Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep disorders are among the most common major problems during pregnancy. Most studies on sleep disorders of pregnant women are closely related to adverse birth outcomes. In this study, our aim was to develop and validate a predictive model for the risk of sleep disorders in pregnant women. METHODS A total of 2,467 healthy pregnant women were enrolled and randomly partitioned into a training set and a validation set at a ratio of 7:3. During the variable selection stage, the Pearson's chi-square test was employed to identify variables with a p-value below 0.05, which were then designated as candidate variables for subsequent logistic regression analysis. Concurrently, the LASSO regression technique was utilized to sift through and isolate the most valuable variables. Ultimately, we developed binary Logistic regression models predicated on the Pearson's chi-square test (Model 1) and the LASSO regression (Model 2). The performance of the nomograms was evaluated using the Bootstrap resampling procedure, the sensitivity and specificity of the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC), the area under the ROC curve (AUC), and decision curve analysis (DCA). RESULTS A total of 439 (25.4%) pregnant women in the training set and 208 (28.1%) in the validation set exhibited sleep disorder, respectively. The prediction models shared 6 risk factors (age, anxiety, depression, family functions, degree of pregnancy reaction, pre-pregnancy physical condition). In the Model 1, the sensitivity was 69.4%, and specificity was 59.6%. When pregnancy weeks, residence, only child were included in Model 2, the sensitivity was 82.4% and specificity was 54.8%. In the validation set, the areas under the curve of the Model 1 and Model 2 were 0.678 (0.635, 0.720), and 0.719 (0.678, 0.761), respectively. The risk prediction model of sleep disorders in pregnant women showed that the calibration curve is approximately distributed along the reference line. Decision curve analyses demonstrated a favorable net benefit within the range of the threshold probability in the nomograms. CONCLUSION Model 2 exhibited superior performance, can serve as a convenient and reliable tool for predicting the risk probability of sleep disorders in pregnant women.

Abstract
Background Parent-child separation is one of the adverse childhood experiences, becoming more common due to economic migration worldwide today. However, there is a lack of understanding of the association between this separation during the critical first three years of life and the development of mental health issues in early childhood. This study aimed to determine the association of parent-child separation in the first three years and its specific patterns with mental health problems that emerged at preschool age. Methods We conducted a kindergarten-based parent-reported questionnaire survey in Nanling, Anhui Province, from October 30 to November 3, 2023. Data on parent-child separation in the first three years and its specific patterns concerning parental number, gender, accumulated separation period, and present separation status at preschool age were collected. The parent version of the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) was adopted to assess outcomes of interest, including children's total difficulties, internalizing problems, externalizing problems, and pro-social behaviors. Results A total of 7487 children from eighty-one kindergartens were included, with a mean (SD) age of 4.2 (0.92) years, and 52.3 % were male. After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics, compared to non-separation, parent-child separation within the first three years was significantly and positively associated with preschool-aged children's internalizing problems (β = 0.19, [95 % CI, 0.10-0.28]), externalizing problems (β = 0.24, [95 % CI, 0.12- 0.35]), and total difficulties (β = 0.42, [95 % CI, 0.25-0.59]), but not with pro-social behavior. The associations were significant when separated from either one parent or both parents, whether the separation lasted for less than or more than three years in total, and whether the separation occurred previously or persisted into preschool age. Conclusions Our findings illustrated the association between early parent-child separation and developing mental health in early childhood, indicating potential opportunities for cost-efficient prevention and intervention for the health and development of vulnerable children separated in the highly mobile society to achieve sustainable development.

