Abstract
BACKGROUND The monocyte-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (MHR) serves as an integrated indicator of the pro-inflammatory role of monocytes and anti-inflammatory properties of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C). Research has shown that the MHR is associated with the onset and prognosis of some diseases. However, no study has examined the link between the MHR and prognosis of populations with asthma. METHODS This study included data from 2,023 participants with asthma from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). This survey applied various statistical models, such as Cox proportional hazards, restricted cubic spline (RCS), threshold effects analysis (TEA), Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, and survival area plots, to assess the correlation between the MHR and mortality in participants with asthma. RESULTS According to the Cox hazard models, the MHR and mortality were positively correlated (hazard ratio: 1.93, 95% confidence interval: 1.20-3.11). Additionally, the RCS and TEA demonstrated a positive and linear relationship between the MHR and mortality. Participants with asthma who had a decreased MHR had better survival, compared with those who had an elevated MHR, as per the Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and survival area plots. CONCLUSIONS This longitudinal investigation indicated that an increased MHR was associated with elevated mortality in individuals with asthma. Therefore, the MHR may serve as an independent biomarker for predicting the prognosis of individuals with asthma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigated the relationship between Chronic spontaneous urticaria and atherogenic dyslipidemia. METHODS The study retrospectively screened 203 patients diagnosed with CSU and 182 healthy controls between January 2017 and January 2024. We compared the weight of the atherogenic component in the cholesterol components of patients with CSU. The same comparisons were made in patients and control groups when those with total lipid levels below ≤ 200 mg/dL were selected. RESULTS Atherogenicity markers such as Atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) (p<0.001), remnant lipoproteins (p<0.001), non-HDL-C (p=0.031), and non-HDL to HDL-C ratio (p=0.043) values were higher in the CSU group compared to the healthy control group. While this situation was similar in the female gender, statistical significance remained only for AIP (p=0.004) and remnant lipoproteins (p=0.043) among these parameters in males. While there was statistical significance for AIP (p=0.004) and remnant lipoproteins (p=0.043) in patients with total cholesterol levels ≤ 200 mg/dL, no significant differences were detected for the markers non-HDL-C (p=0.545) and non-HDL-C to HDL-C (p=0.292). CONCLUSIONS Atherogenic lipids may be markers that may able to differentiate patients with the potential to develop CSU.

