Abstract
A new inorganic-organic hybrid complex, namely [Cu3L2(DMF)2]·H2O (Cu-L), has been synthesized using a sulfur-rich ligand, 3,3',3''-(1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triyltrisulfanediyl)tripropanoic acid (H3L) and metal cations under hydrothermal conditions. The metal atoms are interconnected to form a paddle-wheel-like structure, which is ultimately linked to the ligands to create a three-dimensional architecture. Cu-L, employed to fabricate an electrochemical sensor denoted as Cu-L@GCE (glassy carbon electrode), is capable of simultaneously detecting Cd2+ and Pb2+ at approximately -0.82 V and -0.58 V (vs. Ag/AgCl reference), exhibiting high sensitivity and selectivity. Cu-L@GCE demonstrates broad linear detection ranges of 8-28 μM for Cd2+ and 2-14 μM for Pb2+, along with low limit of detection (LOD) values of 0.01363 μM and 0.00212 μM, respectively. Furthermore, Cu-L@GCE achieves LOD values of 0.00209 μM and 0.000034 μM when detecting both ions simultaneously. The constructed sensor successfully detects Cd2+ and Pb2+ in mineral water, tap water, and river water with satisfactory recoveries. Additionally, the adsorption performance for organic dyes has been studied in detail using Cu-L as an adsorbent. The results indicate good adsorption selectivity for methylene blue (MB) and neutral red (NR) compared to methyl orange (MO) and rhodamine B (RhB) molecules.

Abstract
Using 2,3-diaminopyridine and citric acid as precursors, blue fluorescent nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) with a narrow size distribution (∼7.2 nm) were prepared and applied in the following assay for mercury ion detection at a weight ratio of 2,3-diaminopyridine:citric acid = 1:1 (0.2 g: 0.2 g, 20 mL for H2O), 220 °C, and 10 h. NCQDs was characterized by TEM, FT-IR, XPS, UV-Vis and EDS, and the prepared NCQDs display excitation-independent behavior due to less surface defects and uniform size. The optimal excitation and emission wavelengths of the NCQDs were 380 nm and 430 nm, respectively. Interestingly, the fluorescence of the NCQDs could be rapidly and selectively quenched by Hg2+ within 9 min at room temperature without further modification. Under optimal conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) was measured to be at the nanomolar level (42.4 nmol/L) with a linear range of 0-5.0 μmol/L, and fluorescence analysis of NCQDs was successfully used for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of mercury ions in food samples. Furthermore, our results revealed that fluorescence quenching occurred under the common fluences of the inner filter effect, and the static quenching effect was authenticated in the process in which Hg2+ coordinates with the NCQDs to form nonfluorescent complexes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and salicylic acid (SA), pivotal regulators in plant growth, are integral to a variety of plant physiological activities. The ongoing and simultaneous monitoring of these hormones in vivo enhances our comprehension of their interactive and regulatory roles. Traditional detection methods, such as liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, cannot obtain precise and immediate information on IAA and SA due to the complexity of sample processing. In contrast, the electrochemical detection method offers high sensitivity, rapid response times, and compactness, making it well-suited for in vivo or real-time detection applications. RESULTS A microneedle electrochemical sensor system crafted from disposable stainless steel (SS) wire was specifically designed for the real-time assessment of IAA and SA in plant in situ. This sensor system included a SS wire (100 μm diameter) coated with carbon cement and multi-walled carbon nanotubes, a plain platinum wire (100 μm diameter), and an Ag/AgCl wire (100 μm diameter). Differential pulse voltammetry and amperometry were adopted for detecting SA and IAA within the range of 0.1-20 μM, respectively. This sensor was applied to track IAA and SA fluctuations in tomato leaves during PstDC3000 infection, offering continuous data. Observations indicated an uptick in SA levels following infection, while IAA production was suppressed. The newly developed disposable SS wire-based microneedle electrochemical sensor system is economical, suitable for mass production, and inflicts minimal damage during the monitoring of SA and IAA in plant tissues. SIGNIFICANCE This disposable microneedle electrochemical sensor facilitates in vivo detection of IAA and SA in smaller plant tissues and allows for long-time monitoring of their concentrations, which not only propels research into the regulatory and interaction mechanisms of IAA and SA but also furnishes essential tools for advancing precision agriculture.

