Abstract
The potential of the seed flours and extracts of the red grapes Pinot Noir and Marselan for application as food additives and antioxidative dietary supplements was determined. The differences between the quality characteristics of the seeds, flour, and extracts of the two grape varieties were examined. The polyphenol composition and antioxidant potential of the two extracts were compared. The extracts were rich in polyphenols, especially flavonoids (52.01 mg QE/g DW) and procyanidins (152.18 mg CE/g DW). The nutritional composition of the flours and extracts was determined. It was found that the content of ash, crude protein, crude fat, and total dietary fibers in the flour from the studied grape seeds was about 1.5 times higher than that in the extracts. Only the carbohydrate content was 2-2.5 times higher in both extracts compared to that in the flours. The content of macro and microelements in the seed extracts and in the flours was high. The inhibitory potential of the two seed extracts on three key enzymes affecting diabetes and obesity-α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and pancreatic lipase-was studied. The highest degree of extract inhibition against α-glucosidase was determined (IC50-2.53 ± 0.24 µg/mL). A real inhibitory assessment of the extracts was made by implementing an in vitro digestion simulation method. It was found that the percentage of inhibition of the enzymes with the digested extract was higher compared to those with the undigested extract in buffer and salt solution. Our study proves that the high content of flavonoids and procyanidins in the two extracts determines their high inhibitory capacity against the three enzymes and their potential for managing diabetes and obesity.

Abstract
Cryptosporidiosis is a worldwide health problem that results in an economic loss. The disease is caused by the protozoan Cryptosporidium spp. Individuals with suppressed immunity, like those with organ transplantation, cancer and human immunodeficiency virus syndrome, suffer from the infection that may lead to the death. Nitazoxanide (NTZ) is the approved FDA treatment for cryptosporidiosis in immunocompetent individuals. There is an urgent need to find a new natural treatment that can replace NTZ in immunosuppressed hosts. The study aimed to use grape seed extract loaded chitosan nanoparticles (GSEx-CHNPs) in treatment of cryptosporidiosis in immunosuppressed male mice. GSEx was prepared by the alcoholic extraction method followed by the identification of its bioactive components. GSEx-CHNPs were synthesized by ionic gelation method and physically characterized then their activities were examined in vitro. The experimental groups, included immunocompetent and immunosuppressed groups, was treated with NPs for 14 days post infection (PI). The results showed the presence of many phenolic compounds in the GSEx. GSEx-CHNPs significantly improved the loss in animals body weight, cleared the infection and amolerated the serum cytokines levels. GSEx-CHNPs showed anti-cryptosporidial activity especially in immunosuppressed mice model. Where, it ameliorated the disturbance in the cytokine profile leading to an anti-inflammatory response.

Abstract
Formulations based on a mixture of corn: lentil flours (70:30) (93.75%), salt (1.25%), sugar (5%), 5 or 20% of Hylon® V, were fortified with 5 and 20% of fermented Cabernet Sauvignon grape skin or seed, and unfermented Chardonnay grape seed flours, and evaluated for their functional components. The incorporation of winemaking by-products increased the dietary fibre content. Soluble sugars and arabinoxylans content depended only on corn:lentil flours presence. The total starch content varied between 42 .55 g/100g to 58.41 g/100g and the highest concentrations of resistant starch were determined in formulations with 20% Hylon® V. Total phenols, total flavonoids, and anthocyanins, were higher in all formulations with 20% fermented Cabernet Sauvignon skin or unfermented Chardonnay seed flours, regardless the content of corn:lentil flours. Winemaking by-products represent potential functional and prebiotic novel ingredients for new functional food products.

Abstract
The rising demand for alternative solutions to diabetes mellitus has prompted significant interest in the exploration of plant-derived anti-diabetic compounds, especially within a circular economy framework that seeks sustainable and profitable reuse options. In this context, red (RSGO) and white (WGSO) grape seed oils, by-products of Sicilian vineyards, were prepared, analyzed for their fatty acid, polyphenol, carotenoid, and chlorophyll content, and evaluated for their glucose-lowering ability on HepG2 cells. Utilizing cytochemical techniques, flow cytometry, and protein blotting, we explored the effects of non-toxic oil dilutions on (i) glycogen storage, (ii) glucose consumption/uptake, (iii) GLUT-2, GLUT-4, and hepatocyte nuclear factor-1α (HNF1α) expression levels, and (iv) AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), insulin receptor substrate-1 (IRS-1), AKT, and PKCζ phosphorylation states, which are involved in insulin-mediated and -independent regulation of GLUT-4 membrane exposure. RGSO and WGSO, despite adopting slightly varying molecular strategies, were both proven to be effective stimulators of glucose absorption and glycogenesis. Specifically, RSGO promoted GLUT-2 and GLUT-4 up-regulation, whereas the WGSO-induced effect was associated with an increase in GLUT-4 levels alone. Moreover, the oils activated both pathways responsible for GLUT-4 translocation. Therefore, these wine-making residues have substantial potential as anti-diabetic solutions, holding promise for integration into the biomedical and food sectors.

Abstract
Chronic diseases are major contributors to global morbidity and mortality. More than 70% of deaths worldwide are caused by chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. These diseases are characterised by chronic low-grade inflammation and metabolic dysregulation. Incorporating functional foods into daily diet has been suggested as a complementary strategy to promote health and lower the risk of non-communicable diseases. Functional foods, known as foods that confer health benefits beyond basic nutrition, have been reported to exhibit preventive and therapeutic benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties for human health. Therefore, the aim of this state-of-the-art review will synthesise the findings from recent and high-quality studies that investigated the modulatory role of some commonly reported bioactive active compounds, such as polyphenols, omega-3 fatty acids, probiotics, and prebiotics, in inflammation and metabolic pathways.

Abstract
Tannins, a diverse class of polyphenolic compounds, are widely present in a variety of plant-based foods and beverages, where they contribute significantly to flavor, astringency, and numerous health benefits. Known for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties, tannins are associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Their bioavailability and metabolism are influenced by factors such as polymerization, solubility, and interactions with the gut microbiota. Tannin-rich beverages, including tea, wine, fruit juices, and cider, offer a range of health-promoting effects, including antioxidant, cardioprotective, and antimicrobial activities. In addition, tannins contribute significantly to the sensory and nutritional characteristics of fruits, nuts, and vegetables, influencing flavor, color, and nutrient absorption. The levels and efficacy of tannins are subject to variation due to factors such as ripeness and food processing methods, which can increase their impact on food quality and health. This review provides a comprehensive examination of the bioactive roles of tannins, their nutritional implications, and their sensory effects, highlighting their importance in both dietary applications and overall well-being.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW This review evaluates current research on grape-based interventions and their impact on cognitive and mental health. It also explores the putative mechanisms by which the grape-derived compounds might modulate cognitive function. The growing prevalence of cognitive decline and mental health disorders necessitates exploring novel dietary approaches. Grapes, rich in polyphenols, have demonstrated potential benefits in preclinical studies. However, translating these findings to humans remains an ongoing endeavor. RECENT FINDINGS Recent clinical trials complement existing observational data, suggesting a positive influence of grape consumption on cognition, particularly in areas of memory, learning, and overall cognitive function and emotional well-being. The potential mechanisms involve the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of grapes, which may mitigate neuroinflammation and protect brain cells from free radical damage. Evidence from existing research suggests that grape based interventions may improve cognitive performance through several neuroprotective mechanisms; however, further investigation is needed to understand the protective effects of grape-based interventions on brain function and mental health. Large-scale trials to assess the long-term effects and safety profile of grape interventions are required. Additionally, extensive epidemiological research is needed to confirm the effect of grape interventions on cognitive health and to determine the best beneficial dosage and duration of supplementations to maximise cognitive benefits.

