Abstract
Introduction Condyloma acuminatum usually occurs in the external genitalia and rarely in the bladder mucosa. Here, we report a case of condyloma acuminatum of the bladder that was detected concurrently with urothelial carcinoma. Case presentation A 42-year-old man was referred to our urology department with positive urine cytology for urothelial carcinoma. Cystoscopy revealed a broad-base nonpapillary bladder tumor. The patient underwent a transurethral resection of the bladder tumor. Pathological examination revealed urothelial carcinoma, high-grade pT1, and concurrent resection of condyloma acuminatum. DNA was extracted from the paraffin-embedded transurethral resection of the bladder tumor tissue specimens. HPV11 was detected in condylomas by PCR and in situ hybridization, whereas HPV was not detected in urothelial carcinomas. Conclusion We report a rare case of condyloma acuminatum of the bladder that was concurrently diagnosed with urothelial carcinoma from the same site.

Risk factors for human papillomavirus detection in urine samples of heterosexual men visiting urological clinics in Japan. J Infect Chemother 2018; 24:713-717. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to investigate human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence and identify risk factors for HPV detection in urine samples among heterosexual men attending urological clinics. MATERIALS AND METHODS Spot urine samples including initial stream were collected from 845 participants, and the cell pellets were preserved into liquid-based cytological solution. After DNA extraction from each sample, HPV-DNA amplification and genotyping were performed using Luminex multiplex polymerase chain reaction. Participants completed a questionnaire on their age, education, smoking status, sexuality, age of sexual debut, marital status, and present history of sexually transmitted infections. RESULTS Data from 803 patients were included in the analysis. Overall HPV and high-risk (HR)HPV prevalence in urine samples were 6.2% and 3.1%, respectively. HPV and HR-HPV prevalences were the highest in men with urethritis, and were significantly higher than those without urethritis. HPV detection was the most common in men aged 40-49 years, although significant detection differences were not age-related. Urethritis was an independent risk factor for HPV detection from urine samples, with an odds ratio (OR) of 4.548 (95%CI; 1.802-11.476) (p = 0.001). On the other hand, a sub-analysis excluding men with urethritis demonstrated that prostate cancer was a significant risk factor for HPV detection, with OR of 2.844 (95%CI; 1.046-7.732) (p = 0.0410), whereas was not a significant risk for HR-HPV detection in urine samples. CONCLUSION Prostate cancer may represent a risk factor for HPV detection in the urine of men without urethritis. REGISTRATION OF CLINICAL TRIALS The authors did not register to Clinical Trial because this is observational and cross-sectional study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To review the evidence of the benefits and harms of infant male circumcision, and the legal and ethical perspectives of infant male circumcision. METHODS We conducted a systematic search of the literature using PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library up to June 2015. We searched the medical law literature using the Westlaw and Lexis Library law literature resources up to June 2015. RESULTS Male circumcision significantly reduced the risk of urinary tract infections by 87%. It also significantly reduced transmission of human immunodeficiency virus among circumcised men by 70%. Childhood and adolescent circumcision is associated with a 66% reduction in the risk of penile cancer. Circumcision was associated with 43% reduction of human papilloma virus infection, and 58% reduction in the risk of cervical cancer among women with circumcised partners compared with women with uncircumcised partners. Male infant circumcision reduced the risk of foreskin inflammation by 68%. CONCLUSION Infant male circumcision should continue to be allowed all over the world, as long as it is approved by both parents, and performed in facilities that can provide appropriate sterilization, wound care, and anesthesia. Under these conditions, the benefits of infant male circumcision outweigh the rare and generally minor potential harms of the procedure.

Abstract
The possible role of human papillomavirus (HPV) in the aetiology of papillary tumor of the bladder has been evaluated and a review of the literature concerning this issue was made. A group of 17 patients affected by bladder papillary tumor was analysed. Surgical specimens were collected for virological and histological analysis. The DNA of the following viruses was searched by polymerase chain reaction (PCR): Adenovirus, Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), Human Papillomaviruses (HPV), Polyomaviruses (BKV and JCV). The results showed that 15/17 (88 %) patients with papillary bladder tumor were found negative for each viral-searched DNA; only one sample was positive for HPV (6 %) genotype 6, which is considered to convey a low risk for cancer development and only one was positive for BKV (6 %). From the results obtained there seems to be no relationship between viral infection and the presence of bladder papillary tumor. Moreover, in the examined population the association bladder carcinoma-HPV, found by others, has not been confirmed. The homogeneity of the specimens studied was such that it would not be affected by the temporal factor, as were cases of more or less advanced cancers. Nonetheless specimens from patients with advanced cancers (G III) were negative to HPV infection. The data do not appear indicative for a correlation between viral DNA presence and histological parameters. Thus, in the light of the data emerging from this investigation, no causal relationship can be established between HPV infection and papillary bladder tumors.

