Abstract
Preeclampsia, a hypertensive disorder during pregnancy, frequently correlates with adverse neurological outcomes in offspring, including cognitive impairments, autism spectrum disorder, depressive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and cerebral palsy. Despite these known consequences, the understanding of neuronal damage in the offspring of preeclamptic mothers remains insufficient. Here, we review the neuronal abnormalities resulting from maternal preeclampsia exposure, which include disrupted neurogenesis, loss of neuronal cell integrity, accumulation of cellular debris, decreased synaptogenesis and myelination, and increased neurite growth stimulated by maternal preeclampsia serum. The underlying mechanisms potentially driving these effects involve microglial activation, inflammatory responses, and reduced angiogenesis. Intervention strategies aimed at improving fetal neuronal outcomes are also discussed, encompassing pharmacological treatments such as pravastatin, tadalafil, and melatonin, as well as non-pharmacological approaches like dietary modifications, maternal exercise, and standard care for children. These interventions hold promise for clinical application, offering avenues to address early neuronal abnormalities and prevent the onset of long-term neurological disorders.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDPs) are common complications encountered in pregnancy that affect between 5% and 15% of pregnancies worldwide. Some studies have associated adherence to a diet with a high acid load with an increased risk of HDPs. This study investigates the association between Dietary Acid Load (DAL) and the incidence of preeclampsia, chronic hypertension (HTN), and gestational hypertension (GHTN). METHODS Pregnant women aged 18 to 45 in the first trimester of pregnancy were selected and followed up until delivery. Diet was evaluated using a 168-question semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). After calculating the DAL score, the inverse probability weight of the propensity scores, estimated from augmented generalized models, was used to obtain a causal risk ratio (RR) adjusted for potential confounders. RESULTS Out of 1,856 women, 92 (4.95%) developed preeclampsia. The potential renal acid load (PRAL) score ranged from - 16.14 to 0.58, while the net endogenous acid production (NEAP) score ranged from 34.61 to 50.15. Multivariable analysis revealed a significant association between PRAL and preeclampsia in the first (aRR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.01, 3.49, p = 0.048) and third (aRR: 2.01, 95% CI: 1.07, 3.81, p = 0.030) quartiles compared to the reference group (Q2). No significant linear association was found in continuous analyses. For chronic HTN, significant associations were observed in the first (aRR: 2.56, 95% CI: 1.21, 5.42, p = 0.014) and fourth (aRR: 4.79, 95% CI: 2.37, 9.71, p < 0.001) PRAL quartiles, with similar findings for NEAP. Continuous analysis showed a significant linear association between both PRAL and NEAP scores and chronic HTN. Regarding GHTN, significant associations were found in the first (aRR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.02, 2.16, p = 0.041) and fourth (aRR: 1.88, 95% CI: 1.31, 2.70, p = 0.001) PRAL quartiles, and in Q4 for NEAP (aRR: 1.56, 95% CI: 1.10, 2.21, p = 0.012), with no significant linear association in continuous analysis. CONCLUSION Extremes in DAL, as indicated by PRAL and NEAP, are associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia, chronic HTN, and GHTN, particularly in the highest and lowest quartiles. These findings highlight the potential impact of DAL on HDPs.

Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a multisystem disorder characterized by elevated blood pressure in the mother, typically occurring after 20 weeks of gestation and posing risks to both maternal and fetal health. PE causes placental changes that can affect the fetus, particularly neurodevelopment. Its key pathophysiological mechanisms encompass hypoxia, vascular and angiogenic dysregulation, inflammation, neuronal and glial alterations, and disruptions in neuronal signaling. Animal models indicate that PE is correlated with neurodevelopmental alterations and cognitive dysfunctions in offspring and in humans, an association between PE and conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and sexual dimorphism has been observed. Considering the relevance for mothers and children, we conducted a narrative literature review to describe the relationships between the pathophysiological mechanisms behind neurodevelopmental alterations in the offspring of PE mothers, along with their potential consequences. Furthermore, we emphasize aspects pertinent to the prevention/treatment of PE in pregnant mothers and alterations observed in their offspring. The present narrative review offers a current, complete, and exhaustive analysis of (i) the pathophysiological mechanisms that can affect neurodevelopment in the children of PE mothers, (ii) the relationship between PE and neurological alterations in offspring, and (iii) the prevention/treatment of PE.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The proposal to administer cuts for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) could create deficiencies in nutrition for already food insecure, low-income Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) pregnant, postpartum women, and children. WIC is a US Department of Agriculturefunded nutritional program for women, infants, and children. The current proposal is to cut the funding by $800 million for the 2024 fiscal year, affecting 75% of its low-income recipients and predominantly BIPOC. METHODS Relevant websites and journal articles were analyzed to determine how the proposed cuts would create barriers within the social determinants of health that contribute to disparities in health outcomes of WIC recipients. RESULTS Many studies have demonstrated that nutrition in the first 1000 days is critical for the healthy development of newborns. Prior research suggests that maternal health outcomes for BIPOC populations are contingent upon the increased allocation of nutritional support programs such as WIC and SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). Nutrients provided by the cash benefit voucher have been proven to contribute to participants' health outcomes, and allotment increases can benefit maternal and infant health outcomes. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS Neonatal nurses can help advocate for more robust policies that support the health of their patients. Future directions call for systematic changes in policies and legislation that directly affect maternal health outcomes, supportive breastfeeding policies, and applied research on solutions to improve maternal health outcomes of BIPOC populations in addition to increased awareness, education, and implementation of VeggieRx programs, investment in affordable, sustainable grassroots urban agriculture solutions.

Abstract
This study evaluated the association between inflammatory diets as measured by the Dietary Inflammatory index (DII), inflammation biomarkers and the development of preeclampsia among the Chinese population. We followed the reporting guidelines of the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology statement for observational studies. A total of 466 preeclampsia cases aged over 18 years were recruited between March 2016 and June 2019, and 466 healthy controls were 1:1 ratio matched by age (±3 years), week of gestation (±1 week) and gestational diabetes mellitus. The energy-adjusted DII (E-DII) was computed based on dietary intake assessed using a seventy-nine item semiquantitative FFQ. Inflammatory biomarkers were analysed by ELISA kits. The mean E-DII scores were -0·65 ± 1·58 for cases and -1·19 ± 1·47 for controls (P value < 0·001). E-DII scores positively correlated with interferon-γ (r s = 0·194, P value = 0·001) and IL-4 (r s = 0·135, P value = 0·021). After multivariable adjustment, E-DII scores were positively related to preeclampsia risk (Ptrend < 0·001). The highest tertile of E-DII was 2·18 times the lowest tertiles (95 % CI = 1·52, 3·13). The odds of preeclampsia increased by 30 % (95 % CI = 18 %, 43 %, P value < 0·001) for each E-DII score increase. The preeclampsia risk was positively associated with IL-2 (OR = 1·07, 95 % CI = 1·03, 1·11), IL-4 (OR = 1·26, 95 % CI = 1·03, 1·54) and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) (OR = 1·17, 95 % CI = 1·06, 1·29). Therefore, proinflammatory diets, corresponding to higher IL-2, IL-4 and TGF-β levels, were associated with increased preeclampsia risk.

Abstract
Various studies have investigated the risk of preeclampsia with the forkhead box protein P3 (FOXP3) gene rs2232365 and rs3761548 polymorphisms. However, the results remained contradictory. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Web of Science (up to Oct 11, 2021). Meta-analysis was carried out in the R language environment for statistical computing and graphics. A fixed-effect or random-effects model was used according to the statistical significance of heterogeneity among included studies. The pooled odds ratios and corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated to estimate the strength of the effect. For the rs2232365 polymorphism, statistical significance was detected neither in the overall population nor among the East Asian and West Asian subgroups. However, for rs3761548, the summarized statistics revealed a significant association between the C allele carriage and preeclampsia risk in the homozygote, heterozygote, and dominant models. The further stratified analysis found this effect might be specific to West-South Asian ethnic subgroups. To sum up, this meta-analysis showed that the FOXP3 rs3761548 polymorphism was significantly associated with preeclampsia susceptibility, and it had a deleterious effect especially in the West-South Asian population. In contrast, rs2232365 may serve as neither a protective nor a risk factor for preeclampsia onset.

