Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of the Assisted Reproduction Act, implemented in 2007 in Taiwan to reduce the number of embryos to transfer, on the trends over time regarding the rate of multiple births, preterm delivery, low birth weight (LBW), and small for gestational age (SGA) among deliveries using assisted reproductive technology (ART). STUDY DESIGN From the Birth Reporting Registry and the Assisted Reproduction Registry, we retrieved data of 4 016 530 live birth deliveries between 2001 and 2020; among them 71 000 (1.77%) were after ART. We calculated the rate of multiples and perinatal outcomes per 1000 deliveries annually from 2001 to 2020 for deliveries using and not using ART and computed the population attributable risk. We performed interrupted time series to assess the effect of the intervention, ie, the Assisted Reproduction Act. RESULTS The proportion of deliveries following ART was 0.57% in 2001 and increased to 4.03% in 2020. After the intervention, there were decreasing trends over time for rates of multiples (-10.63 per year, P < .001), preterm delivery (-6.74, P = .003), LBW (-9.38, P < .001), and SGA (-4.48, P = .001) among ART deliveries. There was also an immediate decrease right after intervention (-53.45, P = .005) for SGA after ART. The population attributable risk trends before and after intervention were both increasing for all outcomes. CONCLUSIONS The Assisted Reproduction Act in Taiwan was associated with a decreasing trend of multiples, preterm delivery, LBW, and SGA over time since 2008 among ART deliveries. In particular, there was an immediate decrease of SGA right after the intervention.

Abstract
Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is an emerging field in medicine that incorporates complex procedures and has profound ethical, moral, social, religious, and economic implications not just for the individuals who have access to this method but also for society. In this narrative review, we summarise multiple aspects of ART procedures and the possible consequences on the mother and newborn. Moreover, we provide an overview of the possible long-term consequences of ART procedures on the health of newborns, although longitudinal evidence is particularly scant. Users should be informed that ART procedures are not risk-free to prepare them for the possible negative outcomes that may occur in the perinatal period or even in childhood and adulthood. Indeed, risk estimates point to increased liability for major nonchromosomal birth defects; cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and urogenital (in male newborns) defects; and any other birth defects. Less certainty is present for the risk of neuropsychiatric sequelae in children conceived through ART. Thus, its application should be accompanied by adequate counselling and psychological support, possibly integrated into specific multidisciplinary clinical programmes.

Abstract
More than 10 million children have been born with assisted reproductive technology (ART) as we begin to enter the third generation of individuals conceived by ART. Here we summarise key messages from an enlarging body of literature regarding their health. Earlier research had pointed towards increases in perinatal, neonatal and neurological risks, such as preterm birth, low birth weight, congenital malformations and cerebral palsy. Many of these risks have continued to persist in most recent work but have shown reduction. Newer research proposes long-term cardiometabolic and endocrine concerns. Fortunately, most reports conclude there is little or no risk of increased childhood malignancy or abnormal neurodevelopment. Moving forward, new research may benefit from changes in comparator groups and a better understanding of infertility per se in ART, and the confounding role it probably plays in many of the known risk associations, to reliably scan the horizon for health threats for individuals born after ART.

Abstract
Assisted reproductive technology (ART) led to the birth of 60,381 infants in 2020 in Japan. This number is set to increase as the future interest in ART is anticipated to rise. Couples receiving ART are monitoring the outcomes of these treatments to see whether any differences exist between babies conceived naturally and those conceived via ART. This study investigated the relationship between the long-term outcome of children born from ART with a focus on physical and psychomotor developments. A large volume of data concerning each relationship with ART was collected from various observational studies. Several findings indicate that, over time, the physical characteristics of babies born by ART, and those born naturally are comparable. However, some reports indicate that, until they reach school age, there may be a small difference in growth. ART and naturally conceived children do not vary in academic achievement or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Taken together, it is difficult to conclude with certainty that ART is the source of these differences since they may arise from the child's genetic factors or their environment.

