Abstract
Introduction In recent years, biotherapy in orthopedics has become widespread, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been readily used to treat sports injuries and osteoarthritis. Production of freeze-dried PRP (PRP-FD) results in PRP that is in powder form, allowing it to be stored for long periods at room temperature. Using this technology, we have developed Valuable Platelet-Derived Factor Concentrate Freeze Dry (VFD). However, whether VFD contains sufficient levels of bioactive substances (BS) remains unknown and retains the same levels of BS during long-term storage. In this study, we examined whether VFD contains sufficient amounts of BS and whether they retain these BS levels during long-term storage. Methods Peripheral blood was collected from 10 healthy men (mean ± SD: 46.5 ± 15 years old) and various BS, including transforming growth factor β (TGF-β), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1), interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra), matrix metallopeptidase-9 (MMP-9), and interleukin-6 (IL-6), were compared between VFD and normal PRP samples, including both leukocyte-rich PRP (LR-PRP) and leukocyte-poor PRP (LP-PRP). VFD was prepared using two rounds of centrifugation. LP-PRP and LR-PRP were activated by freezing and thawing before measurement. To evaluate the effects of long-term storage, the BS of VFD purified from five professional football players was compared between baseline and 1 year after storage. Results In terms of the growth factors, the TGF-β and EGF levels were higher in LR-PRP than in VFD and LP-PRP (p < 0.05), while the bFGF levels were higher in VFD than in the LR-PRP and LP-PRP groups (p < 0.01). In terms of anti-inflammatory cytokines, the TIMP-1 level was lower in VFD than that in the other groups (p < 0.01), whereas the IL-1ra levels were higher in VFD than those in LP-PRP (p < 0.05) and lower than those in LR-PRP (p < 0.01). In terms of inflammatory enzymes and cytokines, the IL-1ra level was higher in VFD than that in LP-PRP (p < 0.05) and lower than that in LR-PRP (p < 0.01), whereas the IL-6 levels did not differ among the groups. Furthermore, the TGF-β, bFGF, TIMP-1, and IL-1ra levels were 5.61 → 3.38 (x103 pg/μL), 61.0 → 63.0 (pg/μL), 3.4 → 2.7 (x105 pg/μL), and 14.9 → 14.5 (x103 pg/μL) at baseline and 1 year later, respectively. No significant differences in the BS levels were observed between baseline and 1 year after storage. Conclusions The VFD samples prepared in this study exhibited higher levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines than LP-PRP and contained growth factor levels similar to LP-PRP and LR-PRP. In addition, the BS levels in VFD samples were maintained after one year of storage. These results suggest that VFD can be prepared and stored and may serve as a novel treatment strategy for sports injuries in high-risk groups, such as athletes.

Abstract
In the current study, the preservation effect of plasma-activated water (PAW), coconut exocarp flavonoids (CF) and their combination on golden pompano fillets during refrigerated storage was investigated with emphasize on the treating sequence. PAW effectively inactivated spoilage bacteria and inhibited total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) increase, while boosted the TBARS and carbonyl values. PAW+CF exerted synergistic effect on extending the period before total bacterial count and TVB-N content reaching acceptance limit than PAW or CF alone (P < 0.05). In addition, their combined treatment effectively reduced fillets discoloration and texture deterioration. Simultaneously, lipid and protein oxidation were significantly inhibited, which was comparable to CF. It was indicated that the treatment sequence of PAW and CF profoundly impact the preservation effect. Specifically, prior CF marinating followed by PAW was more effective than the opposite sequence. Thus, combination of CF followed by PAW served as promising technique for fish fillets preservation.

Abstract
Using fecal microbial community profiles through sequencing approaches helps to unravel the intimate interplay between health, wellness, and diet in wild animals with their environment. Ensuring the proper preservation of fecal samples before processing is crucial to ensure reliable results. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency of two different preservation methods, considering the following criteria: DNA yield, quality and integrity, and microbial community structure based on Oxford Nanopore amplicon sequencing of the V3-V4 region of bacterial 16S rRNA and protozoa 18S rRNA genes. Eighteen matched pairs of mammalian fecal samples were collected and transported in 99.8% ethanol and lysis buffer; processing occurred between 55 and 461 days post-collection. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to analyze quantitative measurements for paired samples. The A260/280 ratio, a measure of nucleic acid purity, was assessed descriptively for each media, and the Bartlett test evaluated dispersion of this ratio. A Fisher test was performed to compare the number of positive reactions for DNA extraction or PCR amplification of the 16S and 18S rRNA genes between both media. The concentration of total DNA and amplicons, as well as the number of reads obtained in sequencing, was significantly higher in the samples preserved with lysis buffer compared to ethanol, with magnitudes up to three times higher. Electrophoretic analysis of total DNA and amplicons further confirmed superior DNA integrity in lysis buffer preserved samples. The A260/280 values obtained using the lysis buffer were of optimal purity (mean: 1.92) and with little dispersion (SD: 0.27); on the other hand, the ethanol samples also presented an excellent average quality (mean: 1.94), but they were dispersed (SD: 1.10). For molecular studies using mammalian feces, the lysis buffer reagent proved to be a reliable solution for their collection, conservation, and storage.

Abstract
Climacteric bananas are susceptible to endogenous ethylene and temperature, resulting in dehydration, accelerated senescence and deterioration. The widely-used plastic cling films is particularly complicated due to their high consumption and non-degradability. Herein, this study proposed to fabricate a carboxymethyl cellulose/polyvinyl alcohol/pyrazoic acid (CPP) hydrogel for postharvest banana preservation. The hydrogel demonstrated excellent potential as a packaging film, including natural degradability (complete degradation within 50 days), high tensile performance, transparent visibility and biosafety. As a validation experiment, bananas in a 30 °C environment confirmed the effectiveness of CPP hydrogels in banana postharvest preservation. Compared with the blank control and CP hydrogel, CPP packaging film delayed the processes of browning, dehydration, softening, nutrients loss, ripening and senescence in bananas, thereby maintaining their commercial value. Accordingly, this study demonstrates the potential of hydrogel materials as an alternative strategy to climacteric fruit preservation and plastic film.

Abstract
The juice exudation of aquatic products oozes out during storage can influence storage quality. Herein, a novel basil essential oil liposome unidirectional water-conducting sustained-release preservation pads (BEOL/UCSP) were prepared with nylon mesh as water-conducting layer, basil essential oil liposome (BEOL) as sustained-release preservation layer, and diatomite and absorbent-cotton as water-absorbing layer. EL/UCSP, β-CL/UCSP, and BEO/UCSP were prepared after BEOL was replaced by eugenol liposome, β-caryophyllene liposome, and BEO. BEOL are microspheres with bilayer structure, had good storage stability, centrifugal stability, thermal stability, embedding capacity, sustained-release, and oxidation resistance, and the main components of preservatives had a synergistic effect on antibacterial properties. The pads without preservative can initially slow down quality deterioration. BEOL/UCSP can directionally absorb exudate and realize long-term sustained-release of preservative, has excellent antibacterial and antioxidant effect, and extended shelf life of Lateolabrax japonicus fillets from 6.0 days to 12.8 days. The BEOL/UCSP can provide technical theoretical support for preservation materials.

