Abstract
This study investigated the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of parents of infantile hemangioma (IH) patients in South China through a cross-sectional survey conducted from November 2023 to March 2024. A structured questionnaire was administered to 511 participants, with 63.01% being female. The mean scores reflected inadequate knowledge (5 out of 9), generally positive attitudes (45 out of 55), and relatively inactive practices (24 out of 40). Direct effect analysis indicated that the number of consultations (β = 0.464, P = 0.012) and the presence of congenital vascular anomalies or metabolic disorders (β = 0.085, P = 0.029) positively influenced parental knowledge. Knowledge significantly affected attitudes (β = 0.509, P = 0.011), while both attitudes (β = 0.436, P = 0.018) and congenital conditions (β = - 0.189, P = 0.007) impacted practices. Additionally, consultations and congenital conditions indirectly influenced attitudes (β = 0.236, P = 0.012) and practices (β = 0.222, P = 0.011). The findings highlight the need for targeted educational interventions to enhance parental understanding and engagement in managing IH effectively.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional impairment is the main consideration when it comes to choosing therapy for infantile hemangiomas (IH). However, since most hemangiomas are treated for cosmetic reasons, it is important to know the cosmetic outcome assessed by the parents. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the aesthetic outcomes of IH, considering the characteristics of the lesions and the treatments used. PATIENTS AND METHODS The Spanish Infantile Hemangioma Nationwide Prospective Cohort (2016-2022) recruited all consecutive patients diagnosed with IH in 12 Spanish hospitals. The children included had two photos of the IH lesion (at both baseline and at the end of the study). A panel of parents blindly assessed all available photos using a scale from 0 (worst cosmetic outcomes) to 10 (best cosmetic outcomes). The different scores - both before and after treatment - as well as the outcomes percent considered excellent (≥9) were described and compared. We analyzed the effect of receiving different therapies and performed causal model analyses estimating the mean treatment effect of parents' assessments. RESULTS The median follow-up was 3.1years. A total of 824 photos were evaluated. Baseline aesthetic impact was higher in the propranolol group vs the topical timolol and observation treatment groups (1.85 vs 3.14 vs 3.66 respectively; P<.001). After treatment, the aesthetic impact was similar between both treatment groups (7.59 vs 7.93 vs 7.90; P>.2). The causal model could only be applied to the comparison between topical timolol and observation, revealing no differences whatsoever. CONCLUSION This is the first prospective cohort to analyze the aesthetic outcome of IH. The final aesthetic results of the three therapies were similar, with nearly 40% of patients achieving excellent aesthetic outcomes.

Abstract
Malignant tumors of the head and neck are rare in children, but it is important to know these lesions and identify them early in order to have a good outcome for these patients. Benign lesions of the head and neck are much more frequent and have an excellent prognosis. For this reason, it is necessary to recognize the warning signs and symptoms and understand when to refer the patient to a reference center for the treatment of these pathologies. The clinical presentation of both benign and malignant lesions in children may be similar as usually, both categories have compressive effects. This confirms the fact that the clinical diagnosis is not sufficient and always requires instrumental investigations and biopsies. In this narrative review, we analyzed both malignant lesions such as lymphoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, thyroid tumors, salivary gland tumors, neuroblastoma, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and benign ones such as cystic dermoid teratoma, hemangioma, juvenile angiofibroma and fibrosis dysplasia. Indeed, we set out to discuss the most common lesions of this site by evaluating their characteristics to highlight the differentiation of malignant tumors from benign lesions and their correct clinical-therapeutic management. A literature search was carried out in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases to identify all narrative reviews addressing malignant and benign head and neck tumors of the pediatric age. In conclusion, the care of children affected by head and neck benign lesions and malignancy must be combined and multidisciplinary. It is essential to recognize the diseases early in order to differentiate and intervene as soon as possible for the correct clinical-therapeutic management.

