Abstract
Aim To evaluate the effectiveness of Rapid Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP) compared to traditional instruction or other forms of learning on resuscitation training outcomes and on clinical and/or patient-related outcomes. Methods As part of the continuous evidence evaluation process of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation it was conducted this review and searched Medline, Embase and Cochrane from inception to Feb 12th, 2024. Risk of bias assessment was performed with the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions assessment tool and the Revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials. The GRADE approach was used to evaluate the overall certainty of evidence for each outcome. Results 4420 abstracts were retrieved by the initial search and 10 additional studies were identified through other resources. Sixty-five studies were selected for eligibility and nine simulated studies met the inclusion criteria. A meta-analysis was performed on three outcomes: time to chest compressions, time to defibrillation and time to first epinephrine given, which showed that RCDP had significantly shorter time to defibrillation and time to administration of epinephrine than controls. The overall certainty of evidence was very low across all outcomes due to risk of bias, inconsistency, indirectness, and imprecision. Conclusion It may be reasonable to include RCDP as an instructional design feature of basic and advanced life support training. However, substantial variations of delivering RCDP exist and there is no uniform use of RCDP. Further research is necessary on medium/long-term effects of RCDP training, and on the effects on different target groups of training.

Abstract
Background Basic life support (BLS) skills are crucial not only for healthcare workers but for all lay people as well. Timely recognition of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and the initiation of BLS by bystanders before the arrival of healthcare personnel may improve survival. There are several methods of spreading BLS skills and improve BLS skill retention among lay people. One of these methods can be the education of adolescent school children. The introduction of mandatory BLS education in schools was very effective in some European countries to increase the rate of bystander BLS. Methods/design The current study aims to investigate the efficacy of a BLS training and BLS curriculum among high school children in Hungary. Moreover, the investigators would like to optimise factors influencing skill retention in this first responder group and aim to compare two types of teaching methods: feedback given by the instructor or software-based feedback on the efficacy of chest compressions during the course. This study will be an interventional, assessor blinded, individually randomised parallel group trial recruiting 360 students. BLS skill retention will be assessed at the end of the course, two months after the training and six months after training. Discussion The current study will increase our knowledge on the methods educating BLS among high school children. The results will help us to create an effective BLS curriculum at schools.Trial registration: ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT06016153. Prospectively registered on 08/2023.

Abstract
Aims The aim of this study is to use generative artificial intelligence to perform bibliometric analysis on abstracts published at European Resuscitation Council (ERC) annual scientific congress and define trends in ERC guidelines topics over the last decade. Methods In this bibliometric analysis, the WebHarvy software (SysNucleus, India) was used to download data from the Resuscitation journal's website through the technique of web scraping. Next, the Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4 (ChatGPT-4) application programming interface (Open AI, USA) was used to implement the multinomial classification of abstract titles following the ERC 2021 guidelines topics. Results From 2012 to 2022 a total of 2491 abstracts have been published at ERC congresses. Published abstracts ranged from 88 (in 2020) to 368 (in 2015). On average, the most common ERC guidelines topics were Adult basic life support (50.1%), followed by Adult advanced life support (41.5%), while Newborn resuscitation and support of transition of infants at birth (2.1%) was the least common topic. The findings also highlight that the Basic Life Support and Adult Advanced Life Support ERC guidelines topics have the strongest co-occurrence to all ERC guidelines topics, where the Newborn resuscitation and support of transition of infants at birth (2.1%; 52/2491) ERC guidelines topic has the weakest co-occurrence. Conclusion This study demonstrates the capabilities of generative artificial intelligence in the bibliometric analysis of abstract titles using the example of resuscitation medicine research over the last decade at ERC conferences using large language models.

Abstract
Background App-linked real-time feedback-devices for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) aim to improve laypersons' resuscitation quality. Resuscitation guidelines recommend these technologies in training settings. This is the first study comparing resuscitation quality of all App-linked feedback-devices currently on market. Methods A prospective randomised simulation study was performed. After standardised instructions, participants performed 2-minutes compression-only CPR on a manikin without feedback (baseline). Afterwards, participants performed 4 × 2 min CPR with four different feedback devices in randomised order (CorPatch® Trainer, CPRBAND AIO Training, SimCPR®ProTrainer, Relay Response™) (intervention). CPR metrics (chest compression depth (CD), chest compression rate (CR), percentage of correct CD/CR (%), correct hand position, correct chest recoil, and technical preparation-time) were assessed. Devices data were compared to the baseline group using Wilcoxon testing with IBM SPSS (primary outcome). Differences between devices were analysed with ANOVA testing (secondary outcome). Normally distributed data were described as mean ± standard deviation (SD) and non-normally distributed data as Median [Interquartile range (IQR). CPR self-confidence was measured by means of questionnaire before and after feedback devices' use. Comparison was performed by students t-test. Results Forty participants were involved. SimCPR®ProTrainer was the only device, which resulted in guideline-compliant chest compressions (Mean ± SD:5.37 ± 0.76) with improved chest compression depth (p < 0.001), and percentage of correct chest compression depth (p < 0.001) compared to unassisted CPR (baseline). CorPatch® Trainer as the only device with audio-visual recoil instructions resulted in improved chest recoil (Mean ± SD:72.25 ± 24.89) compared to baseline (Mean ± SD:49.00 ± 42.20; p < 0.01), while the other three devices resulted in significantly lower chest recoil rates (CPRBAND AIO Training: 37.03 ± 39.90; p < 0.01, SimCPR®ProTrainer: Mean ± SD:39.88 ± 36.50; p = 0.03, Relay Response™: Mean ± SD:36.88 ± 37.73; p = 0.02). CPR quality when using the different feedback devices differ in chest compression depth (p = 0.02), chest compression rate (p < 0.001), percentage of correct chest compression depth/rate (p = 0.03/p = 0.04), and technical preparation-time (p < 0.001). Feedback-devices' use increased participant's CPR self-confidence (p < 0.001). Conclusion Although, CPR feedback devices show improved CPR performance in layperson in some metrics, none of the tested CPR feedback devices supported layperson in overall adequate CPR performance. More and better technical functionality is necessary, to fully utilise the potential of CPR feedback devices and to prevent a worsening of CPR performance when layperson use this technology.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Virtual reality (VR) is becoming increasingly popular to train health-care professionals (HCPs) to acquire and/or maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) basic or advanced skills. AIM To understand whether VR in CPR training or retraining courses can have benefits for patients (neonatal, pediatric, and adult), HCPs and health-care organizations as compared to traditional CPR training. METHODS A systematic review (PROSPERO: CRD42023431768) following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. In June 2023, the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) databases were searched and included studies evaluated in their methodological quality with Joanna Briggs Institute checklists. Data were narratively summarized. RESULTS Fifteen studies published between 2013 and 2023 with overall fair quality were included. No studies investigated patients' outcomes. At the HCP level, the virtual learning environment was perceived to be engaging, realistic and facilitated the memorization of the procedures; however, limited decision-making, team building, psychological pressure and frenetic environment were underlined as disadvantages. Moreover, a general improvement in performance was reported in the use of the defibrillator and carrying out the chest compressions. At the organizational level, one study performed a cost/benefit evaluation in favor of VR as compared to traditional CPR training. CONCLUSIONS The use of VR for CPR training and retraining is in an early stage of development. Some benefits at the HCP level are promising. However, more research is needed with standardized approaches to ensure a progressive accumulation of the evidence and inform decisions regarding the best training methodology in this field.