Abstract
Extracts of medicinal seeds can be used to synthesize nanoparticles (NPs) in more environmentally friendly ways than physical or chemical ways. For the first time, aqueous extract from unexploited grape seeds was used in this study to create Se/ZnO NPS utilizing a green technique, and their antimicrobial activity, cytotoxicity, antioxidant activities, and plant bio stimulant properties of the economic Vicia faba L. plant were evaluated. Se/ZnO NPS is characterized by SEM and TEM images, FTIR, and XRD. Through the well diffusion assay and the scavenging of 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical experiment, biogenic Se/ZnO NPs demonstrated their antibacterial and antioxidant activities. The nanomaterial compound showed the highest inhibitory effects of 99.7, 55.63, 16.91, 10.25, 6.61, 3.83, 3.00, and 2.59%, respectively, against the cervical carcinoma (SKOV3 cells) cell line at conc of 7.81, 15.62, 31.25, 62.5, 125, 250, 500, and 1000 µg/ml, respectively, with IC50 values at 20.31 µg, resulting in 50% cell death. This study demonstrated the value of bimetallic nano-fertilizers Se/Zn in promoting faba bean development, yield features, and metabolite contents (protein, phenol, carbs, and pigments). These fertilizers are probably also advantageous for other crops. When applied in contrast to the control, 100 ppm of biological nano-Se/ZnO may generally result in the best growth and yield of faba beans. Further research is needed on the ecological aspect of biological nanofertilizers in addition to the economic one.

Abstract
Grape processing generates large amounts of by-products, including seeds rich in hydrophilic and lipophilic antioxidants. This study demonstrates, for the first time, that subjecting grape seeds to a single ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) with aqueous ethanolic solutions yields both flavan-3-ols and tocochromanols in the final extract. Notably, the water content in ethanol significantly influences the extractability of tocochromanols more than flavan-3-ols. Solid-to-solvent ratios of 1:50 to 1:2 were tested for both analytical and industrial applications. A sustainable analytical approach for recovering flavan-3-ols and tocochromanols using 60% and 96.4% ethanol extractions was validated and employed to profile nineteen genotypes of lesser-studied interspecific grape crosses (Vitis spp.). Different genotypes showed a wide range of concentrations of tocopherols (1.6-6.3 mg/100 g), tocotrienols (1.0-17.4 mg/100 g), and flavan-3-ols (861-9994 mg/100 g). This indicated that the genetic background and maturity of the plant material are crucial factors from an industrial perspective due to the initial concentration of bioactive compounds. Finally, the study also discussed the fundamental aspects of hydrophobic antioxidant extractability from the lipid matrix with aqueous ethanol solutions and the limitations of the workflow, such as the non-extractable tocochromanols and their esters and the losses of these lipophilic antioxidants during extraction.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) continues to pose a global health concern, necessitating the exploration of innovative therapeutic approaches. In the recent decade, targeting tumor stroma consisting of extracellular matrix (ECM), immune cells, vascular system, hypoxia, and also suppressive mechanisms in HCC has attracted interest in repressing tumor growth and metastasis. Phytochemicals have attained considerable attention because of their manifold biological effects and high capacity for anticancer activities. These chemical agents have shown the capability to modulate different cells and secretions within the stroma of malignancies. In recent years, the development of nanoformulations has further enhanced the therapeutic potential of phytochemicals by improving their solubility, bioavailability, and targeted delivery to tumor tissues. This review aims to provide an encyclopedic overview of the potential of phytochemicals and their nanoformulations as promising therapeutic strategies for targeting HCC. The review initially highlights the broad array of phytochemicals exhibiting potent anticancer properties, including flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, among others. Then, the nanoformulations and modification of these agents will be reviewed. Finally, we will review the latest experiments that have examined the modulation of HCC using adjuvant phytochemicals and their nanoformulations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic kidney disease (CKD) will become the fifth leading cause of death in the world by 2040. It is fundamental to prevent and treat this pathology to reduce its impact on national health costs. This trial's aim is to evaluate the effects induced by a combination of consumed functional foods (FFs) with adapted physical activity (APA) on the progression of CKD-related comorbidities. METHODS The study lasted 12 weeks. We divided 40 CKD patients into four groups: mixed (FF + APA), APA, FF and control group (usual care). The FFs were characterized by their total antioxidant capacity and antiradical activity. The APA was performed though an online training protocol, three times per week, 1 h each session. RESULTS At the end of the study, we observed, in the mixed group, a decrease in azotemia (p = 0.0272), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.0169), and C-reactive protein (p = 0.0313), with increases in the FORD test (p = 0.0203) and fat free mass (p = 0.0258). The APA group showed a reduction in total cholesterol (p = 0.0039). CONCLUSIONS The combination of FFs and APA can help counteract several CKD-related comorbidities, such as arterial hypertension, dyslipidemia and uremic sarcopenia, and improve the CKD patients' quality of life.

Abstract
The study focused on grape seed-derived polyphenols for their antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, and fibrinolytic properties through molecular docking and dynamics simulations. Compounds were evaluated for their effects on P2Y12, PTP1B, thromboxane A2, and other targets. Compounds 1 and 6 showed strong inhibitory potential on P2Y12. Compounds 2 and 7, plus epigallocatechin gallate, demonstrated effective inhibition on NF-KB and COX1. The compounds exhibited drug-like properties and potential for new thrombotic disease therapies. The research sheds light on the interactions between polyphenols and target proteins, paving the way for novel antiplatelet strategies.

Abstract
The use of muscadine grape extracts (MGSE). in cancer treatment has gained attention due to its distinctive composition of polyphenols and antioxidants. This review analyses the reported anti-cancer properties of MGSE. The study commences by reviewing the phytochemical composition of MGSE, highlighting the presence of resveratrol and ellagic acid. Furthermore, the review underscores the mechanism of action of these active compounds in MGSE in combating cancer cells. The anti-cancer potential of MGSE compared to other plant extracts is also discussed. In addition, it highlights MGSE's superiority and distinct phytochemical composition in preventing cancer growth by comparing its anti-cancer compounds with those of other anti-cancer medicinal plants. Lastly, the combinatory approaches of MGSE with traditional cancer therapies, its safety, and its possible side effects were highlighted. This work provides an understanding of the anti-cancer properties of MGSE, positioning it as a valuable and unique challenge within the field of cancer therapy.

