Abstract
Psychrophilic Pseudomonas fluorescens can secrete extracellular enzymes, biofilms, and other substances even under refrigeration conditions, which have a negative impact on the quality of dairy products, aquatic products, meat products, produce, and other foods, causing food spoilage and huge economic losses. Therefore, strengthening the prevention and control of psychrophilic P. fluorescens in food is of great significance. Although some reviews have introduced information on P. fluorescens, there are few reviews that provide detailed information on the psychrophilic mechanism, detection, prevention, and control methods of psychrophilic P. fluorescens. Therefore, to comprehensively address the shortcomings of previous reviews, this review provides a detailed overview of the physiological characteristics, secreted spoilage factors, psychrophilic mechanisms, and prevention and control methods, such as bacteriophages, quorum sensing inhibitors, and nanomaterials of P. fluorescens. And future research directions for the prevention and control strategies of P. fluorescens are discussed. The future research focus will be on strengthening the detection of P. fluorescens and adopting a combination of multiple technologies to prevent and control P. fluorescens without affecting food nutrition and quality while preventing the occurrence of drug resistance. This article aims to provide references for improving the quality and safety of refrigerated food and extending its shelf life.

Abstract
Aquatic products are an important part of the human diet, but they are easily contaminated by Pseudomonas spp., which leads to food deterioration and economic loss. In this paper, the main characteristics of psychrotrophic Pseudomonas in aquatic products are reviewed, including its growth adaptation mechanism and biofilm formation ability at low temperatures, and the key role of psychrotrophic Pseudomonas in aquatic product spoilage is emphasized. Studies have shown that psychrotrophic Pseudomonas can produce a variety of volatile compounds by decomposing proteins and amino acids, affecting the sensory quality and safety of aquatic products. A variety of control strategies to extend the shelf life of aquatic products have been explored, including physical, chemical, and biological methods, particularly biofilm-specific inhibition techniques such as inhibition of quorum sensing and the application of natural antimicrobials. Future research should prioritize the development of novel anti-biofilm products to address the growing problem of psychrotrophic Pseudomonas contamination in the aquatic product industry to ensure food safety and public health.

Abstract
The Pseudomonas genus includes species present in various environments and known for antibiotic resistance. However, only hospital-associated Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been extensively studied regarding antibiotic resistance. Thus, to fill the gap in knowledge on antibiotic resistance among other Pseudomonas spp., we investigated 41 isolates from soil samples taken in the Białowieża National Park in Northeastern Poland. This unique forest without notable anthropogenic influence, provides excellent conditions for research of antibiotic resistance from the perspective of natural environments. The phylogeny trees obtained based on the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene and gyrB gene grouped the isolates into clusters belonging to the Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas koreensis, and Pseudomonas putida groups, originating from the P. fluorescens lineage. All isolates under study demonstrated resistance to at least 12 out of the 24 antibiotics tested. Resistance to colistin, cefotaxime, and imipenem was detected in 73, 73, and 17% of the isolates, respectively. Most isolates showing resistance to imipenem and colistin clustered within the P. fluorescens group. Seven isolates were highly multi-resistant, to up to 18 of the 24 antibiotics tested. The presence of resistance genes related to intrinsic resistance of P. aeruginosa has been confirmed in environmental isolates.

Abstract
Exploring the untapped potential of deep-sea microorganisms, particularly their cold-active enzymes, or psychrozymes, offers exciting possibilities for revolutionizing various aspects of the food processing industry. This review focuses on these enzymes, derived from the largely unexplored depths of the deep ocean, where microorganisms have developed unique adaptations to extreme conditions. Psychrozymes, as bioactive molecules, hold significant promise for food industry applications. However, despite their potential, the understanding and industrial utilization of psychrozymes remains limited. This review provides an in-depth analysis of how psychrozymes can: improve processing efficiency, enhance sensory qualities, extend product shelf life, and reduce energy consumption across the food production chain. We explore the cryodefense strategies and cold-adaptation mechanisms that support these enzymes, shedding light on the most extensively studied psychrozymes and assessing their journey from theoretical applications to practical use in food production. The key properties, such as stability, substrate specificity, and catalytic efficiency in cold environments, are also discussed. Although psychrozymes show considerable promise, their large-scale application in the food industry remains largely unexplored. This review emphasizes the need for further research to unlock the full potential of psychrozymes, encouraging their broader integration into the food sector to contribute to more sustainable food production processes.