Abstract
Little is known about the effects of dietary patterns on prevalent pre-eclampsia in Chinese population. This study aimed to investigate the associations between dietary patterns and the odds of pre-eclampsia among Chinese pregnant women. A 1:1 age- and gestational week-matched case-control study was conducted between March 2016 and February 2019. A total of 440 pairs of pre-eclampsia cases and healthy controls were included. Dietary intakes were assessed by a seventy-nine-item FFQ and subsequently grouped into twenty-eight distinct groups. Factor analysis using the principal component method was adopted to derive the dietary patterns. Conditional logistic regression was used to analyse the associations of dietary patterns with prevalent pre-eclampsia. We identified four distinct dietary patterns: high fruit-vegetable, high protein, high fat-grain and high salt-sugar. We found that high fruit-vegetable dietary pattern (quartile (Q)4 v. Q1, OR 0·71, 95 % CI 0·55, 0·92, Ptrend = 0·013) and high protein dietary pattern (Q4 v. Q1, OR 0·72, 95 % CI 0·54, 0·95, Ptrend = 0·011) were associated with a decreased odds of pre-eclampsia in Chinese pregnant women. Whereas high fat-grain dietary pattern showed a U-shaped association with pre-eclampsia, the lowest OR was observed in the third quartile (Q3 v. Q1, OR 0·75, 95 % CI 0·57, 0·98, Ptrend = 0·111). No significant association was observed for high salt-sugar dietary pattern. In conclusion, pregnancy dietary pattern characterised by high fruit-vegetable or high protein was found to be associated with a reduced odds of pre-eclampsia in Chinese pregnant women.

Abstract
Elevated blood pressure during pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, is in part a result of inflammatory processes related to pregnancy. Reducing risk for pre-eclampsia is important to improve birth outcomes and reduce morbidity and mortality. Nutritional status and dietary intake of key foods and nutrients can aid in the reduction of pre-eclampsia risk. Excessive gestational weight gain is associated with pre-eclampsia risk, however, fluid retention, may be the driver of this relationship. While diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and dietary fiber can reduce pre-eclampsia risk and adherence to a western diet pattern can increase risk. Other nutrients, which may improve hypertension, such as sodium or salt, have little to no effect on pre-eclampsia risk. Key nutrients impacting pre-eclampsia risk are described in this article.

Abstract
The literature on maternal dietary patterns and gestational hypertension (GH) risk is largely ambiguous. We investigated the associations of maternal dietary patterns with GH risk among 1092 pregnant women in a Chinese pre-birth cohort. We used both three-day food diaries (TFD) and food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) to assess the diets of pregnant women. Principal components analysis with varimax rotation was used to identify dietary patterns from the TFD and FFQ, respectively. In total, 14.5% of the participants were diagnosed with GH. Maternal adherence to a “Wheaten food−coarse cereals pattern (TFD)” was associated with a lower risk of GH (quartile 3 [Q3] vs. Q1, odds ratio [OR] = 0.53, 95%CI: 0.31, 0.90). Maternal adherence to a “Sweet food−seafood pattern (TFD)” was associated with lower systolic blood pressure (Q4 vs. Q1, β = −2.57, 95%CI: −4.19, −0.96), and mean arterial pressure (Q4 vs. Q1, β = −1.54, 95%CI: −2.70, −0.38). The protective associations of the “Sweet food-seafood (TFD)” and “Fish−seafood pattern (FFQ)” with the risk of GH were more pronounced among women who were overweight/obese before pregnancy (p for interaction < 0.05 for all). The findings may help to develop interventions and better identify target populations for hypertension prevention during pregnancy.