Abstract
The deterioration of fruit could reduce the shelf life, decreased marketability and substantial economic value. Thus, a safe, simple, economical and environmentally friendly preservation technology for fruit is of great significance. Here, the postharvest preservation technology was investigated with zinc-doped carbon quantum dots and chlorogenic acid (Zn-CQDs/CGA) composite. Zn-CQDs/CGA composite were synthesized, which exhibits superior antioxidant and antibacterial activities. The binding mechanism of the Zn-CQDs/CGA composite was investigated, which revealed that the bindings of two components were mainly driven by hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces to create a novel composite. The Zn-CQDs/CGA composite was applied to longan preservation and was found to significantly reduce the incidence of mildew spot, browning of fruit endocarp and pulp, as well as the degree of degradation of quality indexes. These results suggest that the Zn-CQDs/CGA composite has the potential for inhibiting browning and preserving the quality of longan during storage.

Abstract
Various edible polymers [sodium alginate, carboxyl methylcellulose, sodium oleate, liquid paraffin, pectin, pullulan, polyvinyl acetate, and shellac (SHE)] as potato-coating materials and their effect on extending the shelf life of potatoes when combined with an edible coating and UV-C irradiation treatments were evaluated. As a result of the characterization of the edible polymers, SHE was selected as the optimal coating material because it had the best moisture and light barrier properties. SHE coating successfully prevented the greening, respiration, and sprouting of potatoes caused by exposure to light and oxygen. Additionally, it reduced weight loss by inhibiting transpiration on the potato surface. While the SHE coating did not exhibit antimicrobial effects, a significant effect was observed when combined with UV-C irradiation. Abstract
Seafood, being highly perishable, faces rapid deterioration in freshness, posing spoilage risks and potential health concerns without proper preservation. To combat this, various innovative preservation and packaging technologies have emerged. This review delves into these cutting-edge interventions designed to minimize spoilage and effectively prolong the shelf life of fresh seafood products. Techniques like High-Pressure Processing (HPP), Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), bio-preservation, and active and vacuum packaging have demonstrated the capability to extend the shelf life of seafood products by up to 50%. However, the efficacy of these technologies relies on factors such as the specific type of seafood product and the storage temperature. Hence, careful consideration of these factors is essential in choosing an appropriate preservation and packaging technology.

Abstract
Food waste occurs frequently worldwide, though hunger and malnutrition issues have received global attention. Short-term spoilage of perishable foods causes a significant proportion of food waste. Developing simple, green, and low-cost strategies to preserve the freshness of perishable foods is important to address this issue and improving food safety. By using strawberries as the model perishable fruit, this study reported a pectin/carboxy methyl starch sodium (PC) based coating using epigallocatechin gallate-loaded eggshell powder (ES@EGCG) as the functional fillers. In comparison to PC coating, the PC-ES@EGCG coating displayed much-enhanced performance, such as enhanced mechanical (2 folds) and barrier (water vapor & oxygen) properties. This composite coating reduced the weight loss of strawberries from over 60% to around 30% after 7-day storage. Coated strawberries exhibit better freshness retention, which achieves the purpose of preserving strawberries during storage. This study provided a cost-effective and eco-friendly coating strategy for reducing food waste.

Abstract
Crab meatballs with more unsaturated fat tend to spoil. Ginger essential oil (GEO) with oxidation resistance was encapsulated into microcapsules (GM) by complex cohesion of mung bean protein isolate (MBPI) and chitosan (CS) in a ratio of 8:1 at pH = 6.4, encapsulation efficiency (EE) and payload (PL) of GM (D50 = 26.16 ± 0.45 μm) with high thermal stability were 78.35 ± 1.02% and 55.43 ± 0.64%. GM (0.6%, w/w) did not interfere with the original flavor of crab meatballs, and lowered values of pH, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and total bacteria counts (TBC) of the products than those spiked with GEO and the control. The prediction accuracy of the logistic first-order growth kinetic equation in line with TBC (2.84%) was better than that of zero-order and Arrhenius coupled equation based on pH (7.48%) and TBARS (5.94%), but all of them could predict the shelf life of crab meatballs containing GM stored at 4-25 °C.

Abstract
To investigate the efficacy of sodium alginate-konjac glucomannan (SA-KGM) films with anthocyanins (LRA) and tea polyphenols (TP) in meat, beef and grass carp were selected as representative meat products for preservation and freshness monitoring experiments at 4 °C. Concurrently, storage experiments of the films were conducted in this controlled environment. The results of the storage experiment showed that the films delayed meat spoilage by 2-4 days, nearly doubling the preservation time compared to the blank control. Additionally, the film exhibited significant capability to monitor the spoilage process of beef and grass carp. It was revealed by curve fitting analysis that there was a significant correlation between the color change of the film and the spoilage index of the meat. Throughout the storage experiment with the film, it was observed that moisture significantly influenced the microstructure and bonding situation of the films, thereby impacting their mechanical and barrier properties. However, the films were still able to maintain satisfactory physicochemical properties in general. The above findings were crucial in guiding the promotion of the film within the food preservation industry.

Abstract
Research on antioxidant biomarkers can generate profound insights into the defense mechanisms of fish larvae against different stressors and can reveal manipulation strategies for improved growth and survival. However, the number of samples to process and unavailability of required infrastructure in larval-rearing facilities limit the immediate processing, requiring the preservation of specimens. Silver pompano (Trachinotus blochii), a potential marine aquaculture species, shows a low larval survival rate due to poorly developed antioxidant mechanism. In this context, 39 storage conditions, including three storage temperatures and different buffers, were scrutinized to select the most suitable preservation strategy for five important antioxidant biomarkers of fish larvae, viz. catalase activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, measurement of lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione (GSH), and ascorbic acid contents. The paper proposes the optimum larval storage conditions for these five evaluated antioxidant biomarkers to generate similar results in preserved and non-preserved larval samples. Larval samples preserved in PBS at lower temperatures (- 20 °C and - 80 °C) are recommended for evaluating catalase activity and ascorbic acid content. Catalase activity can also be evaluated by preserving the larval samples at - 20 °C or - 80 °C without buffers. Larval samples held in PBS or without any buffers at - 20 °C and at - 80 °C were found to be suitable for SOD and GSH evaluation, respectively. Preservation in 50% glacial acetic acid at - 80 °C or - 20 °C was preferred for the lipid peroxidation assays. Apart from methodological perspectives, the paper provides insights into the dynamics of larval antioxidant profiles of T. blochii, for the first time.

Abstract
Chinese Oolong tea is widely known for its intricate aroma. However, the degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) poses significant challenges for the tea products. In this study, glutathione (GSH) has an excellent preservation effect on VOCs in both the VOCs extract and the tea infusion during storage, specifically slowing the degradation of hexanal (by 66.39% and 35.09%) and heptanal (by 67.46% and 63.50%). Additionally, the addition of GSH maintained higher levels of active ingredients in tea infusion, including epigallocatechin, procyanidin B1, glutamic acid, and L-(+)-arginine, with respective increases of 184.09, 2.92, 4.10, and 6.35 times. The sulfhydryl group of GSH formed a covalent bond with hexanal and 2-methylbutanal, therefore improving the stability of VOCs. These findings provided a valuable insight for developing effective VOC preservation techniques for water-based tea products.