Abstract
Background Brain glucose hypometabolism has consistently been found in neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD). High blood glucose and HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) levels have also been linked to neurodegeneration and AD. However, there is limited understanding of the relationships between dementia-related risk factors in the brain and blood. Methods A linear mixed model was used to examine the relationship between blood glucose and HDL-C levels and the progression of brain hypometabolism, adjusting for APOE4 and other clinical covariates. The hypometabolic convergence index (HCI) was measured by fluorodeoxyglucose-18 (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) in participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). Data visualizations were generated to understand the joint effects of plasma glucose, HDL-C, and APOE4 on HCI. Results There were 336 individuals (781 observations), of whom 22.62% had AD. The majority were male (63.98%) and of white race, and 48.51% were carriers of APOE4. Over time, high blood glucose level was associated with the progression of brain glucose hypometabolism (β=0.33, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.64, p<0.05). A high plasma HDL-C level (β=1.22, 95% CI: 0.09, 2.35, p<0.05), more study visits (β=1.67, 95% CI: 1.37, 1.98, p<0.001), and being an APOE4 allele carrier (β=1.29, 95% CI: 0.15, 2.42, p<0.05) were also significant predictors of brain hypometabolism progression. APOE4 carrier status and number of visits account for the largest proportion of the variance from the fixed effects model. Random effects due to participant characteristics and fixed effects together accounted for 95.2% of the model variance. Subgroup analysis revealed that these effects were observed only in those without AD. Conclusion High plasma glucose levels facilitated the progression of brain hypometabolism. The effect was more prominent in the APOE4 double-carriers with elevated HDL-C. Elevated blood glucose may reflect systemic insulin resistance, which could impair brain glucose uptake, resulting in brain hypometabolism. Controlling blood glucose and HDL-C levels in APOE4 carriers may improve brain metabolism, potentially delaying the onset of dementia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Growing evidence demonstrates the importance of high- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in certain immune and allergy-mediated diseases. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate levels of high- and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and apolipoproteins A1 and B in sera from a cohort of patients presenting with hypersensitivity reactions. We further assessed the function of high-density lipoprotein particles as well as their involvement in the molecular mechanisms of anaphylaxis. METHODS Lipid profile determination was performed in paired (acute and baseline) serum samples from 153 patients. Thirty-eight experienced a non-anaphylactic reaction and 115 had an anaphylactic reaction (88 moderate and 27 severe). Lecithin cholesterol acyl transferase activity was assessed in patient sera, and we also evaluated macrophage cholesterol efflux in response to the serum samples. Last, the effect of anaphylactic-derived high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles on the endothelial barrier was studied. Detailed methods are provided in the Methods section in this article's Online Repository available at www.jacionline.org. RESULTS Serum samples from severe anaphylactic reactions show statistically significant low levels of HDL cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and apolipoproteins A1 and B, which points to their possible role as biomarkers. Specifically, HDL particles play a protective role in cardiovascular diseases. Using functional human serum cell assays, we observed impaired capacity of apolipoprotein B-depleted serum to induce macrophage cholesterol efflux in severe anaphylactic reactions. In addition, purified HDL particles from human anaphylactic sera failed to stabilize and maintain the endothelial barrier. CONCLUSION These results encourage further research on HDL functions in severe anaphylaxis, which may lead to new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by itching, epidermal barrier dysfunction, and an unbalanced inflammatory reaction. AD pathophysiology involves a dysregulated immune response driven by T helper-2 cells. Many factors, including reactive oxygen species (ROS), are involved in AD pathogenesis by causing cellular damage and inflammation resulting in skin barrier dysfunction. This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the role of natural molecules and antioxidant compounds, highlighting their potential therapeutic value in AD prevention and management. They include vitamin D, vitamin E, pyridoxine, Vitamin C, carotenoids, and melatonin. Some studies report a statistically significant association between antioxidant levels and improvement in AD, however, there are conflicting results in which antioxidant supplementation, especially Vitamin D, did not result in improvement in AD. Therefore, the clinical efficacy of these dietary nutritional factors in the treatment of AD needs to be further evaluated in clinical trials. Meanwhile, antioxidants can be incorporated into the management of AD patients in a personalized manner, tailored to the severity of the disease, comorbidities, and individual needs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lipid metabolism affects type 2 immunity; however, the association between plasma lipids and eosinophilic inflammation in humans is uncertain. This study analysed the relationship between plasma lipids and peripheral eosinophils and whether patterns differ with different body mass indexes (BMI). METHODS A cross-sectional survey including 62,441 healthy participants recruited from a regular health screening programme was conducted. Participants were divided into normal weight, overweight and obese subgroups according to BMI. RESULTS Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that elevated logarithmic-transformed eosinophil counts (log(EOS)) significantly correlated with high total cholesterol(TC), triglyceride(TG), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), and low high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C)levels in the overall population, as well as in men and women, while certain associations between peripheral blood eosinophil percentage and serum lipids varied by gender. These correlations existed across almost all BMI subgroups, and standardised β values decreased sequentially with increasing BMI. HDL-C had the most significant effect on eosinophils in obese women. Two-factor analysis of variance showed log(EOS) increased with higher BMI and hyperlipidemia whether in male or female and a synergistic effect exists of lipid levels (TG and LDL-C) and BMI in men. CONCLUSIONS Blood eosinophil counts were correlated with blood lipid levels and modified by body mass index status. The effects of lipid levels and body mass index on blood eosinophil counts were synergistic. Therefore, lipid metabolism may be involved in systemic eosinophil inflammation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Seasonal allergic rhinitis (SAR) is a chronic inflammatory disease for which the molecular mechanism is unclear. METHODS Whole blood, CD4+ T cells in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and CD4+ T cells in nasal mucosa from SAR-related datasets (GSE43497, GSE50223, and GSE49782) were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Differences in SAR-associated immune cell infiltration in the PBMCs were analyzed using the CIBERSORT algorithm. Differential gene expression analysis was conducted between different groups. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was performed using the clusterProfiler package to explore functional changes in signaling pathways. RESULTS There was a significant increase in the proportion of CD8+ T cells and a significant decrease in the proportion of neutrophils in the whole blood of SAR patients after allergen challenge compared to SAR patients after diluent challenge. This pattern was also found in SAR patients compared to healthy controls (HCs) by flow cytometry. The NF-κB and Toll-like receptor signaling pathways were enriched in SAR patients following allergen challenge. The expression of CD4+ T cell marker genes and associated cytokines significantly differed between allergen-treated SAR patients, diluent-treated SAR patients and HCs. We also observed heightened CD4+ T cell related genes, cytokines and pathways activation in the nasal mucosa region of SAR patients after allergen challenge. CONCLUSION Our analysis revealed that T cell receptor signaling pathways, T helper 1 (Th1) /T helper 2 (Th2) cell differentiation may contribute to the development of SAR. The present study is the first bioinformatic analysis to quantify immune cell infiltration and identify underlying SAR mechanisms from combined microarray data and provides insight for further research into the molecular mechanisms of SAR.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a chronic autoinflammatory skin disease associated with multiple comorbidities, with a prevalence ranging from 2 to 3% in the general population. Decades of preclinical and clinical studies have revealed that alterations in cholesterol and lipid metabolism are strongly associated with psoriasis. Cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-17), which are important in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, have been shown to affect cholesterol and lipid metabolism. Cholesterol metabolites and metabolic enzymes, on the other hand, influence not only the biofunction of keratinocytes (a primary type of cell in the epidermis) in psoriasis, but also the immune response and inflammation. However, the relationship between cholesterol metabolism and psoriasis has not been thoroughly reviewed. This review mainly focuses on cholesterol metabolism disturbances in psoriasis and their crosstalk with psoriatic inflammation.

