Abstract
BACKGROUND Serum neurofilament light chain (sNFL) is a blood-based marker of neuroaxonal damage increasingly used in neurological research. Although sNFL has been linked to systemic aging and chronic disease, its relationship with bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. METHODS We analyzed data from 1,344 participants aged ≥ 20 years in the 2013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Serum sNFL concentrations were measured using a high-sensitivity immunoassay. Lumbar BMD was assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Multivariable linear regression models were used to evaluate associations between log-transformed sNFL and BMD, adjusting for demographic, lifestyle, metabolic, renal, cognitive, and bone-related covariates. Sensitivity analyses examined osteoporosis, defined as physician diagnosis or T-score ≤ - 2.5, as a binary outcome. RESULTS Higher sNFL levels were significantly associated with lower lumbar BMD (fully adjusted β = - 0.02 g/cm² per 1-unit increase in ln-sNFL; 95% CI: - 0.04, - 0.01; P = 0.0089). Compared with the lowest quartile, participants in the highest quartile had a 0.04 g/cm² lower BMD (P for trend = 0.011). Sensitivity analyses confirmed higher odds of osteoporosis with increasing sNFL levels (Q4 vs. Q1 OR = 2.70, 95% CI: 1.69, 4.31, P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Elevated serum sNFL concentrations are independently associated with lower lumbar spine BMD in U.S. adults. These findings suggest that sNFL may serve as an exploratory marker of systemic vulnerability relevant to bone health, warranting further longitudinal and mechanistic investigation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quercetin, a dietary flavonoid and a widely used supplement, has hepatoprotective properties. Given its urate-lowering effects and epidemiological evidence linking elevated serum urate levels to liver cancer risk, we tested whether quercetin reduces liver cancer risk via modulation of urate levels by bioinformatics methods. METHODS We employed drug-target Mendelian randomization using genome-wide association study summary statistics from public databases (e.g., MRC-IEU) to assess genetic associations, and integrated these findings with GEO datasets (such as GSE138709 and GSE179443) and immune infiltration analyses using tools like xCell, TIMER. RESULTS Our analyses identified ABCG2-mediated urate elevation as a causal risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (OR = 1.001, p < 0.01), cholangiocarcinoma (OR = 3.424, p < 0.01), and liver fibrosis (OR = 2.528, p < 0.01). Single-cell transcriptomics revealed elevated ABCG2 expression in cholangiocarcinoma endothelial cells, while immune infiltration analysis showed significant associations between ABCG2 expression and both endothelial cell and macrophage infiltration. Survival analysis further indicated that ABCG2 was not associated with poor prognosis in cholangiocarcinoma or hepatocellular carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS Considering quercetin's multifaceted interactions with BCRP/ABCG2, our findings support its potential use as a preventive dietary supplement for hepatic diseases rather than as an adjunctive therapy for established liver cancer.

Abstract
Numerous studies suggest that the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) is inversely associated with the onset of various diseases; however, the relationship between DII and the Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP) remains unclear. This research intends to explore the association between DII and LAP across different people to inform dietary practices and manage body lipid levels effectively. Data were gathered from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) between 1999 and 2018, examining a cohort of 17,790 participants. Linear regression analysis, along with sensitivity analysis, was used to investigate the association between the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) and the Lipid Accumulation Product (LAP). Additionally, subgroup analysis was performed to ascertain if the correlation between DII consumption with LAP varied depending on the population or situations. After accounting for possible confounding variables, a significant positive association between DII with LAP was observed [in model 1 (β= 2.01, 95% CI = 1.40, 2.63, p < 0.001), in model 2 (β = 1.47, 95% CI = 0.83, 2.10, p < 0.001), and model 3 (β = 0.86, 95% CI = 0.25, 1.47, p=0.006)]. Subgroup analyses indicated that this association between DII and LAP persisted across various age groups, among males, and in populations without cancer, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney issues, diabetes, hypertension, and non-smokers, among others. The results from the sensitivity analysis imply that the findings made in this research are reliable and consistent. Following an analysis of the data, the results indicated a positive relationship between DII and LAP. This research establishes a basis for additional investigations into the connection between inflammatory diets and circumstances such as diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.

Abstract
Background Ethylene oxide (EO) is a widely used industrial chemical recognized for its health risks, potentially posing threats to human health, including neurotoxicity, cardiovascular damage, and carcinogenic effects. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a protein released into the blood following axonal damage. To date, no studies have investigated the relationship between EO exposure and NfL levels. Therefore, we selected 5,902,013-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) participants to examine the relationship between blood EO levels and serum NfL concentrations. Methods According to the data from NHANES, this cross-sectional study used multiple regression analysis, subgroup analysis, and smooth curve fitting to explore the relationship between Ethylene oxide and Neurofilament light chain. Results The results of the present study indicate a positive association between EO exposure and NfL concentrations. Greater EO exposure was correlated with increased serum NfL concentrations in the fully adjusted model [β = 0.28, 95% CI (0.16, 0.40)]. Each additional unit of EO exposure was linked to a 0.28-unit increase in the serum NfL level. Additionally, IN sensitivity analysis by changing EO exposure from a continuous variable to a categorical variable. The serum NfL concentrations increased with increasing tertiles of EO levels. Compared with the lowest tertile, the highest EO exposure tertile was associated with a 0.28-unit increase in serum NfL concentrations (β = 0.28, 95% CI 0.16, 0.40; P for trend = 0.0138). Conclusion Our results indicate a link between increased EO levels and higher serum NfL concentrations in a sample of US adults aged 20 years and older. Although the directionality and clinical significance of this observation remain uncertain, our results emphasize the importance of conducting additional studies to investigate the possible causes and neurological effects of exposure to EO in adults.

Abstract
Kidney stones represent a significant global health challenge, with dietary habits playing a crucial role in their formation. This study investigates the association between dietary fatty acid intake-specifically saturated (SFA), monounsaturated (MUFA), and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA)-and the prevalence of kidney stones in a U.S. adult population, aiming to inform potential dietary prevention strategies. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2007-2018 were analyzed, including 30,716 participants. Logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between fatty acid intake and kidney stones prevalence, adjusting for demographic and health-related covariates such as age, sex, BMI, diabetes status, physical activity, and other dietary factors. Additional analyses were conducted to explore the effects of fatty acid intake as a percentage of total energy and the impact of various fatty acid ratios. Higher intakes of SFA, MUFA, and PUFA were associated with increased odds of kidney stones prevalence. Specifically, each 10 g/day increase in SFA, MUFA, and PUFA intake was linked to a 22% [OR = 1.22, 95% CI: 1.11-1.34, p = 0.002], 10% [OR = 1.10, 95% CI: 1.00-1.22, p = 0.052] and 21% [OR = 1.21, 95% CI: 1.10-1.33, p = 0.001] higher odds of kidney stones, respectively. These associations were generally consistent across various subgroups. Additional analyses examining fatty acid intake as a percentage of total energy and various fatty acid ratios yielded compatible findings. The findings suggest a modest association between higher dietary fatty acid intake and increased odds of kidney stones prevalence. While the observed odds increases were relatively small, these results highlight the importance of considering dietary fatty acid types in kidney stones prevention strategies. Future research is needed to further elucidate the underlying mechanisms and to refine dietary recommendations.

