Abstract
BACKGROUND Pediatric lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are a set of common childhood problems. Community-level interventions that target behavioral change among children with LUTS can improve symptoms outside of the clinic environment. Parents, navigating the home and school environments, are key in supporting healthy bladder behaviors. Thus, we asked parents about their perceptions and barriers related to pediatric bladder health. METHODS English-speaking parents (n = 30) of children ages 5-10 years with and without LUTS were interviewed. Transcripts were coded iteratively by two independent coders using deductive and inductive approaches that emphasized consensus coding and peer debriefing. RESULTS Ninety-three percent of participants were women, 50% were 30-39 years old, and 60% held a graduate degree. Parents identified school-, classroom-, and child-based barriers to bladder health. These included the bathroom environment, restrictive policies for bathroom use, and anxiety on how and when to use the bathroom. CONCLUSIONS Addressing school-, classroom-, and child-based barriers is necessary to promote healthy bladder habits among children in the school environment and beyond. Recommended school-based interventions include bathroom use and sanitation policies that support students' voiding needs, teachers' professional development, and school readiness initiatives. Limitations include participation of English-speaking parents only.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE As key stakeholders in educational settings, teachers' awareness on Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) will ultimately enhance its management in schools and community. This study aimed to assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on UTIs among teachers in Sri Lanka. MATERIALS AND METHODS Conveniently selected 373 school teachers were assessed using a pre-tested questionnaire. Each of the individual was scored and categorized as either satisfactory or poor. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were performed to describe the outcomes. RESULTS Around 80% of respondents demonstrated awareness regarding the microbial origin of UTIs, while 42% possessed knowledge of women's increased susceptibility to UTIs. Over 90% of participants had favorable attitudes toward drinking adequate amounts of water, personal hygiene, and consulting doctors for UTI symptoms. Each inquiry demonstrated significant disparities between individuals with satisfactory and poor attitudes (p = 0.000), with over 95% adhered to effective hygiene practices as a preventive measure against UTIs. The demographics of the participants did not show any significance over the KAP results of the study (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The study revealed satisfactory levels of awareness and favorable attitudes among respondents on UTIs. However, there is a further need for increased awareness, specifically regarding the risk factors associated with UTIs.

Abstract
Introduction Pediatric lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are highly prevalent in neurologically healthy school-aged children. However, no evidence-based programs exist to prevent or treat LUTS in the community setting. To address this, we established the first community advisory board (CAB) that aims to identify individual and societal structures impacting pediatric bladder health in Northern California's Bay Area and co-design culturally relevant bladder health interventions. Methods Probability and non-probability sampling methods were used to recruit community stakeholders to the CAB. Our final CAB comprised of two parents, two community health workers, one educator, one pediatric urology registered nurse, and one pediatrician. The CAB met quarterly during the 1-year study period. Results Bi-directional feedback identified community-level barriers to bladder health, particularly in the school environment, and the need for tailored resources to teach children and families about healthy bladder behaviors. Discussion The CAB co-designed school-based bladder health interventions, including bladder health posters, and provided feedback on three school-based research study proposals. The CAB will continue to guide and inform future community-engaged research efforts.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to better understand the role of school bathrooms in shaping the menstrual experiences of adolescents in the U.S.A. The participants were Black and Latina, low-income adolescent girls (15–19) and adults interacting closely with youth in three U.S.A. cities (Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City). Data collection methods included: (1) Participatory Methodologies (PM) sessions with adolescent girls ( n = 73); (2) In-depth interviews (IDI) with adolescent girls ( n = 12); and (3) Key Informant Interviews (KII) with adults ( n = 23). Malterud’s “systematic text condensation,” an inductive thematic analysis method, was utilized to analyze the various data types (field notes, in-depth interviews, drawings). Key findings include, one, that menstruating girls experience embarrassment and a need for secrecy when accessing school bathrooms; two, the social and physical environments of school bathrooms, including poor design and maintenance, heighten girls’ discomfort, especially while menstruating; and three, school policies restricting students’ bathroom access are problematic for many menstruating students, especially those experiencing heavy and/or unpredictable bleeding. Schools and policymakers need to consider holistic approaches when addressing the menstrual needs of adolescents in U.S.A. schools, including better prioritizing issues related to menstrual stigma, school bathroom design and bathroom access policies.

