changes continuous variables into categorical variables. The independent prognostic factors were determined by Cox regression analysis, and 2 nomograms were established. Receiver operating characteristic curves and calibration curves were used to evaluate the nomograms. Based on the nomograms, 2 web-based nomograms were established. Results Two hundred and twenty-eight cases were included in the OS nomogram construction, and were randomly divided into a training set (n=160) and a validation set (n=68). Age, T stage, bone metastasis, surgery, chemotherapy, marital status, tumor size, and tumor site were found to be correlated with OS. One hundred and eighty-three cases were enrolled in the CSS nomogram construction, and randomly divided into a training set (n=129) and a validation set (n=54). Age, bone metastasis, surgery, chemotherapy, tumor size, and tumor site were found to be correlated with CSS. Two nomograms were established to predict OS and CSS. In the training set, the areas under the curve of the nomogram for predicting 1-, 2-, and 3-year OS were 0.783, 0.830, and 0.832, respectively, and those for predicting 1-, 2-, and 3-year CSS were 0.889, 0.777, and 0.884, respectively. Two web-based nomograms were established to predict OS (https://wenn23.shinyapps.io/lmslmosapp/), and CSS (https://wenn23.shinyapps.io/lmslmcssapp/). Conclusion The developed web-based nomogram is a useful tool for accurately analyzing the prognosis of LMS patients with lung metastasis, and could help clinical doctors to make personalized clinical decisions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) is a rare thyroid malignancy, there are few large sample studies on PTL and no standardized treatment regimen has been established due to the rarity. The aims of this study were to explore the incidence and prognostic factors of PTL and construct visual prognostic prediction models for post-chemotherapy and postoperative patients. METHODS The incidence of PTL in 1975-2017 was extracted from the US Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, then assessed using joinpoint regression software. A total of 1616 eligible PTL patients diagnosed in 1998-2016 were brought into prognostic analysis. Multivariate Cox regression analyses were carried out to reveal independent prognostic elements for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). RESULTS PTL incidence showed a relatively steady increase in 1975-1994, which annual percent change (APC) was 4.0%, and steady decreasing in 1994-2017(APC - 2.4%). Age, marital status, lymphoma Ann Arbor stage, histological subtypes, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation were significantly correlated to OS and CSS. Nomograms were constructed to predict OS and CSS in post-chemotherapy and postoperative PTL patients separately, and were verified to have good reliability. CONCLUSIONS The incidence of PTL increased and subsequently decreased. We revealed the prognostic implications and constructed reliable nomograms for post-chemotherapy and postoperative PTL patients.

