Abstract
Schiff base ligand (L) was obtained by condensation reaction between 4-aminopyrimidin-2(1H)-one (cytosine) with 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde. The synthesized Schiff base was used for complexation with Cu(II) and Fe(II) ions used by a molar (2 : 1 mmol ration) in methanol solvent. The structural features of ligand, Cu(II), and Fe(II) metal complexes were determined by standard spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, elemental analysis, proton and carbon NMR spectra, UV/VIS, and mass spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, thermal analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction). The synthesized compounds (Schiff base and its metal complexes) were screened in terms of their anti-proliferative activities in U118 and T98G human glioblastoma cell lines alone or in combination with electroporation (EP). Moreover, the human HDF (human dermal fibroblast) cell lines was used to check the bio-compatibility of the compounds. Anti-proliferative activities of all compounds were ascertained using an MTT assay. The complexes exhibited a good anti-proliferative effect on U118 and T98G glioblastoma cell lines. In addition, these compounds had a negligible cytotoxic effect on the fibroblast HDF cell lines. The use of compounds in combination with EP significantly decreased the IC50 values compared to the use of compounds alone (p<0.05). These results show that newly synthesized Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes can be developed for use in the treatment of chemotherapy-resistant U118 and T98G glioblastoma cells and that treatment with lower doses can be provided when used in combination with EP.

Abstract
Transition metal complexes of 4-aminoantipyrine derivatives have been gaining great interest due to their rich coordination chemistry and potential applications in the field of pharmaceutical science. The presence of a free amine and a cyclic ketone functionality makes 4-aminoantipyrine an attractive amphoteric substrate for Schiff base formation. Varieties of aldehydes/ketones or amines of versatile steric, electronic and functional nature could be condensed with the 4-aminoantipyrine motif to obtain the ligand systems of multi-denticity and diverse coordination behaviour. The transition metal complexes obtained from these ligand systems exhibit unique structural and functional properties. This review compiles the important transition metal complexes developed from the Schiff base derivatives of 4-aminoantipyrine, and their utility as antibacterial and antifungal agents. Rationale of the strategies involved in the development of highly potential antimicrobial agents is discussed.

Abstract
Four mononuclear bioefficient imine-based coordination complexes, [(L 1 ) 2 Cu], [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)], and [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)], were synthesized using ligands [L 1 = 2-(((3-hydroxynaphthalen-2-yl)methylene)amino)-2-methylpropane-1,3-diol and L 2 = 4-(1-((1,3-dihydroxy-2-methylpropan-2-yl)imino)ethyl)benzene-1,3-diol]. The formation of the complexes was ascertained by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, electrospray ionization-mass spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, and thermogravimetric analysis. The comparative binding propensity profiles of the above-synthesized complexes with the DNA/human serum albumin (HSA) were investigated via UV absorption, fluorescence, and Förster resonance energy-transfer studies. On the basis of extended conjugation and planarity, L 1 complexes exhibited superior bioactivity with greater calculated DNA binding constant values, (K b) 2.9444 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] and 2.2693 × 103 [(L 1 ) 2 Zn], as compared to L 2 complexes, 1.793 × 103 [(L 2 )Cu(H 2 O)] and 9.801 × 102 [(L 2 )Zn(H 2 O)]. The competitive displacement assay of complexes was performed by means of fluorogenic dyes (EtBr and Hoechst), which corroborates the occurrence of minor groove binding because of the enhanced displacement activity with Hoechst 33258. The minor groove binding of the [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex is further confirmed by the molecular docking study. Moreover, the HSA study demonstrated effective static quenching of complexes with substantial K sv values. The [(L 1 ) 2 Cu] complex was found to have pronounced cleavage efficiency as evaluated from sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis electrophoresis. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide radicals further proclaimed the remarkable bioefficiency of compounds, which make them promising as active chemotherapeutic agents.

Abstract
We present an inclusive characterization of the unimetallic and heterobimetallic complexes of copper synthesized using CuCl2 and diamine (4-fluoro 1,2-phenylenediamine) resulting in monometallic complex which further undergoes treatment with organometallic dichlorides of group 4 and 14 in 1 : 2 molar ratio resulting in heterobimetallic complexes. These complexes thoroughly characterized using various physical, analytical, and spectroscopic techniques indicate square planar and distorted octahedral geometry for the synthesized unimetallic and heterobimetallic complexes, respectively. These complexes were evaluated for their antimicrobial efficacy against various bacterial and fungal strains while hepatoprotective activity was also examined in male albino rats.

Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO) is a good adsorbent for heavy-metal ions because the oxygen functional groups offer active adsorption sites, but a small-size GO with dense oxygen-containing groups has high water solubility causing difficulty in separation. Herein, GO is bound to large brianyoungite (BY) by Zn-O coordination via a hydrothermal reaction that produces BY-GO composites with hollow spherical and flakelike morphologies that are easy to remove. By producing abundant oxygen-containing groups on GO, the Cu(2+) adsorption capacity increases to 1724.1 mg/g, which is the highest value in graphene-related materials. The experimental and theoretical analysis clearly shows that the infrared spectral shifts toward the low-frequency side of C-O-H and O═C-O bending vibrations in the BY-GO composites stem from the Zn(2+) (or Cu(2+)) coordination with O atoms in GO. The BY-GO also exhibits tunable deep-red photoluminescence up to 750 nm with a quantum yield of about 1%, which may be useful in infrared optoelectronic devices and solar energy exploitation. The photoluminescence which is different from that previously reported from chemically derived GO can be attributed to the optical transition in the disorder-induced localized states of the carbon-oxygen functional groups.

Abstract
The ligand, N(2),N(3)-bis(3-nitrophenyl)quinoxaline-2.3-diamine was prepared by the condensation of quinoxaline-2.3(1,4H)-dione with 3-nitroaniline. It was treated with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) acetates to form the metal complexes. These were characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic moment, UV-Vis., IR, (1)H NMR, ESR and mass spectral data. Octahedral geometry has been assigned to Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes, whereas Cu(II) complex has distorted octahedral geometry. From the powder XRD data, crystallite size and unit cell parameters were calculated. The surface morphology of the synthesized compounds were determined using SEM analysis. The antimicrobial activity of the compounds against some bacterial species viz. Escherichiacoli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeuruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus; also the fungal species, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans were done by disc diffusion method. DNA binding, cleavage and super oxide anion scavenging activities were also evaluated. The DNA binding activity of the compounds were identified using electronic absorption titrations and DNA cleavage was determined using gel electrophoresis. The anticancer activities of the compounds against HeLa cell line were determined using MTT assay. The highly potent compound among the five against HeLa cell line is subjected to molecular docking study against human papilloma virus receptor molecule and ATP binding site of telomerase.

Abstract
Mononuclear Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes of an unsymmetric Schiff base ligand, 3-(-(3-(-3,5-dichloro-2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)propylimino)methyl)quinoxalin-2(1H) -one (L) were synthesized and characterized by various analytical and spectral techniques. The molar conductance values of metal complexes indicate non-electrolytic behavior of the metal complexes. The Schiff base act as tetra dentate ONNO donor ligand in Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II) complexes and tridentate NNO donor in Cu(II) complex. Thermal stabilities of the newly synthesized compounds were determined by thermal analysis. Crystallinity, average grain size and unit cell parameters were determined from powder X-ray diffraction study. Electrochemical behaviors of the compounds were examined by cyclic voltammetry technique. The Schiff base and its complexes have been screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activities against some bacterial and fungal strains by disc diffusion method. The interaction of the compounds with calf thymus DNA (CT DNA) has been investigated by electronic absorption spectral titration and viscosity measurement (hydrodynamic) methods. Furthermore, the pUC18 DNA cleavage activities of the complexes have been explored. The compounds were also subjected to in vitro antioxidant, anticancer activity screening, druglikeness and bioactivity predictions using Molinspiration software. Molecular docking studies of the present compounds were carried out against B-DNA dodecamer d(CGCGAATTCGCG)2 and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor (VEGFR-2) kinase. Quantum chemical calculations were done with DFT method to determine the optimum geometry of the ligand and its metal complexes. From the quantum chemical parameters, the reactivity parameters of the compounds were established.