Abstract
Achievement of adequate ventilation skills during training courses is mainly based on instructors' perception of attendees' capability to ventilate with correct rate and chest compression:ventilation ratio, while leading to chest raising, as evidence of adequate tidal volume. Accuracy in evaluating ventilation competence was assessed in 20 ACLS provider course attendees, by comparing course instructors' evaluation with measures from a ventilation feedback device. According to course instructors, all candidates acquired adequate ventilation competence. However, data from the feedback device indicated a ventilation not aligned with current guidelines, with higher tidal volume and lower rate (p < 0.01). Deploying quality ventilation during CPR is a skill whose acquisition starts with effective training. Therefore, course instructors' capability to accurately evaluate attendees' ventilation maneuvers is crucial.

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to develop a smart training and assessment system called SmartCPR, for teaching and training cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), based on human posture estimation techniques. In this system, trainees can automatically recognize and evaluate whether chest compressions during CPR meet the standard of high-quality CPR by simply using a device such as a smart phone. Through the system, trainees are able to obtain real-time feedback on the quality of compressions so that they can adjust the cycle, depth, frequency, and posture of compressions to meet the standard of high-quality CPR. In addition, the SmartCPR system is convenient for CPR trainers. Trainers can instantly and accurately assess whether the trainee's compressions meet the standard of high-quality CPR, which reduces the risk of manual assessment errors and also reduces the trainer's teaching pressures. Therefore, the SmartCPR system developed in this study can be an important tool for CPR teaching and training for physicians, which can provide training and guidance for high-quality CPR maneuvers and enable trainees to become more proficient in CPR and self-training.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The retention of resuscitation skills is a widespread concern, with a rapid decay in competence frequently following training. Meanwhile, training programmes continue to be disconnected with real-world expectations and assessment designs remain in conflict with the evidence for sustainable learning. This study aimed to evaluate a programmatic assessment pedagogy which employed entrustment decision and the principles of authentic and sustainable assessment (SA). METHODS We conducted a prospective sequential explanatory mixed methods study to understand and address the sustainable learning challenges faced by final-year undergraduate paramedic students. We introduced a programme of five authentic assessments based on actual resuscitation cases, each integrating contextual elements that featured in these real-life events. The student-tutor consensus assessment (STCA) tool was configured to accommodate an entrustment scale framework. Each test produced dual student led and assessor scores. Students and assessors were surveyed about their experiences with the assessment methodologies and asked to evaluate the programme using the Ottawa Good Assessment Criteria. RESULTS Eighty-four students participated in five assessments, generating dual assessor-only and student-led results. There was a reported mean score increase of 9% across the five tests and an 18% reduction in borderline or below scores. No statistical significance was observed among the scores from eight assessors across 420 unique tests. The mean student consensus remained above 91% in all 420 tests. Both student and assessor participant groups expressed broad agreement that the Ottawa criteria were well-represented in the design, and they shared their preference for the authentic methodology over traditional approaches. CONCLUSION In addition to confirming local sustainability issues, this study has highlighted the validity concerns that exist with conventional resuscitation training designs. We have successfully demonstrated an alternative pedagogy which responds to these concerns, and which embodies the principles of SA, quality in assessment practice, and the real-world expectations of professionals.

The association of recent simulation training and clinical experience of team leaders with cardiopulmonary resuscitation quality during in-hospital cardiac arrest. Resuscitation 2024; 199:110217. Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the association of recent team leader simulation training (<6 months) and years of clinical experience (≥4 years) with chest compression quality during in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). METHODS This cohort study of IHCA in four Danish hospitals included cases with data on chest compression quality and team leader characteristics. We assessed the impact of recent simulation training and experienced team leaders on longest chest compression pause duration (primary outcome), chest compression fraction (CCF), and chest compression rates within guideline recommendations using mixed effects models. RESULTS Of 157 included resuscitation attempts, 45% had a team leader who recently participated in simulation training and 66% had an experienced team leader. The median team leader experience was 7 years [Q1; Q3: 4; 11]. The median duration of the longest chest compression pause was 16 s [10; 30]. Having a team leader with recent simulation training was associated with significantly shorter longest pause durations (difference: -7.11 s (95%-CI: -12.0; -2.2), p = 0.004), a higher CCF (difference: 3% (95%-CI: 2.0; 4.0%), p < 0.001) and with less guideline compliant chest compression rates (odds ratio: 0.4 (95%-CI: 0.19; 0.84), p = 0.02). Having an experienced team leader was not associated with longest pause duration (difference: -1.57 s (95%-CI: -5.34; 2.21), p = 0.42), CCF (difference: 0.7% (95%-CI: -0.3; 1.7), p = 0.17) or chest compression rates within guideline recommendations (odds ratio: 1.55 (95%-CI: 0.91; 2.66), p = 0.11). CONCLUSION Recent simulation training of team leaders, but not years of team leader experience, was associated with shorter chest compression pauses during IHCA.

Abstract
The experience and self-confidence of healthcare professionals play critical roles in reducing anxiety levels during emergencies. It is important to recognize the potential impact of anxiety on performance. To enhance preparedness and confidence in managing emergencies, healthcare professionals benefit from regular training and simulations. Additionally, repeated exposure to emergency scenarios can help modulate physiological responses. Managing anxiety effectively is key, as heightened sympathetic stimulation associated with anxiety can adversely affect performance. This study aimed to investigate nurses' self-assessed ability to manage emergency guidelines and their self-confidence in performing tasks in critical care settings. A questionnaire was provided to 1097 nurses. We compared the self-confidence of experienced nurses (ENs) and newly licensed nurses (NLNs) in managing emergency department shifts or critical patients, and found that ENs are more confident in these scenarios. This phenomenon was also observed in subjects who had taken simulation courses, although they were still a low percentage. Most NLNs feel sufficiently ready to work in medium-intensity wards. Attending advanced training courses enhances nurses' self-confidence and may improve patient safety management., improving patient recovery, and minimizing errors. Attending courses improves the perception of autonomy of nurses in different scenarios.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Retention of adult basic life support (BLS) knowledge and skills after professional training declines over time. To combat this, the European Resuscitation Council and the American Heart Association recommend shorter, more frequent BLS sessions. Emphasizing technology-enhanced learning, such as mobile learning, aims to increase out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survival and is becoming more integral in nursing education. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate whether playing a serious smartphone game called MOBICPR at home can improve and retain nursing students' theoretical knowledge of and practical skills in adult BLS. METHODS This study used a randomized wait list-controlled design. Nursing students were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to either a MOBICPR intervention group (MOBICPR-IG) or a wait-list control group (WL-CG), where the latter received the MOBICPR game 2 weeks after the MOBICPR-IG. The aim of the MOBICPR game is to engage participants in using smartphone gestures (eg, tapping) and actions (eg, talking) to perform evidence-based adult BLS on a virtual patient with OHCA. The participants' theoretical knowledge of adult BLS was assessed using a questionnaire, while their practical skills were evaluated on cardiopulmonary resuscitation quality parameters using a manikin and a checklist. RESULTS In total, 43 nursing students participated in the study, 22 (51%) in MOBICPR-IG and 21 (49%) in WL-CG. There were differences between the MOBICPR-IG and the WL-CG in theoretical knowledge (P=.04) but not in practical skills (P=.45) after MOBICPR game playing at home. No difference was noted in the retention of participants' theoretical knowledge and practical skills of adult BLS after a 2-week break from playing the MOBICPR game (P=.13). Key observations included challenges in response checks with a face-down manikin and a general neglect of safety protocols when using an automated external defibrillator. CONCLUSIONS Playing the MOBICPR game at home has the greatest impact on improving the theoretical knowledge of adult BLS in nursing students but not their practical skills. Abstract
BACKGROUND The main functions of healthcare professionals include training and health education. In this sense, we must be able to incorporate new technologies and serious game to the teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation. METHODS a multicenter, comparative and cross-sectional study was carried out to assess the learning of resuscitation of a group that was trained with the use of serious gaming with virtual reality, as compared to a control group trained with conventional classroom teaching. RESULTS the mean quality obtained in chest compressions for the virtual reality group was 86.1 % (SD 9.3), and 74.8 % (SD 9.5) for the control group [mean difference 11.3 % (95 % CI 6.6-16.0), p < 0.001]. Salivary Alpha-Amylase was 218.882 (SD 177.621) IU/L for the virtual reality group and 155.190 (SD 116.746) IU/L for the control group [mean difference 63.691 (95 % CI 122.998-4.385), p = 0.037]. CONCLUSION using virtual reality and serious games can improve the quality parameters of chest compressions as compared to traditional training.