Abstract
This study prepared and characterized sodium alginate and carrageenan (SAC) composite films incorporated with peanut shell flavonoids (PSFs). PSFs compound identification research was implemented. The physicochemical features of PSFs-SAC composite films and their ability to preserve chilled pork in a 4 °C refrigerator were determined. PSFs consist of luteolin, eriodictyol, 5,7-dihydroxychromone, and 8 other components. They significantly improved the mechanical properties, barrier properties, thermal stability, and antioxidant properties of SAC composite films (P < 0.05). PSFs were also responsible for increasing the density of the film structure between the sodium alginate and carrageenan molecules. During storage, compared with the control group, the prepared PSFs-SAC composite films did not allow the total viable count (TVC), pH and total volatile base nitrogen (TVB-N) of the chilled pork to increase rapidly. Further, they were able to inhibit lipid oxidation more effectively (P < 0.05). For these reasons, the use of the PSFs-SAC composite films prolonged shelf life of chilled pork from 6 days to the 12 days. Therefore, PSFs-SAC composite films are expected to be used as bioactive substances in food preservation.

Abstract
This study describes dehydration of agar containing cysts as a novel and inexpensive method for long-term storage of Acanthamoeba spp. collections at room temperature. Five hundred microliters of axenically cultured Acanthamoeba spp. trophozoites (106 cells/mL) in PYG media or 150 µl of amoeba suspension (106 cells or cysts/mL) from monoxenic plate culture was spread onto the surface of non-nutritive agar (NNA, 2-3-mm thick) without or with a layer of heat-inactivated Escherichia coli, respectively. The plates were sealed and incubated at 30 °C. After the encystment, the Parafilm® was removed, and the plates were kept at the same temperature until the NNA was completely dehydrated. The dehydrated cyst-containing NNA was cut in rectangles and stored in airtight tubes at room temperature for up to 3 years. Cyst viability was assessed by inoculating them in fresh NNA with a layer of E. coli and in PYG followed by incubation at 30 °C. One hundred percent of samples from all specimens (19) stored over the 3 years allowed new cultures to be re-established; however, two strains showed reduced viability, at 66.7% and 62.5%, after 2 years of room temperature storage. One hundred percent of the cyst samples produced axenically and maintained in dry NNA allowed the re-establishment of axenic cultures through direct incubation in PYG, with excystment occurring within 24 or 48 h. For the first time, we report the dehydration of cyst-containing agar as an economical and effective method for the long-term storage of Acanthamoeba spp. collections at room temperature. It enables the creation of large collections using reduced space and economical transport of Acanthamoeba strains, in addition to allowing better organization of the collection.

Abstract
Valvular heart disease affects 30% of the new-borns with congenital heart disease. Valve replacement of semilunar valves by mechanical, bioprosthetic or donor allograft valves is the main treatment approach. However, none of the replacements provides a viable valve that can grow and/or adapt with the growth of the child leading to re-operation throughout life. In this study, we review the impact of donor valve preservation on moving towards a more viable valve alternative for valve replacements in children or young adults.

Abstract
The present research investigates the effectiveness of nano-emulsified coatings (C-1, C-2, and C-3) in preserving the kiwifruit at a temperature of 10 ± 2 °C with 90-95 % relative humidity (RH) for 30 days. The nano-emulsions were prepared from varied carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) concentrations with different combinations of essential oils such as thyme, clove, and cardamom. Dynamic light scattering investigation with Zeta Sizer revealed that C-1, C-2, and C-3 nano-emulsions have nano sizes of 81.3 ± 2.3, 115.3 ± 4.2, and 63.2 ± 3.2 nm, respectively. The scanning electron microscopy images showed that the nanoemulsion of C-1 had homogenous spherical globules, C-2 had voids, and C-3 showed a non-porous structure with uniform dispersion. The X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that C-1, C-2, and C-3 nano-emulsion exhibited distinct crystallinity and peaks. The nano-emulsion C-1 had reduced crystallinity, while C-2 had lower intensity peaks, and C-3 had increased crystallinity. The results documented that compared to control kiwifruit samples, the samples coated with C-3 nano-emulsion have decreased weight loss, decay incidence, soluble solids, maturity index activity, ethylene production, total bacterial count, and increased titratable acid, and firmness attributes. The results of current research are promising and would be applicable in utilization in industrial applications.

Abstract
One of the most common life-saving medical procedures is a red blood cell (RBC) transfusion. Unfortunately, RBCs for transfusion have a limited shelf life after donation due to detrimental storage effects on their morphological and biochemical properties. Inspired by nature, a biomimetics approach was developed to preserve RBCs for long-term storage using compounds found in animals with a natural propensity to survive in a frozen or desiccated state for decades. Trehalose was employed as a cryoprotective agent and added to the extracellular freezing solution of porcine RBCs. Slow cooling (-1 °C min-1) resulted in almost complete hemolysis (1 ± 1 % RBC recovery), and rapid cooling rates had to be used to achieve satisfactory cryopreservation outcomes. After rapid cooling, the highest percentage of RBC recovery was obtained by plunging in liquid nitrogen and thawing at 55 °C, using a cryopreservation solution containing 300 mM trehalose. Under these conditions, 88 ± 8 % of processed RBCs were recovered and retained hemoglobin (14 ± 2 % hemolysis). Hemoglobin's oxygen-binding properties of cryopreserved RBCs were not significantly different to unfrozen controls and was allosterically regulated by 2,3-bisphosphoglycerate. These data indicate the feasibility of using trehalose instead of glycerol as a cryoprotective compound for RBCs. In contrast to glycerol, trehalose-preserved RBCs can potentially be transfused without time-consuming washing steps, which significantly facilitates the usage of cryopreserved transfusible units in trauma situations when time is of the essence.

