Abstract
In recent years (2021-2023), we have offered pharmacology subjects in 'StudyFlex' mode, allowing students to attend workshops either on-campus (blended) or online. This study aimed to investigate changes in student preference for mode of attendance, and whether attendance or mode of attendance was related to academic performance. We collected data from 559 students enrolled in an introductory pharmacology subject and examined preference for mode of study, workshop attendance and subject results. The only difference between the instances was the mode of delivery of weekly 2-h workshops; the same academics conducted all workshops for both cohorts, and all other learning materials were delivered online. Student preference for on-campus (blended) workshops in this subject increased over this period, while preference for online workshops decreased accordingly. Workshop attendance increased for the blended cohort but decreased for the online cohort in 2023 (Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA followed by Dunn's post-hoc test). Test marks and overall subject marks were highly correlated with workshop attendance, independent of attendance mode (non-parametric Spearman's correlation, all P < 0.05), but average marks were not different between the two cohorts in any semester (Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA followed by Dunn's post-hoc test). Despite a shift in preference for on-campus versus online workshops, the mode of workshop attendance had no significant effect on academic performance. Greater workshop attendance, independent of attendance mode, was correlated with improved academic performance. This analysis highlights the utility of online workshops, which were equally effective as blended classes in pharmacology teaching in this subject.

Abstract
Zoom fatigue may affect nursing students, as there has been an increase in the use of videoconferencing for academic as well as clinical applications. Fatigue can negatively interfere with clinical decision-making and lead to clinical errors. This study aimed to explore the association between Zoom fatigue and perceived clinical decision-making ability of nursing students. This cross-sectional study assessed self-reported sociodemographic characteristics, Zoom fatigue, and clinical decision-making. Nursing students reported a medium level of Zoom fatigue (2.50 ± 0.78) and moderate effects on clinical decision-making (150.924 ± 12.561). Statistically significant differences were found between Zoom fatigue, the number of videoconferences held in the last month ( rs = 0.065, P = .030), prolonged use of electronic devices ( χ23 = 12.817, P = .005), and sex of the participants ( U = 4043.500, P = .046). In addition, a negative relationship was observed between Zoom fatigue and clinical decision-making ( rs = -0.519, P < .001). Nursing students have shown a moderate level of Zoom fatigue. The number of videoconferences attended as well as the prolonged use of electronic devices could increase students' level of Zoom fatigue. Students' perception of their clinical decision-making is moderate. As the Zoom fatigue levels of nursing students increased, their perception of clinical decision-making ability decreased. In the academic and clinical settings, there is a need to develop strategies to prevent Zoom fatigue in nursing students and improve the quality of care provided to patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Online meetings have become an integral part of daily life for many people. However, prolonged periods of sitting still in front of screens can lead to significant, long-term health risks. While previous studies have explored various interventions to address sedentary lifestyles, few have specifically focused on mitigating sedentary behavior during online meetings. Furthermore, design opportunities to address this issue in the context of online meetings remain underexplored. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the design of effective antisedentary interactions for online meeting scenarios and understand user experiences with gamified bodily interactions as an antisedentary measure during online meetings. METHODS This study adopts a "research through design" approach to develop and explore user experiences of gamified bodily interactions as interventions to mitigate sedentary behavior during online meetings. In collaboration with 11 users, we co-designed and iterated 3 prototypes, which led to the development of the Bodily Interaction Gamification towards Anti-sedentary Online Meeting Environments (BIG-AOME) framework. Using these prototypes, we conducted user studies with 3 groups totaling 15 participants. During co-design and evaluation, all group semistructured interviews were transcribed into written format and analyzed using a conventional qualitative content analysis method. RESULTS The findings demonstrate that gamified bodily interactions encourage users to engage in physical movement while reducing the awkwardness of doing so during online meetings. Seamless integration with meeting software and the inclusion of long-term reward mechanisms can further contribute to sustained use. In addition, such games can serve as online icebreakers or playful tools for decision-making. Drawing from 3 design prototypes, this study offers a comprehensive analysis of each design dimension within the BIG-AOME framework: bodily engagement, attention, bodily interplay, timeliness, and virtual and physical environments. CONCLUSIONS Our research findings indicate that antisedentary bodily interactions designed for online meetings have the potential to mitigate sedentary behaviors while enhancing social connections. Furthermore, the BIG-AOME framework that we propose explores the design space for antisedentary physical interactions in the context of online meetings, detailing pertinent design choices and considerations.