Abstract
Pollution by heavy metal ions has a serious impact on human health and the environment, which is why the monitoring of heavy metal ions is of great practical importance. In this work, we describe the development of an electrochemical sensor for the detection of cadmium (Cd2+) involving the doping of porous SiO2 spheres with ZnO nanoparticles. Zinc oxide is chosen as the central dopant in the composite material to increase the conductivity and thus improve the electrochemical detection of Cd2+ ions with the SiO2 spheres. The resulting composite is characterized by electrochemical spectroscopic XRD and microscopic methods. As a result, the developed sensor shows good selectivity towards the targeted Cd2+ ions compared to other divalent ions. After optimization of the experimental conditions, the electrochemical sensor shows two different linear ranges between 2.5 × 10-11 molL-1 to 1.75 × 10-10 molL-1 and 2 × 10-9 molL-1 to 1.75 × 10-9 molL-1, indicating a change from diffusion-controlled to surface-controlled oxidation of Cd2+. A detection limit was reached at 4.4 × 10-11 molL-1. In addition, it offers good repeatability and recovery, and can detect accurate trace amounts of Cd2+ ions in real samples such as tap water or seawater by spiking these samples with known Cd2+ concentrations. This setup also provides satisfactory recovery rates in the range of 89-102%.

Abstract
Conventional plate electrodes were commonly used in electrochemical flow injection analysis and only part of molecules diffused to the plane of electrodes could be detected, which would limit the performance of electrochemical detection. In this study, a low-cost native stainless steel wire mesh (SSWM) electrode was integrated into a 3D-printed device for electrochemical flow injection analysis with a pass-through mode, which is different compared with previous flow-through mode. This strategy was applied for sensitive analysis of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) released from cells. Under the optimal conditions (the applied potentials, the flow rate and the sample volume), the device exhibits high sensitivity toward H2O2. Linear relationships could be achieved between electrochemical responses and the concentration of H2O2 ranging from 1 nM to 1 mM. The excellent analytical performance of the SSWM-based device could be attributed to the pass-through mode based on the mesh microstructure and intrinsic catalytic properties for H2O2 by stainless steel. This approach could be further successfully extended for screening of H2O2 released from HeLa cells with electrochemical responses linear to the number of cells in a range of 3 - 1.35 × 104 cells with an injection volume of 30 μL. This study revealed the potential of mesh electrodes in electrochemical flow injection analysis for cellular function and pathology and its possible extension in cell counting and on-line analysis.

Abstract
Rapid and accurate on-site detection of crop-absorbable cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) in soils is important for food security and human health. The automated soil sample pretreatment method, including the ultrasonic extraction of weakly acid-soluble heavy metals, suction-filtration, and UV photolysis, was proposed to achieve the high-efficiency preparation from soil sample to extract solution. Bismuth-film-modified glass carbon electrode combined with the homemade potentiostat was fabricated to implement the square-wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) measurements of soil extracts. The peak-information-acquisition algorithm was designed to automatically obtain peak heights and widths of Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, Bi3+, and Cu2+ stripping currents, and then which were used as input variables for establishing machine-learning models to enhance the detection accuracy of SWASV to Cd2+ and Pb2+ under the coexistence of multiple heavy metal ions. Eventually, the smartphone-controlled integrated-automated detection equipment was developed and successfully applied to the automatic pretreatment of soil samples and the determination of weakly acid-soluble Cd2+ and Pb2+ in real soil samples. The detection speed was 75 min/sample, and the detection results were close to the standard method (BCR-ICP-MS). This equipment can provide powerful technical support for on-site rapid and accurate determination of crop-absorbable heavy metals in soils.