Abstract
The association between the recently updated cardiovascular health (CVH) assessment algorithm, the Life's Essential 8 (LE8), and all-cause mortality among adults with depression remains unknown. From the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2005-2018, a cohort of 2,935 individuals diagnosed with depression was identified. Their CVH was evaluated through the LE8 score system. The investigation of mortality status utilized connections with the National Death Index up to December 31, 2019. To assess the impact of CVH on mortality risk, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Cox proportional hazards models, adjusting for variables related to demographics and socioeconomic status, were applied. Among 2,935 participants, those with higher CVH levels had significantly lower all-cause mortality compared to those with lower CVH levels. Cox regression analyses demonstrated that each 1-point increase in CVH score was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality [HR = 0.97, 95%CI:0.96-0.98]. The inverse association between CVH and mortality persisted across different demographic and socioeconomic subgroups. Higher CVH levels were associated with a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality in individuals with depression. These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive CVH management as part of healthcare strategies for people with depression, suggesting that improving CVH may contribute to longer life expectancy in this vulnerable population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence regarding the individual and combined impact of dietary flavonoids on the risk of metabolic dysfunction associated with steatotic liver disease (MASLD) remains scarce. Our objective is to evaluate the association between individual and multiple dietary flavonoids with MASLD in adults. METHODS Data sets were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2017-2018. In total, 2581 participants aged over 18 years, with complete information on dietary flavonoid intake, MASLD, and covariates, were included. Flavonoid intake was energy-adjusted using the residual method. Logistic regression analysis was employed to examine the impact of total flavonoid intake on MASLD. Weighted quantile sum (WQS) analyses were used to evaluate the combined and individual effects of flavonoids on MASLD and to identify the predominant types with the most significant contribution to MASLD prevention. RESULTS The highest tertile of total flavonoid intake was associated with a 29% reduction in the risk of MASLD compared to the lowest tertile after multivariable adjustments (OR: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.51-0.97). The WQS analysis revealed that anthocyanidins, flavones, and flavanones were the most critical contributors among six subclasses (weights = 0.317, 0.279, and 0.227, respectively) and naringenin, apigenin, and delphinidin were the most critical contributors among 29 monomers. (weights = 0.240, 0.231, and 0.114, respectively). Also, a higher intake of anthocyanidins, flavones, naringenin, apigenin, and delphinidin was linked to a reduced risk of MASLD (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggested that a higher flavonoid intake is associated with a lower risk of MASLD, with anthocyanidins, flavones, flavanones, naringenin, apigenin, delphinidin, and myricetin contributing most to the protective effects of flavonoids.