Abstract
Friendliness is essential for the development of stable interpersonal relationships. Video communication is growing rapidly in popularity for initiating and maintaining personal relationships, but it is unknown if video communication is as effective as face-to-face communication for promoting friendliness. This study compared the development of subjective friendliness between video and face-to-face communication sessions and investigated the associated neural correlates. Thirty healthy same-sex pairs were recruited and randomly assigned to face-to-face (Face) and video communication (Video) groups. Both groups performed three communication conditions face-to-face or via the Zoom platform in separate rooms: singing a song alone, singing a song with the other pair, and listening to the other pair sing a song. Activities of the bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and medial prefrontal cortex (MPFC) were measured during the condition by functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), and subjective friendliness was assessed before and after each condition using the Profile of Mood States 2nd Edition (POMS-F). After each condition, the change in POMS-F score (∆POMS-F) was compared between groups, and correlations were calculated with regional brain activity measures. Face group showed an increase in all conditions in ∆POMS-F, and Video group showed in average a decrease, which results in significant group difference in ∆POMS-F. The Face group showed a significant positive correlation between right DLPFC activity and increase in ∆POMS-F, whereas the Video group showed marginal significant negative correlation. Additionally, left DLPFC activity was significantly higher and MPFC activity was significantly lower in the Video group than in the Face group during all conditions. These findings suggest that subjective feelings of friendliness may be limited during video communication due to a requirement for greater cognitive effort.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic required psychologists and other mental health professionals to use videoconferencing platforms. Previous research has highlighted therapists' hesitation toward adopting the medium since they find it hard to establish control over videoconferencing psychotherapy (VCP). An earlier study provided a set of potential features that may help enhance psychologists' control in their videoconference sessions, such as screen control functionality, emergency call functionality, eye contact functionality, zooming in and out functionality, and an interactive interface with other apps and software. OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate whether introducing technical features might improve clinicians' control over their video sessions. Additionally, it seeks to understand the role of the video in therapists' VCP experience from a technical and relationship point of view. METHODS A total of 121 mental health professionals responded to the survey, but only 86 participants provided complete data. Exploratory Factor Analysis was used to scrutinize the data collected. A total of three factors were identified: (1) "challenges in providing VCP," (2) "features to enhance the therapeutic relationship," and (3) "enhancing control." Path analysis was used to observe the relationship between factors on their own and with adjustment to participants' areas of expertise and year in practice. RESULTS This study highlighted a relationship between the three identified factors. It was found that introducing certain features reduced therapists' challenges in the provision of VCP. Moreover, the additional features provided therapists with enhanced control over their VCP sessions. A path analysis was conducted to investigate the relationships between the factors loaded. The results of the analysis revealed a significant relationship between "challenges in VCP" and "features to enhance the therapeutic relationship" (adjusted beta [Adjβ]=-0.54, 95% CI 0.29-0.79; P<.001) and "features to enhance TR" and "enhancing control" (Adjβ=0.25, 95% CI 0.15-0.35; P<.001). Additionally, a significant positive relationship was found between "features to enhance the therapeutic relationship" and "enhancing control" (Adjβ=0.25, 95% CI 0.15-0.35; P<.001). Furthermore, there was an indirect effect of "challenges in providing VCP" on "enhancing control" (Adjβ=0.13, 95% CI 0.05-0.22; P=.001) mediated by "features to enhance TR." The analysis identified the factor "features to enhance TR" (effect size=0.25) as key for improving clinicians' performance and control. CONCLUSIONS This study demonstrates that technology may help improve therapists' VCP experiences by implementing features that respond to their need for enhanced control. By augmenting therapists' control, clinicians can effectively serve their patients and facilitate successful therapy outcomes. Moreover, this study confirms the video as a third agent that prevents therapists from affecting clients' reality due to technical and relational limits. Additionally, this study supports the general system theory, which allowed for the incorporation of video in our exploration and helped explain its agency in VCP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Corporate wellness programs are increasingly using digital technologies to promote employee health. Digital wellness programs (DWPs) refer to initiatives that deliver health interventions through digital tools. Despite a growing body of evidence on DWPs, the literature remains fragmented across multiple health domains. OBJECTIVE This study aims to provide a comprehensive synthesis of existing research on the efficacy (eg, impact on employee's physical health, mental well-being, behavioral changes, and absenteeism) and acceptability (eg, engagement, perceived usefulness, and adoption) of employer-provided DWPs. Specifically, we aim to map the extent, range, and nature of research on this topic; summarize key findings; identify gaps; and facilitate knowledge dissemination. METHODS We conducted a meta-review of studies published between 2000 and 2023. We adopted a database-driven search approach, including the MEDLINE, PsycINFO, ProQuest Central, and Web of Science Core Collection databases. The inclusion criteria consisted of (1) review articles; (2) publications in English, French, or German; (3) studies reporting on digital health interventions implemented in organizations; (4) studies reporting on nonclinical or preclinical employee populations; and (5) studies assessing the efficacy and acceptability of employer-provided DWPs. We performed a descriptive numerical summary and thematic analysis of the included studies. RESULTS Out of 593 nonduplicate studies screened, 29 met the inclusion criteria. The most investigated health domains included mental health (n=19), physical activity (n=8), weight management (n=6), unhealthy behavior change (n=4), and sleep management (n=2). In total, 24 reviews focused on the efficacy of DWPs, primarily in relation to health-related outcomes (eg, stress and weight), while fewer reviews addressed organization-related outcomes (eg, burnout and absenteeism). Four reviews explored the mechanisms of action, and 3 assessed the acceptability of DWPs using various measures. Overall, the findings support the efficacy and acceptability of DWPs, although significant gaps persist, particularly regarding the durability of outcomes, the role of technology, and the causal mechanisms underlying behavioral change. CONCLUSIONS While DWPs show promise across a variety of health domains, several aspects of their effectiveness remain underexplored. Practitioners should capitalize on existing evidence of successful DWPs while acknowledging the limitations in the literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As the Internet of Things (IoT) expands, it enables new forms of communication, including interactions mediated by teleoperated robots like avatars. While extensive research exists on the effects of these devices on communication partners, there is limited research on the impact on the operators themselves. This study aimed to objectively assess the psychological and physiological effects of operating a teleoperated robot, specifically Telenoid, on its human operator. METHODS Twelve healthy participants (2 women and 10 men, aged 18-23 years) were recruited from Osaka University. Participants engaged in two communication sessions with a first-time partner: face-to-face and Telenoid-mediated. Telenoid is a minimalist humanoid robot teleoperated by a participant. Blood samples were collected before and after each session to measure hormonal and oxidative markers, including cortisol, diacron reactive oxygen metabolites (d-ROMs), and the biological antioxidat activity of plasma (BAP). Psychological stress was assessed using validated questionnaires (POMS-2, HADS, and SRS-18). RESULTS A trend of a decrease in cortisol levels was observed during Telenoid-mediated communication, whereas face-to-face interactions showed no significant changes. Oxidative stress, measured by d-ROMs, significantly increased after face-to-face interactions but not in Telenoid-mediated sessions. Significant correlations were found between oxytocin and d-ROMs and psychological stress scores, particularly in terms of helplessness and total stress measures. However, no significant changes were observed in other biomarkers or between the two conditions for most psychological measures. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest that cortisol and d-ROMs may serve as objective biomarkers for assessing psychophysiological stress during robot-mediated communication. Telenoid's minimalist design may help reduce social pressures and mitigate stress compared to face-to-face interactions. Further research with larger, more diverse samples and longitudinal designs is needed to validate these findings and explore the broader impacts of teleoperated robots.

Background Online platforms have gained considerable support from students and lecturers post COVID-19, however they are associated with student exhaustion and fatigue. Aim To determine Zoom exhaustion and fatigue in nursing students at a selected university in South Africa. Methods A quantitative cross - sectional study was conducted in KwaZulu-Natal to collect data from 146 nursing students registered at the selected university for the 4-year Bachelor of Nursing programme. The Zoom Exhaustion and Fatigue Scale collected data on responses to domains of general fatigue, visual fatigue, social fatigue, motivational fatigue, and emotional fatigue. The data were analysed using the International Business Machines, Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 26.0. Descriptive statistics were calculated for demographics, a total score was calculated and mean scores and 95% confidence intervals for the different domains were calculated. Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis Independent Tests were calculated to determine associations between demographics and Zoom usage. Results The overall Zoom exhaustion and fatigue score was 46.71 (s.d. = 10.50). The motivational fatigue construct had the highest mean score of 3.29 (s.d. = 0.83), followed by general (3.18 s.d. = 0.81), social (3.11, s.d. = 0.88), emotional (3.06, s.d. = 0.99) and visual fatigue (2.92, s.d. = 0.94). Conclusion The study concluded that while the overall mean score indicated moderate levels of Zoom exhaustion and fatigue among respondents, majority of the respondents scored high levels (> 48) of Zoom fatigue. Students reported higher levels of motivational fatigue compared to the other 4 constructs.

