Abstract
Background and Objectives: Various adiposity indicators have been used to predict metabolic syndrome (MetS). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the predictive ability of known adiposity indicators, such as abdominal girth, girth/height and fat percentage, as well as less commonly used indicators, such as the conicity index (CI), body roundness index (BRI), visceral adiposity index (VAI) and body shape index (ABSI), to predict MetS. Materials and Methods: A total of 261 participants, including family members and graduates of a flagship school in the city of Trujillo, Peru, participated. Metabolic syndrome was assessed according to the harmonised ATP III criteria. ROC curves were analysed for each of the adiposity indicators using SPSS 26.0 statistical software. Results: The prevalence of MetS was found to be 43.4%, with a higher proportion in men (25.8%). The area under the curve (AUC) for the prediction of MetS exceeded a value of 0.8 for VAI, abdominal circumference, circumference/height and relative fat mass in both men and women, with VAI showing the highest values of 0.858 and 0.875 in women and men, with cut-off points for MetS of 2.57 and 1.73, respectively. Conclusions: VAI can be used in the diagnosis of metabolic syndrome during lipid profile and anthropometric assessment.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION It is unclear whether changing trajectories of renal function will increase the risk prediction information of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to evaluate the trajectory patterns of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the association between eGFR trajectories and CVD risk. METHODS A total of 4742 participants were included in the cohort from the 51st Regiment of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The study endpoint was the occurrence of CVD events. eGFR trajectories were identified using a linear mixed-effects model in four distinct patterns. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards models analysed the correlations between eGFR trajectories and CVD. RESULTS During a median follow-up period of 5.7 years, a total of 559 (11.8%) CVD, 404 (8.5%) myocardial infarction (MI), 244 (5.2%) ischemic stroke (IS), and 62 (1.3%) heart failure (HF) incidents occurred. After multivariable adjustment, gradual decline trajectory increased the risk of CVD (HR 1.42, 95% CI 1.16-1.74), MI (HR 1.41, 95% CI 1.11-1.79), and IS (HR 1.41, 95% CI 1.04-1.92); gradual increase trajectory reduced the risk of CVD (HR 0.40, 95% CI 0.25-0.64) and MI (HR 0.49, 95% CI 0.29-0.81). Consistent results were obtained in sensitivity and subgroup analyses. CONCLUSIONS Decline and increase of renal function were related to the risk of CVD, MI, and IS in the rural areas of Xinjiang. Monitoring eGFR changing trajectory is of great significance in improving the risk of CVD.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a growing global public health concern that is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular events, even in athletes. The lipid accumulation product (LAP) index and cardiometabolic index (CMI) have been shown to be efficient markers of MS in the general population; its applicability in athletes has not been discussed yet. We aimed to assess the role of LAP and CMI in predicting MS in athletes. METHODS We retrospectively enrolled 793 Olympic athletes practicing different sporting disciplines (power, skill, endurance, and mixed), classified arbitrarily into no risk (NR), low risk (LR), high risk (HR), or MS if they had 0, 1, 2, or 3 criteria for MS, respectively. Evaluations included a calculation of the LAP index, CMI, anthropometric measurements, and clinical and laboratorial variables. RESULTS Among our population, only 0.8% reached the criteria for MS, 9.1% were at HR for MS, 37.8% were defined as LR, and 52.3% had NR. Significant differences in anthropometric parameters and the principal components of MS criteria (blood pressure, lipidic profile, glycemia) were reported predominantly in HR athletes and those with MS (p < 0.0001). LAP and CMI presented linearly increasing values from individuals with NR to those with MS (p < 0.0001). In addition, HR and MS athletes were classified as "likely MS" (9.8%) and LR and NR athletes as "unlikely MS" (90.2%). After adjusting for potential confounders, LAP ≥ 34.66 and CMI ≥ 0.776 emerged as independent predictors for MS in the overall cohort (Hazar Ratio (HR) 7.22 [3.75-13.89], p < 0.0001, and HR 5.37 [2.96-9.73], p < 0.0001, respectively). The ROC curve revealed that these cut-offs in the general population predict MS with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.80 and 0.79, respectively, for LAP and CMI. However, gender-related cut-offs seem to be more precise in predicting MS (LAP ≥ 38.79 for male, LAP ≥ 14.16 for female, and CMI ≥ 0.881 for male and ≥0.965 for female). CONCLUSION The ROC curve analyses of LAP and CMI showed good diagnostic accuracy in predicting MS among athletes, despite the low prevalence of MS in our sample. Thus, these indexes may be used to promote screening for primary prevention and early detection of athletes at risk for MS to establish an early prevention strategy. Larger prospective studies are necessary to validate their benefit in the general population.

Abstract
Background Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) women are at risk of developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome (MetS) due to insulin resistance (IR) and hyperandrogenism (HA). Both visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP) are simple outpatient department-based metric tools that have been introduced to screen PCOS women who are metabolically unhealthy and are at risk of development of MetS. Aims The aim of the study was to evaluate VAI and LAP in women with PCOS and to correlate them with metabolic and endocrine markers. The study also assessed these parameters amongst different PCOS phenotypes and determined their usefulness to define metabolically healthy PCOS (MH-PCOS) and metabolically unhealthy PCOS (MU-PCOS). Settings and Design The design of the study was a cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods Two hundred PCOS women were included in the study, and all the clinical, anthropometric, hormonal, biochemical and metabolic markers were assessed. The cohort was divided into MH-PCOS and MU-PCOS by the modified National Cholesterol Education Programme criteria. VAI and LAP were calculated and correlated with clinical, endocrine and metabolic parameters. Statistical Analysis Used Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to study the independent role of VAI and LAP to predict MetS. Adjusted and unadjusted odds ratios were calculated. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was done to define cut-offs in Asian Indian women. Results VAI and LAP had good ability to correctly discriminate MU-PCOS from MH-PCOS (area under the curve [AUC] [95% confidence interval (CI)]: 0.89 [0.82-0.95]) and (AUC [95% CI [0.81-0.92] =0.86) using ROC, respectively. The sensitivity of VAI and LAP corresponding to the optimal cut-off of ≥2.76 and ≥48.06 (Youden) was 84.09% and 79.55%, respectively. Similarly, the specificity of VAI and LAP was 85.26% and 79.49%, respectively. VAI has a positive predictive value of 61.7% (95% CI [23.7%-40.3%]) and a negative predictive value of 95% (95% CI [88%-99.1%]). LAP has a positive predictive value of 53% (95% CI [40.3%-65.4%]) and a negative predictive value of 93.3% (95% CI [87.6%-96.9%]). PCOS women having VAI ≥ 2.76 had 19.3 times ([95% CI: 6.50-57.70]) more chance of developing MetS. PCOS women having LAP (≥48.06) have 3.7 times ([95% CI: 1.35-10.60]) more odds. There was no difference between ROC curves of VAI and LAP (P = 0.32). Conclusion VAI cut-off ≥ 2.76 and LAP with a cut-off of ≥ 48.06 may be used as markers for predicting MetS amongst PCOS women.