Abstract
The development of an effective sensing platform is critical for the electrochemical detection of heavy metal ions (HMIs) in water. In this study, we fabricated a newly designed sensor through the in situ assembly of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and polyphosphate nanoparticles (polyP NPs) on a carbon cloth electrode via microorganism-mediated green biochemical processes. The characterization results revealed that the rGO produced via microbial reduction had a three-dimensional porous structure, serving as an exceptional scaffold for hosting polyP NPs, and the polyP NPs were evenly distributed on the rGO network. In terms of detecting HMIs, the numerous functional groups of polyP NPs play a major role in the coordination with the cations. This electrochemical sensor, based on polyP NPs/rGO, enabled the individual and simultaneous determination of lead ion (Pb2+) and copper ion (Cu2+) with detection limits of 1.6 nM and 0.9 nM, respectively. Additionally, the electrode exhibited outstanding selectivity for the target analytes in the presence of multiple interfering metal ions. The fabricated sensor was successfully used to determine Pb2+/Cu2+ in water samples with satisfactory recovery rates ranging from 92.16% to 104.89%. This study establishes a facile, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly microbial approach for the synthesis of electrode materials and the detection of environmental pollutants.

Abstract
Considering the high risk of heavy metal ions (HMIs) transferring through the food chain and accumulating in milk, a flexible and facile point-of-care testing (POCT) platform is urgently needed for the accurate, sensitive, and highly selective on-site quantification of multiple HMIs in milk. In this work, a cost-effective disk with six screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) was designed for hand-held electrochemical detection. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) were adopted to amplify and enhance the electrochemical signals of methylene blue (MB). Using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) methods, low limits of detection for four HMIs (Cd2+, 0.039 ppb; Hg2+, 0.039 ppb; Pb2+, 0.073 ppb; and As3+, 0.022 ppb) were achieved within four minutes. Moreover, the quantitative POCT system was applied to milk samples. The advantages of low cost, ease of on-site implementation, fast response, and accuracy allow for the POCT platform to be used in practical monitoring applications for the quantitation of multiple HMIs in milk samples.

In the area affected by non-ferrous metal mining activities, mercury (Hg) contamination in the water and sediments posed potential risks to ecology and human health. In this study, river water and sediment samples were collected in the Zijiang river - South Dongting Lake basin to analyze Hg residues, identify potential Hg sources and evaluate the ecological and health risks posed by Hg contamination. In this study, the average concentrations of THg, PHg, DHg and DMeHg in river water were 38.05 ± 27.13 ng/L, 25.18 ± 26.83 ng/L, 12.88 ± 9.64 ng/L and 0.29 ± 0.07 ng/L, respectively. The THg and MeHg contents in sediments were 234.24 ± 152.93 µg/kg and 0.48 ± 0.16 µg/kg, respectively. The more enrichment of Hg in sediments was observed in the Zijiang River than in the South Dongting Lake, especially in the upstream and midstream regions. Two potential Hg sources in the basin were identified by correlation matrix, principal component analysis (PCA) and positive matrix factorization (PMF) model. The comparable Hg flux with other rivers worldwide was found in the Zijiang River (0.53 Mg/y). Furthermore, it was found by the delayed geochemical hazard (DGH) model that the ecological risk of Hg was more significant in the Zijiang River with more frequent transformation pathways. For different populations, the health risk values caused by Hg were all lower than the USEPA's guideline value. This study provided sound evidence for further control of Hg contamination.