Abstract
Purpose The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a shift to working and learning from home and a concomitant rise in the use of virtual communication technology, such as videoconferencing. The current study prospectively examined the association between videoconferencing and sleep in a sample of young adults attending a university during the pandemic. The effects of videoconferencing on health and wellness outcomes and academic performance were also evaluated. Patients and Methods Participants completed the core Consensus Sleep Diary and reported engagement in videoconferencing, the use of electronic devices, and physical activity daily for 8 consecutive days. They also completed baseline measures of sleep, communication technology use, physical activity, and mental distress, as well as released their end-of-term GPA. Results were evaluated via multilevel modeling and path analysis. Results Participants with a heavier videocall volume lost 17 m of sleep and suffered nearly a 1% reduction in sleep efficiency for each additional hour of videoconferencing compared to those with a lower call volume. They also tended to spend more time awake during the night, have earlier sleep midpoints, and report worse sleep, although those trends did not reach statistical significance. For everyone, including individuals with lower videocall volume, earlier sleep midpoints, lower sleep quality, somewhat shorter sleep, and higher fatigue were reported on days with a relatively high videocall load compared to days with a low videocall load. Increased academic engagement with videoconferencing predicted lower academic performance and higher psychological distress: Both relationships were mediated by sleep. Use of videoconferencing for personal reasons, however, was directly associated with a reduction in distress. Conclusion Videoconferencing is an important determinant of sleep and may impact health and wellness as well as academic outcomes in young adults. The effects of virtual communication on sleep and human behavior warrant further study in this and other populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID-19 had a tremendous impact on surgical residency education and training. With little experience or training in using online learning in pedagogically informed ways, some surgical educators and learners experienced the disadvantages of online learning which may have contributed to a greater sense of burnout in the pandemic. The purpose of this study is to survey the level of burnout in surgical educators and assess educators' perspectives on factors that increased or decreased burnout in synchronous online teaching during the pandemic. METHODS A cross-sectional study consisting of 4 sections was sent to surgical educators at the University of Toronto. Demographic data, validated surveys on burnout and videoconferencing fatigue (the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey (MBI-ES) and the Zoom Exhaustion and Fatigue (ZEF) scale respectively), and quantitative questions about teaching factors in synchronous online environments were collected and analyzed. RESULTS The MBI-ES demonstrated a high degree of emotional exhaustion, and depersonalization and a moderate degree of personal accomplishment in surgeon educators. The ZEF scale noted moderate fatigue across all domains. Although educators noted online learning to be a moderate factor contributing to burnout during the pandemic, there was no correlation between the number of hours or percentage of time teaching online to burnout or zoom fatigue scores. The largest reported contributing factor to online learning leading to burnout was lack of connection to learners, whereas the largest mitigating factor was decreased travel time. INTERPRETATIONS The study found a moderate degree of exhaustion and burnout among surgical educators in Canada during COVID-19 and examined how aspects of online synchronous learning may have contributed to or helped mitigate these experiences. Based on this, we present approaches and educational theories to improve the online learning experience for surgical educators going forward.

Abstract
The popularity of remote working in recent years has led to a rise in the use of videoconferencing tools. However, these communication tools have also given rise to a phenomenon known as videoconference fatigue (VF). Using the limited capacity model of motivated mediated message processing and impression management theory as the theoretical framework, this study explores how different types and content of virtual backgrounds in videoconferencing influence people's VF and well-being. A survey of 610 users of videoconferencing tools revealed significant variations in the content and type of virtual backgrounds used during videoconferences. Our findings highlight three main points: first, there is a significant relationship between the use of virtual backgrounds and VF; second, pairwise comparisons showed that the type of virtual background significantly influences the amount of VF experienced by users; third, the content of virtual backgrounds also significantly impacts the level of VF experienced by users. These results suggest that careful selection of virtual backgrounds can mitigate VF and improve user well-being. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract
Background Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the learning pattern of medical students shifted from onsite to online. This transition may contribute to what has been called "Zoom fatigue." This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of Zoom fatigue related to online learning, identify associated factors of Zoom fatigue, and explore its correlation with depression among medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted among 1st to 6th-year Thai medical students. The online survey was administered using a demographic and health behavior questionnaire, the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and the Thai version of the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue Scale (ZEF-T). Results Among the 386 participating students, 221 (57%) were female, with a mean age of 20.6 years. The prevalence of high Zoom fatigue was 9.6%. In the multivariable regression analysis, a lower academic year and a higher number of online learning sessions were significant predictors of Zoom fatigue (p < 0.001), while regular exercise emerged as a protective factor (p = 0.009). The prevalence of depressive disorder was 61.9%, and a significant correlation was found between having a depressive disorder and experiencing Zoom fatigue (p = 0.004). Conclusion Zoom fatigue among medical students was correlated with depression. Consequently, medical students experiencing Zoom fatigue should undergo further assessment for depression. It is crucial to closely monitor medical students in lower academic years with a high number of online sessions for signs of Zoom fatigue. Additionally, implementing strategies, such as reducing the frequency of online sessions and promoting regular exercise, may help alleviate the symptoms.

Abstract
Virtual meetings are widespread in organizations despite being perceived as fatiguing; a phenomenon also known as Zoom fatigue. Research suggests that Zoom fatigue is stronger when the camera is on, potentially influencing individuals to conform to majority opinions during professional online meetings. Two preregistered studies were conducted to explore the relationships between camera use, Zoom fatigue, social presence, and conformity. Study 1 involved 287 participants describing a professional online meeting in terms of the content discussed as well as the study variables. Study 2 involved 64 participants in an experimentally manipulated online meeting (camera on vs. off), focusing on a personnel selection task. We measured how many times participants changed their answers to match the majority and how this was related to Zoom fatigue and self-reported conformity. Results from both studies indicated that camera use was not related to either conformity or Zoom fatigue. Despite not finding the presumed mediation effect, the studies showed a clear link between fatigue and conformity. The results explain the emergence of conformity in online meetings and provide practical information for the design of video conferences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To optimize cost effectiveness, engagement, reach, inclusivity, insight quality and quantity, and participant satisfaction of pharmaceutical meetings such as advisory boards, the organizers have to carefully weigh the pros and cons of the available meeting formats (in-person, synchronous virtual, asynchronous, hybrid). While budgets and organizer preferences are typically key considerations, participants' preferences are rarely factored into this decision. Hence, the objectives of this study were to gain a better understanding of participants' preferences for meeting format, frequency, and updates. METHODS Between September 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023, health care providers (HCPs) participating in asynchronous advisory board touchpoints on a proprietary virtual platform were asked to answer between 1-4 survey questions, selected at the pharmaceutical organizers' discretion. RESULTS A total of 443 HCPs answered the survey. Among respondents, 76.0% preferred meetings with a virtual component. Overall, the most popular meeting approach was a combination of synchronous and asynchronous virtual meetings over time (34.6%). The preference for hybrid meetings increased from 14.3 to 27.3% between 2022 and 2023. The preferred meeting frequency was 2-3 times a year (39.2%), followed by quarterly (33.2%). According to the respondents, the most important benefits of virtual over in-person meetings include: (i) superior convenience and flexibility (81.0%), (ii) avoidance of time off work and away from patients (62.3%), (iii) the low environmental impact and carbon footprint (32.5%). CONCLUSIONS Although these findings are preliminary and from a small dataset, they highlight the importance of customizing each pharmaceutical meeting or program with the target audience in mind.