Abstract
Novel bioactive 5-chloro isatin based Schiff base ligands, (N,N'E,N,N'Z)-N,N'-(5-chloroindoline-2,3-diylidene)bis(5-nitrobenzo [d]thiazol-2-amine), L(1) and (N,N'E,N,N'Z)-N,N'-(5-chloroindoline-2,3-diylidene)bis(5-nitrothiazol-2-amine), L(2) derived from 2-amino 5-nitrobenzothiazole and 2-amino 5-nitrothiazole and their metal complexes, [Cu(L(1))2]Cl2;1, [Zn(L(1))2(H2O)2]Cl2;2, [Cu(L(2))2]Cl2;3 and [Zn(L(2))2(H2O)2]Cl2;4 have been synthesized. The composition, stoichiometry and geometry of the proposed ligands and their complexes have been envisaged by the results of elemental analyses and spectroscopic data (FT-IR, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR, Mass and EPR). The molar conductivity values of the metal complexes revealed their ionic nature. The thermal stability of metal complexes was demonstrated by TGA/DTA studies while the crystalline nature of the complexes has been ascertained by XRD. Furthermore, a comparative account of in vitro antibacterial study against different bacterial strains with respect to standard antibiotic and scavenging activity against standard control at different concenterations unfolded pronounced antibacterial and radical scavenging potencies of the metal complexes as compared to free ligands. In addition, in vitro cytotoxicity of ligands and its metal complexes was also screened on MCF7 (Human breast adenocarcinoma), HeLa (Human cervical carcinoma) and HepG2 (Human Hepatocellular carcinoma), cell lines and normal cells (PBMC). The antiproliferative outcomes revealed that metal complexes exhibit superior activity in general as compared to free ligands (L(1) and L(2)) where metal complexes (1 and 2) of 5-chloro isatin linked benzothiazole motif (L(1)) are found to have better prospect of acting as chemotherapeutic agents which can be explained in terms of greater biopotency, planarity and conjugation against all the tested cancer cell lines with IC50<2.80 μM.

Abstract
The interaction of a hematoxylin(HE)-Dy(Ш) complex with herring sperm DNA(hsDNA) was studied using acridine orange(AO) as a probe by UV-vis absorption, circular dichroism(CD), fluorescence spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. From the results of the probe experiment, we found that the HE-Dy(Ш) complex could compete with AO for intercalating into hsDNA. The binding constants of the HE-Dy(Ш) complex to hsDNA was obtained by the double reciprocal method and indicated that the affinity between hsDNA and the complex is weaker than that between hsDNA and classical intercalators. The thermodynamic parameters(ΔH°, ΔG°, ΔS°) were calculated from the UV-vis absorption data measured at two different temperatures. Further experimental results suggested that there exist groove binding and partial intercalation binding between hsDNA and HE-Dy(Ш) complex.

Abstract
The coordination behavior of a series of transition metal ions named Cr(III), Fe(III), Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) with a mono negative tridentate guaifenesin ligand (GFS) (OOO donation sites) and 1,10-phenanthroline (Phen) is reported. The metal complexes are characterized based on elemental analyses, IR, (1)H NMR, solid reflectance, magnetic moment, molar conductance, UV-vis spectral studies, mass spectroscopy, ESR, XRD and thermal analysis (TG and DTG). The ternary metal complexes were found to have the formulae of [M(GFS)(Phen)Cl]Cl·nH2O (M=Cr(III) (n=1) and Fe(III) (n=0)), [M(GFS)(Phen)Cl]·nH2O (M=Mn(II) (n=0), Zn(II) (n=0) and Cu(II) (n=3)) and [M(GFS)(Phen)(H2O)]Cl·nH2O (M=Co(II) (n=0), Ni(II) (n=0) and Cd(II) (n=4)). All the chelates are found to have octahedral geometrical structures. The ligand and its ternary chelates are subjected to thermal analyses (TG and DTG). The GFS ligand, in comparison to its ternary metal complexes also was screened for their antibacterial activity on gram positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus), gram negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Neisseria gonorrhoeae) and for in vitro antifungal activity against (Candida albicans). The activity data show that the metal complexes have antibacterial and antifungal activity more than the parent GFS ligand. The complexes were also screened for its in vitro anticancer activity against the Breast cell line (MFC7) and the results obtained show that they exhibit a considerable anticancer activity.