Abstract
Aim Confirm and compare the degree of associations of non-traditional lipid profiles and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese adolescents, determine the lipid parameter with better predictive potential, and investigate their discriminatory power on MetS. Methods Medical measurements, including anthropometric measurements and biochemical blood tests, were undergone among a total sample of 1112 adolescents (564 boys and 548 girls) aged from 13 to 18 years. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied for assessing the relationships between the levels of traditional/non-traditional lipid profiles and MetS. We performed Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analyses to mensurate the effectiveness of lipid accumulation product (LAP) on the diagnosis of MetS. Meanwhile, areas under the ROC curve and the cut-off values were calculated for MetS and its components. Results Univariate analysis showed that all our lipid profiles were closely associated with MetS (P< 0.05). LAP index showed the closest association with MetS than the other lipid profiles. Additionally, ROC analyses indicated that the LAP index showed sufficient capabilities to identify adolescents with MetS and its components. Conclusion The LAP index is a simple and efficient tool to identify individuals with MetS in Chinese adolescents.

Abstract
Objective We aim to investigate the prognostic effects of metabolic syndrome (MS) on patients with non-ST elevated myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods Patients with NSTEMI undergoing PCI were consecutively collected. According to the presence or absence of MS, they were divided into two groups and followed up for 1 year. The endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including all-cause death, unstable angina hospitalization, heart failure (HF) hospitalization, non-fatal recurrent myocardial infarction (MI), and target lesion revascularization. Also, six subgroups were made according to gender, age, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events (GRACE) score, hypersensitive troponin (hsTNT), and several diseased vessels. Cox proportional hazard model was adopted to analyze the effect of MS on MACE in all the patients and different subgroups. Results A total of 1,295 patients were included in the current analysis and 660 (50.97%) of them had MS. About 88 patients were lost to follow-up, and the overall average follow-up was 315 days. MS was an independent risk factor for MACE (HR 1.714, CI 1.265–2.322, p = 0.001), all-cause death, heart failure (HF) hospitalization, and non-fatal recurrent MI. In the MS component, BMI ≥28 kg/m2 was positively associated with MACE. Subgroup analysis indicated the prognostic value of MS was more striking for patients with the following: age of >60, LVEF of ≤40%, GRACE of >140, multivessel disease, or hsTNT of >0.1 ng/ml. Conclusions The MS was a robust adverse prognostic factor in patients diagnosed with NSTEMI, especially among those of older age and at higher ischemic risk. A BMI of ≥28 kg/m2 independently predicted the occurrence of MACE. Prognosis may be improved by controlling abdominal obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that lipid accumulation product (LAP) was associated with the risk of cardiometabolic disease. It is not clear whether LAP could be used as a marker to identify metabolic syndrome (MetS) among Chinese ethnic groups. AIM To assess the reliability of LAP as a maker to identify MetS among Dong adults. DESIGN Population-based cross-sectional study. METHOD We included 6494 Dong individuals (1403 patients) aged 30-79 years from southwest China. MetS was established by Chinese Diabetes Society. Logistic regression model was utilized to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was utilized to calculate area under the ROC curve (AUC) and 95% CIs to obtain the identification ability for MetS. RESULTS The risk of MetS was increased with per 5 units increase of LAP (OR 1.37 [95% CI, 1.34-1.39]). Similar results were found in subgroup analyses and sensitivity analyses. Clustered metabolic risk associated with per 5 units increase of LAP was observed for people with 1 (OR 1.59 [95% CI, 1.53-1.65]), 2 (2.15 [2.06-2.24]), 3 (2.59 [2.48-2.71]), 4 (2.81 [2.69-2.95]) and 5 (3.03 [2.87-3.21]) MetS components. LAP presented higher AUC (0.915 [95% CI, 0.907-0.923]) than other included obesity indices (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION These data support evidence that LAP was related to the risk of MetS, had a high AUC and could be a reliable index for identifying MetS patients among Dong adults in Chinese.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A body shape index (ABSI) has been proven to be related to a population's CVD incidence. However, the application of this indicator has produced different results. AIM This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the ABSI in predicting the incidence of CVD in rural Xinjiang, China, and compare it with waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and body mass index (BMI). SUBJECTS AND METHODS 5375 people aged 18 years or older were included in the study. We used the Cox proportional hazard model to evaluate the relationship between WC, WHR, WHtR, BMI, and ABSI and the incidence of CVD, the area under the curve (AUC) to evaluate the predictive power of each anthropometric index for the incidence of CVD, and restricted cubic splines are used to analyse the trend relationship between anthropometric indicators and the incidence of CVD. RESULTS After multivariate adjustment, standardized WC, WHR, WHtR, BMI, and ABSI all positively correlated with the incidence of CVD. WC had the highest HR (95% CI) value, 1.64 (1.51-1.78), and AUC (95% CI) value, 0.7743 (0.7537-0.7949). ABSI had the lowest HR (95% CI) value, 1.21(1.10-1.32), and AUC (95% CI) value, 0.7419 (0.7208-0.7630). In the sex-specific sensitivity analysis, the predictive ability of traditional anthropometric indicators for the incidence of CVD is higher than that of ABSI. CONCLUSIONS In the rural areas of Xinjiang, the traditional anthropometric indicators of WC had better ability to predict the incidence of CVD than ABSI.

