Abstract
Objective Evaluate the differences in the dengue case fatality rate among the different subregions of the Americas in the period 2014-2023 and explore their relationship with the human development index (HDI) in each subregion. Methods Longitudinal ecological study based on open-access data from each country, grouped into the corresponding subregions to calculate the different indicators. In addition, a linear regression was performed between the mean case fatality rate in each region and the weighted regional HDI. Results There are large differences in dengue lethality by subregion and considerable variability by year. These differences in lethality are not directly correlated with the incidence recorded in each region. The regional HDI shows a close relationship with lethality: a higher HDI is generally associated with a lower case fatality rate. Conclusions The observed differences in lethality and their relationship with subregional development levels indicate that a broad and multifactorial perspective should be taken when designing a dengue control strategy.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to analyze and compare the organization and care offered by Primary Health Care (PHC) to people with suspected and/or diagnosed COVID-19 in Brazilian municipalities, considering the Human Development Index (HDI). Methods This is an analytical cross-sectional study carried out with managers of PHC services in Brazilian municipalities. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire via Google Forms between April and September 2022 and were analyzed using prevalence ratios, using a Poisson regression model with a random effect and a 5% significance level. Results The results indicated that municipalities with a low HDI were the most adherent to measures to reorganize PHC services during the health emergency phase of the pandemic when compared to municipalities with a medium, high, or very high HDI. Conclusion This may be related to the better organization and structure of this level of care in the municipalities analyzed, pointing to the need for management that considers the population's living conditions when dealing with public health emergencies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purposes of this study were to assess the association between exposure to particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) and adolescent obesity and to identify and visualize the world areas where the problems of adolescent obesity and air pollution by fine PM are more severe. METHODS This is an ecological study, based on publicly available data from a World Health Organization site. RESULTS For each increase in air pollution there was an increase in the probability of being in the higher prevalence obesity group (OR = 1.18 (95% CI, 1.06-1.31). High prevalence rates for both adolescent obesity and air pollution by PM 2.5 were identified in several countries, including Venezuela, Algeria, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Oceania islands. CONCLUSIONS Efforts by local authorities and world organizations should be focused on the countries with the highest prevalence rates for both conditions.

Abstract
Background The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) released the latest estimates of the global burden of cancer. We present a comparison of cancer profiles between 2020 and 2022, leveraging data from the Global Cancer Statistics (GLOBOCAN). Methods Cancer incidence and mortality data were sourced from two different years, 2020 and 2022, in the GLOBOCAN database. We tracked changes in age-standardized incidence and mortality rates, as well as estimated numbers of new cancer cases and deaths of the 15 most common cancer types globally and in China between 2020 and 2022. Additionally, we conducted comparisons to assess alterations in the cancer burden and variations in mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) across different regions and countries for both 2020 and 2022. Results Lung cancer remained the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The new cases of thyroid cancer witnessed a sharp increase in 2022. Conversely, the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths from stomach and esophageal cancer decreased significantly in 2022. The geographic distribution of cancer incidence and mortality across six continents in 2022 largely mirrored that of 2020. Higher Human Development Index (HDI) levels in countries corresponded with elevated rates of cancer incidence and mortality, consistent with the previous year. Among 185 countries or territories, China's age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) ranked 64th and its age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) ranked 68th, aligning with global averages. Lung cancer continued to impose the greatest burden of incidence and mortality. Stomach, breast, and esophageal cancers showed declines in both case counts and ASIR. Noteworthy reductions in both ASMR and absolute mortality numbers were observed in liver, stomach, and esophageal cancers. The global MIR decreased from 0.516 in 2020 to 0.488 in 2022. MIR trends indicated an upward trajectory with decreasing HDI levels in both 2022 and 2020. While Canada, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom demonstrated increasing MIRs, China exhibited the most significant decrease, followed by Russia and the United States. Conclusions The global landscape of cancer incidence and mortality in 2022 reflects ongoing trends observed in 2020. Cancer burdens vary notably across countries with differing socioeconomic statuses. Decreases in stomach, liver, and esophageal cancer cases and deaths signify progress in cancer control efforts. The decrease in the global MIRs highlights potential improvements in cancer management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this work was to study mortality increase in Spain during the first and second academic semesters of 2020, coinciding with the first 2 waves of the Covid-19 pandemic; by sex, age, and education. METHODS An observational study was carried out, using linked populations and deaths' data from 2017 to 2020. The mortality rates from all causes and leading causes other than Covid-19 during each semester of 2020, compared to the 2017-2019 averages for the same semester, was also estimated. Mortality rate ratios (MRR) and differences were used for comparison. RESULTS All-cause mortality rates increased in 2020 compared to pre-covid, except among working-age, (25-64 years) highly-educated women. Such increases were larger in lower-educated people between the working age range, in both 2020 semesters, but not at other ages. In the elderly, the MMR in the first semester in women and men were respectively, 1.14, and 1.25 among lower-educated people, and 1.28 and 1.23 among highly-educated people. In the second semester, the MMR were 1.12 in both sexes among lower-educated people and 1.13 in women and 1.16 in men among highly-educated people. CONCLUSION Lower-educated people within working age and highly-educated people at older ages showed the greatest increase in all-cause mortality in 2020, compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Approximately one third of individuals worldwide have not received a COVID-19 vaccine. Although studies have investigated risk factors linked to severe COVID-19 among unvaccinated people with rheumatic diseases (RDs), we know less about whether these factors changed as the pandemic progressed. We aimed to identify risk factors associated with severe COVID-19 in unvaccinated individuals in different pandemic epochs corresponding to major variants of concern. METHODS Patients with RDs and COVID-19 were entered into the COVID-19 Global Rheumatology Alliance Registry between March 2020 and June 2022. An ordinal logistic regression model (not hospitalized, hospitalized, and death) was used with date of COVID-19 diagnosis, age, sex, race and/or ethnicity, comorbidities, RD activity, medications, and the human development index (HDI) as covariates. The main analysis included all unvaccinated patients across COVID-19 pandemic epochs; subanalyses stratified patients according to RD types. RESULTS Among 19,256 unvaccinated people with RDs and COVID-19, those who were older, male, had more comorbidities, used glucocorticoids, had higher disease activity, or lived in lower HDI regions had worse outcomes across epochs. For those with rheumatoid arthritis, sulfasalazine and B-cell-depleting therapy were associated with worse outcomes, and tumor necrosis factor inhibitors were associated with improved outcomes. In those with connective tissue disease or vasculitis, B-cell-depleting therapy was associated with worse outcomes. CONCLUSION Risk factors for severe COVID-19 outcomes were similar throughout pandemic epochs in unvaccinated people with RDs. Ongoing efforts, including vaccination, are needed to reduce COVID-19 severity in this population, particularly in those with medical and social vulnerabilities identified in this study.

