Abstract
This study aims to extract, purify, and characterize water-soluble extracellular polysaccharides (EPS) from Trametes hirsuta and evaluate their antiproliferative effects. The anionic fraction (AF), a purified form extracellular polysaccharide consisting of glucose-based polymeric units, was isolated through chromatographic purification. The FTIR spectrum showed characteristic absorption peaks at 876.12 cm-1 and 826.89 cm-1 corresponding to β configuration and absorption peaks at 1019.63 cm-1, 1118.10 cm-1, and 1187.92 cm-1 corresponding to pyranose form of the glucosyl residue. 1H NMR signals at δ 4.90 ppm and δ 4.28 ppm were representative of anomeric protons, while 13C NMR spectrum signals around δ 97.85 ppm, δ 93.12 ppm, δ 77.79 ppm, δ 75.89 ppm, δ 71.51 ppm, and δ 62.28 ppm attributed to C-1, C-3, C-5, C-2, C-4, and C-6 carbon atom of EPS. The aforementioned results showed that the purified EPS was made of β-D (1 → 3) glucan moiety. The anti-proliferative activity of EPS was screened against four carcinoma cell lines, HepG2, HEp-2, HT-29 and PC3, and one leukemic cell line, MOLT-4, was used. Purified EPS demonstrated significantly greater cytotoxicity against HT-29, followed by MOLT-4, HepG2, and HEp2, compared to crude EPS. However, it was ineffective against PC-3, a prostate cancer cell line.

Abstract
Abalone has garnered significant attention from nutrition experts and health-conscious consumers owing to its exceptional nutritional value. Polysaccharides are considered to be one of their primary functional components, possessing various nutritional and biological properties, including immune modulation, anti-inflammatory effects, cardiovascular protection, antioxidant activity, anti-tumor effects, anti-diabetic properties, anticoagulation, and liver protection. Over the past few decades, a substantial amount of polysaccharides has been successfully extracted from abalone, demonstrating their potential in health and nutrition. However, significant gaps remain in the extraction processes of abalone polysaccharides, complex higher-order structures, and comprehensive evaluation of their structure-activity relationships. Therefore, this paper reviews the sources, extraction, purification, structural characteristics, biological activities, safety assessments, and structure-activity relationships of abalone polysaccharides. We hope that this research provides valuable insights for a deeper understanding of the structure of abalone polysaccharides and the development of new functional foods.

Abstract
Coriolus versicolor (CV), known in traditional Chinese medicine for over 2000 years, is currently used in China and Japan to reduce chemotherapy or radiotherapy side effects in cancer patients. Despite extensive research, its effects still need improvement. This study aimed to determine if combining CV extract with LY294002, an inhibitor of the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) signalling pathway, enhances cancer cell treatment, potentially leading to a novel therapeutic approach. Three human cancer cell lines (MCF-7, HeLa, and A549) were treated with CV extract alone or combined with LY294002. Cell viability was assessed using MTT assays. Then, HeLa and MCF-7 cells most sensitive to the co-treatment were used to evaluate colony formation, apoptosis, cell cycle, cell migration and invasion, and phospho-PI3K expression. The results demonstrated that LY294002 enhanced the CV extract's anti-tumour effects by reducing cell viability and colony formation. The combined treatment with CV extract and LY294002 more effectively induced G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, promoted apoptosis, reduced cell invasion and migration, and inhibited phospho-PI3K expression compared to each agent alone. This study highlights the potent cytotoxic enhancement between CV extract and LY294002 on cancer cells, primarily by inhibiting phospho-PI3K expression. These findings suggest promising avenues for developing novel combination therapies targeting cancer.