Abstract
Vitis vinifera extracts have been shown to possess antioxidant activity because of their polyphenol content. In addition, their therapeutic potential against several diseases, including cancer, has been reported. In this study, we produced twelve extracts from the seeds, fruit, leaves, and wood of the Vitis vinifera Airen variety using different extraction methodologies and measured their total polyphenol content (TPC). We also determined their antioxidant and antiproliferative effects against normal cells and evaluated the most potent extract against a panel of breast cancer cell lines. We found that the extracts produced by the seeds of Vitis vinifera had a higher TPC compared to the other parts of the plant. Most extracts produced from seeds had antioxidant activity and did not show cytotoxicity against normal breast cells. The extract produced from whole organic seeds of white grape showed the best correlation between the dose and the ROS inhibition at all time points compared to the other seed extracts and also had antiproliferative properties in estrogen-receptor-positive MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of proteins Bcl-2, Bcl-xL, and survivin, and induction of apoptosis. Further investigation of the constituents and activity of Vitis vinifera extracts may reveal potential pharmacological applications of this plant.

Abstract
Herbal medicine has an important part in promoting and maintaining human health. One of them was grape seed extract (GSE). Various potentials of GSE in human health have been explored, and its potential for maintaining bone health is promising. Some initial research has provided evidence that the GSE was able to affect bone remodeling (bone resorption and bone formation). This scoping review analyzed and discussed all the reports on the effect of GSE on bone healing and bone remodeling in animals in the alveolar bone, jaw bone, and skeletal bone. The further purpose is to give an opportunity to research and development of supplementation of GSE for humans.The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines were used to compose this scoping review through database on Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, Embase, and manual search until December 2022. The inclusion criteria were a study that analyzed the effect of supplementation GSE on all bones.All included study was in vivo study with supplementation of GSE. The supplementation of GSE affects the alveolar bone, jaw bones, and skeletal bone by promoting bone formation and inhibiting bone resorption by suppressing inflammation, apoptosis pathways, and osteoclastogenesis. It not only supports bone remodeling in bone inflammation, osteonecrosis, osteoporosis, and arthritis but also the GSE increases bone health by increasing the density and mineral deposition in trabecula and cortical bone.The supplementation of GSE supports bone remodeling by interfering with the inflammation process and bone formation not only by preventing bone resorption but also by maintaining bone density.

Abstract
Amikacin (AMK), an antibiotic, is prescribed for treating various bacterial diseases like urinary tract infections, encephalitis, asthma and joint infections. The most significant side effects, which affect 1 to 10% of consumers, are kidney injury and ototoxicity. Several studies discussed the role of grape seed extract (GSE) in renoprotection against AMK. The current study aimed to extract Muscat of Alexandria grape seeds followed by its characterization to determine its bioactive components and elements. GSE nanoparticles was prepared and tested, in vitro, to determine its safety for the in vivo experiment. Experimental groups were control group I, AMK group II, GSE (50 mg/kg)-AMK group III, GSE (100 mg/kg)-AMK group IV, GSE NPs (25 mg/kg)-AMK group V and GSE NPs (50 mg/kg)-AMK group VI. Groups 2-6 received 100 mg/kg/day of AMK by intramuscular injection for two weeks for the induction of experimental nephrotoxicity. Groups 3-6 received daily doses of GSE or GSE NPs by oral gavage, concurrently, with AMK for two weeks. GSE was rich in polyphenol compounds like proanthocyanidins, phenolic acids like gallic and egallic acids, catechine and epicatechine. GSE NPs have a smooth surface and a size that ranged from 40 to 70 nm; and have an anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cytotoxic and anti-microbial in vitro effects. It reduced oxidative stress and inflammation that followed AMK administration; and attenuated the AMK-induced nephrotoxicity. GSE NPs were safe to be used in vivo as a renoprotective agent against AMK; where, it reduced the oxidative stress and inflammation.

Abstract
The Kékfrankos is the most frequently cultivated wine grape in Hungary, with a significant national and regional impact, resulting in considerable amounts of byproducts (e.g. pomace, seeds). To the best of our knowledge no research has been conducted on the antioxidant and antibacterial properties of its seed extracts (GSE). A novel apporach of applying direct microwave treatment on grape seeds was implemented for the first time to enhance antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of GSE. Antioxidant properties were assayed using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) and TPC (Folin-Ciocâlteu's Total Polyphenol Content) methods. Profile and content of polyphenols was studied using high-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry. Antibacterial properties were evaluated using Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus (SA), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (ST239) (MRSA) and Gram-negative Escherichia coli (EC) bacteria strains. Results proved that the mild direct microwave treatment of grape seeds significantly increased total polyphenol, (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin as well as antioxidant capacity levels by 20-30 % compared to untreated samples and resulted the best antibacterial properties based on bacterial growth curves (SA and MRSA: 0.015625 mg/mL, EC: 0.25 mg/mL). Results justify the importance of further pharmacological investigations on Kékfrankos grape seed extracts and that the direct microwave treatment of grape seeds is an innovative approach for the fast and cost efficient improvement of the antibacterial properties of grape seed extracts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Iron overload in the body is associated with serious and irreversible tissue damage. This study aimed to investigate the iron-chelating, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hepatoprotective activities of grape seed extract (GSE) supplement as well as its safety in β-thalassemia major (β-TM) pediatric patients receiving deferasirox as a standard iron-chelation therapy. MATERIALS AND METHODS The children were randomly allocated to either GSE group (n = 30) or control group (n = 30) to receive GSE (100 mg/day) or placebo capsules, respectively, for 4 weeks. The serum levels of iron, ferritin, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), malondialdehyde (MDA), and glutathione (GSH) as well as superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and hemoglobin (Hb) concentration were measured pre-and post-intervention. RESULTS GSE supplement significantly attenuated the serum levels of iron (p = 0.030), ferritin (p = 0.017), ALT (p = 0.000), AST (p = 0.000), TNF-α (p = 0.000), and hs-CRP (p = 0.001). The TIBC level (p = 0.020) significantly enhanced in the GSE group compared with the placebo group. Moreover, GSE supplement remarkably improved the oxidative stress markers, MDA (p = 0.000) and GSH (p = 0.001). The changes in the SOD activity (p = 0.590) and Hb concentration (p = 0.670) were not statistically different between the groups. CONCLUSION GSE supplement possesses several health beneficial influences on children with β-TM by alleviating iron burden, oxidative stress, inflammation, and liver dysfunction.