Abstract
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an itchy dermatitis with multifactorial aetiology, chronic-recurrent course, and typical distribution of lesions according to the age, affecting the 10-20% of pediatric population. Patients with AD, including children, suffer from many metabolic comorbidities, including metabolic syndrome, being overweight, obesity, dyslipidaemia, and arterial hypertension, all of which had a prevalence that was demonstrated to be higher than in healthy patients. The association between AD and metabolic comorbidities is multifactorial and involves the deregulation of immune system. In fact, hypertrophic adipose tissue produces soluble adipokines involved in inflammation and immunity, which stimulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, responsible for a chronic low-grade inflammatory state and a higher predisposition to hypersensitivity reactions. Especially in pediatric population with AD, these metabolic disorders are usually underestimated and are associated with long term sequelae and an increased risk of a cardiovascular event, which may also occur later in adult age. Therefore, metabolic comorbidities should be carefully evaluated and early treated in children with AD, to minimize the long-term risk of cardiovascular events.

Abstract
Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO), the most frequent extrathyroidal manifestation of Graves' disease (GD), can lead to a significant decline in the quality of life in patients. Exosomes, which contain proteins, lipids and DNA, play important roles in the pathological processes of various diseases. However, their roles in Graves' ophthalmopathy are still unclear. We aimed to isolate exosomes and analyze the different exosomal proteins. Tear fluids were collected from twenty-four GO patients, twenty-four GD patients and sixteen control subjects. The numbers of tear exosomes were assayed using nanoparticle tracking analysis. A Luminex 200 kit and ELISA kit were used to confirm the different cytokine concentrations in serum. Extraocular muscle from GO patients and controls was extracted, and western blotting was used to assay the levels of Caspase-3 and complement C4A. Our study demonstrated that the number of tear exosomes differ from GD patients and control. The expression levels of cytokines, including IL-1 and IL-18, were significantly increased in the tear exosomes and serum from GO patients compared with GD patients and controls. The levels of the exosomal proteins Caspase-3, complement C4A and APOA-IV were significantly increased in GO patients compared to GD patients and controls. Orbital fibroblasts from GO patients showed significantly higher levels of Caspase-3 and complement C4A than those from controls. The levels of serum APOA-IV in GO patients were significantly higher than those in GD patients and controls. Specific proteins showed elevated expression in tear exosomes from GO patients, indicating that they may play important roles in GO pathogenesis.

