Abstract
Synthetic methods that provide access to skeletally diverse heterocyclic motifs are poised to accelerate drug discovery and streamline the synthesis of advanced intermediates and materials. However, the development of such synthetic methods necessitates leveraging previously unexplored mechanistic pathways. We report herein an efficient blue light-emitting diode light-induced reaction of vinyldiazoacetates and quinones that produces spirocyclic dihydrofurans, featuring the synthetically challenging oxaspiro[4,5]decane core of numerous medicinal agents, agrochemicals, and natural products. In a departure from the well-established photochemical reactivity of diazo compounds, these reactions do not involve vinylcarbene intermediates formed by photolytic dinitrogen extrusion. Instead, they result from photoexcitation of the quinone to its triplet state with subsequent triplet energy transfer to the vinyldiazo ester. The subsequent addition of the vinylogous carbon of the triplet vinyldiazoacetate to the quinone oxygen affords the triplet diradical that collapses to the spirocyclic dihydrofuran upon the loss of dinitrogen. A strain release-driven and Bro̷nsted acid-catalyzed rearrangement of the spirocyclic products unravels the fused bicyclic ring system of equally synthetically and medicinally valuable chromenes, enabling facile skeletal diversification of the important heterocyclic motifs.

Abstract
In recent years, the application of fluorinated alcohols as solvents, cosolvents, or additives has become important in modern organic synthesis. However, their potential as efficient catalysts in organic synthesis has not been well-explored. In this article, we report on the development of a one-pot sequential cascade reaction of p-quinone methides with difluoroenoxysilanes using hexafluoroisopropanol as catalyst. This reaction allows for the preparation of fluorinated multisubstituted oxa-spiro[4,5]cyclohexadienones. By using 50 mol % 1,1,1,3,3,3-Hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP), the reaction proceeds smoothly to yield 1,6-conjugated products, which are then subjected to oxidative dearomatization/hemiacetalization using PhI(OAc)2. The overall process affords moderate to high yields and excellent diastereoselectivities.

Abstract
Selectfluor-promoted vicinal fluorohydroxylation and hydration reaction of para-quinone methides (p-QMs) were described, affording vicinal fluorohydrins and ketone/ether products in high yields. The hydration products were highly controlled by the electronic properties of substituents in the aromatic ring, and simultaneously, the amount of Selectfluor was completely different during the synthesis of ketone/ether products. This reaction also represents the first fluorohydroxylation of p-QMs, and the wide range of p-QMs makes the vicinal fluorohydroxylation of great significance.

Abstract
Dearomatization of indole is a useful strategy to access indolimines: a motif widely exists in biologically active molecules and natural products. Herein, an efficient method for the dearomatization of 2,3-disubstituted indoles to generate diverse indolimines with tetrasubstituted allenes is described. This work accomplishes dearomatization of 2,3-disubstituted indoles through 1,8-addition of (aza)-para-quinone methides, which are generated in situ from propargylic alcohols. A series of synthetically useful indolimines containing quaternary carbon centers and tetrasubstituted allenes can be accessed in good yields (up to 99%). Additionally, the separability of product isomers, diversified product transformations, and easy scale-up of the reaction demonstrate the potential application of this method.

Abstract
An efficient formal (3 + 1 + 1) carboannulation strategy of Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates with pyridinium ylides was developed for constructing diversely functionalized spiro-cyclopentadiene oxindoles. The reaction initiates with an SN2' olefination of MBH carbonates with pyridinium ylides. The in situ generated dienes then engage in a challenging (4 + 1) ylide carboannulation, which has been rarely reported before. The reaction features broad substrate scope as well as high chemo- and regioselectivity. (3 + 1 + 1) carboannulation products could be easily transformed into interesting spiro-cyclopenta[c]furan oxindoles.

