Abstract
The development of sustainable biomaterials and surfaces to prevent the accumulation and proliferation of viruses and bacteria is highly demanded in healthcare areas. This study describes the assembly and full characterization of two new bioactive silver(I) coordination polymers (CPs) formulated as [Ag(aca)(μ-PTA)]n·5nH2O (1) and [Ag2(μ-ada)(μ3-PTA)2]n·4nH2O (2). These products were generated by exploiting a heteroleptic approach based on the use of two different adamantoid building blocks, namely 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) and 1-adamantanecarboxylic (Haca) or 1,3-adamantanedicarboxylic (H2ada) acids, resulting in the assembly of 1D (1) and 3D (2). Antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties of the obtained compounds were investigated in detail, followed by their incorporation as bioactive dopants (1 wt %) into hybrid biopolymers based on acid-hydrolyzed starch polymer (AHSP). The resulting materials, formulated as 1@AHSP and 2@AHSP, also featured (i) an exceptional antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 and human adenovirus (HAd-5) and (ii) a remarkable antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Docking experiments, interaction with human serum albumin, mass spectrometry, and antioxidation studies provided insights into the mechanism of antimicrobial action. By reporting these new silver CPs driven by adamantoid building blocks and the derived starch-based materials, this study endows a facile approach to access biopolymers and interfaces capable of preventing and reducing the proliferation of a broad spectrum of different microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

Abstract
Chicory ( Cichorium intybus L.) is widely consumed as a food plant in many regions of the world and has been involved in traditional medicine due to its unique contents of phytochemicals. We aimed to investigate the anti-fungal, anti-hemolytic, and anti-cancer activities of chicory roots and leaves ethanolic extracts, and their Chitosan nanoparticles (Chit NPs) formulations. The ethanolic extract of chicory roots and leaves were microencapsulated into Chit NPs. The anti-hemolytic, anti-fungal, and anti-cancer activity of chicory extracts and their Chit-NPs were investigated, along with an in vitro toxicological study. Chicory extracts encapsulation into Chit NPs increased their anti-fungal activity against two fungal pathogens, Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus. Chicory extracts and their Chit NPs appeared strong anti-hemolytic activity in hypotonic media. Due to microencapsulation of roots and leaves extracts into Chit NPs, the IC50 was decreased 2.49 and 2.6-folds in HepG2 and MCF-7 cell lines, and 6.31 and 5.50-folds in HepG2 and MCF-7 cell lines, respectively. The in vitro toxicological study revealed that the IC50 of chicory roots (56.84 ± 6.4 μg/ml) and leaves (45.51 ± 4.2 μg/ml) decreased 8.45 and 6.77-folds in the normal human fibroblasts (WI38) cell line, compared to Doxorubicin (6.72 ± 0.5 μg/ml). Microencapsulation of extracts into Chit NPs increased their toxicity 2.43-folds for Chit-Roots NPs (IC50 = 23.35 ± 2.3 μg/ml) and 1.22-fold for Chit-Leaves NPs (IC50 = 37.29 ± 2.9 μg/ml). Chicory-Chit NPs possess promising anti-cancer and anti-hemolytic activities. It is worth for further testing their efficacy and toxicity in pre-clinical animal models as well as clinical trials.

Abstract
Dengue is one of the most typical viral infection categorized in the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). It is transmitted via the female Aedes aegypti mosquito to humans and majorly puts risk to the lives of more than half of the world. Recent advancements in medicinal chemistry have led to the design and development of numerous potential heterocyclic scaffolds as antiviral drug candidates for the inhibition of the dengue virus (DENV). Thus, in this review, we have discussed the significance of inhibitory and antiviral activities of nitrogen, oxygen, and mixed (nitrogen-sulfur and nitrogen-oxygen) heterocyclic scaffolds that are published in the last seven years (2016–2022). Furthermore, we have also discussed the probable mechanisms of action and the diverse structure-activity relationships (SARs) of the heterocyclic scaffolds. In addition, this review has elaborately outlined the mechanism of viral infection and the life cycle of DENV in the host cells. The wide set of heterocycles and their SARs will aid in the development of pharmaceuticals that will allow the researchers to synthesize the promising anti-dengue drug candidate in the future.