Abstract
The association between dyslipidemia and psoriasis has been studied widely. However, which individual indicators of serum lipids determine an increasing risk of incident psoriasis is still underappreciated in prospective cohorts. On the basis of UK Biobank, we investigate the causal relationship between four serum lipids and incident psoriasis by Cox proportional hazard model and Mendelian randomization analysis. After adjusting for covariates, high-density lipoprotein deficiency (<1.0 mmol/l for men, <1.3 mmol/l for women) and high triglyceride level (≥1.7 mmol/l) at baseline were associated with 16.6% and 10.6% increased risk of incident psoriasis, respectively. The effects were more pronounced in women, with 16.9 and 19.7% additional risk of psoriasis, respectively. The effects in the younger group (aged <60 years) and obese group in women were also more pronounced. No similar effect was observed in low-density lipoprotein and total cholesterol. Our subsequent Mendelian randomization analysis reinforced the main finding that high-density lipoprotein deficiency and high triglyceride cause incident psoriasis genetically. In conclusion, serum high-density lipoprotein/triglyceride levels predict psoriasis, particularly in women, indicating a distinct role of lipids engaging in the pathogenesis of psoriasis modified by sex. More metabolic-targeted, sex-specific management of psoriasis is suggested in the future.

Abstract
Background Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder related to dyslipidemia, with decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Various cell types express phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) as well as cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). Their elevated levels among transgenic (Tg) mice led to reduced HDL and a higher risk of atherosclerosis (AS). This study examined whether elevated CETP and PLTP could aggravate psoriasis in a psoriasis vulgaris mouse model. Methods The back skins of CETP-Tg, PLTP-Tg, and C57BL/6 male mice, aged six to 8 weeks, were shaved for imiquimod cream (IMQ) (5%) treatment for five consecutive days. The clinical pathological parameters were rated independently using the modified target lesion psoriasis severity score. The skin sections stained with hematoxylin-eosin were scored by the Baker score. Epidermal thickening and differentiation and inflammatory factor infiltration were determined by immunohistochemistry. Inflammatory cytokine levels were measured using quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT–PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits. This work employed SPSS Statistics Version to conduct statistical analyses. Results In this study, CETP-Tg and PLTP-Tg mice had higher clinical and histological scores than wild-type (WT) mice. Immunohistochemistry of the epidermis and dermis revealed a high proportion of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) positivity within psoriatic skin lesions of CETP-Tg and PLTP-Tg mice compared with WT mice. Interferon-α (IFN-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, IL-17A, IL-17F, IL-22, and IL-23p19 mRNA levels increased within CETP-Tg and PLTP-Tg mice compared with WT counterparts. In comparison with WT mice, plasma tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) levels, rather than IL-6 levels, were increased in CETP-Tg and PLTP-Tg mice. Conclusions Elevated CETP and PLTP aggravate psoriasis in a imiquimod-induced mouse model.

Abstract
Respiratory allergies affect humans worldwide, causing extensive morbidity and mortality. They include allergic rhinitis (AR), asthma, pollen food allergy syndrome (PFAS), aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD), and nasal polyps (NPs). The study of respiratory allergic diseases requires new technologies for early and accurate diagnosis and treatment. Omics technologies provide the tools required to investigate DNA, RNA, proteins, and other molecular determinants. These technologies include genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. However, proteomics is one of the main approaches to studying allergic disorders' pathophysiology. Proteins are used to indicate normal biological processes, pathogenic processes, or pharmacologic responses to a therapeutic intervention. In this field, the principal goal of proteomics has been to discover new proteins and use them in precision medicine. Multiple technologies have been applied to proteomics, but that most used for identifying, quantifying, and profiling proteins is mass spectrometry (MS). Over the last few years, proteomics has enabled the establishment of several proteins for diagnosing and treating respiratory allergic diseases.

