Abstract
Previous studies have demonstrated a strong correlation between the Triglyceride-Glucose Index(TyG) index and diabetes mellitus; however, limited research has focused on the relationship between the TyG index and the incidence of diabetes mellitus in the Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) population. This study aims to investigate the association between the TyG index and the occurrence of diabetes mellitus in the MASLD population in Japan. This retrospective cohort study included 2,741 patients with MASLD from Murakami Memorial Hospital in Japan, spanning the years 2004 to 2015. The primary method employed to investigate the relationship between the TyG index and the occurrence of diabetes was Cox proportional hazards regression. Additionally, a Generalized Additive Model and a two-piecewise linear regression model were utilized to assess whether a linear relationship exists between the TyG index and the development of diabetes, as well as to calculate threshold effects. After adjusting for variables that may potentially influence the occurrence of diabetes, we found that the TyG index was positively correlated with diabetes incidence (HR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.98) in MASLD population overall. Further in-depth analysis revealed a nonlinear relationship between the TyG index and the occurrence of diabetes. When the TyG index was less than 7.95, it exhibited a negative correlation (HR = 0.22, 95% CI: 0.07, 0.66); however, when the TyG index exceeded 7.95, it showed a positive correlation (HR = 1.68, 95% CI: 1.20, 2.36). Additionally, we conducted a subject working curve analysis on the TyG index and the two components used to calculate it, fasting blood glucose and triglycerides, and found that the TyG index demonstrated higher sensitivity and specificity in predicting the occurrence of diabetes in the MASLD population. TyG index exhibits a nonlinear relationship with the incidence of diabetes in the MASLD population, and its sensitivity and specificity are superior to those of fasting blood glucose and triglycerides.

Abstract
The Triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) is a comprehensive statistical measure that incorporates fasting triglyceride and fasting glucose levels. Research has demonstrated that it can serve as an effective alternative biomarker for insulin resistance (IR) due to its high sensitivity and specificity. The TyG index is straightforward to compute and imposes fewer time and cost constraints, rendering it suitable for large populations and advantageous for use in various applications, clinical settings, and epidemiological investigations. Numerous high-quality clinical studies have underscored the significance of the TyG index in diverse medical conditions. This review provides a synthesis of the association between the TyG index and diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, fatty liver, kidney diseases, and reproductive system diseases. Furthermore, the TyG index has exhibited predictive capabilities for identifying IR in children and adolescents. Through a systematic review of pertinent clinical trials, this paper elucidates the correlation between the TyG index and various diseases. The findings presented herein suggest that the TyG index holds promise as a valuable and practical indicator for different medical conditions, prompting a reevaluation of conventional disease risk assessment paradigms and highlighting the intricate interplay of metabolic parameters with diverse diseases. By leveraging insights from the TyG index, tailored disease risk management strategies can be developed to offer a fresh perspective and guidance for clinical interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index represents a simple, cost-effective, and valid proxy for insulin resistance. This surrogate marker has also been proposed as a predictor of metabolic and cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this descriptive review, we aimed to assess the utility of the TyG index as a predictive biomarker of cardiometabolic diseases. METHODS A search was conducted in PubMed, and Web of Science to identify cross-sectional and more importantly prospective studies examining the use of the TyG index as a predictive biomarker. The following terms were utilized in addition to the TyG index: "insulin resistance", "metabolic syndrome", "diabetes"; "cardiovascular diseases". RESULTS This descriptive review included thirty prospective studies in addition to cross-sectional studies. Following adjustment for confounding variables, an elevated TyG index was associated with a significantly increased risk for the development of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), Type 2 Diabetes, hypertension, and CVD. Also in limited studies, the TyG index was associated with endothelial dysfunction, increased oxidative stress and a pro-inflammatory phenotype. CONCLUSION Overall, our findings support the use of the TyG index as a valid biomarker to assess the risk of developing MetS, T2DM, as well as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