Abstract
Heterocycles are commonly known for their unique features, e.g., antibacterial or anticancer properties. Although many synthetic heterocycles, such as 4-thiazolidinone (4-TZD), have been synthesized, their potential applications have not yet been fully investigated. However, many researchers have reported relevant results that can be a basis for the search for new potential drugs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the cytotoxic, cytostatic, and antibacterial effects of certain 4-thiazolidinone-based derivatives, Les-3166, Les-5935, Les-6009, and Les-6166, on human fibroblasts (BJ), neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y), epithelial lung carcinoma (A549), and colorectal adenocarcinoma (CACO-2) cell lines in vitro. All tested compounds applied in a concentration range from 10 to 100 µM were able to decrease metabolic activity in the BJ, A549, and SH-SY5Y cell lines. However, the action of Les-3166 was mainly based on the ROS-independent pathway, similarly to Les-6009. In turn, Les-5935 and Les-6166 were able to promote ROS production in BJ, A549, and SH-SY5Y cells, compared to the control. Les-3166, Les-6009, and Les-6166 significantly increased the caspase-3 activity, especially at the concentrations of 50 µM and 100 µM. However, Les-5935 did not induce apoptosis. Only Les-5935 showed a minor cytostatic effect on SH-SY5Y cells. Additionally, the antibacterial properties of the tested compounds against P. aeruginosa bacterial biofilm can be ranked as follows: Les-3166 > Les-5935 > Les-6009. Les-6166 did not show any anti-biofilm activity. In summary, the study showed that Les-5935, Les-6009, and Les-6166 were characterized by anticancer properties, especially in the human lung cancer cell. In cases of BJ, SH-SY5Y, and CACO-2 cells the anticancer usage of such compounds is limited due to effect visible only at 50 and 100 µM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The major concern of today's time is the developing resistance in most of the clinically derived pathogenic micro-organisms for available drugs through several mechanisms. Therefore, there is a dire need to develop novel molecules with drug-like properties that can be effective against the otherwise resistant micro-organisms. METHODS New drugs can be developed using several methods like structure-based drug design, ligandbased drug design, or by developing analogs of the available drugs to further improve their effects. However, the smartness is to opt for the techniques that have comparatively less expenditure, lower failure rates, and faster discovery rates. RESULTS Analog-Based Drug Design (ABDD) is one such technique that researchers worldwide are opting to develop new drug-like molecules with comparatively lower market values. They start by first designing the analogs sharing structural and pharmacological similarities to the existing drugs. This method embarks on scaffold structures of available drugs already approved by the clinical trials, but are left ineffective because of resistance developed by the pathogens. CONCLUSION In this review, we have discussed some recent examples of anti-fungal and anti-bacterial (antimicrobial) drugs that were designed based on the ABDD technique. Also, we have tried to focus on the in silico tools and techniques that can contribute to the designing and computational screening of the analogs, so that these can be further considered for in vitro screening to validate their better biological activities against the pathogens with comparatively reduced rates of failure.

Abstract
Neuroinflammation is an integral part of epilepsy pathogenesis and other convulsive conditions, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) present a potent tool for the contemporary search and design of novel anticonvulsants. In the present paper, evaluation of the anticonvulsant activity of the potential NSAID dual COX-2/5-LOX inhibitor darbufelone methanesulfonate using an scPTZ model in mice in dose 100 mg/kg is reported. Darbufelone possesses anticonvulsant properties in the scPTZ model and presents interest for in-depth studies as a possible anticonvulsant multi-target agent with anti-inflammatory activity. The series of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives have been synthesized following the analogue-based drug design and hybrid-pharmacophore approach using a darbufelone matrix. The synthesized derivatives showed a significant protection level for animals in the scPTZ model and are promising compounds for the design of potential anticonvulsants with satisfactory drug-like parameters.

Abstract
A series of ethyl 2-(2-(arylidene)hydrazinyl)thiazole-4-carboxylates (2a-r) was synthesized in two steps from thiosemicarbazones (1a-r), which were cyclized with ethyl bromopyruvate to ethyl 2-(2-(arylidene)hydrazinyl)thiazole-4-carboxylates (2a-r). The structures of compounds (2a-r) were established by FT-IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR. The structure of compound 2a was confirmed by HRMS. The compounds (2a-r) were then evaluated for their antimicrobial and antioxidant assays. The antioxidant studies revealed, ethyl 2-(2-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidene)hydrazinyl)thiazole-4-carboxylate (2g) and ethyl 2-(2-(1-phenylethylidene)hydrazinyl)thiazole-4-carboxylate (2h) as promising antioxidant agents with %FRSA: 84.46 ± 0.13 and 74.50 ± 0.37, TAC: 269.08 ± 0.92 and 269.11 ± 0.61 and TRP: 272.34 ± 0.87 and 231.11 ± 0.67 μg AAE/mg dry weight of compound. Beside bioactivities, density functional theory (DFT) methods were used to study the electronic structure and properties of synthesized compounds (2a-m). The potential of synthesized compounds for possible antiviral targets is also predicted through molecular docking methods. The compounds 2e and 2h showed good binding affinities and inhibition constants to be considered as therapeutic target for Mpro protein of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). The present in-depth analysis of synthesized compounds will put them under the spot light for practical applications as antioxidants and the modification in structural motif may open the way for COVID-19 drug.

