Abstract
Microplastics adsorb toxic substances and act as a transport medium. When microplastics adsorbed with toxic substances accumulate in the body, the microplastics and the adsorbed toxic substances can cause serious diseases, such as cancer. This work aimed to develop a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) detection method for surface-adsorbent toxic substances by forming gold nanogaps on microplastics using surface acoustic waves (SAWs). Polystyrene microparticles (PSMPs; 1 μm) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), including pyrene, anthracene, and fluorene, were selected as microplastics and toxic substances, respectively. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs; 50 nm) were used as a SERS agent. The Raman characteristic peaks of the PAHs adsorbed on the surface of PSMPs were detected, and the SERS intensity and logarithm of the concentrations of pyrene, anthracene, and fluorene showed a linear relationship (R2 = 0.98), and the limits of detection were 95, 168, and 195 nM, respectively. Each PAH was detected on the surface of PSMPs, which were adsorbed with toxic substances in a mixture of three PAHs, indicating that the technique can be used to elucidate mixtures of toxic substances. The proposed SERS detection method based on SAWs could sense toxic substances that were surface-adsorbed on microplastics and can be utilized to monitor or track pollutants in aquatic environments.

Abstract
Herein, a molecularly imprinted surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) sensor was developed for the selective capture and sensitive detection of tryptamine in foods. The SERS sensor exploited silver nanoparticle-decorated TiO2 (TiO2@Ag) substrates for Raman signal enhancement via synergistic effect of electromagnetic enhancement and photoinduced charge-transfer, whilst surface functionalization with the molecularly imprinted polymer ensured selective tryptamine capture. The SERS spectrum of tryptamine on the sensor closely matched that predicted by density functional simulations. The SERS intensity for tryptamine on the developed TiO2@Ag@MIP sensor increased linearly with the logarithm of the tryptamine concentration over the range of 10-6-10-2 mol L-1, with a LOD of 4.85 × 10-7 mol L-1. Tryptamine was detected in a spiked white vinegar sample, and its recoveries were in the range of 92.00%-111.40%. The SERS sensor could be used for the detection of tryptamine in actual samples.

Abstract
Microplastics (MPs) have been proven to concentrate hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) from seawater as the sorbent phase, and the concentration of HOCs in aqueous solutions could be estimated from MPs preloaded with HOCs by equilibrium partition coefficient. This study firstly proposed to in situ quantify fluoranthene (a representative HOCs) pre-concentrated on MPs using surface enhance raman scattering (SERS) in combination with mathematical models, as an efficient monitoring tool for fluoranthene pollution in the aquatic environment. AgNPs-coated quartz (AgNPs@SiO2) substrate was fabricated. The SERS substrate was tested using fluoranthene standard solution with the minimal detectable concentration of 1 ng/mL achieved. Applying SERS for the detection of fluoranthene sorbed on MPs, the detection limit of fluoranthene on MPs was 3.3 ng/g, where the concentration in the corresponding equilibrium seawater was 0.97 ng/mL. Since more than one fluoranthene peak was observed, the quantitative detection was investigated by interval partial least square model. Eight characteristic peak ranges were selected to develop the model for predicting fluoranthene concentration, with R2c and R2v of 0.90 and 0.82, respectively. The study provides a promising solution to monitor trace level of contaminations in aquatic environment, using MPs as the passive sampler.

Abstract
Elimination of massive aggregation of nanoparticles in the sample of high ionic strength is a prerequisite for the sensitive analysis through a surface-enhanced Raman spectrometry (SERS). We present a system of silver colloid modification composed of two thiolated modifiers (3-mercaptopropionic acid and thiolated polyethylene glycol) both creating a strong Ag-S bond. At their optimal molar ratio, the polymer acts as a steric barrier preventing direct nanoparticle-nanoparticle interaction, while the low-molecular organic acid creates areas accessible for the analyte molecules. Thus, this approach is an excellent tool for sustaining both the colloidal stability and SERS sensitivity. The functionality of the system was demonstrated on the SERS analysis of myoglobin from a saline solution. The favorable creation of hot spots was achieved by laser-induced sintering.

