Circulating Biomarkers to Predict Post-Operative Cognitive Decline in Patients Undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting

Post-operative cognitive decline (POCD) is characterized by impairments in cognitive functions. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is associated with a high risk of POCD due to its impact on neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. In this study, we investigated the dynamics of neurotrophic, inflammatory, and oxidative stress markers in a cohort of post-CABG patients to identify potential biomarkers for POCD. Blood samples were collected at baseline (immediately post-surgery) and at 3-month follow-up. Expression levels of NRF2 and other regulators of oxidative stress (GST, GSS, HMOX1, CAT, HSP27, and LOX-1), inflammatory mediators (IL-6, IP-10, and NFκB), and neuroprotective factor (BDNF) were analyzed. Cognitive assessments were performed using RBANS, TMT, TIB and MMSE. POCD patients exhibited an initial upregulation of NRF2-related antioxidant genes, which failed to sustain at 3-months follow-up, leading to a decline in HMOX1, IP-10 and BDNF protein levels, along with increased LOX-1 protein level and NFκB expression, indicating persistent oxidative stress and inflammation. In contrast, non-POCD patients demonstrated a sustained increase in antioxidant and neuroprotective markers, suggesting a more effective compensatory response. ROC analysis identified HMOX1 and BDNF as significant predictors of POCD, with LOX-1 and IP-10 emerging as diagnostic markers at follow-up. In conclusion, our findings highlight the dynamic regulation of oxidative stress and inflammatory pathways in POCD, emphasizing the failure of sustained neuroprotection in affected patients. Further large-scale studies are necessary to validate these findings, and biomarker-based screening could facilitate early risk stratification and targeted interventions to improve cognitive outcomes after cardiac surgery.

Nrf2/Bach1 signaling axis: A promising multifaceted therapeutic strategy for Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia, which continues to elude effective treatment despite decades of research and numerous clinical trials. While existing therapeutic strategies have primarily targeted neuropathological hallmarks such as amyloid plaques and tau tangles, they have failed to halt disease progression, leaving patients with limited options. This persistent failure reveals a critical gap in our understanding of AD and calls for a fresh perspective - one that goes beyond the traditional targets and dives deeper into the fundamental cellular processes that drive neurodegeneration. Recent advances in molecular biology underscore the significance of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), often termed the "guardian of redox homeostasis," in the pathophysiology of AD. Nrf2 orchestrates cellular responses to oxidative stress and neuroinflammation - two interlinked pathological features of AD. In the brains of AD patients, Nrf2 activity is diminished, weakening the brain's ability to counteract oxidative damage. Additionally, the BTB and CNC homology 1 (Bach1) protein, a transcriptional repressor of Nrf2, has emerged as a potential therapeutic target. Here, we review the current landscape of clinical trials in AD and identify the limitations of the conventional approaches. We then explore the prospects of a novel approach that combines Nrf2 activation with Bach1 inhibition to achieve a multipronged defense against oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and other molecular culprits driving AD. This innovative strategy holds promise for synergistically modulating multiple neuroprotective pathways to advance AD treatment.

Nrf2 Ameliorates Sevoflurane-Induced Cognitive Deficits in Aged Mice by Inhibiting Neuroinflammation in the Hippocampus

Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND), common complications that occur after anesthetized surgery in elderly patients, are major challenges to our rapidly growing aging population. The transcription factor known as nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is an essential component of the cellular antioxidant response, purportedly contributing to the preservation of cognitive functions such as learning and memory. Nevertheless, the function and intracellular processes involving Nrf2 in PND remain largely unknown. Therefore, we evaluate the influence and fundamental mechanism of Nrf2 on PND in aged mice. To establish the postoperative neurocognitive dysfunction (PND) model, aged mice were subjected to anesthesia via inhalation of 3% sevoflurane for a duration of 2 h. The role of Nrf2 in PND was investigated by administering microinjections of either the adeno-associated virus (AAV)-Nrf2 vector or a null virus vector into the hippocampal CA1 region of aged mice 28 days before exposure to sevoflurane. Various assays including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence staining, and western blotting were employed to assess levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, microglial activation, and the oxidative stress response. Furthermore, synaptic plasticity was evaluated through long-term potentiation (LTP) recording and Golgi staining techniques. Elevated expression of Nrf2 within the hippocampal CA1 region ameliorated sevoflurane-induced cognitive deficits, synaptic plasticity anomalies, and the oxidative stress reaction in aged mice. Furthermore, the activation of microglia and the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines (including IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-1β) within the hippocampus post-sevoflurane exposure were modulated in an Nrf2-dependent fashion. Based on the findings from present research, we conclude that Nrf2 ameliorates sevoflurane-induced cognitive dysfunction by inhibiting hippocampal neuroinflammation, thereby proposing a potential therapeutic target for PND.

Myricetin Mitigated Sevoflurane-induced Cognitive Dysfunction in Aged-mice Through Inhibiting Histone Deacetylase 2/nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-related Factor 2/heme Oxygenase-1 Signalling-mediated Ferroptosis and Mitochondrial Dysfunction

Sevoflurane anaesthesia induces neurotoxicity and postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) after surgery. This study investigated the roles and potential mechanisms of the natural flavonoid myricetin in sevoflurane-induced cognitive dysfunction. Primary hippocampal neurons were treated with 3% sevoflurane to establish a neuron injury model. Neurons was pre-treated with different concentrations of myricetin, and ferroptosis inhibitor ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) was used as a positive control. Moreover, mice were anaesthetised with 3% sevoflurane to establish an in-vivo model, and they were pre-treated with 50 or 100 m/kg myricetin. Cell viability and death were determined. Ferroptosis-related markers, including intracellular iron content, reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4-HNE), glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) protein levels were measured. Myricetin treatment enhanced cell viability and mitigated sevoflurane-induced cell death in the hippocampal neurons. Sevoflurane exposure increased the ROS, MDA and 4-HNE levels and reduced the GSH level, whereas myricetin treatment abrogated these effects. Meanwhile, myricetin treatment restrained sevoflurane-induced increase in intracellular iron content and GPX4 and SLC7A11 protein levels. A high dose of myricetin showed distinct protective effects. Mechanistic studies demonstrated that myricetin treatment reversed sevoflurane-induced histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) upregulation and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) deacetylation, thus activating the Nrf2/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signalling. Myricetin treatment mitigated sevoflurane-induced cognitive dysfunction in aged mice by inhibiting hippocampal ferroptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction via the HDAC2/Nrf2/HO-1 signalling pathway. Myricetin may be a treatment option for POCD after surgery.

NXP031 restores memory function by dual effects degrading Aβ accumulation and facilitating antioxidant pathway in Alzheimer's disease models

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a representative neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by the overaccumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) proteins. Since AD is accompanied by excessive oxidative stress, which aggravates neurological pathologies, the use of antioxidants has been considered to prevent disease development. NXP031, a combination of vitamin C (VitC) and an optimized aptamer that binds to VitC and stabilizes the reactivity of VitC, was designed. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of NXP031 on AD pathology, including Aβ accumulation, Aβ-induced oxidative stress, neuronal damage, and neuroinflammation. When NXP031 was administered to 5xFAD transgenic mice, NXP031 exerted a strong inhibitory action on Aβ accumulation, superior to that of VitC, by inducing an increase in Aβ-degrading endopeptidase expression. NXP031 diminished lipid peroxidation levels, activated Nrf2-mediated antioxidant pathways, and suppressed overactivated neuroinflammation. An in vitro study using Neuro2a cells revealed that NXP031 protects the cells against oxidative stress by regulating the MAPK signaling pathway-mediated apoptosis. Additionally, the neuroprotective effects of NXP031 were confirmed in a dose-dependent manner when administered to intrahippocampal Aβ-injected mice, as NXP031 attenuated memory decline, neuronal apoptosis, synaptic degeneration, and excessive glial activation, and reduced NOX-2 expression in the hippocampus. Taken together, NXP031 reduced the Aβ burden by regulating Aβ-degeneration and attenuated memory impairment, neuronal death, synaptic degeneration, and neuroinflammation induced by Aβ toxicity. These results suggest the potential of NXP031 as a therapeutic agent for AD.