Abstract
Aim Dispatcher-assisted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DA-CPR) is time-dependent. To date, evidence-based training programmes for dispatchers are lacking. This study aimed to reach expert consensus on an educational bundle content for dispatchers to provide DA-CPR using the Delphi method. Method An educational bundle was created by the Swedish Resuscitation Council consisting of three parts: e-learning on DA-CPR, basic life support training and audit of emergency out-of-hospital cardiac arrest calls. Thereafter, a two-round modified Delphi study was conducted between November 2022 and March 2023; 37 experts with broad clinical and/or scientific knowledge of DA-CPR were invited. In the first round, the experts participated in the e-learning module and answered a questionnaire with 13 closed and open questions, whereafter the e-learning part of the bundle was revised. In the second round, the revised e-learning part was evaluated using Likert scores (20 items). The predefined consensus level was set at 80%. Results Delphi rounds one and two were assessed by 20 and 18 of the invited experts, respectively. In round one, 18 experts (18 of 20, 90%) stated that they did not miss any content in the programme. In round two, the scale-level content validity index based on the average method (S-CVI/AVE, 0.99) and scale-level content validity index based on universal agreement (S-CVI/UA, 0.85) exceeded the threshold level of 80%. Conclusion Expert consensus on the educational bundle content was reached using the Delphi method. Further work is required to evaluate its effect in real-world out-of-hospital cardiac arrest calls.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Misinformation is currently recognised by the World Health Organization as an apparent threat to public health. This study aimed to provide an outline of published evidence on misinformation related to the potentially life-saving interventions - first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). STUDY DESIGN A scoping review. METHODS The review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. English-language publications describing original studies that evaluated the quality of publicly available information on first aid and/or CPR were included without limitations to the year of publication. RESULTS Forty-four original studies published between 1982 and 2023 were reviewed. Annual number of publications varied from 0 to 6. The studies have focused on the evaluation of information concerning initial care of cardiac arrest, choking, heart attack, poisoning, burns, and other emergencies. Forty three studies (97.7 %) have reported varying frequencies of misinformation, when public sources, including websites, YouTube videos, and modern artificial intelligence-based chatbots, omitted life-saving instructions on first aid or CPR or contained incorrect information that contradicted relevant international guidelines. Eleven studies (25.0 %) have also revealed potentially harmful advice, which, if followed by an unsuspecting person, may cause direct injury or death of a victim. CONCLUSIONS Misinformation concerning CPR and first aid cannot be ignored and demands close attention from relevant stakeholders to mitigate its harmful impacts. More studies are urgently needed to determine optimal methods for detecting and measuring misinformation, to understand mechanisms that drive its spread, and to develop effective measures to correct and prevent misinformation.

Abstract
Nurturing the development of the next generation of resuscitation scientists is essential for creating a vibrant and enabled community equipped with the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills to transform resuscitation practice and improve outcomes. In this concept paper we will describe the development and implementation of the first Young European Resuscitation Council Resuscitation Science Masterclass. The masterclass aims to connect, inspire, and support the growth of the next generation of resuscitation scientists through education, networking, and joint scientific work. The masterclass provides 20 international, multi-professional early career resuscitation scientists with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and network as well as conduct joint scientific work over the course of one year. This is achieved by interactive webinars, innovative online workshops, engaging online journal clubs as well as an educational in-person event to conclude the masterclass. The Young European Resuscitation Council Resuscitation Science Masterclass aims to strengthen the global resuscitation community and next generation of resuscitation scientists by facilitating opportunities of broader international initiatives and collaboration for early career resuscitation scientists, potentially leading to accelerated recruitment of future resuscitation leaders. Ultimately, this masterclass may enable early career researchers to produce high impact research that can shape the future of resuscitation science and improve cardiac arrest patient care globally.

Abstract
AIM To analyze the effectiveness of a teaching-learning methodology for teletraining in basic life support (BLS) based on communication through smart glasses. DESIGN Pilot quasi-experimental non-inferiority study. PARTICIPANTS Sixty college students. INTERVENTIONS Randomization of the participants in: tele-training through smart glasses (SG) and traditional training (C) groups. Both training sessions were very brief (less than 8 min) and included the same BLS content. In SG, the instructor trained through a video call with smart glasses. MAIN VARIABLES OF INTEREST The BLS protocol, the use of AED, the quality of resuscitation and the response times were evaluated. RESULTS In most of the BLS protocol variables, the resuscitation quality and performance times, there were no statistically significant differences between groups. There were significant differences (in favor of the SG) in the assessment of breathing (SG: 100%, C: 81%; p = 0.013), the not-to-touch warning before applying the shock (SG: 79%, C: 52%; p = 0.025) and compressions with correct recoil (SG: 85%, C: 32%; p = 0.008). CONCLUSIONS Laypeople BLS-AED brief tele-training through smart glasses could potentially be, at least, as effective as traditional training methods. In addition, smart glasses could be more advantageous than traditional teaching for certain points of the BLS protocol and chest compressions quality, probably due to the capability of real-time visualization of images which supports the BLS sequence. Augmented reality supported teaching should be considered for BLS training, although caution is required in extrapolating findings, and further in-depth studies are needed to confirm its potential role depending on concrete target populations and environments.

Abstract
Most of the studies in the field of willingness and barriers to resuscitation (CPR) were conducted before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The aim of the study was to assess the number and types of barriers to CPR among medical students after the pandemic ended. This study was based on a survey. The data was collected from 12 April 2022 to 25 May 2022. A total of 509 complete questionnaires were obtained. The number of barriers depending on the time elapsed from the last CPR course did not differ significantly (Me = 4 [IQR 2-6] vs. Me = 5 [IQR 3-7]; p = 0.054, respectively). The number of all barriers reported by respondents differed significantly and was higher in those reporting fear of coronavirus (Me = 4 [IQR 2-6] vs. Me = 7 [IQR 4-9]; p < 0.001, respectively). A total of 12 out of all 23 barriers were significantly more frequent in this group of respondents. Barriers to CPR are still common among medical students, even despite a high rate of CPR training. The pandemic significantly affected both the number and frequency of barriers. The group of strangers and children, as potential cardiac arrest victims, deserve special attention. Efforts should be made to minimize the potentially modifiable barriers.

Abstract
AIMS Individual studies that investigated the effect of standalone audio-visual feedback (AVF) devices during laypersons' cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training have yielded conflicting results. This review aimed to evaluate the effect of standalone AVF devices on the quality of chest compressions during laypersons' CPR training. METHOD AND RESULT Randomized controlled trials of simulation studies recruiting participants without actual patient CPR experience were included. The intervention evaluated was the quality of chest compressions with standalone AVF devices vs. without AVF devices. Databases, such as PubMed, Cochrane Central, Embase, Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Web of Science, and PsycINFO, were searched from January 2010 to January 2022. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. A meta-analysis alongside a narrative synthesis was used for examining the effect of standalone AVF devices.Sixteen studies were selected for this systematic review. A meta-analysis revealed an increased compression depth of 2.22 mm [95% CI (Confidence Interval), 0.88-3.55, P = 0.001] when participants performed CPR using the feedback devices. Besides, AVF devices enabled laypersons to deliver compression rates closer to the recommended range of 100-120 per min. No improvement was noted in chest recoil and hand positioning when participants used standalone AVF devices. CONCLUSION The quality of the included studies was variable, and different standalone AVF devices were used. Standalone AVF devices were instrumental in guiding laypersons to deliver deeper compressions without compromising the quality of compression rates. However, the devices did not improve the quality of chest recoil and placement of the hands. REGISTRATION PROSPERO: CRD42020205754.