Abstract
The pharmacological and preventive attributes of extracts from vegetable seeds have garnered widespread recognition within the scientific community. This study systematically assessed the in vitro antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-breast cancer properties of phytochemicals present in various solvent-based vegetable seed extracts. We also conducted molecular docking simulations to ascertain their interactions with specific target proteins. Besides, nine distinct chemical constituents were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS). Remarkably, the ethyl acetate extract exhibited robust inhibitory effects against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains. Furthermore, its capacity for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging was found to be noteworthy, with an IC50 value of 550.82 ± 1.7 µg/mL, representing a scavenging efficiency of 64.1 ± 2.8%. Additionally, the ethyl acetate extract demonstrated significant hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) scavenging activity, with a maximal scavenging rate of 44.1 ± 1.70% (IC50) at a concentration of 761.17 ± 1.8 µg/mL. Intriguingly, in vitro cytotoxicity assays against human breast cancer (MCF-7) cells revealed varying levels of cell viability at different extract concentrations, suggesting potential anticancer properties. Importantly, these ethyl acetate extracts did not display toxicity to L929 cells across the concentration range tested. Subsequently, we conducted in-silico molecular docking experiments utilizing Discovery Studio 4.0 against the c-Met kinase protein (hepatocyte growth factor; PDB ID: 1N0W). Among the various compounds assessed, 3,4-Dihydroxy-1,6-bis-(3-methoxy-phenyl)-hexa-2,4-diene-1,6-dione exhibited a notable binding energy of -9.1 kcal/mol, warranting further investigation into its potential anticancer properties, clinical applications, and broader pharmacological characteristics.

Abstract
The current study was conducted to elucidate the impact of grape seed extract (SE) and microencapsulated seed extract (MSE) addition to UF-Feta cheese. The SE was encapsulated in maize starch, alginate, and canola oil using the emulsion technique. The SE and MSE characteristics were evaluated. The products were subjected to physicochemical (pH, titrable acidity, color, texture, and sensory properties), microbiological analysis (starter count), and lipid oxidation test (proxide, acid degree, and ansidine value) during 60 days of storage. The main phenol component in the SE was catechin (419.04 mg/L), gallic acid (319.63 mg/L), and chlorogenic acid (4.19 ± 0.002 mg/L). The antioxidant value was 157.80 mg/L. The MSE was elliptical in shape with a 24.29 μm diameter. The efficiency of microencapsulation was 53.86%. The addition of SE and MSE had no significant effect on pH and acidity, but lipolysis decreased based on acid degree value (0.7%; p > .05). The increasing trend of peroxide values was 172.54%, 145.68%, and 118.75% for C, SE, and MSE samples, respectively, and 35.68%, 32.28%, and 17.24% for the P-anisidine values during the storage time. Therefore, fat oxidation was reduced in the supplemented cheese. Nevertheless, the supplemented cheese had limited color alterations. The MSE and SE did not affect the survival rates of the starter count. The SE and MSE had a less rigid structure. The hardness (2748.0 g) and chewiness (57.45 mJ) values in SE cheese had the greatest value among the samples. All sensory parameters were lowest in MSE cheese. In short, encapsulation showed suitable properties for SE to apply in UF-Feta cheese.

Abstract
Breast cancer is a significant public health problem globally and prevention strategies have become of great interest as its incidence rises. Exploring the connection between dietary patterns and the reduction of breast cancer risk is considered a promising approach. High levels of fiber, phytochemicals, a good antioxidant profile, and a composition of advantageous fatty acids are characteristics of healthy dietary programs such as the Mediterranean diet. This review summarized and discussed the active compounds that are considered important in preventing breast cancer, including dietary components from recent related reports. These include polyunsaturated fatty acids, fiber, phytochemicals, and alcohol. Although the exact mechanism for preventing breast cancer using these dietary factors is not well understood, the combination of all the elements in a healthy diet plays a role in reducing breast cancer risk. Considering the elevated probability of breast cancer relapse and mortality, it is crucial to investigate the correlation between a nutritious dietary pattern and breast cancer, while identifying bioactive components that have the potential to mitigate the risk of breast cancer incidence.

Abstract
Seeds' abundant biologically active compounds make them a suitable primary platform for the production of natural extracts, innovative foods, medicines, and cosmetics. High levels of industrial and agricultural residues and byproducts are generated during the processing of grapes, although some parts can also be repurposed. This paper examines the phytochemical composition, manufacturing processes, and health-improving attributes of many varieties of grape oil derived using various extraction methods. Since the results are influenced by a range of factors, they are expressed differently among studies, and the researchers employ a variety of measuring units, making it difficult to convey the results. The primary topics covered in most papers are grape seed oil's lipophilic fatty acids, tocopherols, and phytosterols. In addition, new methods for extracting grape seed oil should therefore be designed; these methods must be affordable, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly in order to increase the oil's quality by extracting bioactive components and thereby increasing its biological activity in order to become part of the overall management of multiple diseases.

Abstract
Seeds contain a variety of phytochemicals that exhibit a wide range of biological activities. Plant-derived compounds are often investigated for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, hypoglycemic, anti-hypercholesterolemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-platelet, anti-apoptotic, anti-nociceptive, antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, hepatoprotective, or neuroprotective properties. In this review, we have described the chemical content and biological activity of seeds from eight selected plant species-blackberry (Rubus fruticosus L.), black raspberry (Rubus coreanus Miq.), grape (Vitis vinifera L.), Moringa oleifera Lam., sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), Gac (Momordica cochinchinensis Sprenger), hemp (Cannabis sativa L.), and sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L). This review is based on studies identified in electronic databases, including PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SCOPUS. Numerous preclinical, and some clinical studies have found that extracts, fractions, oil, flour, proteins, polysaccharides, or purified chemical compounds isolated from the seeds of these plants display promising, health-promoting effects, and could be utilized in drug development, or to make nutraceuticals and functional foods. Despite that, many of these properties have been studied only in vitro, and it's unsure if their effects would be relevant in vivo as well, so there is a need for more animal studies and clinical trials that would help determine if they could be applied in disease prevention or treatment.