Abstract
Objective: To examine burnout and perspectives on videoconferencing over time for the mental health workforce. Methods: Members of an academic psychiatry department completed two anonymous surveys about virtual work and burnout 18 months apart (T1n = 274, response rate = 66.8%; T2n = 227, response rate = 36.7%). A subset completed the burnout subscale of the Stanford Professional Fulfillment Index (T1n = 145; T2n = 127). Results: Respondents were well satisfied with videoconferencing at both time points and satisfaction was higher at T2. Videoconferencing was not perceived to contribute to feelings of fatigue at either time point and burnout levels decreased from T1 to T2. Conclusions: Videoconferencing is well received by the mental health workforce and is not widely perceived to contribute to feelings of fatigue. Longer use of videoconferencing coincided with decreased levels of burnout. There are likely benefits to virtual work for the mental health workforce and virtual work may be protective from burnout.

Abstract
Developing robust professional networks can help shape the trajectories of early career scientists. Yet, historical inequities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields make access to these networks highly variable across academic programmes, and senior academics often have little time for mentoring. Here, we illustrate the success of a virtual Laboratory Meeting Programme (LaMP). In this programme, we matched students (mentees) with a more experienced scientist (mentors) from a research group. The mentees then attended the mentors' laboratory meetings during the academic year with two laboratory meetings specifically dedicated to the mentee's professional development. Survey results indicate that mentees expanded their knowledge of the hidden curriculum as well as their professional network, while only requiring a few extra hours of their mentor's time over eight months. In addition, host laboratories benefitted from mentees sharing new perspectives and knowledge in laboratory meetings. Diversity of the mentees was significantly higher than the mentors, suggesting that the programme increased the participation of traditionally under-represented groups. Finally, we found that providing a stipend was very important to many mentees. We conclude that virtual LaMPs can be an inclusive and cost-effective way to foster trainee development and increase diversity within STEM fields with little additional time commitment.

OBJECTIVES To examine correlates of the changes in technology use among older adults and the associations of depression/anxiety symptoms with technology use changes. METHODS We used the 2019-2021 U.S. National Health and Aging Trends Study (N = 3,063; age 70+). We fitted multinomial logistic regression models to examine: (1) correlates of never use and discontinued use versus use of email/texting and the internet during the 3-year study period; and (2) associations of past-month depression/anxiety symptoms in 2021 with use and discontinued use versus never use of email/texting and social network site (SNS). RESULTS The findings show age, socioeconomic, and health barriers to technology use. Email/texting and SNS use in 2021, compared to never use in all 3 years, was associated with a lower likelihood of moderate/severe depression/anxiety symptoms in 2021 (RRR = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.37-0.81 for email/texting use; RRR = 0.56, 95% CI = 0.33-0.97 for SNS use). Video calls with family/friends were not associated with depression/anxiety symptoms. CONCLUSIONS The findings expand the existing knowledge base regarding potential impact of technology use on mental health beyond the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS More concerted efforts are warranted to help older adults' technology uptake and continued use and to promote mental health benefits of technology use.

Abstract
There are unique challenges that arise from participating in remote clinical trials. Broadly, findings suggest that participants enrolled in digital intervention trials are more likely to disengage or prematurely dropout than participants in face-to-face trials. Thus, optimizing contact with participants via video-conferencing platforms to build rapport and encourage commitment to the study is critical. Still, challenges with video-conferencing visits can pose challenges. Some of these challenges include a lack of clarity about study requirements, difficulties demonstrating staff engagement and building rapport, and the technical challenges of using video-conferencing software. These challenges can affect participant retention, study validity, and the willingness of underserved groups to participate in research. In the context of a remote randomized clinical trial evaluating a digital intervention for prenatal insomnia, we discuss strategies used to counteract these challenges, including the use of virtual orientation sessions, and practical recommendations to improve staff engagement with participants. These findings are relevant to research teams conducting remote clinical trials, especially those seeking to recruit and retain participants from populations currently and historically underrepresented in research.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study is to examine how care workers' characteristics are related to the perceived benefits and drawbacks of using videoconferencing in the care of older people. The factors chosen for this study are: age, education, perceived information and communication technology (ICT) support, interest in technology, ICT skills and possible prior experience of using videoconferencing tools. Methods Our data source was the second wave (2021) of the University of Jyväskylä survey on elder care work (N = 3607), collected from four large trade unions in Finland. We used a multinomial logistic regression to group respondents according to their experiences of technology use and a path analysis to estimate the effects of care workers' characteristics and prior experiences on the perceived benefits of videoconferencing tools in eldercare work. Results We found that the personal characteristics of a care worker are associated with both the use of videoconferencing and its perceived benefits and drawbacks. In addition, we discovered that prior use of videoconferencing tools, especially in direct care work, affects the perceived benefits of them. Those who have used videoconferencing in direct care work perceive them as more beneficial for both their own work and for clients. Conclusions Based on these results, we suggest that healthcare and social welfare organizations pay attention to the characteristics of care workers, especially when estimating the necessary amount of ICT support. More ICT support should be targeted to those with a lower level of education and higher age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasingly researchers are partnering with citizens and communities in research; less is known about research impacts of this engagement. EMBOLDEN is an evidence-informed, mobility-promoting intervention for older adults co-designed by a 26-person Strategic Guiding Council (SGC) of health/social service providers and older adult citizens. This study evaluated research partners' perceptions of engagement strategies, the engagement context, strengths, areas for improvement, as well as the impacts of the guiding council on older-adult identified priority areas. METHODS This study was guided by developmental evaluation, working in partnership with four older adult SGC members who helped to set evaluation priorities, decide methods, and adapt patient-centred evaluation tools. Data sources included a questionnaire, focus groups and document analysis of meeting notes from 16 SGC meetings that took place between December 2019 and February 2022. A thematic approach to analysis guided the coding of focus group transcripts and SGC meeting notes. Convergent mixed methods guided the integration and presentation of qualitative and quantitative data sources in a joint display of evaluation results. RESULTS Of 26 SGC members, nine completed the evaluation squestionnaire, and five participated in focus groups. Around two thirds of the SGC commonly attended each meeting. EMBOLDEN's SGC was structured to include a diverse group (across gender, ethnicity and discipline) of older adults and service providers, which was perceived as a strength. Engagement processes were perceived as inclusive and well-facilitated, which stimulated discussion at meetings. Advantages and disadvantages of engaging with the SGC virtually, as compared to in-person (as was the case for the first 3 SGC meetings) were also discussed. Impacts of the SGC were identified across preparatory, execution phase and translational stages of research. Impacts of SGC involvement on members were also described. CONCLUSION Older adult research partners played an important role designing, implementing, and evaluating co-design approaches in this study. Older adults and service providers can make important contributions to the design, delivery and sharing results of health research through their lived expertise and connections to community. This project contributes to the growing field of citizen and community engagement in research by offering a participatory approach to engagement evaluation that considers diversity, satisfaction, and impact.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study examined the effects of work-related electronic communication (WREC) during non-working hours in the work from home or office setting on health. METHODS The study recruited 98 information technology workers in a 9-day observational study. They recorded work-life events (eg, work style (working mostly from home or the office) and duration of WREC during non-working hours) and subjective ratings (eg, current fatigue, sleepiness and depression) and wore a sleep actigraph to measure objective sleep variables before bedtime every day. They completed the Brief Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT-B) before bedtime for 4 days. RESULTS The frequency of WREC was significantly higher when working mostly from home than in the office (p<0.01). In addition, the duration of WREC was longer when working mostly from home than in the office (p<0.001). Linear or generalised linear mixed model analysis for fatigue, depression and PVT lapse revealed significant interaction effects between work style and WREC (all p<0.05). Post hoc analysis showed that the longer the WREC, the worse the fatigue and depression and the lower the lapse on working mostly from the office (all p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS Longer WREC is associated with worse fatigue and depression and lower lapse of PVT (higher alertness) before bedtime for working mostly from the office. Workers, especially those working from the office, should minimise WREC during non-working hours to maintain good health. Therefore, companies, managers and other relevant stakeholders should refrain from contacting workers during non-working hours.