Nrf2 induction potency of plant-derived compounds determined using an antioxidant response element luciferase reporter and conventional NAD(P)H-quinone acceptor oxidoreductase 1 activity assay

OBJECTIVE

Various plants have been reported to contain compounds that promote the transcriptional activity of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) to induce a set of xenobiotic detoxifying enzymes, such as NAD(P)H-quinone acceptor oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), via the antioxidant response element (ARE). While conventional methods for evaluating Nrf2 induction potency include measurement of NQO1 activity, an ARE luciferase reporter assay was recently developed to specifically assess Nrf2 induction potency of compounds of interest. In this study, we compared the abilities of these two assays to evaluate and determine Nrf2 induction potency of plant-derived compounds.

RESULTS

Although the compounds exhibited a high degree of consistency between assays, several compounds did not. These results suggest that although the NQO1 assay can be used as an evaluation method to estimate Nrf2 induction potency of a compound, an ARE luciferase reporter approach may offer greater precision. In summary, inconsistency in Nrf2 induction potency evaluated by the reporter and NQO1 assays of plant-derived compounds, including resveratrol, may be due to a variety of factors that may regulate NQO1 gene expression other than Nrf2 and/or directly modulate NQO1 enzymatic activity or protein levels, with each compound having a different degree of effect on these factors.

The Interplay of Carveol and All-Trans Retinoic Acid (ATRA) in Experimental Parkinson's Disease: Role of Inflammasome-Mediated Pyroptosis and Nrf2

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a debilitating and the second most common neurodegenerative disorder with a high prevalence. PD has a multifaceted etiology characterized by an altered redox state and an excessive inflammatory response. Extensive research has consistently demonstrated the role of the nuclear factor E2-related factor (Nrf2) and inflammasomes, notably NLRP3 in neurodegenerative diseases. In this study, our focus was on exploring the potential neuroprotective properties of carveol in Parkinson's disease. Our findings suggest that carveol may exhibit these effects through Nrf2 and by suppressing pyroptosis. Male albino mice were treated with carveol, and the animal PD model was induced through a single intranigral dose of 2 µg/2µl lipopolysaccharide (LPS). To further demonstrate the essential role of the Nrf2 pathway, we utilized all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) to inhibit the Nrf2. Our finding showed the induction of pyroptosis as evidenced by increased levels of NLRP3 and other inflammatory mediators, including IL-1β, iNOS, p-NFKB, and apoptotic cell death indicated by positive fluoro Jade B (FJB) staining. Moreover, increased levels of lipid peroxides and reactive oxygen species indicated a significant rise in oxidative stress due to LPS. The administration of carveol mitigates oxidative stress and suppresses inflammatory pathways through the augmentation of intrinsic antioxidant defenses, primarily via the activation of the Nrf2. Conversely, ATRA reversed carveol protective effects by increasing FJB-positive cells, inflammatory and oxidative biomarkers. Taken together, our findings suggest that carveol mitigated LPS-induced Parkinson-like symptoms, partially through the activation of the Nrf2 and downregulation of pyroptosis notably NLRP3.

