Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the associations between protein intake and fractures risk in a large population-based cohort. METHODS We conducted a prospective population-based study of UK Biobank. Participants aged 40-69 who completed the Oxford WebQ dietary questionnaire at least once were included. Exposures were percentage of energy provided by protein and its components (animal and vegetable protein). Participants were categorized into quintiles based on these exposures. The primary outcome was composite fracture, and secondary outcomes included osteoporotic and hip fractures, defined by ICD-10 codes. We used Cox proportional hazard models and restricted cubic splines (RCS) to assess the association between exposure and outcomes, as well as their dose-response relationships. RESULTS This study included 132,807 participants (mean [SD] age, 56.8 [8.0] years; 68,769 [51.8 %] female). During a median follow-up of 12.4 years, 6,673 composite fractures, 4,496 osteoporotic fractures and 930 hip fractures occurred. Regarding protein intake, compared to the lowest quintile (Q1), individuals in the highest quintile (Q5) had significantly lower risks of composite fracture (HR 0.82, 95 % CI 0.75-0.90), osteoporotic fracture (HR 0.81, 95 % CI 0.72-0.91) and hip fracture (HR 0.63, 95 % CI 0.49-0.82). Similar results were observed for animal and vegetable protein intake. RCS revealed a negative linear dose-response relationship between protein intake and fractures risk. CONCLUSION Increased protein intake can significantly reduce the risk of fractures and may serve as an important dietary strategy for promoting bone health.

Abstract
PURPOSE Second contralateral hip fractures (SCHF) are relatively uncommon. The overall prevalence of this is poorly reported in literature. METHODS We performed a single centre retrospective cohort study in patients >50 years old who sustained a SCHF between 1st of January 2005 and 30th of April 2023. A systematic search of the literature was then performed by searching PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science from the date of inception of each database through to the 22nd of February 2024. A meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the prevalence of SCHF and hip fracture pattern symmetry, incorporating both our results and that previously reported in literature. RESULTS Our cohort study showed a period prevalence of 1.7 % within 1 year and 2.8 % within 2 years following a hip fracture. 65 studies were identified using our search strategy. The overall prevalence of SCHF was 7.3 % [95 % CI: 6.3-8.4]. Meta-regression suggested that studies conducted in Europe and North America showed higher prevalence than studies conducted in Asia. A similar fracture pattern was seen in 72.1 % [95 % CI: 69.7-74.4] of patients with SCHF. CONCLUSION SCHF are relatively uncommon. When they do occur, it is usually within 2 years of the index fracture. Asian populations had lower prevalence of SCHF when compared to their European and North American counterparts. Hip fracture pattern is symmetrical in most patients with a SCHF.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Osteoporosis affects 50% of women and 20% of men after the age of 50. Fractures are associated with significant morbidity, increased mortality and altered quality of life. Lifestyle measures for fragility fracture prevention include good nutrition including adequate protein and calcium intakes, vitamin D sufficiency, and regular weight bearing physical exercise. RECENT FINDINGS Dietary protein is one of the most important nutritional considerations as it affects bone mineral density, trabecular and cortical microstructure, and bone strength. When calcium intake is sufficient, higher dietary protein intake is associated with lower risk of fracture. Dairy products are a valuable source of calcium and high quality protein. Dairy product consumption, particularly fermented dairy products, are associated with a lower risk of hip fracture and vegan diets are associated with increased fracture risk. Other dietary factors associated with reduced fracture risk include at least 5 servings per day of fruits and vegetables, regular tea drinking, adherence to a Mediterranean diet and other dietary patterns which provide fibers, polyphenols and fermented dairy products. Such dietary patterns may confer health benefits through their effect on gut microbiota composition and/or function. A balanced diet including minerals, protein, fruits and vegetables is an important element in the prevention of osteoporosis and of fragility fracture.

Abstract
Bone fractures are a significant public health issue among elderly subjects. This study examines the impact of diet and vitamin D status on the risk of long bone fractures due to falls in elderly subjects in Vojvodina, Serbia. Conducted at the University Clinical Center of Vojvodina in autumn/winter 2022-2023, the study included 210 subjects >65 years: 105 (F: 80/M: 15) with long bone fractures due to falls and 105 (F: 80/M: 15) controls. Groups were similar regarding age and BMI. Dietary intakes (by two 24-h recalls) and serum vitamin D levels were analyzed. The fracture group had a significantly lower median daily vitamin D intake (1.4 μg/day vs. 5.8 μg/day), intake of calcium, energy, proteins, fats, fibers, dairy products, eggs, fish, edible fats/oils, and a higher intake of sweets (p < 0.001 for all). Serum vitamin D levels were significantly lower in the fracture group (40.0 nmol/L vs. 76.0 nmol/L, p < 0.001). Logistic regression identified serum vitamin D as the most important protective factor against fractures, and ROC curve analysis indicated that serum vitamin D levels > 50.5 nmol/L decreased fracture risk. Nutritional improvements (increased intake of vitamin D and protein sources such as fish, eggs, and dairy), increased sun exposure, and routine vitamin D supplementation during winter are advised.