Abstract
Due to human activities and severe climatic conditions, the population of Ammodendron bifolium, an excellent sand-fixing plant, has gradually decreased in the Takeermohuer Desert. The plant-associated bacteria community can enhance its survival in harsh environments. However, the understanding of A. bifolium-associated bacterial community is still unclear during the harsh winter. We investigated the bacterial community structure from the A. bifolium rhizosphere and nonrhizosphere at different depths (i.e., 0-40 cm, 40-80 cm, 80-120 cm) and from endosphere (i.e., root endosphere and stem endosphere) in winter. At the same time, we analyzed the impact of different compartments and soil factors on the bacterial community structure. Studies have shown that the A. bifolium rhizosphere exhibits higher levels of SOM (soil organic matter), SOC (soil organic carbon), SAN (soil alkaline nitrogen), and SAK (soil available potassium) compared with the nonrhizosphere. The dominant bacterial phyla were Proteobacteria (19.6%), Cyanobacteria (15.9%), Actinobacteria (13.6%), Acidobacteria (9.0%), and Planctomycetota (5.7%) in the desert. Proteobacteria (24.0-30.2%) had the highest relative abundance in rhizosphere, Actinobacteria (18.3-22.6%) had the highest relative abundance in nonrhizosphere, and Cyanobacteria had the highest relative abundance in endosphere. At the genus level, the relative abundance of Pseudomonas (1.2%) in the root endosphere was the highest and the other genera were mostly unclassified. The Chao1 and PD_whole_tree indices showed that the diversity of the bacterial communities decreased from nonrhizosphere, rhizosphere, root endosphere to stem endosphere. Co-occurrence network analyses identified Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria as key species across the three compartments. Additionally, unique keystone species like Cyanobacteria, Verrucomicrobiota, and Desulfobacterota were found only in the endosphere. The bacterial community in the rhizosphere was influenced by factors such as EC (electrical conductivity), STC (soil total carbon), SOM, SOC, STN (soil total nitrogen), SAN, STP (soil total phosphorus), and SAK, while that of the nonrhizosphere was mainly influenced by pH, C/N (STC/STN), SAP, and distance. The study highlighted differences in bacterial community composition, diversity, and influencing factors across the three compartments, which can provide a better understanding of the association/interactions between A. bifolium and bacterial communities and lay a foundation for revealing its adaptability in winter.

Abstract
The cold chain is an integral part of the modern food industry. Low temperatures can effectively alleviate food loss and the transmission of foodborne diseases caused by microbial reproduction. However, recent reports have highlighted shortcomings in the current cold chain technology's ability to prevent and control cold-tolerant foodborne pathogens. Furthermore, it has been observed that certain cold-chain foods have emerged as new sources of infection for foodborne disease outbreaks. Consequently, there is a pressing need to enhance control measures targeting cold-tolerant pathogens within the existing cold chain system. This paper aims to review the recent advancements in understanding the cold tolerance mechanisms of key model organisms, identify key issues in current research, and explore the potential of utilizing big data and omics technology in future studies.

Abstract
Cyclosporine A (CsA) is a model drug that has caused great concern due to its widespread use and abuse in the environment. However, the potential harm of CsA to organisms also remains largely unknown, and this issue is exceptionally important for the health risk assessment of antibiotics. To address this concern, the crosstalk between CsA stress and cellular metabolism at the proteomic level in Escherichia coli was investigated and dissected in this study. The results showed that CsA inhibited E. coli growth in a time-dependent manner. CsA induced reactive oxygen species (ROS) overproduction in a dose- and time-dependent manner, leading to membrane depolarization followed by cell apoptosis. In addition, translation, the citric acid cycle, amino acid biosynthesis, glycolysis and responses to oxidative stress and heat were the central metabolic pathways induced by CsA stress. The upregulated proteins, including PotD, PotF and PotG, controlled cell growth. The downregulated proteins, including SspA, SspB, CstA and DpS, were regulators of self-feedback during the starvation process. And the up- and downregulated proteins, including AtpD, Adk, GroS, GroL and DnaK, controlled energy production. These results provide an important reference for the environmental health risk assessment of CsA.