Unraveling of Molecular Mechanisms of Cognitive Frailty in Chronic Kidney Disease: How Exercise Makes a Difference

As our population ages, the medical challenges it faces become increasingly acute, with chronic kidney disease (CKD) becoming more prevalent among older adults. Frailty is alarmingly more common in CKD patients than in the general populace, putting the elderly at high risk of both physical and cognitive decline. CKD not only accelerates physical deterioration, but also heightens vascular dysfunction, calcification, arterial rigidity, systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and cognitive impairment. Cognitive frailty, a distinct syndrome marked by cognitive deficits caused by physiological causes (excluding Alzheimer's and other dementias), is a critical concern. Although cognitive impairment has been well-studied, the molecular mechanisms driving cognitive frailty remain largely uncharted. Comprehensive interventions, including cutting-edge pharmaceuticals and lifestyle changes, are pivotal and effective, especially in the early stages of CKD. Recent research suggests that systematic exercise could counteract cognitive decline by improving brain blood flow, boosting neuroplasticity through the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and by triggering the release of neurotrophic factors such as insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1). This review delves into the molecular pathways of cognitive frailty in CKD, identifies key risk factors, and highlights therapeutic approaches, particularly the potent role of exercise in enhancing cognitive health.

miR-30a-5p mediates ferroptosis of hippocampal neurons in chronic cerebral hypoperfusion-induced cognitive dysfunction by modulating the SIRT1/NRF2 pathway

OBJECTIVE

Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion (CCH) is a common cause of brain dysfunction. As a microRNA (also known as miRNAs or miRs), miR-30a-5p participates in neuronal damage and relates to ferroptosis. We explored the in vivo and in vitro effects and functional mechanism of miR-30a-5p in CCH-triggered cognitive impairment through the silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1)/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) pathway.

METHODS

After 1 month of CCH modeling through bilateral common carotid artery stenosis, mice were injected with 2 μL antagomir (also known as anti-miRNAs) miR-30a-5p, with cognitive function evaluated by Morris water maze and novel object recognition tests. In vitro HT-22 cell oxygen glucose deprivation (OGD) model was established, followed by miR-30a-5p inhibitor and/or si-SIRT1 transfections, with Fe2+ concentration, malonaldehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) contents, reactive oxygen species (ROS), miR-30a-5p and SIRT1 and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) protein levels, NRF2 nuclear translocation, and miR-30a-5p-SIRT1 targeting relationship assessed.

RESULTS

CCH-induced mice showed obvious cognitive impairment, up-regulated miR-30a-5p, and down-regulated SIRT1. Ferroptosis occurred in hippocampal neurons, manifested by elevated Fe2+ concentration and ROS and MDA levels, mitochondrial atrophy, and diminished GSH content. Antagomir miR-30a-5p or miR-30a-5p inhibitor promoted SIRT1 expression and NRF2 nuclear translocation, increased GPX4, cell viability and GSH content, and reduced Fe2+ concentration and ROS and MDA levels. miR-30a-5p negatively regulated SIRT1. In vitro, miR-30a-5p knockout increased NRF2 nuclear translocation by up-regulating SIRT1, inhibiting OGD-induced ferroptosis in HT-22 cells.

CONCLUSION

miR-30a-5p induces hippocampal neuronal ferroptosis and exacerbates post-CCH cognitive dysfunction by targeting SIRT1 and reducing NRF2 nuclear translocation.

Phenothiazines: Nrf2 activation and antioxidant effects

Phenothiazines (PTZs) are an emerging group of molecules showing effectiveness toward redox signaling and reduction of oxidative injury to cells, via the activation on Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1/nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2). Although several electrophilic and indirect Nrf2 activators have been reported, the risk of "off-target" effect due to the complexity of their molecular mechanisms of action, has aroused research interest toward non-electrophilic and direct modulators of Nrf2 pathway, such as PTZs. This review represents the first overview on the roles of PTZs as non-electrophilic Nrf2 activator and free radical scavengers, as well as on their potential therapeutic effects in oxidative stress-mediated diseases. Here, we provide a collective and comprehensive information on the PTZs ability to scavenge free radicals and activate the Nrf2 signaling pathway, with the aim to broaden the knowledge of their therapeutic potentials and to stimulate innovative research ideas.