Abstract
Pre-eclampsia affects 3%-5% of pregnant women worldwide and is associated with a range of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes, including maternal and/or fetal death. It particularly affects those with chronic hypertension, pregestational diabetes mellitus or a family history of pre-eclampsia. Other than early delivery of the fetus, there is no cure for pre-eclampsia. Since diet or dietary supplements may affect the risk, we have carried out an up-to-date, narrative literature review to assess the relationship between nutrition and pre-eclampsia. Several nutrients and dietary factors previously believed to be implicated in the risk of pre-eclampsia have now been shown to have no effect on risk; these include vitamins C and E, magnesium, salt, ω-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (fish oils) and zinc. Body mass index is proportionally correlated with pre-eclampsia risk, therefore women should aim for a healthy pre-pregnancy body weight and avoid excessive gestational and interpregnancy weight gain. The association between the risk and progression of the pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia may explain the apparent benefit of dietary modifications resulting from increased consumption of fruits and vegetables (≥400 g/day), plant-based foods and vegetable oils and a limited intake of foods high in fat, sugar and salt. Consuming a high-fibre diet (25-30 g/day) may attenuate dyslipidaemia and reduce blood pressure and inflammation. Other key nutrients that may mitigate the risk include increased calcium intake, a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement and an adequate vitamin D status. For those with a low selenium intake (such as those living in Europe), fish/seafood intake could be increased to improve selenium intake or selenium could be supplemented in the recommended multivitamin/mineral supplement. Milk-based probiotics have also been found to be beneficial in pregnant women at risk. Our recommendations are summarised in a table of guidance for women at particular risk of developing pre-eclampsia.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of current study was to investigate the correlation between preeclampsia and food groups among pregnant women. METHODS This case-control study was done on pregnant women with a diagnosis of preeclampsia in Sabzevar. The control group was included non-infected postpartum women. RESULTS Intake of vegetables (OR = 0.952, CI: 0.724-0.985, p < 0.001), fruits (OR = 0.901, CI: 0.852-0.990, p = 0.012), nuts and legumes (OR = 0.712, CI: 0.531-0.848, p = 0.009), and sugars and sweets (OR = 1.254, CI: 1.112-1.497, p < 0.001) were related to the odds of preeclampsia. CONCLUSIONS Women with preeclampsia had lower intake of vegetables, fruits, milk and products, and also fluids. Intake of sugars and sweets compared with the intake of vegetables, fruits, nuts, and legumes was associated with increasing odds of preeclampsia.

Abstract
Healthy maternal diets can lower the odds of developing pre-eclampsia, a direct and second leading cause of maternal death, globally. However, there is a research gap in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), which bear a disproportionate burden of these deaths. The objectives of this systematic review were to: 1) evaluate the association between dietary patterns in pregnancy and hypertensive disorders, including pre-eclampsia for pregnant and postpartum women in LMIC, and 2) compile barriers and facilitators to an adequate maternal diet. A systematic search was performed on MEDLINE, Embase, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, African Journals Online, the WHO Regional Databases, 2 trial registries, Google Scholar, and reference lists. Included in the analysis were primary research studies of dietary patterns during pregnancy, with pregnancy hypertension outcome(s), and conducted in LMIC. Included studies were assessed using ROBINS-I risk of bias. Thirteen studies were included, of which 5 studies were included in a meta-analysis (Review Manager 5). Lower odds of pre-eclampsia were associated with adequate (compared with no or low) consumption of vegetables (OR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.18, 0.80; I2 = 85%; P = 0.01) and adequate (compared with no or low) consumption of fruit (OR: 0.42; 95% CI: 0.24, 0.71; I2 = 79%; P = 0.008). No firm conclusions could be drawn about the impact on pre-eclampsia odds of any of the following during pregnancy: high consumption of meat or grains; a "Western" diet; or alcohol consumption. More LMIC-based research is needed to explore whether the apparent beneficial effects of fruits and vegetables on pre-eclampsia incidence might be enhanced when maternal malnutrition is prevalent, and/or whether other sociodemographic factors might contribute.

Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a complex complication that occurs during pregnancy. Studies indicated that morbidity from PE exhibits marked variations among geographical areas. Disparities in the incidence of PE between China and the US may be due to differences in ethnicity and genetic susceptibility, maternal age, sexual culture, body mass index, diet, exercise, multiple pregnancies and educational background. These epidemiological differences may give rise to differences between the two countries in terms of diagnostic and therapeutic criteria for PE. PE may be largely attributed to susceptibility genes and lifestyles, such as diet, body mass index and cultural norms regarding sexual relationships. The epidemiologic differences of patients with PE between the two countries indicated that appropriate prevention plans for PE require to be developed according to local conditions.