A 3D-printed analytical device seamlessly integrating sample treatment for electrochemical detection of IAA in Marchantia polymorpha. Anal Bioanal Chem 2023; 415:1385-1393. Abstract
Because of the pivotal point of Marchantia polymorpha (M. polymorpha) in plant evolution, its auxin (mainly indole-3-acetic acid, IAA) levels could provide useful evidence for the study of the evolution of IAA. However, M. polymorpha could not be easily pretreated for electrochemical detection because they are at the entry level of land plants. Herein, we designed a three-dimensional (3D)-printed analytical device for seamless integration of sample treatment and electrochemical detection. Specifically, the electrochemical cell could be used as a mortar in which a tiny plant sample could be ground with a 3D-printed pestle, followed by mixing with the buffer solution under vibration for electrochemical detection of IAA with a disposable working electrode at the bottom of the cell. Using our strategy, the limits of quantification could reach 0.05 μmol L-1 after optimization of parameters. We were able to demonstrate that IAA in different tissues of wild-type and mutant M. polymorpha could be successfully differentiated after they were treated with the 3D-printed analytical device. The obtained results were comparable to the samples blended with zirconium beads while the differences of IAA levels in different tissues of M. polymorpha agreed well with previous reports. This study suggested the potential of sample treatment integrated with electrochemical detection for analysis of IAA using the 3D printing techniques and their possible applications in the research of plants and other fields.

Abstract
The detection of phytohormones in real time has attracted increasing attention because of their critical roles in regulating the development and signaling of plants, especially in defense against biotic stresses. Herein, stainless steel sheet electrodes modified with carbon cement were coupled with paper-based analysis devices for direct and simultaneous detection of salicylic acid (SA) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in plants. We demonstrated that the excellent conductivity of stainless steel sheet electrodes enabled us to simultaneously differentiate IAA and SA at a level of 10 nM. With our approach, the content of IAA and SA in Arabidopsis thaliana leaves infected or not infected with Pst DC3000 could be rapidly quantified at the same time. Our experimental results on differentiation of IAA and SA at different time points showed that there were antagonistic interactions between the IAA and SA after infection of Arabidopsis leaves with Pst DC3000. By offering a cost-effective approach for rapid and sensitive detection of IAA and SA, this study suggests that electrochemical detection can be used in the study and development of precision agriculture technology.

Abstract
Heavy metal ion pollution has always been a stringent problem facing the global environment. Therefore, the detection of heavy metal ions has been extremely important and challenging. An efficient and simple method for the preparation of carbon-supported X-manganate (XNi, Zn, and Cu) nanocomposites was explored for the individual and simultaneous electrochemical detection of Pb(II) and Hg(II). The metallic salt solutions were mixed with graphene to form the precursors through a hydrothermal reaction, and calcined in the air to obtain the final products. The structure and morphology of the synthesized NiMn2O4-graphene (NMO-GR), ZnMn2O4-graphene (ZMO-GR), and CuMn2O4-graphene (CMO-GR) nanocomposites were characterized by various methods, and NMO-GR showed more excellent electrochemical performances by square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) than ZMO-GR and CMO-GR. NMO-GR provided a large specific surface area, abundant reaction sites, and good electrical conductivity, thereby enhancing its electrochemical performance. The electrochemical sensor based on NMO-GR displayed the widest linear ranges (1.4-7.7 μM for Pb(II) and 0.7-6.7 μM for Hg(II)) and with the lowest detection limits (0.050 μM for Pb(II) and 0.027 μM for Hg(II)) than ZMO-GR and CMO-GR. This study offered a new way to simultaneously detect Pb(II) and Hg(II), and greatly expanded its application in the field of electrochemistry.

