Abstract
A cobalt catalyst supported on an iron oxide core, denoted as γ-Fe2O3@PEG@THMAM-Co, has been prepared and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray mapping, thermogravimetry differential thermogravimetry, vibrating sample magnetometry, and inductively coupled plasma. Polyhydroxy end groups in the shell make the catalyst particles dispersible in water, allowing Hiyama, Suzuki, and C-N cross-coupling reactions of aryl iodides and bromides. The catalyst could be recovered by magnetic decantation and reused for at least five successive runs with a negligent decrease in its activity or changes in its morphology. Water as a solvent without requiring additives, surfactants, or organic co-solvents, as well as an abundant and low-cost cobalt catalyst combined with facile recovery, low leaching, and scalability, provides an environmentally and economically attractive alternative to established palladium-catalyzed C-C and C-N coupling reactions.

Abstract
As haloanilines (HANs) are important organic intermediates and fine chemicals, their preparation over non-noble-metal-based catalysts by catalytic hydrogenation has attracted wide attention. However, the reaction suffers from relatively harsh conditions. Herein, we found that a 3.5%Ni/P25 catalyst exhibited superior photo-thermal catalytic activity with a TOFs of 5207 h-1 for hydrogenation of p-chloronitrobenzene (p-CNB) to p-chloroaniline under a 300 W full spectrum, which was much higher than that of photo- and thermal catalysis alone. Moreover, the 3.5%Ni/P25 catalyst could be recycled 4 times and was effective for the hydrogenation of various halonitrobenzenes (HNBs) with superior selectivity. Furthermore, the kinetic research showed that the excellent catalytic performance could be attributed to the better activation and dissociation of H2 by photo-thermal catalysis and the hydrogenation of p-CNB obeyed the condensation routine by ionic hydrogenation over 3.5%Ni/P25.

Abstract
Immobilized Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling under continuous-flow conditions using a packed-bed reactor, representing an efficient, automated, practical, and safe technology compared to conventional batch-type reactions. The core objective of this study is the development of an active and durable catalyst. In contrast to supported Pd nanoparticles, the attachment of Pd complexes onto solid supports through well-defined coordination sites is considered a favorable approach for preparing highly dispersed and stabilized Pd species. These species can be directly employed in various flow reactions without the need for pre-treatment. This concept paper explores recent achievements involving the application of immobilized Pd complexes as precatalysts for continuous-flow Suzuki-Miyaura coupling. Our focus is to elucidate the significance of the designed catalyst structures in relation to their catalytic performance under flow conditions. Additionally, we highlight various reaction systems and catalyst packing methods, emphasizing their crucial roles in establishing a practical synthesis process.

Abstract
A convoluted poly(4-vinylpyridine) cobalt(II) (P4VP-CoCl2) system was developed as a stable and reusable heterogeneous catalyst. The local structure near the Co atom was determined on the basis of experimental data and theoretical calculations. This immobilized cobalt catalyst showed high selectivity and catalytic activity in the [2 + 2 + 2] cyclotrimerization of terminal aryl alkynes. With 0.033 mol % P4VP-CoCl2, the regioselective formation of 1,3,5-triarylbenzene was realized without 1,2,4-triarylbenzene formation. Further, a multigram-scale (11 g) reaction proceeded efficiently. In addition, the polymer-supported catalyst was successfully recovered and used three times. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis of the recovered catalyst suggested that cobalt was in the +2 oxidation state. The 1,3,5-triarylbenzene derivatives were applied to the synthesis of a molecular beam electron resist and a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon.

Abstract
The Pd catalyst for Suzuki–Miyaura or the other C–C coupling reactions is one of the central tools in organic synthesis related to medicine, agricultural chemicals and advanced materials. However, recycling palladium is a bottleneck for developing the extreme potential of Pd in chemistry. Herein, we established a new heterogeneous Pd catalytic system in which the catalyst is a nanopetal-gathered flower-like microsphere self-assembled from PdCl2 and alkyl-linked bis-theophyllines. The microflowers catalyzed quantitatively the reaction of aryl bromides and phenylboronic acid in aqueous media at room temperature. It was found that the reaction proceeds better in an air atmosphere than in nitrogen gas even though the Pd(ii) species employed was lowered to 0.001 mol% in the substance. Very interestingly, the microflowers could be recycled 20 times without deactivation in the C–C coupling reaction between bromobenzene and phenylboronic acid in the presence of sodium chloride. We found that the sodium chloride added played an important role in maintaining the morphology of microflowers and preventing the formation of metallic Pd particles. Bis-theophylline-palladium complex exhibit high catalytic activity in the C–C coupling reaction with excellent recyclability in the presence of NaCl.![]()