Abstract
Background Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most prevalent benign vascular tumor in children, yet its pathogenesis remains incompletely understood. Research has established a strong association between SOX4 and tumor blood vessel formation. The objective of this study was to investigate the function and underlying mechanism of SOX4 in IH development with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets. Methods We identified the transcription factor SOX4 associated with IH through RNA-seq screening of IH microtumors and validated it in IH tissues. The effect of SOX4 on the biological behavior of CD31+ hemangioma-derived endothelial cells (HemECs) was investigated via in vitro cell experiments. In addition, RNA-seq analysis was performed on CD31+ HemECs with low expression levels of SOX4, and the target genes of SOX4 were identified. Finally, the effect of SOX4 on tumor angiogenesis was further elucidated through 3D microtumor and animal experiments. Results SOX4 is highly expressed in IH tissues and promotes the proliferation, migration, and angiogenesis of CD31+ HemECs. In addition, SOX4 binds to the endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (ESM1) promoter to promote the progression of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Finally, through IH 3D microtumor and animal experiments, SOX4 and ESM1 are shown to be tumorigenic genes that independently promote tumor progression. Conclusions SOX4 plays a crucial role in the progression of IH, and the SOX4/ESM1 axis may serve as a novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for IH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infants with infantile hemangioma (IH) have been effectively treated with propranolol or atenolol. Concerns were raised about the mental health of these children at school age, due to central nervous system effects of propranolol and visible nature of IH. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to compare the mental health at school age of children treated with propranolol to children treated with atenolol for IHs and their parents. METHODS This two-centered cross-sectional study included children aged ≥6 years and treated with either propranolol or atenolol for IH during infancy. Children's outcomes were performance-based affect recognition (Dutch version of the Developmental Neuropsychological Assessment-II [NEPSY-II-NL]), parent-reported emotional and behavioral functioning (Child Behavioral Checklist [CBCL]), and health-related quality of life (KIDSCREEN-27). Parents' outcome was parenting stress (Parenting Stress Questionnaire [OBVL]). RESULTS Data of 105 children (36 propranolol, 69 atenolol; 6.0-11.8 years) were analyzed. Mental health outcomes did not differ between both β-blocker groups. Although overall functioning was in line with norms, children presented specific problems concerning affect recognition, parent-reported attention, and social quality of life. Parents showed increased physical symptoms, depressive symptoms, and parent-child relationship problems. CONCLUSION No difference in mental health at school age was found between children treated with propranolol or atenolol for IH. Although few overall mental health problems were found, specific problems require follow-up. Follow-up of children should be directed toward affect recognition, attention, and social functioning in daily life. Problems reported by parents could be ameliorated by mental health support during and after their infant's β-blocker treatment.

Abstract
Introduction:Despite the fact that infantile haemangioma is one of the most common benign tumour of the child, the impact of this pathology on the quality of life of patients and their families has not aroused much interest in health services research. Several tools have been proposed to date to assess this, but there is no Romanian standardised instrument yet. Taking as a model the questionnaire developed and validated in English by Chamlin et al (2015), we translated, culturally adapted and piloted this instrument into Romanian. The questionnaire was administered during two years, between August 2019 and August 2021, to the parents of children with a diagnosis of infantile hemangioma who attended "M. S. Curie" Children's Emergency Hospital, Bucharest, Romania. Inclusion criteria were the diagnosis of infantile hemangioma and children under the age of 24 months. Other comorbidities which may have caused other health impairments were considered as exclusion criteria. Response rate was 100% for all items in the questionnaire. A total of 112 family respondents were included for analysis. Classic psychometric tests were used. Results:Based on the 29 standardized original items, the four scales have Cronbach-alpha values ranging from 0.489 (CSI), 0.609 (PSF), 0.689 (PEF) to 0.719 (CPS). The proposed final Romanian version includes 26 standardised items. The Cronbach-alpha values improve marginally: 0.63 (PSF), 0.67 (CSI), 0.72 (PEF) and 0.733 (0.78) (CPS). Conclusion:We propose the 21-item scale of the IH-QOL-RO as the Romanian version of the IH-QOL®. The instrument has been culturally adapted and is ready to use in paediatric clinics. We recommend the use of IH-QOL-RO in a longitudinal study design as a measure of health-related quality of life and to complete the classical set of psychometric tests with the 48-hour test-retest reliability.