Abstract
The maternal diet can potentially influence the life-course health of the child. A poor-quality maternal diet creates nutrient deficiencies and affects immune–metabolic regulation during pregnancy. The nutrient-based overall dietary quality can be assessed using the Nutrient-Rich Food Index 9.3 (NRF9.3), which measures adherence to the national reference daily values of nutrient intake. Pro- and anti-inflammatory nutrient intake can be assessed using the energy-adjusted dietary inflammatory index (E-DII), a comprehensive index of diet-derived inflammatory capacity. Using these indices, we assessed the overall dietary quality and inflammatory potential of pregnant women during mid-gestation in an urban area of Japan (n = 108) and found that there was a strong inverse correlation between the NRF9.3 and E-DII scores. Comparison of the scores among the tertiles of NRF9.3 or E-DII indicated that dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin A, and magnesium mainly contributed to the variability of both indices. Intake of vegetables and fruits was positively associated with high NRF9.3 scores and negatively associated with high E-DII scores, after adjustment for maternal age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, and educational level. Consistent with the previous studies that used dietary pattern analysis, this study also demonstrated that vegetables and fruits were the food groups chiefly associated with high dietary quality and low inflammatory potential among pregnant Japanese women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific syndrome caused by abnormal placentation. Although environmental chemicals, including some pesticides, are suspected of impairing placentation and promoting preeclampsia, its relationship with preeclampsia has been insufficiently explored. OBJECTIVES We aimed to investigate the relation between non-occupational exposure to pesticides during pregnancy and the risk of preeclampsia. METHODS The study cohort comprised 195 women with and 17,181 without preeclampsia from the ELFE birth cohort. We used toxicogenomic approaches to select 41 pesticides of interest for their possible influence on preeclampsia. We assessed household pesticide use (self-reported data), environmental exposure to agricultural pesticides (geographic information systems), and dietary exposure (food-frequency questionnaire with data from monitoring pesticide residues in food and water). Dietary exposures to pesticides were grouped into clusters of similar exposures to resolve collinearity issues. For each exposure source, pesticides were mutually adjusted, and odds ratios estimated with logistic regression models. RESULTS The quantity of prochloraz applied within a kilometer of the women's homes was higher in women with than without preeclampsia (fourth quartile vs. others; adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 1.54; 95%CI: 1.02, 2.35), especially when preeclampsia was diagnosed before 34 weeks of gestation (aOR = 2.25; 95%CI: 1.01, 5.06). The reverse was observed with nearby cypermethrin application (aOR = 0.59, 95%CI: 0.36, 0.96). In sensitivity analyses, women with preeclampsia receiving antihypertensive treatment had a significantly higher probability of using herbicides at home during pregnancy than women without preeclampsia (aOR = 2.20; 95%CI: 1.23, 3.93). No statistically significant association was found between dietary exposure to pesticide residues and preeclampsia. DISCUSSION While the most of the associations examined remained statistically non-significant, our results suggest the possible influence on preeclampsia of residential exposures to prochloraz and some herbicides. These estimations are supported by toxicological and mechanistic data.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to parameterize mid-trimester drop in blood pressure (BP) trajectory during pregnancy and to evaluate its utility for predicting preeclampsia. METHODS To develop parametric models for BP trajectory during pregnancy, we used data from 7923 Chinese pregnant women with 24 810 routine antenatal care visits. Then, we evaluated the utility of BP trajectory parameters for predicting clinician-diagnosed preeclampsia in a separate sample of 3524 pregnant women from a randomized controlled trial of prenatal vitamin supplementation conducted in the same area. We focused on parameters related to the mid-trimester BP drop, including the gestational age and BP value at the nadir (lowest point), change in BP, velocity, and area under curve during two periods (from 12 weeks of gestation to the nadir and from the nadir to 33 weeks of gestation). RESULTS All participants in our analysis had a mid-pregnancy drop in their SBP, DBP, and mean arterial pressure (MAP) trajectories. There were high correlations (|r| > 0.90) among trajectory parameters of the same BP measure. The final prediction model included selective parameters of SBP, DBP, and MAP trajectories, prepregnancy BMI and gestational age at the first antenatal care visit. The area under the receiver-operating curve for predicting preeclampsia was 0.886 (95% confidence interval 0.846--0.926) in the training dataset and 0.802 (0.708--0.895) in the validation dataset. CONCLUSION Our novel BP trajectory parameters are informative and can predict preeclampsia at a clinically acceptable level.

