Abstract
Background The easing of COVID-19 policies in China appears to have been inadequately prepared, leading to a profound shift in the mental wellbeing of healthcare professionals following the lifting of these measures. Our study aims to investigate the pathways underlying negative emotions experienced by healthcare professionals due to perceived inadequate system preparedness, aiming to enhance their mental health protection and facilitate more effective responses during future large-scale public health crises. Methods A total of 826 healthcare professionals were enrolled. Depression symptoms, anxiety symptoms, perceived stress, resilience, perceived inadequate system preparedness were measured in our research. Results The prevalence of depression and anxiety symptoms among healthcare professionals were 32.1 and 16.2%, respectively, during the concentrated outbreak of COVID-19 in China after easing policy. The chain mediation analysis reveals that perceived inadequate system preparedness significantly directly predicts depression or anxiety symptoms among healthcare professionals, indirectly through the mediating role of stress, as well as via the chain mediation of stress and resilience. However, it does not predict these symptoms through the mediator of resilience alone. Furthermore, contracting COVID-19 directly predicts depression symptoms. Conclusions Perceived inadequate system preparedness can have a detrimental impact on negative emotions through various channels. When facing the potential outbreak of a large-scale public health event in the future, it is crucial to implement measures such as providing psychological counseling, increasing risk allowances, and ensuring an adequate supply of personal protective equipment to be better prepared. Additionally, psychosocial interventions should be implemented to enhance the resilience of healthcare professionals and safeguard the mental wellbeing of those infected with COVID-19, etc.

Abstract
Background In December 2022, the Chinese government shifted its COVID-19 prevention and control policy to full openness, leading to a widespread pandemic within a short period. This study aimed to examine the trajectories of stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms among Chinese university students within 1 year after the implementation of the open policy. Additionally, it investigated the influence of sleep quality, psychological resilience, and medical specialization on these psychological trajectories. Methods A cohort study was conducted among Chinese university students using stratified sampling. Follow-up assessments were conducted at three time points: T1 (December 2022-January 2023), T2 (May-June 2023), and T3 (December 2023-January 2024). Generalized Estimating Equations were used to estimate mean differences in symptom levels over time and to examine the influence of sleep quality, psychological resilience, and medical specialization on these changes. Results At T1, a total of 2,062 university students were recruited. By T3, the follow-up rate was 63.43%, resulting in a final analytical cohort of 1,308 participants. Among them, 769 (58.8%) were female, and 539 (41.2%) were male. The majority (54.7%, n = 716) were between 19 and 22 years old. Stress, anxiety, and depression levels were highest among Chinese university students at the beginning of the open policy and gradually decreased over the following year. Students with poor sleep quality and poor psychological resilience exhibited worsening psychological trajectories, which showed more severe and persistent symptoms. Medical and Nonmedical students consistently exhibited similar psychological trajectories. Conclusions Collectively, the present study indicated that the change of COVID-19 prevention and control policy had more serious negative impacts on the mental health of Chinese university students than the epidemic itself. Thus, strengthening psychological treatments and psychosocial interventions for university students would be crucial in the context of a protracted infectious disease epidemic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With societal development and increasing talent demands, college students face escalating pressures primarily stemming from academic burdens, uncertainties about the future, and complex social environments. These pressures have profound effects on mental health, particularly negatively impacting emotions and behavior. In this context, depressive symptoms are becoming increasingly prevalent among college students. Given the potential links between emotional disorders, anxiety, social pressure, and academic burnout, this study aims to explore how these factors collectively influence depression in college students. METHODS This study utilized a questionnaire approach, resulting in 599 valid responses. The collected data were analyzed using Smart-PLS for SEM to investigate the relationships among the variables. RESULTS The SEM analysis indicated that the comprehensive model explained 83.2% of the variance in depression. Alexithymia significantly positively predicted anxiety and social pressure. Academic burnout significantly positively influenced social pressure, anxiety, and depression. Anxiety played a partial mediating role in the impact of alexithymia and academic burnout on depression. Social pressure and alexithymia did not have a significant positive impact on depression. In addition, there is a significant gender difference in the impact of academic burnout on depression, with the path coefficient for males being significantly higher than that for females. CONCLUSION This study validated the complex relationships among alexithymia, anxiety, social pressure, academic burnout, and depression. As an emotional expression disorder, alexithymia not only directly impacts anxiety levels in college students but also indirectly affects depression through anxiety. Furthermore, the positive influence of academic burnout on anxiety and depression indicates that excessive academic burdens are significant sources of mental health issues for college students. This research offers new insights into understanding college students' mental health issues, aiming to provide more comprehensive intervention strategies for their psychological well-being.