AIM This study aimed to investigate the separate and joint associations of triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index accumulation and variability with prediabetes and diabetes risk. METHODS Health check-up participants who underwent 3 sequential health examinations during 2012-2016 and were followed up from 2017 to 2021 were enrolled and categorized into two subcohorts: (a) progression from normoglycaemia to prediabetes subcohort (n = 9373) and (b) progression from prediabetes to diabetes subcohort (n = 4563). Cumulative TyG (cumTyG) and TyG variability from Exams 1-3 were the exposures of interest in our study. The outcomes were newly incident prediabetes or diabetes. RESULTS In the prediabetes development subcohort, 2,074 participants developed prediabetes over a 2.42-year follow-up. Higher cumTyG (HR, 2.02; 95 % CI, 1.70-2.41), but not greater TyG variability alone, was significantly associated with increased prediabetes risk. In the diabetes development subcohort, 379 participants developed diabetes over a 3.0-year follow-up. Higher cumTyG (HR, 3.54; 95 % CI, 2.29-5.46), but not greater TyG variability alone, was significantly associated with increased diabetes risk. The "cumTyG+variability" combination had the highest predictive value for prediabetes and diabetes beyond a single baseline TyG measurement. CONCLUSION Higher cumTyG exposure independently predicts prediabetes and diabetes incidence. Coexisting cumTyG and variability could further yield incrementally greater risks.

Abstract
Insulin resistance (IR) is the major mechanism in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Early identification of IR is of great significance for preventing the onset of T2DM and delaying the progression of the disease. Previous studies have shown that triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index can be used as an effective surrogate marker for IR. There is a significant correlation between TyG index and T2DM and its common complications. In addition, the predictive efficacy of TyG index is better than that of other IR surrogate indicators. TyG index may not only become an important marker to identify people at high risk of T2DM and its complications, but is also expected to become a strong predictor of the prognosis of these diseases. However, there are still some challenges in the widespread application of TyG index in clinical practice. In the future, more high-quality studies are needed to clarify the assessment methods of TyG index for the prognosis of T2DM and its complications. Further investigations of the relationship between TyG index and T2DM and its complications will be expected to provide new ideas and methods for the prevention and treatment of T2DM and its complications.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the prevalence of depression in individuals with type 2 diabetes. A nationally representative sample of 3225 individuals with type 2 diabetes was enrolled in this study. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to assess the association between the TyG index and depression, adjusting for potential confounding factors. After adjusting for age, gender, BMI, smoking, alcohol consumption, congestive heart failure, and coronary heart disease, a significant positive association was found between the TyG index and the prevalence of depression in individuals with type 2 diabetes (OR = 1.54, 95% CI: 1.21-1.95). Subgroup analyses showed consistent associations across various demographic and clinical subgroups. This study provides evidence of a significant independent positive association between the TyG index and the prevalence of depression in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Abstract
PURPOSE The triglycerides and glucose (TyG) index is a reliable biomarker for estimating insulin resistance; however, evidence regarding the use of the TyG index in individuals with metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) is scarce. Thus, we examined the association between the TyG index and the MHO phenotype. METHODS Apparently healthy men and women aged 18 years or more with obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥ 30 kg/m2) were allocated into the following groups: MHO and metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO). The MHO phenotype was defined by obesity and the absence of the following metabolic disorders: elevated triglyceride concentrations, elevated glucose levels, elevated blood pressure, and low HDL-C. The MUO was defined by individuals with obesity and at least one of the aforementioned cardiovascular risk factors. RESULTS A total 827 individuals, 605 (73.1%) women and 222 (26.9%) men were enrolled and allocated into the MHO (n = 104) and MUO (n = 723) groups. The adjusted regression analysis by age, sex, BMI, and waist circumference showed that fasting glucose (OR = 0.90; 95% CI: 0.88-0.93), and triglycerides (OR = 0.97; 95% CI: 0.96-0.98), as well as the triglycerides/HDL-C (OR = 0.18; 95% CI: 0.13-0.26), lipid accumulation product (OR = 0.95; 95% CI: 0.93-0.96), visceral adipose index (OR = 0.38; 95% CI: 0.31-0.46), and TyG index (OR = 0.001; 95% CI: 0.000-0.004) are inversely associated