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the innovation index, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), high technology exports, and human development (HDI) in the world's leading 30 high-tech innovative countries. Using grey relational analysis models, the association between COVID-19 and other economic development indices was investigated. The model selects the country least affected by the pandemic from the top 30 innovative countries through a conservative (maximin) method based on grey association values. Data was collected from World Bank databases and analyzed to compare pre- and post-COVID-19 periods (2019, 2020). The outcomes of this study provide essential recommendations for industries and decision-makers with suitable action plans to preserve economic systems from further harm caused by the global COVID-19 outbreak. The ultimate goal is to boost the innovation index, GDP, high-tech exports, and HDI of high-tech economies and pave the way for a sustainable economy. To the author's knowledge, this is the first study to develop a multidimensional framework to assess COVID-19's impact on the sustainable economy of top 30 high-tech innovative countries, and to conduct a comparative analysis to identify the strong and weak effects of COVID-19 on sustainable economic growth.

Abstract
Introduction Coronavirus is threatening the global public health as a new and widespread crisis. The
researchers must keep in mind that one of the most vulnerable groups to COVID-19 are the
people with underlying diseases, especially diabetes. Objective This ecological study aimed to investigate the correlation between diabetes and the
epidemiological indices of COVID-19. Methods This ecological study included 144 countries. Their available data consists of the
cumulative incidence rate of cases, cumulative incidence rate of death, recovery rate,
case fatality rate, and performed tests of COVID-19, and diabetes. To collect the
variables, a data set was provided which included the information of 144 countries based
on diabetes and COVID-19 indices. Spearman coefficients were used for assess correlation
between diabetes and COVID-19 indices. Also, Scatter plots of diabetes for the studied
countries were drawn based on cumulative incidence rate of cases, cumulative incidence
rate of death, tests, recovery rate, and case fatality rate of COVID-19. Results The results of this ecological study showed in total countries, there was a weak
positive correlation between diabetes and cumulative incidence rate of cases and also
cumulative incidence rate of death. Correlation between diabetes with test of COVID-19
was very weak. Scatter plots showed a weak liner correlation between diabetes and
cumulative incidence rate of cases, cumulative incidence rate of death and test of
COVID-19. Conclusions In this study, there was a weak positive correlation between diabetes and cumulative
incidence rate of cases, cumulative incidence rate of death, and performed test of
COVID-19. This disease is an enormous challenge for health policymakers; therefore, it
is necessary to develop strategies and practical guidelines specific to each region to
take the necessary care, especially for diabetic patients.