Abstract
Following the first 1000 days of life that span from conception to two years of age, the next 1000 days of a child's life from 2-5 years of age offer a window of opportunity to promote nurturing and caring environments, establish healthy behaviours, and build on early gains to sustain or improve trajectories of healthy development. This Series paper, the first of a two-paper Series on early childhood development and the next 1000 days, focuses on the transition to the next 1000 days of the life course, describes why this developmental period matters, identifies the environments of care, risks, and protective factors that shape children's development, estimates the number of children who receive adequate nurturing care, and examines whether current interventions are meeting children's needs. Paper 2 focuses on the cost of inaction and the implications of not investing in the next 1000 days. In low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), only 62 million children aged 3 and 4 years (25·4%) currently receive adequate nurturing care during the next 1000 days, leaving 181·9 million children exposed to risks that jeopardise their healthy development. Inputs across nurturing care dimensions of health, nutrition, protection, responsive care, and learning vary substantially across countries. In LMICs, although 86·2% of children have a healthy weight in this period, less than one in three children have access to developmental stimulation or are protected from physical punishment, and only 38·8% have access to early childhood care and education services. Intervention research in LMICs in the next 1000 days is scarce. The continuity of developmentally appropriate nurturing care, coordination across health, education, and protection sectors, and the implementation of interventions to support caregivers and improve the quality of education and care remain top priorities in this period. These sectors play key roles in promoting quality early care and education for this age group, which will help maximise developmental potential and opportunities of children globally and help progress towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Little is known about the normative courses of pregnancy-related anxiety throughout pregnancy and their antecedents. We examined in a large scale pregnancy cohort which potentially distinct trajectories of pregnancy-related anxiety across pregnancy can be identified, and which factors predict these trajectories. METHODS A general sample of pregnant women (n = 2928) from the FinnBrain Birth Cohort participated in this study. Several questionnaires were filled in at 14, 24, and 34 weeks of gestation, including the pregnancy-related anxiety questionnaire-revised as main outcome. Latent Growth Mixture Modeling was applied to identify the trajectories of pregnancy-related anxiety across pregnancy, and t-tests and chi-quare tests were conducted to find antecedents of these trajectories. RESULTS Two distinct trajectories were identified: (1) a low symptoms group, N = 2594 (88.6%), with lower and slightly increasing levels of pregnancy-related anxiety (2) a moderately-high symptoms group, N = 334 (11.4%) reported higher and slightly decreasing levels of anxiety. Correlates of the moderately-high anxious group included a lower monthly income, drinking alcohol or smoking in early pregnancy, more daily hassles and less joy, more early life adversities, younger age, primiparity, single parenthood, using depression medication, and having higher scores on depression and general anxiety. CONCLUSIONS Although the majority of pregnant women fall within a low risk trajectory of pregnancy-related anxiety, another group with consistently higher levels of pregnancy anxiety throughout pregnancy may need more clinical attention, as their high pregnancy-related anxiety scores may indicate a risk profile that includes a variety of general and more pregnancy-specific risk factors, which together can negatively affect fetal and infant development and behavior.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The evidences on the relationship between gestational weight gain rate (GWGR) and children's cognitive and behavioral development have been limited. METHODS A total of 3273 singleton live birth mother-child pairs from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort in China were included in the study. Maternal GWGR was calculated based on the weights measured at multiple antenatal checkups. Children's cognitive and behavioral development were assessed by Chinese version of Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence-Fourth Edition and Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist 1.5-5. Then generalized linear models were performed for analyses. RESULTS In the field of children's cognitive development, excessive GWGR in the second trimester was associated with increased visual space index (VSI), fluid reasoning index (FRI) and full scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ) scores, while excessive GWGR in the third trimester was associated with decreased VSI, working memory index (WMI) and FSIQ scores. In the field of children's behavioral development, excessive GWGR in the second trimester was associated with decreased aggressive behaviors and externalizing problems scores. LIMITATIONS Children's behavioral development was assessed by main caregivers and might cause a certain degree of bias. There might be other potential confounders that we did not take into account. CONCLUSIONS A high GWGR in the second trimester might be beneficial for children's cognitive and behavioral development, while a high GWGR in the third trimester might be harmful.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A growing number of studies have shown that prenatal exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors has effects on fetal growth. The co-exposure of both better reflects real-life exposure patterns. However, no studies have included air pollutants and pregnancy-related anxiety (PrA) as mixtures in the analysis. METHOD Using the birth cohort study method, 576 mother-child pairs were included in the Ma'anshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Evaluate the exposure levels of six air pollutants during pregnancy using inverse distance weighting (IDW) based on the pregnant woman's residential address and air pollution data from monitoring stations. Prenatal anxiety levels were assessed using the PrA Questionnaire. Generalized linear regression (GLR), quantile g-computation (QgC) and bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were used to assess the independent or combined effects of air pollutants and PrA on birth weight for gestational age z-score (BWz). RESULT The results of GLR indicate that the correlation between the six air pollutants and PrA with BWz varies depending on the different stages of pregnancy and pollutants. The QgC shows that during trimester 1, when air pollutants and PrA are considered as a whole exposure, an increase of one quartile is significantly negatively correlated with BWz. The BKMR similarly indicates that during trimester 1, the combined exposure of air pollutants and PrA is moderately correlated with a decrease in BWz. CONCLUSION Using the method of analyzing mixed exposures, we found that during pregnancy, the combined exposure of air pollutants and PrA, particularly during trimester 1, is associated with BWz decrease. This supports the view that prenatal exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors has an impact on fetal growth.