with the MHO, while the HDL-C (OR = 1.10; 95% CI: 1.07-1.12) had a direct association. CONCLUSIONS Our results show that the TyG index is more strongly associated with the MHO phenotype than the lipid and obesity indices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to investigate the association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index in early pregnancy and the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the second trimester. The primary objectives were to evaluate the predictive potential of the TyG index for GDM, determine the optimal threshold value of the TyG index for GDM assessment, and compare the predictive performance of the TyG index alone versus its combination with maternal age and pre-pregnancy body mass index on GDM. Moreover, the study explored the association between the TyG index in early pregnancy and the risk of other pregnancy-related complications (PRCs), such as placental abruption and gestational hypertension. PATIENTS AND METHODS This prospective cohort study recruited 1,624 pregnant women who underwent early pregnancy antenatal counseling and comprehensive assessments with continuous monitoring until delivery. To calculate the TyG index, health indicators, including maternal triglycerides and fasting plasma glucose, were measured in early pregnancy (< 14 weeks of gestation). The predictive power of the TyG index for evaluating GDM in Chinese pregnant women was determined using multifactorial logistic regression to derive the odds ratios and 95% confidence interval (CI). Subgroup analyses were conducted, and the efficacy of the TyG index in predicting PRCs was assessed via receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and restricted cubic spline, with the optimal cutoff value calculated. RESULTS Logistic regression analyses revealed a 2.10-fold increase in the GDM risk for every 1-unit increase in the TyG index, after adjusting for covariates. The highest GDM risk was observed in the group with the highest TyG index compared with the lowest quintile group (odds ratios: 3.25; 95% CI: 2.23-4.75). Subgroup analyses indicated that exceeding the recommended range of gestational weight gain and an increased GDM risk were significantly associated (P = 0.001). Regarding predictive performance, the TyG index exhibited the highest area under the curve (AUC) value in the ROC curve for GDM (AUC: 0.641, 95% CI: 0.61-0.671). The optimal cutoff value was 8.890, with both sensitivity and specificity of 0.617.The combination of the TyG index, maternal age, and pre-pregnancy body mass index proved to be a superior predictor of GDM than the TyG index alone (AUC: 0.672 vs. 0.641, P < 0.01). After adjusting for multiple factors, the analyses indicated that the TyG index was associated with an increased risk of gestational hypertension. However, no significant association was noted between the TyG index and the risk of preeclampsia, placental abruption, intrauterine distress, or premature rupture of membranes. CONCLUSION The TyG index can effectively identify the occurrence of GDM in the second trimester, aligning with previous research. Incorporating the TyG index into routine clinical assessments of maternal health holds significant practical implications. Early identification of high-risk groups enables healthcare providers to implement timely interventions, such as increased monitoring frequency for high-risk pregnant women and personalized nutritional counseling and health education. These measures can help prevent or alleviate potential maternal and infant complications, thereby enhancing the overall health outcomes for both mothers and babies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The connection between the triglyceride-glucose index (TyG index) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is currently debated. Our study aimed to investigate the connection between the TyG index and GDM within the Korean population. METHODS Using publically accessible data in Korea, we performed a secondary study on a sample of 589 pregnant women who were carrying a single fetus. The analysis employed a binary logistic regression model, some sensitivity analyses, and subgroup analysis to investigate the association between the TyG index and the occurrence of GDM. To assess the TyG index's potential to predict GDM, a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) study was also carried out. RESULTS The mean age of the pregnant women was 32.065 ± 3.798 years old, while the mean TyG index was 8.352 ± 0.400. The prevalence rate of GDM was found to be 6.112%. Upon adjusting for potential confounding variables, a positive association was detected between the TyG index and incident GDM (OR = 12.923, 95%CI: 3.581-46.632, p = 0.00009). The validity of this connection was further confirmed by subgroup analysis and sensitivity analyses. With an area under the ROC curve of 0.807 (95%CI: 0.734-0.879), the TyG index showed strong predictive power for GDM. The TyG index's ideal cutoff value for detecting GDM was found to be 8.632, with a sensitivity of 78.7% and a specificity of 72.2%. CONCLUSION The findings of our study provide evidence that an increased TyG index is significantly associated with the occurrence of GDM. Utilizing the TyG index during the 10-14 week gestational period may be a valuable tool in identifying pregnant individuals at a heightened risk for developing GDM. Early detection enables timely and efficacious interventions, thereby enhancing the prognosis of affected individuals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) was a new indicator of insulin resistance, and it has been widely reported that it may be associated with serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations. AIMS We intended to investigate the possible connection between serum PSA concentration and the TyG index. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study of adults with complete data on TyG and serum PSA concentrations (ng/ml) from the NHANES, 2003-2010. The TyG index is obtained by the formula below: TyG = Ln [triglycerides (mg/dL) × fasting glucose(mg/dL)/2]. Multivariate regression analysis and subgroup analysis were used to examine the connection between the TyG index and serum PSA levels. RESULTS Multiple regression analysis of the weighted linear model showed that individuals with a higher TyG index had lower PSA levels. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests showed no apparent dependence on age, race/ethnicity, BMI, household income ratio, education level, and marital status on this negative association (all interactions p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS TyG index is related to lower serum PSA concentrations in adult men from the USA. Further comprehensive prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The triglyceride glucose (TyG) and triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c) are the indices that can predict the progression of pre-diabetes to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to examine the relationship between TyG and TG/HDL-c indices with the incidence of T2DM in pre-diabetes patients. METHODS A total of 758 pre-diabetic patients aged 35-70 years who were enrolled in a prospective Fasa Persian Adult Cohort were followed up for 60 months. TyG and TG/HDL-C indices were obtained at baseline data and divided into quartiles. The 5-year cumulative incidence of T2DM was analyzed by Cox proportional hazards regression analysis while controlling for baseline covariates. RESULTS During 5 years of follow-up, there were 95 incident cases of T2DM, with an overall incidence rate of 12.53%. After adjusting for age, sex, smoking, marital status, socioeconomic status, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference, hypertension, total cholesterol, and dyslipidemia, the multivariate-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) demonstrated that patients with the highest TyG and TG/HDL-C indices quartile were at higher risk of T2DM (HR = 4.42, 95%CI 1.75-11.21) and (HR = 2.15, 95%CI 1.04-4.47), respectively, compared to participants in the lowest quartile. As the quantiles of these indices increase, the HR value shows a significant increment (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION The results of our study showed that the TyG and TG/HDL-C indices can be important independent predictors for the progression of pre-diabetes to T2DM. Therefore, controlling the components of these indicators in pre-diabetes patients can prevent developing T2DM or delay its occurrence.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the relationships of the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index with pregnancy-related complications (PRCs) and to clarify the predictability of the TyG index for PRCs. Patients and Methods Totally of 11,387 women with a singleton pregnancy were prospectively followed until after delivery. Maternal fasting lipids and glucose concentration were measured in the first trimester (11 weeks gestation on average). The TyG index was calculated as ln [triglyceride (mg/dL) × fasting plasma glucose (mg/dL)/2]. We used generalized linear models to calculate the relative risks and 95% confidence intervals. Receiver-operating characteristic curve analysis was employed to assess the ability of the TyG index to predict the risks of PRCs. Results Smooth spline reveals that the probability of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is intensified with the increasing TyG index. Multivariate logistic regression adjusted for risk factors demonstrates a 1-unit and a 1-SD increment in the TyG index raises the risk of GDM by 3.63 and 1.57 times, respectively. Identically, the risk of GDM maximizes in the TyG quintile 5 (OR: 3.14; 95% CI: 2.55~3.85) relative to the lowest TyG index group. However, no association between TyG index and the risk of other PRCs was observed after full adjustment. The area under receiver operating characteristic curves is 0.647 (95% CI: 0.632-0.66) for GDM, and the optimal predictive cut-off is 8.55, with a specificity of 0.679 and sensitivity of 0.535. Conclusion The first-trimester TyG index is significantly associated with the risk of incident GDM, while the relationships between the TyG index and other PRCs need further exploration.