Abstract
Background Accumulating evidence suggests sleep duration may be involved in metabolic regulation. However, studies regarding the association with the early stage of the metabolic disease are limited, and the findings were inconsistent. Methods A study among 4922 asymptomatic adults was conducted based on a Chinese national survey in 2009. The early stage of metabolic diseases was evaluated using three proxies: triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C), the product of triglyceride and fasting glucose (TyG), and lipid accumulation product (LAP). Multivariable linear and logistic regression models were used to explore the associations of sleep duration with the three indicators. Results The linear regression models revealed that, among females, sleep duration <7 h per day, compared with 7-9 h, was associated with an increased value of LAP and TyG by 25.232% (95%CI: 10.738%, 41.623%) and 0.104 (95%CI: 0.024, 0.185), respectively, in the crude model. The effects were attenuated but remained significant for LAP (11.405%; 95%CI: 1.613%, 22.262%). Similarly, the logistic regression models further found that sleep duration <7 h per day could increase the risk of elevated LAP (OR: 1.725, 95CI%:1.042, 2.856) after adjusting for multiple covariates. By contrast, no associations were found among males. Conclusions Short sleep duration was associated with subclinical indicators of metabolic diseases, and females were more susceptible to the association. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular complications and kidney damage. Obesity- and lipid-related indices are closely related to MetS, and different indices have different predictive abilities for MetS. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of eight obesity- and lipid-related indicators, namely, body mass index (BMI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), body roundness index (BRI), Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI), body adiposity index (BAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), triglyceride glucose index (TYG), and visceral adiposity index (VAI), for MetS. METHODS A total of 1,452 relatively healthy people in Beijing were enrolled in 2016, and the correlation between the eight indicators and MetS was analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to analyze the predictive ability of the eight indicators for MetS. The Delong test was used to compare the AUC values of the eight indicators. MetS was defined according to the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (2020 edition), the revised National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Group (NCEP-ATPIII), and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). RESULTS Using these three sets of criteria, LAP, TYG, CVAI, and VAI, which are based on blood lipids, had higher AUC values for MetS prediction than BMI, BRI, AVI, and BAI, which are based on anthropometry. LAP had the highest AUC values of 0.893 (0.874-0.912), 0.886 (0.869-0.903), and 0.882 (0.864-0.899), separately, based on the three sets of criteria. CONCLUSION The eight obesity- and lipid-related indicators had screening value for MetS in relatively healthy people, and of the eight indicators, LAP performed the best.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A growing body of evidence suggests that immune cell infiltration in cancer is closely related to clinical outcomes. However, there is still a lack of research on papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). METHODS Based on single-sample gene set enrichment analysis (SSGSEA) algorithm and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) tool, the infiltration level of immune cell and key modules and genes associated with the level of immune cell infiltration were identified using PTC gene expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. In addition, the co-expression network and protein-protein interactions network analysis were used to identify the hub genes. Moreover, the immunological and clinical characteristics of these hub genes were verified in TCGA and GSE35570 datasets and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Finally, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic value of hub genes. RESULTS Activated B cell, activated dendritic cell, CD56bright natural killer cell, CD56dim natural killer cell, Eosinophil, Gamma delta T cell, Immature dendritic cell, Macrophage, Mast cell, Monocyte, Natural killer cell, Neutrophil and Type 17 T helper cell were significantly changed between PTC and adjacent normal groups. WGCNA results showed that the black model had the highest correlation with the infiltration level of activated dendritic cells. We found 14 hub genes whose expression correlated to the infiltration level of activated dendritic cells in both TCGA and GSE35570 datasets. After validation in the TCGA dataset, the expression level of only 5 genes (C1QA, HCK, HLA-DRA, ITGB2 and TYROBP) in 14 hub genes were differentially expressed between PTC and adjacent normal groups. Meanwhile, the expression levels of these 5 hub genes were successfully validated in GSE35570 dataset. Quantitative real-time PCR results showed the expression of these 4 hub genes (except C1QA) was consistent with the results in TCGA and GSE35570 dataset. Finally, these 4 hub genes had diagnostic value to distinguish PTC and adjacent normal controls. CONCLUSIONS HCK, HLA-DRA, ITGB2 and TYROBP may be key diagnostic biomarkers and immunotherapy targets in PTC.

Abstract
Aim Metabolic syndrome is one of the outcomes of a sedentary lifestyle in the modern world. In this study, we want to introduce the predictors of metabolic syndrome using anthropometric indices and Bio-Electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) test values. Method This cross-sectional study was performed on 2284 employees of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in different job categories. Metabolic syndrome was determined according to IDF criteria. Anthropometric dimensions, para-clinical tests, basic information were collected from the participants. Also, the body analysis of the participants was performed using a BIA method. Result The prevalence of metabolic syndrome in this study was 23.2% based on IDF criteria, which was 21% and 26.6% in men and women, respectively. The most important factor among the components of IDF criteria was HDL deficiency. In this study, neck circumference, fat mass, visceral fat, muscle mass percentage and waist to height ratio were observed as predictors of metabolic syndrome. Conclusion This study realized that there is association between fat mass, fat-free mass, visceral fat and muscle mass which all are some elements of body composition analysis and metabolic syndrome as a major health issue.