Abstract
Environmental pollution, a major problem worldwide, poses considerable threat to human health and ecological environment. Efficient and reliable detection technologies, which focus on the appearance of emerging environmental and trace pollutants, are urgently needed. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has become an attractive analytical tool for sensing trace targets in environmental field because of its inherent molecular fingerprint specificity and high sensitivity. In this review, we focused on the recent developments in the integration of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) with SERS for facilitating sensitive detection of environmental pollutants. An overview and classification of different types of MNPs for SERS detection were initially provided, enabling us to categorize the huge amount of literature that was available in the interdisciplinary research field of MNPs based SERS technology. Then, the basic working principles and applications of MNPs in SERS detection were presented. Subsequently, the detection technologies integrating MNPs with SERS that eventually were used for the detection of various environmental pollutions were reviewed. Finally, the advantages of MNP-basedSERS detection technology for environmental pollutants were concluded, and the current challenges and future outlook of this technology in practical applications were highlighted. The application of the MNPs-basedSERS techniques for environmental analysis will be significantly advanced with the great progresses of the nanotechnologies, optics, and materials.

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy is a constantly developing analytical method providing not only high-sensitive quantitative but also qualitative information on an analyte. Thus, it is reasonable that it has been tested as a promising detection method in column separations. Although its implementation in analytical separations is not widespread, some surprising results, like enormous signal enhancement and demonstrations of single-molecule identifications, proved in only a few special examples, indicate the potential of the method. The high detection sensitivity and selectivity would be of paramount importance in trace analyses of biologically relevant molecules in complex matrices. However, the combination of surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy with column separation methods brings two principal issues. Interactions of analytes with metal substrates can cause deteriorations of separations and the detection can be affected by background electrolytes or elution agents. Thus, in principle, this review is on the experimental and methodological solutions to these problems. First, theoretical and practical aspects of Raman scattering, and excitation of surface plasmon in colloid suspensions of nanoparticles and on planar nanostructured substrates are briefly explained. Advances in experimental arrangements of on-line and at-line couplings with column liquid phase separation methods, including microfluidic devices, are described together with chosen analytical applications.

Abstract
Usage and dosage of food antiseptics are very concerned due to their decisive influence in food safety. Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect was employed in this research to realize trace potassium sorbate (PS) and sodium benzoate (SB) detection. HfO2 ultrathin film-coated Ag NR array was fabricated as SERS substrate. Protected by HfO2 film, the SERS substrate possesses good acid resistance, which enables it to be applicable in acidic environment where PS and SB work. Regression relationship between SERS spectra of 0.3~10 mg/L PS solution and their concentration was calibrated by partial least squares regression (PLSR) method, and the concentration prediction performance was quite satisfactory. Furthermore, mixture solution of PS and SB was also quantitatively analyzed by PLSR method. Spectrum data of characteristic peak sections corresponding to PS and SB was used to establish the regression models of these two solutes, respectively, and their concentrations were determined accurately despite their characteristic peak sections overlapping. It is possible that the unique modeling process of PLSR method prevented the overlapped Raman signal from reducing the model accuracy.

Abstract
In this study, the hybrid Au–Ag hexagonal lattice of triangular and square lattice of quadrate periodic nanoparticle arrays (PNAs) were designed to investigate their extinction spectra of the localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPRs). First, their simulating extinction spectra were calculated by discrete dipole approximation (DDA) numerical method by changing the media refractive index. Simulation results showed that as the media refractive index was changed from 1.0 to 1.2, the maximum peak intensity of LSPRs spectra had no apparent change and the wavelength to reveal the maximum peak intensity of LSPRs spectra was shifted lower value. Polystyrene (PS) nanospheres with two differently arranged structures were used as the templates to deposit the hybrid Au–Ag hexagonal lattice of triangular and square lattice of quadrate periodic PNAs by evaporation method. The hybrid Au–Ag hexagonal lattice of triangular and square lattice of quadrate PNAs were grown on single crystal silicon (c-Si) substrates, and their measured extinction spectra were compared with the calculated results. Finally, the fabricated hexagonal lattices of triangular PNAs were investigated as a sensor of polychlorinated biphenyl solution (PCB-77) by observing the wavelength to reveal the maximum extinction efficiency (λmax). We show that the adhesion of β-cyclodextrins (SH-β-CD) on the hybrid Au–Ag hexagonal lattice of triangular PNAs could be used to increase the variation of λmax. We also demonstrate that the adhesion of SH-β-CD increases the sensitivity and detection effect of PCB-77 in hexagonal lattice of triangular PNAs.