Abstract
In the recent past, many organizations and people have substituted face-to-face meetings with videoconferences. Among others, tools like Zoom, Teams, and Webex have become the "new normal" of human social interaction in many domains (e.g., business, education). However, this radical adoption and extensive use of videoconferencing tools also has a dark side, referred to as videoconference fatigue (VCF). To date only self-report evidence has shown that VCF is a serious issue. However, based on self-reports alone it is hardly possible to provide a comprehensive understanding of a cognitive phenomenon like VCF. Against this background, we examined VCF also from a neurophysiological perspective. Specifically, we collected and analyzed electroencephalography (continuous and event-related) and electrocardiography (heart rate and heart rate variability) data to investigate whether VCF can also be proven on a neurophysiological level. We conducted a laboratory experiment based on a within-subjects design (N = 35). The study context was a university lecture, which was given in a face-to-face and videoconferencing format. In essence, the neurophysiological data-together with questionnaire data that we also collected-show that 50 min videoconferencing, if compared to a face-to-face condition, results in changes in the human nervous system which, based on existing literature, can undoubtedly be interpreted as fatigue. Thus, individuals and organizations must not ignore the fatigue potential of videoconferencing. A major implication of our study is that videoconferencing should be considered as a possible complement to face-to-face interaction, but not as a substitute.

Abstract
With the outbreak of COVID-19, organizations have increased non-face-to-face work. This study aims to examine how leaders' influence tactics affect employees' psychological state and job performance in a non-face-to-face work (telework) setting. Moreover, based on substitutes for leadership theory, the study proposes that teleworkers' perceived organizational support moderates the relationship between leaders' influence tactics and their job stress in telework settings. We collected data via time-lagged surveys among 208 full-time employees in South Korean organizations that began teleworking after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The results showed that leaders' soft tactics (i.e., behaviors used to elicit the followers' voluntary acceptance of a request) and rational tactics (i.e., behaviors that exert influence by providing empirical evidence based on reason or logic) significantly reduced teleworkers' job stress, which in turn lowered their turnover intention and increased their task performance. Moreover, these tactics and teleworkers' perceived organizational support interact to influence the workers' job stress. By examining how leaders' influence tactics affect teleworkers' psychological stress, task performance, and turnover intention in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this study theoretically broadens the influence tactics literature, which previously focused primarily on face-to-face workers. The study concludes with a discussion about the implications of findings and limitations, along with areas for future research.

Abstract
Introduction The Covid-19 pandemic caused a change in learning methods to online learning. Zoom fatigue is a problem that many students experience during online learning. Zoom fatigue has an impact on physical and psychological problems so that it disrupts the online learning process. Hardiness is needed by students in order to adapt to online learning. Aim The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between hardiness and zoom fatigue in nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. Methods This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design. The sample technique used total sampling. Respondents were 480 nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. The research instrument used the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue Scale questionnaire and the Hardiness Instrument for the Online Learning. Results This study shows that almost half of the respondents have a medium hardiness level category (45%) and a zoom level of medium fatigue category (46.67%). The results of the analysis show that there is a significant negative relationship between hardiness and zoom fatigue in nursing students at Universitas Padjadjaran. The higher the student's hardiness level, the lower the student's zoom fatigue level. High hardiness can increase focus during the learning process, increase student participation, and reduce stress and fatigue in students during online learning. Conclusion Lecturers and students need to collaborate to improve the learning process and repeat mental health problems during online learning. This data forms the basis for university and school nurses in providing interventions for nursing students to reduce the problem of zoom fatigue.

Abstract
A Human Library is a structured event that brings people from different groups together. It simulates the format of a customary library, with 'Readers' borrowing 'Books', who are human volunteers sharing their lived experiences and perspectives. Rooted in principles of social psychology, Human Libraries provide opportunities for Books and Readers to interact in meaningful dialogue. The goal of each interaction is to give the Reader new understanding of the Book's life. The Human Library was originally developed as a strategy to challenge prejudice through conversation and personal connection, but the approach is remarkably versatile. We repurposed it for a medical education context in order to provide learners in medical school with information and inspiration, particularly about rural life and rural medicine. We organized and held two Human Library events where pre-medical and undergraduate medical students (Readers) engaged in dialogue with rural physicians (Books). However, the strategy could be used to address a wide variety of challenging subjects where the potential Readers are biased or lack experience. This article draws upon research literature and our own experiences of running Human Library events to give practical advice for other organizations who might want to use this novel approach in medical education.