Abstract
Cancer accounts for one in seven deaths worldwide and is the second leading cause of death in the United States, after heart disease. One of the standard cancer treatments is chemotherapy which sometimes can lead to chemoresistance and treatment failure. Therefore, there is a great need for novel therapeutic approaches to treat these patients. Novel natural products have exhibited anticancer effects that may be beneficial in treating many kinds of cancer, having fewer side effects, low toxicity, and affordability. Numerous marine natural compounds have been found to inhibit molecular events and signaling pathways associated with various stages of cancer development. Fucoxanthin is a well-known marine carotenoid of the xanthophyll family with bioactive compounds. It is profusely found in brown seaweeds, providing more than 10% of the total creation of natural carotenoids. Fucoxanthin is found in edible brown seaweed macroalgae such as Undaria pinnatifida, Laminaria japonica, and Eisenia bicyclis. Many of fucoxanthin's pharmacological properties include antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, antiobesity, anticancer, and antihypertensive effects. Fucoxanthin inhibits many cancer cell lines' proliferation, angiogenesis, migration, invasion, and metastasis. In addition, it modulates miRNA and induces cell cycle growth arrest, apoptosis, and autophagy. Moreover, the literature shows fucoxanthin's ability to inhibit cytokines and growth factors such as TNF-α and VEGF, which stimulates the activation of downstream signaling pathways such as PI3K/Akt autophagy, and pathways of apoptosis. This review highlights the different critical mechanisms by which fucoxanthin inhibits diverse cancer types, such as breast, prostate, gastric, lung, and bladder development and progression. Moreover, this article reviews the existing literature and provides critical supportive evidence for fucoxanthin's possible therapeutic use in cancer.

AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of grape seed extract (GSE) on remineralization of surface and subsurface enamel lesions compared to that of sodium fluoride (NaF). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 20 intact bovine incisor crowns were separated from their roots and immersed in a demineralizing solution for 96 hours at 37°C to create artificial enamel lesions. The specimens were randomly divided into two groups (n = 10): 6.5% GSE solution and 1000 ppm NaF solution. The specimens were subjected to six daily pH cycles for 8 days. The microhardness test was carried out at three different stages: baseline, after artificial caries formation, and after pH cycling. Raman spectroscopy was used to evaluate the depth of enamel remineralization. Surface morphology and elemental analysis were assessed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscope, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 at a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. RESULTS There was a significant increase in the mean values of enamel surface microhardness after pH cycles in the two groups compared to after artificial caries formation, but there was no significant difference between both groups. The B-type carbonate/phosphate (Ca/P) ratio at 10 and 40 µm depth revealed no significant difference between the two groups. Scanning electron microscope micrograph revealed occlusion of porosities and particle precipitation on the enamel surface of the two groups, while EDX results for the Ca/P ratio of the GSE and NaF groups were 1.59 and 1.60, respectively. CONCLUSION Grape seed extract and NaF are equally effective in remineralizing surface and subsurface artificial enamel lesions. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Grape seed extract can be considered a promising herbal material and a safe alternative to traditional NaF for the noninvasive treatment of enamel lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the effect of olive leaf extract (OLE) supplementation on cardiovascular-related variables, including lipid, glycemic, inflammatory, liver and renal-related factors, as well as blood pressure. METHODS PubMed, ISI Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane library were searched, up to October 2021, for relevant controlled trials. Mean differences and standard deviations were pooled for all outcomes, using a random-effects model. The methodological quality, as well as quality of evidence were assessed using standard tools. RESULTS Twelve studies (n = 819 participants) were included in our analyses. Overall analyses showed that OLE supplementation significantly decreased triglyceride (TG) levels (WMD = - 9.51 mg/dl, 95% CI - 17.83, - 1.18; P = 0.025; I2 = 68.7%; P-heterogeneity = 0.004), and systolic blood pressure (SBP) (WMD = - 3.86 mmHg, 95% CI - 6.44, - 1.28 mmHg; P = 0.003; I2 = 19.9%; P-heterogeneity = 0.28). Subgroup analyses also revealed a significant improvement in SBP (- 4.81 mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure (- 2.45 mmHg), TG (- 14.42 mg/dl), total cholesterol (TC) (- 9.14 mg/dl), and low-density lipoprotein-C (LDL-C) (- 4.6 mg/dl) measurements, in patients with hypertension. Significant reductions were also observed in TC (- 6.69 mg/dl), TG (- 9.21 mg/dl), and SBP (- 7.05 mmHg) in normal-weight individuals. However, no meaningful changes were seen in glucose hemostasis, liver and kidney, or inflammatory markers. CONCLUSION The present study revealed that supplementation with OLE yielded beneficial effects for blood pressure and lipid profile in adults, especially in patients with hypertension. As the quality of evidence for glucose hemostasis variables, liver, kidney, and inflammatory markers, were low-to-very low, higher quality RCTs may impact the overarching results. Abstract
This is a preliminary study evaluating the effect of different fractions of Concord grapes (Vitis labrusca L.) on the brush border membrane (BBM) morphology, duodenal gene expression, and specific gut bacterial populations. For this study, we utilized a unique intraamniotic approach, wherein, the test substances are administered into the amnion of the Gallus gallus egg (on day 17). The embryo orally consumes the amniotic fluid along with the injected test substance before the hatch. We randomly divided ~50 fertilized eggs into 5 groups including 6% grape (juice, puree, and pomace) along with controls (no injection and diluent—H2O). The grape juice was prepared by crushing the grapes; the grape residues were used as pomace. The grape puree included the grape skin, endocarp, mesocarp, and juice but not the seeds. On day 21, the hatch day, the blood, pectoral muscle, liver, duodenum, and large intestine were harvested. Our results showed no significant differences in blood glucose, pectoral glycogen level, or body weight. However, significant (p < 0.05) differences in duodenal and liver gene expression were observed between the treatment groups. The grape puree treatment resulted in higher Clostridium numbers and lower Bifidobacterium numbers when compared to all other groups. In summary, the dietary consumption of grape polyphenols has the potential to beneficially modulate aspects of intestinal health provided their concentration is limited.

Abstract
Background and purpose Multiple sclerosis (MS), a multifactorial autoimmune disease of the central nervous system (CNS), is characterized by demyelination and chronic inflammation, as well as axonal and neuronal loss. There is no cure for MS, and despite a significant improvement in the therapeutic management of patients during the last 20 years, some symptoms are still resistant to treatment, and the evolution of the disease to progressive form seems still ineluctable. The etiology of MS is complex and still not fully understood. However, inflammation is a major driver of physiopathology and oxidative stress contributes to CNS lesions and promotes existing inflammatory response. Plant polyphenols are endowed with many therapeutic benefits through alleviating oxidative stress and inflammation, thus providing neuroprotection in MS. We presently evaluated the curative effect of grape seed extract (GSE) in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model of MS. Experimental approach Six-week-old C57Bl/6J females were subjected to the EAE paradigm (using myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein peptide fragment (35-55), complete Freund’s adjuvant, and pertussis toxin) and then chronically treated with GSE from day 10 to day 30 post-induction. Clinical score and body weight were monitored daily, while evaluation of sensitive, motor, cognitive, and anxiety-related behaviors was performed weekly. Then, the GSE effect was evaluated on whole brain and spinal cord samples through the evaluation of oxidative stress damage, antioxidant capacities, myelin alteration, astroglial and microglial proliferation, and sirtuin expression. Key results Grape seed extract curative chronic treatment corrected the clinical course of EAE, as well as the mechanical hypersensitivity, and avoided the development of EAE mouse thermal cold allodynia. The neuropathological evaluation showed that GSE reduced oxidative stress in the brain and spinal cord by decreasing the lipid and protein oxidation through correction of the three main antioxidant enzyme activities, namely, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase, as well as restoring normal myelin protein expression and correcting microglial and astroglial protein overexpression and sirtuin downregulation. Conclusion and implications These data strongly support GSE as an effective therapeutic approach in MS treatment.

