Abstract
Transition metal sulfides with the high theoretical capacity and low cost have been considered as advanced anode candidate for alkali metal ion batteries, but suffered from unsatisfactory electrical conductivity and huge volume expansion. Herein, a multidimensional structure Cu-doped Co1-xS2@MoS2 in-situ-grown on N-doped carbon nanofibers (denoted as Cu-Co1-xS2@MoS2 NCNFs) have been elaborately constructed for the first time. The bimetallic zeolitic imidazolate framework CuCo-ZIFs were encapsulated in the one-dimensional (1D) NCNFs through an electrospinning route and then on which the two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 nanosheets were in-situ grown via a hydrothermal process. The architecture of 1D NCNFs can effectively shorten ion diffusion path and enhance electrical conductivity. Besides, the formed heterointerface between MOF-derived binary metal sulfides and MoS2 can provide extra active centers and accelerate reaction kinetics, which guarantee a superior reversibility. As expected, the resulting Cu-Co1-xS2@MoS2 NCNFs electrode delivers excellent specific capacity of Na-ion batteries (845.6 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g), Li-ion batteries (1145.7 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g), and K-ion batteries (474.3 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g). Therefore, this innovative design strategy will bring a meaningful prospect for developing high-performance multi-component metal sulfides electrode for alkali metal ion batteries.

Abstract
Exploiting dual-functional photoelectrodes to harvest and store solar energy is a challenging but efficient way for achieving renewable energy utilization. Herein, multi-heterostructures consisting of N-doped carbon coated MoS2 nanosheets supported by tubular TiO2 with photoelectric conversion and electronic transfer interfaces are designed. When a photo sodium ion battery (photo-SIB) is assembled based on the heterostructures, its capacity increases to 399.3 mAh g-1 with a high photo-conversion efficiency of 0.71 % switching from dark to visible light at 2.0 A g-1 . Remarkably, the photo-SIB can be recharged by light only, with a striking capacity of 231.4 mAh g-1 . Experimental and theoretical results suggest that the proposed multi-heterostructures can enhance charge transfer kinetics, maintain structural stability, and facilitate the separation of photo-excited carriers. This work presents a new strategy to design dual-functional photoelectrodes for efficient use of solar energy.

Abstract
Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) is the second two-dimensional material after graphene that received a lot of attention from the research community. Strong S-Mo-S bonds make the sandwich-like layer mechanically and chemically stable, while the abundance of precursors and several developed synthesis methods allow obtaining various MoS2 architectures, including those in combinations with a carbon component. Doping of MoS2 with heteroatom substituents can occur by replacing Mo and S with other cations and anions. This creates active sites on the basal plane, which is important for the adsorption of reactive species. Adsorption is a key step in the gas detection and electrochemical energy storage processes discussed in this review. The literature data were analyzed in the light of the influence of a substitutional heteroatom on the interaction of MoS2 with gas molecules and electrolyte ions. Theory predicts that the binding energy of molecules to a MoS2 surface increases in the presence of heteroatoms, and experiments showed that such surfaces are more sensitive to certain gases. The best electrochemical performance of MoS2-based nanomaterials is usually achieved by including foreign metals. Heteroatoms improve the electrical conductivity of MoS2, which is a semiconductor in a thermodynamically stable hexagonal form, increase the distance between layers, and cause lattice deformation and electronic density redistribution. An analysis of literature data showed that co-doping with various elements is most attractive for improving the performance of MoS2 in sensor and electrochemical applications. This is the first comprehensive review on the influence of foreign elements inserted into MoS2 lattice on the performance of a nanomaterial in chemiresistive gas sensors, lithium-, sodium-, and potassium-ion batteries, and supercapacitors. The collected data can serve as a guide to determine which elements and combinations of elements can be used to obtain a MoS2-based nanomaterial with the properties required for a particular application.

Abstract
Low intrinsic conductivity and structural instability of MoS2 as an anode of sodium-ion batteries limit the liberation of its theoretical capacity. Herein, density functional theory simulations for the first time optimize MoS2 interlayer distance between 0.80 and 1.01 nm for sodium storage. 1-Butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium acetate ([BMIm]Ac) induces cellulose oligomers to intercalate MoS2 interlayers for achieving controllable distance by changing the mass ratio of cellulose to [BMIm]Ac. Based on these findings, porous carbon loading the interlayer-expanded MoS2 allowing Na+ to insert with fast kinetics is synthesized. A carbon layer derived from [BMIm]Ac and cellulose coating the composite prevents the MoS2 from contacting electrolytes, leading to less sulfur loss for a more reversible specific capacity. Meanwhile, MoS2 and carbon have a strong interfacial connection through MoN binding, contributing to enhanced structural stability. As expected, while cycling 250 times at 0.1 A g-1 , the MoS2 -porous carbon composite displays an optimal reversible capacity at 517.79 mAh g-1 as a sodium-ion batteries anode. The cyclic test of 1.0 A g-1 also shows considerable stability (310.74 mAh g-1 after 1000 cycles with 86.26% retentive capacity). This study will open up new possibilities of modifying MoS2 that serves as an applicable material as sodium-ion battery anode.