Abstract
Based on the key factor of spontaneous modified atmosphere packaging (MAP)-gas permeability, a spontaneous MAP film was created for the preservation of Agaricus bisporus by delaying the senescence of white mushrooms. Compared with other mixed films, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)/pueraria (P)-2 showed better mechanical properties, barrier properties and thermal stability energy. Applying the HPMC/P-2 film for preserving white mushrooms can spontaneously adjust the internal gas environment. Moreover, the O2 concentration in the package remained stable at 1-2 %, and the CO2 concentration was between 8 % and 14 %. The film can effectively reduce the respiration rate of white mushrooms, inhibit enzymatic browning, maintain their good color and texture, and delay their aging. In conclusion, the HPMC/P-2 film can be used not only for fruit and vegetables preservation but also provide theoretical basis for sustainable food packaging.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dorsal aesthetic lines and irregularities are the most critical points that can be manipulated in rhinoplasty operations. Although spreader grafts and flaps have been used for this purpose in the reconstruction of the keystone area for a long time, dorsal irregularity is often inevitable. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of dorsal septal T flap and nasal dorsum reconstruction in achieving ideal dorsal aesthetic lines and regularity. METHODS Thirty-four patients (30 women, 4 men) who underwent closed technique rhinoplasty between 2019 and 2021 were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 25.4 years. Patients with crooked nose, severe deviation, and severe dorsal hump were also excluded. All patients included in the study underwent Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) questionnaires preoperative and postoperative 1st year. RESULTS The mean age of the patients was 25.4 years (range 18-40 years). A total of 34 patients, including 30 women and four men, were operated. The mean follow-up period was 13.2 months, ranging from 12 to 14 months. In the physical examinations performed at the control visits, no functional problem was encountered in any patients. Preoperative and postoperative mean ROE scores were 60.9 and 92.7, respectively. CONCLUSIONS With the technique described in the study, dorsal hump recurrence is minimized compared to other preservation techniques. Since the keystone area transition can be fine-tuned, continuity is ensured, and ideal dorsal aesthetic lines are created. The stability of the upper lateral cartilages is provided, thus eliminating the need for spreader grafts. Abstract
Serpentinization is a well-known aqueous alteration process that may have played important roles in the origins and early evolution of life on Earth, and perhaps Mars, but there are still aspects related to biomarker distribution, partitioning, and preservation that merit further study. To assess the role that precipitation of carbonate phases in serpentinization settings may have on biomarker preservation, we search for life signs in one of the world's largest outcrops of subcontinental peridotites (Ronda, South Spain). We investigate the organic record of groundwater and associated carbonate deposits (travertines) in seven hyperalkaline springs, and reconstruct the biological activity and metabolic interactions of the serpentinization-hosted ecosystem. We identified lipid biomarkers and isotopic evidences of life, whose concentration and variety were much lower in groundwater than travertine deposits (ppb/ppt versus ppm level). Groundwater carried organics of abiotic (n-alkanes with values of CPI ∼ 1) and/or biotic origin, of fresher (e.g. acids or alcohols) or more diagenetized (mature hopanes and n-alkanes) nature. In contrast, associated travertines held a more prolific record of biomarkers incorporating (molecular and isotopic) fingerprints of surface (mostly phototrophs) and subsurface (chemolithotrophs, methanogens and/or methanotrophs) life. Serpentinization-associated travertines seem to act as biomolecule archives over time fed by autochthonous and allochthonous sources, hence amplifying the dim biological signal of groundwater. These results illustrate the relevance of serpentinization-associated surface mineral deposits in searching for traces of life on analogous environments on Mars. We highlight the diversity of lipids produced in serpentinizing land environments and emphasize the potential of these geostable biomolecules to preserve fingerprints of life.

Abstract
This experiment was conducted with the objectives of developing bilayer nanofiber mats based on potato starch-turnip peel extract (PS-TPE) and guar gum-cinnamaldehyde (GG-CA) for freshness monitoring and enhancing the quality of lamb meat during cooled storage conditions. Encapsulating CA/TPE into the nanofibers resulted in reduced tensile strength, water vapor permeability, moisture content, and water solubility. Colorimetric nanofibers, including PS-GG-TPE 6%, PS-GG-TPE 6%-CA 0.5%, and PS-GG-TPE 6%-CA 1%, presented red color at pH 1-4, purplish red at pH 5-7, green at pH 8-10, and brown at pH 11-12. The color of PS-GG-TPE 6% nanofiber mats changed from white to purplish red, signaling that the lamb meats had turned from fresh to spoiled. PS-GG-CA 1%, PS-GG-TPE 6%-CA 0.5%, and PS-GG-TPE 6%-CA 1% nanofibers have the potential to be utilized to control the growth of spoilage-related microorganisms for extending the shelf-life of fresh lamb meat under cooled storage conditions up to 13 days.

Abstract
Scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) male gonad hydrolysates (SMGHs)/κ-carrageenan (KC)/KCl beads with SMGHs:KC ratios (0:10-5:5) were investigated. SMGHs/KC/KCl-Cur bead (5:5) exhibited the most intact spherical morphology and highest Cur loading content of 0.063 mg/0.1 g bead, ascribing to a shortened T23 from 1607.9 to 966.4 ms, and red and blueshifts of OH, NH, amide I and II bands. The undetected fingerprint region within 7.82°-28.90° of SMGHs/KC/KCl-Cur beads indicated successful Cur entrapment. Moreover, SMGHs/KC/KCl-Cur beads exhibited shrinkage network backbones and larger void pores as SMGHs increased, with vessel percentage area, total number of junctions, total vessel length decreasing from 52.1, 1446.8, 57931.4 to 39.7, 530.5, 34458.4, and lacunarity increasing from 0.048 to 0.111, respectively. Furthermore, Cur showed approximately 50% release contents in colon phase and above 90% retention rate during 30 days of storage at 4 °C. These results suggested that SMGHs/KC/KCl-Cur beads exhibited sustained-release of Cur and promised stable Cur preservation.

Abstract
The most popular surgical treatment for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries is reconstruction. However, different native tissue preservation and repair techniques have recently become popular. Among the different types of ACL injuries, the least frequent is the tibial-sided soft-tissue avulsion type. Which can be managed with primary repair as an alternative to reconstruction. However, there aren't many procedures reported for treating these rare injuries. As a result, a repair technique is presented using a suture anchor in the tibial footprint with a double-row construct. We present a prospective intervention cohort of two cases where this procedure was used with adequate clinical evolution and stable fixation at 24 months of follow-up. Likewise, there were no complications or reinterventions performed during follow-up. To our knowledge, this technique had not been reported before in the literature for these lesions and combines the benefits of using a suture anchor with a double-row construct and preserves the native tissue and ACL insertion site. Therefore, in these uncommon lesions, a double-row suture anchor technique can be useful to repair acute distal soft tissue avulsion-type ACL injuries.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The pterional approach is the workhorse of skull-base neurosurgery, which allows virtual access to any intracranial lesion around the circle of Willis. Preserving the frontotemporal branch of the facial nerve and conserving the temporal muscle's symmetry are fundamental objectives besides the access that can be obtained through this versatile neurosurgical technique. This manuscript proposes a subgaleal preinterfascial dissection, a novel hybrid technique that provides advantages of previously described temporal muscle dissection techniques while preserving the integrity of facial nerve branches and the unobstructed broad pterional region. We describe the subgaleal preinterfascial dissection as a safe and simple to technique to achieve preservation of the facial nerve frontal branches during anterolateral approaches. METHODS Two cadaveric heads were skillfully dissected and studied to perform a proper subgaleal preinterfascial dissection on both sides of each cadaver. Afterward, the same technique was employed in 108 patients during a pterional approach for different neurosurgical diseases, with a postoperative follow-up of 6 months. RESULTS None of the 108 patients presented postoperative frontotemporal branch palsy during postoperative follow-up. Likewise, no complications related to the proposed technique were present. CONCLUSIONS The subgaleal preinterfascial dissection is a reliable, safe technique that may be employed during a pterional approach with an unobstructed surgical view and excellent cosmetic and functional results, preserving the frontotemporal branch of the facial nerve.