Abstract
Background: Thyroid adenomas/adenocarcinomas are the most common type of thyroid cancer. The impact of socioeconomic factors on the prognosis of thyroid cancer is unclear. Methods: Clinical information and socioeconomic factors were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results Database (SEER) 18 Registries Custom Database. The association between thyroid adenomas/adenocarcinomas and socioeconomic factors including gender, race/ethnicity, insurance status, marital status, living area, and Yost index (including education, income, working, etc.) were fully evaluated. Results: A total of 136,313 patients between 2010 and 2016 were finally included in the present study. Among them, 126,160 patients were diagnosed with the single malignancy. Median follow-up time was 64 months. In general, non-Hispanic Asian or Pacific Islander and Hispanic patients had significantly better survival than non-Hispanic White patients (All P <0.05). Patients insured by Medicaid had significantly poorer cancer-specific survival (CSS, hazard ratio, HR=2.15, P <0.001) and overall survival (OS, HR=2.42, P <0.001) than those insured by commercial insurance or Medicare. In addition, divorced or widowed status, rural living location and low Yost index were significantly associated with poor CSS and OS of thyroid adenomas/adenocarcinomas (All P <0.05). Subgroup analyses showed similar results in patients who received surgical procedure, as well as in patients who received both surgical and radiation therapy. Multivariate analyses suggested that insurance status, marital status and Yost index remained significantly associated with CSS and OS (all P <0.05). Conclusions: Socioeconomic factors, including insurance status, marital status, living area, and Yost index, were significant predictors for the survival of thyroid adenomas/adenocarcinomas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lung adenocarcinoma (ADC) is the main cause of death related to lung cancer. The aim of this study was to identify poor prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) in patients with stage IV lung ADC in real-world clinical practice. METHODS Patients were selected from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database. Chi-square bivariate analysis was used for the association of binary qualitative variables. A multivariate Cox regression analysis was performed to determine the impact of these prognostic factors on OS. RESULTS A total of 46 030 patients were included (51.3% men, mean age 67.03 ± 11.6), of whom 41.3% presented with metastases in bone, 28.9% in brain, 17.1% in liver and 31.8% in lung. Patients with liver metastases presented with two or more metastatic sites more frequently than patients without liver metastases (P < 0.001). Male sex (HR 0.78, 95% CI: 0.76-0.80), age ≥ 65 years (HR 1.37, 95% CI: 1.33-1.40), lack of family support (HR 0.80, 95% CI: 0.78-0.81) and presence of liver (HR 1.45, 95% CI: 1.40-1.50), bone (HR 1.21, 95% CI: 1.18-1.24) or brain metastases (HR 1.18, 95% CI: 1.15-1.21) were identified as poor prognostic factors for OS. Patients with liver metastasis showed the highest hazard ratio value (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The presence of liver metastases was the worst prognostic factor for patients with metastatic lung ADC. This factor should be considered as a stratification factor for future studies evaluating new cancer treatments including immunotherapy. KEY POINTS SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS OF THE STUDY: Regression analysis identified poor prognostic factors for overall survival. Factors were male sex, age ≥ 65 years, lack of family support and presence of liver, bone and brain metastases. Patients with liver metastasis showed the highest HR (HR = 1.45 95% CI: 1.40-1.50). This study included the highest number of adenocarcinoma patients analyzed so far (N = 46 030). What this study adds The presence of liver metastases should be considered as a stratification factor for future studies evaluating new cancer treatments including immunotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychological stress is commonly cited as a risk factor for melanoma, but clinical evidence is limited. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to evaluate the association between partner bereavement and (i) first-time melanoma diagnosis and (ii) mortality in patients with melanoma. METHODS We conducted two cohort studies using data from the U.K. Clinical Practice Research Datalink (1997-2017) and Danish nationwide registries (1997-2016). In study 1, we compared the risk of first melanoma diagnosis in bereaved vs. matched nonbereaved people using stratified Cox regression. In study 2 we estimated hazard ratios (HRs) for death from melanoma in bereaved compared with nonbereaved individuals with melanoma using Cox regression. We estimated HRs separately for the U.K. and for Denmark, and then pooled the data to perform a random-effects meta-analysis. RESULTS In study 1, the pooled adjusted HR for the association between partner bereavement and melanoma diagnosis was 0·88 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0·84-0·92] across the entire follow-up period. In study 2, we observed increased melanoma-specific mortality in people experiencing partner bereavement across the entire follow-up period (HR 1·17, 95% CI 1·06-1·30), with the peak occurring during the first year of follow-up (HR 1·31, 95% CI 1·07-1·60). CONCLUSIONS We found decreased risk of melanoma diagnosis, but increased mortality associated with partner bereavement. These findings may be partly explained by delayed detection resulting from the loss of a partner who could notice skin changes. Stress may play a role in melanoma progression. Our findings indicate the need for a low threshold for skin examination in individuals whose partners have died. What is already known about this topic? Psychological stress has been proposed as a risk factor for the development and progression of cancer, including melanoma, but evidence is conflicting. Clinical evidence is limited by small sample sizes, potential recall bias associated with self-report, and heterogeneous stress definitions. What does this study add? We found a decreased risk of melanoma diagnosis, but increased mortality associated with partner bereavement. While stress might play a role in the progression of melanoma, an alternative explanation is that bereaved people no longer have a close person to help notice skin changes, leading to delayed melanoma detection. Abstract
The aim of this work was to determine whether tumor resection could improve the prognosis of M1a nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. We obtained patient data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and used propensity score matching (PSM) to reduce the influence of confounding variables. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify independent prognostic factors, and the prediction results were visualized using the nomogram. A total of 772 patients with and without tumor resection were enrolled after PSM, and the nomogram combined with independent prognostic factors including age, sex, histological type, grade, T stage, N stage, chemotherapy, and surgery showed great prediction and discriminatory ability. Tumor resection is possibly a better choice for these patients.

