Abstract
BACKGROUND The comprehensive impact of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection on reproductive tract inflammation and adverse pregnancy outcomes among women of reproductive age has not been fully investigated. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted among women presenting to the gynecological departments of specialized women's hospitals in Ningbo, China, between 2016 and 2020. A total of 6506 women, with an average age of 28.7 years, who had undergone HPV testing and genotyping were included in the study. RESULTS Overall, the most prevalent HPV types were HPV 52 (25.8%), HPV 16 (17.9%), and HPV 58 (7.7%). Vaginitis and cervicitis were significantly more prevalent in women with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) compared to those with low-risk HPV(LR-HPV) (9.0% vs. 4.7%; 10.8% vs.7.1%; P < 0.05). Moreover, the incidence of cervicitis in patients with persistent HPV infection for more than two years was significantly higher than in those with HPV infection for one year (21.8% vs. 11.8%; P < 0.05). Pregnant women with HR-HPV infection had a significantly increased risk of miscarriage (9.7% vs. 6.1%; P < 0.05). Our cross-sectional analysis of potential risk factors for HPV infection during pregnancy revealed that higher pregnancy glucose levels (prevalence, 4.23%; OR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.10-1.20; P < 0.05) significantly increased the risk of HPV infection. Women with persistent HR-HPV infection had a significantly higher risk of reproductive tract inflammation and adverse pregnancy outcomes. The analysis revealed significant associations between HPV infection and several pregnancy outcomes, including an increased risk of miscarriage, reduced live birth rate, and a higher cesarean section rate. CONCLUSIONS This highlights the need to monitor gestational glucose levels, reproductive tract inflammation, and HPV infection to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes among pregnant women.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the composition of the dominant groups of vaginal microorganisms in healthy pregnant women and pregnant women infected with HPV using a microbiological culture-based method. The MALDI TOF MS method and 16S rRNA gene fragment sequencing were used to identify microorganisms isolated from healthy pregnant women (n=32) and pregnant women infected with HPV (n=24). It was found that vaginal secretion samples from both groups contained bacteria of 4 phyla: Bacillota, Actinomycetota, Pseudomonadota, Bacteroidota, and Ascomycota fungi. The most common microbial community in healthy pregnant women being CST I (p=0.0007), and CST V in pregnant women infected with HPV (p=0.0001). At the genus level, a total of 25 taxa were found in all samples, with Lactobacillus being the dominant genus overall. Escherichia (p<0.0001) and Prevotella (p=0.0001) concentrations were higher in HPV infected patients. When calculating the Pearson correlation coefficient for the phyla, it was found that Bacillota correlated negatively with HPV genotypes 16 and 51 (p≤0.05), but positively with HPV genotype 59 (p≤0.05), just like Actinomycetota (p≤0.05). Abstract
Introduction Persistent human papillomavirus infection is an important factor in the development of cervical cancer, which is usually a long process evolving from the development of squamous intraepithelial lesions (SIL), also referred to as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Local treatment of advanced squamous intraepithelial lesions, also regarded as High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion, may be effective in preventing cancer. Objective To promptly identify high-risk patients with a tendency to recurrence. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 300 patients with high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions of the cervix admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from 2019 to 2020 to investigate the relationship between recurrence of cervical lesions and postoperative regression of HPV infection, as well as other related risk factors. Results We found that the HPV-negative rates were 81.81, 85.71, and 90.91% at 6, 12, and 24 months, respectively, and the average lesion recurrence rate was 8.16%, with a median time to recurrence of 14 months in patients undergoing CKC for HSIL. The risk of cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions was highest in patients with HPV16. Patients over 61 years of age had the lowest postoperative HPV-negative rate. The conversion rate was significantly lower in patients with multiple HPV genotypes than in those with single HPV infection (p < 0.05). The probability of recurrence was higher in patients with the same HPV infection genotype before and after surgery than in patients with different infection genotypes before and after surgery (p < 0.05). Conclusion Combined with the literature review, we believe that patients aged ≥50 years, with ≥3 pregnancies and births, a history of smoking, and consistent genotypes of preoperative and postoperative HPV infection in cervical conization have more HPV re-infection or persistent infection, and that these factors may be high-risk factors for lesion recurrence. For patients with possible potential high-risk factors, we need to carry out individualized follow-up and focused management, take timely and effective management measures, optimize the treatment plan, reduce the recurrence rate, prevent HSIL and cervical cancer, improve the quality of patient's survival, and improve the prognosis.