Abstract
Faculty from the University of Florida Department of Pathology, Immunology, and Laboratory Medicine developed an asynchronous, fully virtual pathology elective for medical students that emphasizes both foundational pathology concepts as well as the role of pathologists in the broader health system. The program includes ten core modules as well as several selective modules which allows students to tailor their coursework to better align with their desired specialty. After completing each module, students were required to concisely summarize the topic in the form of a 280-character tweet. Students were surveyed immediately after finishing the course and again one year after finishing the course to assess the effectiveness of the course in teaching students about pathology. Survey results showed significant improvement in student knowledge about the field of pathology and high levels of satisfaction with the course content and delivery. The tweet summaries required in the course provided a unique challenge for students. Although the course was initially developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, enrollment has continued steadily through 2023. Our study suggests that online pathology electives can be an effective way to increase medical student exposure to pathology and facilitate learning about the field of pathology, especially among students who may not ultimately pursue a career in pathology.

Abstract
The COVID-19 health pandemic acted as a punctuated event that spurred rapid change in healthcare delivery, pushing us to adopt new socio-cultural norms and ways of communicating. The pandemic also altered several long-standing structures within healthcare organizations. To better understand peoples' perceptions of how the pandemic shifted technological structures within healthcare, this study examines a telemedicine (TM) Reddit forum. Analyzing language use on Reddit offered a bottom-up means of examining the public's feelings, understandings, and conceptualizations of TM. Studying language use provides rich insight into how people experience and make sense of the world around them. We specifically examined three time periods: (1) prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, (2) the two years at the center of the outbreak, wherein TM coverage increased-high-risk COVID, and (3) the point at which COVID-19 community risk levels largely diminished -low-risk COVID. Using LIWC, we studied around 1500 conversations posted in the TM forum from 2015 to 2022. Results reveal how people's language use and emotions surrounding TM meaningfully shifted over-time, along with the pandemic stages. Specifically, negative emotion language significantly increased and positive emotion language significantly decreased during Time 3-low-risk COVID. Use of body and health words increased throughout the time periods, and there were no significant differences in cognitive processing words use-which were used very frequently across all time periods. Theoretical and practical implications are offered.

Abstract
In response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many individuals turned to synchronous online video communication technologies as a substitute for real-world face-to-face interactions. Evidence indicates that some users of such technologies show symptoms of exhaustion and fatigue during and after videoconferences (VCs) – this phenomenon is referred to as Videoconference Fatigue (VC fatigue). Research characterizing the possible vulnerability factors for VC fatigue is still scarce and considered to be in its early stage. Contributing to closing this gap in the existing literature is the motivation for the present study. Survey data was collected from 311 German-speaking participants to explore the relationships of VC fatigue with several psychological factors including autistic traits, social phobia, Fear of COVID-19, tendencies towards Internet Use Disorders (IUD tendencies), and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO, trait and state variables). Results showed that VC fatigue was significantly positively correlated with all of these psychological factors except state-FoMO, and corss-sectional mediation analyses provided further evidence for the positive association between autistic traits and VC fatigue. Specifically, the relationship between autistic traits and VC fatigue was mediated by Fear of COVID-19 and IUD tendencies rather than social phobia, with the latter being a preregistered hypothesis. This study adds to the literature by revealing several possible vulnerability factors associated with VC fatigue. In essence, the present work sheds light on the complex association between autistic traits and VC fatigue. We discuss the implications of our study as well as its limitations and potential avenues for future research.

Abstract
This paper presents a method to induce stress in human subjects during online participation in research studies without the presence of researchers. In this study, participants in the stress-inducing condition (N = 52, 44%) were asked to answer general knowledge and mathematical questions which people often get wrong, and did so under time pressure as well as receiving feedback. In contrast, participants in the control condition (N = 66, 56%) did not have time pressure or receive feedback. The stress manipulation was found to be effective, as the reported state anxiety and visual analog scale on stress scores were higher for the stress group than for the non-stress group (both findings, p < 0.001). Consistent findings were found when accounting for trait anxiety as a moderator, with the exception of the state anxiety levels in high trait anxiety group. This stressing method combines the established stress conditions of uncontrollability (such as time pressures) and social evaluative threats (such as negative feedback). In addition, the method contains specific measures (such as a commitment statement and attention check questions) to enhance the internal validity by preventing and detecting cheating or random responses. This method can be deployed through any commonly available online software. It offers a simple and cost-effective way to collect data online - which fits the increasing need to carry out research in virtual and online environments.

Abstract
During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lock-down, digital platforms like Zoom became essential for remote work. Yet at the same time, substantial security and privacy risks made the headlines. Using the lenses of Naturalistic Decision-making and the Theory of Multilevel Information Privacy, we find diverging responses to well-documented security risks of Zoom use in educational environments. We identify-three distinct response patterns, which we name the 'Agnostic', the 'Pragmatic' and the 'Sceptic', and show how the interplay of the salient social identity, personal privacy norms, and the privacy calculus guides the dynamic of privacy decision-making in light of experiential feedback, and the developing public discourse about security risks. We provide empirical evidence for multilevel decision-making and highlight the contextual and social nature of privacy decision-making about platform mode of use for remote work.

Abstract
RATIONALE There is a growing demand for comprehensive, evidence-based, and accessible clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) to address virtual service delivery. This demand was particularly evident within the field of hearing healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic, when providers were faced with an immediate need to offer services at a distance. Considering the recent advancement in information and communication technologies, the slow uptake of virtual care, and the lack of knowledge tools to support clinical integration in hearing healthcare, a Knowledge-to-Action Framework was used to address the virtual care delivery research-to-practice gap. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES This paper outlines the development of a CPG specific to provider-directed virtual hearing aid care. Clinical integration of the guideline took place during the COVID-19 pandemic and in alignment with an umbrella project aimed at implementing and evaluating virtual hearing aid care incorporating many different stakeholders. METHOD Evidence from two systematic literature reviews guided the CPG development. Collaborative actions around knowledge creation resulted in the development of a draft CPG (v1.9) and the mobilisation of the guideline into participating clinical sites. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION Literature review findings are discussed along with the co-creation process that included 13 team members, from various research and clinical backgrounds, who participated in the writing, revising, and finalising of the draft version of the guideline.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed people's professional and private lives globally and has led to an increasing use of digital technologies, especially video conferencing systems (e.g. Zoom, Webex, Teams, Skype). Despite the possible advantages of these systems (e.g. savings in emissions by avoiding travelling), a negative phenomenon has been reported in science and practice: Videoconference Fatigue (VCF) (often synonymously referred to as Zoom Fatigue). This term describes the exhaustion and fatigue that results from the use of videoconferencing systems. In this article we report on an analysis of the academic literature, the aim of which is to document the current state of research on coping strategies. The analysis of coping strategies helps to better understand the phenomenon of VCF and to prevent or reduce fatigue and exhaustion. Furthermore, the results reported here are a basis for future work. Specifically, as of May 2022, we have identified 48 scientific articles on VCF, 37 of which also deal with coping strategies. We divide these strategies into organizational (e.g. taking breaks during and between meetings), personal (e.g. avoiding multitasking) and technological (e.g. use of the "together mode" in Teams). An important finding of our analysis is that with the exception of one paper, the effectiveness of the coping strategies has not yet been empirically examined and thus proven. This opens up enormous future research potential.