Abstract
Grape seed extract from (Vitis vinifera) (VGSE) is an excellent source of various polyphenols that exhibit highly potent antioxidant and disease prevention properties. Although numerous biological activities, with potential for improving human health, have been reported for VGSE, there is a lack of data relating to the health benefits of VGSE on DNA damage, protein damage, labile iron activity, and enzyme inhibitory effects. This investigation demonstrated, for the first time, that VGSE inhibits DNA and BSA damage and labile iron activity in-vitro. Moreover, VGSE also inhibited in-vitro activities of AChE, tyrosinase, and α-amylase. VGSE treatment significantly reduced viability of MCF-7, Hep-G2, Caco-2, and Huh-7 cells after 48-h treatments. The results obtained provide additional support for the purported health benefits of VGSE and reinforce its potential in disease prevention and therapy, especially in relation to cancer.

Abstract
This study explored the in vivo wound healing potential of Vitis vinifera seed extract using an excision wound model with focus on wound healing molecular targets including TGFBR1, VEGF, TNF-α, and IL-1β. The wound healing results revealed that V. vinifera seed extract enhanced wound closure rates (p < 0.001), elevated TGF-β and VEGF levels, and significantly downregulated TNF-α and IL-1β levels in comparison to the Mebo®-treated group. The phenotypical results were supported by biochemical and histopathological findings. Phytochemical investigation yielded a total of 36 compounds including twenty-seven compounds (1−27) identified from seed oil using GC-MS analysis, along with nine isolated compounds. Among the isolated compounds, one new benzofuran dimer (28) along with eight known ones (29−36) were identified. The structure of new compound was elucidated utilizing 1D/2D NMR, with HRESIMS analyses. Moreover, molecular docking experiments were performed to elucidate the molecular targets (TNF-α, TGFBR1, and IL-1β) of the observed wound healing activity. Additionally, the in vitro antioxidant activity of V. vinifera seed extract along with two isolated compounds (ursolic acid 34, and β-sitosterol-3-O-glucopyranoside 36) were explored. Our study highlights the potential of V. vinifera seed extract in wound repair uncovering the most probable mechanisms of action using in silico analysis.

Abstract
Grape seeds are a rich source of flavan-3-ol monomers, oligomers, and polymers. The diverse profile of compounds includes mainly B-type procyanidins (especially C4→C8 linked molecules) and the key monomers, catechin, and epicatechin that are positively implicated in the 'French Paradox'. Today grape seed nutraceuticals have become a multi-million-dollar industry. This has created incentives to elucidate the variations in chemistry across cultivars, to identify signs of adulteration, and to understand the intrinsic and extrinsic factors controlling the expression of metabolites in the seeds' metabolome. This review provides a critical overview of the existing literature on grape seed chemistry. Although the biosynthetic pathways for polymeric procyanidins in seeds have not yet been explained, abiotic factors have been shown to modulate associated genes. Research of extrinsic factors has demonstrated that the control of procyanidin expression is strongly influenced, in order of importance, by genotype (species first, then variety) and environment, as claimed anecdotally. Unfortunately, research outcomes on the effects of abiotic factors have low certainty, because effects can be specific to genotype or variety, and there is limited control over physical metrics in the field. Thus, to gain a fuller understanding of the effects of abiotic factors and biosynthetic pathways, and realise potential for optimisation, a more fundamental research approach is needed. Nevertheless, the current synthesis offers insight into the selection of species or varieties according to the profile of polyphenols, as well as for optimisation of horticultural practices, with a view to produce products that contain the compounds that support health claims.

Abstract
Conventional extraction methods of proanthocyanidins (PAC) are based on toxic organic solvents, which can raise concerns about the use of extracts in supplemented food and nutraceuticals. Thus, a PAC extraction method was developed for grape seeds (GS) and grape seed powder using food-grade ethanol by optimizing the extraction conditions to generate the maximum yield of PAC. Extraction parameters, % ethanol, solvent: solid (s:s) ratio, sonication time, and temperature were optimized by the central composite design of the response surface method. The yields of PAC under different extraction conditions were quantified by the methylcellulose precipitable tannin assay. The final optimum conditions were 47% ethanol, 10:1 s:s ratio (v:w), 53 min sonication time, and 60 °C extraction temperature. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed the presence of catechin, procyanidin B2, oligomeric and polymeric PAC in the grape seed-proanthocyanidin extracts (GS-PAC). GS-PAC significantly reduced reactive oxygen species and lipid accumulation in the palmitic-acid-induced mouse hepatocytes (AML12) model of steatosis. About 50% of the PAC of the GS was found to be retained in the by-product of wine fermentation. Therefore, the developed ethanol-based extraction method is suitable to produce PAC-rich functional ingredients from grape by-products to be used in supplemented food and nutraceuticals.

Abstract
This study evaluated the potential neurobehavioral effects of proanthocyanidin-rich-fraction (PRF) obtained from Vitis vinifera seed in male Albino mice. Adult (2½- to 3-month old) male Albino mice were treated with PRF (200, 100, 50 mg/kg) and subjected to diverse behavioral models specially designed for the assessment of central nervous system-acting agents. One-shot intraperitoneal (i.p) injection of PRF (200 and 100 mg/kg) decreased the rectal temperature, exploratory activities (locomotion, rearing, and grooming), anxiety-like responses (% open-arm time, open-arm entries but decreased the total number of enclosed arm times). However, acute i.p administration of PRF decreased the total score of apomorphine-induced stereotyped behaviors, latency to hexobarbitone-induced sleep, and increased the total sleep duration. Moreover, indices of convulsion (tonic flexion, extension, clonic convulsion, stupor, and recovery time) were decreased in the PRF treatment groups, especially the PRF (50 mg/kg)-treated mice. Based on these present findings, it could therefore be inferred that systemic administration of PRF of V. vinifera seed origin induces diverse modification on the behaviors of the treated mice stemming from anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, and decrease in core temperature.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aims to determine the effect of grape seed proanthocyanidin (GSP) pretreatment on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation of human gingival epithelial cells (HGECs). METHODS HGECs were cultivated with different concentrations of GSPs (0, 1, 5, 10, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 μg·mL-1) for 6, 12, 24, and 48 h. CCK-8 was used to detect the proliferation activity of HGECs. HGECs were treated with different concentrations of GSPs (0, 10, 20, and 40 μg·mL-1) for 24 h and then cultured with 1.0 μg·mL-1 LPS. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect the expression levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 and anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4, IL-10, and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (QRT-PCR) was used to detect the mRNA expression levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-4, IL-10, and TGF-β. RESULTS When the GSP concentration was 0-40 μg·mL-1, the cell proliferation had no significant difference. When the action time reached 24 h, the cell proliferation was the highest. The results of ELISA and QRT-PCR showed that 10, 20, and 40 μg·mL-1 GSPS decreased the expression levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 (P<0.05) and increased the expression levels of IL-4, IL-10, and TGF-β compared with 0 μg·mL-1 GSPS (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS GSPS (0-40 μg·mL-1) has no significant effect on the proliferation activity of HGECs. Pretreatment with GSPS can inhibit the expression of pro-inflammatory factors and enhance the expression of anti-inflammatory factors. Hence, GSPS has a certain preventive effect on the resistance of HGECs to the stimulation of endotoxin.