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Thyroid function test abnormalities are frequent and associated with the offspring's adverse neurodevelopment. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal thyroid function test abnormalities before 20 gestational weeks and children's cognitive, emotional and behavioural development at 3-6 years of age. PATIENTS AND MEASUREMENTS A total of 2243 mother-child pairs were included in the final analysis. Maternal thyroid function was evaluated retrospectively during the children's preschool period. The serum thyrotrophin, free thyroxine and thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) were detected by chemiluminescence immunoassay during the follow-up period. The neurodevelopmental status of preschoolers aged 3-6 years was evaluated by parental versions of The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Preschool and The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaires. The associations between maternal thyroid function test abnormalities and preschoolers' neurodevelopment were examined using Poisson regression models. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders in Poisson regression analyses, it showed that maternal isolated TPOAb positivity before 20 gestational weeks may be associated with the increased risk of abnormalities in peer problems (odds ratio [OR] = 1.90, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.26, 287). Maternal isolated SCH before 20 gestational weeks was observed to be related with increased risk of abnormalities in inhibition (OR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.37, 5.41), working memory (OR = 1.67, 95% CI: 1.04, 2.70), conduct problems (OR = 1.80, 95% CI: 1.05, 3.09), hyperactivity (OR = 1.94, 95% CI:1.08, 3.49) and total difficulties (OR = 1.94, 95% CI: 1.13, 3.34). Maternal isolated hypothyroxinemia before 20 gestational was observed to be related with increased risk of abnormalities in peer problems (OR = 2.71, 95% CI: 1.17, 6.27). CONCLUSIONS Thyroid function test abnormalities before 20 gestational weeks may be associated with children's neurodevelopment at 3-6 years of age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The fetal immune system and consequent elevated risk of asthma in childhood may be impacted by maternal anxiety during pregnancy. Limited studies have evaluated whether there was a sensitive period and cumulative effect of the relationship between prenatal anxiety and children's asthma. METHODS 3131 mother-child pairs made up the study's sample from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort Study in China. Maternal anxiety status was repeated three times using the pregnancy-related anxiety questionnaire in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Diagnostic information on asthma was collected three times at 24, 36, and 48 months of age. RESULTS After adjusting for confounders, children born to mothers with anxiety in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy all had an elevated risk of total asthma from 12 to 48 months of age. After further adjusting prenatal anxiety in the other trimesters, no association was observed between prenatal anxiety in any trimester and preschoolers' asthma. Children of mothers with persistently high anxiety score trajectory during pregnancy had an elevated risk of total asthma and high prevalence trajectory of asthma. Cumulative effects analysis showed that the more frequent the mother's anxiety, the higher the risk of her offspring developing a high prevalence trajectory of asthma from 12 to 48 months of age. The results of the subgroup analysis by age showed similar associations overall. CONCLUSIONS Maternal antenatal anxiety was associated with an elevated risk of preschool children's asthma, and a possible cumulative effect was observed. Maternal mental health conditions during pregnancy should receive constant attention throughout pregnancy, not just during one period.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has been linked to increased risk for perinatal anxiety and depression among parents, as well as negative consequences for child development. Less is known about how worries arising from the pandemic during pregnancy are related to later child development, nor if resilience factors buffer negative consequences. The current study addresses this question in a prospective longitudinal design. Data was collected from a sub-study (n = 184) of a longitudinal study of pregnant individuals (total n = 1173). During pregnancy (April 17-July 8, 2020) and the early postpartum period (August 11, 2020-March 2, 2021), participants completed online surveys. At 12 months postpartum (June 17, 2021-March 23, 2022), participants completed online surveys and a virtual laboratory visit, which included parent-child interaction tasks. We found more pregnancy-specific pandemic worries were prospectively related to lower levels of child socioemotional development based on parent report (B = - 1.13, SE = .43, p = .007) and observer ratings (B = - 0.13, SE = .07, p = .045), but not to parent-reported general developmental milestones. Parental emotion regulation in the early postpartum period moderated the association between pregnancy-specific pandemic worries and child socioemotional development such that pregnancy-specific pandemic worries did not relate to worse child socioemotional development among parents with high (B = - .02, SE = .10, t = - .14, p = .89) levels of emotion regulation. Findings suggest the negative consequences of parental worry and distress during pregnancy on the early socioemotional development of children in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Results highlight that parental emotion regulation may represent a target for intervention to promote parental resilience and support optimized child development.