Abstract
Stainless steel is a frequently used and cost-effective material. In this study, we discovered for the first time that fresh 316ss possessed an intrinsic peroxidase (POD) catalytic activity, which can catalyze the substrate of POD-like reaction 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) changing to a blue-colored product, oxidation of TMB, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Subsequently, a rapid method was conducted to enable the active composites of the 316ss with reused POD activity for 25 circles at least. Based on this finding, the method exhibits a highly sensitive and selective application for H2O2, glutathione (GSH), and Glucose determination. The linear range of glucose detection was 5-100 μM and the detection limit was 3 μM. Finally, this method was further used for detection of glucose in human serum. This work finds a new function of 316ss and develops its novel application, which promotes the potential application of nanozyme in nanoscience and nanotechnology. Schematic representation of the enzyme mimic activities of 316ss wire mesh for the colorimetric detection of hydrogen peroxide H2O2 and GSH with a superior reusability for more than 25 cycles. Based on this, the colorimetric detection of glucose can be constructed combined with GOx.

Abstract
A colorimetric probe based on a hybrid sensing system of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), and thymine (Thy) was developed for easy and rapid detection of copper (II) ions (Cu2+) in solution. The underlying principle of this probe was the Cu2+-triggered aggregation of the nanoparticle components. Color change of the sensing solution (from red to purple) was clearly observed with naked eyes. The experimental parameters, including pH and concentration of tris buffer, thymine concentration and AgNP dilution ratios, were investigated and optimized. Once optimized, the limits of detection were found to be 1, 0.09 and 0.03 ppm for naked eyes, smartphone application and UV-vis spectrophotometer, respectively. Furthermore, determination of Cu2+ was accomplished within 15 min under ambient conditions. For quantitative analysis, the linearity of detection was observed through ranges of 0.09−0.5 and 0.03−0.5 ppm using smartphone application and UV-vis spectrophotometer, respectively, conforming to the World Health Organization guideline for detection of copper at concentrations < 2 ppm in water. This developed hybrid colorimetric probe exhibited preferential selectivity toward Cu2+, even when assessed in the presence of other metal ions (Al3+, Ca2+, Pb2+, Mn2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Fe3+, Ni2+, Co2+, Hg2+ and Cd2+). The developed procedure was also successfully applied to quantification of Cu2+ in real water samples. The recovery and relative standard deviation (RSD) values from real water sample analysis were in the ranges of 70.14−103.59 and 3.21−17.63%, respectively. Our findings demonstrated a successful development and implementation of the Thy-AuNP-AgNP hybrid sensing system for rapid, simple and portable Cu2+ detection in water samples using a spectrophotometer or a smartphone-based device.

Abstract
Aim:
Here, we report a simple strategy for the preparation of thermally exfoliated graphite (EG) and its application to modify glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surfaces for electrochemical Cu2+ ion sensing.
Method:
The electrochemical Cu2+ sensor was constructed by a layer modification of a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) with exfoliated graphite (EG) and chitosan (CS) as a binder, and CS also supports a large number of -NH2 functional groups for Cu2+ capture.
Result:
Due to the creation of a three-dimensional (3D) structure, the EG/CS-coated GCE (EG/CS/GCE) electrode exhibited a higher sensitivity towards Cu2+ detection than that of modification by graphite/chitosan (GP/CS), chitosan (CS) or graphite intercalated compounds (GIC)/chitosan.
Conclusion:
The proposed method could detect Cu2+ in the range of 10 µM to 3 mM with a detection limit of 0.5 µM and sensitivity of 43.62 μA mM-1.

Abstract
Cost-effective simultaneous determination of mercury, copper and cadmium ions was performed by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) using a pencil graphite electrode (PGE) modified with poly-L-cysteine (P-L-Cys) and Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Electropolymerization of L-cysteine was performed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) through applying different cycles. Also, Fe3O4 was deposited in a single step by applying a constant potential on the electrode surface in the presence of ferric nitrate. To enhance the sensitivity of measurement, several parameters such as monomer concentration, scan rate, number of cycles in electropolymerization, ferric nitrate concentration, Fe3O4 electrodeposition potential and time, and pH of the sample solution were optimized. The surface morphology of the modified electrode was examined by SEM and FTIR. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was conducted to investigate the impedance of the electrode surface. The linear ranges for cadmium, copper and mercury were 0.001‒2500, 0.0002‒3600 and 0.0001‒2500 nM with detection limits of 6.4 × 10-13, 1.0 × 10-13 and 9.0 × 10-14 M, respectively. The stability and reproducibility of the electrode were investigated. Finally, the modified electrode was applied to determine mercury, copper and cadmium in real samples such as the groundwater, Caspian Sea and Tajan River water.