Abstract
In this study, some phytochemical properties of six seeded raisin species that are mainly cultivated in Southeastern Anatolia were investigated. Additionally, some physical and quality characteristics, phenolic contents (by LC-MS/MS; Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass / Mass Spectrometer System), anticholinesterase, and antioxidant capacities (DPPH; 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free-radical scavenging, ABTS; 2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid cation-radical scavenging activity and CUPRAC; cupric reducing antioxidant capacity) of the cultivars were investigated on ground raisins. In all three methods, the antioxidant activity values of seed extracts were determined to be higher than those of leaf and pulp extracts. Remarkably, the seed extract of Banazı Siyahı showed the highest antioxidant activity in ABTS (IC50: 4.35±0.02 μg/mL), DPPH (IC50: 10.78±0.78 μg/mL), and CUPRAC (A0.5: 9.33±0.45 μg/mL) methods. Additionally, the ethanol extracts of all pulp samples showed higher anticholinesterase activity against acetyl-(AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzymes than galantamine. According to the LC-MS/MS results, catechin (21.362 mg analyte/g extract) and epicatechin (44.667 mg analyte/g extract) found to be quite rich in Kerküş seed extract and isoquercitrin (116.873 mg analyte/g extract) and astragalin (31.915 mg analyte/g extract) detected to be quite rich in Banazı Siyahı leaf extract. Considering the mineral content of the varieties and the soil samples they grow in, all of the grape varieties analyzed in the study was found to be rich. Based on these findings, it might be suggested that Banazı Siyahı and Kerküş varieties have potential to be utilized in pharmaceutical and food industries, due to their contents of catechins, isoquercitrin and astragalin.

Abstract
Bioactive dietary polyphenols in grape (Vitis vinifera) have been used in Dietary Supplements (DSs) with the aim to prevent numerous diseases, including cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, and to reduce depression and anxiety. Given prior recognition that DSs can be quality challenged from the purity, authentication, adulteration, and actual concentration of targeted bioactives, to ensure consumer health protection as well as the quality and safety of grape polyphenol-based DSs, the present investigation was aimed at establishing a comprehensive quality control (QC) approach for grape polyphenol-based DSs in support of a human clinical study. In this study, the manufactured grape seed polyphenol extract (GSPE) and trans-resveratrol (RSV) capsules and Concord Grape Juice (CGJ) along with the corresponding original drug materials were analyzed using the developed different liquid chromatography/UV-visible spectroscopy/mass spectrometry (LC/UV-Vis/MS) methods. The weight variation of GSPE and RSV capsules was also evaluated according to the US Pharmacopeia (USP) tests. The results indicate that the total identified polyphenol content in each grape seed extract (GSE) capsule/CGJ is very similar and all GSE/RSV capsules pass the content/weight uniformity test. Given the complexity of these and many botanical products from the issues of purity, quality, adulteration, consistency, and their coupling to the complex chemistry in each grape-derived botanical, quality assurance and the steps needed to ensure grape-derived DSs being well homogeneous and stable and containing the known and expected bioactives at specific concentration ranges are fundamental to any research study and in particular to a clinical trial. Each of these issues is essential to provide a solid foundation upon which clinical trials with botanicals can be conducted with the goal of realizing measurable mental health outcomes such as reducing depression and anxiety as well as understanding of their underlying biological mechanisms.

Abstract
Chemicals can induce nephrotoxicity, with damage to different segments of the nephron and deterioration of renal function. Nephrotoxicity due to exposure to a toxin such as carbon tetrachloride, sodium oxalate, or heavy metals is the most common cause of kidney injury. The current study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of Celastrus paniculatus seed extract against lead-acetate-induced nephrotoxicity by evaluating the histopathology, immunohistochemistry, ultrastructure, and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway. Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups (n = 6 per group): group 1 contained normal animals and served as the control; group 2 received lead acetate (30 mg/kg body weight (b.w.)/day, oral); group 3 received lead acetate and the standard drug N-acetylcysteine (NAC, 200 mg/kg b.w./day, oral); and group 4 received lead acetate and the ethanolic extract of C. paniculatus seed (EECP; 800 mg/kg b.w./day, oral). Treatment was given for 28 consecutive days. The data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance with SIGMA PLOT 13 using SYSTAT software followed by Newman–Keul’s test for comparison between the groups. EECP ameliorated the adverse changes caused by lead acetate. PI3K and AKT messenger RNA (mRNA) levels were diminished in lead-acetate-treated rats. Treatment with EECP inhibited the occurrence of shrunken cells, the atrophy of glomeruli, and degenerative changes in renal tubules caused by lead acetate. Interestingly, the PI3K and AKT mRNA levels were significantly increased in EECP-treated animals. Our results clearly evidence for the first time that C. paniculatus seed extract inhibits lead-acetate-induced detrimental changes in kidneys by regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathways.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Grape seed extract (GSE) seems to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties due to its high polyphenolic content. Nevertheless, the scientific literature in this field is controversial and inconclusive. Therefore, we aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled trials to evaluate the effect of supplementation with GSE on biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation. METHODS Medline, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar and Web of Science databases were searched up to 10 September 2020 using appropriate keywords without restrictions. In the systematic review phase, all biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation were considered as outcomes. In the meta-analysis phase, six biomarkers were selected as outcomes, and weighted mean difference (WMD) or standardised mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated for them using a random-effects model. RESULTS Twenty-three studies were included in the systematic review, and 19 studies were included in the meta-analysis. GSE supplementation caused a significant decrease in malondialdehyde (SMD: -1.04, 95% CI: -1.65, -0.42), oxidised low-density lipoprotein (SMD: -0.44, 95% CI: -0.75, -0.13) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (WMD: -0.48 mg/L, 95% CI: -0.94, -0.03) and a marginally significant increase in total antioxidant capacity (SMD: 0.49, 95% CI: -0.05, 1.04) but did not significantly influence C-reactive protein (WMD: -0.36 mg/L, 95% CI: -1.02, 0.30) and white blood cell count (WMD: 0.12 × 109 /L, 95% CI: -0.25, 0.48). CONCLUSION It appears that GSE supplementation can remarkably modulate the body's redox system, particularly through the inhibition of lipid peroxidation, but has neutral or mildly beneficial effects on inflammatory responses.