Engineering nanoscale hierarchical morphologies and geometrical shapes for microbial inactivation in aqueous solution. MATERIALS SCIENCE & ENGINEERING. C, MATERIALS FOR BIOLOGICAL APPLICATIONS 2021; 122:111844. Abstract
Here, we study the effect of hierarchical and one-dimensional (1D) metal oxide nanorods (H-NRs) such as γ-Al2O3, β-MnO2, and ZnO as microbial inhibitors on the antimicrobial efficiency in aqueous solution. These microbial inhibitors are fabricated in a diverse range of nanoscale hierarchical morphologies and geometrical shapes that have effective surface exposure, and well-defined 1D orientation. For instance, γ-Al2O3 H-NRs with 20 nm width and ˂0.5 μm length are grown dominantly in the [400] direction. The wurtzite structures of β-MnO2 H-NRs with 30 nm width and 0.5-1 μm length are preferentially oriented in the [100] direction. Longitudinal H-NRs with a width of 40 nm and length of 1 μm are controlled with ZnO wurtzite structure and grown in [0001] direction. The antimicrobial efficiency of H-NRs was evaluated through experimental assays using a set of microorganisms (Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus thuriginesis, and Bacillus subtilis) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacteria. Minimal inhibitory and minimum bactericidal concentrations (MIC and MBC) were determined. These 1D H-NRs exhibited antibacterial activity against all the used strains. The active surface exposure sites of H-NRs play a key role in the strong interaction with the thiol units of vital bacterial enzymes, leading to microbial inactivation. Our finding indicates that the biological effect of the H-NR surface planes on microbial inhibition is decreased in the order of [400]-γ-Al2O3 > [100]-β-MnO2 > [0001]-ZnO geometrics. The lowest key values including MIC (1.146 and 0.250 μg/mL), MBC (1.146, 0.313 μg/mL), and MIC/MFC (0.375 and 0.375 μg/mL) are achieved for [400]-plane γ-Al2O3 surfaces when tested against Gram-positive and -negative bacteria, respectively. Among the three H-NRs, the smallest diameter size and length, the largest surface area, and the active exposure [400] direction of γ-Al2O3 H-NRs could provide the highest microbial inactivation.

Abstract
The effect of halogen substituents (X = Br, Cl, and F) on the crystal packing and intra- and intermolecular interactions in four adamantane-thiourea hybrid derivatives is investigated using different theoretical tools. The bromo and chloro derivatives exhibit 3D isostructurality as evident from lattice parameters, molecular conformation, and crystal packing. The density functional theory study suggests that the molecular conformation of the parent (unsubstituted) and fluoro derivatives exhibits a stable low energy anti-syn conformation. In contrast, bromo and chloro derivatives adopt stable and relatively high energy minima on their potential energy surfaces. Hirshfeld surface analysis reveals the effect of halogen substituents on the intermolecular contacts. The halogen atoms mainly reduce the contribution of H···H contacts toward crystal packing. PIXEL energy analysis indicates the strong dimer formed by N-H···S hydrogen bonds in all four structures. It also revealed that a vast number of H···H contacts observed in different dimers of these structures either presented along with other conventional interactions or solely stabilize the dimeric topology. The topological parameters for intermolecular interactions in these structures suggest an intermediate bonding character between shared and closed-shell interactions for N-H···S hydrogen bonds in the parent and chloro derivatives. In contrast, the N-H···S hydrogen bond in other structures is of a closed-shell interaction. Among four derivatives, the fluoro derivative is weakly packed in the solid state based on the PIXEL method's lattice energy calculation.

