Abstract
The slow healing of diabetic wounds remains a significant challenge. However, existing treatments often prove ineffective due to the complexity of diabetic wounds. The purpose of this study was to develop an injectable hydrogel loaded with natural polysaccharides to promote diabetic wound healing. Composite hydrogels containing different concentrations of Arctium lappa polysaccharides (ALP) were prepared. The differences in their microstructure, water content, degradation rate, rheological properties, biocompatibility, promotion of epidermal cell migration, and antibacterial properties were compared to determine the optimal ALP concentration. Additionally, a diabetic rat skin defect model was constructed to further validate the promoting effect of the ALP composite hydrogel. The results indicated that CMC/CBM/ALP hydrogels formed numerous dense and regular pores, and the addition of ALP improved the stability and water content of the gels. Among the various formulations, the composite hydrogel with 2 % ALP concentration exhibited superior biocompatibility, in vitro antibacterial properties, and effectively promoted the migration of HaCat epidermal cells. Compared to hydrogels without ALP, the ALP composite hydrogels accelerated the healing of skin wounds, promoted collagen deposition and vascularization, regulated M2 macrophage polarization, reduced inflammatory responses, and ultimately enhanced wound healing. Therefore, our study provided a feasible and effective polysaccharide-based hydrogel for treating diabetic wounds.

Abstract
Aspergillus carbonarius infection leads to black mold rot in table grapes, causes grape decay, reduces fruit quality and marketability, which produces significant economic losses. This study investigated the antifungal efficacy of chitosan-stabilized lemon essential oil nanoemulsion (LO-CNE) against A. carbonarius and black mold rot of table grapes. LO-CNE was prepared with a mean diameter of 130.01 ± 8.34 nm. LO-CNE exhibited superior antifungal activity, reduced spore germination and germ tube elongation, decreased the antioxidant enzyme activities in A. carbonarius; the minimal inhibitory concentration of LO-CNE was determined to be 30 mg/mL. LO-CNE reduced the occurrence of black mold rot by 63 % and lesion diameter by 56.78 % in table grapes compared to the control. At their peak activity level, the grapes treated with LO-CNE exhibited significantly enhanced antioxidant and defense-related enzyme activities. Specifically, polyphenol oxidase activity increased by 2.27-fold, peroxidase activity by 2.22-fold, superoxide dismutase activity by 0.68-fold, catalase activity by 1.61-fold, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity by 3.38-fold, and ascorbate peroxidase activity by 2.36-fold. The LO-CNE application reduced natural decay by 95 %, weight loss by 15 % compared to the control, and effectively maintained the quality parameters of table grapes. Therefore, LO-CNE can be considered an alternative disease-control agent for grape preservation.

Abstract
The present research investigates the effectiveness of nano-emulsified coatings (C-1, C-2, and C-3) in preserving the kiwifruit at a temperature of 10 ± 2 °C with 90-95 % relative humidity (RH) for 30 days. The nano-emulsions were prepared from varied carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) concentrations with different combinations of essential oils such as thyme, clove, and cardamom. Dynamic light scattering investigation with Zeta Sizer revealed that C-1, C-2, and C-3 nano-emulsions have nano sizes of 81.3 ± 2.3, 115.3 ± 4.2, and 63.2 ± 3.2 nm, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that the nanoemulsion of C-1 had homogenous spherical globules, C-2 had voids, and C-3 showed a non-porous structure with uniform dispersion. The X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that C-1, C-2, and C-3 nano-emulsion exhibited distinct crystallinity and peaks. The nano-emulsion C-1 had reduced crystallinity, while C-2 had lower intensity peaks, and C-3 had increased crystallinity. The results documented that compared to control kiwifruit samples, the samples coated with C-3 nano-emulsion have decreased weight loss, decay incidence, soluble solids, maturity index activity, ethylene production, total bacterial count, and increased titratable acid, and firmness attributes. The results of current research are promising and would be applicable in utilization in industrial applications.

Abstract
Purpose Essential oils from various plants have diverse therapeutic properties and are researched extensively. They have applications in medicine, aromatherapy, microbiology, agriculture, livestock, and the food industry, benefiting the population. Methods This systematic review followed the PRISMA verification protocol. The study focused on the anti-inflammatory effects, nutraceutical properties, antioxidant and antibacterial activity of essential oils in lemon, orange, cumin, cinnamon, coriander, rosemary, thyme, and parsley. We also looked at their presence in the diet, their effect, their mechanism of action on health, and the most important active compounds. The search was conducted in the PubMed database for the last 12 years of publications, including in vitro, in vivo, and online cell model tests. Results Essential oils have been shown to have multiple health benefits, primarily due to their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The mechanism of action of cinnamon oil alters bacterial membranes, modifies lipid profiles, and inhibits cell division, giving a potential benefit in protection against colitis. On the other hand, a significant improvement was observed in the diastolic pressure of patients with metabolic syndrome when supplementing them with cumin essential oil. The antimicrobial properties of coriander essential oil, especially its application in seafood like tilapia, demonstrate efficacy in improving health and resistance to bacterial infections. Cumin essential oil treats inflammation. Parsley essential oil is an antioxidant. Orange peel oil is antibacterial, antifungal, antiparasitic, and pro-oxidative. Lemon essential oil affects mouse intestinal microbiota. Thyme essential oil protects the colon against damage and DNA methylation. Carnosic acid in rosemary oil can reduce prostate cancer cell viability by modifying the endoplasmic reticulum function. Conclusion and discussion Essential oils have many therapeutic and antiparasitic properties. They are beneficial to human health in many ways. However, to understand their potential benefits, more research is needed regarding essential oils such as coriander, parsley, rosemary, cumin, and thyme. These research gaps are relevant since they restrict understanding of the possible benefits of these crucial oils for health-related contexts.

Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine volatile oil has a long history and possesses extensive pharmacological activity. However, volatile oils have characteristics such as strong volatility, poor water solubility, low bioavailability, and poor targeting, which limit their application. The use of volatile oil nano drug delivery systems can effectively improve the drawbacks of volatile oils, enhance their bioavailability and chemical stability, and reduce their volatility and toxicity. This article first introduces the limitations of the components of traditional Chinese medicine volatile oils, discusses the main classifications and latest developments of volatile oil nano formulations, and briefly describes the preparation methods of traditional Chinese medicine volatile oil nano formulations. Secondly, the limitations of nano formulation technology are discussed, along with future challenges and prospects. A deeper understanding of the role of nanotechnology in traditional Chinese medicine volatile oils will contribute to the modernization of volatile oils and broaden their application value.

Abstract
Fruits and vegetables (F&V) are highly perishable and have important contributions to nutritional and economic sustainability. Although the developing nations have shown an immense increase in the production of horticultural commodities, the post-harvest losses are significant and have an adverse impact on the resources, economy, and environment as well. Nanoemulsion-based carriers are recognized for their diversity, natural origin, and immense potential to restrict losses while boosting the functional attributes of produce. The recent findings attest to nanoemulsions potential for extending the shelf life, managing quality, and reducing the losses of the perishables for sustainable livelihood of the farmers. However, further studies are required to evaluate the biological fate, safety, or potential toxicity of the nanoemulsion-based edible coatings. This review precisely focuses on various matrices used in the production of nanoemulsions, fabrication methods, characterization techniques, and the use of natural emulsifiers instead of chemicals. The future research focus stresses on developing low-cost fabrication techniques for nanoemulsion, improvement of the transmission properties i. e gas transmission rate (GTR), water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), and enhancing the performance of monolayer, bilayer, and other composite nanoemulsion base films. This beyond reducing the postharvest losses shall also restrict burden of the food waste management and related environmental issues at the same time.

Abstract
Honeysuckle leaves are rich in bioactive ingredients, but often considered as agro-wastes. In this study, honeysuckle leaf extract (HLE) was added to the carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan/konjac glucomannan/gelatin composite edible film (CMKH). Compared to films without HLE addition (CMK), the water vapor barrier properties of CMKH slightly decreased, but the transmittance of the CMKH films in UV region (200-400 nm) as low as zero. The elongation at break of CMKH film was 1.39 ∼ 1.5 fold higher than those of CMK films. The DPPH and ABTS scavenging activity of CMKH-Ⅱ was 85.75% and 90.93%, respectively, which is similar to the equivalent content of Vc. The inhibition rate of CMKH-Ⅰ and CMKH-Ⅱ against Escherichia coli and Listeria monocytogenes were close to 90%, and the inhibition rate against Staphylococcus aureus were up to 96%. The results emphasized that the composite film containing 25% (v/v) HLE has potential application value in food preservation.

Abstract
Biological control of postharvest diseases has been proven to be an effective alternative to chemical control. As an environmentally friendly biocontrol agent, Bacillus subtilis has been widely applied. This study explores its application in kiwifruit soft rot and reveals the corresponding mechanisms. Treatment with cell-free supernatant (CFS) of Bacillus subtilis BS-1 significantly inhibits the mycelial growth of the pathogen Botryosphaeria dothidea and attenuates the pathogenicity on kiwifruit in a concentration-dependent manner. In particular, mycelial growth diameter was only 21% of the control after 3 days of treatment with 5% CFS. CFS caused swelling and breakage of the hyphae of B. dothidea observed by scanning electron microscopy, resulting in the leakage of nucleic acid and soluble protein and the loss of ergosterol content. Further analysis demonstrated that CFS significantly induces the expression of Nox genes associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) production by 1.9-2.7-fold, leading to a considerable accumulation of ROS in cells and causing mycelial cell death. Our findings demonstrate that the biocontrol effect of B. subtilis BS-1 CFS on B. dothidea is realized by inducing oxidative damage to the mycelia cell.