Abstract
Dental pathology remains a global health problem affecting both children and adults. The most important dental diseases are dental caries and periodontal pathologies. The main cause of oral health problems is overpopulation with pathogenic bacteria and for this reason, conventional therapy can often be ineffective due to bacterial resistance or may have unpleasant side effects. For that reason, studies in the field have focused on finding new therapeutic alternatives. Special attention is paid to the plant kingdom, which offers a wide range of plants and active compounds in various pathologies. This review focused on the most used plants in the dental field, especially on active phytocompounds, both in terms of chemical structure and in terms of mechanism of action. It also approached the in vitro study of active compounds and the main types of cell lines used to elucidate the effect and mechanism of action. Thus, medicinal plants and their compounds represent a promising and interesting alternative to conventional therapy.

Abstract
The ancient Egyptians practiced medicine with highly professional methods. They had advanced knowledge of anatomy and surgery. Also, they treated a lot of diseases including dental, gynecological, gastrointestinal, and urinary disorders. They could diagnose diabetes and cancer. The used therapeutics extended from different plants to include several animal products and minerals. Some of these plants are still used in the present day. Fortunately, they documented their life details by carving on stone, clay, or papyri. Although a lot of these records have been lost or destroyed, the surviving documents represent a huge source of knowledge in different scientific aspects including medicine. This review article is an attempt to understand some information about traditional medicine in ancient Egypt, we will look closely at some basics, sources of information of Egyptian medicine in addition to common treated diseases and therapeutics in this great civilization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a wine ages, altered sensory properties lead to changes in perceived quality and value. Concurrent modifications of anthocyanin and tannin occur forming pigmented tannin, softening astringency and retaining persistent color. Wine tannin extracts of 1990 and 2010 vintages of Oakville Station Cabernet Sauvignon have been analyzed using normal-phase chromatography with tandem quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (QToF) to investigate the compositional differences in their pigmented tannin fractions. RESULTS The older wine demonstrates much greater structural diversity and a range of more polar compounds, while the younger wine contains fewer observed ion peaks. Several hundred molecular features are observable, and, as expected, there is progression to higher molecular weights after long aging. Between 7% and 16% of molecular features could be matched to a database of anticipated pigmented tannin compounds. Many signals had multiple possible isomeric identities, but fragmentation to resolve their identity was stymied by low sensitivity of the tandem mass spectrometric capability provided by QToF, so isomeric disambiguation is incomplete. CONCLUSIONS The chromatography displayed a high degree of resolution in aged wines, separating many of the known pigment types, including aldehyde bridged compounds, pyranoanthocyanins and direct condensation products among others, as well as resolving a great number of unknown compounds. Expanding our understanding of red wine pigments will lead to better wines as winemakers will be able to associate quality with particular wine pigment profiles once we can distinguish the relevant patterns in those pigments. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
Tyrosinase (TYR) is a type III copper oxidase present in fungi, plants and animals. The inhibitor of human TYR plays a vital role in pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields by preventing synthesis of melanin in the skin. To search for an effective TYR inhibitor from various plant extracts, a kinetic study of TYR inhibition was performed with mushroom TYR. Among Panax ginseng, Alpinia galanga, Vitis vinifera and Moringa oleifera, the extracts of V. vinifera seed, A. galanga rhizome and M. oleifera leaf reversibly inhibited TYR diphenolase activity with IC50 values of 94.8 ± 0.2 µg/mL, 105.4 ± 0.2 µg/mL and 121.3 ± 0.4 µg/mL, respectively. Under the same conditions, the IC50 values of the representative TYR inhibitors of ascorbic acid and kojic acid were found at 235.7 ± 1.0 and 192.3 ± 0.4 µg/mL, respectively. An inhibition kinetics study demonstrated mixed-type inhibition of TYR diphenolase by A. galanga and V. vinifera, whereas a rare uncompetitive inhibition pattern was found from M. oleifera with an inhibition constant of Kii 73 µg/mL. Phytochemical investigation by HPLC-MS proposed luteolin as a specific TYR diphenolase ES complex inhibitor, which was confirmed by the inhibition kinetics of luteolin. The results clearly showed that studying TYR inhibition kinetics with plant extract mixtures can be utilized for the screening of specific TYR inhibitors.

Abstract
The current trend worldwide is searching plant extracts towards prevention of neurodegenerative disorders. This study aimed to investigate the neuroprotective effect of Alpinia galanga leaves (ALE), Alpinia galanga rhizomes (ARE), Vitis vinifera seeds (VSE), Moringa oleifera leaves (MLE), Panax ginseng leaves (PLE) and Panax ginseng rhizomes (PRE) ethanolic extracts on human neuroblastoma (SHSY5Y) cells. The 1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging of VSE and MLE were 81% and 58%, respectively. Ferric-reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) of ALE and MLE (33.57 ± 0.20 and 26.76 ± 0.30 μmol Fe(ΙΙ)/g dry wt., respectively) were higher than for the other extracts. Liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF/MS) revealed MLE active compounds. Intracellular study by nitro-blue tetrazolium (NBT) test showed that MLE and VSE had high O2− scavenging (0.83 ± 0.09 vs. 0.98 ± 0.08 mg/mL, respectively). MLE had the highest ROS scavenging followed by PRE (0.71 ± 0.08 vs. 0.83 ± 0.08 mg/mL, respectively), by 2,7-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (DCFHDA) assay. The 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) cytotoxicity and neuroprotection tests on SHSY5Y showed that PRE had a better neuroprotective effect but higher cytotoxicity compared to MLE (viable cells 51% vs. 44%, IC50 1.92 ± 0.04 vs. 2.7 ± 0.2 mg/mL, respectively). In conclusion, among the studied plants, MLE has potential for developing as a neuroprotective agent.

Abstract
The emergence of antibiotic-resistance in bacteria has limited the ability to treat bacterial infections, besides increasing their morbidity and mortality at the global scale. The need for alternative solutions to deal with this problem is urgent and has brought about a renewed interest in natural products as sources of potential antimicrobials. The wine industry is responsible for the production of vast amounts of waste and by-products, with associated environmental problems. These residues are rich in bioactive secondary metabolites, especially phenolic compounds. Some phenolics are bacteriostatic/bactericidal against several pathogenic bacteria and may have a synergistic action towards antibiotics, mitigating or reverting bacterial resistance to these drugs. Complex phenolic mixtures, such as those present in winemaking residues (pomace, skins, stalks, leaves, and especially seeds), are even more effective as antimicrobials and could be used in combined therapy, thereby contributing to management of the antibiotic resistance crisis. This review focuses on the potentialities of winemaking by-products, their extracts, and constituents as chemotherapeutic antibacterial agents.