Abstract
As a malignant tumor with poor prognosis, accurate and effective treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is crucial. To predict overall survival in patients with stage II and III NSCLC, a nomogram was constructed using data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Eligible patients with NSCLC with available clinical information diagnosed between January 1, 2010 and November 31, 2015 were selected from the database, and the data were randomly divided into a training set and a validation set. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to identify prognostic factors with a threshold of P<0.05, and a nomogram was constructed. Harrell's concordance indexes and calibration plots were used to verify the predictive power of the model. Risk group stratification by stage was also performed. A total of 15,344 patients with stage II and III NSCLC were included in the study. The 3- and 5-year survival rates were 0.382 and 0.278, respectively. The training and validation sets comprised 10,744 and 4,600 patients, respectively. Age, sex, race, marital status, histology, grade, Tumor-Node-Metastasis T and N stage, surgery type, extent of lymph node dissection, radiation therapy and chemotherapy were identified as prognostic factors for the construction of the nomogram. The nomogram exhibited a clinical predictive ability of 0.719 (95% CI, 0.718–0.719) in the training set and 0.721 (95% CI, 0.720–0.722) in the validation set. The predicted calibration curve was similar to the standard curve. In addition, the nomogram was able to divide the patients into groups according to stage IIA, IIB, IIIA, and IIIB NSCLC. Thus, the nomogram provided predictive results for stage II and III NSCLC patients and accurately determined the 3- and 5-year overall survival of patients.

Abstract
To predict survival outcomes for individual patients with clinical T1 high-grade (T1HG) bladder cancer (BC), data from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database were analyzed in the present study. The data of 6,980 cases of T1HG BC between 2004 and 2014 were obtained from the SEER database. Uni- and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to identify significant prognostic factors. Subsequently, prognostic nomograms for predicting 3- and 5-year overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates were constructed based on the SEER database. Clinical information from the SEER database was divided into internal and external groups and used to validate the nomograms. In addition, calibration plot diagrams and concordance indices (C-indices) were used to verify the predictive performance of the nomogram. A total of 6,980 patients were randomly allocated to the training cohort (n=4,886) or the validation cohort (n=2094). Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses indicated that age, ethnicity, tumor size, marital status, radiation and surgical status were independent prognostic factors. These characteristics were used to establish nomograms. The C-indices for OS and CSS rate predictions for the training cohort were 0.707 (95% CI, 0.693–0.721) and 0.700 (95% CI, 0.679–0.721), respectively. Internal and external calibration plot diagrams exhibited an excellent consistency between actual survival rates and nomogram predictions, particularly for 3- and 5-year OS and CSS. The significant prognostic factors in patients with T1HG BC were age, ethnicity, marital status, tumor size, status of surgery and use of radiation. In the present study, a nomogram was developed that may serve as an effective and convenient evaluation tool to help surgeons perform individualized survival evaluations and mortality risk determination for patients with T1HG BC.

Abstract
Purpose: To investigate the management of TaG3 tumours of the urinary bladder using nationwide population-based data in relation to the prevailing guidelines, patients' characteristics, and outcome.Materials and methods: The Bladder Cancer Data Base Sweden (BladderBaSe), including data from the Swedish National Register for Urinary Bladder Cancer (SNRUBC), was used to study all patients with TaG3 bladder cancer diagnosed from 2008 to 2014. Patients were divided into the following management groups: (1) transurethral resection (TUR) only, (2) TUR and intravesical instillation therapy (IVIT), (3) TUR and second-look resection (SLR), and (4) TUR with both SLR and IVIT. Patient and tumour characteristics and outcome were studied.Results: There were 831 patients (83% males) with a median age of 74 years. SLR was performed more often on younger patients, on men, and less often in the Western and Uppsala/Örebro Healthcare regions. IVIT was performed more often with younger patients, with men, in the Western Healthcare region, and less often in the Uppsala/Örebro Healthcare region. Death from bladder cancer occurred in 6% of cases within a median of 29 months (0-84 months) and was lower in the TUR/IVIT and TUR/SLR/IVIT groups compared to the other two groups.Conclusion: In the present study, there was, according to the prevailing treatment guidelines, an under-treatment with SLR for older patients, women, and in some healthcare regions and, similarly, there was an under-treatment with IVIT for older patients. Cancer-specific survival and relative survival were lower in the TUR only group compared to the TUR/IVIT and TUR/SLR/IVIT groups.