Abstract
Human health is affected by various factors such as air pollutants. Exposure to toxic air pollutants is impaired fertility in men and women. The purpose of this review study was investigation of the effect of toxic air pollutants on fertility and birth rate. Databases used to for searched were the PubMed, Web of Science, Springer and Science Direct (Scopus) and Google Scholar. Identify all relevant studies published 1999-2022. In this study, according to databases five hundred articles were retrieved. 33 studies were screened after review and 19 full-text articles entered into the analysis process. Finally, 11 articles were selected in this study. The literature signs a notable health effects from toxic air pollutants and increase risk of infertility in men and women and having a variety of reproductive system cancers such as prostate, bladder, ovary, kidney and uterus. According to the finding toxic air pollutants can increase the risk infertility in men and women, incidence of cancers of reproductive system and decrease the birth rate. Activities that play an important role in reducing the health effects of toxic air pollutants such as infertility in men and women and reducing the population rate of communities are improving the quality of fuel used in the home, car, industries, changing production processes in large industries, installing catalysts to reduce emissions in cars, use more public transportation, plant trees and increase green space per capita, increase public awareness about various effects of toxic air pollutants and protective measures.

Abstract
The impact of prenatal maternal mental health on offspring socioemotional development is substantial and enduring. Existing literature primarily focuses on the effects of psychological distress during pregnancy, emphasizing adverse child outcomes. Recent studies, however, highlight the unique impact of positive maternal mental health on child outcomes. To elucidate the differential associations of maternal psychological distress and positive mental health during pregnancy with child outcomes, we conducted a systematic literature search and random-effects meta-analyses on studies investigating the associations of prenatal maternal mental health with child socioemotional development. Our analyses, comprising 74 studies with 321,966 mother-child dyads across 21 countries, revealed significant associations of prenatal psychological distress with both adverse and positive child socioemotional outcomes. Notably, the effect sizes for the association of psychological distress with positive child outcomes were smaller compared to adverse outcomes. Positive prenatal mental health, on the other hand, was significantly associated with positive socioemotional outcomes but not adverse outcomes. This meta-analysis highlights the independence of negative and positive prenatal mental health constructs and their distinct relationships with child socioemotional development. The findings underscore the importance of considering the positive spectrum of maternal mental health and developmental outcomes to enhance our understanding of prenatal influences on child development. Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiological studies have identified maternal antenatal anxiety and several adverse birth outcomes, but limited studies have focused on the relationship with the long-term physical growth of children. The study aimed to assess the influence of maternal pregnancy-related anxiety on physical growth in children at different exposure periods during pregnancy. METHODS 3,154 mother-child pairs were included based on the Ma'anshan birth cohort study. Maternal prenatal anxiety was obtained by administering a questionnaire using the pregnancy-related anxiety questionnaire (PRAQ) scale during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy. Body fat (BF) (48 to 72 months) and Body Mass Index (BMI) (birth to 72 months) were collected repeatedly for children. Group-based trajectory models were applied to fit the different trajectories of BMI and BF. RESULTS Maternal anxiety in the 2nd (OR = 0.81; 95% CI: 0.68 to 0.98; P < 0.025) and 3rd (OR = 0.80; 95% CI: 0.67 to 0.97; P = 0.020) trimesters was associated with a decreased risk of rapid weight gain (RWG) in the first year of life. Children aged 48 to 72 months of mothers with anxiety in the 3rd trimester had lower BMI (β = -0.161; 95% CI, -0.293 to -0.029; P = 0.017) and BF (β = -0.190; 95% CI, -0.334 to -0.046; P = 0.010), and these children were less likely to develop a very high BMI trajectory (OR = 0.54; 95% CI: 0.34 to 0.84; P = 0.006), and a high BF trajectory (OR = 0.72; 95% CI: 0.53 to 0.99; P = 0.043). Similar associations were found between maternal anxiety in both 2nd and 3rd trimesters and children's physical growth. CONCLUSIONS Offspring of mothers with prenatal anxiety in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters predicts poorer growth in infancy and preschool age. Early improvement and treatment of prenatal anxiety could benefit physical health and development in early childhood.