Abstract
There is a need to increase the vaccine completion rates in women who have already received human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines. With vaccines requiring multiple doses, designing a vaccination control program and increasing the proportion of women who complete vaccination are critical and remain as huge challenges. Currently, there are no published reports on the differences in the background characteristics between postpartum women who are vaccinated or unvaccinated against HPV. This study aimed to determine the vaccination rates of the second and third doses of HPV vaccination utilizing an achievable HPV vaccination program in postpartum women. In this retrospective study, 243 postpartum women attending Chiayi Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between March and September 2014 were enrolled. These women were classified into two groups: one group received the HPV vaccine under a practical, controlled postpartum HPV vaccination program, and the other group did not. The rates for the second and third rounds of HPV vaccination in postpartum women were calculated. The differences in the background characteristics between the two groups were determined using the Student’s t test, chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test, and the multiple logistic models, as appropriate. Under the controlled postpartum HPV vaccination program, the completion rate for the three doses of postpartum HPV vaccination was 97.2%. Significant differences were observed according to maternal age, gender of the newborn, and postpartum Pap smear results between the two groups in our study. In conclusion, the controlled postpartum HPV vaccination program is a reasonable method for achieving an excellent completion rate for the three doses of postpartum HPV vaccination and may be a good model for any multiple-dose vaccination protocol.

Abstract
Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, which were introduced in many countries in the past decade, have shown promising results in decreasing HPV infection and related diseases, such as warts and precancerous lesions. In this review, we present the updated information about current HPV vaccines, focusing on vaccine coverage and efficacy. In addition, pan-gender vaccination and current clinical trials are also discussed. Currently, more efforts should be put into increasing the vaccine’s coverage, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Provision of education on HPV and vaccination is one of the most important methods to achieve this. Vaccines that target HPV types not included in current vaccines are the next stage in vaccine development. In the future, all HPV-related cancers, such as head and neck cancer, and anal cancer, should be tracked and evaluated, especially in countries that have introduced pan-gender vaccination programs. Therapeutic vaccines, in combination with other cancer treatments, should continue to be investigated.

Abstract
Objective Data on human papillomavirus (HPV) prevalence around pregnancy were inconsistent. We assessed HPV prevalence before and after pregnancy, HPV incidence after pregnancy, and risk factors for HPV infection. Method Data from 15 754 women in control arms of 5 AS04-HPV-16/18 vaccine efficacy trials were analyzed, including 3001 women with at least 1 pregnancy. Results of HPV deoxyribonucleic acid testing on cervical samples were available. We analyzed risk factors, including age, region, pregnancy and its outcomes, duration from pregnancy resolution to collection of first postresolution cervical sample, previous HPV infection, cigarette smoking, and number of sexual partners with Cox regression. Results Prevalence of high-risk oncogenic (hr)-HPV types was similar before and after pregnancy (20.8% vs 19.8%). Incidence of hr-HPV was 40.1 per 1000 person-years (95% confidence interval [CI], 23.4–64.2) at 0–3 months, 266.7 (95% CI, 217.4–323.7) at 3–6 months, and 95.7 (95% CI, 83.9–108.7) at >6 months after pregnancy. Risk factors associated with HPV infection after pregnancy are previous HPV infection, elective abortion, and younger age at pregnancy resolution. Conclusions Pregnancy could not be confirmed as a risk factor for HPV infection in this population despite an increased incidence detected 3–6 months after pregnancy resolution. Most women remained HPV negative after pregnancy. Abstract
BACKGROUND In this study, the association between high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection and the vaginal microbiome in pregnant women was evaluated in Chinese cohorts. METHODS The vaginal bacterial composition of four groups, 38 hrHPV-infected pregnant women (PHR, n = 38), pregnant women without HPV infection (PN, n = 48), nonpregnant women with hrHPV infection (NPHR, n = 19) and nonpregnant women without HPV infection (NPN, n = 30), was characterized by deep sequencing of barcoded 16S rRNA gene fragments (V3-4) using Illumina MiSeq. RESULTS The results revealed that both pregnancy and HPV infection can increase vaginal bacterial microbial richness and diversity, with the bacterial composition being most influenced by pregnancy. Lactobacillus was the most dominant genus among all samples. NPN samples were dominated by CST (community state type) III, mainly composed of Lactobacillus iners. Both pregnancy and hrHPV infection were accompanied by an increased proportion of CST I (dominated by Lactobacillus crispatus), as opposed to CST III. Bifidobacterium, Bacillus, Megasphaera, Sneathia, Prevotella, Gardnerella, Fastidiosipila and Dialister were found to be biomarkers for hrHPV-infected women, though different genera (Bifidobacterium, Megasphaera, Bacillus, Acidovorax, Oceanobacillus and Lactococcus) were associated with hrHPV-infected pregnant women. CONCLUSIONS This work uncovered a probable synergistic effect of hrHPV infection and pregnancy on the vaginal microbial composition. HPV infection in pregnant women was associated with a more complex and diverse microbial environment.