Abstract
Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most prevalent benign vascular tumor in infants, with distinct disease stages and durations. Despite the fact that the majority of IHs can regress spontaneously, a small percentage can cause disfigurement or even be fatal. The mechanisms underlying the development of IH have not been fully elucidated. Establishing stable and reliable IH models provides a standardized experimental platform for elucidating its pathogenesis, thereby facilitating the development of new drugs and the identification of effective treatments. Common IH models include the cell suspension implantation model, the viral gene transfer model, the tissue block transplantation model, and the most recent three-dimensional (3D) microtumor model. This article summarizes the research progress and clinical utility of various IH models, as well as the benefits and drawbacks of each. Researchers should select distinct IH models based on their individual research objectives to achieve their anticipated experimental objectives, thereby increasing the clinical relevance of their findings.

Abstract
Hemangioma of infancy (HOI) is a benign vascular proliferation. Though resolution is the norm, potential complications make an accurate diagnosis and early management of importance. The Indian association of dermatologists, venereologists and leprologists (IADVL) special interest group (SIG) paediatric dermatology in association with IADVL academy did an extensive analysis of the literature on the clinical features, diagnosis, and management of HOI published between 2010 and 2021. Online meetings were conducted from February 2021 to March 2022 to reach a consensus on these recommendations which are made from an Indian perspective.

Abstract
Across countries in the world, China has the largest population of childhood cancer survivors. Research and care for the childhood cancer survivor population in China is fragmented. We searched studies published in English or Chinese language between January 1, 2000 and June 30, 2021, which examined various aspects of childhood cancer survivorship in China. The existing China-focused studies were largely based on a single institution, convenient samplings with relatively small sample sizes, restricted geographic areas, cross-sectional design, and focused on young survivors in their childhood or adolescence. These studies primarily focused on the physical late effects of cancer and its treatment, as well as the inferior psychological wellbeing among childhood cancer survivors, with few studies examining financial hardship, health promotion, and disease prevention, or healthcare delivery in survivorship. Our findings highlight the urgent need for research and evidence-based survivorship care to serve the childhood cancer survivor population in China.

Clinical Outcomes of Small Infantile Hemangiomas Treated With Pulsed Dye Laser. Dermatol Surg 2022; 48:833-837. Abstract
BACKGROUND Infantile hemangioma (IH) often causes cosmetic disfigurement. Early intervention with propranolol for large, high-risk lesions is recommended in the American Academy of Pediatrics' Clinical Practice Guideline. Conversely, strategies for the management of small, low-risk lesions have not been established; however, pulsed dye laser (PDL) is often used to treat these lesions. OBJECTIVE To investigate clinical outcomes of PDL in small IH lesions. PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifty-three cases with 58 small IHs which did not meet the criteria for high-risk lesions in the guideline and were treated only with PDL were retrospectively reviewed. The characteristics of IHs and residual skin changes after treatment were evaluated. RESULTS Forty-seven lesions (81.0%) were superficial hemangiomas, whereas 11 (19.0%) were combined-type. The median maximum diameter was 10.0 mm. Forty-five lesions (77.6%) exhibited various residual skin changes after PDL treatment, including anetoderma (53.5%), telangiectasia and erythema (43.1%), hyperpigmentation (34.5%), redundant skin (3.4%), and fibrofatty tissue (3.4%). Of these, the incidence of anetoderma and fibrofatty tissue were significantly higher in the combined group than in the superficial group (p = .036 and .033, respectively). CONCLUSION Even small lesions, especially combined-type, often result in cosmetic problems after PDL treatment.

