Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) and electroacupuncture combined with warm needling (EAWN) on reducing tinnitus loudness and tinnitus-related distress among older adults. METHODS This multicenter, assessor-blinded, parallel-group, randomized clinical trial was conducted from December 2022 to April 2024 at three out-patient clinics in Hong Kong. Ninety eligible participants aged 50-70 years with subjective tinnitus for 0.5-24 months were equally randomized to EA, EAWN, or waitlist groups. Both treatment groups received two standardized treatment sessions per week for 5 weeks. The waitlist group received no treatment during the study period. The outcome measures were numeric rating scale (NRS) scores for tinnitus loudness, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI) scores, and safety outcomes. Assessments were conducted at baseline, weeks 5 and 10. RESULTS Both EA and EAWN groups showed significantly greater reductions in NRS scores for tinnitus loudness than did the waitlist group at weeks 5 (mean difference [95% confidence interval]; EA: -1.91 [-2.79 to -1.03]; P < 0.001; EAWN: -1.81 [-2.68 to -0.94]; P < 0.001) and 10 (EA: -2.03 [-2.95 to -1.11]; P < 0.001; EAWN: -1.98 [-2.92 to -1.04]; P < 0.001). Improvements in total THI scores were also greater in the intervention groups at weeks 5 (P < 0.01) and 10 (P < 0.001). The two intervention groups showed no significant differences. No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSION Both EA and EAWN therapies could be effective and safe treatments for subjective tinnitus in older adults.

Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to analyse blood glucose and lipid levels in subjective tinnitus compared to healthy controls. Method: A total of 414 patients with subjective tinnitus and 274 healthy participants were enrolled. All participants underwent comprehensive laboratory testing, which included measurements of fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, and blood lipids. Results: The tinnitus group had significantly higher glucose levels than the control group (p = 0.024). Additionally, the HbA1c levels were higher in the tinnitus group (p = 0.006). Tinnitus patients exhibited elevated levels of total cholesterol (p < 0.001), triglycerides (p < 0.001), and LDL (p < 0.001). However, HDL levels showed no significant difference (p = 0.984). Although the triglyceride-glucose index tends to show higher values in the tinnitus group, this difference is statistically insignificant (p = 0.688). ROC indicated that LDL had the highest sensitivity for predicting tinnitus (AUC = 0.620; p < 0.001, 95% CI: 0.573-0.668). Other parameters showed significant results, excluding the triglyceride-glucose index (AUC = 0.514; p = 0.688, 95% CI: 0.443-0.585), which was not a significant predictor. Glucose levels significantly correlate with age (rho = 0.338, p < 0.001) and tinnitus onset (rho = 0.107, p = 0.034). Additionally, age showed a significant correlation with total cholesterol levels (rho = 0.156, p = 0.002) and triglycerides (rho = 0.121, p = 0.020) and tinnitus onset (rho = 0.344, p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis revealed that the presence of tinnitus was significantly associated with elevated HbA1c levels (p = 0.007) and TG levels (p = 0.001). Furthermore, the occurrence of chronic tinnitus was significantly influenced by elevated glucose levels (p = 0.026). Conclusions: The results showed increased glucose and blood lipid levels in tinnitus. LDL levels exhibited the highest sensitivity in predicting tinnitus. However, the TyG index was not a significant predictor. Given the cross-sectional design of the study, which may limit the results, further longitudinal studies are necessary.

Abstract
Objective To analyze the characteristics of types of hearing curves in patients with tinnitus and the differences in tinnitus severity and treatment outcomes among patients with different types of hearing curves, to further explore the relationship between tinnitus and hearing loss, and to provide clinical evidence for exploring the etiology and treatment plans for tinnitus. Methods The basic information and the tinnitus and hearing data of the tinnitus patients who met the inclusion criteria were collected. The patients' severity of tinnitus was assessed on a scale of grades Ⅰ through Ⅴ according to the grading standards of the tinnitus evaluation questionnaire (TEQ). According to the classification criteria for the different types of hearing curves, the tinnitus patients were categorized into 6 types, including normal hearing, high-frequency descending type, low-frequency descending type, partial descending type, flat descending type, and total deafness. We analyzed in multiple aspects the tinnitus status identified at the initial diagnosis and the treatment outcomes at the last diagnoses and follow-up in patients with different types of hearing curves. Results A total of 672 patients with tinnitus were included in this study, of which 183 had normal hearing, and 489 had varying degrees of hearing loss. According to the TEQ grading criteria for tinnitus assessment, the patients' severity of tinnitus at the initial diagnosis was mainly concentrated in grades Ⅱ and Ⅲ, with 86 cases (12.79%) classified as grade Ⅰ, 309 cases (45.98%) as grade Ⅱ, 161 cases (23.96%) as grade Ⅲ, 87 cases (12.95%) as grade Ⅳ, and 29 cases (4.32%) as grade Ⅴ. Regarding the distribution of hearing curve types, tinnitus patients had predominantly hearing curves of the high-frequency descending type. There were statistically significant differences in the distribution of tinnitus severity among patients with different types of hearing curves at the initial diagnosis (P<0.01). Among tinnitus patients with high-frequency descending hearing curve, there was no statistically significant difference in the distribution of hearing loss severity among patients with tinnitus of different degrees of severity. After uniform treatment, there was no statistically significant difference in treatment outcomes between patients with different types of audiometry curves at the time of the last diagnosis and the follow-up. Conclusion Despite significant differences in the severity of tinnitus among patients with different types of hearing curves at the initial diagnosis in this study, no clear association was found between tinnitus treatment outcomes and hearing curve types. Furthermore, no clear association was found between tinnitus and the degree of hearing loss in patients with the same type of hearing curve. Hence, further clinical evidence is warranted to assess the efficacy of selecting tinnitus treatment plans that are similar to those for sudden deafness based on the types of hearing curves.