Abstract
The surgical treatment of patients with advanced lung cancer remains controversial. The current study aimed to identify the factors affecting the prognosis of patients with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to clarify the surgery guidelines. A total of 27,725 patients diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program between 2010 and 2013. The sex, age, ethnicity, marital status, Tumor-Node-Metastasis stage, radiation therapy received and surgical status of each patient were recorded. Patients were followed up to November 2015. Survival rates were estimated by the Kaplan-Meier method. Single- and multi-factor analyses were performed using the log-rank test and multivariate Cox regression analysis respectively. In the isolated organ metastasis cohort, patients with liver metastasis alone had the worst prognosis, with a median overall survival (OS) of 4 months (liver metastasis vs. other organ metastases; P<0.001). Patients with lung metastasis only had the best prognosis, with a median OS of 8 months (lung metastasis vs. other organ metastases; P<0.001). Furthermore, patients with only one metastasis had the best prognosis, with a median OS of 6 months (single metastasis vs. multiple-organ metastases; P<0.001). The multivariate Cox regression analysis of the isolated-organ metastasis cohort and the multiple-organ metastases cohort revealed that patients who were ≤60 years, female, married, Asian, with N0 stage, had only bone metastasis, accepted wedge resection or lobectomy of the primary tumor, had surgical procedure to distant lymph node(s), and received beam radiation had an improved prognosis compared with the other patients. Age, sex, tumor type, ethnicity, N stage, number and type of metastatic lesions, surgical treatment of primary and metastatic lesions and radiation therapy are factors which influence the prognosis of patients with stage IV NSCLC. Furthermore, surgery may still benefit these patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim was to investigate the association between baseline marital status and mortality using survival (Cox-regression) analysis. STUDY DESIGN This is a prospective cohort study. METHODS The public health survey by Scania in 2008 was linked to the Swedish cause of death register. This prospective cohort study includes 12,245 men and 14,969 women aged 18-80 years, and 538 men and 362 women of them died during the 5.3-year follow-up. RESULTS Unmarried, divorced, and widowed men had significantly higher hazard rate ratios (HRRs) of all-cause mortality than married/cohabitating men. For women, the HRRs of these groups did not significantly differ from those of the married/cohabitating reference group. CONCLUSIONS The results are in accordance with a previous study that only compared those living alone with those cohabitating.

Abstract
To identify whether marital status is associated with survival in patients with bladder urothelial carcinoma (UC). Using Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results population-based data, 133,846 patients diagnosed with bladder UC between 1988 and 2009 were identified. Kaplan-Meier methods and multivariable Cox regression models were used for survival analyses and evaluation of the association between marital status and survival, after controlling for gender, age, race, primary site, tumor (topography), lymph node, metastasis stage, pathological grading, and surgery. Patients in the married group had a higher proportion of men within group comparisons, more often white, older, earlier clinical stage at diagnosis, surgical treatment, all of which were statistically significant (P < .001). Widowed patients had the worst bladder UC cause-specific survival (CSS) compared with married, never married, and so on groups classified by stage and grade. The 5-year CSS of widowed patients compared with that of married patients was, respectively, all (P < .001), 89.8% versus 95.8% at noninvasive papillary carcinoma stage, 84.1% versus 91.6% at occur in situ stage, 74.3% versus 86.1% at I stage, 41.2% versus 61.6% at II stage, 39.2 versus 52.5% at III stage, and 8.8% versus 17.0% at IV stage. Widowed patients tend to have a significantly higher risk of bladder-cancer-specific mortality. Marital status was relevant to improved CSS in patients with bladder UC.

Abstract
Purpose To assess the effect of marital status and the role of race/ethnicity on breast cancer specific mortality in women with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Methods The study utilized the California Cancer Registry to identify 22,812 cases of first primary female TNBC. Unadjusted Kaplan-Meier breast cancer specific survival was computed. Cox Proportional Hazards modeling was used to compute the adjusted risk of breast cancer specific mortality for women who were single, separated, divorced, and widowed when compared with women who were married. Models were adjusted for age, stage, tumor grade, SES, and treatment with surgery, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and radiation therapy. Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were reported. Results Separated (HR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.14–2.01) and widowed (HR: 1.39; 95%CI: 1.23–1.57) white women had a higher risk of mortality than white married women whereas single and divorced white women had the same risk of mortality. For Asian/Pacific Islanders (API), only single (HR: 1.55; 95% CI: 1.17–2.06) and divorced (HR:1.81; 95% CI:1.26–2.60) women had a higher risk of mortality than married women. Marital status had no influence on risk of mortality for either black or Hispanic women. Conclusions The risk of mortality associated with marital status is dependent on race/ethnicity. Only white and API women with TNBC have a marital advantage.