Abstract
Sweet potato pulp water (SPPW) is a kind of sweet potato starch processing by-product with rich nutrition but low utilization. The impacts of different proportions of Coriolus versicolor (C. versicolor, CV) fermented sweet potato pulp water (CV-SPPW) on the physicochemical, structural and metabolic properties of yogurt were investigated. Compared with 0% group, the hardness index, elasticity index and cohesion of the 10% sample group increased by 1.9-fold, 55.7% and 1.39-fold, respectively. When CV-SPPW was added at an amount of 10%, the microstructure and sensory scores of yogurts were considered as the optimal. Metabolic pathway analysis indicated that the changes of yogurts were mainly involved in sugar metabolism and amino acid metabolism, and that the carbohydrate metabolites produced mainly included cellobiose, maltitol, d-trehalose and d-maltose. The CV-SPPW improved the structural characteristics of yogurts to varying degrees and the fermented yogurts exhibited better viscosity properties.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb. et Zucc. is mainly distributed in Shanxi, Gansu, and Sichuan province of China. It is also found in Korea and Japan. Its dried roots and rhizomes are used as medicinal herbs and have been used to treat hyperglycemia and various inflammatory disorders. AIM OF THE REVIEW This paper aims to provide an up-to-date review of the developments in the studies involving the extraction and purification, structure analysis, pharmacological effects, and potential applications of polysaccharides obtained from Polygonum cuspidatum. Additionally, the possible future research directions of this plant are discussed. MATERIALS AND METHODS This article used "Polygonum cuspidatum polysaccharide (PCP)" and "Polygonum cuspidatum" as the keywords and gathered relevant data on Polygonum cuspidatum using electronic databases (Elsevier, PubMed, ACS, CNKI, Google Scholar, Baidu Scholar, Web of Science), relevant books, and classic literature about Chinese herb. RESULTS Excluding irrelevant and repetitive documents, 278 documents were finally included, of which 88 were in Chinese and 190 were in English. The CiteSpace software was used to visualize the trends and keywords in this research field. We concluded that the main extraction methods for Polygonum cuspidatum polysaccharide are water extraction and alcohol precipitation, microwave-assisted extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and microjet extraction. High-performance liquid chromatography and column chromatography are also commonly used in the separation and purification of PCP. PCP has antitumor, immunomodulatory, hypoglycemic, and antioxidant effects. This paper provides an updated and deeper understanding of PCP, serving as a theoretical foundation for the further optimization of polysaccharide structures and the development of PCP as a novel functional material for clinical application.

Abstract
Fufang Muji granules (FMGs) are a prominent modern prescription Chinese patent formulation derived from the Muji decoction. Utilized in clinical practice for nearly four decades, FMGs have demonstrated efficacy in treating liver diseases. However, the precise mechanism of action remains unclear. This study investigates the hepatoprotective effects of FMGs against liver fibrosis in rats based on untargeted metabolomics and elucidates their underlying mechanisms. A comprehensive model of liver fibrosis was established with 30% CCl4 (2 mL/kg) injected intraperitoneally, and a fat and sugar diet combined with high temperatures and humidity. Rats were orally administered FMGs (3.12 g/kg/d) once daily for six weeks. FMG administration resulted in improved liver fibrosis and attenuated hepatic oxidative stress and apoptosis. Furthermore, FMGs inhibited hepatic stellate cell activation and modulated transforming growth factor β1/Smad signaling. Additionally, FMG treatment influenced the expression levels of interleukin-6, interleukin-1β, and tumour necrosis factor alpha in the injured liver. Metabolic pathways involving taurine and hypotaurine metabolism, as well as primary bile acid biosynthesis, were identified as mechanisms of action for FMGs. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), and quantitative analysis also revealed that FMGs regulated taurine and hypotaurine metabolism and bile acid metabolism. These findings provide a valuable understanding of the role of FMGs in liver fibrosis management.