Abstract
Rhizosphere microbiome assembly is essential for plant health, but the temporal dimension of this process remains unexplored. We used a chronosequence of 150 years of the retreating Hallstätter glacier (Dachstein, Austria) to disentangle this exemplarily for the rhizosphere of three pioneer alpine plants. Time of deglaciation was an important factor shaping the rhizosphere microbiome. Microbiome functions, i.e. nutrient uptake and stress protection, were carried out by ubiquitous and cosmopolitan bacteria. The rhizosphere succession along the chronosequence was characterized by decreasing microbial richness but increasing specificity of the plant-associated bacterial community. Environmental selection is a critical factor in shaping the ecosystem, particularly in terms of plant-driven recruitment from the available edaphic pool. A higher rhizosphere microbial richness during early succession compared to late succession can be explained by the occurrence of cold-acclimated bacteria recruited from the surrounding soils. These taxa might be sensitive to changing habitat conditions that occurred at the later stages. A stronger influence of the plant host on the rhizosphere microbiome assembly was observed with increased time since deglaciation. Overall, this study indicated that well-adapted, ubiquitous microbes potentially support pioneer plants to colonize new ecosystems, while plant-specific microbes may be associated with the long-term establishment of their hosts.

Abstract
Cold environments are more frequent than people think. They include deep oceans, cold lakes, snow, permafrost, sea ice, glaciers, cold soils, cold deserts, caves, areas at elevations greater than 3000 m, and also artificial refrigeration systems. These environments are inhabited by a diversity of eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms that must adapt to the hard conditions imposed by cold. This adaptation is multifactorial and includes (i) sensing the cold, mainly through the modification of the liquid-crystalline membrane state, leading to the activation of a two-component system that transduce the signal; (ii) adapting the composition of membranes for proper functions mainly due to the production of double bonds in lipids, changes in hopanoid composition, and the inclusion of pigments; (iii) producing cold-adapted proteins, some of which show modifications in the composition of amino acids involved in stabilizing interactions and structural adaptations, e.g., enzymes with high catalytic efficiency; and (iv) producing ice-binding proteins and anti-freeze proteins, extracellular polysaccharides and compatible solutes that protect cells from intracellular and extracellular ice. However, organisms also respond by reprogramming their metabolism and specifically inducing cold-shock and cold-adaptation genes through strategies such as DNA supercoiling, distinctive signatures in promoter regions and/or the action of CSPs on mRNAs, among others. In this review, we describe the main findings about how organisms adapt to cold, with a focus in prokaryotes and linking the information with findings in eukaryotes.

Abstract
Bacterial adaptation to cold stress requires wide transcriptional reprogramming. However, the knowledge of molecular mechanisms underlying the cold stress response of mycobacteria is limited. We conducted comparative transcriptomic analysis of Mycobacterium smegmatis subjected to cold shock. The growth of M. smegmatis cultivated at 37 °C was arrested just after exposure to cold (acclimation phase) but later (by 24 h) was resumed at a much slower rate (adaptation phase). Transcriptomic analyses revealed distinct gene expression patterns corresponding to the two phases. During the acclimation phase, differential expression was observed for genes associated with cell wall remodeling, starvation response, and osmotic pressure stress, in parallel with global changes in the expression of transcription factors and the downregulation of ribosomal genes, suggesting an energy-saving strategy to support survival. At the adaptation phase, the expression profiles were recovered, indicating restoration of the processes repressed earlier. Comparison of transcriptional responses in M. smegmatis with those in other bacteria revealed unique adaptation strategies developed by mycobacteria. Our findings shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying M. smegmatis survival under cold stress. Further research should clarify whether the discovered transcriptional mechanisms exist in other mycobacterial species, including pathogenic Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which could be important for transmission control.

Abstract
The cold adapted microorganisms, psychrophiles/psychrotolerants, go through several modifications at cellular and biochemical levels to alleviate the influence of low temperature stress conditions. The low temperature environments depend on these cold adapted microorganisms for various ecological processes. The ability of the microorganisms to function in cold environments depends on the strategies directly associated with cell metabolism, physicochemical constrains, and stress factors. Pseudomonas is one among such group of microorganisms which is predominant in cold environments with a wide range of ecological and biotechnological applications. Bioformulations of Pseudomonas spp., possessing plant growth promotion and biocontrol abilities for application under low temperature environments, are well documented. Further, recent advances in high throughput sequencing provide essential information regarding the prevalence of Pseudomonas in rhizospheres and their role in plant health. Cold adapted species of Pseudomonas are also getting recognition for their potential in biodegradation and bioremediation of environmental contaminants. Production of enzymes and bioactive compounds (primarily as an adaptation mechanism) gives way to their applications in various industries. Exopolysaccharides and various biotechnologically important enzymes, produced by cold adapted species of Pseudomonas, are making their way in food, textiles, and pharmaceuticals. The present review, therefore, aims to summarize the functional versatility of Pseudomonas with particular reference to its peculiarities along with the ecological and biotechnological applications.