Abstract
AIMS Recent studies have emphasized that metabolic syndrome (MetS) was the most important modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases in the institutionalized elderly. In addition, the occurrence of MetS was higher in those with longer age-adjusted institutionalization time. The present study was conducted to assess predictive value of markers of adipose tissue dysfunction for the early screening of MetS in this population. METHODS AND RESULTS Two hundred and eleven institutionalized older adults (132 women, aged 74.3 ± 7.3 years; 79 men, aged 71.5 ± 7.3 years) were enrolled in the current cross-sectional study. Lipid accumulation product (LAP), visceral adiposity index (VAI), body adiposity index (BAI), and triglycerides (TG)/high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol ratio were determined. The receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated to compare the area under the curve of each index. The total prevalence of MetS was 23.8%. In female group, VAI and TG/HDL ratio presented moderate-high sensitivity (77.78% and 78.38%, respectively) and specificity (77.62% and 73.49%, respectively). In males group, LAP presented moderate-high sensitivity (75%) and specificity (76.9%). CONCLUSION Gender played a key role on the prediction of MetS by adipose dysfunction markers in institutionalized elderly. Accordingly, VAI and TG/HDL-cholesterol ratio showed the highest predictive value for MetS in female elderly. LAP was the strongest predictor of MetS in male elderly.

Abstract
Background The reduction of female sex hormones causes changes in the contractile properties of muscles as well as infiltration of fat in the muscle tissue. This results in a consequent decline in muscle strength. These changes are related to higher levels of functional impairment and physical disability. In this sense, several anthropometric indices have been used to quantify body and visceral fat. Thus, the objective of this paper is to propose cutoff points for adiposity anthropometric indices in order to identify low muscle mass, as well as to analyze the relationship between these indices and low muscle mass in middle-aged and older women. Methods Cross-sectional analytical study carried out in the Northeast of Brazil. The sample was formed by 593 women between 40—80 years old. Data collection included anthropometric assessment (BMI: Body Mass Index – WC: Waist Circumference – WHR: Waist-to-hip Ratio – WHtR: Waist-to-height Ratio – CI: Conicity Index – BAI: Body Adiposity Index – VAI: Visceral Adiposity Index – LAP: Lipid Accumulation Product), bioimpedance test and biochemical dosage. Moreover, sociodemographic data and practice of physical activity were collected. Descriptive statistics, Student's t-test, ROC curves, chi-squared and logistic regression were performed. Results The participants had a mean age of 53.11 (8.89) years, BMI of 28.49 (5.17) kg/m2 and WC of 95.35 (10.39). The prevalence of low muscle mass was 19.4%. Based on sensitivity and specificity of adiposity anthropometric indices, cutoff points were developed to identify the presence of low muscle mass (p < 0.05), except for VAI. After logistic regression, WC (OR = 6.2; CI 95%: 1.4—28.1), WHR (OR = 1.8; CI: 1.0—3.4), WHtR (OR = 5.0; CI 95%: 1.0—23.7) and BAI (OR = 14.5; CI 95%: 6.6—31.7) were associated with low muscle mass. Conclusions All anthropometric indices, except VAI, showed adequate accuracy in identifying low muscle mass in women, especially those that took into account WC. This suggests that they can become accessible and also be cost-effective strategies for assessing and managing health outcomes related to muscle mass analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Visceral adiposity index (VAI) is a novel marker of fat distribution and function which incorporates both anthropometric and laboratory measures. Recently, several studies have suggested VAI as a screening tool for metabolic syndrome (MetS). Here, we aimed to consolidate the results of these studies by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. METHODS AND RESULTS We searched PubMed and EMBASE online databases for eligible studies that investigated the association of VAI and MetS. After reviewing 294 records, we included 33 eligible papers with a sum of 20516 MetS and 53242 healthy participants. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed, and the relevant data was extracted. All included studies reported a significant association between VAI and MetS screening, but were highly heterogeneous in their reported effects. We pooled the diagnostic test accuracy metrics of VAI for MetS screening and showed that it has a moderate-to-high accuracy with an area under the summary receiver operating characteristics curve of 0.847, a pooled sensitivity of 78%, and a pooled specificity of 79%. Besides, we pooled the difference in means of VAI between patients with MetS and healthy controls, revealing that VAI was 2.15 units higher in MetS patients. CONCLUSIONS VAI is an accurate, low-cost, and widely available screening marker for MetS. However, further studies are needed to evaluate its applicability in clinical practice, determine an optimal cut-off, and identify populations that would benefit the most from it.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the debilitating consequences of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Early diagnosis of metabolic syndrome (MetS) with a simple but accurate method can reduce the risk of progression to CVD in PCOS. AIMS This study aimed to determine the accuracy of various anthropometric indices and lipid accumulation product (LAP), in assessing the risk of MetS in PCOS. SETTINGS AND DESIGN This is a cross-sectional study including 150 PCOS women and 100 control subjects. MATERIALS AND METHODS Anthropometric parameters were measured and calculated. Lipid profile, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), and insulin were estimated. MetS was detected according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS Logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were applied to determine the potential association of anthropometric indices such as body mass index, waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio, waist-to-height ratio, conicity index (CI), visceral adiposity index (VAI), abdominal volume index (AVI), body adiposity index (BAI), and a body shape index (ABSI) and LAP with MetS. RESULTS In our study of PCOS women of the south Indian population, the prevalence of MetS was 59.3%, which was higher than other populations and the cutoff values of VAI and LAP were 6.05 and 53, respectively. VAI showed the strongest association with MetS, followed by diastolic blood pressure BP, FPG, and LAP. CONCLUSIONS We recommend VAI and LAP as new indices for MetS diagnosis. As these indices exhibit population specificity, it is imperative that independent cutoffs are determined for every demographic population.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We aimed to evaluate the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and two latest optimised indices, waist divided by height 0.5 (WHT.5R) and body mass index (BMI) multiply by the square root of BMI and waist circumference (BMI√WC), and to comprehensively compare the ability of 10 anthropometric indices to identify MetS, including BMI√WC, WHT.5R, abdominal volume index (AVI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), Body Roundness Index (BRI). DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Ningxia, China. PARTICIPANTS A total of 3860 adults aged 18-88 years from Ningxia, China were recruited by a single stratified cluster random sampling method. METHODS ORs and 95% CIs for associations between indices and MetS were calculated using binary logistic regression, and areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves (AUCs) were performed to compare their predictive capacity for MetS. All results for men and women were analysed and presented separately. RESULTS The highest adjusted ORs for MetS were observed for the following indices: AVI (OR 15.22, 95% CI 10.88 to 21.30), WHT.5R (OR 13.83, 95% CI 9.89 to 19.35) and BMI√WC (OR 12.14, 95% CI 8.79 to 16.76) in men, whereas BRI, WHtR (both OR 14.91, 95% CI 10.39 to 21.4), WHT.5R (OR 14.22, 95% CI 9.96 to 20.29) and AVI (OR 14.03, 95% CI 9.91 to 19.87) in women. In ROC analysis, AVI (AUC: 0.767 for men and 0.749 for women) and WHT.5R (AUC: 0.761 for men and 0.747 for women) showed the highest predictive ability for MetS. CONCLUSIONS BMI√WC and WHT.5R were significantly positively associated with MetS, and AVI and WHT.5R could be useful screening tools for identifying MetS in both sexes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a pathophysiological change based on the abnormal metabolism of many substances. The study aims to investigate the performance of visceral adiposity index (VAI) and lipid accumulation product (LAP) of MetS in young adults. METHODS 448 young adults aged between 19 and 24 years old in Qinhuangdao had been included in this cross-sectional study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were used to assess the accuracy of these two obesity indicators for MetS. RESULTS The prevalence of MetS was 2.0%. In male subjects, LAP had the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) value (AUC = 0.963), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.937). In female subjects, LAP also had the highest AUC value (AUC = 0.931), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.861). No significant difference was found between the two obesity indicators (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION The two obesity indicators were valuable for the screening of MetS in young adults, and LAP was the simpler of the two.