Abstract
Aim To compare the effectiveness of Peyton's four-step approach for teaching resuscitation skills with alternative approaches. Methods For this systematic review, we followed the PICOST format (population, intervention, comparison, outcome, study design, timeframe) using Peyton's four-step approach as the standard. We included all studies analyzing skills training related to resuscitation and First Aid in any educational setting. Eligible were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized studies (non-randomized controlled trials, interrupted time series, controlled before-and-after studies, cohort studies, published conference abstracts, and case series where n ≥ 5). We excluded unpublished results (e.g. trial protocols), commentaries, editorials, reviews. Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, ERIC, CINAHL, and Cochrane were searched from inception until November 10, 2020 (updated November 25, 2022) for publications in all languages as long as there was an English abstract. Titles and abstracts of the papers retrieved were screened, and eligible publications were analysed in full text. From the final set of papers, data were extracted into a spreadsheet, subsequently risk of bias assessment was performed (using RoB2 and ROBINS-I), and the certainty of evidence (using GRADE) for each paper was assessed. Screening of studies, data extraction, risk-of-bias assessment, and assessment of certainty of evidence were all performed by two independent researchers. This review was conducted in adherence with PRISMA standards and was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023377398). Results Overall, the search identified 2,574 studies from which 17 were included in the final analysis (14 RCTs, and 3 non-RCTs). The studies involved a total of 2,906 participants from various populations (from lay persons to health care professionals) and analysed nine different resuscitation skills being taught (ranging from chest compressions to needle cricotomy). The alternative teaching approaches ranged from two-steps to five-steps with various modifications of single steps. High methodological and clinical heterogeneity precluded a meta-analysis from being conducted. The risk of bias assessment showed considerable variation between the studies ranging from 'low' to 'serious'. Across all studies, certainty of evidence was rated as very low due to imprecision and inconsistency. Overall, 14 out of 17 studies showed no difference in skill acquisition or retention when comparing Peyton's four steps to other stepwise approaches. Conclusions Very low certainty evidence suggest that Peyton's four-step approach was not more effective in resuscitation skills training compared to alternative approaches. Funding None.

Abstract
Background The integration of populations with various types of disabilities into basic life support (BLS) training programs could contribute to a potential increase in trained laypersons with BLS knowledge and, consequently, in survival rates. The objective of this study was to analyze the distinct educational methods which exist today on BLS for people with some type of specific disability, and to evaluate their impact on the quality of BLS maneuvers. Methods A scoping review in which the different training strategies in BLS for people with distinctive disabilities were analyzed was carried out. Previous studies were sought and researched in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from the beginning up to 4 August 2023. Results A total of 14 studies were thoroughly analyzed. The BLS training strategies for people with disabilities were classified according to the following criteria: objective (training, content validation or analysis of learning barriers), target population (visual, hearing, physical disabilities or Down syndrome), training resources (training with/without adaptation), contents (BLS and use of the automated external defibrillator) and evaluation instrument (i.e., the simulation test and knowledge questionnaire). The variety of BLS training programs for such population is limited. Likewise, people with different disabilities are able to effectively learn BLS maneuvers, although with mixed results, mainly in those regarding the CPR quality. Conclusion People with visual, hearing disabilities or Down syndrome are able to effectively learn BLS maneuvers.

Abstract
Foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) is a relatively common emergency and a potential cause of sudden death both in children and older people; bystander immediate action will determine the victim's outcome. Although many school children's basic life support (BLS) training programs have been implemented in recent years, references to specific training on FBAO are lacking. Therefore, the aim was to assess FBAO-solving knowledge acquisition in 10-13-year-old school children. A quasi-experimental non-controlled simulation study was carried out on 564 ten-to-thirteen-year-old children from 5 schools in Galicia (Spain). Participants received a 60-min training led by their physical education teachers (5 min theory, 15 min demonstration by the teacher, and 30 min hands-on training) on how to help to solve an FBAO event. After the training session, the school children's skills were assessed in a standardized adult's progressive FBAO simulation scenario. The assessment was carried out by proficient researchers utilizing a comprehensive checklist specifically designed to address the variables involved in resolving a FBAO event according with current international guidelines. The assessment of school children's acquired knowledge during the simulated mild FBAO revealed that 62.2% of participants successfully identified the event and promptly encouraged the simulated patient to cough actively. When the obstruction progressed, its severity was recognized by 86.2% and back blows were administered, followed by abdominal thrusts by 90.4%. When the simulated victim became unconscious, 77.1% of children identified the situation and immediately called the emergency medical service and 81.1% initiated chest compressions. No significant differences in performance were detected according to participants' age. Conclusion: A brief focused training contributes to prepare 10-13-year-old school children to perform the recommended FBAO steps in a standardized simulated patient. We consider that FBAO should be included in BLS training programs for school children. What is Known: • Kids Save Lives strategy states that school children should learn basic life support (BLS) skills because of their potential role as first responders. • This BLS training does not include content for resolving a foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO). What is New: • Following a 60-min theoretical-practical training led by physical education teachers, 10-13-year-old school children are able to solve a simulated FBAO situation. • The inclusion of FBAO content in BLS training in schools should be considered.

