Abstract
Physical inactivity is a growing societal concern with significant impact on public health. Identifying barriers to engaging in physical activity (PA) is a critical step to recognize populations who disproportionately experience these barriers. Understanding barriers to PA holds significant importance within patient-facing healthcare professions like nursing. While determinants of PA have been widely studied, connecting individual and social factors to barriers to PA remains an understudied area among nurses. The objectives of this study are to categorize and model factors related to barriers to PA using the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Research Framework. The study population includes nursing students at the study institution (N = 163). Methods include a scoring system to quantify the barriers to PA, and regularized regression models that predict this score. Key findings identify intrinsic motivation, social and emotional support, education, and the use of health technologies for tracking and decision-making purposes as significant predictors. Results can help identify future nursing workforce populations at risk of experiencing barriers to PA. Encouraging the development and employment of health-informatics solutions for monitoring, data sharing, and communication is critical to prevent barriers to PA before they become a powerful hindrance to engaging in PA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Undergraduate nursing students currently face unprecedented challenges and experience suboptimal health and well-being. Transformative changes are necessary within nursing education curricula. This integrative review describes the current literature on yoga for health and well-being in nursing education for use by educators. METHOD The framework by Whittemore and Knafl guided this review. The electronic database search included CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE, ProQuest, PubMed, and Scopus. RESULTS Seventeen articles were identified for inclusion. CONCLUSION This review provides important strategies for nursing educators to use to improve the health and well-being of undergraduate nursing students. Yoga is a feasible, evidence-based intervention that can be implemented to support students and meet recommendations set forth by nursing organizations. Findings also indicate yoga is an effective tool for promoting positive changes in this population. There are opportunities for educators to further explore the benefits of yoga for those entrusted with the profession's future. [J Nurs Educ. 2024;63(1):17-23.].

