Abstract
Originating from the basic chalcone structure, bis-chalcones are characterized by their dual α,β-unsaturated carbonyl systems and carry a range of biological activities that include antimicrobial, antiviral, antiparasitic, antioxidant, antiproliferative, and chemical reactivities that warrant a review to cover recent progress. Thus, this review presents the significant potential demonstrated by bis-chalcones in various biological applications. For example, compounds 2.3.1 showed excellent antiparasitic activity against leishmania with good selectivity index, and compounds 2.2.1-2.2.3 showed submicromolar activity against SupT1 cells. Compound 2.6.22 stood out in its antiproliferative activity against a panel of 60 different cell lines. Compounds 2.6.4 and 2.6.9 have been shown as submicromolar noncompetitive xanthine oxidase inhibitors. We also present their recent applications in material science, for example, as photosensitizers and photoinitiators, to showcase their broader potential for innovation in both medicinal chemistry and industrial applications.

Abstract
The incorporation of functionalized nanofillers into polymers via photopolymerization approach has gained significant attention in recent years due to the unique properties of the resulting composite materials. Surface modification of nanofillers plays a crucial role in their compatibility and polymerization behavior within the polymer matrix during photopolymerization. This review focuses on the recent developments in surface modification of various nanofillers, enabling their integration into polymer systems through photopolymerization. The review discusses the key aspects of surface modification of nanofillers, including the selection of suitable surface modifiers, such as photoinitiators and polymerizable groups, as well as the optimization of modification conditions to achieve desired surface properties. The influence of surface modification on the interfacial interactions between nanofillers and the polymer matrix is also explored, as it directly impacts the final properties of the nanocomposites. Furthermore, the review highlights the applications of nanocomposites prepared by photopolymerization, such as sensors, gas separation membranes, purification systems, optical devices, and biomedical materials. By providing a comprehensive overview of the surface modification strategies and their impact on the photopolymerization process and the resulting nanocomposite properties, this review aims to inspire new research directions and innovative ideas in the development of high-performance polymer nanocomposites for diverse applications.

Abstract
Photopolymerization is an active research field enabling to polymerize in greener conditions than that performed with traditional thermal polymerization. At present, a great deal of effort is devoted to developing visible light photoinitiating systems. Indeed, the traditional UV photoinitiating systems are currently the focus of numerous safety concerns so alternatives to UV light are being actively researched. However, visible light photons are less energetic than UV photons so the reactivity of the photoinitiating systems should be improved to address this issue. In this field, furane constitutes an interesting candidate for the design of photocatalysts of polymerization due to its low cost and its easy chemical modification. In this review, an overview concerning the design of furane-based photoinitiators is provided. Comparisons with reference systems are also established to demonstrate evidence of the interest of these photoinitiators in innovative structures.

Abstract
Cost-effective, practical, and efficiently performing photosensitive resin composite materials are essential, as the current materials are expensive, lack better alternatives, and do not meet 3D printing standards. In this study, based on orthogonal experiments for photosensitive resin curing, we prepared a free-radical/cationic hybrid photosensitive UV cured resin (UVR) using acrylic ester and epoxy resin as the prepolymers, tripropylenediol diacrylate (TPGDA) as the active diluent, and triaryl sulfonium salt (I-160) and 2,2-dimethyl-α-hydroxy acetophenone (1173) as the photoinitiators, in the optimized formula of acrylic-ester:epoxy-resin:TPGDA:I-160:1173 = 37.5:37.5:20:2.5:2.5. Further, we investigated the effects of polyurethane acrylates (PUA) and Graphene oxide (GO) on the surface morphology, chemical structure, hydrophobicity, mechanical strength, and gelation rate of the hybrid resin. We observed that 20% PUA improved tensile strength to the maximum of 36.89 MPa from 16.42 MPa of the unmodified hybrid resin, whereas 1% GO reduced volume shrinkage to the minimum of 2.89% from 3.73% of the unmodified hybrid resin. These photosensitive resins with higher tensile strength and lower volume shrinkage can be used to synthesize high performance functional materials in the future.