The neuroprotective potential of phytochemicals in traumatic brain injury: mechanistic insights and pharmacological implications

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) leads to brain damage, comprising both immediate primary damage and a subsequent cascade of secondary injury mechanisms. The primary injury results in localized brain damage, while the secondary damage initiates inflammatory responses, followed by the disruption of the blood-brain barrier, infiltration of peripheral blood cells, brain edema, and the release of various immune mediators, including chemotactic factors and interleukins. TBI disrupts molecular signaling, cell structures, and functions. In addition to physical tissue damage, such as axonal injuries, contusions, and haemorrhages, TBI interferes with brain functioning, impacting cognition, decision-making, memory, attention, and speech capabilities. Despite a deep understanding of the pathophysiology of TBI, an intensive effort to evaluate the underlying mechanisms with effective therapeutic interventions is imperative to manage the repercussions of TBI. Studies have commenced to explore the potential of employing natural compounds as therapeutic interventions for TBI. These compounds are characterized by their low toxicity and limited interactions with conventional drugs. Moreover, many natural compounds demonstrate the capacity to target various aspects of the secondary injury process. While our understanding of the pathophysiology of TBI, there is an urgent need for effective therapeutic interventions to mitigate its consequences. Here, we aimed to summarize the mechanism of action and the role of phytochemicals against TBI progression. This review discusses the therapeutic implications of various phytonutrients and addresses primary and secondary consequences of TBI. In addition, we highlighted the roles of emerging phytochemicals as promising candidates for therapeutic intervention of TBI. The review highlights the neuroprotective roles of phytochemicals against TBI and the mechanistic approach. Furthermore, our efforts focused on the underlying mechanisms, providing a better understanding of the therapeutic potential of phytochemicals in TBI therapeutics.

The Importance of α-Klotho in Depression and Cognitive Impairment and Its Connection to Glutamate Neurotransmission-An Up-to-Date Review

Depression is a serious neuropsychiatric disease affecting an increasing number of people worldwide. Cognitive deficits (including inattention, poor memory, and decision-making difficulties) are common in the clinical picture of depression. Cognitive impairment has been hypothesized to be one of the most important components of major depressive disorder (MDD; referred to as clinical depression), although typical cognitive symptoms are less frequent in people with depression than in people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder (BD; sometimes referred to as manic-depressive disorder). The importance of α-Klotho in the aging process has been well-documented. Growing evidence points to the role of α-Klotho in regulating other biological functions, including responses to oxidative stress and the modulation of synaptic plasticity. It has been proven that a Klotho deficit may contribute to the development of various nervous system pathologies, such as behavioral disorders or neurodegeneration. Given the growing evidence of the role of α-Klotho in depression and cognitive impairment, it is assumed that this protein may be a molecular link between them. Here, we provide a research review of the role of α-Klotho in depression and cognitive impairment. Furthermore, we propose potential mechanisms (related to oxidative stress and glutamatergic transmission) that may be important in α-Klotho-mediated regulation of mental and cognitive function.

Alkaloids as Natural NRF2 Inhibitors: Chemoprevention and Cytotoxic Action in Cancer

Being a controller of cytoprotective actions, inflammation, and mitochondrial function through participating in the regulation of multiple genes in response to stress-inducing endogenous or exogenous stressors, the transcription factor Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 (NRF2) is considered the main cellular defense mechanism to maintain redox balance at cellular and tissue level. While a transient activation of NRF2 protects normal cells under oxidative stress, the hyperactivation of NRF2 in cancer cells may help them to survive and to adapt under oxidative stress. This can be detrimental and related to cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance. Therefore, inhibition of NRF2 activity may be an effective approach for sensitizing cancer cells to anticancer therapy. In this review, we examine alkaloids as NRF2 inhibitors from natural origin, their effects on cancer therapy, and/or as sensitizers of cancer cells to anticancer chemotherapeutics, and their potential clinical applications. Alkaloids, as inhibitor of the NRF2/KEAP1 signaling pathway, can have direct (berberine, evodiamine, and diterpenic aconitine types of alkaloids) or indirect (trigonelline) therapeutic/preventive effects. The network linking alkaloid action with oxidative stress and NRF2 modulation may result in an increased NRF2 synthesis, nuclear translocation, as well in a downstream impact on the synthesis of endogenous antioxidants, effects strongly presumed to be the mechanism of action of alkaloids in inducing cancer cell death or promoting sensitivity of cancer cells to chemotherapeutic agents. In this regard, the identification of additional alkaloids targeting the NRF2 pathway is desirable and the information arising from clinical trials will reveal the potential of these compounds as a promising target for anticancer therapy.