Abstract
A simple, robust, and characterized adiposity indicator may be appropriate to be used as a risk screening tool for identifying metabolic syndrome (MetS) in adolescents. This study used dual adolescent populations to develop and validate efficient adiposity indicators from 12 characterized candidates for identifying MetS that may occur during the transition from adolescence to young adulthood. Data from the adolescent Nutrition and Health Survey in Taiwan (n = 1920, 12–18 years) and the multilevel Risk Profiles for adolescent MetS study (n = 2727, 12–16 years) were respectively used as training and validation datasets. The diagnostic criteria defined by the International Diabetes Federation for adolescents (IDF-adoMetS) and the Joint Interim Statement for adults (JIS-AdMetS) were employed to evaluate MetS. In the training dataset, principal component analysis converted 12 interrelated obesity indices into bodyfat-, lipid-, and body-shape-enhanced groups, with the first two characteristic-groups having a higher discriminatory capability in identifying IDF-adoMetS and JIS-AdMetS. In the validation dataset, abdominal volume index (AVI) among girls and waist circumference (WC) among boys were respectively validated to have a higher Youden’s index (0.740–0.816 and 0.798–0.884) in identifying the two MetS. Every 7.4 and 4.3 positive tests of AVI (cutoff = 13.96) had an accurate IDF-adoMetS and JIS-AdMetS, respectively, and every 32.4 total tests of WC (cutoff = 90.5 cm) had a correct identification for the two MetS. This study stresses the discriminatory capability of bodyfat- and lipid-enhanced adiposity indicators for identifying MetS. AVI and WC were, respectively, supported as a risk screening tool for identifying female and male MetS as adolescents transition to adulthood.

BACKGROUND To externally validate the Prediction for ASCVD Risk in China (PAR) risk equation for predicting the 5-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk in the Uyghur and Kazakh populations from rural areas in northwestern China and compare its performance with those of the pooled cohort equations (PCE) and Framingham risk score (FRS). METHODS The final analysis included 3347 subjects aged 40-74 years without CVD at baseline. The 5-year ASCVD risk was calculated using the PAR, PCE, and FRS. Discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness of the three equations in predicting the 5-year ASCVD risk were assessed before and after recalibration. RESULTS Of 3347 included subjects, 1839 were female. We observed 286 ASCVD events in within 5-year follow-up. All three risk equations had moderate discrimination in both men and women. C-indices of PAR, PCE, and FRS were 0.727 (95% CI, 0.725-0.729), 0.727 (95% CI, 0.725-0.729), and 0.740 (95% CI, 0.738-0.742), respectively, in men; the corresponding C-indices were 0.738 (95% CI, 0.737-0.739), 0.731 (95% CI, 0.730-0.732), and 0.761 (95% CI, 0.760-0.762), respectively, in women. PCE, PAR and FRS substantially underestimated the 5-year ASCVD risk in women by 70, 23 and 51%, respectively. However, PAR and FRS fairly predicted the risk in men and PAR was well calibrated. The calibrations of the three risk equations could be changed by recalibration. The decision curve analyses demonstrated that at the threshold risk of 5%, PCE was the most clinically useful in both men and women after recalibration. CONCLUSIONS All three risk equations underestimated the 5-year ASCVD risk in women, while PAR and FRS fairly predicted that in men. However, the results of predictive performances for three risk equations are inconsistent, more accurate risk equations are required in the primary prevention of ASCVD aiming to this Uyghur and Kazakh populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Some studies have shown that a high level of bilirubin is a protective factor against metabolic syndrome (MS), while a high level of transaminase is a risk factor for MS. However, the existing results are inconsistent and few cohort studies have been published. METHODS Using an ambispective cohort study, 565 Kazakhs from Xinjiang, China were selected as the study subjects. The baseline serum bilirubin and transaminase levels of the subjects were divided into quartiles and the relationship between these values and the incidence of MS was analyzed. The definition of MS was based on the Joint Interim Statement (JIS) diagnostic criteria. RESULTS The average follow-up time for the subjects was 5.72 years. The cumulative incidence of MS was 36.11% (204 of the 565 subjects), and the incidence density was 63.10/1000 person-years. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that the levels of total bilirubin (TBIL) and indirect bilirubin (IBIL) were negatively correlated with the occurrence of MS, Compared to the lowest quartile level (Q1), the hazard ratios of MS the TBIL levels at the Q2-Q4 quartiles were: 0.47 (0.31-0.71), 0.53 (0.35-0.79), and 0.48 (0.32-0.72), respectively, while IBIL levels at the Q2-Q4 quartiles showed an MS hazard ratio of 0.48 (0.32-0.72), 0.54(0.36-0.81), and 0.52 (0.35-0.77), respectively, all at a 95% confidence level. However, no relationship was found between transaminase levels and the incidence of MS. CONCLUSION Serum TBIL and IBIL levels were negatively correlated with the incidence of MS in a Kazakh population in China.