Abstract
Background Suicide is a global public health issue. This study examined the role of COVID-19 burnout and reappraisal in suicidal ideation caused by depressive symptoms among Chinese college students. Methods 587 students (261 boys, M age = 19.53, SD = 1.42) were assessed using the Short Depression-Happiness Scale (SDHS), Positive and Negative Suicide Ideation (PANSI) inventory, and Emotion Regulation Scale (ERS). Results Correlation analysis indicated depressive symptoms were negatively correlated with reappraisal and positively correlated with suicidal ideation and COVID-19 burnout. Reappraisal was negatively correlated with suicidal ideation and COVID-19 burnout. The moderated mediation model showed COVID-19 burnout enhanced the direct effect of depressive symptoms on suicidal ideation and indirectly enhanced this effect by weakening the protective role of reappraisal. Conclusion These finding show that reappraisal acts as a protective factor against suicidal ideation in individuals with depressive symptoms, while COVID-19 burnout exacerbates this effect by weakening reappraisal's protective role.

Abstract
Research on burnout has garnered considerable attention since its inception. However, the ongoing debate persists regarding the conceptual model of burnout and its relationship with depression. Thus, we conducted a network analysis to determine the dimensional structure of burnout and the burnout-depression overlap. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Student Survey and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 were used to measure burnout and depression among 1096 college students. We constructed networks for burnout, depression, and a burnout-depression co-occurrence network. The results showed that cynicism symptom was the most central to the burnout network. In the co-occurrence network, depressive symptoms ("anhedonia", "fatigue") and burnout symptom ("doubting the significance of studies") were the most significant in causing burnout-depression comorbidity. Community detection revealed three communities within burnout symptoms, aligning closely with their three dimensions identified through factor analysis. Additionally, there was no overlap between burnout and depression. In conclusion, our findings support a multidimensional structure of burnout, affirming it as a distinct concept separate from depression. Cynicism, rather than exhaustion, plays the most important role in burnout and the burnout-depression comorbidity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psychological repurcussions of COVID-19 pandemic has received wide attention, but there's limited attention paid to psychological recovery afterwards. This study focuses on the changes and predictive factors of mental health of Chinese university students post-pandemic. METHODS This study included 1175 Chinese undergraduate students sampled in May 2022 and May-June 2023, right before and after peaks of infections following the end of lockdown policy in China. The participants completed a survey of demographic variables, and three questionnaires: 12-item General Health Questionnaire, Positive Psychological Capital Questionnaire, and Prosocial Tendencies Measure. RESULTS The participants sampled in 2023 have significant lower GHQ scores and higher PPQ scores than those sampled in 2022, while there is no significant difference in PTM scores between them. The proportion of participants with GHQ-12 scores exceeding 12 in 2023 showed slightly decrease compared to that in 2022. The infection of significant others, the sense of hope, and PPQ self-efficiency, hope and optimism subscale scores were significantly associated with GHQ-12 scores in 2023, but actual infection or quarantine experience were not. CONCLUSIONS The mental health and psychological capital of the university students have been significantly improved within a year. It is worthy to pay attention to the infection of significant others, the sense of hope, and psychological capital in a pandemic to improve the mental health of university students. LIMITATIONS Compared to a cross-sectional study, longitudinal research is the better choice for a two-year comparison.