Abstract
Serum neurofilament light chain (sNFL) is a biomarker for axonal injury. Previous studies have linked sNFL levels to cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension, but its association with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remains unclear. This study aims to explore the association between sNFL and CVD and evaluates its predictive value. Utilizing NHANES 2013-2014 data, this study included 2,035 participants aged ≥ 20 years with measured sNFL quantified using a Siemens immunoassay. CVD was self-reported and included myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, coronary heart disease, or angina. Logistic regression models assessed the association between sNFL levels and CVD. The predictive value of sNFL for CVD was evaluated using area under the curve (AUC) and DeLong test. Participants with higher sNFL levels were typically older, male, non-Hispanic white, smokers, and had lower socioeconomic status, higher CVD, hypertension, and diabetes prevalence. Higher sNFL levels were significantly associated with increased odds of CVD (adjusted OR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.05-1.88). The association was significant in non-hypertensive individuals (OR = 2.72, 95% CI: 1.61-4.62) but not in hypertensive individuals (OR = 1.13, 95% CI: 0.81-1.56). sNFL addition to traditional risk models improved predictive accuracy, especially in non-hypertensive individuals (AUC from 0.827 to 0.856). sNFL levels are significantly associated with CVD in the general population, with a strong predictive value in non-hypertensive individuals. Future longitudinal studies should validate sNFL's efficacy in various populations and explore the underlying mechanisms of its relationship with hypertension and CVD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The timing of food intake can affect the physiological and metabolic functions of the body. However, whether and how the timing of dietary antioxidant intake could influence non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is largely unknown. The Composite Dietary Antioxidant Index (CDAI) serves as a comprehensive measure that encompasses various dietary antioxidants. This study aims to investigate the association between the meal timing of CDAI and NAFLD in American adults. METHODS We used data from the 2017-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Dietary intake was assessed through the implementation of two non-concurrent 24-h dietary recalls. Vibration-controlled transient elastography was employed to assess the controlled attenuation as an indicator of NAFLD. CDAI across the day (total, breakfast, lunch, dinner) and Δ CDAI (Δ = dinner-breakfast) were categorized into quartiles. Weighted logistic regression models and restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate the association between the meal timing of CDAI and NAFLD. RESULTS Of the 6570 participants in this study, 1153 had NAFLD. Participants in the highest quartile of total CDAI levels had a lower risk of NAFLD compared with the lowest quartile (OR = 0.52; 95% CI, 0.38-0.71). More importantly, participants in the highest quartile of dinner CDAI, but not those in that of breakfast or lunch, had a lower risk of NAFLD (OR = 0.54; 95% CI, 0.40-0.73) compared with the lowest quartile. The restricted cubic splines indicated a linear relationship between total CDAI and NAFLD (Pfor nonlinearity = 0.70), as well as between dinner CDAI and NAFLD (Pfor nonlinearity = 0.19). Stratification analyses revealed that the effect of dinner CDAI on NAFLD varied between non-Hispanic Whites and individuals of other races (Pfor interaction = 0.032). CONCLUSIONS these findings suggest the potential beneficial effects of an antioxidant-rich diet and strategic meal timing on NAFLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This cross-sectional study examines the link between chronic diseases and suicidal thoughts in U.S. adults using 2013-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data, aiming to identify potential risk factors for suicidal ideation. METHODS Using NHANES data, we analyzed the association between various chronic conditions (hypertension, diabetes, asthma, etc.) and suicidal thoughts, employing logistic regression models adjusted for demographics and lifestyle factors. RESULTS The analysis of 8891 participants revealed a significant association between suicidal thoughts and chronic diseases such as liver disease, diabetes, and asthma. The risk of suicidal ideation is higher with the number of chronic conditions. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest a strong link between the presence and number of chronic diseases and the risk of suicidal thoughts, emphasizing the importance of integrated care approaches that address both physical and mental health needs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Studies investigating the relationship between flavonoid intake and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are limited. This study investigated the association between daily flavonoid intake and CKD in US adults by using data for 2007-2008, 2009-2010, and 2017-2018 from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. METHODS This study employed a cross-sectional design and used data from three cycles of the continuous NHANES: 2007-2008, 2009-2010, and 2017-2018. NHANES researchers collected data related to consumption of various food and beverages from participants by employing 24-h dietary recall questionnaires. CKD is defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate of < 60 mL/min/1.73m2 or a urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio of ≥ 30 mg/g. RESULTS The odds ratios (OR) for CKD risk in the second (Q2), third (Q3), and fourth (Q4) quartiles of total flavonoid intake, compared with that in the first (Q1) quartile, were 0.780 (95% CI: 0.600, 1.015), 0.741 (95% CI: 0.573, 0.957), and 0.716 (95% CI: 0.554, 0.925), respectively (with a P value for the trend of 0.040). According to the restricted cubic spline analysis, total flavonoid intake exhibited a non-linear relationship with CKD risk (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that a potential J-shaped relationship was observed between total flavonoid consumption and CKD risk, with an inflection point at 69.58 mg/d. Our study indicates that a moderate intake of flavonoids may confer renal benefits which may offer novel strategies for CKD treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The increasing incidence of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients contributes to the global burden of disease, but few epidemiological studies have evaluated the relationship between dietary flavonoids intake and depressive symptoms in diabetic patients in American adults. OBJECTIVE This study intended to evaluate the associations of dietary flavonoids intake and depressive symptoms in diabetic patients in American adults. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 1993 adults aged ≥20 years old who participated in the 2007-2008, 2009-2010, and 2017-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES). Chi-square test and independent-sample t-test were used to compare subjects' characteristics. Logistic regression model was further used to analyze the relationship between dietary flavonoid intake and depressive symptoms in diabetic patients. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis was used to investigate the non-linear relationship between dietary flavonoid intake and the prevalence of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients. The weighted quartile sum (WQS) regression was used to analyze the effect of 29 flavonoids monomers. RESULTS The results showed that the total flavonoid intake in the third quartile (OR, 0.635; 95 % CI,0.419-0.962; P, 0.032) was significantly associated with a reduced risk of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients compared with the lowest quartile. And there was a U-shaped association between dietary flavonoid intake and risk of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients. Top contributors of flavonoid monomers were eriodictyol, naringenin, and theaflavin-3'-gallate, accounting for a percentage of 30.83 %, 22.17 %, and 6.92 %, respectively. CONCLUSION Moderate (56.07-207.12 mg/day) dietary flavonoid intake was associated with a reduced risk of depressive symptoms in diabetic patients. The important flavonoid monomers were eriodictyol, naringenin, and theaflavin-3'-gallate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) exhibits a robust association with cardiovascular disease. Our study aims to elucidate the correlation between RA prevalence and Life's Essential 8 (LE8), a recently updated measure of cardiovascular health (CVH). METHODS AND RESULTS We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2007 to 2018. Utilizing multivariable logistic and restricted cubic spline models, we explored the relationship between LE8 and RA. Our analysis included 17,263 participants. We found that higher LE8 scores were closely associated with reduced odds of RA (odds ratio for each 10-point increase, 0.91 (95% CI, 0.75-0.87)). Furthermore, we observed a nonlinear association between LE8 and RA after adjusting for potential confounders. Specifically, higher scores for sleep health, nicotine exposure, body mass index, and blood pressure within the LE8 components were significantly correlated with a lower risk of RA. Additionally, the inverse relationship between LE8 scores and RA was notably stronger among young and female individuals. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest a negative correlation between LE8 and RA prevalence, indicating that adherence to the lifestyle defined by LE8 may confer protective effects against RA.

Abstract
Background Hearing loss (HL) is increasingly recognized as a significant global public health issue, and research on its relationship with vitamin D levels has gained wider attention. However, the association between serum biomarkers 25-hydroxyvitamin D2 (25(OH)D2) and D3 (25(OH)D3) with different types of HL remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the potential association of serum 25(OH)D2 and 25(OH)D3 with HL in US adults. Methods A sample of 3,684 individuals aged 20-69 years from the 2015-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination (NHANES) was analyzed in this study. HL was defined as a pure tone average > 25 dB in either ear at low frequencies (500, 1,000, 2000 Hz), speech frequencies (500, 1,000, 2000, 4,000 Hz), and high frequencies (3,000, 4,000, 6,000, 8,000 Hz). Logistic regression was employed to examine the association between serum 25(OH)D2 and 25(OH)D3 and HL. The study population was then stratified by age, gender, race, and education level to analyze potential differences between adults in different subgroups. Results In the multivariate analysis, it was found that serum 25(OH)D2 was independently associated with low-frequency hearing loss (LFHL) (OR: 1.012 [95% CI, 1.005-1.020]) and speech-frequency hearing loss (SFHL) (OR: 1.011 [95% CI, 1.003-1.018]). Restrictive cubic spline analysis demonstrated a linear dose-response relationship between serum 25(OH)D2 levels and LFHL (p for linearity <0.001), as well as SFHL (p for linearity = 0.001). Conversely, an L-shaped association was observed between serum 25(OH)D3 levels and both LFHL (p for nonlinearity = 0.014) and SFHL (p for nonlinearity = 0.025), with threshold values identified at 35.3 and 36.5 nmol/L, respectively. Higher levels of serum 25(OH)D3 were associated with a lower probability of high-frequency hearing loss (HFHL) (OR: 0.994 [95% CI, 0.989-0.999]), with a threshold value identified at 53.9 nmol/L. Furthermore, a significant interaction between diabetes and serum 25(OH)D2 in LFHL was revealed through subgroup analysis (p = 0.041). In the non-diabetic population, serum 25(OH)D2 maintained its association with LFHL. Conclusion Our findings suggested a positive association between serum 25(OH)D2 concentrations and both LFHL and SFHL in the studied cohort. Additionally, an L-shaped relationship was found between serum 25(OH)D3 and LFHL and SFHL, and higher levels of serum 25(OH)D3 were identified to be associated with a lower risk of HFHL.