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to compare the predictive ability of the anthropometric indices reflecting general, central and visceral obesity for identification of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. METHODS A multicenter, cross-sectional study that consisted of 1603 adult MHD patients (54.6 ± 16 years) was conducted in Guizhou Province, Southwest China. Eight anthropometric obesity indexes including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist-height ratio (WHtR), conicity index (Ci) and visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP), a body shape index (ABSI) and body roundness index (BRI) were recorded. MetS was defined based on the criteria of the International Diabetes Federation. Participants were categorized into four groups according to quartiles of different obesity indices. Binary logistic regression analyses were used to evaluate the associations between the eight obesity parameters and MetS. Receiver operator curve (ROC) analyses were used to identify the best predictor of MetS. RESULTS The eight anthropometric obesity indexes were independently associated with MetS risk, even after adjustment for age, sex, educational status and history of smoking. The ROC analysis revealed that all the eight obesity indices included in the study were able to discriminate MetS [all area under the ROC curves (AUCs) > 0.6, P < 0.05]. LAP showed the highest AUC and according to the maximum Youden indexes, the cut off values for men and women were 27.29 and 36.45, respectively. The AUCs of LAP, VAI, ABSI, BRI, WC, WHtR, Ci and BMI were 0.88, 0.87, 0.60, 0.78, 0.79, 0.78, 0.69 and 0.76 for men, and 0.87, 0.85, 0.65, 0.79, 0.81, 0.79, 0.73 and 0.76 for women, respectively. There was no significant difference in the AUC value between LAP and VAI, BRI/WHtR and BMI in men and between BRI/WHtR and BMI in women. The AUC value for WHtR was equal to that for BRI in identifying MetS. CONCLUSIONS Visceral obesity marker LAP followed by VAI was the most effective predictor of MetS while ABSI followed by CI was the weakest indicator for the screening of MetS in MHD patients. BRI could be an alternative obesity measure to WHtR in assessment of MetS. LAP may be a simple and useful screening tool to identify individuals at high risk of MetS particularly in middle-aged and elderly Chinese MHD patients. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level V, descriptive study.

Abstract
In the present study, we sought to examine the association between dietary patterns (DPs) and visceral adiposity, lipid accumulation product (LAP), and triglyceride-glucose index. This cross-sectional study was conducted on adults aged between 18–45 years old who lived in Tehran, Iran, between February 2017 and December 2018 (n = 270). DPs were derived using principal component analysis. We used analysis of variance to examine differences in continues variables across tertiles of major DPs. Subsequently, for the modeling of these relationships, and also considering the possible effect of the confounding factors, multivariate regression was used. Three DPs were identified: healthy pattern, mixed pattern, and western pattern, respectively. Compared with individuals in the lowest category of mixed pattern, those in the highest category had lower fasting blood sugar (96.26 ± 11.57 vs. 101 ± 28.66, p = 0.01). A significant association was found between healthy pattern, after adjustment for potential confounders, and odds of LAP; such that individuals in the top category of healthy pattern score were 71% less likely to have a high LAP compared with those in the lowest category (odds ratio, 0.29; 95% confidence interval, 0.10–0.81). We found that adherence to a healthy DP was associated with decreased LAP. To confirm the veracity of these findings, more studies should be conducted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity in the Sudan is increasing at alarming rate with the tendency of reaching an epidemic proportion in women. It is commonly associated with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Some adipokine hormones such as resistin are associated with obesity. OBJECTIVES To study how the levels of resistin, ghrelin and insulin are associated with obesity,fat distribution and (T2D) and to ascertain any interrelationships between them. SUBJECTS AND METHODS 150 women, age ≥18 years old, resident in Wad-Madani town, Sudan were participated in the study. They were divided into 3 groups according to body mass index (BMI) value: I (normal weight), II (overweight) and III (obese diabetic). Fasting serum resistin and ghrelin concentrations were measured using ELISA method. Insulin levels were determined by radioimmunoassay(RIA). RESULTS The mean±SD levels of resistin 5.80±4.91ng/mL,Ghrelin107.60±26.67pg/M and Insulin 11.92±8.54mLU/ml in obese diabetic were found to be greater than in normal or overweight women. In normal weight values were 3.07±2.15 ng/mL 83.30±13.38pg/mL, and 6.62±6.77mLU/ml for resistini, ghrelin and Insulin, respectively. Values for overweight women 3.64±2.63 pg/mL 90±17.35 pg/mL and 8.13±7.54 mLU/ml for resistin, ghrelin and insulin respectively. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Increased BMI, waist circumference (WC) and hormones (ghrelin and resistin) were associated with insulin resistance. Further studies are needed to accept or refute these findings.

