Prominent moths (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae) of Colombia

Leaf-footed Bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Coreidae) of Colombia: Annotated checklist, distribution, and description of a new species

Coreidae is a family of phytophagous hemipterans known as leaf-footed bugs, which can become important pests for various crops. Information on this family in Colombia is scarce, and it is necessary to address its diversity and distribution for adequate management of potential pest species, as well as for the knowledge and conservation of the whole group. To contribute to the knowledge of the family Coreidae in the country, a catalog was carried out based on a review of the bibliography, eleven national biological collections and the citizen science platform iNaturalist. A total of 300 species were found, 115 of which are new records for the country. A key for the genera of Hypselonotini is included, as well as photographs of the habitus of most of the species and distributional maps. Also, a new species of the genus Sundarellus Brailovsky & Barrera from the departments of Guaviare and Meta is described.

An updated checklist of the wild silkmoths (Lepidoptera, Saturniidae) of Colombia

In recent years, the study of wild silkmoths (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) has increased exponentially due to the intense sampling effort and the use of molecular evidence for species delimitation, which led to the description of numerous new taxa especially from the Neotropic. Given these rapid advances, the checklist of the Colombian Saturniidae needs to be updated to cover the taxonomy, distribution, and diversity of these moths in the country. After an extensive review of literature, data repositories, and collections, an updated and comprehensive list of Saturniidae from Colombia is presented, including their occurrence status in each Colombian department. The checklist includes 7 subfamilies, 55 genera, and 790 taxa (766 in species rank) of Saturniidae in Colombia. Current distribution data show that the genus Winbrechlinia, the subgenusDarylesia, 379 species, and 18 subspecies are endemic to Colombia. Moreover, a dichotomic key to the Colombian subfamilies is provided. A few taxonomic changes are proposed based on a thorough taxonomic revision of the Colombian taxa. This revision also addresses the issue of outdated species names reported in the first checklist of Colombian Saturniidae (Amarillo-Suárez 2000) and excludes old records of taxa that are considered dubious for Colombia based on new evidence. By presenting an updated list of Colombian species, including the newly described taxa, this study aims at eliminating confusion stemming from outdated names and provides a useful resource for researching and conservating Saturniidae in Colombia. We wish to offer a common reference for future studies on the biodiversity and biogeography of moths in the Neotropical realm.

Anurocampa (Lepidoptera: Notodontidae): two new species, systematics and immature stages

Notodontidae (Lepidoptera, Noctuoidea) comprise over 4,000 described species distributed worldwide, among which nearly half are restricted to the Neotropics. Morphology of adults and immatures of Notodontidae have been broadly investigated and many larval, pupal, and adult characters were found to be synapomorphies of subfamilies and tribes. Despite this, the current classification of Notodontidae remains unsettled as most recent classification systems are contradictory due to reliance on incomplete global sampling and, many taxa, especially in the Neotropics, are still informally classified as incertae sedis. Anurocampa Herrich-Shäffer was recently treated as an incertae sedis genus, and immature and adult characters may provide further evidence for its systematic position among the Notodontidae. With this goal in mind, the present study describes the immature stages of Anurocampa mingens Herrich-Shäffer from Brazil and describes two new species in the genus from Costa Rica based on morphology and mitochondrial DNA: Anurocampa markhastingsi Chacón and St Laurent sp. nov. and Anurocampa abelardochaconi Chacón and St Laurent sp. nov. and discusses the systematic position of Anurocampa.
