Abstract
The present study describes a new species of Henneguya infecting the ornamental fish Caquetaia spectabilis from the Brazilian Amazon. Fish specimens were collected where the Tapajós and Amazon rivers merge, municipality of Santarém in the State of Pará, Brazil. Infections were intense, with several plasmodia spread on the opercula, fins and eye. Phylogenetic characterization and host-parasite relationship studies of the new Henneguya species used a combination of small subunit ribosomal DNA (ssrDNA) and morphological (photonic and transmission electron microscopy) analyses. Plasmodia were white round to ellipsoidal measuring up to 1.8 mm. The myxospores body measured 20.5 ± 3.9 (15-27) in length, 7.9 μm (6.2-10.8) in width, 6.7 μm (6.0-7.6) in thickness, 20.5 μm (14.4-32.3) in caudal appendages length, and 40.6 μm (34.2-54.6) in total length. The two polar capsules were elongated and equal in size, measuring 4.3 μm (3.3-5.4) in length and 2.1 μm (1.3-2.8) in width. Histological analysis revealed the parasite development in connective tissues of the fins, eyes and opercula. The skin of the fins and opercula presented detachment of the epidermis, however, no inflamatory infiltrate was observed. In the eye were observed inflammatory infiltratate in the epithelium and stroma of the cornea. Ultrastructure analysis showed the connective tissue capsule composed by an inner cellular layer with fibroblasts and outer layer where collagen fibers arranged transversely yet interspersed by layers of fibers arranged longitudinally. Numerous invaginations and extensive pinocytotic channels were observed in the plasmodial membrane. A layer of microfilament-like microfilament-like material was observed in the ectoplasm area and along to the internal surface of the plasmodial membrane. Generative cells and early stages of sporogenesis were seen more internally. The ssrDNA based phylogeny showed the South American species grouped in two lineages and the new species arises in a well-sustained subclade as sister branch of the clade composed by Henneguya spp. parasites of cichlids fish.

Abstract
Henneguya polarislonga n. sp. is described from the gills of Astyanax lacustris (Lütken, 1875) (Characiformes, Characidae) from streams of the Middle Paranapanema River, Upper Paraná River basin, in the São Paulo State, Brazil. The proposed new species is supported by a combination of morphological and molecular characterization (partial fragment of the SSU rDNA). Thirty specimens of A. lacustris were analyzed and myxospores were found in the gill lamellae of one specimen (Prevalence = 3.3%). Henneguya polarislonga n. sp. was morphometrically and genetically distinct from other Henneguya spp. previously described in Astyanax spp., mainly differing in the total length and caudal appendages length of the mature myxospores. Comparative analysis of the SSU rDNA sequences revealed that Seisactinomyxon-type actinospores previously reported parasitizing oligochaetes are developmental stages of the life cycle of Henneguya polarislonga n. sp. (similarity of 99.9%). This is the first time that an actinospore and a myxospore are correlated through molecular analysis in Brazil, contributing to the knowledge of the myxozoan ecology and biodiversity.

Abstract
This paper reviews current knowledge of the structure, genesis, cytochemistry and putative functions of the haplosporosomes of haplosporidians (Urosporidium, Haplosporidium, Bonamia, Minchinia) and paramyxids (Paramyxa, Paramyxoides, Marteilia, Marteilioides, Paramarteilia), and the sporoplasmosomes of myxozoans (Myxozoa - Malacosporea, Myxosporea). In all 3 groups, these bodies occur in plasmodial trophic stages, disappear at the onset of sporogony, and reappear in the spore. Some haplosporidian haplosporosomes lack the internal membrane regarded as characteristic of these bodies and that phylum. Haplosporidian haplosporogenesis is through the Golgi (spherulosome in the spore), either to form haplosporosomes at the trans-Golgi network, or for the Golgi to produce formative bodies from which membranous vesicles bud, thus acquiring the external membrane. The former method also forms sporoplasmosomes in malacosporeans, while the latter is the common method of haplosporogenesis in paramyxids. Sporoplasmogenesis in myxosporeans is largely unknown. The haplosporosomes of Haplosporidium nelsoni and sporoplasmosomes of malacosporeans are similar in arraying themselves beneath the plasmodial plasma membrane with their internal membranes pointing to the exterior, possibly to secrete their contents to lyse host cells or repel haemocytes. It is concluded that these bodies are probably multifunctional within and between groups, their internal membranes separating different functional compartments, and their origin may be from common ancestors in the Neoproterozoic.