Abstract
In this research, the synergistic influences of UV light and relative humidity on the structure and immediate triggered release abilities of microcapsules loaded with oregano essential oil (OEO) were investigated. The microcapsules sufficiently were encouraged to release OEO by UV irradiation and regulated by ambient humidity. Relatively low humidity from 23 to 58% had no impact on the encapsulation efficiency and release processes of microcapsules in food simulations and air significantly. Analysis of microstructure showed that UV irradiation and higher relative humidity were conducive to fracturing glycosidic bonds of microcapsule shell through hydroxyl radicals generated by TiO2 and vapour. Finally, microcapsules were applied to the preservation of chicken breasts for 6 d and the results showed that chicken breasts with microcapsules that had been irradiated by UV light at 76 %RH would have better quality and the shelf life was extended, which evidenced its excellent foreground in meat preservation.

Abstract
Natural preservatives are causing a rethinking of current preservation means. As a sweetener resource, exploitation of Stevia rebaudiana leaves (SRLs) is still restricted due to human conventional cognition. Herein, Lactobacillus plantarum fermented SRLs containing diverse free secondary metabolites derived from microbial deglycosylation and bioenzymatic decomposition were investigated. The apparent resistance to typical foodborne bacteria (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomoas aeruginosa, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens) by fermented SRLs and their extracts were validated. The metabolite diversity and in-depth organic solvent extraction gave the possibilities for better antimicrobial actions, anti-HepG2/SGC-7901 cells in vitro in contrast with aqueous extract of unfermented SRLs. Crucially, compound identification and attribution revealed that fermentation products may be maximally contributing to antimicrobial and antitumor mechanisms rather than intrinsic plant and/or microbial components. Additionally, pork sausage models with 15 g/kg ethyl acetate extract as a preservative candidate presented preferred storage characteristics (21 days and 37 °C) compared to those without ethyl acetate extract, e.g. the minimal total plate count (3.86 ± 0.27 log CFU/g), peroxsignide value (8.02 ± 0.92 meq/kg), and acid value (2.01 ± 0.04 (KOH)/(mg/g)).

Abstract
There are remarks on diverse types of timber structures in the tropics. This paper examines several case histories in Sri Lanka, focusing on the culturally varied and ecologically diverse traditional buildings with wood used for construction. The main objective was to gather data and document the knowledge on wood preservation. Information was gathered through face-to-face interviews with 270 individuals' reference to 138 structures. A holistic analysis was performed to understand the techniques used to overcome the degradation mechanisms and state of conservation. The demographic profile of the informants was evaluated and cross-relationships on the tabulated data were analyzed by SPSS statistical software following the snow-balling sampling technique. There were three main preservation techniques identified from the open-ended questions namely, wood kept under smoke pits, wood kept under paddy field mud, and wood kept under the river banks. Preserving wood by keeping it under paddy field mud (49.62 %) was the highest recorded answer. The most obtained material matrix of preservation was plant origins (48.88 %). For generations, people have transmitted traditional and cultural practices through oral knowledge. The results conclude this knowledge places a high value on protecting construction technologies and applications while preserving biodiversity. Unfortunately, by today this technology has started extinct. The results revealed the importance of social norms and cultural perceptions as a set of valuable information that was practiced with a great history in a tropical country.

Abstract
The eco-friendly fishing gears (EFFGs) have been widely suggested as fishing gears for sustainable blue economy development. This study aims to examine the effects of the utilization of the EFFGs of blue swimming crab (BSC) on fishermen's welfare and sustainable fisheries by taking Indonesia as a case study. The number of fishermen randomly sampled was 647. The method used to analyze the data was the Endogenous Switching Regression model. The results showed that factors that have significant positive effects on fishermen's decision to adopt the EFFGs are the membership of fishermen in fisheries groups, credit access to financial sources, decision synchronization, financial capability, and fishers' perception of environmental uncertainty. Meanwhile, the complexity of fishing gears and buyer pressure have significant negative effects on fishermen's decisions to adopt EFFGs. The results also confirmed that the welfare of BSC's fishermen is better off and received positive benefits for the preservation and regeneration of resources by using the EFFGs compared to the non-EFFGs. Therefore, the application of the EFFGs for BSC fisheries supports the sustainable blue economy development goals and needs to be recommended for other coastal areas in developing countries.

Abstract
This study purposed to develop konjac glucomannan (KGM) based antimicrobial coatings containing Litsea cubeba essential oil nanoemulsion (LNE) for citruses preservation. Physical stability, rheological, structural and antimicrobial properties of the coating solutions were investigated, along with the release characteristics of Litsea cubeba essential oil (LCO). Results showed that the coating solutions displayed shear thinning behavior. The oil droplets were distributed homogeneously in KGM phase with good stability. The coating structure became loose with increasing LNE content due to LNE interfering with molecular interactions and entanglement of KGM. The coating solutions showed stronger antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli than against Staphylococcus aureus and were effective in inhibiting the growth of Penicillium italicum on citrus surfaces. KGM-LNE 10 negatively affected citruses due to phytotoxicity caused by high levels of LCO. LCO was released slowly and continuously from the coatings, and its release was faster in deionized water than in an ethanol-water solution. KGM-LNE 2.5 coated citruses had the least weight loss, the greatest hardness, and kept the minimum changes in total soluble solids, total acid and vitamin C content, implying that KGM-LNE 2.5 best maintained the quality of citruses. The findings suggest that KGM-based coatings containing LNE have high potential for citruses preservation.

Abstract
The current work aims to produce nanoparticle-infused starch-based bioactive thermoplastic packaging films. The FeO and ZnO nanoparticles were examined to be potential active ingredients for the production of nanoparticle-infused bioactive thermoplastic packaging films. The bio-thermoplastic films infused with FeO and ZnO nanoparticles showed high oxygen scavenging and antimicrobial activity, respectively. Consecutively, both films were combined to form a double-layer Nano-Biothermoplastic packaging system for food preservation. The distribution and diffusion of nanoparticles in starch-based films were examined to be influenced by the amorphous character of starch and the swelling index of the film, respectively. The amorphous property of starch molecules showed a masking effect on the crystalline characteristics of nanoparticles in Nano-Biothermoplastic films. The diffusion of nanoparticles from the Nano-Biothermoplastic packaging system was found to influence the microbial, chemical, and color characteristics of mutton and chicken meat stored at 4 °C.

Abstract
Developing safe, eco-friendly, and functionally edible packaging materials has attracted global attention. Essential oils, can be incorporated into packaging materials as antioxidant and antibacterial agents. However, their high volatility and discontinuous film matrix issues may cause a rough film surface, limiting the application in food packaging. In this study, thyme essential oil microemulsion (TEO-M) was prepared and incorporated into a pullulan-sodium alginate (PS) film. The TEO-M incorporation endowed the PS film with antioxidant and UV protection properties. The antioxidant activities of the TEO-M-incorporated PS film were significantly better than those of the TEO-C (thyme essential oil coarse emulsion)-incorporated PS film. In comparison to TEO-C, the distribution of TEO-M in the film is more uniform. Lipid oxidation and the growth of microorganisms in chilled pork were inhibited by incorporating TEO-M at a concentration of 50 mg/mL in the PS film (PS-50M). After 10 days of storage at 4 °C, the total viable count (TVC) of chilled pork preserved in the PS-50M material was significantly reduced compared to the control group (P < 0.05). This study shows that incorporating TEO-M in the PS film provides a method for applying essential oils in food packaging, which may have great potential in the food industry.