Abstract
A detailed exploration of crystal packing of two adamantane-isothiourea hybrid derivatives along with a known closely related structure has been performed to delineate the effect of halogen substituents and the role of weak intermolecular interactions in their supramolecular architectures. The adamantane-isothiourea hybrid derivatives used in the present study are (Z)-3-(Adamantan-1-yl)-S-(4-bromobenzyl)-1-phenylisothiourea (1), C24H27BrN2S and (Z)-3-(Adamantan-1-yl)-S-(4-bromobenzyl)-1-(3-chlorophenyl)isothiourea (2), C24H26BrClN2S, characterized by X-ray crystallography. The X-ray structures revealed that the molecular conformation of 1 and 2 are different and stabilized by intramolecular C-H···N interactions. In addition, a short intramolecular H···H contact is formed in 2. The Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to delineate the nature of different intermolecular interactions and their contributions toward crystal packing. The quantitative analysis of strengths of molecular dimers existed in 1 and 2 has been performed using the PIXEL method. The electrostatic potential map clearly revealed nature and strength of σ-holes at Br and Cl atoms. The topological analysis was used to characterize the nature and the strength of various intermolecular interactions including the type I Br···Br contact. Interestingly, all the H-H bonding observed in 1 and 2 show closed-shell in nature. Further, an in-vitro antimicrobial activity studies suggest that the title compounds exhibited potent antibacterial activity against all the tested Gram-positive bacterial strains and Gram-negative Escherichia coli. Compound 2 showed marked anti-proliferative activity against MCF-7 and HeLa cell lines.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
A rapid and green method for the synthesis of novel N-thiazolidine-2,4-dione isoxazoline derivatives 5 from N-allyl-5-arylidenethiazolidine-2,4-diones 3 as dipolarophiles with arylnitrile oxides via 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction. The corresponding N-allyl substituted dipolarophiles were prepared by one-pot method from thiazolidine-2,4-dione with aldehydes using Knoevenagel condensation followed by N-allylation of thiazolidine-2,4-dione in NaOH aqueous solution under sonication. In addition, the isoxazoline derivatives 5 were synthesized by regioselective and chemoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition using inexpensive and mild NaCl/Oxone/Na3PO4 as a Cl source, oxidant and/or catalyst under ultrasonic irradiation in EtOH/H2O (v/v, 2:1) as green solvent. All synthesized products are furnished in good yields in the short reaction time, and then their structures were confirmed by NMR, mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography analysis.

Abstract
Background:Bacterial infections are a growing problem worldwide causing morbidity and mortality mainly in developing countries. Moreover, the increased number of microorganisms, developing multiple resistances to known drugs, due to abuse of antibiotics, is another serious problem. This problem becomes more serious for immunocompromised patients and those who are often disposed to opportunistic fungal infections. Objective:The objective of this manuscript is to give an overview of new findings in the field of antimicrobial agents among five-membered heterocyclic compounds. These heterocyclic compounds especially five-membered attracted the interest of the scientific community not only for their occurrence in nature but also due to their wide range of biological activities.Method:To reach our goal, a literature survey that covers the last decade was performed. Results:As a result, recent data on the biological activity of thiazole, thiazolidinone, benzothiazole and thiadiazole derivatives are mentioned. Conclusion:It should be mentioned that despite the progress in the development of new antimicrobial agents, there is still room for new findings. Thus, research still continues.

Abstract
![]()
Thiazoles,
their benzofused systems, and thiazolidinone derivatives
are widely recognized as nuclei of great value for obtaining molecules
with various biological activities, including analgesic, anti-inflammatory,
anti-HIV, antidiabetic, antitumor, and antimicrobial. In particular,
in the past decade, many compounds bearing these heterocycles have
been studied for their promising antibacterial properties due to their
action on different microbial targets. Here we assess the recent development
of this class of compounds to address mechanisms underlying antibiotic
resistance at both bacterial-cell and community levels (biofilms).
We also explore the SAR and the prospective clinical application of
thiazole and its benzofused derivatives, which act as inhibitors of
mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance in the treatment of severe
drug-resistant infections. In addition, we examined all bacterial
targets involved in their antimicrobial activity reporting, when described,
their spontaneous frequencies of resistance.