Abstract
Objective Given the lack of a unified tool for appraising the quality of educational resources for lay-rescuer delivery of adult basic life support (BLS), this study aimed to develop an appropriate evaluation checklist based on a consensus of international experts. Methods In a two-round Delphi study, participating experts completed questionnaires to rate each item of a predeveloped 72-item checklist indicating agreement that an item should be utilized to evaluate the conformance of an adult BLS educational resource with resuscitation guidelines. Consensus on item inclusion was defined as a rating of ≥7 points from ≥75% of experts. Experts were encouraged to add anonymous suggestions for modifying or adding new items. Results Of the 46 participants, 42 (91.3%) completed the first round (representatives of 25 countries with a median of 16 years of professional experience in resuscitation) and 40 (87.0%) completed the second round. Thirteen of 72 baseline items were excluded, 55 were included unchanged, four were included after modification, and four new items were added. The final checklist comprises 63 items under the subsections “safety” (one item), “recognition” (nine items), “call for help” (four items), “chest compressions” (12 items), “rescue breathing” (12 items), “defibrillation” (nine items), “continuation of CPR” (two items), “choking” (10 items) and “miscellaneous” (four items). Conclusions The produced checklist is a ready-to-use expert consensus–based tool for appraising the quality of educational content on lay-rescuer provision of adult BLS. The checklist gives content developers a tool to ensure educational resources comply with current resuscitation knowledge, and may serve as a component of a prospective standardized international framework for quality assurance in resuscitation education.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Recognition of cardiac arrest and initiation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be learned and adequately replicated by schoolchildren. Regular instruction of schoolchildren in CPR is therefore a core element to increase low bystander CPR rates. Thereby, schoolchildren CPR training evolved as own scientific field within the last decade. Aim was to describe current evidence in terms of epidemiology, teaching approaches and political aspects. RECENT FINDINGS Schoolchildren demonstrate a high motivation to be trained in CPR. Teaching approaches that combine theoretical and practical learning sessions guarantee a sustainable learning effect. Schoolchildren can adequately perform chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth ventilation from the age of 12 years. Use of digital media is a highly promising teaching approach. CPR training conducted by teachers from the own school is effective and guarantees continuous development of CPR skills. Integration of schoolchildren CPR training into school curricula is the foundation for a sustainable increase of lay resuscitation rates in the population. Scientific and political promotion of schoolchildren CPR training is needed to sensitize the population and move bystander CPR in the social focus. SUMMARY While bystander CPR rates are low in Europe comprehensive establishment of schoolchildren CPR training may sustainably increase survival after cardiac arrest.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Checklists are a powerful tool for reduction of mortality and morbidity. Checklists structure complex processes in a reproducible manner, optimize team interaction, and prevent errors related to human factors. Despite wide dissemination of the checklist, effects of checklist use in the prehospital emergency medicine are currently unclear. The aim of the study was to demonstrate that participants achieve higher adherence to guideline-recommended actions, manage the scenario more time-efficient, and thirdly demonstrate better adherence to the ABCDE-compliant workflow in a simulated ROSC situation. METHODS CHIPS was a prospective randomized case-control study. Professional emergency medical service teams were asked to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on an adult high-fidelity patient simulator achieving ROSC. The intervention group used a checklist which transferred the ERC guideline statements of ROSC into the structure of the 'ABCDE' mnemonic. Guideline adherence (performance score, PS), utilization of process time (items/minute) and workflow were measured by analyzing continuous A/V recordings of the simulation. Pre- and post-questionnaires addressing demographics and relevance of the checklist were recorded. Effect sizes were determined by calculating Cohen's d. The level of significance was defined at p < 0.05. RESULTS Twenty scenarios in the intervention group (INT) and twenty-one in the control group (CON) were evaluated. The average time of use of the checklist (CU) in the INT was 6.32 min (2.39-9.18 min; SD = 2.08 min). Mean PS of INT was significantly higher than CON, with a strong effect size (p = 0.001, d = 0.935). In the INT, significantly more items were completed per minute of scenario duration (INT, 1.48 items/min; CON, 1.15 items/min, difference: 0.33/min (25%), p = 0.001), showing a large effect size (d = 1.11). The workflow did not significantly differ between the groups (p = 0.079), although a medium effect size was shown (d = 0.563) with the tendency of the CON group deviating stronger from the ABCDE than the INT. CONCLUSION Checklists can have positive effects on outcome in the prehospital setting by significantly facilitates adherence to guidelines. Checklist use may be time-effective in the prehospital setting. Checklists based on the 'ABCDE' mnemonic can be used according to the 'do verify' approach. Team Time Outs are recommended to start and finish checklists.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The potential use of manikins made of environmentally friendly materials (biodegradable or easily recycled) could be a milestone in promoting cardiac arrest awareness and mass resuscitation training without the threat of generating large amounts of unprocessable waste. The main aim of the study was to compare the attitude of young adults from Asia and Poland towards cardiopulmonary resuscitation training forms and to evaluate the innovative concept of an ecological resuscitation manikin; Methods: This was a survey-based study conducted during two events in Thailand and Poland in 2023; Results: A total of 226 questionnaires were included in the final analysis. Asian respondents were significantly more likely to choose traditional training than Polish participants (78% vs. 58%, respectively). A manikin that is mainly biodegradable was the most common choice across the entire study group. Young Asians were significantly more likely to choose a traditional stationary course, while Polish respondents were highly significantly more likely to opt for hybrid training (online with practical training provided at the student's home). CONCLUSIONS In the total study group, young people from Poland and parts of Asia are most likely to participate in traditional on-site instructor-led training, but a comparison across groups showed a significant tendency for young Poles to choose a hybrid training option, i.e., a combination of online and hands-on training. Despite some differences, both study groups showed a strong interest in pro-environmental behavior and the use of more ecofriendly solutions than previously used in resuscitation training.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nursing students often report anxiety about the performance of resuscitation in a placement context. Rapid cycle deliberate practice which involves re-running the scenario after de-brief allowing for the correction of errors and improved practice has been widely used to develop skills in resuscitation. Few studies have examined the use of rapid cycle deliberate practice to improve resuscitation confidence and self-efficacy. OBJECTIVE to assess if rapid cycle deliberate practice leads to improvements in resuscitation self-efficacy in pre-registration nursing students. DESIGN Quasi-experimental pre and post-test design measuring self-efficacy using the Basic Resuscitation Skills - Self Efficacy Scale. SETTING University, United Kingdom. PARTICIPANTS Students were invited to participate (n = 120) and 106 consented to take part in the study. Participants were in pre-determined practical groups with 56 in the experimental group and 50 in the control group. METHODS A pre and post-test of nursing students' self-efficacy during a resuscitation simulation scenario. The scenario will relate to a patient admitted to the emergency room with chest pain who then goes into cardiac arrest. The control group undertake the simulation exercise and then received a de-brief whereas the experimental group participated in a rerun of the scenario following the de-brief (deliberate practice). Both groups completed the Basic Resuscitation Skills Self-efficacy scale pre and post the session. Data were analysed using a paired sample t-test. RESULTS Both groups showed improved self-efficacy as a result of the simulation session. The difference in the post-test mean scores between the control and the experimental group was marginal and not statistically significant. CONCLUSION rapid cycle deliberate practice simulation does not lead to improved resuscitation self-efficacy amongst pre-registration nursing students when compared with a single session. ABSTRACT Nursing students are often anxious about performing resuscitation in practice. Can rapid cycle deliberate practice improve resuscitation self-efficacy? Pre and post-test study (n=106) showed improved self-efficacy with no statistical difference between standard simulation and deliberate practice.