Abstract
Objective This study is aimed at evaluating the diagnostic value of blood lipid indicators (BLIs) for insulin resistance (IR) among major ethnic groups in Xinjiang, China, to identify the most valuable indicators and appropriate cut-off points for each ethnic group and to lay the foundation for the early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of metabolic diseases in remote rural areas. Methods Overall, 418 Uygurs, 331 Kazakhs, and 220 Hans were randomly included in our study. The homeostasis model assessment was the gold standard for identifying IR. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the diagnostic value, and the nomogram was utilized to analyze the predictive value. The size of the area under the curve (AUC) reflected the accuracy of screening and prediction. Results Differences in races were observed in terms of IR and BLIs, and the Kazakhs had the highest IR level at 5.27 mmol/L. The correlation between IR and BLIs differed among the three races. For the Kazakhs and Hans, all BLIs, except total cholesterol (TC), were correlated to IR. However, for the Uygurs, only the triglyceride (TG) level, TG/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio, and TC/HDL-C ratio were associated with IR. After further adjustment of confounding factors, these indicators were still correlated to IR. BLIs that independently correlated to IR in the three nationalities had a certain diagnostic value for IR. In terms of the AUC size, the TG level was the highest in Uygurs, the TG/HDL-C ratio was the highest for Kazakhs and Hans, and the corresponding best cut-off points for IR were 1.515, 1.230, and 1.495 mmol/L, respectively. In addition, for each race, when the indicators with a certain diagnostic value were combined, the diagnostic value for IR was higher. Conclusion BLIs had a certain diagnostic value for IR and could be used as a screening tool for IR among Uygurs, Kazakhs, and Hans in Xinjiang. These findings are extremely important for the prevention and treatment of IR and metabolic diseases in remote rural areas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The lipid accumulation product (LAP) is a powerful marker for predicting metabolic syndrome (MS) in adults. The present study aimed to propose a novel indicator, the children's lipid accumulation product (CLAP), and to assess its association with MS among Chinese children and adolescents. METHODS A total of 683 Chinese children aged 8-15 years were recruited using a stratified cluster sampling method in this cross-sectional study. The presence of MS was defined according to the NCEP-ATP III criteria. The effects of BMI, WHtR and the CLAP for predicting MS were compared using logistic regression models and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. RESULTS The prevalence of MS was 5.1% (6.6% and 3.5% among boys and girls, respectively). Overall obesity (based on BMI), abdominal obesity (based on WHtR) and CLAP≥P75 were significantly associated with an increased risk of MS (ORs (95% CIs) were 143.79 (18.78-1101.22), 86.83 (27.19-277.27), 150.75 (20.11-1130.19), respectively). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) for the CLAP was higher than that for BMI and WHtR for predicting MS, with AUC (95% CI) values of 0.944 (0.913-0.975), 0.895 (0.864-0.927), and 0.928 (0.903-0.953), respectively. CONCLUSION The children's lipid accumulation product (CLAP) was an effective indicator associated with MS in Chinese children and adolescents and was better than BMI and WHtR for predicting MS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study evaluated the predictive ability of five known "best" obesity and lipid-related parameters, including body mass index (BMI), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), triglyceride-to-high-density-lipoprotein-cholesterol (TG/HDL-C), lipid accumulation product (LAP) and visceral adiposity index (VAI), in identifying metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese elderly population. METHODS A total of 6722 elderly Chinese subjects (≥60 years) were recruited into our community-based cross-sectional study from April 2015 to July 2017. The anthropometrics, blood pressure, fasting plasma glucose, blood lipid profiles, family history and health-related behaviours were assessed. RESULTS The prevalence of MetS was 40.4% (32.5% in males and 47.2% in females). With the increase in the number of MetS components (from 0 to 5), all the five parameters showed an increase trend in both genders (all P for trend < 0.001). According to receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analyses, all the five parameters performed high predictive value in identifying MetS. The statistical significance of the areas under the curves (AUCs) differences suggested that the AUCs of LAP were the greatest among others in both genders (AUCs were 0.897 in males and 0.875 in females). The optimal cut-off values of LAP were 26.35 in males and 31.04 in females. After adjustment for potentially confounding factors, LAP was strongly associated with the odds of having MetS in both genders, and ORs for MetS increased across quartiles using multivariate logistic regression analysis (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION LAP appeared to be a superior parameter for predicting MetS in both Chinese elderly males and females, better than VAI, TG/HDL-C, WHtR and BMI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To compare the accuracy of different obesity indexes, including waist circumference (WC), weight-to-height ratio (WHtR), body mass index (BMI), and lipid accumulation product (LAP), in predicting metabolic syndrome (MetS) and to estimate the optimal cutoffs of these indexes in a rural Chinese adult population. METHODS This prospective cohort involved 8468 participants who were followed up for 6 years. MetS was defined by the International Diabetes Federation, American Heart Association, and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute criteria. The power of the 4 indexes for predicting MetS was estimated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and optimal cutoffs were determined by the maximum of Youden's index. RESULTS As compared with WHtR, BMI, and LAP, WC had the largest area under the ROC curve (AUC) for predicting MetS after adjusting for age, smoking, drinking, physical activity, and education level. The AUCs (95% CIs) for WC, WHtR, BMI, and LAP for men and women were 0.862 (0.851-0.873) and 0.806 (0.794-0.817), 0.832 (0.820-0.843) and 0.789 (0.777-0.801), 0.824 (0.812-0.835) and 0.790 (0.778-0.802), and 0.798 (0.785-0.810) and 0.771 (0.759-0.784), respectively. The optimal cutoffs of WC for men and women were 83.30 and 76.80 cm. Those of WHtR, BMI, and LAP were approximately 0.51 and 0.50, 23.90 and 23.00 kg/m2, and 19.23 and 20.48 cm.mmol/L, respectively. CONCLUSIONS WC as a preferred index over WHtR, BMI, and LAP for predicting MetS in rural Chinese adults of both genders; the optimal cutoffs for men and women were 83.30 and 76.80 cm.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a complex disorder with high socioeconomic costs and a high global prevalence. The serum concentrations of some trace elements are higher in people with metabolic syndrome compared to normal individuals. Curcumin is derived from turmeric and has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin may therefore have a potential role in the management of cardiovascular risk. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of curcumin on serum copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and Zn/Cu ratio levels in patients with metabolic syndrome. A double-blind clinical trial was designed in which 120 individuals with metabolic syndrome were randomly assigned to one of three groups: curcumin 1gr/day, phospholipidated curcumin 1gr/day, or a placebo, each taken for 6 weeks. Serum copper and zinc were measured before and after intervention. At baseline, in addition to obtaining the anthropometric characteristics of participants, a fasting blood sample was taken from each participant, and the concentrations of serum Cu and Zn were measured by atomic absorption (Varian AA 240 FS model). Serum Zn concentrations rose significantly in the phospholipidated curcumin and curcumin groups, being significantly higher (p <.001) in the phospholipidated curcumin group than in the curcumin group (p <.05). Serum Zn concentration fell in the control group (p <.05). Changes in serum Zn level from baseline to the levels after six weeks' intervention were significantly different between the groups, but changes in serum Cu from between baseline until after intervention were not significantly different. The serum Zn/Cu level in phospholipidated curcumin and curcumin groups after intervention was higher than for the control group, but it was more significant in the group taking phospholipidated curcumin (p <.001). Curcumin and phospholipidated curcumin complex, given at a dose of 1 g per day for six weeks, were associated with an increase in serum zinc and consequently zinc-to-copper ratio.