Abstract
A library of pyrazole-thiazolidinone conjugates was synthesized using a molecular hybridization approach through a Vilsmeier-Haack reaction. The compounds were tested for anti-microbial activity against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and four Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Klebsiella pneumonia and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). Among the compounds tested, 3-((2,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-1H-pyrazol-yl)methylene)hydrazinecarbothioamide (3a) and 2-((3-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-(2,4 dinitrophenyl)-1H-pyrazol-4-yl)methyleneamino)thiazolidin-4-one (4b) emerged as the most potent anti-microbial compounds with minimum bactericidal concentrations of < 0.2 µM against MRSA and S. aureus. Structure-activity relationship analysis further revealed that the presence of 2,4-dichloro moiety surprisingly influenced the activity of the compounds. Molecular docking studies of the compounds into the crystal structure of topoisomerase II and topoisomerase IV suggest that compounds 3a and 4b preferably interact with the targets through hydrogen bonding.

Abstract
In the title compound, C18H19BrFN3S, the 1,2,4-triazole ring is nearly planar with a maximum deviation of -0.009 (3) and 0.009 (4) Å, respectively, for the S-bound C atom and the N atom bonded to the bromo-fluoro-phenyl ring. The phenyl and triazole rings are almost perpendicular to each other, forming a dihedral angle of 89.5 (2)°. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are linked by weak C-H⋯π(phen-yl) inter-actions, forming supra-molecular chains extending along the c-axis direction. The crystal packing is further consolidated by inter-molecular N-H⋯S hydrogen bonds and by weak C-H⋯S inter-actions, yielding double chains propagating along the a-axis direction. The crystal studied was refined as a racemic twin.

Abstract
Condensation of rhodanine (1) with pyrazol-3(2H)-one derivatives (2a-f) gave 5-substituted-2-thioxo-1,3-thiazolidin-4-one derivatives (3a-f). Reaction of compound (1) with 2-arylmethylidene-malononitrile (4a-d) yielded the unexpected derivatives (5a-d). The latter compounds were subjected to cyclization reactions with malononitrile under different basic conditions, hydroxylamine hydrochloride and/or thiourea to furnish the fused thiazole derivatives (6a-d) and (8-10a-d). Coupling of (1) with diazotized aromatic amines (11a-c) in pyridine afforded the arylhydrazones (12a-c). Fusion of latter compounds with malononitrile afforded the thiazolopyridazine derivatives (13a-c). The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were elucidated via spectral data and elemental analyses. The in-vitro cytotoxic activity of compounds (3a-f) against the cell line MCF-7 was evaluated. Also, the synthesized products were investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against six standard organisms including the G+ bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, G- bacteria, Escherichia coli and Proteus vulgaris in addition to fungi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus.

Abstract
The reaction of 4-(adamantan-1-yl)-3-thiosemicarbazide 3 with various aromatic aldehydes yielded the corresponding thiosemicarbazones 4a–g. 1-Adamantyl isothiocyanate 2 was reacted with 1-methylpiperazine or piperidine to yield the corresponding N-(adamantan-1-yl)carbothioamides 5 and 6, respectively. The latter was reacted with benzyl or substituted benzyl bromides to yield the S-arylmethyl derivatives 7a–c. Attempted cyclization of 1,3-bis(adamantan-1-yl)thiourea 8 with chloroacetic acid via prolonged heating to the corresponding thiazolidin-4-one 9 resulted in desulfurization of 8 to yield its urea analogue 10. The thiazolidin-4-one 9 and its 5-arylidene derivatives 11a,b were obtained via microwave-assisted synthesis. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against a panel of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and yeast-like pathogenic fungus Candida albicans. Compounds 7a–c displayed marked broad spectrum antibacterial activities (minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), 0.5–32 μg/mL) and compounds 4a and 4g showed good activity against Candida albicans. Nine representative compounds were evaluated for anti-proliferative activity towards three human tumor cell lines. Compounds 7a–c displayed significant generalized anti-proliferative activity against all the tested cell lines with IC50 < 10 μM.

Abstract
The Fourier transform infrared and Raman spectra of the adamantane-based compound ethyl 4-[3-(adamantan-1-yl)-4-phenyl-5-sulfanylidene-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]methylpiperazine-1-carboxylate were recorded in the ranges of 3200–650[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text] and 3200–150[Formula: see text]cm[Formula: see text], respectively. The UV/Vis spectrum of solution of the title compound in ethanol was measured in the range of 450–200[Formula: see text]nm. The DFT calculations at the B3LYP/cc-pVDZ and B3LYP/cc-pVTZ levels of the theory were performed to obtain the equilibrium geometric structure and to predict vibrational IR and Raman spectra of the title molecule. The TDDFT calculations at the CAM-B3LYP/cc-pVTZ level of the theory, as well as MRPT calculations at the CASSCF(4,5)/XMCQDPT2 level of the theory were carried out to reproduce the electronic absorption spectrum. The experimental IR, Raman and UV/Vis spectra were interpreted on the basis of results of quantum chemical modeling. Based on Mulliken and Löwdin atomic population analysis, it was established that the compound under study exhibits features of an intramolecular charge transfer.