Abstract
Cu(I) catalysts were studied for the synthesis of a propargylamine via A3-coupling of aldehyde, amine, and alkyne, under solvent-free and low loading conditions, using batch microwave or flow thermal heating. We explored ultra-low loading conditions with Cu(I) salts as fast and active catalysts featuring turnover frequencies (TOFs) above 105 h−1. Well-defined octahedral and cubic Cu2O microcrystals were also successfully applied and compared with this reaction. Both types of microcrystals exhibited excellent catalytic activities within minutes, via in situ generation of low dose of Cu(I) ions within the reaction medium, to achieve TON beyond 2000 and recycling up to 10 times in a flow reactor. The study of the catalytic system demonstrated that the activity was surface-structure dependent and allowed for the design of low Cu contamination A3-coupling systems, affording a product at the decigram scale, with Cu contamination below FDA recommendations for drug synthesis, without the need for a purification procedure.

Abstract
An efficient method for the synthesis of 5-vinyl-2-isoxazolines by Pd-catalyzed intramolecular O-allylation of ketoximes has been developed. The reaction involves Pd(0)-catalyzed π-allyl formation via leaving group ionization or Pd(II)-catalyzed allylic C-H activation followed by intramolecular nucleophilic oxime oxygen attack. This methodology has been elaborated to various value-added products by epoxidation, Wacker oxidation, cross-metathesis, hydroboration-oxidation, dihydroxylation, and catalytic hydrogenation.

Abstract
A few kinds of thermoresponsive diblock copolymers have been synthesized and utilized for palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions in water. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAm) and poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) (PDEAAm) are employed for thermoresponsive segments and poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSSNa) and poly(sodium 2-acrylamido-methylpropanesulfonate) (PAMPSNa) are employed for hydrophilic segments. Palladium-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck reactions are performed in water and the efficiency of the extraction process is studied. More efficient extraction was observed for the PDEAAm copolymers when compared with the PNIPAAm copolymers and conventional surfactants. In the study of the Sonogashira coupling reactions in water, aggregative precipitation of the products was observed. Washing the precipitate with water gave the product with satisfactory purity with a good yield.

Abstract
Owing to the redox activity of the poly(ferrocenylsilane)-based polymer, several noble metal nanoparticles can be successfully prepared. As reported herein, the in situ preparation of Pd nanoparticles was performed using a redox-active platform of poly(ferrocenylmethylethylthiocarboxylpropylsilane) (PFC) micelles. PFC/Pd nanocomposites (NCs) with Pd nanoparticles uniformly dispersed at the surface of PFC nanospheres were obtained. The morphology of PFC/Pd NCs was further confirmed via high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Taking advantage of Pd nanoparticles, the PFC/Pd NCs showed significant catalytic activity during the reduction process of 4-nitrophenol by sodium borohydride. Although PFC micelles themselves showed no catalytic activity, they promoted the catalytic behavior of Pd nanoparticles obviously by anchoring the Pd nanoparticles at their surface to avoid the aggregation and leaching of Pd nanoparticles. In all, PFC/Pd NCs exhibited great potential as a composite nanocatalyst. Moreover, the PFC micelle was found to be a desired platform for nanocatalysts.

Abstract
Highly selective catalytic hydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes is a highly important reaction owing to its industrial and commercial application. Specifically, semihydrogenation of terminal alkynes has been more challenging than internal alkenes even using Lindlar catalysts. Also, the high reduction degree state metal-supported catalysts like Pd0/C, Pt0/C, and Ru0/C have been well-known to be used widely in hydrogenation due to their super activity. However, charcoal can absorb a large amount of water; Pd/C with 50% water is convenient on a large-scale synthesis. Charcoal generally bears oxygen groups on its surface, which are responsible for low selectivity and undesired products. Even typically, only 10-60% of the Pd metal atoms are exposed, they still suffer from poor stability in acids owing to leaching. Herein, we intend to design active and stable metal catalysts with features as the following to avoid leaching: having strong interaction with the support and coordinatively unsaturated metal sites or low valence state metals physically isolated from the acid environment. Herein, a highly efficient semihydrogenation of terminal alkynes to produce alkenes has been realized using a heterogeneous Pd(II)/POP-GIEC catalyst, imine-linked, crystalline, and porous organic polymer supporter modified by coordination of Pd(OAc)2 to its walls under mild conditions. Surprisingly, for the first time, modified POP-supported low reduction degree PdII catalysts were synthesized efficiently, and they were successfully used in semihydrogenation of terminal alkynes. The substrate scope was studied and included both unfunctionalized as well as functionalized substituents on the para, ortho, and meta position of aromatic alkynes. The substrate having a substituent with the functionality of fluoro protected at the meta position was semihydrogenated with a high alkyne conversion of 100% and olefin selectivity (up to 99%).