Abstract
Visuomanual prism adaptation (PA), which consists of pointing to visual targets while wearing prisms that shift the visual field, is one of the oldest experimental paradigms used to investigate sensorimotor plasticity. Since the 2000's, a growing scientific interest emerged for the expansion of PA to cognitive functions in several sensory modalities. The present work focused on the aftereffects of PA within the auditory modality. Recent studies showed changes in mental representation of auditory frequencies and a shift of divided auditory attention following PA. Moreover, one study demonstrated benefits of PA in a patient suffering from tinnitus. According to these results, we tried to shed light on the following question: How could this be possible to modulate audition by inducing sensorimotor plasticity with glasses? Based on the literature, we suggest a bottom-up attentional mechanism involving cerebellar, parietal, and temporal structures to explain crossmodal aftereffects of PA. This review opens promising new avenues of research about aftereffects of PA in audition and its implication in the therapeutic field of auditory troubles.

Abstract
Tinnitus affects millions of people around the world and causes significant negative impacts on their quality of life (QoL). Tinnitus is rarely examined in Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of tinnitus among adults, explore their experience with tinnitus, investigate the impact of tinnitus on their QoL, and discover their tinnitus management methods. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was performed utilizing a non-probability purposive sampling technique and a face-to-face in-person administered questionnaire. Descriptive statistics and a chi-square test were used to assess the data and find any correlation between the variables. Out of 4860 adults, 320 (males: n = 172; females: n = 148; age range = 18-90 years) had tinnitus, mainly described as a daily, gradual, continuous, whistling, and ringing tinnitus in both ears. Tinnitus prevalence was estimated at 6.54% with a slight predominance in males (6.9%) compared with females (6.2%). Most of the participants were unaware of the cause of their tinnitus. The modal value of the severity of tinnitus signals was severe for both genders. The modal value of the impact of tinnitus on the QoL was moderate for males and severe for females. Sleep, social activities, quiet settings, and concentration were largely affected by tinnitus. Significant associations (p < 0.05) between the impact of tinnitus on the QoL and risk factors, such as gender, age, hearing loss, and hyperacusis were determined. Also, the impact of tinnitus on the QoL was significantly associated (p < 0.05) with the duration of complaints and the severity of tinnitus signals. Approximately, 61% of the participants did not use any tinnitus treatment, while the remaining participants usually used hearing aids, medications, and counseling to manage their tinnitus. By increasing awareness, establishing standard practice, developing guidelines for managing tinnitus, expanding access to suitable interventions, and carrying out additional research, adults living with tinnitus in Saudi Arabia will have better support and, ultimately, an enhancement of their overall well-being.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tinnitus is the phantom perception of sound in the ears or head which may result from inflammation of the auditory pathway. A healthy diet consisting of a range of vitamins and minerals may be protective against tinnitus. This study aims to determine the association between intakes of dietary vitamins and minerals and the prevalence and incidence of tinnitus over 10 years. METHODS In this longitudinal cohort study of 2947 participants (aged ≥ 50 years), 935 (32%) cases of tinnitus were identified and included in prevalence analyses. The remaining 2012 participants were followed to establish 10-year incidence of tinnitus. A validated semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was used to determine intakes of dietary vitamins and minerals. RESULTS No significant associations with tinnitus prevalence were found. However, iron and zinc were significantly associated with incident tinnitus. There was a 44% (multivariate-adjusted HR: 1.44, 95% CI: 1.07-1.93) increased risk of developing incident tinnitus over 10 years with lower zinc intakes and a 35% increased risk with lower iron intakes (multivariate-adjusted HR: 1.35, 95% CI: 1.00-1.80). CONCLUSION Higher intakes of zinc and iron were significantly associated with lower tinnitus risk. Due to a lack of comparable high-quality data, future research studies should include robust study designs.