Abstract
As one of the pivotal signal molecules, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has been demonstrated to play important roles in many physiological processes of plants. Continuous monitoring of H2O2 in vivo could help understand its regulation mechanism more clearly. In this study, a disposable electrochemical microsensor for H2O2 was developed. This microsensor consists of three parts: low-cost stainless-steel wire with a diameter of 0.1 mm modified by gold nanoparticles (disposable working electrode), an untreated platinum wire with a diameter of 0.1 mm (counter electrode), and an Ag/AgCl wire with a diameter of 0.1 mm (reference electrode), respectively. The microsensor could detect H2O2 in levels from 10 to 1000 µM and exhibited excellent selectivity. On this basis, the dynamic change in H2O2 in the vein of tomato leaf under high salinity was continuously monitored in vivo. The results showed that the production of H2O2 could be induced by high salinity within two hours. This study suggests that the disposable electrochemical microsensor not only suits continuously detecting H2O2 in microscopic plant tissue in vivo but also reduces the damage to plants. Overall, our strategy will help to pave the foundation for further investigation of the generation, transportation, and elimination mechanism of H2O2 in plants.

Abstract
Heavy metal pollution in the environment poses a serious threat to the ecosystem and human health, which has attracted widespread attention. In this study, an octahedral structure composite composed of UiO-66-NH2 MOFs and semiconductor GaOOH materials has been prepared and used as electrode materials successfully. These composites can be used for the real-time and online determination of Cd2+, Cu2+, Hg2+, and Pb2+ in real water samples simultaneously or alone via an electrochemical method. Zr-MOF has a large and unique surface area that is beneficial to the adsorption and preconcentration of heavy metal ions. The experiment parameters such as pH, deposition potential, and deposition time were optimized. Under the optimized conditions, the electrochemical performances and practical applications of Zr-MOF composites modified electrode have been investigated, which shows excellent wider linear range and lower detection limit (LOD). The results demonstrated excellent selectivity, reproducibility, stability and applicability for the detection of four metal ions. These superior features stem from the synergistic reaction mechanism of UiO-66-NH2 and GaOOH. In addition, it has been established a new detection strategy for heavy metal ions through the form of metal-organic framework (MOF) composite in this work. It may provide a novel platform for the quantitative determination of heavy metal ions in various environmental samples.

Anodic Stripping Voltammetry with the Hanging Mercury Drop Electrode for Trace Metal Detection in Soil Samples. CHEMOSENSORS 2021. Abstract
The widely spread use of the hanging mercury drop electrode (HMDE) for multi-ion analysis is primarily ascribed to the following reasons: (i) excellent reproducibility owing to the easy renewal of the electrode surface avoiding any hysteresis effect (i.e., a new identical drop is generated for each measurement to be accomplished); (ii) a wide cathodic potential window originating from the passive hydrogen evolution and solvent electrolysis; (iii) the ability to form amalgams with many redox-active metal ions; and (iv) the achievement of (sub)nanomolar limits of detection. On the other hand, the main controversy of the HMDE usage is the high toxicity level of mercury, which has motivated the scientific community to question whether the HMDE deserves to continue being used despite its unique capability for multi-metal detection. In this work, the simultaneous determination of Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ using the HMDE is investigated as a model system to evaluate the main features of the technique. The analytical benefits of the HMDE in terms of linear range of response, reproducibility, limit of detection, proximity to ideal redox behavior of metal ions and analysis time are herein demonstrated and compared to other electrodes proposed in the literature as less-toxic alternatives to the HMDE. The results have revealed that the HMDE is largely superior to other reported methods in several aspects and, moreover, it displays excellent accuracy when simultaneously analyzing Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ in such a complex matrix as digested soils. Yet, more efforts are required towards the definitive replacement of the HMDE in the electroanalysis field, despite the elegant approaches already reported in the literature.