Abstract
Hydrocarbon spills in cold climates are a prominent and enduring form of anthropogenic contamination. Bioremediation is one of a suite of remediation tools that has emerged as a cost-effective strategy for transforming these contaminants in soil, ideally into less harmful products. However, little is understood about the molecular mechanisms driving these complex, microbially mediated processes. The emergence of -omic technologies has led to a revolution within the sphere of environmental microbiology allowing for the identification and study of so called 'unculturable' organisms. In the last decade, -omic technologies have emerged as a powerful tool in filling this gap in our knowledge on the interactions between these organisms and their environment in vivo. Here, we utilize the text mining software Vosviewer to process meta-data and visualize key trends relating to cold climate bioremediation projects. The results of text mining of the literature revealed a shift over time from optimizing bioremediation experiments on the macro/community level to, in more recent years focusing on individual organisms of interest, interactions within the microbiome and the investigation of novel metabolic degradation pathways. This shift in research focus was made possible in large part by the rise of omics studies allowing research to focus not only what organisms/metabolic pathways are present but those which are functional. However, all is not harmonious, as the development of downstream analytical methods and associated processing tools have outpaced sample preparation methods, especially when dealing with the unique challenges posed when analyzing soil-based samples.

Abstract
Conventional biological treatment usually cannot achieve the same high water quality as advanced treatment when conducted under varied temperatures. Here, satisfactory wastewater treatment efficiency was observed in a microalgae-bacteria consortia (MBC) over a wide temperature range because of the predominance of microalgae. Microalgae contributed more toward wastewater treatment at low temperature because of the unsatisfactory performance of the accompanying bacteria, which experienced cold stress (e.g., bacterial abundance below 3000 sequences) and executed defensive strategies (e.g., enrichment of cold-shock proteins). A low abundance of amoA-C and hao indicated that conventional nitrogen removal was replaced through the involvement of microalgae. Diverse heterotrophic bacteria for nitrogen removal were identified at medium and high temperatures, implying this microbial niche treatment contained diverse flexible consortia with temperature variation. Additionally, pathogenic bacteria were eliminated through microalgal photosynthesis. After fitting the neutral community model and calculating the ecological niche, microalgae achieved a maximum niche breadth of 5.21 and the lowest niche overlap of 0.38, while the accompanying bacterial community in the consortia were shaped through deterministic processes. Finally, the maximum energy yield of 87.4 kJ L-1 and lipid production of 1.9 g L-1 were achieved at medium temperature. Altogether, this study demonstrates that advanced treatment and energy reclamation can be achieved through microalgae-bacteria niche strategies.

Abstract
Low temperature and acidic environments encompass natural milieus such as acid rock drainage in Antarctica and anthropogenic sites including drained sulfidic sediments in Scandinavia. The microorganisms inhabiting these environments include polyextremophiles that are both extreme acidophiles (defined as having an optimum growth pH < 3), and eurypsychrophiles that grow at low temperatures down to approximately 4°C but have an optimum temperature for growth above 15°C. Eurypsychrophilic acidophiles have important roles in natural biogeochemical cycling on earth and potentially on other planetary bodies and moons along with biotechnological applications in, for instance, low-temperature metal dissolution from metal sulfides. Five low-temperature acidophiles are characterized, namely, Acidithiobacillus ferriphilus, Acidithiobacillus ferrivorans, Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, “Ferrovum myxofaciens,” and Alicyclobacillus disulfidooxidans, and their characteristics are reviewed. Our understanding of characterized and environmental eurypsychrophilic acidophiles has been accelerated by the application of “omics” techniques that have aided in revealing adaptations to low pH and temperature that can be synergistic, while other adaptations are potentially antagonistic. The lack of known acidophiles that exclusively grow below 15°C may be due to the antagonistic nature of adaptations in this polyextremophile. In conclusion, this review summarizes the knowledge of eurypsychrophilic acidophiles and places the information in evolutionary, environmental, biotechnological, and exobiology perspectives.

Abstract
Pseudomonas is widespread in various environmental and host niches. To promote rejuvenation, cellular protein homeostasis must be finely tuned in response to diverse stresses, such as extremely high and low temperatures, oxidative stress, and desiccation, which can result in protein homeostasis imbalance. Molecular chaperones function as key components that aid protein folding and prevent protein denaturation. Pseudomonas, an ecologically important bacterial genus, includes human and plant pathogens as well as growth-promoting symbionts and species useful for bioremediation. In this review, we focus on protein quality control systems, particularly molecular chaperones, in ecologically diverse species of Pseudomonas, including the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the plant pathogen Pseudomonas syringae, the soil species Pseudomonas putida, and the psychrophilic Pseudomonas antarctica.