Abstract
BACKGROUND The United States faces a nursing shortage driven by a burnout epidemic among nurses and nursing students. Nursing students are an integral population to fuel the nursing workforce at high risk of burnout and increased rates of perceived stress. OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper is to describe WellNurse, a holistic, interdisciplinary, multidimensional longitudinal research study that examines evidence-based interventions intended to reduce burnout and increase resilience among graduate and undergraduate nursing students. METHODS Graduate and undergraduate nursing students matriculated at a large public university in the northeastern United States are eligible to enroll in this ongoing, longitudinal cohort study beginning in March 2021. Participants complete a battery of health measurements twice each semester during the fourth week and the week before final examinations. The measures include the Perceived Stress Scale, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory, the Brief Resilience Scale, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. Participants are eligible to enroll in a variety of interventions, including mindfulness-based stress reduction, mindful eating, fitness training, and massage therapy. Those who enroll in specific, targeted interventions complete additional measures designed to target the aim of the intervention. All participants receive a free Fitbit device. Additional environmental changes are being implemented to further promote a culture that supports academic well-being, including recruiting a diverse student population through evidence-based holistic admissions, inclusive teaching design, targeted resilience and stress reduction workshops, and cultural shifts within classrooms and curricula. The study design protocol is registered at Open Science Framework (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/NCBPE). RESULTS The project was funded on January 1, 2022. Data collection started in March 2022. A total of 267 participants have been recruited. Results will be published after each semester starting in December 2023. WellNurse evaluation follows the Rapid Cycle Quality Improvement framework to continuously monitor ongoing project processes, activity outcomes, and progress toward reducing burnout and increasing resilience. Rapid Cycle Quality Improvement promotes the ability to alter WellNurse interventions, examine multiple interventions, and test their effectiveness among the nursing education population to identify the most effective interventions. CONCLUSIONS Academic nursing organizations must address student burnout risk and increase resilience to produce a future workforce that provides high-quality patient care to a diverse population. Findings from WellNurse will support evidence-based implementations for public baccalaureate and master's nursing programs in the United States. Abstract
PURPOSE Mechanisms leading to burnout, associated with high turnover in nursing, may start as early as in nursing school. Given health habits (e.g., diet, physical activity, and sleep) can exacerbate or lessen the impact of burnout, this study examined current barriers and facilitators to healthy diet, physical activity levels, and sleep among nursing undergraduates (UGs) and early-career nurses (ECNs). RESEARCH DESIGN Qualitative descriptive study. SAMPLE 25 nursing UGs and 25 ECNs (within 3 years of graduation) from a Southeastern college of nursing. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS After development of theory-informed interview guides, participants conducted interviews either in-person or by phone, which were audio-recorded and transcribed. Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis was used to analyze the transcripts. RESULTS All but one (aged 54) UG was in their early 20s and ECNs were in their early to mid-20s. Most participants were white, females. Time and stress were the strongest barriers among UGs and ECNs for adherence to healthy diet, physical activity, although stress did act as a facilitator for physical activity in a subset of both UGs and ECNs. Shiftwork was a common barrier to healthy behaviors among ECNs. CONCLUSION The fact that the more common and stronger barriers to healthier behaviors among UGs and ECNs were the same give credence to the idea that processes associated with burnout begin during or before nursing education and are persistent.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the factors involved in Iranian nurses' health-seeking behavior. In this qualitative exploratory descriptive study, 15 nurses from hospitals affiliated to Iran and Qazvin University of Medical Sciences were interviewed from April to March 2020. Data were collected via purposive sampling by unstructured in-depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings identified 5 main themes, "fear," "trust/distrust," "excuse," "accessibility," and "support" that were involved in nurses' health-seeking behavior. The findings of this study may contribute to a deeper understanding of the factors involved in nurses' health-seeking behavior and pave the way for further research and policy making regarding nursing workforce health.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about how health behaviors cluster to form meaningful patterns that influence health outcomes in young adult nursing students. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify the unique health behavior patterns among young adult nursing students in China and examine the associations between health behaviors and chronic diseases. METHODS Using an electronic app, the achievements of an exercise target, sedentary behavior, smoking and drinking, and dietary patterns were assessed in 1,480 nursing student participants aged 18-24 years from two medical universities in Eastern China. RESULTS A four-class model was developed using latent class analysis that included the "failure to achieve exercise target, alcohol-drinking, and insufficient fruit and vegetable group" (Group 1, n = 187, 12.6%), the "alcohol-drinking and sedentary behavior group" (Group 2, n = 290, 19.6%), the "sedentary behavior only group" (Group 3, n = 721, 48.7%), and the "failure to achieve exercise target only group" (Group 4, n = 282, 19.1%). Logistic regressions indicated that nursing students in Group 2 (odds ratio [ OR ] = 0.42), Group 3 ( OR = 0.51), and Group 4 ( OR = 0.30) were less likely to have chronic diseases than those in Group 1 after adjusting for sociodemographic variables. CONCLUSIONS The health behaviors were clustered in different patterns among young adult nursing students. Tailoring interventions to specific groups is suggested to improve health outcomes.