Abstract
The massive discharge of pollutants including endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), heavy metals, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) into water bodies is endangering the ecological environment and human health, and needs to be accurately detected. Both electrochemical and photo-electrochemical detection methods have been widely used for the detection of these pollutants, however, which one is better for the detection of different environmental pollutants? In this feature article, different electrochemical and photo-electrochemical detection methods are summarized, including the principles, classification, common catalysts, and applications. By summarizing the advantages and disadvantages of different detection methods, this review provides a guide for other researchers to detect pollutants in water bodies by using electrochemical and photo-electrochemical analysis.

Abstract
A series of different facile modification layers (MLs) was designed to gradually increase the electrochemical sensing performance of glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for simultaneously detecting Pb2+ and Cu2+. ML designs were mainly a different combination of ZIF-67, MWCNT and Nafion, and their different electrochemical sensing performances were investigated by cyclic voltammetry (CV), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), square wave stripping voltammetry (SWSV) and chronocoulometry. The fabricated sensor, which modified with ZIF-67/MWCNT and Nafion layer, exhibited the biggest response peak current to Pb2+ and Cu2+. In addition, it displayed a wide linear detection range of 1.38 nM-5 μM for Pb2+ and 1.26 nM-5 μM for Cu2+, a detection accuracy of about 1 nM for both Pb2+ and Cu2+, and an excellent stability for both Pb2+ and Cu2+. We also analyzed the real water sample taken from Changchun's Sanjia Lake and Yan Lake. We believe this ML design provides instruction for building high-performance electrochemical sensing systems.

Abstract
In present study, a sensitive and efficient method based on magnetic PAMAM dendrimers as the sorbents for magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) coupled with high performance liquid-phase chromatography and ultraviolet variable wavelength detector (HPLC-VWD) was developed for simultaneous determination of trace cadmium and mercury ions. Sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (DDTC-Na) was used as the chelating agent during the elution process. Parameters that would affect the extraction efficiency including PAMAM generation, adsorbent dosage, adsorption time, elution time and volume, pH and coexisting ions were investigated to achieve the best adsorption efficiency. Under the optimal conditions, good linear relationship was obtained in the range of 0.05-200 μg L-1 for Cd2+ and 0.1-200 μg L-1 for Hg2+, and the limits of detection were 0.016 and 0.040 μg L-1, respectively. The spiked recoveries of Cd2+ and Hg2+ were satisfied in the range of 91.5-105% (n = 3). The proposed method was proved to be an alternative and reliable method to determine trace Cd2+ and Hg2+ in water samples.

Abstract
Mercury ion (Hg2+), a bioaccumulating and toxic heavy metal, can cause severe damages to the environment and human health. Therefore, development of high-performance Hg2+ sensors is highly desirable. Herein, we construct a uniform dodecahedral shaped N-doped carbon decorated by single Fe site enzyme (Fe-N-C SAE), which exhibits good performance for Hg2+ detection. The N atom on Fe-N-C SAE can specifically recognize Hg2+ through chelation between Hg2+ and N atom, while the catalytic site on the single-atom enzyme acts as a signal amplifier. The Fe-N-C SAE-functionalized solution-gated graphene transistor exhibits a dramatic improvement in the selectivity and sensitivity of the devices. The sensor can rapidly detect Hg2+ down to 1 nM within 2 s. Besides, a relatively good repeatability and reproducibility for the detection of Hg2+ have also been found in our sensor platform. Our findings expand the application of single-atom catalysts in the field of food safety and environmental monitoring.