Abstract
Neurodegenerative diseases have multifactorial pathogenesis, mainly involving neuroinflammatory processes. Finding drugs able to treat these diseases, expecially because for most of these diseases there are no effective drugs, and the current drugs cause undesired side effects, represent a crucial point. Most in vivo and in vitro studies have been concentrated on various aspects related to neurons (e.g. neuroprotection), however, there has not been focus on the prevention of early stages involving glial cell activation and neuroinflammation. Recently, it has been demonstrated that nutritional phytochemicals including polyphenols, the main active constituents of the Mediterranean diet, maintain redox balance and neuroprotection through the activation of hormetic vitagene pathway. Recent lipidomics data from our laboratory indicate mushrooms as strong nutritional neuronutrients with strongly activity against neuroinflammation in Meniere' diseaseas, a model of cochleovestibular neural degeneration, as well as in animal model of traumatic brain injury, or rotenone induced parkinson's disease. Moreover, Hidrox®, an aqueous extract of olive containing hydroxytyrosol, and Boswellia, acting as Nrf2 activators, promote resilience by enhancing the redox potential, and thus, regulate through hormetic mechanisms, cellular stress response mechanisms., Thus, modulation of cellular stress pathways, in particular vitagenes system, may be an innovative approach for therapeutic intervention in neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract
Platycodon grandiflorum (P. grandiflorum) has long been used as a food and traditional herbal medicine. As a food, P. grandiflorum is often transformed into pickles for consumption, and as a traditional Chinese medicine, P. grandiflorum clears the lung, nourishes the pharynx, dispels phlegm, and discharges pus. Polysaccharides are among the main active components of P. grandiflorum. Recent literature has described the preparation, identification, and pharmacological activity of these polysaccharides. Studies have shown that these polysaccharides exhibit a variety of significant biological effects in vitro and in vivo, such as immune stimulation and antioxidant, anti-liver injury, anti-apoptosis and antitumour effects. However, there is no systematic summary of the related research articles on P. grandiflorum polysaccharide, which undoubtedly brings some difficulties to the future research. The purpose of this review is to comprehensively describe research progress on the extraction, purification, structural characterization, modification, and biological activity of P. grandiflorum polysaccharides. The shortcomings of recent research are summarized, further research on their biological activity is proposed to provide new reference value for the application of P. grandiflorum polysaccharides in drugs and health products in the future.

Abstract
Regarding different medical benefits of fungi, using the medical mushroom extracts as wound-healing agents is gaining popularity. This study, evaluated the wound healing characteristics of Trametes versicolor. Anti-oxidant activity addressed by employing the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) assay resulting 53.7% inhibitory effect. Besides, for anti-microbial ability determination, the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) of extract measured which Escherichia coli growth was inhibited at 1.1 mg/ml, and Staphylococcus aureus did not grow at 4.38 mg/ml of extract. The MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) method indicated dose dependence of the extract with 63 ± 3% and 28 ± 3% viability at 1250 μg/ml and 156.25 μg/ml of extract, which higher concentration caused higher cell viability. The outcome of gene expression analysis determined that overall expression of FGF2 (Fibroblast Growth Factor 2), IL-1β (Interleukin-1β), and TGF-β1 (Transforming Growth Factor-β1) was 4 times higher at 48 h than at 24 h in treated cells, suggesting a stimulating effect on cell growth. An in-vivo animal model suggested enhanced wound healing process after treatment with 0.01 g of extract. Furthermore, the number of fibroblasts, epidermal thickness, and collagen fiber was respectively 2, 3, and threefold higher in treated mice when compared to untreated mice. The treated wounds of mice showed 100% and 60% of untreated mice of healing within 14 days. The results of this research show promise for the fungus-based wound healing treatments, which may help with tissue regeneration and the healing of cutaneous wounds.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Omphalia lapidescens is a saprophytic and parasitic fungus belonging to the Polypora genus of Tricholomataceae. It has repellent, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects. RESULT This study found that the extract of O. lapidescens had significant anti-TMV activity, and the main active component was homopolysaccharide LW-1 by Bioassay-guided fractionation. LW-1 is a glucan with β-(1,3) glucoside bond as the main chain and β-(1,6) glucoside bond as the branch chain, with molecular weight in the range of 172,916-338,827 Da. The protective and inactive efficacies of LW-1(100 mg/L) against TMV were 78.10% and 48.20%, but had no direct effect on the morphology of TMV particles. The results of mechanism of action showed that LW-1 induced the increase of the activity of defense enzymes such as POD, SOD and PAL in Nicotiana glutinosa. The overexpression of resistance genes such as NPR1, PR1 and PR5, and the increase of SA content. Further transcriptome sequencing showed that LW-1 activated MAPK signaling pathway, plant-pathogen interaction pathway and glucosinolide metabolic pathway in Arabidopsis thaliana. Besides, LW-1 induced crops resistance against plant pathogenic fungi. CONCLUSION Taken together, the anti-TMV mechanism of LW-1 was to activate MAPK signaling pathway, inducing overexpression of resistance genes, activating plant immune system, and improving the synthesis and accumulation of plant defencins such as glucosinolide. LW-1-induced plant disease resistance has the advantages of broad spectrum and long duration, which has the potential to be developed as a new antiviral agent or plant immune resistance inducer.