Abstract
Since the world's first in vitro fertilization baby was born in 1978, there have been more than 8 million children conceived through assisted reproductive technologies (ART) worldwide, and a significant proportion of them have reached puberty or young adulthood. Many studies have found that ART increases the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes, including preterm birth, low birth weight, small size for gestational age, perinatal mortality, and congenital anomalies. However, data regarding the long-term outcomes of ART offspring are limited. According to the developmental origins of health and disease theory, adverse environments during early life stages may induce adaptive changes and subsequently result in an increased risk of diseases in later life. Increasing evidence also suggests that ART offspring are predisposed to an increased risk of non-communicable diseases, such as malignancies, asthma, obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. In this review, we summarize the risks for long-term health in ART offspring, discuss the underlying mechanisms, including underlying parental infertility, epigenetic alterations, non-physiological hormone levels, and placental dysfunction, and propose potential strategies to optimize the management of ART and health care of parents and children to eliminate the associated risks. Further ongoing follow-up and research are warranted to determine the effects of ART on the long-term health of ART offspring in later life.

Abstract
There is a broad phenotypic spectrum of monogenic polycystic kidney diseases (PKDs). These disorders often involve cilia-related genes and lead to the development of fluid-filled cysts and eventual kidney function decline and failure. Preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic (PGT-M) disorders has moved into the clinical realm. It allows prospective parents to avoid passing on heritable diseases to their children, including monogenic PKD. The PGT-M process involves embryo generation through in vitro fertilization, with subsequent testing of embryos and selective transfer of those that do not harbor the specific disease-causing variant(s). There is a growing body of literature supporting the success of PGT-M for autosomal-dominant and autosomal-recessive PKD, although with important technical limitations in some cases. This technology can be applied to many other types of monogenic PKD and ciliopathies despite the lack of existing reports in the literature. PGT-M for monogenic PKD, like other forms of assisted reproductive technology, raises important ethical questions. When considering PGT-M for kidney diseases, as well as the potential to avoid disease in future generations, there are regulatory and ethical considerations. These include limited government regulation and unstandardized consent processes, potential technical errors, high cost and equity concerns, risks associated with pregnancy for mothers with kidney disease, and the impact on all involved in the process, including the children who were made possible with this technology.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Does fertility treatment, specifically assisted reproductive technology (ART), affect head circumference in term singletons? DESIGN A total of 32,651 women who delivered at term at 12 maternity hospitals in Japan between 2010 and 2018 were included in the analysis; of these, 1941 (5.9%) and 2984 (9.1%) women conceived through ART and non-ART fertility treatments (timed intercourse, ovulation induction or artificial insemination), respectively. The study evaluated the adjusted odds ratios of head circumference ≥90th percentile stratified by infant sex and type of ART procedure after adjusting for covariates, with natural conception as the reference group. RESULTS ART significantly increased the risk of head circumference ≥90th percentile (adjusted odds ratio 1.56 [95% confidence interval 1.25-1.96]), whereas non-ART fertility treatment did not increase the risk (1.14 [0.92-1.42]). This increased risk of head circumference ≥90th percentile was observed exclusively in male neonates (1.73 [1.33-2.26]) and not in female neonates (1.18 [0.76-1.85]) in the ART group. Frozen embryo transfer (FET), FET in a hormone replacement cycle (HRC-FET) and blastocyst-stage embryo transfer were significantly associated with head circumference ≥90th percentile (1.60 [1.26-2.02], 1.70 [1.30-2.22] and 1.72 [1.33-2.24], respectively). CONCLUSIONS The use of ART, particularly FET, HRC-FET or blastocyst-stage embryo transfer, was linked with a heightened risk of head circumference ≥90th percentile compared with non-ART fertility treatment or natural conception. The increased risk was observed only in male neonates.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the IVF outcomes of conventional insemination for less severe teratozoospermia (LST) patients (sperm morphology >2% and <4% normal forms and total motile sperm count ≥10 × 106) and normal sperm patients defined by WHO criteria 2010 in the interest of reducing intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) rate in IVF. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this retrospective study, a total of 330 patients were recruited in the conventional IVF insemination. Among them, there were 76 patients in LST group and 254 patients in the normal sperm group. Fertilization rate, abnormal fertilization rate, embryo quality, implantation rate, chemical pregnancy rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate and live birth rate were assessed. RESULTS No statistical differences were achieved in the percentage of normally fertilized eggs (85.9% vs. 85.8%), abnormal fertilization rates of 1 PN (2.76% vs. 3.01%) or 3 PN (5.70% vs. 6.30%), good embryo rate (52.4% vs. 51.5%), implantation rate (20.9% vs 17.5%), chemical pregnancy rate (45.1% vs. 39.4%), clinical pregnancy rate (36.0% vs. 31.7%), live birth rate (28.9% vs. 26.7%) and abortion rate (9.6% vs. 10.2%) between LST group and normal sperm group regardless of the sperm morphology. CONCLUSION Patients with less severe teratozoospermia may not need ICSI in their IVF treatment since the outcomes particularly the fertilization rates were not affected by the less compromised sperm morphology at all when compared with the normal sperm patients.