Abstract
Despite the increasing evidence of human papillomavirus (HPV) vertical transmission, this route is regarded as less clinically important because of the detections of transient HPV DNA. However, recent studies have provided clear evidence of papillomavirus productive infection in lymphocytes, placenta, and bovine fetal tissue. Furthermore, a model of papillomavirus latency has been recently proposed that could explain the failure or transience in HPV detection observed in some infected infants. This new evidence of hematogeneous and vertical spread of HPV suggests that these modes of transmission should be investigated in greater detail to obtain a better understanding of the infection and a fuller awareness of the preventive measures that can be taken against HPV-related diseases.

Abstract
Our understanding of the pathogenesis of bladder cancer has improved considerably over the past decade. Translating these novel pathobiological discoveries into therapies, prevention, or strategies to manage patients who are suspected to have or who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer is the ultimate goal. In particular, the chemoprevention of bladder cancer development is important, since urothelial cancer frequently recurs, even if the primary cancer is completely removed. The numerous alterations of both oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes that have been implicated in bladder carcinogenesis represent novel targets for therapy and prevention. In addition, knowledge about these genetic alterations will help provide a better understanding of the biological significance of preneoplastic lesions of bladder cancer. Animal models for investigating bladder cancer development and prevention can also be developed based on these alterations. This paper summarizes the results of recent preclinical and clinical chemoprevention studies and discusses screening for bladder cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The authors elucidated an etiologic role of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in carcinoma of the bladder. METHODS One hundred seventeen of 224 patients with bladder carcinoma who were treated between 1997 and 2009 were enrolled in this study. The presence of HPV DNA was tested on frozen carcinoma tissues that were obtained by transurethral resection using a polymerases chain reaction-based method. Localization of HPV was observed on archival tissue specimens by in situ hybridization (ISH) for high-risk HPV DNA. Cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor 2A (inhibits CDK4) (p16-INK4a) and minichromosome maintenance protein-7 (mcm-7)-surrogate markers for high-risk HPV-E7 oncoprotein-and HPV-L1 (capsid) protein expression were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 52, and 58, and an unknown HPV type were detected in 18 of 117 samples (15%) from patients with bladder carcinoma. HPV16 was identified in 6 samples, HPV18 was identified in 4 samples, and HPV33 was identified in 3 samples. All were single HPV type infections. HPV was detected in 38% (12 of 28) of histologic grade 1 bladder carcinomas, 8.5% (6 of 71) of grade 2 bladder carcinomas, and in 0% (0 of 18) of grade 3 bladder carcinomas. Multivariate analysis indicated that younger age (<60 years; odds ratio [OR], 10.9; 95% confidence interval [CI], 2.6-45.3) and grade 1 tumors (OR, 4.5; 95% CI, 1.2-17.0) were associated with HPV infection. ISH analysis indicated that high-risk HPV DNA was localized in the nuclei of tumor cells of all HPV-positive samples. p16-INK4a and mcm-7 were expressed in 94% and 89% of HPV-positive carcinoma cells, respectively. HPV-L1 protein expression, which suggested reproductive HPV infection, was not observed in any carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS The current results indicated that high-risk HPV is likely to be a causative agent of some low-grade bladder carcinomas that develop in younger patients.