Abstract
Cholesterol, the main structural molecule of cell membranes, is involved in essential functions of the human body. Dyslipidemia is an established risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) that is observed even in childhood. To reduce the risk of CVDs in children, several clinical guidelines have been published for the management of pediatric dyslipidemia. However, pediatric dyslipidemia is also associated with several health problems other than CVDs. This article reviews the current data on dyslipidemia-related pediatric health issues. There is strong evidence that low serum vitamin D levels, asthma, and mental health problems may be associated with dyslipidemia in the pediatric population regardless of body mass index. This review also highlights the need for further large-scale population-based studies in the Korean pediatric population to establish effective strategies for promoting children's health.

Abstract
Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease linked to increased cardiovascular risk. Functional impairment of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) may contribute to excessive cardiovascular mortality in psoriasis patients. Anti-cytokine therapies with biologics have been efficiently used for the management of psoriasis, however little data is available on the effects of biologic anti-psoriatic therapies on the composition and functionality of HDL. Blood samples were taken from 17 healthy volunteers and from 27 real-world psoriasis patients at baseline (no therapy with biologics) and after short-term (3 to 6 months) and intermediate-term (1 to 2 years) therapy. The biologics used included anti-interleukin (IL)-12/23p40 (ustekinumab), anti-IL17A (secukinumab) or anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (etanercept or adalimumab) antibodies. We observed that in psoriasis patients at baseline, metrics of HDL function including cholesterol efflux capacity of apolipoprotein B-depleted serum (p = 0.021), paraoxonase (p < 0.001) and lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (p < 0.001) activities were impaired, when compared to controls. Unexpectedly, we observed that short- and especially intermediate-term therapy with biologics markedly reduced HDL cholesterol efflux capacity (p < 0.001) and rendered HDL pro-inflammatory (p < 0.001), but increased paraoxonase (p = 0.009) and lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (p = 0.019) activities. All biologics caused similar changes in HDL composition, subclass distribution and cholesterol efflux capacity. Our results provide evidence that anti-psoriatic therapy with biologic agents is associated with changes in HDL functionality, particle composition and subclass distribution.

Abstract
Lipoproteins interact with immune cells, macrophages and endothelial cells - key players of the innate and adaptive immune system. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles seem to have evolved as part of the innate immune system since certain HDL subspecies contain combinations of apolipoproteins with immune regulatory functions. HDL is enriched in anti-inflammatory lipids, such as sphingosine-1-phosphate and certain saturated lysophospholipids. HDL reduces inflammation and protects against infection by modulating immune cell function, vasodilation and endothelial barrier function. HDL suppresses immune cell activation at least in part by modulating the cholesterol content in cholesterol/sphingolipid-rich membrane domains (lipid rafts), which play a critical role in the compartmentalization of signaling pathways. Acute infections, inflammation or autoimmune diseases lower HDL cholesterol levels and significantly alter HDL metabolism, composition and function. Such alterations could have a major impact on disease progression and may affect the risk for infections and cardiovascular disease. This review article aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the immune cell modulatory activities of HDL. We focus on newly discovered activities of HDL-associated apolipoproteins, enzymes, lipids, and HDL mimetic peptides.