Abstract
There is an urgent need to construct highly selective low-cost sensors for fast detection of toxic metal ions such as cadmium. When compared with 3D bulk materials, 2D layered materials after activation treatments show superior performances for electrochemical metal ion detection. The bulk graphitic carbon nitride (hereafter b-g-C3N4) was prepared by thermal polymerization with urea as a precursor; it was then activated through ultrasonic liquid exfoliation and protonation which resulted in successful fabrication of activated ultrathin g-C3N4 nanosheets (hereafter a-g-C3N4). The a-g-C3N4-modified glassy carbon electrode demonstrates excellent electrochemical performances for Cd2+ detection with 22.668 μA/μM sensitivity and 3.9 nM LOD (S/N = 3) due to high specific surface area and active sites created on the 2D layered structure. The chemical interference of Pb2+, Cu2+, and Hg2+ on Cd2+ detection was minimal. We have also measured Cd2+ in natural water and rice samples using the newly developed a-g-C3N4-modified electrode with high spike recoveries. Our results demonstrate the potential applications of newly developed a-g-C3N4-modified electrode for rapid detection of toxic metal ions in different sample matrixes. Graphical Abstract The activated g-C3N4 nanosheets (a-g-C3N4) were synthesized and used to construct electrochemical sensors with high sensitivity and anti-interference performance.

Abstract
A novel SBA-15-based fluorescent sensor, SBA-PI: mesoporous SBA-15 structure modified with iminostilbene groups, was designed, synthesized, and characterized by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), low-angle X-ray diffraction techniques (low-angle XRD), and N2 adsorption-desorption techniques. The SBA-PI as a sensor with a selective behavior for detection of Cu2+ comprises iminostilbene carbonyl as the fluorophore group. The SBA-PI sensor displays an excellent fluorescence response in aqueous solutions and the fluorescence intensity quenches remarkably upon addition of Cu2+. Other common interfering ions even at high concentration ratio showed either no or very small changes in the fluorescence intensity of SBA-PI in the absence of Cu2+. A limit of detection of 8.7 × 10-9 M for Cu2+ indicated that this fluorescence sensor has a high sensitivity and selectivity toward the target copper (II) ion. The fabricated Cu2+ sensor was successfully applied for the determination of the Cu2+ in human blood samples without any significant interference. With the selective analysis of Cu2+ ions down to 0.9 nM in blood, the sensor is a promising and a novel detection candidate for Cu2+ and can be applied in the clinical laboratory. A reversibility and accuracy in the fluorescence behavior of the sensor was found in the presence of I¯ that was described as a masking agent for Cu2+. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
An effective dithiourea-appended 1,8-naphthalimide fluorescent probe was designed and synthesized. This probe could recognize Hg2+ and Ag+ sensitively and selectively in neutral and alkaline conditions. Moreover, the probe detected Hg2+ alone at pH between 2 and 6. The sensing ability of the probe was explored by UV-vis, fluorescence, FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The probe was quenched by Hg2+ and Ag+ with 1:1 binding ratios in MeCN/H2O (4/1, v/v) mixed solution with binding constants of 3.76 × 104 L mol-1 and 2.47 × 104 L mol-1, respectively. The linear concentration ranges for Hg2+ and Ag+ were 0-17 μmol L-1 and 0-24 μmol L-1 with detection limits of 0.83 μmol L-1 and 1.20 μmol L-1, respectively, which allowed for the quantitative determination of Hg2+ and Ag+. The new probe, 3a, was successfully applied to the fluorescence imaging of Hg2+ and Ag+ in HepG2 cells, demonstrating its potential application in biological science. Moreover, 3a was used to measure Hg2+ and Ag+ in tap water, drinking water and ultrapure water samples. The recoveries of Hg2+ and Ag+ in water samples were 96-99% and 98-103%, respectively. Therefore, the proposed method showed promising perspectives for its application, aimed at detecting Hg2+ and Ag+ in fluorescence imaging and real water samples.