Abstract
Purpose Resuscitation guidelines have advocated the use of virtual learning as a form of pre-course e-learning. Virtual reality (VR) has been identified to provide a method of constructive learning with instant feedback. There are increasing publications of VR use in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training; however, there is a dearth from the dental profession. Therefore, the aim of this exploratory study was to investigate dental students' opinions in CPR training using VR.Methods In total, 120 dental students undertook both conventional (manikin) and VR CPR training in a cross-over design. The VR scenario was in a hospital setting. Following, students completed a questionnaire evaluating their experiences.Results The majority of students (n = 88) reported that this was the first time that they had utilised VR. The experience of using VR in CPR training was rated as very good. Most students felt that the inclusion of VR in CPR training created a better learning experience and had a high learning potential. However, the hospital setting was not entirely relevant.Conclusion Dental students recommended that VR CPR training should be used as an adjunct to conventional training in dental education, but the VR scenario would benefit being a virtual dental environment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in non-critical care hospital wards is a stressful event for the registered nurse; stress may negatively affect performance. Delays in initiating basic life support and following current basic life support algorithms have been reported globally. AIM The aim of this review was to investigate factors that can affect registered nurses' experiences of performing basic life support. METHODS Using the five-step integrative literature review method from Whittemore and Knafl, this review searched articles published between January 2000 and June 2022 for qualitative and quantitative primary studies from the databases CINAHL Complete (EBSCO), Medline (Web of Science), Scopus and PubMed. RESULTS Nine studies from eight countries met the inclusion criteria and were appraised here. Five themes relating to factors affecting the performance of basic life support were found during this review: staff interaction issues, confidence concerns, fear of harm and potential litigation, defibrillation concerns and basic life support training issues. CONCLUSIONS This review revealed several concerns experienced by registered nurses in performing basic life support and highlights a lack of research. Factors affecting nurses' experiences need to be understood. This will allow education to focus on consideration of human factors, or non-technical skills during basic life support training, as well as technical skills, to improve outcomes for patients experiencing an in-hospital cardiopulmonary arrest.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of serious game training on the performance of undergraduate dental students during basic life support (BLS) training. METHODS Students at the Ankara University Faculty of Dentistry were divided into two groups at random: Serious Game (SG) (n = 46) and Traditional (Tr) (n = 45). Students completed the BLS pre-test following their lecture-based training. The SG set of students practiced until they achieved an 85 on the BLS Platform, after which they completed the BLS post-test. All students practiced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on a manikin with the instructor's guidance, and then they independently applied CPR by using the model training component. The module evaluation scale was then used to determine each student's grade. Finally, the students provided input on surveys regarding technology perceptions of SG training, serious gaming, and hands-on training. RESULTS In the SG group, the BLS post-test scores were significantly higher than the pre-test results (p = 0.00). In the SG and Tr groups, there was no statistically significant difference in the overall hands-on training scores (p = 0.11). Students in both groups evaluated the hands-on training on the manikin favorably and with high levels of participation. CONCLUSIONS The SG-based training platform for BLS training has enhanced the BLS performance of undergraduate dental students in terms of knowledge and skill. It has been shown that digital learners have a beneficial impact on game-based learning outcomes; it is advised to use SGs and develop new games for various learning objectives.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this scoping review was to identify factors that would enable or hinder the opportunity for laypersons to undertake resuscitation education. METHODS We searched PubMed, Ovid EMBASE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) to identify studies published from January 1, 1966 to December 31, 2022 including factors that could influence laypersons to undertake resuscitation education. Data regarding participant characteristics, interventions, and design and outcomes of included studies were extracted. RESULTS Of the initially identified 6627 studies, 23 studies (20 cross-sectional and 3 cohort studies) were finally included. Among them, a wide variety of enablers and barriers were identified. High heterogeneity among studies was observed. We categorized factors into three themes: personal factors (age, sex, race, family status, language, prior experience of resuscitation, and immigration status), socioeconomic and educational factors (income, societal status, occupation and legislation, and educational attainment), and geographic factors (birthplace and habitancy). Several barriers were identified that affect laypersons from participating in resuscitation training, such as personal factors like advanced age, lower socioeconomic and educational status, as well as being part of marginalized groups due to race or language barriers. On the other hand, several enablers identified in the study included prior experiences of witnessing someone collapsing, awareness of automated external defibrillators in public locations, certain occupations, or legal requirements for training. CONCLUSIONS Various barriers and enablers were found to influence laypersons to participate in resuscitation training. To enhance layperson response to cardiac arrest, targeted initiatives that aim to eliminate barriers need to be initiated, and further research is required to explore factors relating to populations with special needs.

Abstract
Despite major advancements in cardiovascular medicine, sudden cardiac death (SCD) continues to be an enormous medical and societal challenge, claiming millions of lives every year. Efforts to prevent SCD are hampered by imperfect risk prediction and inadequate solutions to specifically address arrhythmogenesis. Although resuscitation strategies have witnessed substantial evolution, there is a need to strengthen the organisation of community interventions and emergency medical systems across varied locations and health-care structures. With all the technological and medical advances of the 21st century, the fact that survival from sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) remains lower than 10% in most parts of the world is unacceptable. Recognising this urgent need, the Lancet Commission on SCD was constituted, bringing together 30 international experts in varied disciplines. Consistent progress in tackling SCD will require a completely revamped approach to SCD prevention, with wide-sweeping policy changes that will empower the development of both governmental and community-based programmes to maximise survival from SCA, and to comprehensively attend to survivors and decedents' families after the event. International collaborative efforts that maximally leverage and connect the expertise of various research organisations will need to be prioritised to properly address identified gaps. The Commission places substantial emphasis on the need to develop a multidisciplinary strategy that encompasses all aspects of SCD prevention and treatment. The Commission provides a critical assessment of the current scientific efforts in the field, and puts forth key recommendations to challenge, activate, and intensify efforts by both the scientific and global community with new directions, research, and innovation to reduce the burden of SCD worldwide.

Abstract
First responders are an essential part of the chain (-mail) of survival as they bridge and reduce the time to first chest compressions and defibrillation substantially. However, in the peri-mission phase before and after being sent to a cardiac arrest, these first responders are in danger of being forgotten and taken for granted, and the potential psychological impact has to be remembered. We propose a standardized first responder support system (FRSS) that needs to ensure that first responders are valued and cared for in terms of psychological safety and continuing motivation. This multi-tiered program should involve tailored education and standardized debriefing, as well as actively seeking contact with the first responders after their missions to facilitate potentially needed professional psychological support.

Abstract
Background Simulating CPR scenarios in a clinical environment has been described as a method for mitigating latent safety threats. Therefore, we implemented regular inter-professional, multidisciplinary in-situ simulations in the emergency department (ED). Aim To iterate a line-up and action cards for initial CPR management. To examine the experiences among participants regarding attitudes towards simulation and if they perceived any benefits for their patients after the participation. Method In 2021 we performed 7 in-situ simulations (15-minute simulation, 15-minute hot debrief) in the ED with the CPR team including doctors and nurses from the ED and anaesthesiology department. A questionnaire was sent to the 48 participants the same day and after 3 and 18 months. Answers were given as yes/no or on a Likert scale 0-5 and are presented as median values with interquartile range (IQR) or frequencies. Results A line-up and 9 action cards were created. The response rate of the three questionnaires were 52, 23, and 43%, respectively. In total, 100% would recommend the in-situ simulation to a co-worker. Participants perceived that real patients (5 [3-5]) as well as themselves, (5 [3.5-5]), had benefited from the simulation up to 18 months after. Conclusion Thirty-minute in-situ simulations are feasible to implement in the ED and simulation observations were useful for development of standardised role descriptions for resuscitation in the ED. Participants self-report benefit for themselves as well as their patients.

Abstract
Aim of study This study aims to investigate feasibility and quality of a bilingual cardiopulmonary resuscitation training with interprofessional emergency teams from Germany and Poland. Methods As part of a cross-border European Territorial Cooperation (Interreg-VA) funded project a combined communication and simulation training was organised. Teams of German and Polish emergency medicine personnel jointly practised resuscitation. The course was held in both languages with consecutive translation.Quality of chest compression was assessed using a simulator with feedback application. Learning objectives (quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, adherence to guidelines, closed loop communication), and team performance were assessed by an external observer. Coopeŕs Team Emergency Assessment Measure questionnaire was used. Results Twenty-one scenarios with 17 participants were analysed. In all scenarios, defibrillation and medication were delivered with correct dosage and at the right time. Mean fraction of correct hand position was 85.7% ± 25.7 [95%-CI 74.0; 97.4], mean fraction of compression depth 75.1% ± 21.0 [95%-CI 65.6; 84.7], compression rate 117.7 min-1 ± 7.1 [95%-CI 114.4; 120.9], and chest compression fraction 83.3% ± 3.8 [95%-CI 81.6; 85.0].Quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation was rated as "fair" to "good", adherence to guidelines as "good", and closed loop communication as "fair". Bilingual teams demonstrated good situational awareness, but lack of leadership and suboptimal overall team performance. Conclusion Bilingual and interprofessional cross-border resuscitation training in German and Polish tandem teams is feasible. It does not affect quality of technical skills such as high-quality chest compression but does affect performance of non-technical skills (e.g. closed loop communication and leadership).