Abstract
Over the past several decades, photopolymerization has become an active research field, and the ongoing efforts to develop new photoinitiating systems are supported by the different applications in which this polymerization technique is involved-including dentistry, 3D and 4D printing, adhesives, and laser writing. In the search for new structures, bis-chalcones that combine two chalcones' moieties within a unique structure were determined as being promising photosensitizers to initiate both the free-radical polymerization of acrylates and the cationic polymerization of epoxides. In this review, an overview of the different bis-chalcones reported to date is provided. Parallel to the mechanistic investigations aiming at elucidating the polymerization mechanisms, bis-chalcones-based photoinitiating systems were used for different applications, which are detailed in this review.

Novel Push–Pull Dyes Derived from 1H-cyclopenta[b]naphthalene-1,3(2H)-dione as Versatile Photoinitiators for Photopolymerization and Their Related Applications: 3D Printing and Fabrication of Photocomposites. Abstract
A series of eleven push–pull chromophores with specific structures have been designed for the free radical polymerization of acrylates, but also for the fabrication of photocomposites and 3D-printed structures. New photoinitiating systems comprising the different push–pull dyes showed excellent photochemical reactivities at 405 nm. Notably, polymerization reactions could be initiated with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which constitute a unique opportunity to promote the free radical polymerization under mild conditions, i.e., low light intensity (e.g., sunlight) and under air. Photopolymerization is an active research field, and push–pull dyes have already been investigated for this purpose. Besides, it remains of crucial interest to investigate new reactive structures capable of efficiently initiating photopolymerization reactions. The plausible potential of these structures to act as efficient photoinitiators in vat photopolymerization (or 3D printing) and fabrication of photocomposites prompts us to select eleven new push–pull dyes to design multi-component photoinitiating systems activable with LEDs emitting at 405 nm. Precisely, a tertiary amine, i.e., ethyl dimethylaminobenzoate (EDB) used as an electron/hydrogen donor and an iodonium salt used as an electron acceptor were selected to behave as powerful co-initiators to construct three-component photoinitiating systems (PISs) with the different push–pull dyes. Among these new PISs, dye 8 and 9-based PISs could efficiently promote the free radical photopolymerization of acrylates upon exposure to a LED emitting at 405 nm also upon sunlight irradiation, highlighting their huge performance. Photoinitiating abilities could be explained on the basis of steady state photolysis experiments. Fluorescence measurements and electron spin resonance (ESR) spin-trapping experiments were also performed to obtain a deeper insight into the chemical mechanisms supporting the polymerization reaction and determine the way the initiating species, i.e., the radicals, are observed. Finally, two investigated dye-based PISs were applied to the fabrications of photocomposites. Three-dimensional patterns with excellent spatial resolutions were generated by the laser writing technique to identify the effects of photopolymerization of acrylates both in the absence and presence of fillers (silica). Interestingly, comparison between the 3D objects fabricated by the PISs/monomer systems and the PISs/monomer/filler photocomposites indicates that the newly designed photocomposites are suitable for practical applications.

Abstract
The photoinduced polymerization of monomers is currently an essential tool in various industries. The photopolymerization process plays an increasingly important role in biomedical applications. It is especially used in the production of dental composites. It also exhibits unique properties, such as a short time of polymerization of composites (up to a few seconds), low energy consumption, and spatial resolution (polymerization only in irradiated areas). This paper describes a short overview of the history and classification of different typical monomers and photoinitiating systems such as bimolecular photoinitiator system containing camphorquinone and aromatic amine, 1-phenyl-1,2-propanedione, phosphine derivatives, germanium derivatives, hexaarylbiimidazole derivatives, silane-based derivatives and thioxanthone derivatives used in the production of dental composites with their limitations and disadvantages. Moreover, this article represents the challenges faced when using the latest inventions in the field of dental materials, with a particular focus on photoinitiating systems based on iodonium salts. The beneficial properties of dental composites cured using initiation systems based on iodonium salts have been demonstrated.