Abstract
The Himalayas are one of the most mystical, yet least studied terrains of the world. One of Earth's greatest multifaceted and diverse montane ecosystems is also one of the thirty-four global biodiversity hotspots of the world. These are supposed to have been uplifted about 60-70 million years ago and support, distinct environments, physiography, a variety of orogeny, and great biological diversity (plants, animals, and microbes). Microbes are the pioneer colonizer of the Himalayas that are involved in various bio-geological cycles and play various significant roles. The applications of Himalayan microbiomes inhabiting in lesser to greater Himalayas have been recognized. The researchers explored the applications of indigenous microbiomes in both agricultural and environmental sectors. In agriculture, microbiomes from Himalayan regions have been suggested as better biofertilizers and biopesticides for the crops growing at low temperature and mountainous areas as they help in the alleviation of cold stress and other biotic stresses. Along with alleviation of low temperature, Himalayan microbes also have the capability to enhance plant growth by availing the soluble form of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and iron. These microbes have been recognized for producing plant growth regulators (abscisic acid, auxin, cytokinin, ethylene, and gibberellins). These microbes have been reported for bioremediating the diverse pollutants (pesticides, heavy metals, and xenobiotics) for environmental sustainability. In the current perspectives, present review provides a detailed discussion on the ecology, biodiversity, and adaptive features of the native Himalayan microbiomes in view to achieve agro-environmental sustainability.

Abstract
The bioleaching process is carried out by aerobic acidophilic iron-oxidizing bacteria that are mainly mesophilic or moderately thermophilic. However, many mining sites are located in areas where the mean temperature is lower than the optimal growth temperature of these microorganisms. In this work, we report the obtaining and characterization of two psychrotolerant bioleaching bacterial strains from low-temperature sites that included an abandoned mine site in Chilean Patagonia (PG05) and an acid rock drainage in Marian Cove, King George Island in Antarctic (MC2.2). The PG05 and MC2.2 strains showed significant iron-oxidation activity and grew optimally at 20°C. Genome sequence analyses showed chromosomes of 2.76 and 2.84 Mbp for PG05 and MC2.2, respectively, and an average nucleotide identity estimation indicated that both strains clustered with the acidophilic iron-oxidizing bacterium Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The Patagonian PG05 strain had a high content of genes coding for tolerance to metals such as lead, zinc, and copper. Concordantly, electron microscopy revealed the intracellular presence of polyphosphate-like granules, likely involved in tolerance to metals and other stress conditions. The Antarctic MC2.2 strain showed a high dosage of genes for mercury resistance and low temperature adaptation. This report of cold-adapted cultures of the At. ferrooxidans species opens novel perspectives to satisfy the current challenges of the metal bioleaching industry.

Abstract
Acinetobacter johnsonii is one of the major food-spoilage bacteria and can survive under cold stress. In this study, the membrane composition, membrane permeability, and energy transduction of A. johnsonii XY27 cultured at 4 and 30 °C were examined comparatively by flow cytometry combined with liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The Na+/K+ATPase activity, alkaline phosphatase and ATPase activity, fluorescence intensity, and cell viability in A. johnsonii XY27 increased with the decrease in cultivation temperature. The polyunsaturated fatty acid and monounsaturated fatty acids have a higher content in A. johnsonii XY27 cultured at 4 °C compared to that cultured at 30 °C, in which the contents of methyl palmitoleate, methyl myristoleate, and methyl oleate increased dramatically with decreasing temperature. Comparative proteomics analysis revealed that 31 proteins were downregulated and 4 proteins were upregulated, in which catalase-peroxidase 1 and cold shock proteins as biomarker proteins could effectively control A. johnsonii during cold adaptation.

Abstract
Enzymes purified from psychrophilic microorganisms prove to be efficient catalysts at low temperatures and possess a great potential for biotechnological applications. The low-temperature catalytic activity has to come from specific structural fluctuations involving the active site region, however, the relationship between protein conformational stability and enzymatic activity is subtle. We provide a survey of the thermodynamic stability of globular proteins and their rationalization grounded in a theoretical approach devised by one of us. Furthermore, we provide a link between marginal conformational stability and protein flexibility grounded in the harmonic approximation of the vibrational degrees of freedom, emphasizing the occurrence of long-wavelength and excited vibrations in all globular proteins. Finally, we offer a close view of three enzymes: chloride-dependent α-amylase, citrate synthase, and β-galactosidase.