Abstract
Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) composite films with the addition of mesoporous silica nanoparticles MSN (0, 2, 4 and 6 wt%) loaded with 10 wt% citral (CIT) were prepared for application in Chanterelles packaging. Composite films with added MSN/CIT showed good mechanical properties, especially 4MSN/CIT/PLA. Changes in physicochemical properties and bacterial flora of Chanterelles during packaging and storage were tested. Compared with CIT/PLA, Chanterelles packed with 4MSN/CIT/PLA showed about 1.62-times lower browning value, 1.53-times lower electrolyte permeability, and 1.83- and 1.78-times lower PPO and POD, respectively, at 12 day. Better physicochemical properties of Chanterelles can be maintained. For bacterial flora changes, Chanterelles packaged with 4MSN/CIT/PLA had more stable flora (p < 0.05) and lower species diversity during storage (p < 0.05), effectively controlling the growth and reproduction of their dominant spoilage bacteria (Enterobacteriaceae spp). In conclusion, the composite membranes obtained by the addition of MSN/CIT to PLA have great potential in the storage of Chanterelles.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Surgical management of parotid pleomorphic adenoma ranges from total parotidectomy to extracapsular dissection (ECD). Minimalistic techniques aim to preserve function and minimize the rate of recurrence. This study assesses functional, aesthetic, and disease control outcomes post-ECD through a sole transverse cervical incision for parotid pleomorphic adenoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS This longitudinal analysis enrolled 36 consecutive patients with pleomorphic adenoma who underwent ECD via a single cervical incision. Complications, satisfaction, salivary function, and tumor recurrence were evaluated. Salivary gland function was assessed using scintigraphy at 6 months post-surgery. RESULTS Tumors occurred in superficial (83%) or deep (17%) parotid inferior parts according to the European Salivary Gland Society level classification. The median tumor size was 2.8 cm (1.8-6.0 cm); the median operation time was 42 min (30-65 min). No tumor spillage or facial nerve injuries occurred. Facial nerve paralysis was only temporary in two (6%) patients, with minimal other complications. Operated parotid gland function matched the unoperated side. No recurrence was found during the median follow-up of 44 months (24-60 months). CONCLUSIONS ECD via a single transverse cervical incision is a safe approach for benign parotid tumors, yielding excellent functional and disease control outcomes. CLINICAL RELEVANCE These findings can provide clinically meaningful minimally invasive recommendations to treat pleomorphic adenoma with minimal complications.

Abstract
In order to improve the effectiveness of the active packaging, we aimed to develop an active packaging film with unidirectional sustained release, high barrier protection, and seamless attachment between the layers. An active film based on glutenin/tamarind gum loaded with the binary microemulsion of melatonin/pummelo essential oil (G/T-M-E) with sustained release and combination effects of internal and external layers was prepared. The outer barrier layer exerted an excellent protective barrier effect after adding (3-chloropropyl) triethoxysilane, which effectively reduced external interference and the ineffective diffusion of active substances in the inner layer. The effective attachment of melatonin and essential oil layer in the G/T-M-E film enhanced antioxidation, microorganism inhibition, and free-radical-scavenging properties, which effectively delayed the senescence of post-harvest white mushrooms. Furthermore, the G/T-M-E exhibited excellent tensile strength, barrier capacity, and load-bearing strength, which had a potential, positive effect on food preservation. Therefore, this film is highly recommended for packaging purposes.

Abstract
Ultrasound is a contemporary non-thermal technology that is currently being extensively evaluated for its potential to preserve highly perishable foods, while also contributing positively to the economy and environment. There has been a rise in the demand for food products that have undergone minimal processing or have been subjected to non-thermal techniques. Livestock-derived food products, such as meat, milk, eggs, and seafood, are widely recognized for their high nutritional value. These products are notably rich in proteins and quality fats, rendering them particularly vulnerable to oxidative and microbial spoilage. Ultrasound has exhibited significant antimicrobial properties, as well as the ability to deactivate enzymes and enhance mass transfer. The present review centers on the production and classification of ultrasound, as well as its recent implementation in the context of livestock-derived food products. The commercial applications, advantages, and limitations of the subject matter are also subject to scrutiny. The review indicated that ultrasound technology can be effectively utilized in food products derived from livestock, leading to favorable outcomes in terms of prolonging the shelf life of food while preserving its nutritional, functional, and sensory attributes. It is recommended that additional research be conducted to investigate the effects of ultrasound processing on nutrient bioavailability and extraction. The implementation of hurdle technology can effectively identify and mitigate the lower inactivation of certain microorganisms or vegetative cells.

Abstract
To solve undiscernible freshness changes of printed functional surimi while maintaining printed shape, 4D printable color-changing material were prepared. Firstly, based on results of printing properties and fresh-keeping of Ca2+-NS-L-surimi, it showed better printing effects (enhanced mechanical strength) and good preservation (inhibition of amino acids decomposition, bacterial growth). However, freshness changes of printed Ca2+-NS-L-surimi were not distinguished directly. To avoid that, 4D printable color-changing material-anthocyanin-hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose-xanthan gum-carrageenan (AHXK) was prepared for indicating freshness through discoloration. Printing results showed AHX with 5 % K had the most suitable mechanical strength (appropriate gel strength, texture, rheology) for printing. Based on that, AHXK had stable color (ΔE fluctuation <5) and was sensitive to pH and ammonia (obvious discoloration; ΔE > 10). Actual freshness monitoring results (co-printing of AHXK-surimi) exhibited significant discolorations, especially for HXK with 0.75 % A. It became green during refrigeration of 3-5 d (keeping fresh, ΔE < 4), brighter green at 7 d (decreased freshness, ΔE > 6), turned yellow at 9 d (spoilage, ΔE > 16), which were distinguished significantly with naked eyes rather than traditional freshness determining. In conclusion, printed AHXK-functional surimi exhibited good printing, preservation and nondestructive freshness monitoring, facilitating application of 3D printed functional surimi.

Abstract
Current methods of storing explanted donor livers at 4°C in University of Wisconsin (UW) solution result in loss of graft function and ultimately leads to less-than-ideal outcomes post transplantation. Our lab has previously shown that supplementing UW solution with 35-kilodalton polyethylene glycol (PEG) has membrane stabilizing effects for cold stored primary rat hepatocytes in suspension. Expanding on past studies, we here investigate if PEG has the same beneficial effects in an adherent primary rat hepatocyte cold storage model. In addition, we investigated the extent of cold-induced apoptosis through treating cold-stored hepatocytes with pan caspase inhibitor emricasan. In parallel to storage at the current cold storage standard of 4°C, we investigated the effects of lowering the storage temperature to -4°C, at which the storage solution remains ice-free due to the supercooling phenomenon. We show the addition of 5% PEG to the storage medium significantly reduced the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in plated rat hepatocytes and a combinatorial treatment with emricasan maintains hepatocyte viability and morphology following recovery from cold storage. These results show that cold-stored hepatocytes undergo multiple mechanisms of cold-induced injury and that PEG and emricasan treatment in combination with supercooling may improve cell and organ preservation.