Abstract
The current study investigated subsequent fracture risk following a forearm fracture in three country of birth categories: Norway, Europe and North America, and other countries. Subsequent fracture risk was modestly higher in Norwegian-born individuals compared to the two other groups. Secondary fracture prevention should be recommended regardless of country background. BACKGROUND Fracture risk is higher in patients with a previous fracture, but whether subsequent fracture risk differs by origin of birth is unknown. This study explores subsequent fracture risk in patients with an index forearm fracture according to region of birth. METHODS Nationwide data on forearm fractures in patients ≥ 18 years in 2008-2019 were obtained from the Norwegian Patient Registry and Statistics Norway. Index fractures were identified by ICD-10 code S52, whereas subsequent fractures included any ICD-10 fracture code. Data on country of birth were from Statistics Norway and included three regional categories: (1) Norway, (2) other Europe and North America and (3) other countries. Direct age standardization and Cox proportional hazard regression were used to analyse the data. RESULTS Among 143,476 individuals with an index forearm fracture, 35,361 sustained a subsequent fracture. Norwegian-born forearm fracture patients had the highest subsequent fracture rates (516/10,000 person-years in women and 380 in men). People born outside Europe and North America had the lowest rates (278/10,000 person-years in women and 286 in men). Compared to Norwegian-born individuals, the hazard ratios (HRs) of subsequent fracture in individuals from Europe and North American were 0.93 (95% CI 0.88-0.98) in women and 0.85 (95% CI 0.79-0.92) in men. The corresponding HRs in individuals from other countries were 0.76 (95% CI 0.70-0.84) in women and 0.82 (95% CI 0.74-0.92) in men. CONCLUSION Individuals born outside Norway had a lower subsequent fracture risk than Norwegian-born individuals; however, subsequent fracture risk increased with age in all groups. Our results indicate that secondary fracture prevention should be recommended regardless of region of origin.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nutritional strategies to maintain bone health in aging individuals are of great interest. Given the beneficial nutrient composition of walnuts, rich in alpha-linolenic (the vegetable n-3 fatty acid) and polyphenols, their regular consumption might be a dietary option to reduce age-related bone loss. We determined whether daily walnut consumption improves bone mineral density (BMD) and circulating biomarkers of bone turnover. METHODS The Walnuts and Healthy Aging study (WAHA) is a two-center, parallel, randomized controlled trial evaluating the effect of a diet enriched with walnuts at ≈15% energy compared with a control diet for 2 years on age-related health outcomes in healthy men and women aged 63-79 years. Changes in BMD were a prespecified secondary outcome only at the Barcelona node of the trial, where 352 participants were randomized. Retention rate was 92.6%. Primary endpoints were 2-year changes in BMD at the spine and the nondominant femoral neck, determined by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Secondary endpoints were 2-year changes in bone turnover biomarkers (adrenocorticotropic hormone, Dickkopf WNT signaling pathway inhibitor-1, osteoprotegerin, osteocalcin, osteopontin, sclerostin, parathyroid hormone, and fibroblast growth factor-23), which were quantified in 211 randomly selected participants. RESULTS The walnut diet versus the control diet had no effect on 2-year changes in BMD at the spine (0.15% vs. 0.35%, p = 0.632) and femoral neck (-0.90% vs. -0.70%, p = 0.653), or on bone turnover biomarkers. Results were similar in participants treated or not with bone resorption inhibitors or those with or without osteoporosis/osteopenia at inclusion. CONCLUSIONS Compared with the usual diet, a diet enriched with walnuts at 15% of energy for 2 years failed to improve BMD or circulating markers of bone metabolism in healthy older people.