Abstract
There is no study exploring the association between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and skeletal muscle mass in Chinese adolescents. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore the association between TyG index and appendicular lean mass (ALM) in Chinese adolescents. In this study, 1336 adolescents (805 boys, 60.25%) aged 12-18 years in China were randomly selected through a stratified cluster sampling. According to the tertiles of TyG index, we separated all participants into three groups, and LM was measured by Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. The TyG index was negatively related to ALM/weight in Chinese adolescents whether stratified by gender (boys: β = - 0.293; girls: β = - 0.195; all P < 0.001). After adjusting for age and BMI, a significant correlation between the TyG index and ALM/weight was observed only in boys (β = - 0.169, P = 0.001). The highest TyG index tertile was significantly associated with low ALM/weight after adjusting for all covariates in the full sample (OR = 3.04, 95% CI 1.12-8.26, P = 0.029) and boys (OR = 4.68, 95% CI 1.22-17.95, P = 0.025) only in overweight/obese group. Our findings suggested elevated levels of TyG index may be a risk factor of low ALM/weight in Chinese adolescents, especially in boys.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS There is a bi-directional association between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and metabolic syndrome. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is a novel surrogate marker of insulin resistance. In this population-based study, we aimed firstly to investigate the association of the TyG-index with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) risk. METHODS This case-control study used the data from the first phase of the Persian Cohort Study in Sabzevar. Of 4,241 participants aged 35 to 70 years, we identified and recruited 968 MAFLD cases and 964 age- and sex-adjusted controls. Demographic, lifestyle, anthropometric, and biochemical information were collected. We calculated TyG and a new index combined of TyG and alanine aminotransferase (TyG-ALT). We used the multivariable unconditional logistic regression model to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) of the TyG and TyG-ALT for having MAFLD. RESULTS Among those in the highest relative to the lowest TyG and TyG-ALT tertiles, the multivariable-adjusted ORs were 12.01 (95% CI [confidence interval] 9.03 - 15.98; P trend < 0.001) and 10.89 (95% CI 7.66 - 15.48; P trend = 0.001), respectively. The area under the curves (AUC) for the TyG-index to predict MAFLD was 8.62, resulting in a cut-off value of 8.62 with a sensitivity of 81.66% and specificity of 75.36%. CONCLUSIONS The higher TyG and TyG-ALT scores were significantly positively associated with higher MAFLD risk in the Iranian population.

Abstract
Objective We aimed to investigate the effect of the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index on the association between diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods Data from 6,114 individuals were extracted and analyzed from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2018. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to assess the relationship between diabetes and CVD across the various TyG index groups. The statistical method of subgroup analysis was used to determine the correlation between diabetes and CVD for each TyG index group by sex, history of hypertension and dyslipidemia, smoking, and drinking. Results Diabetes was positively associated with CVD risk after adjustment in 2011(odds ratio (OR) 1.475, 95% CI 1.243–1.752, P < 0.001). There was a gradient increase in the OR for new-onset CVD in 2018 due to diabetes at baseline across the value of the TyG index based on a fully adjusted model (P for trend < 0.05). The ORs of diabetes at baseline for CVD in 2018 were 1.657 (95% CI 0.928–2.983, P = 0.098), 1.834(95% CI 1.064–3.188, P = 0.037) and 2.234(95% CI 1.349–3.673, P = 0.006) for T1, T2 and T3 of the TyG index respectively. The gradient of increasing risk of CVD still existed among those with hypertension and nondrinkers in the subgroup analysis. Conclusion Elevated TyG index strengthens the correlation between diabetes mellitus and CVD in middle-aged and elderly Chinese adults.