Abstract
Introduction The correlation between potassium and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently still poorly understood. We conducted this study to explore the correlation between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD, as well as advanced hepatic fibrosis (AHF). The study also sought to identify any potential interactions. Methods The data employed in this study were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) program, encompassing a period from 2007 to 2018. Employing the multiple logistic regression analysis, we evaluated the association of dietary potassium intake with NAFLD and AHF. Subsequently, stratification analysis, based on demographic variables, was constructed so as to assess the stability of the results. In addition, potential interaction effects were assessed by interaction tests. Results A total of 9443 participants were included in the analysis. The mean age of the participants was 50.4 years, and their daily mean dietary potassium and vitamin C intake was 2556.49 mg and 82.93 mg, respectively. Following comprehensive statistical analyses, the findings indicated a negative correlation between dietary potassium intake and both NAFLD and AHF. Participants in Q4 group with dietary potassium intake exhibited a 31% and 42% reduction in the odds of developing NAFLD and AHF, respectively, in comparison to Q1 group. An interaction effect of dietary vitamin C intake was observed in the association between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD. The results imply that high dietary vitamin C intake augment the inverse relationship between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD. Conclusion Dietary potassium intake was found to have an inverse association with the odds of both NAFLD and AHF. The association between dietary potassium intake and NAFLD was amplified by the presence of vitamin C in the diet.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study investigates the relationship between cardiovascular health (CVH), as quantified by the American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 (LE8) metric, and female infertility, utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2013-2018. METHODS We encompassed females aged 20-49 years and above from the NHANES in this cross-sectional analysis. We assessed CVH using the LE8 score, encompassing eight domains: dietary pattern, physical activity, nicotine exposure, sleep duration, body mass index (BMI), lipid profile, fasting blood glucose, and blood pressure levels. Logistic regression models were applied to explore the association between CVH scores and reported infertility, adjusting for potential confounders including age, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. RESULTS Findings revealed a notable inverse association between CVH scores (per 10 scores) and female infertility [OR = 0.93, 95%CI: 0.90-0.96], Participants with higher CVH levels were 41% less likely to had female infertility compared to those with lower levels [OR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.41-0.84]. Higher overall CVH scores, particularly in physical activity, BMI, and blood glucose, were associated with lower odds of infertility. This trend remained consistent across various demographic subgroups. CONCLUSION Our findings underscore the significance of maintaining optimal cardiovascular health, as evidenced by higher LE8 scores, in mitigating the risk of female infertility. These insights advocate for the integration of CVH improvement strategies within the broader framework of reproductive health care, emphasizing the dual benefits of cardiovascular and reproductive health optimization.

Abstract
This study conducted data on 15,446 adults to explore the impact of flavonoids on weight-adjusted waist index (WWI). This was a nationwide cross-sectional study among US adults aged 20 years or older. Dietary intake of flavonoids was assessed through 24-h recall questionnaire. WWI was calculated by dividing waist circumference (WC) by the square root of weight. We utilized weighted generalized linear regression to evaluate the association between flavonoids intake and WWI, and restricted cubic splines (RCS) to explore potential non-linear relationships. Our findings indicated that individuals with lower WWI experienced a notable increase in their consumption of total flavonoids, flavanones, flavones, flavan-3-ols, and anthocyanidins intake (β (95% CI); -0.05(-0.09, -0.01); -0.07(-0.13, 0.00); -0.07(-0.11, -0.02); -0.06(-0.11, 0.00); -0.13(-0.18, -0.08), respectively), with the exception of flavonols and isoflavones. Additionally, consumption of total flavonoids, flavonols, flavanones, isoflavones, and flavan-3-ols had a non-linear relationship with WWI (all P for non-linearity < 0.05). Furthermore, the effect of total flavonoids on WWI varied in race (P for interaction = 0.011), gender (P for interaction = 0.038), and poverty status (P for interaction = 0.002). These findings suggested that increase the intake of flavonoids might prevent abdominal obesity, but further prospective studies are requested before dietary recommendation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The Weight-Adjusted Waist Index (WWI) is a new indicator of obesity that is associated with all-cause mortality in Asian populations. Our study aimed to investigate the linear and non-linear associations between WWI and all-cause mortality in non-Asian populations in the United States, and whether WWI was superior to traditional obesity indicators as a predictor of all-cause mortality. METHODS We conducted a cohort study using data from the 2011-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), involving 18,592 participants. We utilized Cox proportional hazard models to assess the association between WWI, BMI, WC, and the risk of all-cause mortality, and performed subgroup analyses and interaction tests. We also employed a receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve study to evaluate the effectiveness of WWI, BMI, and WC in predicting all-cause mortality. RESULTS After adjusting for confounders, WWI, BMI, and WC were positively associated with all-cause mortality. The performance of WWI, BMI, and WC in predicting all-cause mortality yielded AUCs of 0.697, 0.524, and 0.562, respectively. The data also revealed a U-shaped relationship between WWI and all-cause mortality. Race and cancer modified the relationship between WWI and all-cause mortality, with the relationship being negatively correlated in African Americans and cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS In non-Asian populations in the United States, there is a U-shaped relationship between WWI and all-cause mortality, and WWI outperforms BMI and WC as a predictor of all-cause mortality. These findings may contribute to a better understanding and prediction of the relationship between obesity and mortality, and provide support for effective obesity management strategies.

Abstract
With high prevalence and substantial mortality, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are significant public health concerns. Utilizing a large, population-based dataset from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, our study probes the relationship between COPD prevalence and hepatic steatosis and fibrosis, as measured by Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography. We analyzed data from 693 individuals with COPD and 7229 without. Through weighted multivariate logistic regression analysis, a restricted cubic spline curve, and threshold effect analysis, we investigated the correlation between the severity of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis and the presence of COPD. Our findings revealed a positive correlation between the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) and COPD prevalence [OR = 1.03 (95% CI 1.01, 1.05)], even after multivariate adjustment. Furthermore, we observed a U-shaped association between CAP and COPD, where the inflection point, CAP value of 264.85 dB/m, corresponded to the lowest COPD prevalence. Our study emphasizes a substantial and complex link between hepatic steatosis and COPD. These findings urge healthcare professionals to factor liver health into COPD management and prompt further exploration into the underlying mechanisms. This could pave the way for the development of improved prevention and treatment strategies.

Abstract
Previous studies have demonstrated the connection between obesity and telomere length. A recently devised metric for determining obesity, the weight-adjusted-waist index (WWI), offers a distinct advantage in predicting fat and lean mass by depicting weight-independent abdominal adiposity. This article presents the results of the inaugural study on the relationship between WWI and telomere length in adult populations. The cross-sectional investigation analyzed data from 3479 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999 to 2000. To inspect linear and nonlinear correlations, we adopted weighted multiple logistic regression analysis and smooth curve fit, respectively. In addition, threshold effects and subgroup analyses were accomplished. In the fully adapted model, a significant adverse association of WWI with telomere length was detected [β = -0.02, 95% CI: (-0.03, -0.00), P value = 0.01]. The adverse correlation remained consistent across all subcategories. We also discovered an inverted U-shaped curve linking WWI and telomere length, with a conspicuous inflection point of 10.07 cm/√kg. For the first time, our research demonstrated strong links between WWI and telomere length. The inflection point suggests that controlling WWI within an optimum range might be essential for aging and health.