Abstract
Urinary bladder cancer (UBC) ranks ninth in worldwide cancer incidence. It is more frequent in men than in women. We review the main established/proposed factors, both environmental and genetic, associated with bladder cancer etiology and prognosis. Data were extracted from previous reviews and original articles identified from PubMed searches, reference lists, and book chapters dealing with the reviewed topics. Evaluation and consensus of both the contribution of each factor in bladder cancer burden and the appropriateness of the available evidences was done during an ad hoc meeting held during the 18th Congress of the European Society for Urological Research. Cigarette smoking and specific occupational exposures are the main known causes of UBC. Phenacetin, chlornaphazine and cyclophosphamide also increase the risk of bladder cancer. Chronic infection by Schistosoma haematobium is a cause of squamous cell carcinoma of the bladder. NAT2 slow acetylator and GSTM1 null genotypes are associated with an increased risk of this cancer. Vegetables and fresh fruits protect against this tumor. Regarding prognosis, there is little knowledge on the predictive role of environmental exposures and genetic polymorphisms on tumor recurrence and progression and patient's death. Although active tobacco smoking is the most commonly studied factor, no definitive conclusion can be drawn from the literature. More research is needed regarding the effect of complex etiological factors in bladder carcinogenesis. Subgroup analysis according to stage, grade, and molecular features may help in identifying specific etiological and prognostic factors involved in different bladder cancer progression pathways.

Abstract
Only scant information is available on the association between family history of kidney cancer and risk of renal cell cancer (RCC), particularly as concerns the variation of the risk according to sex, age, and type of relative or the association of family history of other cancers with RCC. We thus investigated the issue using data from a large multicentric case-control study conducted in Italy between 1992 and 2004 on 767 patients (494 men and 273 women) under age 80 years, with incident, histologically confirmed RCC, and 1,534 controls under age 80 years, admitted to hospital for a wide spectrum of acute, nonneoplastic conditions and frequency matched 2:1 to cases by center, sex, and age. Conditional logistic regression models, conditioned on center, sex, and age and adjusted for year of interview, smoking, body mass index, and number of brothers and sisters were used to estimate odds ratios (OR). Eighteen RCC and 8 controls reported a family history of kidney cancer in one first-degree relative [OR, 5.2; 95% confidence interval (95% CI), 2.2-12.2]. No significant heterogeneity emerged according to sex or age of the proband or of the affected relative, or smoking habits, body mass index, and history of hypertension of the proband. Although not significant, the OR was higher when the affected relative was a sibling (OR, 7.0; 95% CI, 1.8-27.7) rather than a parent or child (OR, 4.3; 95% CI, 1.5-12.9), as suggested from previous studies. The OR of RCC was also significantly elevated for a family history of prostate cancer (OR, 1.9), leukemias (OR, 2.2), or any cancer (OR, 1.5).

Abstract
The association between human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and carcinogenesis has long been established in literature, with the strongest evidence for its role in cervical carcinoma. The role of HPV in urological tumors has been investigated and sporadic reports have linked HPV infection to bladder, prostate, renal, penile, and testicular cancer. Although less rigorously studied, there are a few conflicting results about the role of HPV in the development of malignant renal tumors. Moreover, no data are available for association of HPV DNA and expression of P16 in benign renal tumors. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from 62 renal tumors (40 clear cell, 9 papillary, and 3 chromophobe renal cell carcinomas, 1 collecting duct carcinoma, 2 urothelial carcinoma of renal pelvis and 7 oncocytomas) were immunostained with low-risk and high-risk HPV DNA (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 42, 51, 52, 56, 58). Tissue microarray sections of 62 tumors were stained with P16 by immunohistochemistry. Signal amplified colorimetric in situ hybridization was performed on microarray sections using biotinylated probes for HPV subtypes 6, 11, 16, 18. A nuclear dot-like signal was considered positive for low-risk and high-risk HPV by immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization and nuclear or cytoplasmic staining is considered positive for P16. No staining for HPV DNA and P16 was found in any type of renal tumors. Our results support that HPV does not seem to play a role in the development of benign and malignant renal tumors.

Abstract
Genital human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, globally one of the most common sexually transmitted infections, is associated with cancers, genital warts, and other epithelial lesions. Although a consistent and coherent picture of the epidemiology and pathogenesis of genital HPV infections in women has developed over the past two decades, less is known about these infections in men. Available data suggest that, as with women, most genital HPV infections in men are symptomless and unapparent, and that HPV16 is probably the most frequently detected type. In populations of similar age, the prevalence of specific HPV types is usually lower in men than in women. Whether this observation relates to lower incidence or shorter duration of infection in men than in women has not yet been determined. Seroprevalence of specific anti-HPV antibodies also seems to be lower in men than in women of similar age, a difference that might be due to lower viral load, lower incidence or duration of infection or lower antibody responses, or both, in men compared with women. Differences in sexual behaviour may also be important predictors of genital HPV infection. With the anticipated availability of prophylactic HPV vaccines in the near future, it becomes increasingly important to understand the incidence and duration of HPV infections in men to develop cost-effective approaches to prevention through a combination of immunisation and promotion of risk-reduction strategies.