Abstract
An ecogenomic analysis of the methanogenic microbial community in a laboratory-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor treating soy sauce-processing wastewater revealed a synergistic metabolic network. Granular sludge samples were collected from the UASB reactor operated under psychrophilic (20°C) conditions with a COD removal rate >75%. A 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing-based microbial community analysis classified the major microbial taxa as Methanothrix, Methanobacterium, Pelotomaculaceae, Syntrophomonadaceae, Solidesulfovibrio, and members of the phyla Synergistota and Bacteroidota. Draft genomes of dominant microbial populations were recovered by metagenomic shotgun sequencing. Metagenomic- and metatranscriptomic-assisted metabolic reconstructions indicated that Synergistota- and Bacteroidota-related organisms play major roles in the degradation of amino acids. A metagenomic bin of the uncultured Bacteroidales 4484-276 clade encodes genes for proteins that may function in the catabolism of phenylalanine and tyrosine under microaerobic conditions. Syntrophomonadaceae and Pelotomaculaceae oxidize fatty acid byproducts presumably derived from the degradation of amino acids in syntrophic association with aceticlastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogen populations. Solidesulfovibrio organisms are responsible for the reduction of sulfite and may support the activity of hydrogenotrophic methanogens and other microbial populations by providing hydrogen and ammonia using nitrogen fixation-related proteins. Overall, functionally diverse anaerobic organisms unite to form a metabolic network that performs the complete degradation of amino acids in the psychrophilic methanogenic microbiota.

Abstract
During and after the green revolution in the last century, agrochemicals especially nitrogen (N) were extensively used. However, it resulted in a remarkable increase in crop yield but drastically reduced soil fertility; increased the production cost, food prices, and carbon footprints; and depleted the fossil reserves with huge penalties to the environment and ecological sustainability. The groundwater, rivers, and oceans are loaded with N excess which is an environmental catastrophe. Nitrogen emissions (e.g., ammonia, nitrogen oxide, nitrous oxide) play an important role in global climate change and contribute to particulate matter and acid rain causing respiratory problems, cancers, and damage to forests and buildings. Therefore, the nitrogen-polluted planet Earth needs concerted global efforts to avoid the disaster. Improved agricultural N management focuses on the synchronization of crop N demand and N supply along with improving the N-use efficiency of the crops. However, there is very little focus on the natural sources of N available for plants in the form of diazotrophic bacteria present inside or on the root surface and the rhizosphere. These diazotrophs are the mini-nitrogen factories that convert available (78%) atmospheric N2 to ammonia through a process known as "biological nitrogen fixation" which is then taken up by the plants for its metabolic functioning. Diazotrophs also stimulate root architecture by producing plant hormones and hence improve the plant's overall ability to uptake nutrients and water. In recent years, nanotechnology has revolutionized the whole agri-industry by introducing nano-fertilizers and coated/slow-releasing fertilizers. With this in mind, we tried to explore the following questions: To what extent can the crop N requirements be met by diazotroph inoculation? Can N input to agriculture be managed in a way leading to environmental benefits and farmers saving money? Can nanotechnology help in technological advancement of diazotroph application? The review suggests that an integrated technology based on slow-releasing nano-fertilizer combined with diazotrophs should be adopted to decrease nitrogen inputs to the agricultural system. This integrated technology would minimize N pollution and N losses to much extent.

Abstract
Members of the genus Pseudomonas are metabolically versatile and capable of adapting to a wide variety of environments. Stress physiology of Pseudomonas strains has been extensively studied because of their biotechnological potential in agriculture as well as their medical importance with regards to pathogenicity and antibiotic resistance. This versatility and scientific relevance led to a substantial amount of information regarding the stress response of a diverse set of species such as Pseudomonas chlororaphis, P. fluorescens, P. putida, P. aeruginosa, and P. syringae. In this review, environmental and industrial stressors including desiccation, heat, and cold stress, are cataloged along with their corresponding mechanisms of survival in Pseudomonas. Mechanisms of survival are grouped by the type of inducing stress with a focus on adaptations such as synthesis of protective substances, biofilm formation, entering a non-culturable state, enlisting chaperones, transcription and translation regulation, and altering membrane composition. The strategies Pseudomonas strains utilize for survival can be leveraged during the development of beneficial strains to increase viability and product efficacy.