Abstract
The natural ecosystems' replacement by farmland and the consequent biodiversity damage (BD) for agriculture are one of the principal concerns worldwide. The development of the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology involves enormous efforts to include BD parameters and develop a prospective LCA approach for future evaluations of production and technologies use. Thus, this work aims to determine the current impacts and estimate the future impacts in terms of damage to biodiversity caused by land occupation by agricultural commodities produced in Brazil, such as coffee, corn, oranges, and sugar cane, for the six ecoregions present in the country-Amazon, Atlantic Forest, Caatinga, Cerrado, Pampas, and Pantanal-in the 20-year period from 2015 to 2035. For this and to search for hotpots, we applied the indicators proposed by Chaudhary and Books (2018), for inventories whose functional unit is production per m2 of 1 kg of crop. Although the Cerrado is one of the ecoregions in which deforestation has advanced the most, it has the area/production ratio that has evolved the most. In contrast, Pampas and Caatinga, which are not seen as agricultural frontiers, increased their impacts. The most optimistic scenarios for the future have been those in regions considered agricultural frontiers; however, these are the regions where agriculture is more technologically developed, for example, coffee production in the Atlantic Forest and in the Cerrado. The results indicate that the technological development of agriculture can contribute to mitigating the impacts of damage to biodiversity in the future, and that the implementation of legislative and inspection measures is fundamental to supporting the correct use of the soil and preventing illegal soil change. Otherwise, in the future, we will see the increasing disappearance of species. Thus, we need researchers, farmers, and policy makers to move from development to conservation.

Abstract
Edible wild-grown mushrooms, plentiful in resources, have excellent organoleptic properties, flavor, nutrition, and bioactive substances. However, fresh mushrooms, which have high water and enzymatic activity, are not protected by cuticles and are easily attacked by microorganisms. And wild-grown mushroom harvesting is seasonal the harvest of edible wild-grown mushrooms is subject to seasonality, so their market availability is challenging. Many processing methods have been used for postharvest mushroom processing, including sun drying, freezing, packaging, electron beam radiation, edible coating, ozone, and cooking, whose effects on the parameters and composition of the mushrooms are not entirely positive. This paper reviews the effect of processing methods on the quality of wild and some cultivated edible mushrooms. Drying and cooking, as thermal processes, reduce hardness, texture, and color browning, with the parallel that drying reduces the content of proteins, polysaccharides, and phenolics while cooking increases the chemical composition. Freezing, which allows mushrooms to retain better hardness, color, and higher chemical content, is a better processing method. Water washing and ozone help maintain color by inhibiting enzymatic browning. Edible coating facilitates the maintenance of hardness and total sugar content. Electrolytic water (EW) maintains total phenol levels and soluble protein content. Pulsed electric field and ultrasound (US) inhibit microbial growth. Frying maintains carbohydrates, lipids, phenolics, and proteins. And the mushrooms processed by these methods are safe. They are the focus of future research that combines different methods or develops new processing methods, molecular mechanisms of chemical composition changes, and exploring the application areas of wild mushrooms.

Abstract
While food borne pathogens constitute a major public health problem world-wide, food post-harvest losses is considered to be the leading cause of hunger and malnutrition globally. Food irradiation is a process of preserving food in which food are exposed to appropriate doses of ionizing radiation in order to kill insects, molds and other potentially harmful microbes and allergens. The process involves carefully exposing food to a measured amount of ionizing radiation in a special processing room on a conveyor belt for a specified duration. The radiation sources could be gamma ray, electron beam or X-ray. The radiation doses could be high, low or medium depending on the products to be irradiated and the target organism to be eradicated. Irradiation technology has various applications including sprout inhibition in root and tubers, disinfestation in cereals and pulses, reduction or elimination of food borne pathogens in vegetables and animal products and delayed ripening of fruits. All these applications are intended to increase shelf life and eliminate food allegenicity. Despite consumer concern on the safety and quality of irradiated foods, it is gradually gaining acceptance due to increased awareness and the perceived safety and quality as symbolized by the Radura symbol. With the increasing acceptance and commercialization of food irradiation, it could play an important role in solving the problems of food insecurity and food borne illnesses in the world.

Abstract
Environmental RNA (eRNA) analysis is expected to infer species' physiological information (health status, developmental stage, and environmental stress response) and their distribution and composition more correctly than environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis. With the prospect of such eRNA applications, there is an increasing need for technological development for efficient eRNA detection because of its physicochemical instability. The present study conducted a series of aquarium experiments using zebrafish (Danio rerio) and validated the methodologies for capture, preservation, and extraction of eRNA in a water sample. In the eRNA extraction experiment, an approximately 1.5-fold increase in lysis buffer volume resulted in a more than sixfold increase in target eRNA concentration. In the eRNA capture experiment, although GF/F and GF/A filters yielded similar eRNA concentrations, a GF/A filter may be capable of passing through more volume of water samples and consequently collecting more eRNA particles, given the time required for water filtration. In the eRNA preservation experiment, the use of RNA stabilization reagent (RNAlater) allowed for stably preserving target eRNA on a filter sample at - 20 and even 4 °C for 6 days at least. Altogether, the findings enable the improvement of eRNA availability from the field and easily preserve eRNA samples without deep-freezing, which will contribute to the refinement of eRNA analysis for biological and physiological monitoring in aquatic ecosystems.

Abstract
These tests were carried out to find out how calcium and 1-MCP treatment affected the preservation of grapes, as grapes are highly susceptible to decay during post-harvest storage. The grapes were treated with 5 g/L calcium at the flowering stage, followed by 1 μL/L 1-MCP treatment after harvesting. When grapevines were treated with a combination of calcium and 1-MCP, the marketable fruit rate (At day 56 of storage, the 1-MCP + Ca2+ treatment group was still 93%, an increase of 29.03% compared to the control group.) and quality improved (At day 28 of storage, the VC content of the 1-MCP + Ca2+ treated group was 4.35 mg/100g, an increase of 25.01% compared to the control group.), while the fruit weight loss rate decreased (At day 56 of storage, the weight loss of the control group was 6.97%, an increase of 39.43% compared to the 1-MCP + Ca2+ treated group.). According to the experimental results, there are several reasons for this. First, in the early stages of fruit storage, the concentration of soluble pectin and soluble fiber, as well as the activities of pectinase and cellulase (related gene levels) were decreased. Secondly, the activity of antioxidant enzymes was increased, while MDA content was decreased. Third, during fruit storage, the respiratory intensity and ethylene release rate were reduced, as was the activity of energy metabolism enzymes. As a result, the aging and deterioration of the fruit during storage were delayed. Principal component analysis revealed that the calcium and 1-MCP combination therapy slowed the decline in grape berry quality, followed by the calcium-treated and 1-MCP-treated fruits. In contrast, grape berry quality declined the most rapidly in the control group.