Abstract
Bathroom access and use in conjunction with biological urge to void is an important part of optimal bladder health. School settings are uniquely positioned to influence the development of bladder habits. The aim of this study was to identify barriers and facilitators to high school bathroom use for adolescent women. A qualitative study design was used to conduct semi-structured interviews focused on experiences with bathroom use while at school. Thirty adolescent women were interviewed, and transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis methods. Barriers included unpleasant bathroom environments, lack of privacy, and school/teacher policies. Facilitators included clean, private bathrooms and menstruation. Improving bathroom cleanliness, privacy, and eliminating policies aimed at controlling bathroom access may reduce barriers to bathroom use. School nurses have a unique role in educating teachers, administrators, and students about the importance of clean bathrooms and policies that support bathroom use in conjunction with biological urge.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) are still important for both children and pediatric urologists. Urotherapy is recommended in LUTD treatment management. In our country, all citizens under the age of 20 were banned from going out of their homes due to Covid-19 and the homeschooling system has been adopted The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of lockdown and homeschooling on the effectiveness of urotherapy used for LUTD treatment. METHODS 83 patients were included in the study group. Besides 306 patients were determined as the control group (pre-Covid). The patients in the study group and the control group were compared in terms of improvement in Dysfunctional voiding and incontinence scoring system (DVISS), quality of life scores, bladder diary, Bristol stool scale, and treatment responses at 3rd and 6th months. RESULTS The study group and control group were compared in terms of DVISS, voiding frequency and incontinence in the voiding diary, quality of life score, and Bristol stool scale at admission visit and the group characteristics were similar. During the 6th month visit, the mean DVISS of the study group was found to be significantly lower (7.12 ± 3.48; 8.58 ± 4.06 respectively (p 0.002)). Daily voiding frequency was similar in the study group and the control group during the 2nd and 3rd visit. The study group's mean number of daily incontinence was significantly lower at visit 3 (0.57 ± 0.9; 0.94 ± 0.27, respectively (p 0.02).After six months of treatment, 13.3% of the study group patients had a complete response, 44.6% had a partial response, whereas 42.2% non-responders. In the control group, the response rates were as 5.9%, 39.2% and 54.9% respectively (p 0.02). CONCLUSIONS LUTD is still very common in pediatric urology. Standard urotherapy is widely used in treatment management. According to our results, the success of standard urotherapy increases with lockdown and homeschooling. We have shown that the success of standard urotherapy can be improved by regulating environmental conditions. In terms of LUTD management, environmental conditions can be regulated to provide a better quality of life and a better cure in a more economical way.

Abstract
AIMS Although lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) may occur at different periods during the life course of women, a little research on LUTS has adopted a life course perspective. The purpose of this conceptual paper is to demonstrate how life course theory and life course epidemiology can be applied to study bladder health and LUTS trajectories. We highlight conceptual work from the Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Research Consortium to enhance the understanding of life course concepts. METHODS Consortium members worked in transdisciplinary teams to generate examples of how life course concepts may be applied to research on bladder health and LUTS in eight prioritized areas: (a) biopsychosocial ecology of stress and brain health; (b) toileting environment, access, habits, and techniques; (c) pregnancy and childbirth; (d) physical health and medical conditions; (e) musculoskeletal health; (f) lifestyle behaviors; (g) infections and microbiome; and (h) hormonal status across the life span. RESULTS Life course concepts guided consortium members' conceptualization of how potential risk and protective factors may influence women's health. For example, intrapartum interventions across multiple pregnancies may influence trajectories of bladder health and LUTS, illustrating the principle of life span development. Consortium members also identified and summarized methodologic and practical considerations in designing life course research. CONCLUSIONS This paper may assist researchers from a variety of disciplines to design and implement research identifying key risk and protective factors for LUTS and bladder health across the life course of women. Results from life course research may inform health promotion programs, policies, and practices.