Abstract
Background Mind-body therapies (MBTs) are an effective treatment option for people living with and surviving from cancer to help manage unwanted physical and psychological symptoms and side-effects related to treatment and the illness itself. Many of these structured MBTs, such as Mindfulness Based Cancer Recovery (MBCR) and tai chi/qigong (TCQ) programs are common; however, COVID-19 caused most research intervention trials and clinical programs to halt completely, or rapidly adapt an online modality. The Mindfulness and Tai Chi for Cancer Health (MATCH) study, a large-scale study that compared MBCR to a structured TCQ program for treating psychological and physical health outcomes for cancer survivors, adapted to an online, Zoom delivered, program at the outset of COVID-19. Objectives Study objectives were to explore the experiences of MATCH study participants who took the MBCR or TCQ program completely in-person, those who took the program completely online (over zoom), and participants who had to shift from in-person to online delivery midway through their series of TCQ classes. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 13 participants following participation in either the MBCR or TCQ program of the MATCH study. Results We derived four themes from the data: 1) attending to personal needs, 2) functional, interpersonal, and COVID19-related challenges, 3) unique engagement styles based on mode of delivery, and 4) ease of transitioning to remote delivery. We found that thematic outcomes were variable and largely based on individual preference, such as valuing more autonomy online, or appreciating the interpersonal connection of being in-person. Our results further indicated that the process of shifting from in-person to online within a short time-period was a relatively seamless transition that had minimal impact on participant experience. Conclusions Insights from this study highlight the benefits of digital mind-body therapies for cancer survivors that extend beyond the acute effects of COVID19.

Abstract
Videoconference fatigue (hereafter VC fatigue) presents a new psychological construct, which gained momentum in course of the COVID-19 pandemic with the rise of videoconferences taking place in everyday (work-)life. In order to better characterize VC fatigue, it is of importance not only to investigate associations with age, gender and personality (as has been done earlier and will be revisited). Besides, it is crucial to shed light on relevant psychopathological constructs co-occurring with VC fatigue. In the present survey study, based on data from N = 311 participants recruited via the Internet we investigated the associations between VC fatigue, burnout and depression, and we specifically took the personality trait neuroticism as potential predisposing variable into account. These four constructs were robustly positively associated with each other. Moreover, mediation analyses revealed that the positive associations between neuroticism and burnout/depression might in parts be mediated by VC fatigue. However, future studies are needed to disentangle cause and effect between the aforementioned variables. The present study, to our knowledge, is among the first to reveal associations between VC fatigue and psychopathologies. Moreover, in this paper we present a German version of the Zoom Exhaustion & Fatigue scale (ZEF) by Fauville and colleagues.

Abstract
With the increasing digital transformation, work tasks are changing-in some cases, significantly. Our study addresses the question of whether the established criteria for work design are still sufficient or if they should get updated and additional criteria become necessary in the context of digitalization. In a multistage consensus process involving interdisciplinary groups of experts, we have identified specific criteria for the humane design of work in a world increasingly permeated by digitalized work tools. Starting with an expert workshop using a combined nominal group/focus group technique, followed by a real-time Delphi study, a content analysis and a five-stage peer comment process, we detected 13 criteria and 38 design guidelines for human-centered work in digital transformation. Mapping these with established criteria, it became apparent that some established criteria have experienced a new dynamic because of the digital transformation. For other criteria, a need for digitization-sensitive design is discernible. In addition, criteria have emerged whose necessity is rooted in the digital transformation. A diffusion and stronger interconnection of the various levels of the work system in connection with the digital transformation of work is apparent.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For dermatology to effectively address the ever-growing medical needs, longstanding communication barriers across investigators working in different research pillars and practicing clinicians must be improved. To address this problem, trainee-specific programs are now evolving to align their educational landscape across basic science, translational and clinical research programs. OBJECTIVES To establish a Skin Investigation Network of Canada (SkIN Canada) training roadmap for the career and skill development of future clinicians, clinican scientists and basic scientists in Canada. This Working Group aims to strengthen and harmonize collaborations and capacity across the skin research community. METHODS The Working Group conducted a search of established international academic societies which offered trainee programs with mandates similar to SkIN Canada. Societies' program items and meetings were evaluated by use of an interview survey and/or the collection of publicly available data. Program logistics, objectives and feedback were assessed for commonalities and factors reported or determined to improve trainee experience. RESULTS Through the various factors explored, the Working Group discovered the need for increasing program accessibility, creating opportunities for soft skill development, emphasizing the importance of current challenges, collecting and responding to feedback, and improving knowledge sharing to bridge pillars of skin research. CONCLUSIONS Although improvements have been made to trainee education in recent years, a plurality of approaches exist and many of the underlying roadblocks remain unresolved. To establish fundamental clinician-basic scientist collaboration and training efforts, this Working Group highlights important factors to include and consider in building a trainee program and emphasizes the importance of trainee education.

Abstract
When COVID-19 led to mandatory working from home, significant blind spots in supporting the sociality of working life-in the moment and over time-were revealed in enterprise video meetings, and these were a key factor in reports about videoconferencing fatigue. Drawing on a large study (N = 849) of one global technology company's employees' experiences of all-remote video meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic, we use a dialectic method to explore the tensions expressed by employees around effectiveness and sociality, as well as their strategies to cope with these tensions. We argue that videoconferencing fatigue arose partly due to work practices and technologies designed with assumptions of steady states and taken-for-granted balances between task and social dimensions of work relationships. Our analysis offers a social lens on videoconferencing fatigue and suggests the need to reconceptualize ideas around designing technologies and practices to enable both effectiveness and sociality in the context of video meetings.

Abstract
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the relationship between virtual meeting participation and wellbeing. Based on the conservation of resources theory, we hypothesize that participation in more virtual meetings is associated with both negative and positive wellbeing indicators.Design/methodology/approachAn online survey was sent to 3,530 employees across five Belgian universities in April 2020. Useful data from 814 respondents was collected and analyzed to test the hypothesized relationships.FindingsThe authors find support for their hypotheses, namely that participating in more virtual meetings is associated not only with negative wellbeing indicators (workload, stress and fatigue) but also with a positive wellbeing indicator, namely work influence.Research limitations/implicationsGiven the unique work-from-home context during the pandemic, the generalizability of our findings may be limited. Nevertheless, this study contributes to the literature on Meeting Science and Virtual Work, as it is the first study to empirically relate virtual meetings to wellbeing indicators, including a positive one.Practical implicationsAs virtual meetings and work-from-home are expected to remain prevalent, understanding wellbeing implications is of high managerial importance. Their findings can be useful for (HR) managers who develop flexible work policies for a post-pandemic world.Social implicationsThe findings draw attention to the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between productivity and wellbeing in creating a sustainable work(-from-home) context.Originality/valueThe COVID-19 lockdown provided a unique opportunity to obtain insight on the relationship between virtual meetings and wellbeing at an unprecedented scale.