Abstract
We determined the prognostic value of nutritional status for outcome after hip fracture. Nutritional status was a strong independent prognostic factor for clinical outcome and 5-year mortality. Physical function showed incomplete recovery. Elderly care should focus on prevention already before hip fracture. PURPOSE To determine the prognostic value of nutritional status in hip fracture patients for multiple clinical and functional outcomes over 6 months, and for new fractures and survival over 5 years post-fracture. METHODS We included 152 well-characterized subjects (age 55+ years) with a hip fracture from a previously published randomized controlled trial. Nutritional status was appraised using the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA). Multivariable linear, logistic and Cox regression models were fitted, adjusted for age, sex, ASA score, group and additional prognostic covariates identified in backward regression models. RESULTS At baseline, impaired nutritional status was significantly associated with physical disability, depression, impaired cognition and lower quality of life. Prospective analyses showed that impaired baseline nutritional status was an independent prognostic factor for postoperative complications (OR 2.00, 95%CI 1.01-3.98, p = 0.047), discharge location from hospital (home vs. rehabilitation clinic, OR 0.41, 95%CI 0.18-0.98, p = 0.044), hospital readmission (OR 4.59, 95%CI 1.70-12.4, p = 0.003) and total length of hospital stay (HR of being discharged: 0.63, 96%CI 0.44-0.89, p = 0.008), as well as for 5-year mortality (HR 3.94, 95%CI 1.53-10.2, p = 0.005), but not for risk of new fractures (5y-HR 0.87, 95%CI 0.34-2.24, p = 0.769). Curves of physical disability over time showed that the three nutritional status categories followed almost parallel trajectories from baseline until 6 months after hip fracture, without complete recovery and even with further deterioration in malnourished subjects from 3 to 6 months post-fracture. CONCLUSION As baselline nutritional status is a strong independent prognostic factor for clinical outcome after hip fracture, affecting even five-year survival, elderly health care should focus on prevention and identification of at-risk individuals already before hip fracture.

Abstract
Hip fractures are a major health issue considerably impacting patients' quality of life and well-being. This is particularly evident in elderly subjects, in which the decline in bone and muscle mass coexists and predisposes individuals to fall and fracture. Among interventions to be implemented in hip fractured patients, the assessment and management of nutritional status is pivotal, particularly in subjects older than 65. Nutrition plays a central role in both primary and secondary preventions of fracture. An adequate protein intake improves muscle mass and strength and the intestinal absorption of calcium. Other nutrients with recognized beneficial effects on bone health are calcium, vitamins D, K, and C, potassium, magnesium, folate, and carotenoids. With reference to calcium, results from longitudinal studies showed that the consumption of dairy foods has a protective role against fractures. Moreover, the most recent systematic reviews and meta-analyses and one umbrella review demonstrated that the combination of calcium and vitamin D supplementation significantly reduces hip fracture risk, with presumed higher efficacy in older and institutionalized subjects. Owing to these reasons, the adequate intake of calcium, vitamin D, protein, and other macro and micronutrients has been successfully implemented in the Fracture Liaison Services (FLSs) that represent the most reliable model of management for hip fracture patients. In this narrative review, papers (randomized controlled trials, prospective and intervention studies, and systematic reviews) retrieved by records from three different databases (PubMed, Embase, and Medline) have been analyzed, and the available information on the screening, assessment, and management of nutritional and vitamin D status and calcium intake in patients with hip fractures is presented along with specific prevention and treatment measures.