Predictive Effect of Triglyceride Glucose-Related Parameters, Obesity Indices, and Lipid Ratios for Diabetes in a Chinese Population: A Prospective Cohort Study. Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between triglyceride glucose (TyG) index and new-onset diabetes under different glycemic states and to compare the predictive value of TyG-related parameters, obesity indices, and lipid ratios for new-onset diabetes. Methods Data were collected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), consisting of 6,258 participants aged ≥45 years. Participants were grouped according to their glycemic states. Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic spline regression were used to explore the association between TyG index and diabetes. Cox proportional hazard models were applied to confirm the predictive value of the optimal marker. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to compare the predictive value. Results TyG index was positively correlated with the risk of diabetes (hazard ratio (HR), 1.75; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.56-1.97), and the linear association existed (p < 0.001). The highest correlation with diabetes was visceral adiposity index (VAI) (HR, 2.04; 95% CI, 1.44-2.90) in normal fasting glucose (NFG) group and TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI) (HR, 2.53; 95% CI, 1.97-3.26) in impaired fasting glucose (IFG) group. The largest area under curve (AUC) was observed in TyG-waist-to-height ratio (TyG-WHtR) in the NFG group (AUC, 0.613; 95% CI, 0.527-0.700), and TyG-BMI had the highest AUC in the IFG group (AUC, 0.643; 95% CI, 0.601-0.685). Conclusion The association between TyG index and new-onset diabetes was positive and linear. TyG-WHtR was a clinically effective marker for identifying the risks of diabetes in the NFG group and TyG-BMI was an effective marker to predict diabetes in the IFG group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Three non-insulin-based insulin resistance (IR) indices, ie, triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-C) ratio, and metabolic score for IR (METS-IR), were considered powerful and simplified alternatives for IR. However, evidence for the association between the three IR indices and incident type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), especially impaired fasting glucose (IFG), remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the association among IR indices, incident IFG, and T2DM in a rural population cohort. METHODS We analyzed data from 2209 adults (aged 24-75 years) at baseline and from 1205 normoglycemic participants who were followed up. Cox proportional hazards models were used to evaluate the associations between the three indices and IFG or T2DM. Restricted cubic spline curves based on the Cox regression model were used to examine the association between baseline indices and incident T2DM. RESULTS For the baseline data, logistic analyses demonstrated that the TyG index, TG/HDL-C ratio, and METS-IR had a significantly positive correlation with IFG or T2DM after multivariable adjustment. During a median follow-up of 12.17 years, 157 incident cases of IFG and 97 incident cases of T2DM were noted. The risk of T2DM, but not IFG, was strongly associated with the baseline TyG index in the adjusted model, and participants with the TyG index in the third tertile had a higher risk of developing T2DM (adjusted hazards ratio, 2.84; 95% confidence intervals, 1.26-6.37; p for trend <0.001) than those in the lowest tertile (reference). Moreover, a linear relationship was observed between the TyG index and T2DM incidence. The TG/HDL-C ratio and METS-IR had no significant relationship with the risk of IFG or T2DM. CONCLUSION The TyG index is more useful than the TG/HDL-C ratio and METS-IR in predicting T2DM in the normoglycemic population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance are closely related. The triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index is frequently used as an indicator of insulin resistance. However, there is scant information on the TyG index in the prediabetic population, nor is the prognostic significance of the index known for prediabetes and acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients. METHODS The clinical endpoint was a major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular event (MACCEs), including cardiac-related death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, ischemia-driven revascularization, and stroke. The TyG index was calculated as = ln [(triglyceride level, mg/dL) × (glucose level, mg/dL)÷2] under fasting conditions. RESULTS The study included 2,030 prediabetic patients with ACS. Patients were followed up for 2.5 years, during which the total incidence of MACCEs was 12%. After adjustment for covariates, the TyG index was found to be predictive of prediabetes with ACS (HR 4.942, 95%CI: 3.432-6.115, P<0.001). Using propensity score matching, 574 pairs were successfully matched, and the two groups were analyzed in terms of survival. This showed that there was a significantly greater incidence of MACCEs in patients with high TyG indices (HR 3.526, 95%CI: 2.618-4.749, P<0.001), mainly due to ischemia-driven revascularization and stroke. CONCLUSIONS The TyG index independently predicts future MACCEs and may be an important prognostic indicator for patients with prediabetes and ACS.