Abstract
The Kasabach-Merritt phenomenon (KMP) in kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is characterized by life-threatening thrombocytopenia and consumptive coagulopathy. This study compared the efficacy and safety of sirolimus plus prednisolone vs sirolimus monotherapy as treatment strategies for KHE with KMP in the largest cohort to date. Participants were randomized to receive either sirolimus in combination with a short course of prednisolone or sirolimus monotherapy for at least 12 months. The primary outcome was defined as achievement of a durable platelet response (platelet count >100 × 109/L) at week 4. Participants completed efficacy assessments 2 years after the initial treatment. At week 4, a durable platelet response was achieved by 35 of 37 patients given sirolimus and prednisolone compared with 24 of 36 patients given sirolimus monotherapy (difference 27.9%; 95% confidence interval, 10.0-44.7). Compared with the sirolimus monotherapy group, the combination treatment group showed improvements in terms of measures of durable platelet responses at all points during the initial 3-week treatment period, median platelet counts during weeks 1 to 4, increased numbers of patients achieving fibrinogen stabilization at week 4, and objective lesion responses at month 12. Patients receiving combination therapy had fewer blood transfusions and a lower total incidence of disease sequelae than patients receiving sirolimus alone. The frequencies of total adverse events and grade 3-4 adverse events during treatment were similar in both groups. The responses seen in patients with KHE with KMP were profound and encouraging, suggesting that sirolimus plus prednisolone should be considered a valid treatment of KHE with KMP. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma (KHE) is a rare, aggressive and borderline vascular tumor mainly occurring in infants and children. The aim of this study was to determine the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in children with KHE. MEASURES A total of 91 children with KHE participated in this cross-sectional study. The HRQOL was assessed by the age-specific Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory Version 4.0 (PedsQL™ 4.0) Infant Scales, Family Information Form (FIF), Family Impact Module (FIM) and Generic Core Scales (GCS). For comparison, demographically matched healthy children were recruited as a control group. The main outcome measure of HRQOL was analyzed in the two groups. We determined related factors that influenced the HRQOL in children with KHE and their parents by using a stepwise multiple regression analysis. RESULTS The study found that the scores of each item in the family impact module (FIM) were lower than 75, which suggesting that KHE can make the parents of patients in a state of poor quality of life. The scores of physiological and psychosocial domains in all age groups of patients with KHE were lower than those of normal children (P < 0.01). Activity dysfunction is the factor influencing the physiological function score of all-age patients. KMP is the factor influencing the psychosocial function score of all-age patients. CONCLUSIONS The findings presented here suggest that patients with KHE have a poor HRQOL. KMP and activity dysfunction are risk factors for poor HRQOL in patients with KHE. However, lesion size, lesion location and education level of the mother and father were not related to the HRQOL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Beta-blockers have gradually become an attractive option for the treatment of infantile hemangiomas. Topical application is preferred to oral administration because of their potential systemic adverse effects. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of betaxolol in treating superficial infantile hemangioma. METHODS Seventy-four infants admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from 2018 to 2019 were observed and recorded. Variables such as color, size, tension, and thickness were recorded monthly and evaluated using visual analog scales. Multi-factor analysis of variance with repeated measurements and the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis H test were used to compare clinical effectiveness across the different groups. RESULTS After 6 months of treatment, 33.78% (25/74) showed excellent results, 55.41% (41/74) had good responses, 8.11% (6/74) had moderate responses, and 2.70% (2/74) had poor responses. Local discomfort and systemic complications were not found. There was no significant difference in gender and location of occurrence among groups (p > 0.05), and the effect of topical application of betaxolol was optimum in the children aged 0-3 months (p = 0.002). None of three age groups had statistically significant difference in heart rate and blood pressure after accepting treatment (1 month, p = 0.618; 4 months, p = 0.138; 6 months, p = 0.757). CONCLUSIONS Our study showed that topical administration of betaxolol was effective and well tolerated for superficial infantile hemangiomas, particularly in the early proliferative stage. However, its safety and efficacy need further research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most frequent benign tumor of infancy which impacts the psychological status of parents of affected children. Parental psychological status has a significant effect on the therapeutic effect and long-term prognosis of IH children. However, no standard questionnaires had been established previously to assess the psychological status of Chinese parents of children with IH. METHODS This study prospectively developed and validated a psychological status instrument for the assessment of parents of patients with IH and to identify clinical features with effects on the psychological status. A total