Abstract
Counseling can help alleviate tinnitus-caused emotional distress and correct misconceptions, making it an effective rehabilitation option for people with tinnitus. Advances in communication technology have increased the demand for computer-mediated tinnitus counseling; however, the effectiveness of such counseling in reducing tinnitus is unclear. Thus, this study aimed to determine the tinnitus-relieving effects of computer-mediated counseling. Thirty-six participants with tinnitus were randomly assigned to online counseling (15 participants) or video-based counseling (21 participants) groups, defining how remote counseling was conducted. Tinnitus counseling, comprising 100 items, lasted 2 weeks and was separated into six sessions for the online counseling group and 8-9 items daily for 12 days for the video-based counseling group. The effectiveness of counseling was determined based on score changes between baseline and 2-week follow-up using the Korean version of the Tinnitus Primary Function Questionnaire and Visual Analog Scales for annoyance and loudness. While no significant improvements were observed in other domains, average emotional aspect-related scores showed significant improvements in both groups. Regarding individual results, four and seven participants in the online and video-based counseling groups reported significant improvements in the emotional domain, respectively. Overall, computer-mediated educational counseling might be a rehabilitation option for individuals with tinnitus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tinnitus affects approximately 740 million adults globally, involving hearing, emotion, and sleep systems. However, studies using polysomnography and pure-tone audiometry (PTA) are limited. We aimed to assess the correlation between tinnitus and hearing, sleep quality, characteristics, and depression using polysomnography and PTA. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we divided participants into tinnitus and non-tinnitus groups. We included 100 outpatients (65 with tinnitus, 35 without) from a medical center in Taiwan, who underwent polysomnography and completed rating scales including the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Chinese-Mandarin version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI-CM). We analyzed correlations, conducted group comparisons, assessed factors related to THI-CM scores, constructed ROC curves to predict depression in the tinnitus group, and performed multinomial and logistic regression to explore associations. RESULTS Descriptive statistics identified a cohort with mean age 53.9 ± 12.80 years, 63% exhibited PHQ-9 scores ≥ 10, and 66% had Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) > 5. The ratio of rapid eye movement and deep sleep to stage 1 + 2 sleep was relatively low and non-significant. Likewise, leg movements was higher in the tinnitus group but not statistically significant. In the tinnitus group, 63.08% had depression, and 81.54% had AHI > 5. Univariate logistic regression linked tinnitus to AHI > 5 (Odds ratio (OR) 2.67, p = 0.026) and male sex (OR 2.49, p = 0.034). A moderate positive correlation was found between the THI-CM score and PHQ-9 score (rs = 0.50, p < 0.001). Further adjustment for obstructive sleep apnea showed associations between PHQ-9 (total score) or depression and THI-CM Grade 3-5 (OR = 1.28; OR = 8.68). Single- and multifactor regression analyses highlighted significant associations of PSQI scores > 13 (OR 7.06, p = 0.018) and THI-CM scores > 47 (OR 7.43, p = 0.002) with depression. CONCLUSIONS Our study recruited tinnitus participants with slight or mild hearing loss and mild tinnitus handicap. Depression was identified as a predominant factor in tinnitus-related handicap. The mild tinnitus handicap in tinnitus participants may explain the lack of significant differences in depression, sleep quality, and polysomnographic sleep characteristics between tinnitus and non-tinnitus groups. Further extensive and prospective studies are needed to elucidate the complex links among depression, sleep, and tinnitus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to develop a modified tinnitus-relieving sound system and establish a model for predicting its treatment effects. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study. SETTING Tinnitus Specialist Clinic of Eye & ENT Hospital, Fudan University. METHODS We recruited 107 patients undergoing modified tinnitus-relieving sounds between August 2020 and May 2021. Patients were divided into training (n = 75) and validation (n = 32) cohorts in a 7:3 ratio. The treatment outcome was Tinnitus Handicapped Inventory scores. Features were established using a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator-derived logistic regression model, where the selected clinical risk factors were included in the multivariate logistic regression, and a nomogram was established based on the model. The discrimination and calibration abilities of the nomogram were evaluated using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test and calibration curves. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the net benefit of predictive efficacy. RESULTS Multivariate logistic analysis indicated that the initial Tinnitus Handicapped Inventory score (odds ratio [OR]: 1.13 [1.07-1.19], P < .001) and treatment duration (OR: 3.4 [1.34-8.62], P < .001) were positive factors for improved tinnitus. The nomogram model that included baseline Tinnitus Handicapped Inventory score and treatment duration achieved a better concordance index of 0.880. DCA revealed that the nomogram model could lead to net benefits and exhibited a wider range of threshold probabilities for the prediction of therapeutic effects. CONCLUSION Our study suggests that the nomogram model, including baseline Tinnitus Handicapped Inventory score and treatment duration, could achieve optimal performance in the preoperative prediction of the therapeutic effect of modified tinnitus-relieving sound.