Abstract
A new Rosa roxburghii Tratt (RRT) and coix seed (CS) beverage rich in multi-active ingredients was developed. Edible mushrooms and L. plantarum were selected for fermentation in stages. Some physicochemical properties, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), polysaccharides and sensory were studied during the T. versicolor and L. plantarum fermentation. T. versicolor increased the free amino acid through enzymatic protein digestion in the early growth stage and used these amino acids to synthesize its bacteriophage protein. T. versicolor and L. plantarum increased the polysaccharide and GABA of the fermentation broth. Vitamin C was retained as much as possible, with a slight loss occurring mainly in the aerobic fermentation stage of T. versicolor. Its less loss in exchange was for a higher value of T. versicolor polysaccharide, protein enhancement, and bitterness reduction. This study provides a reference for the deep processing of Guizhou's unique agricultural products and edible mushroom fermented beverage.

Abstract
Coriolus versicolor (CV) is a common species from the Polyporaceae family that has been used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine for over 2000 years. Among well-described and most active compounds identified in CV are polysaccharopeptides, such as polysaccharide peptide (PSP) and Polysaccharide-K (PSK, krestin), which, in some countries, are already used as an adjuvant agent in cancer therapy. In this paper, research advances in the field of anti-cancer and anti-viral action of CV are analyzed. The results of data obtained in in vitro and in vivo studies using animal models as well as in clinical research trials have been discussed. The present update provides a brief overview regarding the immunomodulatory effects of CV. A particular focus has been given to the mechanisms of direct effects of CV on cancer cells and angiogenesis. A potential use of CV compounds in anti-viral treatment, including therapy against COVID-19 disease, has also been analyzed based on the most recent literature. Additionally, the significance of fever in viral infection and cancer has been debated, providing evidence that CV affects this phenomenon.

Abstract
The potential of edible mushrooms as an unexploited treasure trove, although rarely included in known food guidelines, is highlighted. Their role in shielding people against the side effects of an unhealthy stylish diet is reviewed. Mushrooms complement the human diet with various bioactive molecules not identified or deficient in foodstuffs of plant and animal sources, being considered a functional food for the prevention of several human diseases. Mushrooms have been widely used as medicinal products for more than 2,000 years, but globally the potential field of use of wild mushrooms has been untapped. There is a broad range of edible mushrooms which remain poorly identified or even unreported which is a valuable pool as sources of bioactive compounds for biopharma utilization and new dietary supplements. Some unique elements of mushrooms and their role in preventative healthcare are emphasized, through their positive impact on the immune system. The potential of mushrooms as antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-neoplastic, and other health concerns is discussed. Mushrooms incorporate top sources of non-digestible oligosaccharides, and ergothioneine, which humans are unable to synthesize, the later a unique antioxidant, cytoprotective, and anti-inflammatory element, with therapeutic potential, approved by world food agencies. The prebiotic activity of mushrooms beneficially affects gut homeostasis performance and the balance of gut microbiota is enhanced. Several recent studies on neurological impact and contribution to the growth of nerve and brain cells are mentioned. Indeed, mushrooms as functional foods' nutraceuticals are presently regarded as next-generation foods, supporting health and wellness, and are promising prophylactic or therapeutic agents.