Abstract
Importance Previous research has found that vegetarian diets are associated with lower bone mineral density and higher risk of fractures, but these studies did not differentiate the quality of the plant-based foods. Objective To examine the association between the quality of plant-based diets (not necessarily vegan but also omnivorous) and hip fracture risk among postmenopausal women in the Nurses' Health Study. Design, Setting, and Participants This cohort study analyzed data from 70 285 postmenopausal women who participated in the US Nurses' Health Study from 1984 through 2014. Data were analyzed from January 1 to July 31, 2023. Main outcomes and Measures Hip fractures were self-reported on biennial questionnaires. Diet was assessed every 4 years using a validated semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. Plant-based diet quality was assessed using 2 previously established indices: the healthful Plant-Based Diet Index (hPDI), for which healthy plant foods (whole grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes, vegetable oils, and tea or coffee) received positive scores, whereas less healthy plant foods (fruit juices, sweetened beverages, refined grains, potatoes, and sweets or desserts) and animal foods received reversed scores; and the unhealthful Plant-Based Diet Index (uPDI), for which positive scores were given to less healthy plant foods and reversed scores to healthy plant and animal foods. Quintile scores of 18 food groups were summed, with a theoretical range for both indices of 18 to 90 (highest adherence). Cox proportional hazards regression with time-varying covariates was used to compute hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% CIs for hip fracture. Results In total, 70 285 participants (mean [SD] age, 54.92 [4.48] years; 100% White women) were included, and 2038 cases of hip fracture were ascertained during the study and for up to 30 years of follow-up. Neither the hPDI (HR for highest vs lowest quintile, 0.97 [95% CI, 0.83-1.14]) nor the uPDI (HR for highest vs lowest quintile, 1.02 [95% CI, 0.87-1.20]) for long-term diet adherence was associated with hip fracture risk. However, when examining recent intake for the highest vs lowest quintiles, the hPDI was associated with 21% lower risk of hip fracture (HR, 0.79 [95% CI, 0.68-0.92]; P = .02 for trend), and the uPDI was associated with 28% higher risk (1.28 [95% CI, 1.09-1.51]; P = .008 for trend). Conclusions and Relevance Findings of this cohort study indicated that long-term adherence to healthful or unhealthful plant-based diets as assessed by hPDI and uPDI scores was not associated with hip fracture risk. Future research should clarify whether the associations observed with recent dietary intake are due to short-term effects of these dietary patterns, reverse causality, or both.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Current research evaluating the association between tea consumption and bone health still has inconsistent findings. MATERIALS AND METHODS The electronic databases of Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were systematically searched from inception until December 2022 to identify eligible studies. The calculation of summary relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) was carried out using random-effects models. I2 statistics and Forest plots were used to assess the heterogeneity of RR values across studies. RESULTS The pooled relative risks for bone health-related outcomes of interest among tea drinkers, compared to non-drinkers, were 0.910 (95% confidence interval 0.845 to 0.980) for fractures, based on 20 studies, 0.332 (0.207-0.457) for BMD (13 studies), 0.800 (0.674-0.950) for osteoporosis (10 studies), and 1.006 (0.876-1.156) for osteopenia (5 studies). Subgroup analysis of locations showed that the pooled relative risks were 0.903 (0.844-0.966) for the hip, 0.735 (0.586-0.922) for the femur, 0.776 (0.610-0.988) for the lumbar, 0.980 (0.942-1.021) for the forearm and wrist, 0.804 (0.567-1.139) for the phalanges, and 0.612 (0.468-0.800) for Ward's triangle. One-stage dose-response analysis revealed that individuals who consumed less than 4.5 cups of tea per day had a lower risk of bone health-related outcomes than those who did not consume tea, with statistically significant results. CONCLUSION There is an association between tea consumption and a reduced risk of fractures, osteoporosis, hip, femur, and lumbar, as well as increased BMD.

Abstract
Previous cohort studies have indicated that consumption of total and animal proteins are related to fracture risk; however, results were inconclusive. This dose-dependent review sought to summarize the earlier evidence regarding the relation between total and animal proteins and fracture risk. We searched Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science until July 2023 for original research articles examining the association of certain types of proteins and the incidence of all fractures in general adults. Summary relative risks (RRs) were calculated using random effects analysis to examine the relation between each certain amount (g/day) increment of total and animal protein and fracture risk. Twenty cohort studies with serious to moderate risk of bias involving 780,322 individuals were included. There was a non-statistically significant relation between intake of animal proteins and dairy products and all fracture risk. However, 43% and 5% decreased incidence of fracture was obtained with total protein (RR, 0.57; 95%CI, 0.36 to 0.93; per 100 g/day) and fish (RR, 0.95; 95%CI, 0.91 to 0.99; per 15 g/day) intake. Every 100 g/day total and animal protein consumption and every 15 g/day fish consumption were linked to 48%, 50%, and 5% lower hip fracture risk. Greater dietary animal protein intake might reduce risk of hip but not fracture at any site. We obtained a lower risk of any or hip fracture with greater total protein (per 100 g/day) and fish (per 15 g/day) intake. No evidence was obtained that higher intake of dairy could decrease risk of fracture.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Recent findings in the influence of dietary patterns, dairy products, beverages and microbiota composition and function on bone health are reviewed and discussed. RECENT FINDINGS Evidence is accumulating on the increased risk of fracture in individuals following a vegan diet. Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials indicates a favourable, though of low amplitude, effect of dairy products on bone mass accrual during childhood and adolescence. Though mostly based on results from observational studies, it seems that dairy product consumption, particularly fermented dairy products, is associated with a lower risk of hip fracture. Regular green tea drinkers may have a lower fracture risk than tea abstainers. Magnesium intake is beneficial for bone health. Prune supplements prevents bone loss in untreated postmenopausal women. This seems to be associated with modification of gut microbiota. SUMMARY This information should help the medical practitioners facing questions from their patients on how to protect bone health through nutrition.