Abstract
As a privileged structural motif, tetrahydroquinoline skeletons widely exist in biologically active natural products and pharmaceuticals. In this protocol, a highly diastereoselective [4 + 2] annulation of ortho-tosylaminophenyl-substituted p-QMs and cyanoalkenes to construct tetrahydroquinoline derivatives has been successfully achieved. This strategy proceeds efficiently under mild condition, offering straightforward route to a variety of 4-aryl-substituted tetrahydroquinolines with high yields, excellent diastereoselectivities, broad functional group tolerance as well as gram-scale capacity. Moreover, a one-pot reaction sequence utilizing in situ generated p-QMs under the similar condition to build tetrahydroquinoline framework is smoothly conducted with good reaction performance as well as step and atom economy.

Abstract
A new tandem annulation of p-quinone methides (p-QMs) with ynamides is described. This cascade reaction features a unique combination of (2 + 2) annulation, retro-4π electrocyclization, and imino-Nazarov cyclization, wherein vinyl p-quinone methides (p-VQMs) as one of the key intermediates have been identified chemically. Significantly, an unusual structural reconstruction of p-QMs involving the cleavage of the C5-C6 bond and the late-stage formation of the C4-C6 bond is involved, leading to a methodology development for the construction of functionalized aminoindenes.

Abstract
A novel Brønsted acid catalyzed 1,8-addition mediated (3 + 4)-annulation of in situ generated propargylic p-quinone methides with 2-indolylmethanols is described. This method provides a convenient and mild approach to structurally interesting and synthetically important polysubstituted indole-fused oxepines in high yields. Moreover, 2-indolylmethanols as four-atom synthons in the (3 + 4)-annulations under Brønsted acid conditions have been explored for the first time.

Abstract
Herein, we describe a highly effective 1,8-conjugate-addition-mediated formal (3+3)-annulation of (aza)-para-quinone methides in situ generated from propargylic alcohols with 4-hydroxycoumarins and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds under the catalysis of a Brønsted acid. This methodology affords efficient and practical access to synthetically important and highly functionalized pyranocoumarins and pyrans in excellent yields under mild conditions. Importantly, these products exhibit impressive inhibitory activity toward α-glucosidase.

Abstract
A facile one-pot synthesis has been developed through alkylation/acylation of ortho-tosylaminophenyl-substituted para-quinone methides followed by an intramolecular 1,6-conjugate addition and oxidation sequence. This cascade reaction occurs readily in good yield (up to 95%), providing a divergent synthetic approach to structurally diverse 2,3-disubstituted indoles and 3,4-diaryl-substituted quinolinones.

Abstract
A new family of CF3-containing para-quinone methides (CF3-QMs) was systematically investigated for its suitability in organic synthesis. Addition of different nucleophiles gives access to target molecules with a benzylic CF3-containing stereogenic center straightforwardly. The electrophilicity parameter E of the prototypical CF3-QM 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-(2,2,2-trifluoroethylidene)cyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-one was determined to be -11.68 according to the Mayr scale, making it one of the most reactive quinone methides known so far.

Abstract
![]()
The
electrophilic reactivity of a series of 8-arylated vinyl p-quinone methides (pVQMs) was determined by analyzing
the kinetics of their reactions with carbanions in DMSO at 20 °C
according to the linear free energy relationship log k = sN(N + E). The electrophilicity
parameters E for pVQMs were used
to successfully predict Michael-additions with structurally diverse
C-, N-, S-, and H-nucleophiles.

Abstract
The formal (4+1)-cyclization between in situ generated achiral carbonyl-stabilized ammonium ylides and vinylogous p-quinone methides can be carried out under operationally simple conditions, leading to two different double bond regioisomers depending on the used conditions. Besides these racemic approaches, also a first proof-of-concept for enantioselective versions of these reactions has been obtained.

Abstract
A formal [4+1]-annulation strategy between sulfur ylides and 1,3-dienes was developed to afford functionalized cyclopentanoids. The process consists of a stereoselective cyclopropanation reaction followed, in situ, by a stereospecific MgI2 -catalyzed vinylcyclopropane-cyclopentene rearrangement. The use of chiral sulfur ylides provided cyclopentanoids with excellent enantiocontrol. A combined experimental and computational mechanistic study showed that the stereospecificity of the rearrangement could be accounted for by a double SN 2 reaction mechanism involving iodide.