of 350 parents completed the 35-item Psychologic Status Questionnaire for parents of Infantile Hemangiomas (IH-PSQ) and provided demographic information. The IH-PSQ was refined via item analysis, validity analysis (including exploratory factor analysis and criterion-related validity) and reliability analysis (including internal consistency reliability, split half reliability, and test-retest reliability). RESULTS The dimensionality of the items was evaluated using factor analysis, with results suggesting 5 factors: anxiety, depression, psychological imbalance, disease shame, and disease fear. The final instrument consists of 4 scales with a total of 23 items. Construct validity was demonstrated and IH-PSQ showed good internal coherence (Cronbach's α: 0.957), good split half reliability (0.971), and good test-retest reliability (correlation coefficient: 0.967). The correlation coefficient between the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) of children with IH was 0.874 and 0.754, respectively. Multiple linear regression analysis found that some characteristics will affect the score of IH-PSQ. CONCLUSIONS The IH-PSQ contains 5 dimensions and 23 entries, and with good reliability and validity, can objectively and effectively evaluate the psychological status of IH parents. Certain clinical characteristics of IH families, including parents' own factors (including their monthly income and cultural level) and disease-related factors of affected children (including the duration of illness, tumor size, with or without complications, single or multiple, whether being treated or not), were associated with a greater impact on IH-PSQ.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Complicated vascular anomalies (VAs) can be intractable and uncontrollable using conventional treatment and can result in lethal outcomes. We undertook a prospective, multicenter phase II trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sirolimus in pediatric patients with complicated VAs. METHODS Eligible patients were required to be aged 0 to 14 years and to have a complicated VA. The patients were treated with daily oral sirolimus for 12 months. The primary endpoint was the response, which was measured using sequential volumetric magnetic resonance imaging. The secondary endpoints were the disease severity score and quality of life. RESULTS Of 126 patients enrolled on an intention-to-treat basis, 98 (77.8%) had had an objective response to sirolimus, with a ≥20% decrease in lesion volume. Compared with those with arteriovenous malformations, the response rates were higher (>80%) for patients with common lymphatic malformations, venous malformations, kaposiform hemangioendothelioma, and combined malformations with a prominent venous and/or lymphatic component (P < .05). Improvements in the disease severity score and quality of life were obtained in 83.3% and 79.4% of patients, respectively. The most common adverse event was mucositis in 47 patients. More serious adverse events included reversible grade 4 pneumonitis in 3 patients and grade 4 upper respiratory infection in 1 patient. All these adverse events were considered at least possibly related to the treatment. CONCLUSIONS Sirolimus is an apparently effective option for pediatric patients with various types of complicated VAs. Close monitoring of possible adverse events is required. The results from the present trial are the basis for future prospective studies using new therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
Background/Objective The current study aimed to examine the relationship between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms and executive dysfunction in children and adolescents after psychological trauma. Method Participants were 13,438 of children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years exposed to the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. PTSD and dysexecutive symptoms were assessed using the UCLA PTSD Reaction Index for Children and the Self-Report Dysexecutive Questionnaire. Latent Profile Analysis (LPA) was conducted using Mplus version 7.4. Subgroup differences in trauma exposure and quality of life were calculated using ANCOVA. Results A 4-class parallel model was found to best describe latent PTSD symptom profiles and executive dysfunction. Individuals in higher symptom groups showed more trauma exposure and lower quality of life. Conclusions This LPA study shed light on the relationship between PTSD and executive dysfunction symptoms in children and adolescents. The correlation between PTSD and executive dysfunction was maintained after individual differences were taken into consideration. Our findings provide a new view on how PTSD relates to executive dysfunction and several suggestions for treating child and adolescent PTSD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Infantile haemangiomas (previously known as strawberry birthmarks) are soft, raised swellings of the skin that occur in 3% to 10% of infants. These benign vascular tumours are usually uncomplicated and tend to regress spontaneously. However, when haemangiomas occur in high-risk areas, such as near the eyes, throat, or nose, impairing their function, or when complications develop, intervention may be necessary. This is an update of a Cochrane Review first published in 2011. OBJECTIVES To assess the effects of interventions for the management of infantile haemangiomas in children. SEARCH METHODS We updated our searches of the following databases to February 2017: the Cochrane Skin Group Specialised Register, CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, AMED, LILACS, and CINAHL. We also searched five trials registries and checked the reference lists of included studies for further references to relevant trials. SELECTION CRITERIA Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) of all types of interventions, versus placebo, active monitoring, or other interventions, in any child with single or multiple infantile haemangiomas (IHs) located on the skin. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS We used standard methodological procedures expected by Cochrane. The primary outcome measures were clearance, a subjective measure of improvement, and adverse events. Secondary outcomes were other measures of resolution; proportion of parents or children who consider there is still a problem; aesthetic appearance; and requirement for surgical correction. We used GRADE to assess the quality of the evidence for each outcome; this is indicated in italics. MAIN RESULTS We included 28 RCTs, with a total of 1728 participants, assessing 12 different interventions, including lasers, beta blockers (e.g. propranolol, timolol maleate), radiation therapy, and steroids. Comparators included placebo, an active monitoring approach, sham radiation, and interventions given alone or in combination.Studies were conducted in a number of countries, including China, Egypt, France, and Australia. Participant age ranged from 12 weeks to 13.4 years. Most studies (23/28) included a majority of females and different types of IHs. Duration of follow-up ranged from 7 days to 72 months.We considered most of the trials as at low risk of random sequence generation, attrition bias, and selective reporting bias. Domains such as allocation concealment and blinding were not clearly reported in general. We downgraded evidence for issues related to risk of bias and imprecision.We report results for the three most important comparisons, which we chose on the basis of current use. Outcome measurement of these comparisons was at 24 weeks' follow-up.Oral propranolol versus placeboCompared with placebo, oral propranolol 3 mg/kg/day probably improves clinician-assessed clearance (risk ratio (RR) 16.61, 95% confidence interval (CI) 4.22 to 65.34; 1 study; 156 children; moderate-quality evidence) and probably leads to a clinician-assessed reduction in mean haemangioma volume of 45.9% (95% CI 11.60 to 80.20; 1 study; 40 children; moderate-quality evidence). We found no evidence of a difference in terms of short- or long-term serious adverse events (RR 1.05, 95% CI 0.33 to 3.39; 3 studies; 509 children; low-quality evidence), nor in terms of bronchospasm, hypoglycaemia, or serious cardiovascular adverse events. The results relating to clearance and resolution for this comparison were based on one industry-sponsored study.Topical timolol maleate versus placeboThe chance of reduction of redness, as a measure of clinician-assessed resolution, may be improved with topical timolol maleate 0.5% gel applied twice daily when compared with placebo (RR 8.11, 95% CI 1.09 to 60.09; 1 study; 41 children;low-quality evidence). Regarding short- or long-term serious cardiovascular events, we found no instances of bradycardia (slower than normal heart rate) or hypotension in either group (1 study; 41 children; low-quality evidence). No other safety data were assessed, and clearance was not measured.Oral propranolol versus topical timolol maleateWhen topical timolol maleate (0.5% eye drops applied twice daily) was compared with oral propranolol (via a tablet taken once per day, at a 1.0 mg/kg dose), there was no evidence of a difference in haemangioma size (as a measure of resolution) when measured by the proportion of patients with a clinician-assessed reduction of 50% or greater (RR 1.13, 95% CI 0.64 to 1.97; 1 study; 26 participants; low-quality evidence). Although there were more short- or long-term general adverse effects (such as severe diarrhoea, lethargy, and loss of appetite) in the oral propranolol group, there was no evidence of a difference between groups (RR 7.00, 95% CI 0.40 to 123.35; 1 study; 26 participants; very low-quality evidence). This comparison did not measure clearance.None of our key comparisons evaluated, at any follow-up, a subjective measure of improvement assessed by the parent or child; proportion of parents or children who consider there is still a problem; or physician-, child-, or parent-assessed aesthetic appearance. AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS We found there to be a limited evidence base for the treatment of infantile haemangiomas: a large number of interventions and outcomes have not been assessed in RCTs.Our key results indicate that in the management of IH in children, oral propranolol and topical timolol maleate are more beneficial than placebo in terms of clearance or other measures of resolution, or both, without an increase in harms. We found no evidence of a difference between oral propranolol and topical timolol maleate with regard to reducing haemangioma size, but we are uncertain if there is a difference in safety. Oral propranolol is currently the standard treatment for this condition, and our review has not found evidence to challenge this. However, these results are based on moderate- to very low-quality evidence.The included studies were limited by small sample sizes and risk of bias in some domains. Future trials should blind personnel and participants; describe trials thoroughly in publications; and recruit a sufficient number of children to deduce meaningful results. Future trials should assess patient-reported outcomes, as well as objective outcomes of benefit, and should report adverse events comprehensively. Propranolol and timolol maleate require further assessment in RCTs of all types of IH, including those considered problematic, as do other lesser-used interventions and new interventions. All treatments should be compared against propranolol and timolol maleate, as beta blockers are approved as standard care.
