Abstract
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer among the female population worldwide. It is a disease with a high incidence and geographic distribution that negatively impacts global public health and deleteriously affect the quality of life of cancer patients. Among the new approaches, cancer immunotherapy is the most promising trend in oncology by stimulating the host's own immune system to efficiently destroy cancer cells. Recent evidence has indicated that iron oxide nanoparticles can promote the reprograming of M2 into M1 macrophages with anti-tumor effects in the tumor microenvironment. Thus, the aim of the present work was to evaluate the ability of polyaniline-coated maghemite (Pani/γ-Fe2O3) nanoparticles to modulate human macrophages in 2D monolayers and 3D multicellular breast cancer models. It was observed that Pani/γ-Fe2O3 NPs re-educated IL-10-stimulated macrophages towards a pro-inflammatory profile, decreasing the proportion of CD163+ and increasing the CD86+ proportion in 2D models. NPs were successfully taken-up by macrophages presented in the 3D model and were also able to induce an increasing in their CD86+ proportion in triple MCTs model. Overall, our findings open new perspectives on the use of Pani/γ-Fe2O3 NPs as an immunomodulatory therapy for macrophage reprogramming towards an anti-tumor M1 phenotype, providing a new tool for breast cancer immunotherapies.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate covalent immobilization of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) on magnetic nanoparticles (Mag) encapsulated in calcium alginate beads (MABs) for color degradation, combining easy and fast removal of biocatalyst from the reaction mixture due to its magnetic properties and strong binding due to surface alginate functional groups. MABs obtained by extrusion techniques were analyzed by optical microscopy, FEG-SEM and characterized regarding mechanical properties, magnetization and HRP binding. HRP with initial concentration of 10 mg/gcarrier was successfully covalently bonded on MABs (diameter ~1 mm, magnetite/alginate ratio 1:4), with protein loading of 8.9 mg/gcarrier, immobilization yield 96.9% and activity 32.8 U/g. Immobilized HRP on MABs (HRP-MABs) was then used to catalyze degradation of two anthraquinonic dyes, Acid Blue 225 (AB225) and Acid Violet 109 (AV109), as models for wastewater pollutants. HRP-MABs decolorized 77.3% and 76.1% of AV109 and AB225, respectively after 15 min under optimal conditions (0.097 mM H2O2, 200 mg of HRP-MABs (8.9 mg/gcarrier), 0.08 and 0.1 g/mg beads/dye ratio for AV109 and AB225, respectively). Biocatalyst was used for 7 repeated cycles retaining 75% and 51% of initial activity for AB225 and AV109, respectively, showing potential for use in large scale applications for colored wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Magnetic/conducting polymeric hybrid core-shell typed zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4)/poly(N-methyl aniline) (PMA) particles were fabricated and adopted as electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) fluids, and their rheological properties were examined. Solvo-thermally synthesized ZnFe2O4 was coated with a conducting PMA through chemical oxidation polymerization. The size, shape, and chemical composition of the final core-shell shaped particles were scrutinized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy. The crystal faces of the particles before and after coating with PMA were analyzed by X-ray diffraction. The ZnFe2O4/PMA products were suspended in silicone oil to investigate the rheological response to electro- or magnetic stimuli using a rotating rheometer. The shear stresses were analyzed using the CCJ equation. The dynamic yield stress curve was suitable for the conductivity mechanism with a slope of 1.5. When magnetic fields of various intensities were applied, the flow curve was analyzed using the Hershel–Bulkley equation, and the yield stresses had a slope of 1.5. Optical microscopy further showed that the particles dispersed in insulating medium form chain structures under electric and magnetic fields. Via this core-shell fabrication process, not only spherical conducting particles were obtained but also their dual ER and MR responses were demonstrated for their wide potential applications.