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pregnancy-related anxiety (PRA) is a distinct type of anxiety from general anxiety, affects many pregnant women, and is correlated with poor behavioral development in children. However, the mediation paths were unclear. METHODS A total of 2032 mother-infant pairs from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort were included in the current study. Maternal PRA was assessed in the second and third trimesters. Children's behavioral development was evaluated at the age of 18 months. In addition, information on parenting styles and breastfeeding methods was obtained at postpartum. Multivariate regression and structural equation modeling were used to examine the associations between maternal PRA and children's behavioral development. RESULTS Significant intercorrelations were found between maternal PRA, the potential mediators (parenting styles and breastfeeding methods), and 18-month-old children's ASQ scores. Parenting styles played an intermediary role in the relationship between maternal PRA and children's behavioral development (β = 0.030, 95 % confidence interval: 0.017-0.051), and the mediating effect accounted for 29.1 % of the total effect. However, breastfeeding methods did not mediate the link between PRA and children's behavior. LIMITATIONS Depression and postpartum anxiety were not controlled for in our analysis, which left us unable to estimate the independent impact of PRA on children's behavior. CONCLUSIONS Parenting rather than breastfeeding is the mediating factor of behavioral problems in children caused by PRA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Isolated maternal hypothyroxinemia (IMH) and pregnancy-related anxiety may increase the risk of offspring's emotional and behavioral problems, but little is known about their potential interactive effect on preschoolers' internalizing and externalizing problems. METHODS We conducted a large prospective cohort study in Ma'anshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital between May 2013 and September 2014. There were a total of 1372 mother-child pairs from the Ma'anshan birth cohort (MABC) included in this study. IMH was defined as the thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level within the normal reference range (2.5-97.5th percentile) and the free thyroxine (FT4) level below the 2.5th percentile, and negative TPOAb. The pregnancy-related anxiety questionnaire (PRAQ) was used to assess women's pregnancy-related anxiety status in the first (1-13 weeks), second (14-27 weeks) and third (after 28 weeks) trimesters of pregnancy. The Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL/1.5-5) was used to assess preschoolers' internalizing and externalizing problems. RESULTS Preschoolers born of mothers with IMH and anxiety had an increased risk of anxious/depressed (OR = 6.40, 95% CI 1.89-21.68), somatic complaints (OR = 2.69, 95% CI 1.01-7.20), attention problems (OR = 2.95, 95% CI 1.00-8.69) and total problems (OR = 3.40, 95% CI 1.60-7.21). Particularly, mothers with IMH and anxiety was associated with an increased risk of preschool girls' anxious/depressed (OR = 8.14, 95% CI 1.74-38.08), withdrawn (OR = 7.03, 95% CI 2.25-21.92), internalizing problems (OR = 2.66, 95% CI 1.00-7.08), and total problems (OR = 5.50, 95% CI 2.00-15.10). CONCLUSIONS IMH and pregnancy-related anxiety during pregnancy may synergistically increase the risk of internalizing and externalizing problems in preschooler children. This interaction is distinct in internalizing problems of preschool girls.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has been linked to increased risk for perinatal anxiety and depression among parents, as well as negative consequences for child development. Less is known about how worries arising from the pandemic during pregnancy are related to later child development, nor if resilience factors buffer negative consequences. The current study addresses this question in a prospective longitudinal design. Data was collected from a sub-study ( n = 184) of a longitudinal study of pregnant individuals (total n = 1,173). During pregnancy (April 17-July 8, 2020) and the early postpartum period (August 11, 2020-March 2, 2021), participants completed online surveys. At 12 months postpartum (June 17, 2021-March 23, 2022), participants completed online surveys and a virtual laboratory visit, which included parent-child interaction tasks. We found more pregnancy-specific pandemic worries were prospectively related to lower levels of child socioemotional development based on parent report (B=-1.13, SE = .43, p = .007) and observer ratings (B=-0.13, SE = .07, p = .045), but not to parent-reported general developmental milestones. Parental emotion regulation in the early postpartum period moderated the association between pregnancy-specific pandemic worries and child socioemotional development such that pregnancy-specific pandemic worries did not related to worse child socioemotional development among parents with high (B=-.02, SE = .10, t=-.14, p = .89) levels of emotion regulation. Findings suggest the negative consequences of parental worry and distress during pregnancy on the early socioemotional development of children in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract
AbstractThis study examined whether pregnant women alter their alcohol consumption upon pregnancy awareness and any additive effect of a maternal history of child abuse and pregnancy-related anxiety in predicting antenatal alcohol consumption. Pregnant women (N = 548, M = 31.44, SD = 4.58) completed an online survey consisting of the Pregnancy-related Anxiety Scale, Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire, questions on alcohol consumption and demographics. The Wilcoxon test examined difference scores between pre-pregnancy awareness and post-awareness drinking. More women reduced or ceased drinking after pregnancy awareness (M = 0.15, SD = 1.03) than before pregnancy recognition (M = 3.12, SD = 3.91). Only two women increased their alcohol consumption, with 140 reporting no change. In the hierarchical regression analysis, child abuse was not significant in the model, whereas pregnancy-related anxiety predicted alcohol consumption, with pre-pregnancy drinking the strongest predictor. There was no significant interaction effect