Abstract
The shortage of freshwater supplies has restricted societal development. Capacitive deionization (CDI) is an emerging technology for desalination of seawater or brackish water, the performance of which is highly dependent on electrode materials. In this work, a molybdenum disulfide/carbon nanotube composite (CNTs-b-MoS2) with high capacitance was successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The composite exhibited a specific capacitance of 112.79 F g-1. To reduce costs and determine the practicality of using CNTs-b-MoS2 for CDI, we combined activated carbon (AC) with CNTs-b-MoS2 as a CDI electrode. The research demonstrated that after doping with 5% (mass ratio) CNTs-b-MoS2, the specific capacitance and electrosorption capacity of AC were significantly improved and the maximum desalination capacity of CNTs-b-MoS2/AC reached 8.19 mg g-1. The low dosage of CNTs-b-MoS2 combined with the high specific surface area of AC avoided the shortcomings of CNTs-b-MoS2, namely low specific surface area and high cost. Moreover, the outstanding conductivity of CNTs-b-MoS2 improved the conductivity and enhanced the adsorption capacity of AC, giving CNTs-b-MoS2/AC potential as an advanced, low-cost CDI electrode material.

Abstract
Two-dimensional MoS2 with a controllable morphology was prepared via a simple one-step hydrothermal method. Citric acid was used as a complexing agent and self-assembly inducer. The morphology of MoS2 changed from clusters to nanosheets, and, eventually, to stacked nanorods. A formation mechanism is proposed for the observed evolution of the morphology. The nanosheet structure presents a relatively large specific surface area, more exposed active sites and greater 1T phase content compared to the other morphologies. The electrochemical performance tests show that the MoS2 nanosheets exhibit excellent electrochemical behavior. Their specific capacitance is 320.5 F g-1, and their capacitance retention is up to 95% after 5000 cycles at 5 mA cm-2. This work provides a feasible approach for changing the morphology of MoS2 for high efficiency electrode materials for supercapacitors.

Abstract
As a typical two-dimensional layered metal sulfide, MoS2 has a high theoretical capacity and large layer spacing, which is beneficial for ion transport. Herein, a facile polymerization method is employed to synthesize polypyrrole (PPy) nanotubes, followed by a hydrothermal method to obtain flower-rod-shaped MoS2/PPy (FR-MoS2/PPy) composites. The FR-MoS2/PPy achieves outstanding electrochemical performance as a sodium-ion battery anode. After 60 cycles under 100 mA g−1, the FR-MoS2/PPy can maintain a capacity of 431.9 mAh g−1. As for rate performance, when the current densities range from 0.1 to 2 A g−1, the capacities only reduce from 489.7 to 363.2 mAh g−1. The excellent performance comes from a high specific surface area provided by the unique structure and the synergistic effect between the components. Additionally, the introduction of conductive PPy improves the conductivity of the material and the internal hollow structure relieves the volume expansion. In addition, kinetic calculations show that the composite material has a high sodium-ion transmission rate, and the external pseudocapacitance behavior can also significantly improve its electrochemical performance. This method provides a new idea for the development of advanced high-capacity anode materials for sodium-ion batteries.

Abstract
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have aroused great attention because of the low cost and environmental benignity of sodium resources. However, practical applications of SIBs are plagued by the sluggish kinetics of sodium ions with large size in the host structure, which results in poor rate performance and rapid capacity decline. Herein, a self-templated approach was developed to synthesize MoS2 /Cu2 Se nanosheets with improved interfacial electron- and ion-transfer kinetics. The MoS2 /Cu2 Se nanosheets provided superior sodium storage performance, delivering 139 mAh g-1 at a high current density of 100 A g-1 and 222 mAh g-1 after 14000 cycles (at 20 A g-1 ). The outstanding electrochemical performance was attributed to the synergetic engineering of interface and structure, which could enhance the electrochemical kinetics and gave excellent mechanical properties to deal with the volume expansion phenomenon. Combined with a high-voltage cathode, the full battery demonstrated a high energy density of 152 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 420 W kg-1 , which opens a new avenue for the development of high-performance SIBs.