Abstract
ZnFe2O4 particles initially synthesized through a simple solvothermal method were coated using polyindole (PIn) to prepare an actively controllable core-shell typed hybrid material under both electric and magnetic fields. An advantage of this process is not needing to add the stabilizers or surfactants commonly used for uniform coating when synthesizing core or shell-structured particles. The synthesized ZnFe2O4/PIn particles have a lower density than conventional magnetic particles and have suitable properties as electrorheological (ER) particles. The expected spherical shape of the particles was proven using both scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The chemical characterization was performed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. To analyze the rheological properties, a ZnFe2O4/PIn based suspension was prepared, and dynamic rheological measurements were performed for different electric field strengths using a rotary rheometer. Both dynamic and elastic yield stresses of the ER fluid had a slope of 1.5, corresponding to the conductivity model. Excellent ER effect was confirmed through rheological analysis, and the prepared ER fluid had a reversible and immediate response to repeated electric fields.

Abstract
The hydrophilic initiator potassium persulfate (KPS) was converted into a hydrophobic molecule by complexing with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) at both ends of the molecule (CTAPSu). Inverse emulsion polymerization thus proceeded inside micelles dispersed in the affluent toluene with CTAPSu as the initiator. Polyaniline (PANI) formed inside the micelles and entangled with Fe3O4 nanoparticles already esterified with oleic acid (OA). Iron composites consisted of OA-esterified Fe3O4 nanoparticles covered with PANI after de-emulsification. After calcination at 950 °C in an argon atmosphere, the resultant iron compound was a mixture of α-Fe (ferrite) and Fe3C (cementite), as determined by X-ray diffraction. Eventually, the calcined iron compounds (mixtures) demonstrated superparamagnetic properties with a high saturation magnetization (Ms) of 197 emu/g, which decayed to 160 emu/g after exposure to the atmosphere for four months.

Abstract
Oleic acid (OA)-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully covered with polyanilines (PANIs) via inverse suspension polymerization in accordance with SEM and TEM micrographs. The obtained nanoparticles were able to develop into a ferrite (α-Fe) and α″-Fe16N2 mixture with a superparamagnetic property and high saturated magnetization (SM) of 245 emu g−1 at 950 °C calcination under the protection of carbonization materials (calcined PANI) and other iron-compounds (α″-Fe16N2). The SM of the calcined iron-composites slightly decreases to 232 emu g−1 after staying in the open air for 3 months. The calcined mixture composite can be ground into homogeneous powders without the segregation of the iron and carbon phases in the mortar without significantly losing magnetic activities.

Core-Shell Structured Magnetite-Poly(diphenylamine) Microspheres and Their Tunable Dual Response under Magnetic and Electric Fields. Abstract
Core-shell type poly(diphenylamine)-coated magnetite (Fe3O4-PDPA) microspheres were designed and adopted as a novel actively tunable smart material which is responsive under both electric and magnetic fields. Their morphology, chemical structure, crystalline structure, and thermal properties were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscope, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and a thermal gravimetric analyzer. Their magnetic and dielectric properties were determined using vibrating-sample magnetometer and an LCR meter, respectively. They were dispersed in silicone oil and their electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) responses under the electric and magnetic fields, respectively, were examined. The formation of chain structure of Fe3O4-PDPA based E/MR fluid under the application of electric field or magnetic field was observed by an optical microscopy and the sedimentation stability was observed by a Turbiscan optical analyzer system. It was observed that the yield stress, ER efficiency, and leakage current density increased with an increase in the particle concentration, while the slope of the electric field-dependent yield stress decreased. Several models such as the Bingham model, Herschel-Bulkley model, and Cho-Choi-Jhon equations were used to describe the shear stress curves of the ER fluid; the curves fitted well. For the dielectric properties, the two types of ER fluids tested displayed the same relaxation time and distribution; however, the one with the higher concentration had a higher dielectric constant and polarizability. The Fe3O4-PDPA based MR fluid (10 vol %) exhibited typical MR properties. In addition, the Herschel-Bulkley model matched well with the shear stress curves under a magnetic field.