between pregnancy-related anxiety and child abuse. While limited by a cross-sectional design and single questions to assess alcohol intake, our findings are consistent with extant literature. Findings related to child abuse were not significant, and likely due to low prevalence in the sample, Despite this, we further established that pregnancy-related anxiety remains a significant predictor of antenatal drinking regardless of how much alcohol a woman may consume pre-pregnancy. This relationship may be explained by drinking used to cope with pregnancy-related anxieties. While current guidelines recommend alcohol screening, many women may not accurately report their alcohol intake screening for pregnancy-related anxiety may provide an avenue to identify women more at risk of drinking during pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies on the gender-specific effect of PrA on children's emotional and behavioral development are limited. Lack of PrA data on the entire pregnancy had caused difficulties in identifying the key time window and cumulative effects. METHODS Based on Ma'anshan Birth Cohort in China, mothers at pregnancy and children followed up to 4 years of age were tested using the PrA questionnaire and the Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) 1.5-5. Finally, 1699 mother-child pairs were included in the study and regression models were developed for analysis. RESULTS Children of mothers with PrA are at significantly elevated risk for abnormal mood/behavior at preschool age. Girls seemed to be more sensitive to maternal PrA than boys, mainly manifested in internalizing problems; The third trimester of pregnancy might be a critical time window when maternal PrA affected children's internalizing problems; Longer the duration women had PrA during pregnancy, more possibilities their children would have to develop internalizing and externalizing problems. LIMITATIONS The PrA questionnaire may be different from PrA questionnaires in other countries such as due to different cultural contexts. Findings need to be interpreted with more caution. Factors such as maternal postpartum depression and care practices of nursing staff were not considered. No data were collected on disease as well as caregiver emotional status, which also impacts the reporting and identification of emotional/behavioral problems in children. CONCLUSIONS Gender-specific and cumulative effect of PrA on preschoolers' emotional/behavioral development is observed. The third trimester of pregnancy might be the critical time window.

Abstract
CONTEXT Thyroid hormones are essential for fetal brain development. The potential effects of maternal gestational thyroid dysfunction on offspring neuropsychological development remain inconclusive. OBJECTIVE This work aimed to estimate effects of maternal thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy on offspring neuropsychological development in the first 2 years. METHODS We prospectively examined 1903 mothers and their children from the Shanghai Birth Cohort. Thyroid hormones were assessed at about 12 gestational weeks. Maternal thyroid function was classified into 7 categories: euthyroid, overt/subclinical hyperthyroidism, overt/subclinical hypothyroidism, hyperthyroxinemia, and hypothyroxinemia. Neuropsychological development was assessed by the Ages and Stages Questionnaire at age 6 months, and Bayley Scales at age 24 months. RESULTS Compared with children of euthyroid mothers, maternal overt hypothyroidism was associated with 7.0 points (95% CI, 1.7-12.4) lower scores in personal-social domain in girls aged 6 months, 7.3 points (95% CI, 2.0-12.6) lower in motor domain, and 7.7 points (95% CI, 1.1-14.2) lower social-emotional scores in boys at age 24 months; maternal subclinical hypothyroidism was associated with 6.5 points (95% CI, 1.0-12.1) poorer social-emotional domain in boys at age 6 months, and 7.4 points (95% CI, 0.1-14.8) poorer adaptive behavior domain in boys at age 24 months; maternal hypothyroxinemia was associated with 9.3 points (95% CI, 3.5-15.1) lower motor scores in boys at age 24 months; and maternal subclinical hyperthyroidism was associated with 6.9 points (95% CI, 0.1-13.7) lower language scores in girls at age 24 months. CONCLUSION Maternal overt hypothyroidism, subclinical hypothyroidism/hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroxinemia during early pregnancy were associated with weakened neuropsychological development in infancy, and some effects may be sex specific.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence suggests that pregnancy-related anxiety (PRA) has adverse impacts on maternity health and infant development. A substantial body of literature has documented the important influence of family function, perceived social support and resilience on PRA. However, research identifying the mediating mechanisms underlying this relationship in China are still lacking. Therefore, the current study aimed to investigate the prevalence of PRA under the three-child policy in China, and also explore the interrelationships among perceived social support, family function, resilience, and PRA. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, a convenient sampling method was used to select 579 pregnant women who underwent prenatal examination at the maternity outpatient departments of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University in China from December 2021 to April 2022. Participants were required to complete the following questionnaires: the demographic form, the Chinese Pregnancy-related Anxiety scale, the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the APGAR Family Care Index Scale, and Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized to examine the rudimentary relationship among the study variables. Bootstrapping analyses in the structural equation modeling were applied to identify the significance of indirect effects. RESULTS There were 41.4% of pregnant Chinese women indicating PRA. Correlational analyses indicated that perceived social support, family function and resilience were negatively associated with PRA (r = - 0.47, P < 0.01; r = - 0.43, P < 0.01; r = - 0.37, P < 0.01, respectively). The results of bootstrapping analyses demonstrated significant indirect effects of perceived social support (β = - 0.098, 95% CI [- 0.184, - 0.021]) and family function (β = - 0.049, 95% CI [- 0.103, - 0.011]) on PRA via resilience. CONCLUSIONS Chinese pregnant women are suffering from high levels of PRA. Better family function and perceived social support might reduce the occurrence of PRA, as well as by the mediating effects of resilience. Healthcare providers must be concerned about PRA and perform corresponding actions to reduce it. By strengthening social support and improving family function, antenatal care providers could effectively reduce or prevent PRA. And more importantly, implementing resilience-promoting measures are also essential to relieve anxiety and support mental health in pregnant women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Perinatal anxiety is associated with adverse outcomes for women and their infants. Women in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) may be at higher risk of perinatal anxiety. We aimed to systematically review and synthesise the evidence on prevalence of perinatal anxiety in LMIC. METHOD We searched MEDLINE, Embase, PscyhINFO, Global Health and Web of Science to identify studies assessing prevalence of perinatal anxiety in LMIC. Studies published since January 2016 were included. Screening and data extraction was conducted independently by two reviewers. Pooled prevalence estimates were calculated using random-effect meta-analyses and sources of heterogeneity explored through subgroup analyses and meta-regression. RESULTS We screened 9494 titles and abstracts, reviewed 700 full-texts and included 54 studies in the systematic review and meta-analysis. The pooled prevalence of self-reported anxiety symptoms was 29.2% (95%CI 24.5-34.2; I2 98.7%; 36 studies; n = 28,755) antenatally and 24.4% (95%CI 16.2-33.7; I2 98.5%; 15 studies; n = 6370) postnatally. The prevalence of clinically-diagnosed anxiety disorder was 8.1% (95%CI 4.4-12.8; I2 88.1% 5 studies; n = 1659) antenatally and 16.0% (95% CI 13.5-18.9; n = 113) postnatally. LIMITATIONS Our search was limited to studies published since January 2016 in order to update a previous review on this topic. CONCLUSION Perinatal anxiety represents a significant burden in LMIC, with one in four women experiencing symptoms during pregnancy or postpartum. Research remains lacking in a significant proportion of LMIC, particularly in the lowest income countries. Further research should guide application of screening tools in clinical settings to identify women with anxiety disorders in order to provide appropriate treatment.

Abstract
CONTEXT Maternal thyroid hormone trajectories are a better predictor of offspring's neurodevelopment than hormone levels in single trimester of pregnancy. Programming effect of uterine hormonal environment on offspring's health is usually sex-specific. OBJECTIVE To examine the sex-specific effect of thyroid hormone trajectories on preschoolers' behavioral development. DESIGN Based on Ma' anshan Birth Cohort in China, pregnant women were recruited at their first antenatal checkup from May 2013 to September 2014. SETTING Ma' anshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital in China. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS 1860 mother-child pairs were included in the analysis. Children were followed up at age of 4. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Maternal thyroid hormones [thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), free thyroxine (FT4)] and thyroid peroxidase antibody in the first, second, and third trimesters of pregnancy were retrospectively assayed. Preschoolers' behavioral development was assessed by Achenbach Child Behavior Checklist/1.5~5. RESULTS Maternal TSH and FT4 levels were respectively fitted into high, moderate, and low trajectories. In boys, maternal high TSH trajectory was related to withdrawn [odds ratio (OR) = 2.01, 95% CI: 1.16, 3.50) and externalizing problems (OR = 2.69, 95% CI: 1.22, 5.92), and moderate TSH trajectory was associated with aggressive behavior (OR = 3.76, 95% CI: 1.16, 12.23). Maternal high FT4 trajectory was associated with anxious/depressed (OR = 2.22, 95% CI: 1.08, 4.56) and total problems (OR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.13, 2.66), and low FT4 trajectory was associated with aggressive behavior (OR = 4.17, 95% CI: 1.22, 14.24). CONCLUSIONS Maternal thyroid hormone trajectories impact preschool boys' behavioral development.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The perinatal period is often characterized by specific fear, worry, and anxiety concerning the pregnancy and its outcomes, referred to as pregnancy-related anxiety. Pregnancy-related anxiety is uniquely associated with negative maternal and child health outcomes during pregnancy, at birth, and early childhood; as such, it is increasingly studied. We examined how pregnancy-related anxiety is measured, where measures were developed and validated, and where pregnancy-related anxiety has been assessed. We will use these factors to identify potential issues in measurement of pregnancy-related anxiety and the geographic gaps in this area of research.