Abstract
PURPOSE The study aimed to investigate the relationship between 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH) D] and triglyceride glucose index (TyG) levels in male and female patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). PATIENTS AND METHODS This cross-sectional study recruited 592 patients with type 2 diabetes. The subjects were divided into the non-vitamin D deficiency group [25(OH)D≥20ng/mL] and the vitamin D deficiency group [25(OH)D<20ng/mL]. The triglyceride glucose (TyG) index is calculated using the following formula, ln[fasting triglycerides (mg/dL)*fasting blood glucose (mg/dL)/2]. Participants were divided into high TyG group and low TyG group, with the median of TyG as the boundary. All participants were divided into male and female groups and normal Body mass index (BMI) and high BMI groups, and then divided into high TyG group and low TyG group. RESULTS We found that TyG levels are independently and negatively correlated with vitamin D levels in male patients with T2DM. In the female group, there was no significant correlation between TyG and vitamin D levels, regardless of an adjusted or unadjusted confounding factor. Subgroup analysis showed that the correlation between TyG and the risk of vitamin D deficiency in the normal BMI group was significantly stronger than that in the high BMI group. CONCLUSION This study indicates that vitamin D deficiency is related to high TyG level in patients with T2DM for males, and this relationship is not significant for female patients. The risk of vitamin D deficiency is significantly correlated with high TyG level in normal BMI group. However, there was no statistically significant difference between TyG level and the risk of vitamin D deficiency in the high BMI group. Abstract
Aim We aimed to examine the relationship between the Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the incidence of type 2 diabetes in people with different phenotypes of obesity. Methods From May 1, 1994 to December 31, 2016, 15,464 participants were enrolled in the medical examination program at the Murakami Memorial Hospital to determine the relationship between the TyG index and the incidence of type 2 diabetes in people with different phenotypes of obesity after 5.38 years of follow-up. Results Besides triglycerides, HbA1c%, and FPG, the incidence of type 2 diabetes was found to be significantly associated with the TyG index (p <0.001), age (p <0.001), BMI (p = 0.033), current smoker (p <0.001), and fatty liver (p <0.001). In participants with visceral fat obesity and/or ectopic fat obesity and normal BMI, the TyG index was significantly associated with the incidence of type 2 diabetes after adjusting for confounding factors. In patients with BMI ≥25 mg/m2, although there was a trend of the relationship between the TyG index and the incidence of type 2 diabetes, the relationship was no longer positive. Conclusion In participants with obesity involving visceral fat obesity and/or fatty liver and normal BMI which is not a measure of body fat distribution, there was a significant association between the TyG index and incidence of T2DM.