Abstract
In recent years, palladium-catalyzed allylation has become the focus of much research. However, conventional homogeneous Pd catalysts face problems regarding their recovery, reuse, and cost, especially with respect to green chemistry principles. Herein, we present an overview of the development of catalytic allylation with various heterogeneous Pd catalysts, because they can be easily and conveniently recovered and reused. We also emphasize the use of different solid supports such as polymers, silica, and other hybrid supports to inspire future research in this promising field. Moreover, the unique effects of support surfaces for enhancing catalysis by immobilized heterogeneous Pd species are introduced.

Abstract
Palladium catalyzed cross-coupling reactions represent a significant advancement in contemporary organic synthesis as these reactions are of strategic importance in the area of pharmaceutical drug discovery and development. Supported palladium-based catalysts are highly sought-after in carbon-carbon bond forming catalytic processes to ensure catalyst recovery and reuse while preventing product contamination. This paper reports the development of heterogeneous Pd-based bimetallic catalysts supported on fumed silica that have high activity and selectivity matching those of homogeneous catalysts, eliminating the catalyst's leaching and sintering and allowing efficient recycling of the catalysts. Palladium and base metal (Cu, Ni or Co) contents of less than 1.0 wt% loading are deposited on a mesoporous fumed silica support (surface area SABET = 350 m2 g-1) using strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) yielding homogeneously alloyed nanoparticles with an average size of 1.3 nm. All bimetallic catalysts were found to be highly active toward Suzuki cross-coupling (SCC) reactions with superior activity and stability for the CuPd/SiO2 catalyst. A low CuPd/SiO2 loading (Pd: 0.3 mol%) completes the conversion of bromobenzene and phenylboronic acid to biphenyl in 30 minutes under ambient conditions in water/ethanol solvent. In contrast, monometallic Pd/SiO2 (Pd: 0.3 mol%) completes the same reaction in three hours under the same conditions. The combination of Pd with the base metals helps in retaining the Pd0 status by charge donation from the base metals to Pd, thus lowering the activation energy of the aryl halide oxidative addition step. Along with its exceptional activity, CuPd/SiO2 exhibits excellent recycling performance with a turnover frequency (TOF) of 280 000 h-1 under microwave reaction conditions at 60 °C. Our study demonstrates that SEA is an excellent synthetic strategy for depositing ultra-small Pd-based bimetallic nanoparticles on porous silica for SCC. This avenue not only provides highly active and sintering-resistant catalysts but also significantly lowers Pd contents in the catalysts without compromising catalytic activity, making the catalysts very practical for large-scale applications.

Abstract
Heterogeneous catalysis of alkenes to alkanes is of great importance in chemical industry, but more efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalysts are still demanded. Here, we report a metallically gradated composite of a silicon nanowire array and palladium nanoparticles which are reused for the hydrogenation of an alkene. The catalyst promotes the hydrogenation of stilbene with atmospheric hydrogen (0.1 MPa) to give diphenylethane quantitatively. The recovered catalyst can be reused, and mediates the reaction without loss of yield more than one hundred times, whereas the stability of Pd/C degrades rapidly over 10 cycles of reuse. The catalyst allows the hydrogenation of a variety of alkenes, including tetra-substituted olefins. Structural investigation reveals that palladium nanoparticles are metallically gradated onto the silicon nanowire array under mild conditions by agglomeration of palladium silicide, as confirmed by XAFS and XPS together with argon-ion sputtering. This means of metal agglomeration immobilization may be applicable to the preparation of a variety of metal nanoparticle catalysts.

Abstract
A polymeric monophosphine ligand WePhos has been synthesized and complexed with palladium(ii) acetate [Pd(OAc)2] to generate a thermoresponsive pre-catalyst that can shuttle between water and organic phases, with the change being regulated by temperature. The structure of the polymeric ligand was confirmed with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry and size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) analysis, as well as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements. This polymeric metal complex enables highly efficient Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings and tandem reactions using 50 to 500 ppm palladium, and this can facilitate reactions that are tolerant to a broad spectrum of (hetero)aryl substrates and functional groups, as demonstrated with 73 examples with up to 99% isolated yields. Notably, 97% Pd remained in the aqueous phase after 10 runs of catalyst recycling experiments, as determined via inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) measurements, indicating highly efficient catalyst transfer. Furthermore, a continuous catalyst recycling approach has been successfully developed based on flow chemistry in combination with the catalyst shuttling behavior, allowing Suzuki-Miyaura couplings to be conducted at gram-scales with as little as 10 ppm Pd loading. Given the significance of transition-metal catalyzed cross-coupling and increasing interest in sustainable chemistry, this work is an important step towards the development of a responsive catalyst, in addition to having high activity, by tuning the structures of the ligands using polymer science.