Abstract
This study describes Henneguya sacacaensis n. sp. in specimens of the Osteichthyes Satanoperca jurupari (Heckel, 1840), collected in the Rio Curiaú Environmental Protection Area in the city of Macapá, state of Amapá Brazil. Using optical microscopy and molecular analysis, these cyst-shaped parasites were analyzed. The gills of 57.14% of the analyzed S. jurupari contained hundreds of spores. The cysts found on the gill lamellae were oval-shaped and whitish. The Henneguya spores had an average length of 46.5 (41.3-56.92) µm. The fusiform body of the Henneguya measured 16.5 (13.16-20.01) µm long and 5.1 (3.91-6.12) µm in width, the two polar capsules had a taper of 3.83 (3.4-4.32) µm and a width of 1.68 (1.4-1.99) µm, and the tail measured 30 (22.47-41.67) µm in length, containing a polar filament coiled seven to nine times. Morphogical and phylogenetic analysis allowed the preposition of a new species, Henneguya sacacaensis n. sp, that belongs to the family Myxobolidae and the genus Henneguya.

Abstract
Infection of fish gills by Henneguya causes greater contact between the secondary gill lamellae, thereby giving rise to decreased absorption surface area at the end of the filaments. This ectoparasite can cause damages on the gills infected fish. In the present study, fresh gills of Metynnis lippincottianus were analyzed using optical microscopy techniques. The myxoporean Henneguya sp. was found to be infecting 80% of the gills of this host fish. Presence of this parasite caused hyperplasia and fusion of the gill lamellae, but without inflammation in the parasitized organ.

Abstract
A new myxozoan species belonging to the genus Henneguya was isolated from the serous membrane of the visceral cavity of the hognosed catfish Brochis multiradiatus from Peruvian Amazon. Whitish plasmodia, macroscopically visible, were found in four of the thirty examined fishes. Mature myxospores were ellipsoidal in shape in frontal view and had a total length of 44.5 ± 0.6 μm (43.9-45.1), spore body measured 18.7 ± 0.9 μm (16.8-19.6) in length, 7.1 ± 0.2 μm (6.6-7.4) in width and 5.5 ± 0.3 μm (4.9-5.6) in thickness. The two polar capsules were elongated and equal in size, measuring 9.1 ± 0.1 μm (8.8-9.4) in length and 1.7 ± 0.1 μm (1.6-1.8) in width, occupying half of the myxospore body. Polar tubules coiled in 10-11 turns perpendicular to the long axis of the polar capsule. The caudal appendage was not bifurcated and measured 25.8 ± 0.6 μm (24.7-26.5) in length. The sequencing of the 18S rDNA gene resulted in 1400 bp and this sequence did not match any of the myxozoans available in GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis placed the new species in a well-supported subclade of Henneguya spp. infecting callichthyid fishes, with Henneguya loretoensis being the closest species. This study is the first description of a myxozoan species, Henneguya multiradiatus n. sp. from a fish of the genus Brochis.

Abstract
Molecular data of Henneguya chydadea Barassa, Cordeiro and Arana, 2003, found in the gill filaments of Astyanax lacustris bred in fish farm in the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil was obtained in order to estimate their phylogenetic position among other platysporines myxosporean. The prevalence of the parasite was 28.1% and the range intensity was 1-3 plasmodia per fish. The shape and measurements of mature myxospores were consistent with the characteristics previously defined to H. chydadea. The SSU rDNA sequence of the myxospores of H. chydadea resulted in a total of 1405 nucleotides, and this sequence did not match any of the myxozoan available in the GenBank. Phylogenetic analysis showed H. chydadea within the clade of histozoic myxosporeans and closed together with Henneguya rotunda and Myxobolus pantanalis reported in the gill arch and fins and gill filaments of Salminus brasiliensis respectively. Nonetheless, the SSU rDNA sequences of H. chydadea, H. rotunda and M. pantanalis have only 85.2% and 84.4% similarity, respectively. This is the first molecular study of a Henneguya species that parasitizes a fish belonging to the genus Astyanax in South America. The importance of myxosporeans introduction to new locations along with infected cultured host is emphasized.