Abstract
Background Fatty liver disease (FLD) is a common comorbidity of psoriasis and is often referred to as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the role of inflammation or insulin resistance (IR) in FLD is inconclusive. The study aims to explore whether FLD in psoriasis patients is more related to insulin resistance or systemic inflammation level. Methods Data for this study were collected from the Shanghai Psoriasis Effectiveness Evaluation Cohort, a prospective cohort that examines psoriasis characteristics in the Chinese population. IR was assessed using the triglyceride glucose (TyG) and TyG-body mass index (TyG-BMI) indicators. Systemic non-specific inflammation was assessed using the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR), and systemic immune inflammation index (SII). Results The analysis included a total of 647 patients. Subsequent logistic regression analysis revealed that NLR, dNLR, and SII were not significantly associated with FLD in psoriasis patients, while TyG and TyG-BMI showed significant associations with FLD. Subgroup analysis indicated that in the majority of subgroups, TyG and TyG-BMI were significantly associated with FLD, particularly TyG-BMI. Excluding individuals with methotrexate and acitretin resulted in consistent findings with the main analysis. Further analysis revealed a significantly higher diagnosis rate of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) compared to NAFLD. Conclusions Metabolic factors play a crucial role in FLD in patients with psoriasis, and TyG and TyG-BMI are potential predictors of FLD. Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyslipidemia is frequently present in patients with diabetes. The associations of remnant cholesterol and mortality remains unclear in patients with diabetes. AIM To explore the associations of remnant cholesterol with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in patients with diabetes. METHODS This prospective cohort study included 4740 patients with diabetes who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 through 2018. Remnant cholesterol was used as the exposure variable, and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were considered outcome events. Outcome data were obtained from the National Death Index, and all participants were followed from the interview date until death or December 31, 2019. Multivariate proportional Cox regression models were used to explore the associations between exposure and outcomes, in which remnant cholesterol was modeled as both a categorical and a continuous variable. Restricted cubic splines (RCSs) were calculated to assess the nonlinearity of associations. Subgroup (stratified by sex, age, body mass index, and duration of diabetes) and a series of sensitivity analyses were performed to evaluate the robustness of the associations. RESULTS During a median follow-up duration of 83 months, 1370 all-cause deaths and 389 cardiovascular deaths were documented. Patients with remnant cholesterol levels in the third quartile had a reduced risk of all-cause mortality [hazard ratio (HR) 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.66 (0.52-0.85)]; however, when remnant cholesterol was modeled as a continuous variable, it was associated with increased risks of all-cause [HR (95%CI): 1.12 (1.02-1.21) per SD] and cardiovascular [HR (95%CI): 1.16 (1.01-1.32), per SD] mortality. The RCS demonstrated nonlinear associations of remnant cholesterol with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses did not reveal significant differences from the above results. CONCLUSION In patients with diabetes, higher remnant cholesterol was associated with increased risks of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and diabetes patients with slightly higher remnant cholesterol (0.68-1.04 mmol/L) had a lower risk of all-cause mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is a crucial indicator of cardiovascular health. This study aims investigates the associations between dietary fatty acid intake and AAC. METHODS In this study, a cross-sectional assessment was performed on a group of 2,897 individuals aged 40 and above, utilizing data from the NHANES. The focus was on examining dietary consumption of various fatty acids, including Saturated (SFA), Monounsaturated (MUFA), Polyunsaturated (PUFA), as well as Omega-3 and Omega-6. The evaluation of AAC was done by applying the Kauppila AAC score to results obtained from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry scans. For statistical analysis, weighted multivariate linear and logistic regression were employed, with adjustments for variables like gender, age, ethnicity, and overall health condition. RESULTS Participants with higher intake of SFA and PUFA showed a positive association with AAC score, while higher levels of dietary Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids was connected with a negative correlation. Subgroup analyses indicated consistent associations across different sexes and age groups. The study found that an increase in SFA and PUFA intake correlated with an increase in AAC score, whereas Omega-3 and Omega-6 intake correlated with a decrease. CONCLUSION This study underscores the importance of dietary fatty acid composition in the prevalence of AAC and its potential implications for dietary guidelines and cardiovascular disease prevention strategies.

METHODS AND RESULTS The six main types of flavonoids, including isoflavones, anthocyanidins, flavan-3-ols, flavanones, flavones, and flavonols, were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2010 and 2017-2018 by the two 24-h recall interviews. The prevalence of CRDs, including asthma, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis, was determined through a self-administered questionnaire. The analysis included 15,753 participants aged 18 years or older who had completed a diet history interview. After adjustment for potential confounders, the inverse link was found with total flavonoids, anthocyanidins, flavanones, and flavones, with an OR (95%CI) of 0.86 (0.75-0.98), 0.84 (0.72-0.97), 0.80(0.69-0.92), and 0.85(0.73-0.98) for the highest group compared to the lowest group. WQS regression revealed that the mixture of flavonoids was negatively linked with the prevalence of CRDs (OR = 0.88 [0.82-0.95], P < 0.01), and the largest effect was mainly from flavanones (weight = 0.41). In addition, we found that flavonoid intake was negatively linked with inflammatory markers, and systemic inflammation significantly mediated the associations of flavonoids with CRDs, with a mediation rate of 12.64% for CRP (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION Higher flavonoid intake was related with a lower prevalence of CRDs in adults, and this relationship may be mediated through systemic inflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is a strong association between cardiovascular disease (CVD) and periodontitis. This study utilized the Life Essentials 8 (LE8) score, a composite measure of cardiovascular health (CVH), to elucidate the relationship between CVH and periodontitis. METHODS Data from 8,649 nationally representative participants in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were analyzed. The independent variable in our study was the CVH score (a higher CVH score indicates better cardiovascular health), and the dependent variable was the presence or absence of periodontitis. The association between CVH and periodontitis was investigated using weighted multivariable logistic regression models and restricted cubic spline (RCS). We controlled for potential confounders such as age, sex, race, education, and socioeconomic status to minimize bias. RESULTS There was a negative association between the total CVH score and the odds of periodontitis. After adjusting for all covariates, a 10-point increase in total CVH score was associated with a 10% lower in the odds of periodontitis [0.90 (0.87, 0.93)]. Participants with a higher CVH had 40% lower odds of periodontitis compared with those with a lower CVH. Socioeconomic status (education and income) modified this association (P for interaction < 0.05). CONCLUSION Our study suggests that better cardiovascular health, as indicated by higher CVH scores, is associated with a reduced likelihood of periodontitis among US adults. The relationship between CVH and periodontitis appears to be influenced by socioeconomic status, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions in populations with lower socioeconomic status.