Methods
We searched the Africa-Wide, CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO; PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science Core Collection, SciELO Citation Index, and ERIC databases for studies published at any point up to 01 August 2020 that assessed pregnancy-related anxiety. Search terms included pregnancy-related anxiety, pregnancy-related worry, prenatal anxiety, anxiety during pregnancy, and pregnancy-specific anxiety, among others. Inclusion criteria included: empirical research, published in English, and the inclusion of any assessment of pregnancy-related anxiety in a sample of pregnant women. This review is registered on PROSPERO (CRD42020189938).
Results
The search identified 2904 records; after screening, we retained 352 full-text articles for consideration, ultimately including 269 studies in the review based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In total, 39 measures of pregnancy-related anxiety were used in these 269 papers, with 18 used in two or more studies. Less than 20% of the included studies (n = 44) reported research conducted in low- and middle-income country contexts. With one exception, all measures of pregnancy-related anxiety used in more than one study were developed in high-income country contexts. Only 13.8% validated the measures for use with a low- or middle-income country population.
Conclusions
Together, these results suggest that pregnancy-related anxiety is being assessed frequently among pregnant people and in many countries, but often using tools that were developed in a context dissimilar to the participants’ context and which have not been validated for the target population. Culturally relevant measures of pregnancy-related anxiety which are developed and validated in low-income countries are urgently needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUD We have recently reported that maternal prenatal pregnancy-related anxiety predicts preschoolers' emotional and behavioral development in a gender-dependent manner. This study aims to test for this gender-specific effect in a different cohort and investigate whether the gender difference was specific to placental methylation of genes regulating glucocorticoids. METHODS A total of 2405 mother-child pairs from the Ma'anshan Birth Cohort Study were included in present study. The maternal pregnancy-related anxiety symptoms were evaluated with the Pregnancy-Related Anxiety Questionnaire in the third trimester of pregnancy. Child neurobehavior was assessed with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire at 4 years old. Placental methylation of FKBP5, NR3C1 and HSD11B2 genes was quantified using the MethylTarget approach in 439 pregnant women. After exploratory factor analysis, the associations between methylation factor scores and pregnancy-related anxiety and child neurobehavior were examined using logistic regression analysis. RESULTS After controlling for confounding factors, pregnancy-related anxiety in the third trimester of pregnancy increased the risk of hyperactivity only in boys and emotional symptoms only in girls. Decreased scores of the factor characterized by FKBP5 methylation were associated with maternal pregnancy-related anxiety only in boys. Furthermore, increased scores of the factors characterized by NR3C1 and HSD11B2 methylation were associated with hyperactivity (NR3C1: adjusted OR = 1.80, 95%CI = 1.15-2.83) and emotional symptoms (HSD11B2: adjusted OR = 0.53, 95%CI = 0.29-0.97; NR3C1: adjusted OR = 1.64, 95%CI = 1.03-2.59) only in boys. However, the scores of the factor characterized by FKBP5, NR3C1 and HSD11B2 did not mediate the relationship between maternal pregnancy-related anxiety and preschoolers' emotional symptoms and hyperactivity. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggested that pregnancy-related anxiety in the third trimester of pregnancy predicted preschoolers' emotional symptoms and hyperactivity in a gender-dependent manner. Although we did not find the mediation role of the placental methylation of genes regulating glucocorticoids, we found it was associated with both maternal pregnancy-related anxiety and preschoolers' emotional symptoms and hyperactivity in a gender-dependent manner.

Abstract
Child sleep disorders are increasingly prevalent and understanding early predictors of sleep problems, starting in utero, may meaningfully guide future prevention efforts. Here, we investigated whether prenatal exposure to maternal psychological stress is associated with increased sleep problems in toddlers. We also examined whether fetal brain connectivity has direct or indirect influence on this putative association. Pregnant women underwent fetal resting-state functional connectivity MRI and completed questionnaires on stress, worry, and negative affect. At 3-year follow-up, 64 mothers reported on child sleep problems, and in the subset that have reached 5-year follow-up, actigraphy data (N = 25) has also been obtained. We observe that higher maternal prenatal stress is associated with increased toddler sleep concerns, with actigraphy sleep metrics, and with decreased fetal cerebellar-insular connectivity. Specific mediating effects were not identified for the fetal brain regions examined. The search for underlying mechanisms of the link between maternal prenatal stress and child sleep problems should be continued and extended to other brain areas.