Abstract
A series of N-substituted (Z)-2-imino-(5Z)-ylidene thiazolidines/thiazolidin-4-ones were synthesized and their antiproliferative activities against colon (HCT-116) and breast (MCF7) cancer cell lines were evaluated utilizing an MTT growth assay. A 2D-QSAR investigation was conducted to probe and validate the obtained antiproliferative properties for the thiazolidine derivatives. The majority of the thiazolidines exhibit higher potency against a colon cancer cell line relative to the standard reference. The p-halophenylimino p-anisylidene derivatives exhibited the highest anti-proliferative activity against HCT116 relative to control (IC50 = 8.9-10.0 μM compared to 20.4 μM observed for 5-fluorouracil as positive control). An X-ray study confirmed the Z, Z'-configurations for two examples of the synthesized compounds.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Thiazole derivates as well as chalcones, are very important scaffold for medicinal chemistry. Literature survey revealed that they possess wide spectrum of biological activities among which are anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. OBJECTIVES The current studies describe the synthesis and evaluation of antimicrobial activity of twenty eight novel thiazole-based chalcones. METHODS The designed compounds were synthesized using classical methods of organic synthesis. The in vivo evaluation of antimicrobial activity was performed by microdilution method. RESULTS All compounds have shown antibacterial properties better than that of ampicillin and in many cases better than streptomycin. As far as the antifungal activity is concerned, all compounds possess much higher activity than reference drugs bifonazole and ketoconazole. The most sensitive bacterial species was B. cereus (MIC 6.5-28.4 µmol × 10-2/mL and MBC 14.2-105.0 µmol × 10-2/mL) while the most resistant ones were L. monocytogenes (MIC 21.4-113.6 µmol × 10-2/mL) and E. coli (MIC 10.7- 113.6 µmol × 10-2/mL) and MBC at 42.7-358.6 µmol × 10-2/mL and 21.4-247.2 µmol × 10-2/mL, respectively. All the compounds exhibited antibacterial activity against the three resistant strains, MRSA, P. aeruginosa and E.coli. with MIC and MBC in the range of 0.65-11.00 µmol/mL × 10-2 and 1.30-16.50 µmol/mL × 10-2. Docking studies were performed. CONCLUSION Twenty-eight novel thiazole-based chalcones were designed, synthesized and evaluated for antimicrobial activity. The results showed that these derivatives could be lead compounds in search of new potent antimicrobial agents. Docking studies indicated that DNA gyrase, GyrB and MurA inhibition may explain the antibacterial activity.

A facile, inexpensive and eco-friendly synthesis of functionalised (E)-ethyl2-(2-((E)-2-(1-(4-methyl-2-(phenylamino)thiazol-5yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)14-oxothiazol-5(4H)-ylidene)acetates has been developed via one-pot five-component approach. The title compounds were synthesized by the reaction of anilines, 3-chloropentane-2,4-dione, ammoniumthiocyanate, thiosemicarbazide and dialkylacetylene dicarboxylate using polyethylene glycol as green and recyclable solvent. The domino reaction proceeded smoothly in good-to-excellent yields.

Abstract
The crystal structures of the title adamantane-oxa-diazole hybrid compounds, C18H19FN2O (I) and C18H19ClN2O (II), are built up from an adamantane unit and a halogenophenyl ring, [X = F (I), Cl (II)], in position 5 on the central 1,3,4-oxa-diazole unit. The mol-ecular structures are very similar, only the relative orientation of the halogenophenyl ring in comparison with the central five-membered ring differs slightly. In the crystals of both compounds, mol-ecules are linked by pairs of C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds, forming inversion dimers with R 2 2(12) ring motifs. In (I) the dimers are connected by C-H⋯F inter-actions, forming slabs lying parallel to the bc plane. In (II), the dimers are linked by C-H⋯π and offset π-π inter-actions [inter-planar distance = 3.4039 (9) Å], forming layers parallel to (10).