Abstract
Background Studies on the associations between Systemic Immune-Inflammation (SII) and hepatic steatosis in China are still lacking. It is necessary to clarify the relationship between SII and hepatic steatosis in the Chinese population. Methods This study was conducted from January 2022 to December 2022. A total of 37,095 participants were enrolled, among them, with 20,709 (55.83%) being males, and 16,386 (44.17%) being females. Physical and biochemical indicators were measured during a morning health examination after the examinees had fasted overnight. Diagnoses of hepatic steatosis were determined using an ultrasound test in accordance with the Chinese Guideline. Analysis of variance and chi-square tests were used to analyze the association between SII and hepatic steatosis. Stratification analyses were conducted based on age, gender, and obese status. Restricted cubic spline regression was also performed to explore the shapes of associations between SII and hepatic steatosis. Results The average age of the 37,095 participants was 44.78 years old, with those with hepatic steatosis (11,599 (31.27%)) averaging 47.06 years old and those (25,496 (68.73%)) in the control group averaging 43.73 years old. SII was positively associated with hepatic steatosis. This association remained significant after conducting stratification analysis by age and gender. The inflection points in the inverted U-shaped curve for the relationship between SII and hepatic steatosis were 399.78 for gender (1000 cells /µL)(nonlinear P<0.01, OR=1.31 (male), 1.00 (female)) and 385.79 for age (1000 cells /µL)(nonlinear P<0.01, OR=1.35 (18~44 years old), 1.87 (45~59 years old), 1.93 (60~ years old)). Conclusion SII is an independent risk factor for hepatic steatosis, and this effect appears to be stronger in subjects with BMI <28 kg/m2. The nonlinear relationship between SII and hepatic steatosis, characterized by an inverted U-shaped distribution, may serve as a reference for diagnosing and evaluating hepatic steatosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The possible interaction of dietary flavonoid intake and sleep on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has not been well studied. This study investigated the interaction between dietary flavonoid intake and trouble sleeping on the risk of NAFLD. METHODS Three discrete National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data cycles from 2007 to 2010 and 2017 to 2018 were used. NAFLD was diagnosed by a US Fatty Liver Index ≥30. A sleep questionnaire diagnosed trouble sleeping. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS) and subgroup analyses were used to evaluate the association between dietary flavonoids, trouble sleeping and NAFLD. We employed the relative excess risk due to interaction, attributable proportion of interaction and synergy index to evaluate additive interactions. RESULTS Ultimately, 5056 participants were enrolled, and higher anthocyanidins and flavanones intake was negatively correlated with NAFLD. Conversely, trouble sleeping was positively associated with NAFLD. These correlations remained stable after adjusting for confounders, and there was a sex difference in this relationship. In the RCS model, anthocyanins were negatively non-linearly related to NAFLD, while flavanones showed a negative linear relationship. Moreover, there was a synergistic interplay between low dietary anthocyanin intake and trouble sleeping on the risk of NAFLD. A similar relationship existed for flavanone intake. CONCLUSION Anthocyanin and flavanone intake were negatively associated, whereas trouble sleeping was positively associated with NAFLD risk. There was a synergistic effect of low anthocyanin intake and trouble sleeping. The same relationship existed for low flavanone intake.

Abstract
Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an increasingly prevalent inflammatory disorder worldwide. Its complex etiology has recently brought dietary factors, particularly fiber intake, into focus as potential influencers. Our study investigates the intricate relationship between various sources of dietary fiber and RA, emphasizing the mediating role of the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). Leveraging data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey spanning 2011 to 2020. We meticulously assessed dietary fiber intake through dual 24 h dietary recall interviews, while RA diagnoses were established based on comprehensive medical surveys. The relationships between fiber intake, RA prevalence, and DII mediation were analyzed using sophisticated multivariate logistic regression and mediation analysis. Among our study cohort, 7% were diagnosed with RA. We observed a notable inverse correlation between increased total fiber intake, particularly 5 g/day increments, and the incidence of RA, with cereal fiber intake emerging as the primary mitigating factor. Intriguingly, the DII played a significant role in mediating this association, especially regarding cereal fiber. Our findings reveal a significant association between higher cereal fiber consumption and a reduced prevalence of RA. Additionally, the DII stands out as a pivotal mediator in this relationship, highlighting dietary management's critical role in preventing and managing RA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Prevalence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is increasing, especially in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). AIM To investigate rifaximin (RIF) effects on epigenetic/autophagy markers in animals. METHODS Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned (n = 8, each) and treated from 5-16 wk: Control [standard diet, water plus gavage with vehicle (Veh)], HCC [high-fat choline deficient diet (HFCD), diethylnitrosamine (DEN) in drinking water and Veh gavage], and RIF [HFCD, DEN and RIF (50 mg/kg/d) gavage]. Gene expression of epigenetic/autophagy markers and circulating miRNAs were obtained. RESULTS All HCC and RIF animals developed metabolic-dysfunction associated steatohepatitis fibrosis, and cirrhosis, but three RIF-group did not develop HCC. Comparing animals who developed HCC with those who did not, miR-122, miR-34a, tubulin alpha-1c (Tuba-1c), metalloproteinases-2 (Mmp2), and metalloproteinases-9 (Mmp9) were significantly higher in the HCC-group. The opposite occurred with Becn1, coactivator associated arginine methyltransferase-1 (Carm1), enhancer of zeste homolog-2 (Ezh2), autophagy-related factor LC3A/B (Map1 Lc3b), and p62/sequestosome-1 (p62/SQSTM1)-protein. Comparing with controls, Map1 Lc3b, Becn1 and Ezh2 were lower in HCC and RIF-groups (P < 0.05). Carm1 was lower in HCC compared to RIF (P < 0.05). Hepatic expression of Mmp9 was higher in HCC in relation to the control; the opposite was observed for p62/Sqstm1 (P < 0.05). Expression of p62/SQSTM1 protein was lower in the RIF-group compared to the control (P = 0.024). There was no difference among groups for Tuba-1c, Aldolase-B, alpha-fetoprotein, and Mmp2 (P > 0.05). miR-122 was higher in HCC, and miR-34a in RIF compared to controls (P < 0.05). miR-26b was lower in HCC compared to RIF, and the inverse was observed for miR-224 (P < 0.05). There was no difference among groups regarding miR-33a, miR-143, miR-155, miR-375 and miR-21 (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION RIF might have a possible beneficial effect on preventing/delaying liver carcinogenesis through epigenetic modulation in a rat model of MASLD-HCC.