Abstract
In the present study, we aimed to examine the association between lipid accumulation product (LAP) and visceral adiposity index (VAI) with dietary pattern (DP) in the US adults. Participants of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) with data available on dietary intake from 2005 to 2010 were included. DPs were derived by principal component analysis. We applied analysis of covariance and multivariable-adjusted linear regressions accounting for the masked variance and utilizing the proposed weighting methodology. The analytical sample comprised 18,318 participants (mean age = 45.8 years), of whom 48.3% (n = 8607) were men with no age difference by gender (P = .126). The first DP was representative of a diet rich in carbohydrate and sugar, total fat and saturated fatty acid (SFA), high-caloric dieatry pattern; the second DP was highly loaded with vitamins, minerals and fiber (nutrient-dense dietary patten), and the third DP was mainly representative of high dietary polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) (healthy fat DP). The adjusted (age, sex, race, physical activity, smoking, C-reactive protein) mean of LAP, VAI and glucose homeostasis indices increased across increasing quarters of the first DP score (all P < .001), while across increasing score of the second DP, the adjusted mean of LAP, VAI, glucose homeostasis indices decreased (all P < .001). Findings were similar in adjusted linear regressions models. Our findings support that affordable measurements, such as VAI and LAP, could be good alternative surrogate markers of visceral fat. They are also significantly related to DPs in same line as with glucose/insulin homeostasis and anthropometric indices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association between visceral adiposity index (VAI) - a novel indicator for the assessment of visceral adipose tissue and prostate enlargement in non diabetic patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Four hundred patients who were admitted to the Urology clinic between January and December 2014 with complaints of BPH(benign prostatic hyperplasia )/LUTS(male lower urinary tract symptoms)were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Patients were divided into two groups according to their prostate volume and international prostate symptom score (IPSS) value. They were compared in terms of age, body mass index (BMI), VAI, prostate volume, PSA, post micturional residual volume (PMRV), uroflowmetry Q max value, triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) and fasting blood sugar (FBS). RESULTS Although univariate analyses reveal that age, BMI, waist circumference (WC), FBS, TG, HDL-C level and TG/HDL ratio were correlated with prostate volume, only age [1.125 OR (1.088-1.164), p = .00001], BMI [1.119 OR (1.040-1.204), p = .003], TG [1.043 OR (1.016-1.071), p = .002], HDL-C [0.923 OR (0.860-0.990), p = .025] and VAI [1.194 OR (1.110-1.305), p = .011] were statistically significant in multivariate analysis. A positive correlation was found between VAI value and prostate volume in the Spearman correlation test (r = 0.29, p = .00001). The calculated area under the curve (AUC) for prostate volumes of 30, 40 and 50 ml were 0.680 (0.621-0.738), 0.625 (0.570-0.681) and 0.590 (0.528-0.652), respectively. CONCLUSION Our study revealed a positive correlation between VAI and prostate volume. Our results are needed to be tested with well-designed randomized prospective cohort studies.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the prediction of long-term cardiometabolic risk using anthropometric and central obesity parameters. Methods: A total of 390 Saudi subjects (men 42.8%) aged 18-50 years were enrolled in a cross-sectional study in King Saud University, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between August 2014 and January 2016. All participants were instructed to fast for 12 hours before taking blood samples for glucose and lipid panel analyses. A full anthropometric measurement and bioelectric impedance analysis was performed. The anthropometric and central obesity parameters were used for correlation with 30-year Framingham and life-time American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association risk scores. We used receiver operator characteristic curves to select the best predictors with the highest sensitivity and specificity. Results: The best discriminators of the long-term cardiometabolic risk among all the studied variables in men were the visceral adiposity index (VAI) (AUC=0.767), conicity index (CI) (AUC=0.817), and mid-arm muscular area (MAMA) (AUC=0.639). The best predictors for women were body mass index (AUC=0.912), waist circumference (AUC=0.752), and lipid accumulation product (AUC=0.632). The Kappa coefficient and 95% confidence interval ranged from 0.1 to 0.35, which suggests that there is a poor to fair agreement between these indices and cardiovascular risk scores. Conclusion: Long-term cardiometabolic risk can be predicted using simple anthropometric and central obesity indices, and these discriminators were not the same in Saudi men and women.

Abstract
The present study evaluated the performance of three novel obese indicators, visceral adiposity index (VAI), lipid accumulation product (LAP) and waist circumference-triglyceride index (WTI), for identifying metabolic syndrome(MetS) in type 2 diabetes. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 711 type 2 diabetes in Qinhuangdao. The MetS was defined as the definition of Chinese Diabetes Society. Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were performed to assess the accuracy of three obese indicators as diagnostic tests for MetS. The prevalence of MetS was 71.3%. In men, among all three obese indicators, the LAP had the highest area under curve (AUC) value (AUC = 0.894), followed by VAI (AUC = 0.860) and WTI (AUC = 0.855). In women, among all three obese indicators, the LAP had the highest AUC value (AUC = 0.906), followed by WTI (AUC = 0.887) and VAI (AUC = 0.881). However. there was no significant difference between the three obese indicators(P > 0.05). Three obese indicators were effective indicators for the screening of MetS, LAP and WTI are more simple.