Abstract
Background There is an escalating concern about the rising levels of anxiety and depression among college students, especially during the post-pandemic era. A thorough examination of the various dimensions of social support and their impact on these negative emotions in college students is imperative. Aim This study aimed to determine if a perceived loss of control mediates the relationship between social support and levels of anxiety and depression among college students during the post-pandemic era. Additionally, it examined whether family socioeconomic status moderates this mediated relationship. Methods We administered an online cross-sectional survey in China, securing responses from 502 participants. The sample comprised home-isolated college students impacted by COVID-19. Established scales were employed to assess social support, anxiety, depression, perceived loss of control, and family socioeconomic status. Analytical techniques included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and a bootstrap method to investigate mediating and moderating effects. Results Social support was found to negatively affect anxiety and depression in college students, with perceived loss of control partially mediating this relationship. In addition, family socio-economic status was shown to moderate this moderating process. Furthermore, family socioeconomic status influenced this mediation, with higher socioeconomic families exhibiting a stronger moderating effect on perceived loss of control across different dimensions of social support. Conclusion This study may help to develop strategies to mitigate the impact of anxiety and depression in the lives and studies of university students during unexpected public health crises, and to promote better mental health among college students.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic led to numerous challenges for child protection professionals (CPPs). However, limited research has investigated the interwoven concepts of coping, resilience, and mental distress among CPPs during COVID-19 on a global scale. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to explore CPPs' practice, resilience, and mental distress during COVID-19, the relationship between their resilience and mental distress, the global stability of the Multi-System Model of Resilience (MSMR), and how CPPs' resilience varied according to the Human Development Index (HDI). METHODS Data were collected from 420 CPPs in 57 countries across five continents between July and September 2021. Participants completed an online questionnaire on demographics, resilience, mental distress, coping, and perceptions of child protection during the pandemic in their native languages. The analyses compared the countries grouped according to HDI using means comparisons, correlations, and multiple linear regressions. A two-path analysis was also performed to identify variables associated with behavioral resilience engagement and mental distress. RESULTS The findings indicated that CPPs' perceptions of COVID-19's impact on child maltreatment varied in correlation with their country's HDI. There were also significant HDI-based differences regarding the perceived opportunity to engage in resilient behavior and its helpfulness. Years of professional experience, internal resilience, and external resilience were shown to be significant predictors of mental distress among CPPs during the pandemic, and resilience mediated how years of experience predicted mental distress. CONCLUSIONS This study emphasized the importance of experience and internal resilience for CPPs' psychological well-being. It also provides empirical evidence to support the MSMR theory on a global scale. Additionally, it demonstrates how the perceived changes in child maltreatment during COVID-19 may be associated with regional HDI. Lastly, the opportunities CPPs had to engage in resilient behavior and how much this helped them was associated with regional HDI, but not in the way originally predicted. Study results also hold implications for how practice and policy may be altered to help CPPs cope better during times of crisis and generally.

Abstract
Purpose: Few studies examined variables that might explain the link between perceived COVID-19 stress and suicidal ideation. The present study tested a multiple-sequence mediation model with family cohesion, thwarted belongingness, and perceived burdensomeness as mediators. Methods: The current study surveyed 1098 college students in China using questionnaires concerning perceived COVID-19 stress, family cohesion, unmet interpersonal needs, and suicide ideation. Results: Perceived COVID-19 stress was significantly associated with family cohesion, thwarted belongingness, perceived burdensomeness, and suicidal ideation. Family cohesion, thwarted belongingness, and perceived burdensomeness mediated the relationship between perceived COVID-19 stress and suicidal ideation separately. These factors also had multiple sequence-mediated effects between perceived COVID-19 stress and suicidal ideation. Conclusion: The study revealed pathways from perceived COVID-19 stress to suicidal ideation and suggested that interventions to increase family cohesion and reduce one's unmet interpersonal needs were beneficial in decreasing individuals' suicidal ideation.