Abstract
During surgeries of the posterior cranial fossa, sacrificing the superior petrosal vein (SPV) can enhance visualization of the operative field but may also lead to postoperative venous infarction with potentially fatal consequences. We previously proposed that the safety of SPV sacrifice depends on whether there are collaterals that can take on the venous flow of the SPV after its sacrifice. Here, we propose several practical strategies that may be able to evaluate the presence of collaterals to the SPV, so that the safety of SPV sacrifice can be assessed.

Abstract
The paper is focused on the analysis of the state and risks to Kawo Amado Kella's defensive wall cultural legacy in Wolaita, Ethiopia, and the effects of development project priority, modernity, religion, and globalization. The paper identified the current framework of documentation and conservation policies applied to cultural heritage. Value-based conservation strategies are stated as essential for sustainable heritage management. An efficient management of the defensive wall is stated as necessary to conserve, maintain, and restore heritage structures from any natural and manmade problems. The study used a qualitative ethnographic research approach. Purposive and snowball sampling procedures were utilized in this investigation. There were a total of 171 interviews conducted during all stages of the process. In total, there were 64 women. By being conserved, restored, and preserved, the cultural legacy of Kawo Amado Kella's defensive wall not only helped to preserve an ancient civilization but also contributed to the development of a distinct national and international culture.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recently, researchers have focused on the search for alternatives to conventional antibiotics. Antimicrobial peptides are small bioactive peptides that regulate immune activation and have antibacterial activity with a reduced risk of bacterial resistance. Porcine myeloid antibacterial peptide 37 (PMAP-37) is a small-molecule peptide with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity isolated from pig bone marrow, and PMAP-37(F34-R) is its analogue. In this study, PMAP-37(F34-R) was recombinantly expressed in Pichia pastoris, and the recombinant peptide was further investigated for its antibacterial properties, mechanism and preservative in plums. RESULTS To obtain a Pichia pastoris strain expressing PMAP-37(F34-R), we constructed a plasmid expressing recombinant PMAP-37(F34-R) (pPICZα-PMAP-37(F34-R)-A) and introduced it into Pichia pastoris. Finally, we obtained a highly active recombinant peptide, PMAP-37(F34-R), which inhibited the activity of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration is 0.12-0.24 µg/mL, and it can destroy the integrity of the cell membrane, leading to cell lysis. It has good stability and is not easily affected by the external environment. Hemolysis experiments showed that 0.06 µg/mL-0.36 µg/mL PMAP-37(F34-R) had lower hemolysis ability to mammalian cells, and the hemolysis rate was below 1.5%. Additionally, 0.36 µg/mL PMAP-37(F34-R) showed a good preservative effect in plums. The decay and weight loss rates of the treated samples were significantly lower than those of the control group, and the respiratory intensity of the fruit was delayed in the experimental group. CONCLUSIONS In this study, we constructed a recombinant Pichia pastoris strain, which is a promising candidate for extending the shelf life of fruits and has potential applications in the development of new preservatives.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The underlying principles of preservation rhinoplasty (PR) center around maintaining the soft tissue envelope, dorsum, and alar cartilage through surgical manipulations and tip suture techniques. In particular, the let-down (LD) and push-down (PD) techniques have been described, although reports of indications and outcomes in the literature are sparse. METHODS A systematic review of the literature was performed using search terms "preservation" OR "let down" OR "push down" AND "rhinoplasty" on PubMed, Cochrane, SCOPUS, and EMBASE databases. Patient demographic information, operative details, and surgical outcomes were recorded. Sub-cohorts for patients who underwent LD and PD techniques were analyzed utilizing Fischer's exact test for categorical variables and Student's t test for continuous variables. RESULTS Overall, there were 5967 PR patients in 30 studies in the final analysis, with 307 patients in the PD cohort and 529 patients in the LD cohort. The Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation Questionnaire showed a significant increase of patient satisfaction after PR compared to before PR (62.13 vs 91.14; p < 0.001). There was a significantly lower rate of residual dorsal hump or recurrence of 1.3% (n = 4) in the PD when compared to 4.6% (n = 23) in LD cohorts (p = 0.02). The revision rate of PD (0%, n = 0) was also significantly lower than that of LD (5.0%, n = 25) (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Based on these published articles, it seems that preservation rhinoplasty is safe and efficacious procedure with improved dorsal aesthetic lines, reduced dorsal contour irregularities, and claimed excellent patient satisfaction. In particular, the PD technique has fewer reported complications and revisions than LD approach, although PD is often indicated in patients with smaller dorsal humps. Abstract
In this study, a decontamination technology combining ultrasound (US) and plasma-activated water (PAW) was developed to better preserve crayfish. First, the decontamination efficacy of US, PAW and their combinations (UP) on crayfish was quantified after 0, 20, 40, or 60 min of treatments. The total viable count (TVC) was reduced by 0.27-0.77 Log CFU/g after individual US or PAW treatments, while a TVC reduction of 1.17 Log CFU/g was achieved after 40 min of UP treatment. Besides, the changes in psychrotrophic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and molds followed a similar trend to TVC. UP treatments normally resulted in more significant reductions in the natural microbiota of crayfish than US or PAW treatments. Furthermore, the microbial quality, physicochemical properties and sensory properties of crayfish after different treatments were assessed during storage at 4 °C for 12 days. According to TVC and total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) values, the control group became unacceptable from 4 days, US or PAW groups became unacceptable from 6 days, while UP group extended the storage time to 8-10 days. During storage, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) values of all the groups were maintained below 0.5 mg/kg, among which the control group exhibited the highest value (0.39 mg/kg). Moreover, UP treatment effectively retarded the deterioration in color and texture properties of crayfish. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis indicated that UP treatment decreased the α-helix contents and increased the β-sheet contents of crayfish proteins, while the structural changes were not evident at the end of storage. Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) analysis revealed that UP treatment reduced the water migration and enhanced the stability of bond water in crayfish. In addition, E-nose analysis revealed the protection of UP treatment on the sensory properties of crayfish during storage. This study demonstrated that the combinations of US and PAW treatments effectively accelerated the decontamination of crayfish and contributed to better storage quality.

Abstract
Chitosan is a bio-renewable natural polymeric material. The antibacterial and antioxidant activity of chitosan can be enhanced by grafting with phenolic acids to further expand its application in food. Therefore, this paper focuses on reviewing the structure, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities and their mechanisms with phenolic acid-g-CS, evaluating its cytotoxicity, and describing its application in various food preservation. In general, different reaction mechanisms of phenolic acid-g-CS synthesis lead to different product structures. Compared to chitosan, phenolic acid-g-chitosan exhibited enhanced antibacterial and antioxidant activities. The toxicity assessment showed that phenolic acid-g-CS is not cytotoxic. Moreover, phenolic acid-g-CS has been applied to a variety of food products such as fruits, vegetables and meat with good results. Overall, this review provides a certain reference for subsequent researchers to design phenolic acid-g-CS more rationally and for the subsequent development of phenolic acid-g-CS in food preservation.