Abstract
AIM We examined health-promoting lifestyle in undergraduate nursing students and its potential as a predictor of health-promoting behaviors and basis for curriculum improvement. BACKGROUND A health-promoting lifestyle is essential among students for their future nursing roles. Development requires the internalization of healthy behaviors beyond the cognitive learning domain. METHOD Guided by Pender's health promotion model, this multisite, cross-sectional, and descriptive-correlational study surveyed 1,634 undergraduate nursing students in Bali, Indonesia. RESULTS The regression analysis revealed that student profiles explained the 5 percent variation in their overall health-promoting lifestyle. Perceived health status was observed to be a significant predictor ( p < .05) of health-promoting behaviors among a diverse sample of undergraduate nursing students. CONCLUSION The study findings emphasize the role of nursing education in instilling healthy behaviors among undergraduate students and the importance of integrating student-centered and context-responsive health promotion strategies into the nursing curriculum.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Content validation is an integral part of intervention development and should be established before initiation of trials. In collaboration with a community research advisory board, the objective of this study was to analyze expert ratings and qualitative feedback for the Midlife Black Women's Stress-Reduction Wellness (B-SWELL) intervention materials. METHODS The B-SWELL intervention is a culturally tailored 8-week intervention designed to lower cardiovascular disease risk in midlife Black women by leveraging stress reduction and promoting the adoption of the American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7 healthy lifestyle behaviors. Using a mixed methods approach, 12 experts consisting of midlife Black women (n = 6), researchers (n = 3), and integrative health specialists (n = 3) rated the B-SWELL materials for content accuracy, topic relevance, stress relevance, cultural appropriateness, feasibility, usefulness, ease of use, and appeal using a 5-point Likert scale (1, strongly disagree, to 5, strongly agree). Qualitative narrative data were integrated with the ratings. RESULTS Combined expert ratings for the B-SWELL materials were high (range, 4.43-4.66). Group ratings differed, with midlife Black women having the highest mean ratings for both the individual B-SWELL modules and the overall binder (4.71 and 4.97, respectively), followed by researchers (4.56 and 4.73, respectively) and integrative health specialists (4.11 and 4.40, respectively). Qualitative data provided insight into deficiencies, supporting refinements of the B-SWELL materials. CONCLUSIONS The B-SWELL materials exhibited strong evidence of content and face validity. Researchers and clinicians are encouraged to establish content validity before implementation of culturally appropriate interventions aimed at high-risk populations.

Abstract
Introduction: Inadequate sleep is a major public health concern, with large economic, health, and operational costs to Australia. Despite the implementation of public sleep health campaigns, approximately 40% of Australian adults do not obtain the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep. Thus, while people may know how much sleep is required, this knowledge may not be adequately translated to actual sleep behavior. Consequently, this study aims to examine the discrepancy between knowledge of sleep recommendations and self-reported sleep behaviors.Methods: A sample of 1265 Australian adults (54% female, aged 18-65) completed a phone interview as part of the 2017 National Social Survey and were asked questions about their knowledge of sleep guidelines and their actual sleep behavior. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with awareness of sleep recommendations and whether this corresponded with reported sleep duration.Results: The final sample size was 998. Although 94% of the sample were aware of current sleep recommendations, 23% of participants did not self-report regularly obtaining 7-9 h sleep per night. These participants were less likely to want to obtain more sleep, less likely to view sleep as a priority before stressful events, and less likely to self-report good health.Conclusion: Although a majority of the sample were aware of sleep recommendations, almost a quarter of the participants' behavior did not align with their knowledge. Future sleep health campaigns should consider options beyond education, including emphasis on practical strategies and modifiable lifestyle factors to assist individuals to obtain the recommended amount of sleep.

Abstract
AIM Nursing students experience high levels of stress, anxiety and depression. This study examined associations between health behaviors and stress, anxiety and depression in Australian nursing students. DESIGN this was a cross-sectional study. METHODS Participants completed an online survey providing demographic information and responses to the 21-item Depression Anxiety Stress Scale, Fagerström Test for Nicotine Dependence, short Food Frequency Questionnaire, Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Workforce Sitting Questionnaire. Associations were evaluated using multivariate linear regression. RESULTS Mild to extremely severe stress (46.6%), anxiety (52.8%) and depression (42.2%) were prevalent. Intake of snack-foods was associated with higher depression (β = 8.66, p < 0.05) and stress (β = 3.92, p = 0.055) scores. More time spent sitting was associated with higher depression (β = 0.48, p < 0.001) and stress (β = 0.28, p < 0.05) scores. Skipping meals correlated with higher stress, anxiety and depression scores. CONCLUSION More support must be provided to nursing students to manage psychological distress and mental health during university study.