Abstract
The Virus of the Human Papiloma (HPV), classically he/she has been related with infections of sexual transmission and processes wicked oncologists of the feminine genital apparatus and with less frequency of the masculine one. The new technical diagnostics, based on molecular biology (by means of polymerase chain reaction), they help to a better epidemic approach, an improvement in the I diagnose viral, and a correct therapeutic focus. The object of this work is to revise the current state of the HPV from the points of view etiopathogenics, epidemic, clinical, diagnosis, therapeutic and preservative.

Abstract
Prostate cancer remains a significant health concern for men throughout the world. Recently, there has developed an expanding multidisciplinary body of literature suggesting a link between chronic inflammation and prostate cancer. In support of this hypothesis, population studies have found an increased relative risk of prostate cancer in men with a prior history of certain sexually transmitted infections or prostatitis. Furthermore, genetic epidemiological data have implicated germline variants of several genes associated with the immunological aspects of inflammation in modulating prostate cancer risk. The molecular pathogenesis of prostate cancer has been characterized by somatic alterations of genes involved in defenses against inflammatory damage and in tissue recovery. A novel putative prostate cancer precursor lesion, proliferative inflammatory atrophy, which shares some molecular traits with prostate intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate cancer, has been characterized. Here, we review the evidence associating chronic inflammation and prostate cancer and consider a number of animal models of prostate inflammation that should allow the elucidation of the mechanisms by which prostatic inflammation could lead to the initiation and progression of prostate cancer. These emerging insights into chronic inflammation in the etiology of prostate carcinogenesis hold the promise of spawning new diagnostic and therapeutic modalities for men with prostate cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE Sexual, physical, and medical factors were investigated in a case-control study of prostate cancer. METHODS This population-based study, conducted from 1995 to 1999 in northeastern Ontario, used cancer registry-identified cases (n=760), aged 45 to 84 years, diagnosed between 1995 and 1998. Age-frequency matched controls (n=1632) were obtained from telephone listings. Two separate logistic regression analyses considered: 1) sexual and physical; and 2) medical factors. RESULTS For the sexual-physical model, marital status, family income, maximum height, number of marriages, having children, age at first marriage, birth, and needing to shave, and acne were not significantly related to risk. In the medical model, a family history of prostate cancer (OR, 2.99; 95% CI, 2.21-4.04) and history of venereal disease (OR, 2.12; 95% CI, 1.27-3.53) were associated with significantly increased risk. A history of allergies (OR, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.60-1.00), benign prostatic hyperplasia (OR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.49-0.81), and an annual physical exam (OR, 0.43; 95% CI, 0.21-0.85) were associated with reduced risk. Other factors considered in the medical conditions model, body mass index, smoking non-filter cigarettes, and family income were not associated with prostate cancer. CONCLUSIONS This study is consistent with other studies that suggest that infectious agents may be involved in prostate cancer development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The association of infection or inflammation of the prostate with prostate cancer has been suggested but not established. This study was undertaken to investigate this association. METHODS Cases were Olmsted County, Minnesota, residents with histologically proven prostate cancer diagnosed between January 1980 and December 1996. Cases (n = 409) were each matched to 2 control subjects (n = 803) on age at diagnosis of prostate cancer, residency in Olmsted County, and duration of the community medical record. The medical record of each subject was reviewed for a history of acute or chronic bacterial prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome (inflammatory type). RESULTS The relative odds of prostate cancer were elevated in men with history of any type of prostatitis (odds ratio [OR] = 1.7; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.1-2.6) or acute prostatitis (2.5; 1.3-4.7). The mean time from most recent episode of acute prostatitis to the diagnosis of prostate cancer was 12.2 years. After exclusion of men with acute prostatitis 2 years before the index date, the relationship was somewhat reduced (1.9; 0.9-3.8). Chronic bacterial prostatitis was more weakly associated with prostate cancer (1.6; 0.8-3.1), whereas chronic pelvic pain syndrome was not associated at all (0.9; 0.4-1.8). CONCLUSIONS Infection in the form of acute or chronic bacterial prostatitis may be associated with prostate cancer. However, our data do not provide compelling evidence to support this. As a result of the limitations of current methods of assessing chronic prostatitis, biochemical or tissue markers of infection or inflammation of the prostate may help clarify their role in the pathogenesis of prostate cancer.