Henneguya collaris sp. nov., (Myxosporidia), parasite of the Greenband Parrotfish Scarus collana Rüppell, 1835 (Actinopterygii, Scaridae) from the Red Sea, Egypt. Abstract
The phylum Myxozoa comprises more than 2180 species, almost all of which are considered to be obligate parasites of aquatic fishes. In the present study, Henneguya collaris sp. nov. is the first described histozoic myxozoan species of the genus Henneguya infecting the kidney of the greenband parrotfish Scarus collana (Actinopterygii, Scaridae). One hundred and eighty specimens of fish were collected randomly during the period from September 2014 to October 2015 from boat landing sites and the market places at Hurghada City along the Red Sea in Egypt. Of these, 90 (50 %) specimens were infected. Light microscopic examination showed that the infection was detected as mature spores with two polar capsules regularly arranged at the anterior pole of each spore and extruded polar filaments free in the kidney tissue. The spore body was oval in shape, measured 7.1 ± 0.2 (6.2-8.4) μm in length and 6.3 ± 0.2 (5.8-7.0) μm in width, with a bifurcated caudal process of equal length, reaching 6.3 ± 0.2 (5.8-7.0) μm in length. Polar capsules were 3.4 ± 0.2 (3.0-4.2) μm in length and 1.9 ± 0.2 (1.6-2.4) μm in width with 6-8 (10) turns of polar filaments. Ultrastructural analysis showed that the spore development was asynchronous. Sporogenesis, capsulogensis, valvogenesis, and spore maturation of the present parasite were also described. The present species was compared morphologically with the spore characteristics of the most similar species of Henneguya spp. recorded previously from different geographical areas taking into account the stage and dimensions of the spore body, tails, and polar filament coils, including their number and the most important characteristic features that distinguish them from the present species. Considering the data obtained, the material described herein represents a new species and the name Henneguya collaris sp. nov. is proposed.

Abstract
Forty-three out of 120 (35.8%) Clarias garipenus fish were found to be naturally infected with Henneguya suprabanchiae. The infection appeared as clusters of ovoid to ellipsoidal plasmodia being embedded within the hyaline cartilage of the suprabranchial organ of the fish. Histological studies indicate tissue distortion at the sites of infection. The continuous growth of the plasmodium led to deformation of the filament structure as well as disorganization and displacement of the gill lamellae. Also, a severe atrophy occurred in the hyaline cartilage of the gills and also in the gill lamellae. Based on the structure and measurements of fresh spores by light microscopy, this parasite was identified as H. suprabranchiae. Spores are oval in shape, and they measure 13 (11-14) × 3 (2-5) μm length by width. It has two polar capsules inside, each measures 3 (2.5-5) × 1 (1.5-4) μm length by width. Each polar capsule has a spirally coiled (7-9 turns) polar filament. The ultrastructural analysis showed that the plasmodia were surrounded by single-unit membrane. The generative cells and the early developmental stages were arranged at the periphery of the plasmodia, while immature and mature spores were centrally arranged. The developmental stages characterizing sporogenesis, capsulogenisis, and valvogenesis of the present parasite were ultrastructurally studied. The small subunit 18 S rDNA (SSU rDNA) gene sequences from different isolates was sequenced and compared with the sequence of the same gene from the Henneguya sp. isolated from GenBank. The phylogenetic position of the present Henneguya sp. within the genus was determined using sequence analysis of all related taxa available in GenBank, and the phylogenetic tree derived from this study is elucidated and compared with the current taxonomy of the available myxosporeans. Comparison of the nucleotide sequences and divergence showed that the SSU rDNA gene of this Henneguya species revealed 92.2% sequence identity with Henneguya exilis (acc. no. AF021881) differing in 30 nucleotides with lower divergence value.

Abstract
A new species of Myxosporea, Henneguya torpedo sp. nov., is described from the brain and spinal cord of the Amazonian teleostean fish Brachyhypopomus pinnicaudatus collected from the Peixe Boi River, State of Park, Brazil. The spores were surrounded by a thick hyaline sheath that is homogeneous and electron translucent and consists of 2 layers of different densities. The total spore length is 48.62 +/- 0.51 microm (mean +/- SE), the ellipsoidal spore body length is 28.53 +/- 0.36 microm, the body width is 7.25 +/- 0.31 microm and the body thickness is 3.06 +/- 0.26 microm. Each of the 2 equal-sized valves presented a tapering tail (19.64 +/- 0.44 microm in length). The 2 equal-sized thin and smooth valves surrounded 2 equal-sized and elongated ellipsoidal polar capsules (6.41 +/- 0.26 x 1.84 +/- 0.19 microm) that contained 5 to 6 (rarely 7) polar filament coils. The binucleated sporoplasm contained numerous spherical sporoplasmosomes (-260 x -280 nm) with a laterally eccentric-dense structure containing a half-crescent section. The sporoplasmosomes are surrounded by a hyaline homogenous sheath. Based on the data obtained by light and electron microscopy and on the host specificity, the spores differed from the previously described Henneguya spp., mainly in the presence of a sheath surrounding the spores, the spore shape and size and the number and arrangement of the polar filament coils. Therefore, from this description we propose the establishment of a new species, which we have named Henneguya torpedo sp. nov.