NRF2 Activation by Nitrogen Heterocycles: A Review

Several nitrogen heterocyclic analogues have been applied to clinical practice, and about 75% of drugs approved by the FDA contain at least a heterocyclic moiety. Thus, nitrogen heterocycles are beneficial scaffolds that occupy a central position in the development of new drugs. The fact that certain nitrogen heterocyclic compounds significantly activate the NRF2/ARE signaling pathway and upregulate the expression of NRF2-dependent genes, especially HO-1 and NQO1, underscores the need to study the roles and pharmacological effects of N-based heterocyclic moieties in NRF2 activation. Furthermore, nitrogen heterocycles exhibit significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. NRF2-activating molecules have been of tremendous research interest in recent times due to their therapeutic roles in neuroinflammation and oxidative stress-mediated diseases. A comprehensive review of the NRF2-inducing activities of N-based heterocycles and their derivatives will broaden their therapeutic prospects in a wide range of diseases. Thus, the present review, as the first of its kind, provides an overview of the roles and effects of nitrogen heterocyclic moieties in the activation of the NRF2 signaling pathway underpinning their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions in several diseases, their pharmacological properties and structural-activity relationship are also discussed with the aim of making new discoveries that will stimulate innovative research in this area.

Recent Advances in Cellular Signaling Interplay between Redox Metabolism and Autophagy Modulation in Cancer: An Overview of Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Interventions

Autophagy is a fundamental homeostatic process in which certain cellular components are ingested by double-membrane autophagosomes and then degraded to create energy or to maintain cellular homeostasis and survival. It is typically observed in nutrient-deprived cells as a survival mechanism. However, it has also been identified as a crucial process in maintaining cellular homeostasis and disease progression. Normal cellular metabolism produces reactive oxygen (ROS) and nitrogen species at low levels. However, increased production causes oxidative stress, which can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurological disorders, and cancer. It was recently shown that maintaining redox equilibrium via autophagy is critical for cellular responses to oxidative stress. However, little is understood about the molecular cancer processes that connect to the control of autophagy. In cancer cells, oncogenic mutations, carcinogens, and metabolic reprogramming cause increased ROS generation and oxidative stress. Recent studies have suggested that increased ROS generation activates survival pathways that promote cancer development and metastasis. Moreover, the relationship between metabolic programming and ROS in cancer cells is involved in redox homeostasis and the malignant phenotype. Currently, while the signaling events governing autophagy and how redox homeostasis affects signaling cascades are well understood, very little is known about molecular events related to autophagy. In this review, we focus on current knowledge about autophagy modulation and the role of redox metabolism to further the knowledge of oxidative stress and disease progression in cancer regulation. Therefore, this review focuses on understanding how oxidation/reduction events fine-tune autophagy to help understand how oxidative stress and autophagy govern cancer, either as processes leading to cell death or as survival strategies for maintaining redox homeostasis in cancer.

Nrf2 Pathway in Huntington's Disease (HD): What Is Its Role?

Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease that occurs worldwide. Despite some progress in understanding the onset of HD, drugs that block or delay symptoms are still not available. In recent years, many treatments have been proposed; among them, nuclear transcriptional factor-2 (Nrf2) enhancer compounds have been proposed as potential therapeutic agents to treat HD. Nrf2 triggers an endogenous antioxidant pathway activated in different neurodegenerative disorders. Probably, the stimulation of Nrf2 during either the early phase or before HD symptoms' onset, could slow or prevent striatum degeneration. In this review, we present the scientific literature supporting the role of Nrf2 in HD and the potential prophylactic and therapeutic role of this compound.