Abstract
This research examines the form in which undergraduates use video cameras during videoconferencing class sessions in a Smart Classroom context and, more specifically, the reasons why a considerable number of students opt to turn off their cameras when videoconferencing during the sessions while others keep them on. The study was carried out in an institution that had previously switched from face-to-face teaching to an Emergency Remote Teaching solution, initially adopted in 2019-2020 to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Findings suggest that using cameras when videoconferencing is associated with increasing and enhancing the interaction between the student and the rest of the class, although not all students agreed with this conclusion. In addition, having the video cameras switched fomented socialization and improved the overall online learning experience for students. However, the surveyed students pointed out diverse negative elements, such as why they had to turn on their personal cameras, privacy concerns, and limitations derived from the available technology infrastructure, in addition to other factors such as distractions, anxiety, and cognitive load. This work discusses how these elements can influence the well-being and the user experience of the students, both positively and negatively.

Abstract
Self-determination theory has shaped our understanding of what optimizes worker motivation by providing insights into how work context influences basic psychological needs for competence, autonomy and relatedness. As technological innovations change the nature of work, self-determination theory can provide insight into how the resulting uncertainty and interdependence might influence worker motivation, performance and well-being. In this Review, we summarize what self-determination theory has brought to the domain of work and how it is helping researchers and practitioners to shape the future of work. We consider how the experiences of job candidates are influenced by the new technologies used to assess and select them, and how self-determination theory can help to improve candidate attitudes and performance during selection assessments. We also discuss how technology transforms the design of work and its impact on worker motivation. We then describe three cases where technology is affecting work design and examine how this might influence needs satisfaction and motivation: remote work, virtual teamwork and algorithmic management. An understanding of how future work is likely to influence the satisfaction of the psychological needs of workers and how future work can be designed to satisfy such needs is of the utmost importance to worker performance and well-being. Technology is changing the nature of work by enabling new forms of automation and communication. In this Review, Gagné et al. describe how self-determination theory can help researchers and practitioners to shape the future of work to ensure that it meets the psychological needs of workers.

Abstract
The present pandemic forced our daily interactions to move into the virtual world. People had to adapt to new communication media that afford different ways of interaction. Remote communication decreases the availability and salience of some cues but also may enable and highlight others. Importantly, basic movement dynamics, which are crucial for any interaction as they are responsible for the informational and affective coupling, are affected. It is therefore essential to discover exactly how these dynamics change. In this exploratory study of six interacting dyads we use traditional variability measures and cross recurrence quantification analysis to compare the movement coordination dynamics in quasi-natural dialogues in four situations: (1) remote video-mediated conversations with a self-view mirror image present, (2) remote video-mediated conversations without a self-view, (3) face-to-face conversations with a self-view, and (4) face-to-face conversations without a self-view. We discovered that in remote interactions movements pertaining to communicative gestures were exaggerated, while the stability of interpersonal coordination was greatly decreased. The presence of the self-view image made the gestures less exaggerated, but did not affect the coordination. The dynamical analyses are helpful in understanding the interaction processes and may be useful in explaining phenomena connected with video-mediated communication, such as “Zoom fatigue”.

Abstract
The online remote learning revolution in the era of the pandemic has resulted in the massive explosion of videoconferencing technologies. The emergence of a new phenomenon of exhaustion and fatigue experienced during virtual meetings is evident. This study examined the predictors of videoconferencing fatigue among higher education faculty in the Philippines. A total of 322 faculty participated in this cross-sectional study. The online survey was administered using the Zoom Exhaustion and Fatigue scale as the primary data collection tool. Significant predictors of videoconferencing fatigue were identified using the multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that the videoconference fatigue composite score of the faculty was 3.35 out of 5 suggesting a moderate level of fatigue. Significant predictors of videoconferencing fatigue among higher education faculty include attitude, sense of being physically trapped, mirror anxiety, emotional stability domain of personality, interval between videoconferences, and duration of videoconferences. For better videoconferencing experience among faculty, mechanisms to ease fatigue during virtual meetings may be proposed based on the study result.

Abstract
ObjectiveManaging type 1 diabetes is stressful. Stress physiology influences glucose metabolism. Continuous glucose monitors allow us to track glucose variability in the real-world environment. Managing stress and cultivating resiliency should improve diabetes management and reduce glucose variability.Research Design and MethodsThe study was designed as a randomized prospective cohort pre-post study with wait time control. Participants were adult type 1 diabetes patients who used a continuous glucose monitor and recruited from an academic endocrinology practice. The intervention was the Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) program conducted over 8 sessions over web-based video conference software. The main outcome measures were Glucose variability, the Diabetes Self-Management questionnaire (DSMQ),Short-Form Six-Dimension (SF-6D), and the Connor-Davidson Resiliency (CD-RSIC) instrument.ResultsThere was statistically significant improvement in participants DSMQ and CD RISC scores though the SF-6D did not change. Participants under age 50 years-old showed a statistically significant reduction in average glucose (p = .03) and Glucose Management Index (GMI) (p = .02). Participants also had reduced percentage of time high and increased time in range though this did not reach statistical significance. The participants found doing the intervention online acceptable if not always ideal.ConclusionsAn 8-session stress management and resiliency training program reduced diabetes related stress and improved resiliency and reduced average blood glucose and GMI in those under 50 years-old.Clinical Trial RegistrationClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT04944264.

Abstract
Videoconferencing (VC) is a type of online meeting that allows two or more participants from different locations to engage in live multi-directional audio-visual communication and collaboration (e.g., via screen sharing). The COVID-19 pandemic has induced a boom in both private and professional videoconferencing in the early 2020s that elicited controversial public and academic debates about its pros and cons. One main concern has been the phenomenon of videoconference fatigue. The aim of this conceptual review article is to contribute to the conceptual clarification of VC fatigue. We use the popular and succinct label "Zoom fatigue" interchangeably with the more generic label "videoconference fatigue" and define it as the experience of fatigue during and/or after a videoconference, regardless of the specific VC system used. We followed a structured eight-phase process of conceptual analysis that led to a conceptual model of VC fatigue with four key causal dimensions: (1) personal factors, (2) organizational factors, (3) technological factors, and (4) environmental factors. We present this 4D model describing the respective dimensions with their sub-dimensions based on theories, available evidence, and media coverage. The 4D-model is meant to help researchers advance empirical research on videoconference fatigue.