Abstract
AIM To determine the effect of different virtual reality training intervals on individual performance to facilitate the optimal implementation of medical virtual reality training. METHODS Emergency scenarios in virtual reality were performed by 36 medical students from the Medical University of Vienna. After baseline training, the participants were randomised into three groups of equal size and underwent virtual reality training at different time intervals (monthly, one training after 3 months, and no further training) before undergoing final assessment training after 6 months. RESULTS Group A, with monthly training exercises, improved their performance score significantly by 1.75 mean score points compared with Group B, who repeated baseline training after 3 months. Statistically significant difference was indicated when comparing Group A with Group C, which was not further trained and served as the control group. CONCLUSION One-month intervals are associated with statistically significant performance improvements compared with additional training after 3 months and to a control group without regular training. The results show that training intervals of 3 months or longer are insufficient to achieve high performance scores. Virtual reality training is a cost-effective alternative to conventional simulation-based training for regular practice.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: International institutions together with the World Health Organisation recommend the teaching of BLS in schools. Therefore, the objective of this research was to study the feasibility of teaching CPR and AED through the flipped classroom, exploring the medium- and long-term retention of knowledge and practical skills among high school students. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 260 secondary schoolchildren (137 in the experimental group (EG) and 123 in the control group (CG)) between 12 and 14 years old (M = 12.75 ± 1.02). Results: The data revealed that the EG obtained better post-course results in the correct position of the hands (p = 0.011), the depth of external cardiac compression (p > 0.001), and the mean time to apply an effective shock with the AED (p = 0.013). The CG obtained better results in compressions with complete chest re-expansion (p = 0.025). These differences disappeared at 6 months (p > 0.05) and 12 months (p > 0.05). Conclusions: A training program based on the flipped classroom is as effective and viable as traditional training, although more efficient since it is applied in less time, in the sequence of action in BLS, CPR skills, and the application of an effective shock with an AED.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide guidelines to define the place of human factors in the management of critical situations in anaesthesia and critical care. DESIGN A committee of nineteen experts from the SFAR and GFHS learned societies was set up. A policy of declaration of links of interest was applied and respected throughout the guideline-producing process. Likewise, the committee did not benefit from any funding from a company marketing a health product (drug or medical device). The committee followed the GRADE® method (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation) to assess the quality of the evidence on which the recommendations were based. METHODS We aimed to formulate recommendations according to the GRADE® methodology for four different fields: 1/ communication, 2/ organisation, 3/ working environment and 4/ training. Each question was formulated according to the PICO format (Patients, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome). The literature review and recommendations were formulated according to the GRADE® methodology. RESULTS The experts' synthesis work and application of the GRADE® method resulted in 21 recommendations. Since the GRADE® method could not be applied in its entirety to all the questions, the guidelines used the SFAR "Recommendations for Professional Practice" A means of secured communication (RPP) format and the recommendations were formulated as expert opinions. CONCLUSION Based on strong agreement between experts, we were able to produce 21 recommendations to guide human factors in critical situations.

Abstract
Ventilation is an important part of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The advanced airway mode and 30:2 mode are used for intubated and non-intubated patients, respectively. It is debatable that passive produced by 30 compressions can provide adequate tidal volume for 30:2 mode. In addition, the fragmented ventilation caused by continuous compression may result in ineffective ventilation. In the study, one pig was anaesthetized and intubated for 2 CPRs. Continuous chest compressions with ventilation and continuous chest compressions without mechanical ventilation were performed in 2 CPRs, respectively. Three 10-minute data segments including a period of normal ventilation (V segment), a period of only compressions without ventilation (C segment), and a period of compressions with ventilation (C-V segment) were used to analyze peek flow (PF), peek pressure (PP) and tidal volume. All the data was presented as mean ± standard deviation. Chest compression resulted in 14.90% increase in mean PP (2401.40 ± 94.75 Pa vs 2822.06 ± 291.10 Pa, p<0.05), 81.46% increase in average PF (319.58 ± 56.93 ml/s vs 579.92 ± 80.27 ml/s, p<0.05). The mean tidal volumes for C segment, V segment and C-V segment were 189.13 ml, 514.72 ml, and 429.26ml, respectively. Continuous compressions reduced the accumulative tidal volume, but when five compressions were made in one inspiratory phase, there is almost no loss of tidal volume (510.86 ± 47.24 ml vs 514.72 ± 29.25 ml, p<0.05). The study suggested the ventilator without feedback regulation might reduce the peek pressure during CPR and 5 compressions in 2 s inspiratory phase provided higher tidal volume.Clinical Relevance- This study shows that 150 chest compressions per minute provided greater tidal volume than 100 and 120 compressions per minute; continuous chest compressions could also provide a certain amount of oxygen supply.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Practical skills training is an essential part of medical education. An important example is the training of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, which are key to improve patient outcomes in life-threatening situations. However, despite practical training, BLS performance is often sub-optimal even among healthcare professionals and medical students. Finding more effective training methods is therefore of high importance. A promising method to enhance learning outcomes is reflective practice. The goal of the present study was to evaluate whether a short reflective practice intervention following standard BLS training (Peyton's 4-step approach) improves BLS training outcomes, reflected in higher BLS performance and higher self-confidence to perform BLS. METHOD 287 first-year medical students were randomly assigned to one of two BLS training conditions: 1) standard BLS training (ST), 2) ST followed by a 15-minute reflective practice exercise. Outcome parameters included objective BLS performance data assessed by a resuscitation manikin, and students' self-reported confidence in their BLS skills. Outcomes were assessed directly after the training (T0) and re-assessed one week later (T1). A two-way mixed model analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to examine the effect of the intervention on BLS performance and self-reported confidence. Significance was determined by two-sided 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS The intervention group performed significantly more effective compressions at T1 and began significantly faster with performing their first chest compression at T0 and T1, in comparison to the control group. No significant differences between study groups regarding their self-reported confidence to perform BLS were observed. CONCLUSION This research shows that standard BLS training accompanied with a simple, cost-effective reflective practice exercise can improve learners' BLS skill acquisition and retention. This shows that reflective practice has the potential to enhance practical skills training in medicine; yet, more empirical studies are needed to examine its broader applicability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The primary objective of this pilot study was to examine the effectiveness of teaching first aid to 6-8-year-old children within their primary school setting. The study aimed to address two key research questions: (1) Can children of this age group acquire first aid and trauma management skills from their schoolteachers? (2) How long do children retain the acquired first aid knowledge? METHODS A pilot experimental study with an educational intervention was conducted in a single primary school in Greece. A total of 60 schoolchildren aged 6-8 years were randomly selected for participation, with 30 children assigned to the training group and 30 children assigned to the control group, which did not receive any intervention. To assess the children's understanding of first aid, a specialized questionnaire was administered to all children one day before the training, as well as to the training group one day after the training, and at two and six months following the training. RESULTS Prior to the training, there were no significant differences in first aid knowledge between the children in the training group and those in the control group. However, one day after the training, the trained children demonstrated significantly higher scores (p < 0.05) compared to the control group. Over time, the first aid knowledge of the trained children gradually declined at the two- and six-month follow-up assessments, although it remained higher than their pre-training level. CONCLUSIONS First aid training provided by their teachers improved the knowledge of 6-8-year-old primary school children in first aid and trauma management.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Medical educational courses can be successful from an immediate feedback perspective but not lead to new behaviour or organisational changes in the workplace. The aim of this study was to assess the self-perceived impact of the European Trauma Course (ETC) on Reanima trainees' behaviour and organisational change. METHODS A 40-item questionnaire based on Holton's evaluation model was used to evaluate the candidate's perceptions. The results were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistical analysis using nonparametric tests with α = 0.05. RESULTS Out of 295 participants, 126 responded to the survey. Of these, 94% affirmed that the ETC modified their approach to trauma patients, and 71.4% described a change in their behaviour. Postcourse responders changed their behaviour in their initial approach to trauma care in the nontechnical skills of communication, prioritisation and teamwork. Being an ETC instructor strongly influenced the acquisition of new material, and this group was able to implement changes in attitudes. Individuals with no previous trauma course experience identified lack of self-efficacy as a significant obstacle to introducing new work-based learning. In contrast, responders with ATLS training noted a lack of ETC colleagues as the main impediment for moving from conceptualisation to experimentation in the workplace. CONCLUSIONS Participation in the ETC led to behavioural changes in the workplace. However, the ability to influence others and bring about wider organisational changes was more difficult to achieve. Major factors were the status of the person, their experience and self-efficacy. National organisational impact was obtained, which went far beyond our aspirations in acknowledging change in individual daily practice. Future research studies will include the effect of implementing the ETC methodology on the outcome of trauma patients.