Abstract
Aim Changes during the COVID-19 pandemic might create pressure on different people, thus this study aimed to measure respondents' psychological distress during the early phase of the Omicron wave in Java Island. Methods A web-based survey on societal influence and COVID-19-related psychological distress was distributed through social media in November-December 2021, and received 396 responses. Results This study showed that almost 50% of respondents faced psychological distress during the early phase of the Omicron variant, especially concerning hypervigilance and avoidance. Several sociodemographic factors might contribute to the incidence of psychological distress including comorbidity, age and education. Conclusion Taken together, the incidence of COVID-19-related psychological distress was still found in the early phase of the Omicron variant, especially among young adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND High levels of stress are frequent in university education, and a lack of sleep has been reported to make students more vulnerable to stress. The mechanisms through which sleep harms students have not been sufficiently clarified; therefore, this study aimed to explore the mediating role of self-control and resilience in the relationship between sleep quality and duration and perceived stress. METHODS Of 32 first-year college students, 21 (78%) were women, with a mean age of 18.47 (±0.84). They responded to a self-administered survey that included questions on stress, resilience, and sleep quality and recorded their daily sleep duration using a wristband for six days. RESULTS Perceived stress was significantly correlated with resilience (r = -0.63), self-control (r = -0.46), sleep duration (r = -0.35), and lower sleep quality (r = 0.57). Path analysis revealed that self-control and resilience were partially mediated by sleep quality (R2 = 0.62; p < 0.01) and completely mediated by sleep duration (R2 = 0.46; p < 0.01). In both models, self-control had a direct effect on resilience and had a good-fit index. CONCLUSION Being resilient seems to play a mediating role in the relationship between sleep and perceived stress; this ability can be favored by self-control, which is directly influenced by sleep.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationships of college students' learning stress, psychological resilience and learning burnout remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the status quo and relationship of college students' learning stress, psychological resilience and learning burnout, to provide insights to the management and nursing care of college students. METHODS From September 1 to October 31, 2022, students in our college were selected by stratified cluster sampling and underwent survey with the learning stress scale, college students' learning burnout scale and the psychological resilience scale of college students. RESULTS A total of 1680 college students were surveyed in this study. The score of learning burnout was positively correlated with the score of learning stress (r = 0.69), and negatively correlated with the score of psychological resilience (r = 0.59), and the score of learning stress was negatively correlated with the score of psychological resilience (r = 0.61). Learning pressure was correlated with the age(r=-0.60) and monthly family income(r=-0.56), the burnout was correlated with the monthly family income(r=-0.61), and psychological resilience was correlated with the age(r = 0.66) (all P < 0.05). Psychological resilience played an intermediary role in the prediction of learning burnout by learning stress, with an total intermediary role of-0.48, accounting for 75.94% of the total effect. CONCLUSIONS Psychological resilience is the mediating variable of the influence of learning stress on learning burnout. College managers should take various effective measures to improve college students' psychological resilience to reduce college students' learning burnout.

Abstract
Young Australians have been differentially affected by lockdowns and social restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study compared the mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated restrictions for young people in two Australian states, Victoria and Queensland, with Victoria experiencing more days in lockdown and greater infection rates. An online survey was completed between 01/04/2021 and 31/07/2021 by 687 young people, aged 16 to 24 years; 337 from Victoria and 350 from Queensland. Levels of negative emotion feelings (as measured by the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale), and COVID-19 risk factors for negative emotions (such as financial hardship, education disruption, loneliness and household conflict), as well as protective factors (resilience and self-esteem) were compared between the Victorian and Queensland samples, also considering some early pandemic data and pre-pandemic norms. No significant differences in negative emotions were found between young people living in the two states, despite substantial differences in pandemic restrictions. The results indicated that young people in Queensland and Victoria had experienced similarly high levels of negative emotions, at levels also seen at the start of the pandemic in Victoria. This is of grave concern, requiring urgent attention as the pandemic continues.

Abstract
Background The repeated outbreaks of COVID-19 and the rapid increase in uncertainty have had many negative effects on the public's mental health, especially on emotional aspects such as anxiety and depression. However, in previous studies, there are few studies exploring the positive factors between uncertainty and anxiety. The innovation of this study is the first to explore the mechanism of coping style and resilience as people's psychological protective factors between uncertainty and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This study explored the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and anxiety of freshmen with coping style as mediating variable and resilience as moderating variable. A total of 1049 freshmen participated in the study and completed the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Results SAS score of the surveyed students (39.56 ± 10.195) was significantly higher than that of the Normal Chinese score (29.78 ± 10.07, p < 0.001). Intolerance of uncertainty was significantly positively correlated with anxiety (β = 0.493, p < 0.001). Positive coping style has a significant negative impact on anxiety (β = -0.610, p < 0.001), negative coping style has a significant positive impact on anxiety (β = 0.951, p < 0.001). Resilience moderates the second half of the influence of negative coping style on anxiety (β = 0.011, t = 3.701, p < 0.01). Conclusion The findings suggest that high levels of intolerance of uncertainty had negative effects mental burden during the COVID-19 pandemic. The knowledge of the mediating role of coping style and the moderating role of resilience may be used by health care workers when consulting freshmen with physical health complaints and psychosomatic disorders.