Abstract
The present work describes myxozoans found in Cyphocharax nagelli (Characiformes: Curimatinae) commonly called "sagüiru" collected from Rio do Peixe Reservoir, São José do Rio Pardo, São Paulo, Brazil. From a total of 38 examined fish, 24 were infected with Henneguya garavelli n. sp. (63% prevalence) and two with Myxobolus peculiaris n. sp. (5% prevalence) in the gills. Spores were studied by staining and fresh spores were observed by differential interference contrast optics. Henneguya garavelli n. sp. differs from Henneguya iheringi, Henneguya occulta, Henneguya cesarpintoi, Henneguya santae, Henneguya pisciforme, Henneguya amazonica, Henneguya striolata, Henneguya leporinicola and Henneguya chydadea in spore length and from Henneguya travassosi, Henneguya adherens, Henneguya malabarica, Henneguya piaractus and also Henneguya chydadea in polar capsule length and tail length. Myxobolus peculiaris n. sp. was very different when compared to other species of Myxobolus in its morphology and the biggest size of spore body. The authors present tables with comparative measurements of Brazilian myxozoan parasites.

Abstract
Henneguya rhamdia n. sp. is described in the gill filaments of the teleost fish Rhamdia quelen, collected from the Peixe Boi River, State of Pará, Brazil. This myxosporean produced spherical to ellipsoidal plasmodia, up to 300 microm in diameter, which contained developmental stages, including spores. Several dense bodies up to 2 microm in diameter were observed among the spores. The spore body was ellipsoidal (13.1 microm in length, 5.2 microm in width, and 2.5 microm in thickness) and each of the two valves presented a tapering tail (36.9 microm in length). These valves surrounded the binucleated sporoplasm cell and two equal ellipsoidal polar capsules (4.7 x 1.1 microm), which contained 10-11 (rarely 12) polar filament coils. The sporoplasm contained sporoplasmosomes with a laterally eccentric dense structure with a half-crescent section. Based on the data obtained by electron microscopy and on the host specificity, the spores differed from previously described Henneguya species, mainly in their shape and size, number and arrangement of the polar filament coils, and sporoplasmosome morphology.

Abstract
The histological and ultrastructural characteristics of a new species of Henneguya and the host reactions to infection by this species are reported. Henneguya caudalongula sp. n. was found in the inter and intralamellar regions of the gills of Prochilodus lineatus (Valenciennes, 1836) cultivated at Center for the Research and Management of Continental Fishing Resources located in the municipality of Pirassununga, state of São Paulo, Brazil. The plasmodia were white and round or ellipsoidal and measured 0.2 to 1 mm in length. The development of the parasite was asynchronous and the mature spores were fusiform, with a total length 71 +/- 1.4 microm, body length of 16.6 +/- 0.54 microm and width 4.6 +/- 0.2 microm. The caudal process was 52.6 +/- 1.5 microm long. The polar capsules were elongate (length 6.1 +/- 0.19 microm, width 1.6 +/- 0.15 microm) and of equal size. The polar filament was coiled in 10-11 turns. The prevalence of the parasite was 48.3% and did not vary significantly with the season or host size.

Abstract
The life cycle of the histozoic myxozoan parasite Henneguya nuesslini was investigated in two salmonid host species. Naive brown trout, Salmo trutta, and brook trout, Salvelinus fontinalis, were experimentally infected in two trials by triactinomyxon type actinospores from naturally infected Tubifex tubifex. In exposed common carp, Cyprinus carpio, no myxospore production was detected. The parasite formed cysts with mature myxospores in the connective tissue of the fish 102 days post-exposure. The morphology of both actinosporean and myxosporean stages was described by light microscopy and a 1417-bp fragment of the 18S rDNA gene was sequenced. Sequence analysis confirmed the absolute congruence of the two developmental stages and assisted in determining species identity. Host range, tissue specificity and myxospore measurements provided sufficiently distinctive features to confirm species validity and were thus crucial for identification. The triactinomyxon spores had 16 secondary germ cells, unique dimensions, a very opaque sporoplasm matrix and three conspicuously protruding, pyriform polar capsules. This is the first record of a Henneguya sp. life cycle with a triactinomyxon-type actinospore, which suggests a close relationship with the Myxobolus group and a polyphyletic origin of the genus Henneguya.