Abstract
Aim To implement small methodological changes in basic life support (BLS) training to reduce unnecessary pauses during automated external defibrillator (AED) use. Methods One hundred and two university students with no BLS knowledge were randomly allocated into three groups (control and 2 experimental groups). Both experimental groups received a two-hour BLS training. While the contents were identical in both groups, in one of them the reduction of no-flow time was focused on (focused no-flow group). The control group did not receive any training. Finally, all of them were evaluated in the same out-of-hospital cardiac arrest simulated scenario. The primary endpoint was the compression fraction. Results Results from 78 participants were analysed (control group: 19; traditional group: 30; focused no-flow group: 29). The focused no-flow group achieved higher percentages of compression fraction (median: 56.0, interquartile rank (IQR): 53.5-58.5) than the traditional group (44.0, IQR: 42.0-47.0) and control group (52.0, IQR: 43.0-58.0) in the complete scenario. Participants from the control group performed compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), while the other groups performed compression-ventilation CPR. CPR fraction was calculated, showing the fraction of time in which the participants were performing resuscitation manoeuvres. In this case, the focused no-flow group reached higher percentages of CPR fraction (77.6, IQR: 74.4-82.4) than the traditional group (61.9, IQR: 59.3-68.1) and the control group (52.0, IQR: 43.0-58.0). Conclusions Laypeople having automated external defibrillation training focused on acting in anticipation of the AED prompts contributed to a reduction in chest compression pauses during an OHCA simulated scenario.

Abstract
Introduction Laypeople should be trained in basic life support and traditional and innovative methodologies may help to obtain this goal. However, there is a knowledge gap about the ideal basic life support training methods. Smart glasses could have a role facilitating laypeople learning of basic life support. Aim To analyze the potential impact on basic life support learning of a very brief training supported by smart glasses video communication. Methods Twelve laypeople were basic life support tele-trained by means of smart glasses by an instructor in this pilot study. During training (assisted trough smart glasses) and after the training (unassisted) participants' performance and quality of basic life support and automated external defibrillation procedure were assessed on a standardized simulated scenario. Results After the training all participants were able to deliver good quality basic life support, with results comparable to those obtained when real time remotely guided by the instructor through the smart glasses. Mean chest compression rate was significantly higher when not guided (113 /min vs. 103 /min, p = 0.001). When not assisted, the participants spent less time delivering the sequential basic life support steps than when assisted while training. Conclusions A very brief remote training supported by instructor and smart glasses seems to be an effective educational method that could facilitate basic life support learning by laypeople. This technology could be considered in cases where instructors are not locally available or in general in remote areas, providing basic internet connection is available. Smart glasses could also be useful for laypeople rolling-refreshers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Basic life support education for schoolchildren has become a key initiative to increase bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation rates. Our objective was to review the existing literature on teaching schoolchildren basic life support to identify the best practices to provide basic life support training in schoolchildren. METHODS After topics and subgroups were defined, a comprehensive literature search was conducted. Systematic reviews and controlled and uncontrolled prospective and retrospective studies containing data on students <20 years of age were included. RESULTS Schoolchildren are highly motivated to learn basic life support. The CHECK-CALL-COMPRESS algorithm is recommended for all schoolchildren. Regular training in basic life support regardless of age consolidates long-term skills. Young children from 4 years of age are able to assess the first links in the chain of survival. By 10 to 12 years of age, effective chest compression depths and ventilation volumes can be achieved on training manikins. A combination of theoretical and practical training is recommended. Schoolteachers serve as effective basic life support instructors. Schoolchildren also serve as multipliers by passing on basic life support skills to others. The use of age-appropriate social media tools for teaching is a promising approach for schoolchildren of all ages. CONCLUSIONS Schoolchildren basic life support training has the potential to educate whole generations to respond to cardiac arrest and to increase survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Comprehensive legislation, curricula, and scientific assessment are crucial to further develop the education of schoolchildren in basic life support.

Abstract
Background: Police first responder systems also including automated external defibrillation (AED) has in the past shown considerable impact on favourable outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). While short hands-off times in chest compressions are known to be beneficial, various AED models use different algorithms, inducing longer or shorter durations of crucial timeframes along basic life support (BLS). Yet, data on details of these differences, and also of their potential impact on clinical outcomes are scarce. Methods: For this retrospective observational study, patients with OHCA of presumed cardiac origin and initially shockable rhythm treated by police first responders in Vienna, Austria, between 01/2013 and 12/2021 were included. Data from the Viennese Cardiac Arrest Registry and AED files were extracted, and exact timeframes were analyzed. Results: There were no significant differences in the 350 eligible cases in demographics, return of spontaneous circulation, 30-day survival, or favourable neurological outcome between the used AED types. However, the Philips HS1 and -FrX AEDs showed immediate rhythm analysis after electrode placement (0 [0-1] s) and almost no shock loading time (0 [0-1] s), as opposed to the LP CR Plus (3 [0-4] and 6 [6-6] s, respectively) and LP 1000 (3 [2-10] and 6 [5-7] s, respectively). On the other hand, the HS1 and -FrX had longer analysis times of 12 [12-16] and 12 [11-18] s than the LP CR Plus (5 [5-6] s) and LP 1000 (6 [5-8] s). The duration from when the AED was turned on until the first defibrillation were 45 [28-61] s (Philips FrX), 59 [28-81] s (LP 1000), 59 [50-97] s (HS1), and 69 [55-85] s (LP CR Plus). Conclusion: In a retrospective analysis of OHCA-cases treated by police first responders, we could not find significant differences in clinical patient outcomes concerning the respective used AED model. However, various differences in time durations (e.g., electrode placement to rhythm analysis, analysis duration, or AED turned on until first defibrillation) along the BLS algorithm were seen. This opens up the question of AED-adaptations and tailored training methods for professional first responders.

Abstract
PURPOSE Mastering technical procedures is a key component in succeeding as a newly graduated medical doctor and is of critical importance to ensure patient safety. The efficacy of simulation-based education has been demonstrated but medical schools have different requirements for undergraduate curricula. We aimed to identify and prioritize the technical procedures needed by newly graduated medical doctors. METHODS We conducted a national needs assessment survey using the Delphi technique to gather consensus from key opinion leaders in the field. In the first round, a brainstorm was conducted to identify all potential technical procedures. In the second round, respondents rated the need for simulation-based training of each procedure using the Copenhagen Academy for Medical Education and Simulation Needs Assessment Formula (CAMES-NAF). The third round was a final elimination and prioritization of the procedures. RESULTS In total, 107 experts from 21 specialties answered the first round: 123 unique technical procedures were suggested. Response rates were 58% and 64% in the second and the third round, respectively. In the third round, 104 procedures were eliminated based on the consensus criterion, and the remaining 19 procedures were included and prioritized. The top five procedures were: (i) insert peripheral intravenous catheter, (ii) put on personal protection equipment, (iii) perform basic airway maneuvers, (iv) perform basic life support, and (v) perform radial artery puncture. CONCLUSION Based on the Delphi process a final list of 19 technical procedures reached expert consensus to be included in the undergraduate curriculum for simulation-based education.