Abstract
Assisted reproductive technology (ART) includes fertility treatment in which either eggs or embryos are handled outside a female's body to promote successful pregnancies and healthy offspring. Current ART procedures encompass in vitro fertilization with or without intracytoplasmic sperm injection. The most common complication of ART is related to the consequences of multiple pregnancy, which can be prevented or minimized by reducing the number of embryos transferred to the uterus, commonly single embryo transfer. ART has been shown to be variably associated with adverse short- and long-term perinatal outcomes, including cerebral palsy, autism, neurodevelopmental imprinting disorders, and cancer. However, there is uncertainty as to whether reported problems are related to the ART procedure itself, to factors related to infertility, to other medical and environmental factors, or a combination thereof. From a pathophysiological perspective, whether ART alters epigenetic mechanisms of gene expression, leading to later developmental, medical, and behavioral disorders, is an area of active investigation. With the meticulously conducted short- and long-term outcome studies completed so far, overall, and after controlling for multiple gestations and preterm delivery, the results suggest that ART is a safe procedure, offering hope to many parent(s) wishing for a healthy child. This paper highlights ART methods and the risk factors and confounders in the interpretation of short- and long-term outcome data, providing the reader with a means to evaluate findings and conclusions of outcome studies. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: Assisted reproductive technology (ART) is a relatively safe procedure. Single embryo implantation optimizes outcome. Informed consent, including the risks and benefits of ART, should be required. Ongoing longitudinal studies are necessary to fully understand ART outcomes.

Abstract
Assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs) are employed by single individuals and couples who are not otherwise able to conceive spontaneously. While the use of ARTs is increasing, research is lacking on the attempts made by adolescent offspring conceived via ARTs to integrate their ART conception into their identity and negotiate a connection with, and autonomy from, their parents. The present article reviews studies investigating adolescent development and the parent-adolescent relationship in diverse family forms created by ARTs (mainly heterosexual and lesbian parent families), and discusses the results in light of attachment, identity development, and emotional distance regulation theories. Overall, the results indicate that the psychological adjustment of adolescents conceived via ARTs is not undermined by the manner of their conception, and that they enjoy positive relationships with their parents with no difference from those enjoyed by spontaneously conceived adolescents. However, it remains unknown whether the development of a reproductive identity in adolescence is likely to influence adolescents' interest in searching for or contacting their donors, surrogates, and/or donor siblings. The results suggest the relevance of considering the parent-adolescent relationship, disclosure, and identity formation issues when planning psychological counseling and support interventions with ART parents and their adolescent offspring, and emphasize the need to further investigate these aspects in diverse ART families, including single-, gay-, bisexual-, and trans*-parent families.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), the most common type of assisted reproductive technology (ART), might damage the sperm or embryo. The implications of male infertility and ICSI for the neurodevelopmental health of offspring remain unknown. OBJECTIVE To analyze the risks of neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring of couples with male or female infertility with or without ICSI use. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS This cohort study was conducted in Taiwan and used information collected from the national population registry data set, national birth data set, and national ART data set for all live singleton births from January 1, 2008, to December 31, 2016. The follow-up period started from the date of birth until the diagnosis of a disorder or December 31, 2018, whichever occurred first. Data were analyzed from July 1, 2021, to August 1, 2022. EXPOSURES Male or female infertility with or without ICSI. MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES The outcome was the incidence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and developmental delay in offspring with ART conception. Taiwan's national population registry data set was used to identify ASD, ADHD, and developmental delay diagnosed in outpatient clinic and hospitalization records. RESULTS The study included 1 575 971 singleton births (mean [SD] age, 5.87 [2.60] years; 819 389 boys [52.0%]), of whom 1 568 257 (99.5%) had natural conception, 2111 (0.1%) had ART conception with male infertility, and 5603 (0.4%) had ART conception with female infertility. The risks of ASD (adjusted hazard ratio, 2.49; 95% CI, 1.61-3.84; P < .001) and developmental delay (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.54-2.39; P < .001) in offspring with ART conception and ICSI use were significantly higher than those in offspring with natural conception. The same results were found in offspring of couples with either male or female infertility and ICSI intervention. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE Results of this study suggest that male infertility was not associated with an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring. In both male and female infertility groups, ICSI had unfavorable implications for the neurodevelopmental health of offspring in terms of increased risks of ASD and developmental delay.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children born after assisted reproductive technologies (ART) differ in birthweight from those naturally conceived. It has been hypothesized that this might be explained by epigenetic mechanisms. We examined whether cord blood DNA methylation mediated the birthweight difference between 890 newborns conceived by ART (764 by fresh embryo transfer and 126 frozen thawed embryo transfer) and 983 naturally conceived newborns from the Norwegian Mother, Father, and Child Cohort Study (MoBa). DNA methylation was measured by the Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC array. We conducted mediation analyses to assess whether differentially methylated CpGs mediated the differences in birthweight observed between: (1) fresh embryo transfer and natural conception and (2) frozen and fresh embryo transfer. RESULTS We observed a difference in birthweight between fresh embryo transfer and naturally conceived offspring of - 120 g. 44% (95% confidence interval [CI] 26% to 81%) of this difference in birthweight between fresh embryo transfer and naturally conceived offspring was explained by differences in methylation levels at four CpGs near LOXL1, CDH20, and DRC1. DNA methylation differences at two CpGs near PTGS1 and RASGRP4 jointly mediated 22% (95% CI 8.1% to 50.3%) of the birthweight differences between fresh and frozen embryo transfer. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that DNA methylation is an important mechanism in explaining birthweight differences according to the mode of conception. Further research should examine how gene regulation at these loci influences fetal growth.

Abstract
Subfertility and infertility are common problems among couples of reproductive age, and they increasingly require the use of assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Understandably, doubts about the safety of such methods are increasing among future parents. The purpose of this review is to analyse the real impact of ART, such as in vitro fertilisation (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), on the health of the unborn baby; in particular, this work is focussed on the problems related to the neuro-psycho-motor area. Twenty-four studies were reviewed and outcomes investigated were: risk of the onset of neurodevelopmental diseases, worsening of school cognitive performance and risk of developing infantile cerebral palsy (CP) or neurological sequelae. For the first two outcomes, we did not find a correlation with ART; nevertheless, the results of the included studies about risk of CP are discordant and influenced by various confounding factors, such as pre-term birth and multiple pregnancies.IMPACT STATEMENTWhat is already known on this subject? Assisted reproductive techniques (ART) are the main answer for achieving pregnancy in infertile couples. However, a wide number of studies have tried to focus on possible different outcomes in terms of maternal and foetal/new-born health. Regarding this scenario, a peculiar importance is given to diseases affecting the neuro-psycho-motor area of the new-born. Since this group of detrimental pathologies could heavily affect the new-born's quality of life and require costly social facilities, different studies have tried to focus on possible outcomes after ART.What do the results of this study add? This manuscript provides a review of the literature regarding ART procedures and neuro-psycho-motor implication. A review is strongly required due to the importance of collecting evidence from studies with different methodologies.What are the implications of these findings for clinical practice and/or further research? This manuscript provides evidence about the need for wider and more congruent studies regarding neurodevelopment disorders in new-borns after ART procedures. Data are prone to suggest a slight correlation, but several confounding factors can heavily hamper the possibility to draw a firm conclusion about the topic.