Abstract
Researchers have examined the link between consuming fruit and vegetables and the incidence of fractures for many years. Nevertheless, their findings have been unclear. Furthermore, the dose-dependent relationship has not been examined, and the level of certainty in the evidence was not evaluated. We carried out a dose-dependent meta-analysis examining the relation between fruit and vegetables intake and fracture incidence. PubMed, Web of Sciences, and Scopus were searched until April 2023 for cohort studies evaluating the relation between fruit and vegetables and fracture incidence. Summary relative risks (RRs) were computed from complied data by applying random effects analysis. To examine the level of evidence, we utilized the approach called the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations (GRADE). Ten cohort studies comprising 511,716 individuals were entered. There was a nonsignificant relation between fruit and vegetables, as well as only fruit intake and any fracture risk. In contrast, high versus low analysis presented that vegetables consumption was linked to a 16% decrease in any type of fracture incidence (RR 0.84; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.75 to 0.95; I 2 = 83.1%; n = 6). Also, per one serving/day (200 g/day) increments in vegetables consumption, there was a 14% decline in the fracture risk (RR 0.86; 95% CI, 0.77 to 0.97; I 2 = 84.7%; n = 5; GRADE = moderate). With moderate certainty, a greater consumption of only vegetables, but not total fruit and vegetables or only fruit, might reduce the risk of fracture. These associations were also evident in dose-response analysis. Large intervention trials are demanded to approve our findings. © 2023 The Authors. Abstract
Previous studies on the relationship between dairy consumption and hip fracture risk have reported inconsistent findings. Therefore, we aimed to conduct an algorithmically driven non-linear dose-response meta-analysis of studies assessing dairy intake and risk of developing incident hip fracture. Meta-analysis from PubMed and Google Scholar searches for articles of prospective studies of dairy intake and risk of hip fracture, supplemented by additional detailed data provided by authors. Meta-regression derived dose-response relative risks, with comprehensive algorithm-driven dose assessment across the entire dairy consumption spectrum for non-linear associations. Review of studies published in English from 1946 through December 2021. A search yielded 13 studies, with 486 950 adults and 15 320 fractures. Non-linear dose models were found to be empirically superior to a linear explanation for the effects of milk. Milk consumption was associated with incrementally higher risk of hip fractures up to an intake of 400 g/d, with a 7 % higher risk of hip fracture per 200 g/d of milk (RR 1⋅07, 95 % CI 1⋅05, 1⋅10; P < 0⋅0001), peaking with 15 % higher risk (RR 1⋅15, 95 % CI 1⋅09, 1⋅21, P < 0⋅0001) at 400 g/d versus 0 g/d. Although there is a dose-risk attenuation above 400 g/d, milk consumption nevertheless continued to exhibit elevated risk of hip fracture, compared to zero intake, up to 750 g/d. Meanwhile, the analysis of five cohort studies of yoghurt intake per 250 g/d found a linear inverse association with fracture risk (RR 0⋅85, 95 % CI 0⋅82, 0⋅89), as did the five studies of cheese intake per 43 g/d (~1 serving/day) (RR 0⋅81, 95 % CI 0⋅72, 0⋅92); these studies did not control for socioeconomic status. However, no apparent association between total dairy intake and hip fracture (RR per 250 g/d of total dairy = 0⋅97, 95 % CI 0⋅93, 1⋅004; P = 0⋅079). There were both non-linear effects and overall elevated risk of hip fracture associated with greater milk intake, while lower risks of hip fracture were reported for higher yoghurt and cheese intakes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Meat-free diets may be associated with a higher risk of hip fracture, but prospective evidence is limited. We aimed to investigate the risk of hip fracture in occasional meat-eaters, pescatarians, and vegetarians compared to regular meat-eaters in the UK Biobank, and to explore the role of potential mediators of any observed risk differences. METHODS Middle-aged UK adults were classified as regular meat-eaters (n = 258,765), occasional meat-eaters (n = 137,954), pescatarians (n = 9557), or vegetarians (n = 7638) based on dietary and lifestyle information at recruitment (2006-2010). Incident hip fractures were identified by record linkage to Hospital Episode Statistics up to September 2021. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to estimate associations between each diet group and hip fracture risk, with regular meat-eaters as the reference group, over a median follow-up time of 12.5 years. RESULTS Among 413,914 women, 3503 hip fractures were observed. After adjustment for confounders, vegetarians (HR (95% CI): 1.50 (1.18, 1.91)) but not occasional meat-eaters (0.99 (0.93, 1.07)) or pescatarians (1.08 (0.86, 1.35)) had a greater risk of hip fracture than regular meat-eaters. This is equivalent to an adjusted absolute risk difference of 3.2 (1.2, 5.8) more hip fractures per 1000 people over 10 years in vegetarians. There was limited evidence of effect modification by BMI on hip fracture risk across diet groups (pinteraction = 0.08), and no clear evidence of effect modification by age or sex (pinteraction = 0.9 and 0.3, respectively). Mediation analyses suggest that BMI explained 28% of the observed risk difference between vegetarians and regular meat-eaters (95% CI: 1.1%, 69.8%). DISCUSSION Vegetarian men and women had a higher risk of hip fracture than regular meat-eaters, and this was partly explained by their lower BMI. Ensuring adequate nutrient intake and weight management are therefore particularly important in vegetarians in the context of hip fracture prevention. Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteoporosis is a major public health problem. Dietary inflammatory preference and body mass index (BMI) are emerging factors that tends to affect bone health. There is limited evidence regarding the joint influence of BMI and dietary status on the bone health. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and bone health among adults under different levels of BMI utilizing the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). METHODS Data were collected from 2005-2010, 2013-2014 to 2017-2018 in NHANES. In total, 10,521 participants who aged ≥ 20 years and had complete data for dietary intake interview, bone mineral density (BMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) were included. DII was performed to evaluate the dietary inflammatory potential based on dietary intake interview. We evaluated bone health by femoral neck BMD and BMC measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Weighted multivariable linear regression and BMI-stratified subgroup analysis were performed. RESULTS The average DII score for 10,521 participants was 1.24 ± 0.04, mean femoral neck BMD was 0.82 ± 0.00 g/cm2 and mean BMC was 4.37 ± 0.01 g. In the fully adjusted model, there was a negative correlation between DII with BMD (β = - 0.016, P < 0.001) and BMC (β = - 0.011, P < 0.001) in the most anti-inflammatory diet. Using BMI-stratified subgroup analysis, this correlation became more evident in both the overweight (BMD: β = - 0.024, P < 0.001; BMC: β = - 0.058, P = 0.042) and obese groups (BMD: β = - 0.015, P = 0.049; BMC: β = - 0.009, P = 0.042), while this correlation was opposite in DII tertile 2 (middle DII score) in the underweight group (BMD: β = 0.047, P = 0.038; BMC: β = 0.274, P = 0.010). CONCLUSION Relationship between higher consumption of pro-inflammatory and increased risk of lower BMD and BMC was only existed in overweight and obese participants.

Abstract
This cross-sectional study examines the association between coffee and caffeine consumption and depressive symptoms in postpartum women. In total, 821 postpartum women who met the study's inclusion criteria were interviewed. Data were extracted from the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Coffee consumption and 11 confounding variables were considered and analyzed as baseline data. Weighted logistic regression models were constructed by adjusting the variables, and the odds ratios of total coffee, caffeinated coffee, and decaffeinated coffee were assessed for their impact on depression status. In addition, subgroup analyses were conducted according to race, breastfeeding status, and postpartum period. The results show that generic coffee and caffeinated coffee intake have a potentially protective effect in postpartum women. Drinking more than three cups of caffeinated coffee may lower the risk of postpartum depression, particularly in the 1-2 year postpartum period and in non-breastfeeding women. The association between decaffeinated coffee consumption and postpartum depression remains unclear.

Abstract
Physical activity and diet are essential for maintaining good health and preventing the development of non-communicable diseases, especially in the older adults. One aspect that is often over-looked is the different response between men and women to exercise and nutrients. The body's response to exercise and to different nutrients as well as the choice of foods is different in the two sexes and is strongly influenced by the different hormonal ages in women. The present narrative review analyzes the effects of gender on nutrition and physical activity in older women. Understanding which components of diet and physical activity affect the health status of older women would help target non-pharmacological but lifestyle-related therapeutic interventions. It is interesting to note that this analysis shows a lack of studies dedicated to older women and a lack of studies dedicated to the interactions between diet and physical activity in women. Gender medicine is a current need that still finds little evidence.