Microbial contaminations are responsible for many chronic, healthcare, persistent microbial infections and illnesses in the food sector, therefore their control is an important public health challenge. Over the past few years, essential oils (EOs) have emerged as interesting alternatives to synthetic antimicrobials as they are biodegradable, extracted from natural sources and potent antimicrobials. Through their multiple mechanisms of actions and target sites, no microbial resistance has been developed against them till present. Although extensive documentation has been reported on the antimicrobial activity of EOs, comparisons between the use of whole EOs or their active components alone for an antimicrobial treatment are less abundant. It is also essential to have a good knowledge about EOs to be used as alternatives to the conventional antimicrobial products such as chemical disinfectants. Moreover, it is important to focus not only on planktonic vegetative microorganisms, but to study also the effect on more resistant forms like spores and biofilms. The present article reviews the current knowledge on the mechanisms of antimicrobial activities of EOs and their active components on microorganisms in different forms. Additionally, in this review, the ultimate advantages of encapsulating EOs or combining them with other hurdles for enhanced antimicrobial treatments are discussed.

Abstract
Chlorogenic acid (CA) has a wide range of biological activities but the chemical structure is extremely unstable. In this study, CA was grafted onto a soluble oat β-glucan (OβGH) to improve the stability. Although the crystallinity and thermal stability of CA-OβGH conjugates reduced, the storage stability of CA significantly improved. The DPPH and ABTS scavenging ability of CA-OβGH IV (graft ratio 285.3 mg CA/g) were higher than 90 %, which is closed to activities of equivalent concentration of Vc (93.42 %) and CA (90.81 %). The antibacterial abilities of CA-OβGH conjugates are improved compared to the equivalent content of CA and potassium sorbate. Particularly, the inhibition rate of CA-OβGH for gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes) are significantly higher than that of gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli). The results demonstrated that covalent grafted CA with soluble polysaccharide is an effective strategy to enhance its stability and biological activities.

Abstract
Soft rot causes significant economic losses in the kiwifruit industry. This study isolated strain CTXW 7-6-2 from healthy kiwifruit tissue; this was a gram-positive bacterium that produced the red pigment pulcherrimin. The phylogenetic tree based on 16S ribosomal RNA, gyrA, rpoB, and purH gene sequences identified CTXW 7-6-2 as a strain of Bacillus subtilis. CTXW 7-6-2 inhibited hyphal growth of pathogenic fungi that cause kiwifruit soft rot, namely, Botryosphaeria dothidea, Phomopsis sp., and Alternaria alternata, by 81.76, 69.80, and 32.03%, respectively. CTXW 7-6-2 caused the hyphal surface to become swollen and deformed. Volatile compounds (VOC) produced by the strain inhibited the growth of A. alternata and Phomopsis sp. by 65.74 and 54.78%, respectively. Whole-genome sequencing revealed that CTXW 7-6-2 possessed a single circular chromosome of 4,221,676 bp that contained 4,428 protein-coding genes, with a guanine and cytosine (GC) content of 43.41%. Gene functions were annotated using the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) non-redundant protein, Swiss-Prot, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, Clusters of Orthologous Groups of proteins, Gene Ontology, Pathogen-Host Interactions, Carbohydrate-Active enZYmes, and Rapid Annotations using Subsystem Technology databases, revealing non-ribosomal pathways associated with antifungal mechanisms, biofilm formation, chemotactic motility, VOC 3-hydroxy-2-butanone, cell wall-associated enzymes, and synthesis of various secondary metabolites. antiSMASH analysis predicted that CTXW 7-6-2 can produce the active substances bacillaene, bacillibactin, subtilosin A, bacilysin, and luminmide and has four gene clusters of unknown function. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analysis verified that yvmC and cypX, key genes involved in the production of pulcherrimin, were highly expressed in CTXW 7-6-2. This study elucidates the mechanism by which B. subtilis strain CTXW 7-6-2 inhibits pathogenic fungi that cause kiwifruit soft rot, suggesting the benefit of further studying its antifungal active substances.

Abstract
Dimethomorph (DMM) is a broad-spectrum fungicide used globally in agricultural production, but little is known regarding the immunotoxicity of DMM in humans. In this study, the immunotoxicity of DMM on human Jurkat T cells was evaluated in vitro. The results indicated that the half-effective concentration (EC50) of DMM for Jurkat cells was 126.01 mg/L (0.32 mM). To further elucidate the underlying mechanism, transcriptomics based on RNA sequencing for exposure doses of EC25 (M21) and EC10 (L4) was performed. The results indicated that compared to untreated samples (Ctr), 121 genes (81 upregulated, 40 downregulated) and 30 genes (17 upregulated, 13 downregulated) were significantly differentially regulated in the L4 and M21 samples, respectively. A gene ontology analysis indicated that the significantly differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were mostly enriched in the negative regulation of cell activities, and a KEGG pathway analysis indicated that the DEGs were mainly enriched in the immune regulation and signal transduction pathways. A quantitative real-time PCR for the selected genes showed that compared to the high-dose exposure (M21), the effect of the low-dose DMM exposure (L4) on gene expression was more significant. The results indicated that DMM has potential immunotoxicity for humans, and this toxicity cannot be ignored even at low concentrations.