Abstract
In recent years, the growing use of ART (assisted reproductive techniques) has led to a progressive improvement of protocols; embryo freezing is certainly one of the most important innovations. This technique is selectively offered as a tailored approach to reduce the incidence of multiple pregnancies and, most importantly, to lower the risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome when used in conjunction with an ovulation-triggering GnRH antagonist. The increase in transfer cycles with frozen embryos made it possible to study the effects of the technique in children thus conceived. Particularly noteworthy is the increase in macrosomal and LGA (large for gestational age) newborns, in addition to a decrease in SGA (small for gestational age) and LBW (low birth weight) newborns. The authors aimed to outline a broad-ranging narrative review by summarizing and elaborating on the most important evidence regarding the neonatal outcome of children born from frozen embryos and provide information on the medium and long-term follow- up of these children. However, given the relatively recent large-scale implementation of such techniques, further studies are needed to provide more conclusive evidence on outcomes and implications.

Abstract
Environmental exposures to endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) such as the organochlorines have been linked with various diseases including neurodevelopmental disorders. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a highly complex neurodevelopmental disorder that is considered strongly genetic in origin due to its high heritability. However, the rapidly rising prevalence of ASD suggests that environmental factors may also influence risk for ASD. In the present study, whole genome bisulfite sequencing was used to identify genome-wide differentially methylated regions (DMRs) in a total of 52 sperm samples from a cohort of men from the Faroe Islands (Denmark) who were equally divided into high and low exposure groups based on their serum levels of the long-lived organochlorine 1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethylene (DDE), a primary breakdown product of the now banned insecticide dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT). Aside from being considered a genetic isolate, inhabitants of the Faroe Islands have a native diet that potentially exposes them to a wide range of seafood neurotoxicants in the form of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The DMRs were mapped to the human genome using Bismark, a 3-letter aligner used for methyl-seq analyses. Gene ontology, functional, and pathway analyses of the DMR-associated genes showed significant enrichment for genes involved in neurological functions and neurodevelopmental processes frequently impacted by ASD. Notably, these genes also significantly overlap with autism risk genes as well as those previously identified in sperm from fathers of children with ASD in comparison to that of fathers of neurotypical children. These results collectively suggest a possible mechanism involving altered methylation of a significant number of neurologically relevant ASD risk genes for introducing epigenetic changes associated with environmental exposures into the sperm methylome. Such changes may provide the potential for transgenerational inheritance of ASD as well as other disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the association between assisted reproductive technology (ART) and offspring morbidity in the first decade of life. DESIGN Longitudinal cohort study. SETTING Provincial health registry in Quebec, Canada. PATIENT(S) A total of 797,654 singleton children born between 2008 and 2019, followed up to 2020. INTERVENTION(S) Retrospective, noninterventional study of any ART procedure vs. no ART. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Childhood morbidity, including hospitalization for infectious, allergic, malignant, and other diseases, assessed using adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association with ART. We controlled for unmeasured family-level confounders that were shared among siblings through stratified Cox regression. To do so, we restricted the analysis to 10,097 siblings with discordant exposure to ART and compared the risk of outcomes in exposed vs. unexposed siblings. RESULT(S) Compared with no ART, ART was associated with 1.23 times the risk of any hospitalization (95% CI 1.19-1.27), 1.25 times the risk of infectious disease hospitalization (95% CI 1.21-1.29), and 1.25 times the risk of allergy hospitalization (95% CI 1.14-1.38). When we used a sibling design to control for shared genetic and environmental confounders, ART was not associated with a greater risk of childhood hospitalization (HR 0.92, 95% CI 0.78-1.08). CONCLUSION(S) ART is associated with an elevated risk of hospitalization up to 11 years of age, but discordant sibling analysis suggests that the association may be due to genetic, environmental, or other shared familial confounders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed to examine the association between infertility treatment and neurodevelopment in children at 2 and 3.5 years of age. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS The study population consisted of mother-child pairs who participated in the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project Birth and Three-Generation Cohort Study in Miyagi and Iwate Prefectures, Japan. Pregnant women were recruited in obstetric clinics or hospitals and their children were followed up by the questionnaire. OUTCOME MEASURES The children's neurodevelopmental outcomes were assessed at 2 and 3.5 years of age using the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, third edition (ASQ-3), which consists of questions on five developmental domains. We performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis of the association between infertility treatment (including ovulation induction (OI), artificial insemination with husband's sperm (AIH) and assisted reproductive technology (ART)) and the clinical range of ASQ-3. RESULTS Of 9655 mother-child pairs, 273 (2.8%) and 487 (5.0%) were conceived through OI/AIH and ART, respectively. The odds of having developmental delays at 2 years of age were higher in children conceived through OI/AIH (OR, 1.36; 95% CI 1.00 to 1.85) and ART (OR, 1.36; 95% CI 1.07 to 1.72) than in those conceived naturally. Additionally, OI/AIH and ART were significantly associated with communication (OR, 1.93; 95% CI 1.25 to 2.98) and gross motor (OR, 1.50; 95% CI 1.08 to 2.09) delays, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in the odds of having developmental delays at 3.5 years of age in children conceived through OI/AIH (OR, 1.13; 95% CI 0.79 to 1.61) and ART (OR, 1.03; 95% CI 0.78 to 1.37). CONCLUSION In this study, we found a significant association between infertility treatment and children's neurodevelopment at 2 years of age, whereas no statistically significant differences were found at 3.5 years of age.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The association between medically assisted reproduction and pregnancy planning on overall developmental outcomes of infants has been studied in relatively few studies. The availability of accurate tools for the early detection of developmental delays is a major issue. The purpose of this study is describing the average neurodevelopment of preterm infants and assessing the association between medically assisted reproduction, pregnancy planning and neurodevelopmental outcomes among Hungarian preterm infants.
Methods
Cross-sectional study of preterm infants with gestational age < 37 weeks (N = 171) who underwent developmental assessment using Bayley-III Screening Test (Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development Screening Test – Third Edition) in five developmental domains (cognitive, receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor) at 12 months of corrected age. We examined the developmental pattern of infants and the potential associations between medically assisted reproduction, pregnancy planning and Bayley-III Screening Test subscales. Information on the mode of conception and pregnancy planning was obtained through parental anamnesis.
Results
Concerning the risk for developmental delay, the language and motor subscales were the most affected. Examination of the mode of conception and developmental outcomes revealed higher neurodevelopmental skills in infants who were conceived through medically assisted reproduction. Significantly lower cognitive, receptive and expressive language skills were found to be associated with unplanned pregnancies. Multi-way analysis of variance was conducted in order to assess the impact of the mode of conception and pregnancy planning on subscales.