Abstract
The World Health Organization recognizes access to clean and safe toilets as crucial for public health. This study explored U.S. adolescent and adult cisgender women's lived experiences accessing toilets in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. As part of the Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (PLUS) Research Consortium, we conducted 44 focus groups with female participants (n = 360; ages 11-93). Focus groups were stratified by age (11-14, 15-17, 18-25, 26-44, 45-64, 65+) and conducted across 7 geographically diverse U.S. sites from July 2017-April 2018. Using a transdisciplinary approach, we conducted conventional qualitative coding informed by our PLUS conceptual framework and used content analysis processes to identify salient themes. Across settings, toilet access was restricted by "gatekeepers" (i.e., individuals who control access to toilets). In contrast, self-restricting toilet use (deciding not to use the toilet despite biologic need to urinate) was based on internalized norms to prioritize school and job responsibilities over urination. In public spaces, self-restricting use was largely in response to lack of cleanliness. Across the life course, participants perceived gender disparities in the ability to easily access public toilets. Further research is needed to determine if and how these factors impact bladder health across the life course.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Scientific advancements have led to enhanced clarity about the interrelationship between urinary tract pathology and functional bowel disturbances. The present article will review the current literature regarding the cause, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of lower urinary tract dysfunction and abnormal bowel habits in young and adolescent girls. RECENT FINDINGS Complex neurological, physiological mechanisms and functional behaviors exist that contribute to the development of coexisting urinary symptoms and defecatory disorders in young and adolescent girls. Bladder bowel dysfunction (BBD) in childhood and adolescence is carried into adulthood creating a lifetime health burden. SUMMARY Practitioners should be aware and actively screen for conditions mimicking BBD with time-efficient and effective history-taking and physical exams that reduce anxiety and fear. The present review provides guide to comprehensive treatment strategies for managing complex pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence, defecatory disorders, pelvic and perineal pain, and constipation. More research is needed to elucidate pathophysiology and optimal treatment strategies of the BBD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES The aims of the study were as follows: (1) examine fluid intake and urinary hydration markers of children in Greece, (2) determine the calculated relative risk of hypohydration in children who did not meet the recommendations for daily water intake provided by the Institute of Medicine and the European Food Safety Authority compared with those who did and (3) analyze the efficacy of the recommendations as a method to achieve euhydration in children. SUBJECTS/METHODS One hundred and fifty Greek boys and girls (age 9-13) recorded their fluid intake for 2 consecutive days. A 24-h urine collection was obtained during the second day. Fluid intake records were analyzed for total water intake from fluids (TWI-F), and urine samples were analyzed for osmolality, color, specific gravity and volume. Urine osmolality ⩾800 mmol/kg H2O was defined as hypohydration. RESULTS Water intake from fluids was 1729 (1555-1905) and 1550 (1406-1686) ml/d for boys and girls, respectively. Prevalence of hypohydration was 33% (44% of boys, 23% of girls). Children who failed to meet TWI-F recommendations demonstrated a risk of hypohydration that was 1.99-2.12 times higher than those who met recommendations (P⩽0.01). Boys between 9 and 13 years displayed urine osmolality of 777 (725-830) mmol/kg, and urine specific gravity of 1.021 (1.019-1.022), which was higher than those in girls between 9-13 years (P⩽0.015), and >27% were classified as hypohydrated despite meeting water intake recommendations. CONCLUSIONS Failure to meet TWI-F guidelines increased calculated relative risk of hypohydration in children. Boys between 9 and 13 years are at greater hazard regardless of meeting guidelines and may require greater water intake to avoid elevated urine concentration and ensure adequate hydration.

Abstract
Children's use of the toilet at school, although rarely explored, is an important facet of school experience with consequences for physical and psychological health. A mixed methods study investigated views of 25 children (4-5 years) regarding potential stressors in the first school year, including views of toileting, in Dublin, Ireland. Despite very positive responses to school, most responses to toileting (15 of 25) were mixed or negative. Although some liked to go, or noted the toilets were clean, most indicated delayed toilet use ("bursting" to go) and ambivalent or negative experiences such as fear of not identifying the right toilet, fear of being alone, lack of privacy, and potential bullying. Many children did not expect to receive help from the teacher. As delaying toilet use can have lasting health consequences, teacher-nurse collaboration could be used to develop whole-school policies to support children's early adjustment in this sensitive area of functioning.