Abstract
Preeclampsia (PE) is a complication of pregnancy characterized by hypertension (HTN-Preg), and often proteinuria. If not managed promptly, PE could lead to eclampsia and seizures. PE could also lead to intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) and prematurity at birth. Although PE is a major cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Also, there is a wide variability in the incidence of PE, ranging between 2 and 8% of pregnancies in the Eastern, Western and Developing world, suggesting regional differences in the risk factors and predictors of the pregnancy-related disorder. Several demographic, genetic, dietary and environmental factors, as well as maternal circulating biomarkers have been associated with PE. Demographic factors such as maternal race and ethnicity could play a role in PE. Specific genetic polymorphisms have been identified in PE. Maternal age, parity, education and socioeconomic status could be involved in PE. Dietary fat, protein, calcium and vitamins, body weight, and environmental factors including climate changes and air pollutants could also play a role in PE. Several circulating cytoactive factors including anti-angiogenic factors and cytokines have also been associated with PE. Traditional midwifery care is a common practice in local maternity care units, while advanced perinatal care and new diagnostic tools such as uterine artery Doppler velocimetry have been useful in predicting early PE in major medical centers. These PE risk factors, early predictors and diagnostic tools vary vastly in different regions of the Eastern, Western and Developing world. Further understanding of the differences in the demographic, genetic, dietary and environmental factors among pregnant women in different world regions should help in designing a region-specific cluster of risk factors and predictors of PE, and in turn provide better guidance for region-specific tools for early detection and management of PE.

Abstract
During the gestational period, women need to have optimal health to meet fetal requirements for growth and development. Nutrition is one of the most important factors that can ensure a mother`s health and also that of their offspring. The role of maternal diet, before and during pregnancy, has been associated with adverse birth outcomes and a worsening of maternal health. Medical conditions that are closely related to dietary intake and may affect women before or during pregnancy have also been associated with the appearance of pathology in a newborn. To date, several studies have been carried out in order to identify the role of diet as a factor associated with child physiological and psychological health, both in the short and long term. Educating mothers regarding the influence of maternal dietary intake during pregnancy on infants’ health could represent a simple but effective target for public health policies to improve pregnancy nutrition, and therefore help to avoid newborn diseases through the development.

Adherence to a Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)-style Diet in Relation to Preeclampsia: A Case-Control Study. Sci Rep 2020; 10:9078. Abstract
Maternal diet is an important potential factor associated with the risk of preeclampsia. However, it is unclear whether adherence to a Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH)-style diet can reduce the development of preeclampsia. To examine the potential association, we conducted a hospital-based case-control study at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, China. A total of 449 cases with preeclampsia and 449 controls were studied. Dietary information was collected using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). DASH scores were calculated according to nutrients/food emphasised or minimised in the DASH diet. The calculated DASH scores ranged from 11 to 38 for all of the participants, and the DASH scores of the cases were significantly lower than those of the controls (23.48 ± 4.58 vs 24.51 ± 4.51; p = 0.001). Participants in the fourth quartile of the DASH score were 45% less likely to have preeclampsia than those in the first quartile in the crude model (Q4 vs Q1, odds ratio [OR]: 0.55; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.38, 0.80; ptrend = 0.001). The relationship remained significant in the model adjusted for multiple confounders, especially for major risk factors of preeclampsia (OR: 0.53; 95% CI: 0.36, 0.78; ptrend = 0.001). Our findings suggest an inverse relationship between adherence to a DASH-style diet and the odds of preeclampsia. Further larger-scale cohort studies or randomised controlled trials are warranted to confirm these relationships.
