Abstract
The volume collapse and slow kinetics reaction of anode materials are two key issues for sodium ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, an "embryo" strategy is proposed for synthesis of nanorod-embedded MoO2/MoS2/C network nanoarchitecture as anode for SIBs with high-rate performance. Interestingly, L-cysteine which plays triple roles including sulfur source, reductant, and carbon source can be utilized to produce the sulfur vacancy-enriched heterostructure. Specifically, L-cysteine can combine with metastable monoclinic MoO3 nanorods at room temperature to encapsulate the "nutrient" of MoOx analogues (MoO2.5(OH)0.5 and MoO3·0.5H2O) and hydrogen-deficient L-cysteine in the "embryo" precursor affording for subsequent in situ multistep heating treatment. The resultant MoO2/MoS2/C presents a high-rate capability of 875 and 420 mAh g-1 at 0.5 and 10 A g-1, respectively, which are much better than the MoS2-based anode materials reported by far. Finite element simulation and analysis results verify that the volume expansion can be reduced to 42.8% from 88.8% when building nanorod-embedded porous network structure. Theoretical calculations reveal that the sulfur vacancies and heterointerface engineering can promote the adsorption and migration of Na+ leading to highly enhanced thermodynamic and kinetic reaction. The work provides an efficient approach to develop advanced electrode materials for energy storage.

Abstract
Designing innovative anode materials that exhibit excellent ion diffusion kinetics, enhanced structural stability, and superior electrical conductivity is imperative for advancing the rapid charge-discharge performance and widespread application of sodium-ion batteries. Hollow-structured materials have received significant attention in electrode design due to their rapid ion diffusion kinetics. Building upon this, we present a high-performance, free-standing MoO2@hollow carbon nanofiber (MoO2@HCNF) electrode, fabricated through facile coaxial electrospinning and subsequent heat treatment. In comparison to MoO2@carbon nanofibers (MoO2@CNFs), the MoO2@HCNF electrode demonstrates superior rate capability, attributed to its larger specific surface area, its higher pseudocapacitance contribution, and the enhanced diffusion kinetics of sodium ions. The discharge capacities of the MoO2@HCNF (MoO2@CNF) electrode at current densities of 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 5.0 A g-1 are 195.55 (155.49), 180.98 (135.20), 163.81 (109.71), 144.05 (90.46), 121.16 (71.21) and 88.90 (44.68) mAh g-1, respectively. Additionally, the diffusion coefficients of sodium ions in the MoO2@HCNFs are 8.74 × 10-12 to 1.37 × 10-12 cm2 s-1, which surpass those of the MoO2@CNFs (6.49 × 10-12 to 9.30 × 10-13 cm2 s-1) during the discharging process. In addition, these prepared electrode materials exhibit outstanding flexibility, which is crucial to the power storage industry and smart wearable devices.

Abstract
Despite being one of the most promising materials in anode materials, molybdenum sulfide (MoS2 ) encounters certain obstacles, such as inadequate cycle stability, low conductivity, and unsatisfactory charge-discharge (CD) rate performance. In this study, a novel approach is employed to address the drawbacks of MoS2 . Carbon polymer dots (CPDs) are incorporated to prepare three-dimensional (3D) nanoflower-like spheres of MoS2 @CPDs through the self-assembly of MoS2 2D nanosheets, followed by annealing at 700 °C. The CPDs play a main role in the creation of the nanoflower-like spheres and also mitigate the MoS2 nanosheet limitations. The nanoflower-like spheres minimize volume changes during cycling and improve the rate performance, leading to exceptional rate performance and cycling stability in both Lithium-ion and Sodium-ion batteries (LIBs and SIBs). The optimized MoS2 @CPDs-2 electrode achieves a superb capacity of 583.4 mA h g-1 at high current density (5 A g-1 ) after 1000 cycles in LIBs, and the capacity remaining of 302.8 mA h g-1 after 500 cycles at 5 A g-1 in SIBs. Additionally, the full cell of LIBs/SIBs exhibits high capacity and good cycling stability, demonstrating its potential for practical application in fast-charging and high-energy storage.

Abstract
A universal anode material of 1D core-shell MoO2@MoS2/nitrogen-doped carbon (MoO2@MoS2/NC) nanorods has been elaborately synthesized via a facile fabrication route for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs), in which MoO2 core not only acts as a conductive backbone for efficient electron transport, but creates structural disorders in MoS2 nanosheets to prevent aggregation and expose more active sites for alkali-ions. Meanwhile, the MoO2 core is tightly encapsulated by the parallelly aligned MoS2 nanosheets to constrain the size of crystals, which greatly shortens the ionic diffusion path and accelerates diffusion rate, thus ensuring fast reaction kinetics. Additionally, the resilient and conductive N-doped carbon matrix in the hybrid could maintain the structural integrity and enhance the electrical conductivity of the electrodes, improving the rate capability and life span. The flexible 1D nanorods could contract freely during the charge/discharge process, further assuring the structural stability of the electrodes. Benefiting from the above-mentioned advantages, the MoO2@MoS2/NC electrodes still remains a specific capacity of 583.5 mA h g-1 after 1500 cycles at a high current density up to 10 A g-1 in LIBs, and a capacity of 419.8 mA h g-1 is steadily kept over 800 cycles at 2 A g-1 in SIBs.

Abstract
Transition metal chalcogenides with high theoretical capacity are promising conversion-type anode materials for sodium ion batteries (SIBs), but often suffer from unsatisfied cycling stability (hundreds of cycles) caused by structural collapse and agglomerate. Herein, a rational strategy of tunable surface selenization on highly crystalline MoO2 -based carbon substrate is designed, where the sheet-like MoSe2 can be coated on the surface of bundle-like N-doped carbon/granular MoO2 substrate, realizing partial transformation from MoO2 to MoSe2 , and creating b-NC/g-MoO2 @s-MoSe2 -10 with robust hierarchical MoO2 @MoSe2 heterostructures and strong chemical couplings (MoC and MoN). Such well-designed architecture can provide signally improved reaction kinetics and reinforced structural integrity for fast and stable sodium-ion storage, as confirmed by the ex situ results and kinetic analyses as well as the density functional theory calculations. As expected, the b-NC/g-MoO2 @s-MoSe2 -10 delivers splendid rate capability and ultralong cycling stability (254.2 mAh g-1 reversible capacity at 5.0 A g-1 after 6000 cycles with ≈89.0% capacity retention). Therefore, the tunable surface strategy can provide new insights for designing and constructing heterostructures of transition metal chalcogenides toward high-performance SIBs.