Abstract
The catalytic cycle of allylic arylation in water catalyzed by linear polystyrene-stabilized Pd or PdO nanoparticles (PS-PdNPs or PS-PdONPs) was investigated. Stoichiometric stepwise reactions indicated that the reaction did not proceed stepwise on the surface of the catalyst. In the case of the reaction with PS-PdNPs, the leached Pd species is the catalytically active species and the reaction takes place through a similar reaction pathway accepted in the case of a complex catalyst. In contrast, allylic arylation using PS-PdONPs as a catalyst occurs via a Pd(II) catalytic cycle.

Development of Titanium Dioxide-Supported Pd Catalysts for Ligand-Free Suzuki–Miyaura Coupling of Aryl Chlorides. Catalysts 2019. Abstract
The catalyst activities of various heterogeneous palladium catalysts supported by anatase-, rutile- and brookite-type titanium oxide for ligand-free Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl chlorides were evaluated. Palladium acetate [Pd(OAc)2], supported on anatase-type titanium oxide (TiO2) via acetonitrile solution impregnation process without reduction [Pd/TiO2 (anatase-type)], demonstrated the highest catalyst activity in comparison to those of other titanium oxide (rutile- or brookite-type) supported Pd(OAc)2 without reduction and reduced Pd/TiO2 (anatase-type) [Pd(red)/TiO2 (anatase-type)]. Various aryl chloride and bromide derivatives were smoothly coupled with arylboronic acids including heteroarylboronic acids in the presence of 5–10 mol% Pd/TiO2 (anatase-type) without the addition of any ligands. Although the fresh Pd/TiO2 (anatase-type) catalyst was surprisingly comprised of ca. 1:2 mixture of palladium(II) and palladium(0) species according to X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), in spite of no reduction process, significant further increment of palladium(0) species was observed during the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction, and Pd/TiO2 (anatase-type) was converted into a catalyst, which contained palladium(0) species as the main component [ca. 1:5 mixture of palladium(II) and palladium(0) species]. Therefore, the reduction via the electron donation process to the palladium(II) species may have occurred during the reaction on anatase-type titanium oxide.

Abstract
Self‐assembled functional supramolecular metallopolymers have demonstrated application potential in cancer therapy. Herein, a copper polypyridyl complex was found able to self‐assemble into a supramolecular metallopolymer driven by the intermolecular interactions, which could enhance the uptake in cancer cells through endocytosis, and thus effectively inhibiting tumor growth in vivo without damaging to the major organs. This study provides a facile way to achieve enhanced anticancer efficacy by using self‐assembled metallopolymers.

Abstract
Since the development of metallopolymers, there has been tremendous interest in the applications of this type of materials. The interest in these materials stems from their potential use in industry as catalysts, biomedical agents in healthcare, energy storage and production as well as climate change mitigation. The past two decades have clearly shown exponential growth in the development of many new classes of metallopolymers that address these issues. Today, metallopolymers are considered to be at the forefront for discovering new and sustainable heterogeneous catalysts, therapeutics for drug-resistant diseases, energy storage and photovoltaics, molecular barometers and thermometers, as well as carbon dioxide sequesters. The focus of this review is to highlight the advances in design of metallopolymers with specific sustainable applications.

Abstract
A critical review of conclusions about the putative heterogeneous mechanism in the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling by supported Pd solids is reported. In the first section, the turnover frequencies (TOF) of 20 well-established homogeneous catalysts are shown to be in the range 200 to 1,000,000,000 h − 1 . The evidences used to prove a heterogeneous mechanism are discussed and another interpretation is proposed, hypothesizing that only the leached species are responsible for the catalytic reaction, even at ppb levels. Considering more than 40 published catalytic systems for which liquid phase Pd content have been reported, activities have been computed based on leached Pd concentrations and are shown to be in the range TOF 150 to 70,000,000 h − 1 . Such values are compatible with those found for the well-established homogeneous catalysts which questions the validity of the conclusions raised by many papers about the heterogeneous (solid) nature of Suzuki-Miyaura catalysis. Last, a tentative methodology is proposed which involves the rational use of well-known tests (hot-filtration test, mercury test…) to help to discriminate between homogeneous and heterogeneous mechanisms.