Abstract
PURPOSE We provide an overview of some of the basic, clinical and epidemiological research that has been conducted to investigate the potential role of chronic inflammation in prostate carcinogenesis and to provide direction for future research on this hypothesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS We reviewed the literature on this topic. RESULTS Chronic inflammation has long been linked to cancers with an infectious etiology, such as stomach, liver and colon cancer, in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Whether intraprostatic inflammation contributes to prostate carcinogenesis is unknown. Inflammation is frequently present in prostate biopsies, radical prostatectomy specimens and tissue resected for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Also, inflammatory infiltrates are often found in and around foci of atrophy that are characterized by an increased proliferative index. These foci, called proliferative inflammatory atrophy, may be precursors of early prostate cancer or may indicate an intraprostatic environment favorable to cancer development. Epidemiological studies have indirectly examined the role of chronic inflammation in prostate carcinogenesis through studies of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory factors. When taken together studies of sexually transmitted infections, clinical prostatitis, and genetic and circulating markers of inflammation and response to infection hint at a link between chronic intraprostatic inflammation and prostate cancer. CONCLUSIONS Additional well-designed basic, clinical and epidemiological studies are needed to resolve questions about the role of chronic inflammation in prostate carcinogenesis and to determine if intraprostatic inflammation is a rational target for chemoprevention.

Abstract
Established associations between human papillomavirus (HPV) and lower genital tract cancers provide a framework from which to evaluate a possible pathogenic role for the virus in cancers at nongenital sites. Proposed associations must fit coherently within the context of our current knowledge of the epidemiology and biology of HPV. In this article, insights obtained from studies of the etiologic link between mucosal-type HPV infection and four specific human cancers are described briefly. Specific characteristics, shared among cancers caused by HPV, are then used by extrapolation to discuss possible associations between certain other nongenital cancers and mucosal HPV infections in a manner intended to supplement, and in no way to supplant, the classic Hill criteria for causal inference.

Abstract
p53 codon 72 Arg homozygosity has been associated with increased risk of developing cervical cancer. This association has been tested in various human cancers with controversial results. In the present study we investigated the impact of this polymorphism in a population-based case-control study of bladder cancer. Using allele-specific polymerase chain reaction to detect the p53 codon 72 polymorphism, we tested peripheral blood samples from 50 patients with bladder cancer and 99 healthy individuals of similar age and from the same geographical region. Tumor specimens from all bladder cancer patients were examined for the presence of human papilloma virus (HPV). The distribution of p53 alleles in bladder cancer patients and in controls was statistically significant (P<0.002; odds ratio, 2.67; 95% confidence interval, 1.38-5.20), and homozygosity for arginine at residue 72 was associated with an increased risk for bladder cancer (P<0.00002; odds ratio, 4.69; 95% confidence interval, 2.13-10.41). The presence of HPV was found in six of the 50 patients (12%). This is the first study correlating p53 codon 72 polymorphism with bladder cancer. Our results provide evidence that this p53 polymorphism is implicated in bladder carcinogenesis and that individuals harboring the Arg/Arg genotype have an increased risk of developing bladder cancer.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), mainly HPV type 16, 18, 31 and 33 (an important aetiological factor in squamous cell carcinoma, SCC, of the anogenital region) in SCC of the urinary bladder. MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixteen SCC from the urinary bladder were evaluated using non-isotopic in situ hybridization with a sensitive detection system for the presence of high-risk HPV 16/18, or 31/33/51, and for HPV6/11, a low-risk type commonly found in condylomata. Previously published studies were also reviewed and assessed. RESULTS No high-risk HPV was found in any of the SCC of the bladder evaluated. Previous reports identified nine HPV-positive SCC of a total of 105, including the present series. In four of these positive cases, HPV types were found that are considered a high risk in anogenital carcinomas. CONCLUSION From the present and previous results, we conclude that HPV has no major role in the pathogenesis of SCC of the urinary bladder.