Abstract
Sub-Saharan African (SSA) migrants face nutrition and lifestyle changes upon arrival in a host country. The shift in diet and lifestyle reflects post-migration acculturation and could predispose migrants to nutrition- and lifestyle- related chronic diseases. A mixed-methods systematic review of published studies and the grey literature on post-migration nutrition and lifestyle transition among SSA migrants will be undertaken. Studies published in English and conducted from 2000 to 2020 using quantitative and/or qualitative methods will be included. Ten bibliographic databases will be searched: Scopus, Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Global Health, CINAHL, PubMed, ProQuest, PsycINFO, Informit and Web of Science. Data extraction will be informed by the Cochrane PROGRESS-Plus framework and the Joanna Briggs Institute manual. The quality of the included studies will be appraised for risk of bias using validated tools. An integrated approach to quantitative and qualitative data synthesis through data transformation will be undertaken, and a narrative synthesis of the findings will be provided. This protocol is guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses Protocols (PRISMA-P) guidelines and provides insight into the scope and parameters of the systematic review to be conducted. The aim of the review is to evaluate the association between post-migration nutrition and lifestyle transition and the risk of developing chronic diseases among SSA migrants in Australia. This review will provide insight into possible areas for interventions to improve the health of migrants. Abstract
Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is being increasingly studied as an indicator of wellbeing. This study evaluated the HRQoL of nursing students and relationships between lifestyle behaviors including smoking, diet, alcohol intake and physical activity. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2018 using the Short-Form 12V2 to measure the HRQoL of 475 students from both regional and metropolitan universities in Queensland, Australia. z-scores were aggregated into a Physical Composite Score (PCS) and a Mental Composite Score (MCS). Multivariate linear regression was used to explore the associations. Nursing students (94.5% female) had lower HRQoL scores relative to the general Australian population. Students enrolled at the regional university, with higher income; higher intakes of vitamin A, calcium, and iodine; and more physical activity had a higher Mental Composite Score, but those with health conditions and high intakes of meat, fat, carbohydrates, and sugar reported lower Physical Composite Score compared to their counterparts. Skipping breakfast, physical inactivity, and alcohol score were inversely associated with HRQoL. This study highlights the need for strategies to address the poor lifestyle and HRQoL in nursing students to support their physical and mental health.

Abstract
Chronobiology is not routinely taught to biology or medical students in most European countries. Here we present the results of the chronobiology practicals of a group of students of the University of Padova, with a view to highlight some interesting features of this group, and to share a potentially interesting cross-faculty teaching experience. Thirty-eight students (17 males; 22.9 ± 1.6 yrs) completed a set of self-administered electronic sleep quality [Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)], chronotype and sleepiness [Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS)] questionnaires. They then went on to complete sleep diaries for two weeks. Sixteen also wore an actigraph, 8 wore wireless sensors for skin temperature, and 8 underwent a course of chronotherapy aimed at anticipating their sleep-wake timing. Analyses were performed as practicals, together with the students. Average PSQI score was 5.4 ± 1.9, with 15 (39%) students being poor sleepers. Average ESS score was 6.5 ± 3.3, with 3 (8%) students exhibiting excessive daytime sleepiness. Seven classified themselves as definitely/moderately morning, 25 as intermediates, 6 as moderately/definitely evening. Students went to bed/fell asleep significantly later on weekends, it took them less to fall asleep and they woke up/got up significantly later. Diary-reported sleep onset time coincided with the expected decrease in proximal skin temperature. Finally, during chronotherapy they took significantly less time to fall asleep. In conclusion, significant abnormalities in the sleep-wake patterns of a small group of university students were observed, and the students seemed to benefit from chronotherapy. We had a positive impression of our teaching experience, and the chronobiology courses obtained excellent student feedback.

Abstract
University is a period in which students can experience a considerable amount of challenges that may influence their health lifestyles. The aim of this article is to discover the role of therapeutic adherence to the Mediterranean diet and self-efficacy as mediators in the relationship between sleep quality and the average grades of nursing students. The sample was made up of 334 nursing students, with a mean age of 21.84 years (SD = 6.24). Pittsburgh Sleep Quality questionnaires, adherence to the Mediterranean diet and the Baessler and Shwarzer General Self-efficacy Scale were administered. The results of the multiple mediational model determined that quality of sleep has a direct influence on academic performance. Adherence to the Mediterranean diet and quality of sleep have an effect on the degree of self-efficacy of nursing students. This study demonstrates that good sleep quality and adherence to the Mediterranean diet improve academic performance in nursing students. Future research should include multicenter longitudinal studies.