Abstract
Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a widely used industrial chemical with recognized health risks. While its carcinogenic properties have been extensively studied, emerging evidence suggests potential associations with cardiovascular diseases. Using the recently introduced Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score as a comprehensive cardiovascular health (CVH) measure, this study aimed to elucidate the relationship between EtO exposure and CVH. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) encompassing 3748 adults was analyzed. CVH was assessed using the LE8 score, which incorporates diet, physical activity, tobacco/nicotine exposure, sleep duration, BMI, non-HDL cholesterol, blood glucose, and blood pressure. The association between EtO exposure, gauged by Hemoglobin adduct (HbEtO) levels, and CVH was examined using linear regression and Cox regression models. An inverse relationship between EtO exposure and the overall CVH score was identified. Specifically, for every 1-unit increase in ln-transformed HbEtO, a 3.69-point decrease in the total CVH score was observed. An inverted J-shaped association between ln-transformed HbEtO and CVH score emerged, with an inflection point at 3.15 pmol/g Hb. Elevated EtO exposure was not significantly linked to all-cause mortality but was robustly associated with increased cardiovascular mortality. Elevated EtO exposure is negatively associated with CVH, as outlined by the LE8 metrics. Beyond a certain threshold, this association underscores the cardiovascular risks of EtO exposure and highlights the importance of further research to determine underlying mechanisms and recommend preventive strategies.

Abstract
Flavonoids have been shown to be beneficial in a variety of inflammatory and metabolic diseases because of their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. However, previous epidemiological studies have only demonstrated a negative correlation between flavonoid intake on inflammatory markers, and the optimal intake of dietary flavonoids and subclasses in terms of dietary anti-inflammatory efficacy remains undetermined. This study was based on 3 cycles (2007-2010, 2017-2018) of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and the corresponding expanded flavonoid database. Weighted multiple linear regression was used to assess linear relationships between flavonoid intake and Dietary inflammation index (DII). Smoothed curve fit and a generalized additive model were used to investigate the nonlinear relationships and threshold effects, the 2-tailed linear regression model was used to find potential inflection points. A total of 12,724 adults were included in the study. After adjusting for potential confounders, flavonoid intake was significantly associated with DII, with the strongest negative association effect for flavonols (-0.40 [-0.45, -0.35]). In subgroup analyses stratified by sex, race, age, body mass index, education levels, and diabetes, flavonol intake maintained a significant negative linear correlation with DII. In addition, we found significant nonlinear relationships (L-shaped relationships) and threshold effects between total flavonoids, flavan-3-ols, and flavanols and DII, with inflection points of 437.65 mg/days, 157.79 mg/days, and 46.36 mg/days, respectively. Our results suggest a threshold for the dietary anti-inflammatory capacity of flavonoid intake in U.S. adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a new measure of obesity, and this study aimed to determine the association between the WWI and stroke. METHODS Using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2020 dataset, cross-sectional data from 23,389 participants were analysed. The correlation between the WWI and stroke was investigated through multivariate logistic regression and smoothing curve fitting. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were also carried out. RESULTS The research involved 23,389 participants, of whom 893 (3.82%) had a stroke. The fully adjusted model revealed a positive correlation between the WWI and stroke [1.25 (1.05, 1.48)]. Individuals who were in the highest quartile of WWI exhibited a 62% higher likelihood of experiencing a stroke than those in the lowest quartile [1.62 (1.06, 2.48)]. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests revealed that this positive correlation was similar in different population settings (all P for interaction > 0.05). CONCLUSION A higher WWI was associated with a higher prevalence of stroke. The results of this study underscore the value of the WWI in stroke prevention and management.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Even though cadmium (Cd) exposure and cellular senescence (telomere length) have been linked in previous studies, composite molecular aging biomarkers are more significant and reliable factors to consider when examining the connection between metal exposure and health outcomes. The purpose of this research was to assess the association between urinary cadmium (U-Cd) and whole-body aging (phenotypic age). METHODS Phenotypic age was calculated from chronological age and 9 molecular biomarkers. Multivariate linear regression models, subgroup analysis, and smoothing curve fitting were used to explore the linear and nonlinear relationship between U-Cd and phenotypic age. Mediation analysis was performed to explore the mediating effect of U-Cd on the association between smoking and phenotypic age. RESULTS This study included 10,083 participants with a mean chronological age and a mean phenotypic age of 42.24 years and 42.34 years, respectively. In the fully adjusted model, there was a positive relationship between U-Cd and phenotypic age [2.13 years per 1 ng/g U-Cd, (1.67, 2.58)]. This association differed by sex, age, and smoking subgroups (P for interaction < 0.05). U-Cd mediated a positive association between serum cotinine and phenotypic age, mediating a proportion of 23.2%. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that high levels of Cd exposure are associated with whole-body aging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, a group of hepatologists proposed to rename non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) as metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) with modified diagnostic criteria. It is important to note, however, that there are some differences between the diagnostic criteria used for NAFLD and MAFLD. Since the research on MAFLD is just beginning, however, evidence on its incidence and prevalence in the general population and in specific subpopulations remains limited. AIM To assess epidemiology of fatty liver in new definition and compare MAFLD with NAFLD. Exploring risk factors of MAFLD individuals. METHODS This was a retrospective, cross-sectional study. A total of 85242 adults were selected from the Chinese health management database in 2017-2022. The data of general information, laboratory indicators, lifestyle management and psychological status were obtained. MAFLD was diagnosed as ultrasound diagnosis of fatty liver and at least one between these three conditions: Overweight/obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) or metabolic dysregulation. Metabolic factors were not considered in NAFLD diagnosis standard. The clinical characteristics of MAFLD and NAFLD were analysed using descriptive statistics. Continuous variables normally distributed were expressed as means ± SD. Categorical variables were expressed as frequencies and proportions. Binary logistic regression was used to determine risk factors of the MAFLD. RESULTS The prevalence of MAFLD and NAFLD was 40.5% and 31.0%, respectively. The MAFLD or NAFLD population is more likely to be older (M: 47.19 ± 10.82 vs 43.43 ± 11.96; N: 47.72 ± 11.17 vs 43.71 ± 11.66), male (M: 77.21% vs 44.43%; N: 67.90% vs 53.12%) and high body mass index (M: 26.79 ± 2.69 vs 22.44 ± 2.48; N: 26.29 ± 2.84 vs 23.29 ± 3.12) than the non-MAFLD or non-MAFLD population. In multivariate analysis, general information (e.g., ≥ 2 metabolic abnormalities OR = 3.38, (95%CI: 2.99-3.81), P < 0.001; diastolic blood pressure OR = 1.01, (95%CI: 1.00-1.01), P = 0.002), laboratory results [e.g.,total bilirubin (TBIL) OR = 0.98, (95%CI: 0.98-0.99), P < 0.001; serum uric acid(SUA) OR = 1.01, (95%CI: 1.01-1.01), P < 0.001], and lifestyle factors [e.g., drink beverage OR = 0.32, (95%CI: 0.17-0.63), P = 0.001] were influence factors for MAFLD. Our study results offer new insight into potential risk factors associated with fatty liver disease, including SUA, TBIL and creatinine, all of which are related to chronic renal disease (CKD). CONCLUSION MAFLD is more prevalent than NAFLD, with two-fifths of individuals meeting the diagnosis criteria. MAFLD and NAFLD populations have different clinical characteristics. CKD may be related with MAFLD.