Abstract
Magnetic Soft Matter is a rapidly evolving discipline with fundamental and practical interest. This is due to the fact that its physical properties can be easily controlled through external magnetic fields. In this review paper, we revisit the most recent progress in the field (since 2010) emphasizing the rheological properties of these fascinating materials. New formulations and flow kinematics are discussed. Also, new members are integrated into the long-lived magnetorheology family and suggestions are provided for future development.

Abstract
Thermoresponsive poly(2-(N-alkylacrylamide) ethyl acetate)s with different N-alkyl groups, including poly(2-(N-methylacrylamide) ethyl acetate) (PNMAAEA), poly(2-(N-ethylacrylamide) ethyl acetate) (PNEAAEA), and poly(2-(N-propylacrylamide) ethyl acetate) (PNPAAEA), as well as poly(N-acetoxylethylacrylamide) (PNAEAA), were synthesized by solution RAFT polymerization. Unexpectedly, it was found that there are induction periods in the RAFT polymerization of these monomers, and the induction time correlates with the length of the N-alkyl groups in the monomers and follows the order of NAEAA < NMAAEA < NEAAEA < NPAAEA. The solubility of poly(2-(N-alkylacrylamide) ethyl acetate)s in water is also firmly dependent on the length of the N-alkyl groups. PNPAAEA including the largest N-propyl group is insoluble in water, whereas PNMAAEA and PNEAAEA are thermoresponsive in water and undergo the reversible soluble-to-insoluble transition at a critical solution temperature. The cloud point temperature (Tcp) of the thermoresponsive polymers is in the order of PNEAAEA < PNAEAA < PNMAAEA. The parameters affecting the Tcp of thermoresponsive polymers, e.g., degree of polymerization (DP), polymer concentration, salt, urea, and phenol, are investigated. Thermoresponsive PNMAAEA-b-PNEAAEA block copolymer and PNMAAEA-co-PNEAAEA random copolymers with different PNMAAEA and/or PNEAAEA fractions are synthesized, and their thermoresponse is checked.

Abstract
Conducting polymer-coated nanoparticles used in electrorheological (ER) and magnetorheological (MR) fluids are reviewed along with their fabrication methods, morphologies, thermal properties, sedimentation stabilities, dielectric properties, and ER and MR characteristics under applied electric or magnetic fields. After functionalization of the conducting polymers, the nanoparticles exhibited properties suitable for use as ER materials, and materials in which magnetic particles are used as a core could also be applied as MR materials. The conducting polymers covered in this study included polyaniline and its derivatives, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), poly(3-octylthiophene), polypyrrole, and poly(diphenylamine). The modified nanoparticles included polystyrene, poly(methyl methacrylate), silica, titanium dioxide, maghemite, magnetite, and nanoclay. This article reviews many core-shell structured conducting polymer-coated nanoparticles used in ER and MR fluids and is expected to contribute to the understanding and development of ER and MR materials.

Abstract
Electro-responsive poly(diphenylamine)(PDPA)/Fe3O4 composite particles were prepared by the synthesis of PDPA particles using a chemical oxidative polymerization technique followed by loading nano-sized Fe3O4 particles onto PDPA via a chemical co-precipitation process. The morphological image of the PDPA/Fe3O4 particles was characterized by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. The crystalline structure was scrutinized by X-ray diffraction. The rheological characteristics of the suspension composed of PDPA/Fe3O4 particles suspended in silicone oil were investigated by a rotation rheometer, demonstrating standard electrorheological (ER) characteristics with a dramatic increase in shear stress and dynamic moduli under the application of an electrical field strength. The shear stress curves under an electrical field could be described using the Bingham model and the yield stress showed a power-law relationship with the electric field strength with an exponent of 1.5, following the conduction model. Furthermore, the frequency-dependent dielectric behaviors of the PDPA/Fe3O4 ER suspension was tested using an inductance (L)-capacitance (C)-resistance (R) (LCR) meter. The dielectric properties were well described using the Cole-Cole equation and were consistent with the results of the ER experiments.