Abstract
High density lipoproteins (HDL) are heterogeneous particles composed by a vast array of proteins and lipids, mostly recognized for their cardiovascular (CV) protective effects. However, evidences from basic to clinical research have contributed to depict a role of HDL in the modulation of immune-inflammatory response thus paving the road to investigate their involvement in other diseases beyond those related to the CV system. HDL-C levels and HDL composition are indeed altered in patients with autoimmune diseases and usually associated to disease severity. At molecular levels, HDL have been shown to modulate the anti-inflammatory potential of endothelial cells and, by controlling the amount of cellular cholesterol, to interfere with the signaling through plasma membrane lipid rafts in immune cells. These findings, coupled to observations acquired from subjects carrying mutations in genes related to HDL system, have helped to elucidate the contribution of HDL beyond cholesterol efflux thus posing HDL-based therapies as a compelling interventional approach to limit the inflammatory burden of immune-inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
Background: previous studies reported the involvement of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation in the pathogenesis of inflammatory skin diseases. The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between oxidative stress and inflammation in children affected by atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease. Methods: levels of lipid hydroperoxides, total antioxidant capacity, and activities of the enzymes myeloperoxidase (MPO), PON1, and PON2/3 were investigated in 56 atopic pediatric patients, and compared with 48 sex-/age-matched healthy controls. Results: significantly higher levels of lipid hydroperoxides and lower values of total antioxidant potential were observed in the serum of AD children compared to that of the controls. Significant lower PON1 activities, and a significant increase in levels of MPO were observed in serum of patients, with a higher serum MPO level/PON1 paraoxonase activity ratio in patients compared to that in the controls. Significantly lower lactonase activity of PON enzymes was observed in polymorphonuclear cells isolated from AD patients. Statistically negative correlation was established between the activity of intracellular PON2/3 activity and ROS levels. Conclusions: our data confirmed that AD is associated with higher oxidative damage and a decrease in antioxidant defense. Moreover, alterations of extracellular and intracellular PON activity can promote lipoprotein dysfunction in AD patients.

Abstract
Cholesterol and other lipids carried by lipoproteins play an indispensable role in fetal development. Recent evidence suggests that maternally derived high-density lipoprotein (HDL) differs from fetal HDL with respect to its proteome, size, and function. Compared to the HDL of adults, fetal HDL is the major carrier of cholesterol and has a unique composition that implies other physiological functions. Fetal HDL is enriched in apolipoprotein E, which binds with high affinity to the low-density lipoprotein receptor. Thus, it appears that a primary function of fetal HDL is the transport of cholesterol to tissues as is accomplished by low-density lipoproteins in adults. The fetal HDL-associated bioactive sphingolipid sphingosine-1-phosphate shows strong vasoprotective effects at the fetoplacental vasculature. Moreover, lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 carried by fetal-HDL exerts anti-oxidative and athero-protective functions on the fetoplacental endothelium. Notably, the mass and activity of HDL-associated paraoxonase 1 are about 5-fold lower in the fetus, accompanied by an attenuation of anti-oxidative activity of fetal HDL. Cholesteryl ester transfer protein activity is reduced in fetal circulation despite similar amounts of the enzyme in maternal and fetal serum. This review summarizes the current knowledge on fetal HDL as a potential vasoprotective lipoprotein during fetal development. We also provide an overview of whether and how the protective functionalities of HDL are impaired in pregnancy-related syndromes such as pre-eclampsia or gestational diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
PURPOSE Although psoriasis (PsO) is highly associated with insulin resistance (IR), the role of PsO on activity of insulin secretion or its action in diabetic patients has not been explored. MATERIALS AND METHODS In-patient data on type 2 diabetes (T2D) with or without PsO from 2016-2019 in our hospital were analyzed. Data for 42 diabetic patients with PsO were compared with that of the control group (T2D only). Blood examinations with reference to the levels of fasting blood glucose, C-peptide, insulin, HbA1c, plasma lipids, lipoproteins, and kidney function were explored. HOMA-IR and HOMA-β models were established to explore IR and pancreatic β-cell function. RESULTS HOMA-IR level was significantly higher (P=0.0003<0.05) in patients with PsO compared with the controls. Although the durations of diabetes in patients with PsO were significantly shorter compared with that of patients with diabetes only (P=0.012<0.05), analysis of mean BMI, eGFR, plasma lipids, and lipoprotein showed no significant differences. Analysis of the level of fasting glucose and HOMA-β showed no statistical differences between the two groups. On the other hand, the levels of C-peptide of PsO group were significantly high in both fasting state (P=0.0182<0.05) and after glucose challenge (P=0.0011<0.01). CONCLUSION The findings of this study show that under the same fasting conditions, patients with PsO may have relatively preserved pancreatic β-cell function, and PsO significantly increases IR.