Abstract
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE Incarcerated women are more vulnerable to developing cervical cancer than women in general; therefore, screening and intervention programs must be included in their healthcare provision. We therefore aimed to investigate the state of cervical cancer screening for imprisoned women in Mato Grosso do Sul, and to analyze the interventions geared toward the control of cervical cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a cross-sectional study with analysis of primary and secondary data. Interviews were held with 510 women in seven prisons in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The data for 352 medical records were analyzed statistically with the significance level set at 5%. Associations were assessed by the chi-squared test, adjusted by the Bonferroni correction. RESULTS Most female prisoners had limited education, used tobacco, and had key risk factors for the development of cervical cancer. Half of the women interviewed (n = 255) stated that they had received a Papanicolaou (Pap) test in prison, but 134 (52.5%) of these did not know the result. Of those who had not received a Pap test, 149 (58.4%) stated that this was because of a lack of opportunity. There was no information regarding the provision of Pap tests or subsequent treatment in the medical records of 211 (59.9%) women. No protocols were in place for the provision of Pap tests in prison. There were statistical differences between prisons in terms of test frequency, the information provided to women, and how information was recorded in medical records. CONCLUSION The screening of cervical cancer in prisons is neither systematic nor regular, and the results are not communicated to women in a significant number of cases. It is necessary to organize health services within the prison environment, ensuring that tests are done and that there is investigation for human papillomavirus. This could increase the diagnosis of cervical cancer at less advanced stages of the disease.

Abstract
In the natural history of HPV infections, the HPV virions can induce two different pathways, namely the infec- tious virion producing pathway and the clonal transforming pathway. An overview is given of the burden that is associated with HPV infections that can both lead to cervical cancer and/or temporal subfertility. That HPV infections cause serious global health burden due to HPV-associated cancers is common knowledge, but that it is also responsible for a substantial part of idiopathic subfertility is greatly underestimated. The bulk of the detected HPV DNA whether in men or women is however infectious from origin. Because the dissociation between HPV viruses and HPV virions or infection and disease remains difficult for clinicians as well as for HPV detection, we propose a review of the different effects caused by the two different HPV virion induced pathways, and highlight the mechanisms that are responsible for causing transient subfertility and cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJETIVE To analyze the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and the possible epidemiological association with conditions of clinical relevance in women. MATERIAL AND METHODS A cross-sectional study from Mexico City was conducted from January 2012 to December 2014. HPV molecular detection was performed on cervical samples. Data were analyzed with appropriated statistic tests. RESULTS A total of 1,604 females (median 47, interquartile range 38-54) were analyzed. Global prevalence of infection for any HPV is 9.91% (95% CI 8.6-11.3). An association between infection with 16-HPV and number of abortions (NA) (OR=1.427; 95% CI 1.091-1.866), by univariate regression model (UVRM) was estimated. Moreover, menarche (OR=1.566; 95% CI 1.079-2.272), NA (OR=1.570; 95% CI 1.106-2.227) and number of pregnancies (NP) (OR=0.461; 95% CI 0.260-0.818) have a direct and inverse association with infection by genotype 18 of HPV, respectively. Also, infection with HR-HPV genotypes has an inverse association with NP (OR=0.791; 95% CI 0.707-0.884) by normal labor (OR=0.867; 95% CI 0.767-0.979) and NA (OR=0.715; 95% CI 0.534-0.959) (UVRM), and a direct association with number of sexual partners (OR=1.082; 95% CI 1.015-1.154). Onset of sexual activity has an inverse association with infection by genotype 16- (UVRM: OR=0.814; 95% CI 0.715-0.926; multinomial regression model (MNRM): OR=0.803; 95% CI 0.702-0.918) and HR-HPV (UVRM: OR=0.933; 95% CI 0.889-0.980, and MNRM: OR=0.912; 95% CI 0.867-0.959), all P values were lower than .03. CONCLUSIONS Prevalence of HPV cervical infection is different according to age and it is associated with several medical conditions of clinical relevance in women.