Abstract
In this study, a novel nanocomposite adsorbent based on magnetic polyaniline and strontium-titanium (MP-SrTiO3) nanoparticles was synthesized via a simple and low-cost polymerization method for efficiently removing of arsenic(III) ions from aqueous samples. The chemical structure, surface properties, and morphology of the prepared adsorbent were studied using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The main effective parameters on the removal efficiency, such as pH, adsorbent dosage, salt, and contact time, were studied and optimized. The validity of the proposed method was checked by adsorption isotherm and kinetics models. Consequently, the adsorption kinetics corresponded to the first order (R2 > 0.99), and the experimental equilibrium fitted the Langmuir model with a maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 67.11 mg/g (R2 > 0.99) for arsenic(III) ions. Corresponding to thermodynamic Vant's Hof model (ΔG° (kJ/mol), ΔH° (kJ/mol), and ΔS° (kJ/mol K) - 8.19, - 60.61, and - 0.17, respectively), the mechanism and adsorption nature were investigated with that suggested exothermic and physisorption mechanism.

Abstract
Functional core-shell-structured particles have attracted considerable attention recently. This paper reviews the synthetic methods and morphologies of various electro-stimuli responsive polyaniline (PANI)-coated core-shell-type microspheres, including PANI-coated Fe₃O₄, SiO₂, Fe₂O₃, TiO₂, poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(glycidyl methacrylate), and polystyrene along with their electrorheological (ER) characteristics when prepared by dispersing these particles in an insulating medium. In addition to the various rheological characteristics and their analysis, such as shear stress and yield stress of their ER fluids, this paper summarizes some of the mechanisms proposed for ER fluids to further understand the responses of ER fluids to an externally applied electric field.

Abstract
A facile chemoselective one-pot strategy for the deprotection of oxime has been developed using Fe0-polyaniline composite nanofiber (Fe0-PANI), as a catalyst. Nano material based Fe0-PANI catalyst has been synthesized via in-situ polymerization of ANI monomer and followed by reductive deposition of Fe0 onto PANI matrix. The catalyst was characterized by FE-SEM, HR-TEM, BET, XRD, ATR-FTIR, XPS and VSM techniques. The scope of the transformation was studied for aryl, alkyl and heteroarylketoxime with excellent chemoselectivity (>99%). Mechanistic investigations suggested the involvement of a cationic intermediate with Fe3+ active catalytic species. Substituent effect showed a linear free energy relationship. The activation energy (Ea) was calculated to be 17.46 kJ mol-1 for acetophenone oxime to acetophenone conversion. The recyclability of the catalyst demonstrated up to 10 cycles without any significant loss of efficiency. Based on the preliminary experiments a plausible mechanism has been proposed involving a carbocationic intermediate.

Abstract
Electrophotorheological (EPR) fluids, whose rheological activity is dually responsive to light and electric fields (E fields), is formulated by mixing photosensitive spiropyran-decorated silica (SP-sSiO2) nanoparticles with zwitterionic lecithin and mineral oil. A reversible photorheological (PR) activity of the EPR fluid is developed via the binding and releasing mechanism of lecithin and merocyanine (MC, a photoisomerized form of SP) under ultraviolet (UV) and visible (VIS) light applications. Moreover, the EPR fluid exhibits an 8-fold higher electrorheological (ER) performance compared to the SP-sSiO2 nanoparticle-based ER fluid (without lecithin) under an E field, which is attributed to the enhanced dielectric properties facilitated by the binding of the lecithin and SP molecules. Upon dual application of UV light and an E field, the EPR fluid exhibits high EPR performance (ca. 115.3 Pa) that far exceeds its separate PR (ca. 0.8 Pa) and ER (ca. 57.5 Pa) activities, because of the synergistic contributions of the PR and ER effects through rigid and fully connected fibril-like structures. Consequently, this study offers a strategy on formulation of dual-stimuli responsive smart fluid systems.