Abstract
Background Serum lipid abnormalities are generally considered as a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, evidence for the effect of long-term serum lipid fluctuations on future T2DM probability remains limited. Methods A total of 4475 nondiabetic participants who underwent annual health examinations between 2010 and 2013 were followed for the subsequent 5-year risk of T2DM. The Cox proportional hazards model was performed to evaluate the associations of visit-to-visit variabilities and trajectories of triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) with T2DM probability. Results During the five-year follow-up, 223 newly developed T2DM cases were identified. Compared with the “Low” TG trajectory, “Moderate” and “Moderate-High” TG trajectories were significantly associated with T2DM incidence, with adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) of 1.51 (1.12-2.03) and 2.55 (1.62-4.03), respectively. Additionally, participants in the third and fourth quartiles of TG/standard deviation (SD) were associated with increased T2DM probability when compared with those in the lowest quartile. After excluding individuals with prediabetes, participants with “Moderate-High” TG trajectory still had a 2.43-fold greater risk of T2DM compared with those with “Low” TG trajectory (95 % CI: 1.28-4.63). In addition, compared with participants in “Low” HDL-c trajectory, the future T2DM probability was significantly reduced in those with “Moderate” and “High” HDL-c trajectories, with HR (95 % CI) of 0.52 (0.37-0.72) and 0.38 (0.18-0.80), respectively. After excluding individuals with prediabetes, the “Moderate” HDL-c trajectory remained associated with decreased T2DM probability when compared with “Low” HDL-c trajectory (HR: 0.55, 95 % CI: 0.35-0.88). However, the incidence of T2DM was not associated with the long-term fluctuations of TC and LDL-c. Conclusions Long-term visit-to-visit variability of TG, and the change trajectories of TG and HDL-c were significantly associated with future T2DM probability. Moreover, these associations were not affected after excluding individuals with prediabetes. Abstract
AIMS We aimed to examine the association between the Triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and clinical outcome of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) patients with drug-eluting stents (DESs). METHODS From July 2009 to August 2011, 2533 patients who underwent at least one PCI with DESs were enrolled to determine the relationship between the TyG index and MACCEs with a 29.8-month follow-up. In addition, the Logistic regression proportional hazard model was applied to assess the prognostic value of the TyG index. RESULTS The MACCEs was associated with, history of heart failure (p = 0.049), third degree AVB (p = 0.008) and stroke (p = 0.033), SBP (p < 0.001), DBP (p = 0.001), number of diseased vessels, location of target lesions, characteristics of lesion, number of treated vessels, number of stents, length of stents (p = 0.003) and stent diameter (p < 0.001). The multivariate Logistic regression analysis revealed that the TyG index was an independent prognostic factor for MACCEs in female patients (OR = 1.68, 95 %CI = 1.12-2.54, p = 0.013) but not in male (OR = 0.95, 95 %CI = 0.74-1.21, p = 0.657). CONCLUSION The TyG index was independently associated with MACCEs in female patients undergoing PCI with DESs, but not in men.

Abstract
ABSTARCT AIMS: We aimed to assess the dose-response relationship between triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS We performed a comprehensive systematic literature search using PubMed, Scopus, and Embase for records published from inception until 9 February 2021. The effect estimates were reported as relative risks (RRs). RESULTS 270,229 subjects from 14 studies were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled incidence of T2DM was 9%. Meta-regression analysis indicates that baseline age (coefficient: 0.67, p = 0.026), drinking (coefficient: 0.03, p = 0.035), and HDL (coefficient: -0.89, p = 0.035) affected the incidence of T2DM in future. High TyG index was associated with increased incidence of T2DM in pooled unadjusted (RR 4.68 [3.01, 7.29], p < 0.001; I2: 96.6%) and adjusted model (adjusted RR 3.54 [2.75, 4.54], p < 0.001; I2: 83.7%). Dose-response meta-analysis for the adjusted RR showed that the linear association analysis was not significant per 0.1 increase in TyG index (RR 1.01 [0.99, 1.03], p = 0.223). There is a non-linear trend (p < 0.001) for the association between TyG index and incidence of T2DM. The dose-response curve became increasingly steeper at TyG index above 8.6. CONCLUSIONS TyG index was associated with the incidence of T2DM in a non-linear fashion.