Conclusions
We cannot unambiguously conclude that MAR and pregnancy planning had a solely positive effect on the development of preterm infants at 12 months of corrected age, but our results are vital for the design and implementation of further research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are two increasing important problems among children. This study aims to explore the link between maternal polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and the risk of ASD and ADHD in the offspring. METHOD The MOOSE guidelines were followed in the conduct of this meta-analysis. A literature search was done in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science from inception until January 2021. The DerSimonian and Laird random-effects model was used to estimate the combined risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Sensitivity analysis was also used to investigate the effect of each study on the combined results. RESULTS Seven studies, with 1,358,696 participants, comprising 7,334 ADHD cases and 3,920 ASD cases, were included in this study. Children born to mothers with maternal PCOS had higher risks of developing ASD (RR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.26-1.69, I2 = 64%) and ADHD (RR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.35-1.41, I2 = 0%) when compared with children born to mothers without maternal PCOS. CONCLUSION This study showed that there might be a link between maternal PCOS and the risk of developing ASD and ADHD in the offspring. This important issue must be considered in PCOS women during and after pregnancy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aimed to determine the association between assisted reproductive technology (ART) and increased chances of having an autistic child. METHODS The Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases were systematically searched for studies published until December 2020 with the restricted English language. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) for cohort and case-control studies has been used for the evaluation of quality in individual studies. We evaluated the heterogeneity among the studies using I-squared. Publication bias was assessed using the funnel plot and Egger's and Begg's tests. We presented results using odds ratio (OR) and relative ratio (RR) estimates with its 95% confidence intervals (CI) using a randomeffects model. RESULTS In total, 18 articles were included in the present study. The overall findings of the present meta-analysis show that the use of ART didn't associate with the risk of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) among offspring based on OR and RR (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 0.88-1.21) and (RR = 1 .26, 95% CI: 0.96- 1 .55), respectively. We showed a significant association between ART and the risk of ASD in Asia than in the other regions without heterogeneity. CONCLUSION Our result showed that the risk of ASD was not increased in children born from ART. Possible interaction between ART and other regions with increased risk of ASD is important to point and future studies of this topic were recommended.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have assessed the association between cerebral palsy (CP) and assisted reproductive technology (ART), but the results remain controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the risk of CP after ART compared with natural conceptions and to examine CP risk separately in ART singletons, multiples and preterm births. METHODS Web-based databases (PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) were searched until November 22, 2020. Studies which compare CP rates after ART with natural conceptions were included. The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to assess the quality of the included studies. Effect estimates were extracted and combined using the fixed-effects or random-effects model depending on the heterogeneity test. RESULTS There were nine studies included in the meta-analysis. The included studies were of moderate or high quality. A significantly higher risk of CP [odds ratio (OR) = 2.17, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.72-2.74] was found in ART children (n = 89,214) compared with naturally conceived children (n = 4,160,745). The significantly higher risk decreased when data were restricted to singletons (OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.16-1.59) and disappeared when data were restricted to multiples (OR = 1.05, 95% CI 0.86-1.29) or preterm births (OR = 1.53, 95% CI 0.66-3.56). Subgroup and sensitivity analyses indicated that the overall results were robust. CONCLUSIONS The risk of CP is increased more than two-fold after ART. This increased risk is largely due to increased rates of multiple birth and preterm delivery in ART children.

Abstract
Children conceived through intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) have been reported to have a higher risk of many abnormalities and disorders, including autism and intellectual disability, which may be due to bypassing of the natural sperm selection process during ICSI. Zona pellucida (ZP)-bound spermatozoa (ZPBS) have normal morphology and nuclear DNA. Using these spermatozoa for ICSI results in better outcomes compared with conventional ICSI. However, differences besides morphology that exist between sperm selected by ZP and by an embryologist and whether these differences affect the risk of autism in offspring after ICSI are unclear. To explore these questions, we compared genome-wide DNA methylation profiles between ZPBS and manually selected spermatozoa (MSS)using single-cell bisulfite sequencing. Global DNA methylation levels were significantly lower in ZPBS than in MSS. Using gene ontology (GO) analysis, genes overlapping differentially methylated regions (DMRs) were enriched in biological processes involving neurogenesis. Furthermore, we found that 47.8% of autism candidate genes were associated with DMRs, compared with 37.1% of matched background genes (P<0.001). This was mainly because of the high proportion of autism candidate genes with bivalent chromatin structure. In conclusion, bivalent chromatin structure results in large differences in the methylation of autism genes between MSS and ZPBS. ICSI using MSS, which increases the risk of methylation mutations compared with ZPBS, may lead to a higher risk of autism in offspring.