Abstract
Hyperuricemia and its complications are severe risks to human health. Dietary intervention is considered an essential part of the management of hyperuricemia. Studies have reported that the intake of antioxidants has a positive effect on hyperuricemia. Here, we collected data from 8761 participants of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey for this analysis. Daily intakes of vitamins A, C, and E; manganese; selenium; and zinc were calculated as the composite dietary antioxidant index (CDAI). The participants were divided into four groups (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4) according to the CDAI. Univariate analysis was used to assess the association of covariates with hyperuricemia. The association between the CDAI and hyperuricemia was evaluated using multinomial logistic regression, and its stability was determined by stratified analysis. Our results revealed that the CDAI has a significant negative association with hyperuricemia (Q2: 0.81 (0.69, 0.95); Q3: 0.75 (0.62, 0.90); Q4: 0.65 (0.51, 0.82); P < 0.01). The results of stratified analysis emphasize that this association between CDAI and hyperuricemia is stable. In conclusion, this study suggested a negative association between the CDAI and hyperuricemia.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hearing loss is a prevalent health concern, and dietary factors, such as fatty acid intake, may play a role in its development. The current study aimed to investigate the association between the intake of dietary fatty acids and hearing thresholds among U.S. adults. METHODS The researchers examined data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), including 7,623 participants with available dietary fatty acid intake and audiometry data. Dietary fatty acid intake was assessed using dietary recalls, and hearing thresholds were measured using pure-tone audiometry. Multivariate linear regression models and smoothing curve fitting were utilized to explore the associations between dietary fatty acid intake and hearing thresholds, adjusting for relevant covariates. RESULTS This study reveals a direct association between both low and high frequency pure tone average (PTA) hearing thresholds and the dietary intake of total saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and total polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Conversely, the intake of total monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) demonstrates an inverted U-shaped correlation with low-frequency and high-frequency PTA hearing thresholds, having inflection points at 11.91 (energy (%)) and 10.88 (energy (%)), respectively. CONCLUSION Dietary intake of certain fatty acids may influence hearing thresholds in adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The weight-adjusted waist circumference index (WWI) is a novel obesity indicator that offers improved accuracy in assessing both muscle and fat mass compared to traditional measures. This study aimed to investigate the association between WWI and bone mineral density (BMD) in adults. METHODS Weighted multivariate logistic regression, subgroup analysis, interaction tests and restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves were used to explore the relationship between WWI and BMD based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). RESULTS This study had 40,568 individuals in total. At all four measurement sites, we detected a negative linear correlation between WWI and BMD. Even when quartile factors for WWI were created, this unfavorable connection maintained. In comparison to those in the lowest quartile, those in the highest percentile of WWI showed declines in lumbar BMD of 0.08 g/cm2 and femoral neck BMD of 0.03 g/cm2, respectively. This adverse correlation, nevertheless, differed among several categories. CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest an adverse correlation between WWI and BMD among US adults. Employing WWI as a tool for osteoporosis prevention in the general population may enhance interventions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The rate of biological aging is influenced by various factors such as genetics, environment, and diet. The dietary inflammatory index (DII) is strongly associated with various chronic diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between DII and biological aging in US adults using quantitative indicators. METHODS Based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018, weighted multiple linear regression models, generalized weighted models, and smoothed fitted curves were used to investigate the linear and nonlinear relationships of DII with four biological markers of aging (biological age, phenotypic age, telomere length, and serum klotho concentration). RESULTS A total of 35,575 adult participants with complete data were included in the study. After adjusting for all confounders, significant positive correlations were found between DII with biological age [0.070 (0.045, 0.095)] and phenotypic age [0.421 (0.371, 0.471)], with an increase of 0.07 and 0.42 years in biological age and phenotypic age, respectively, for each increase in DII score. The negative correlations between DII with telomere length [ - 0.005 ( - 0.008, - 0.002)] and klotho [ - 3.874 ( - 7.409, - 0.338)] were significant only in partially adjusted models and differed across subgroups. CONCLUSIONS In the current study, higher DII scores (greater pro-inflammatory dietary potential) were associated with biological aging. These findings may contribute to the development of aging prevention strategies through dietary interventions.

Abstract
Introduction The weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) serves as an innovative obesity measure, seemingly surpassing body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) in evaluating lean and fat mass. This study aimed to explore the relationship between WWI and total bone mineral density (BMD) in US adolescents. Methods This population-based study investigated adolescents aged 8-19 years with comprehensive WWI and total BMD data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011-2018. WWI was computed by dividing WC by the square root of body weight. Weighted multivariate linear regression and smoothed curve fitting were employed to examine linear and non-linear associations. Threshold effects were determined using a two-part linear regression model. Additionally, subgroup analyses and interaction tests were conducted. Results Multivariate linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative association between WWI and total BMD in 6,923 US adolescents aged 8-19 years [β = -0.03, 95% CI: (-0.03, -0.03)]. This negative correlation remained consistent across all subcategories, with the exception of age, encompassing gender,ethnicity, and diabetes status subgroups. Furthermore, a non-linear relationship and saturation effect between WWI and total BMD were identified, with an inflection point at 9.88 cm/√kg. Conclusions Our research demonstrated a notable negative relationship and saturation effect between WWI and total BMD among US adolescents.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Inequality in socioeconomic status plays an important role in the prevalence of metabolic diseases in adolescents. The purpose of this study was to explore the association between family income and the degree of hepatic steatosis quantified by vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE) among U.S. adolescents. METHODS This cross-sectional study included two cycles of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2017-2020. Multivariate linear regression and smoothing curve fitting were used to investigate the linear and nonlinear relationship between PIR and hepatic steatosis, respectively. Subgroup analysis and interaction tests were used to test whether this relationship was stable across groups. RESULTS Of the 1,574 adolescent participants, 456 lived in poor households and 307 lived in wealthy households. After adjusting for all covariates, PIR (Ratio of family income to poverty) was significantly negatively associated with the degree of hepatic steatosis [-4.78 (-7.39, -2.17)], and this remained stable after converting PIR to a categorical variable. In addition, this significant negative association was more pronounced in women [-7.62 (-11.38, -3.87)], non-Hispanic blacks [-7.19 (-14.43, 0.06)], Mexican Americans [-6.80 (-13.63, 0.03)], and participants with BMI >30 cm2 [-10.83 (-19.70, -1.96)]. CONCLUSIONS PIR was significantly and negatively associated with the degree of hepatic steatosis in US adolescents. Additional prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings.