Abstract
Background: Tinnitus is a common symptom associated with the conscious perception of sound in the absence of a corresponding external or internal sound source, which can severely impact quality of life. Because of the current limited understanding of the precise pathophysiological mechanism of idiopathic tinnitus, no curable treatment has been attained yet. A food supplement trading as MemoVigor 2, which contains a combination of therapeutic ingredients with mainly antioxidant activity, has been used in the treatment of tinnitus. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effectiveness of MemoVigor 2 in the treatment of recent-onset idiopathic tinnitus. Methods: In a prospective single-centre randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial we studied 204 patients with idiopathic tinnitus divided into two groups: 104 patients who received MemoVigor 2 and 100 patients treated with placebo. To evaluate changes in tinnitus we used (1) audiometry/tympanometry; (2) specific measures of tinnitus perception, including tinnitus pitch, loudness at tinnitus pitch, loudness at 1 kHz, minimum masking level, and residual inhibition; (3) questionnaires of tinnitus handicap inventory, mini tinnitus questionnaire and patients' global impression of change. All patients underwent this test battery at the beginning of the study and in a repeat post-3-month session. Results: All tinnitus measures, including pitch, loudness, minimum masking level and residual inhibition improved significantly in the intervention group. Most of these measures improved in the placebo group too, but in a lesser degree. All questionnaire scores diminished significantly in both groups, but the degree of decrease was greater in the intervention group. The participants' tinnitus outcome reported after treatment using the patients' global impression of change score differed significantly between the two groups, with greater improvement observed in the intervention group. Conclusion: We found that the use of MemoVigor 2 improved recent-onset tinnitus, as proved by a set of tests performed for its evaluation, including audiometric measures, specific measures of tinnitus perception and tinnitus questionnaires. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tinnitus is one of the most important challenges in the field of ear, nose and throat diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin B12 on idiopathic tinnitus. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this double-blind clinical trial study, 140 patients with idiopathic tinnitus were divided into two groups, the group receiving vitamin B12 and the group receiving placebo. The first group received vitamin B12 for a month and the other group received placebo. All patients filled a THI questionnaire before the participation, one month and three months after the participation. VAS evaluation questionnaires were also filled for the patients before the participation, one month and three months after the participation. The effect of vitamin B12 on tinnitus was also assessed according to hearing loss status. The two groups were also compared regarding the side effects. RESULTS There was no significant differences between two groups regarding age (p.value = 0.523), gender (females (p.value = 0.810) and males (p.value = 0.789), and hearing loss status (p value = 0.651). According to VAS score, there was no significant statistical differences in tinnitus severity in each group (B12 group, p.value = 0.851 and placebo group, p.value = 0.386). There was no significant statistical differences in tinnitus severity based on VAS score between two groups before the participation (p.value = 0.560), one month (p.value = 0.485) and three months (p.value = 0.254) after the participation. According to THI criterion, there was no significant statistical differences in tinnitus severity in each group (B12 group, p.value = 0.259 and placebo group, p.value = 0.521). There was no significant statistical differences in tinnitus severity based on THI score between two groups before the participation (p.value = 0.651), one month (p.value = 0.125) and three months (p.value = 0.089) after the participation. None of the patients of the two groups had any noticeable side effects. The mean of VAS and THI also had no statistically significant difference before and after the intervention in term of hearing loss status (p.value>0.05). These results were not significantly different between the two groups in term of hearing loss status (p value>0.05). CONCLUSION The result of this study indicated that vitamin B12 has no distinctive effect on reducing tinnitus severity.

Abstract
This is a review of the literature on the main neuromodulation techniques, focusing on the possibility of introducing sensory threshold ULFTENS into them. Electro neuromodulation techniques have been in use for many years as promising methods of therapy for cognitive and emotional disorders. One of the most widely used forms of stimulation for orofacial pain is transcutaneous trigeminal stimulation on three levels: supraorbital area, dorsal surface of the tongue, and anterior skin area of the tragus. The purpose of this review is to trigger interest on using dental ULFTENS as an additional trigeminal neurostimulation and neuromodulation technique in the context of TMD. In particular, we point out the possibility of using ULFTENS at a lower activation level than that required to trigger a muscle contraction that is capable of triggering effects at the level of the autonomic nervous system, with extreme ease of execution and few side effects.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to describe the tinnitus severity in patients with chronic otitis media (COM) and describe the sociodemographic and clinical variables associated with tinnitus severity. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. Two otology-referral centers in Bogotá (Colombia) were included. Sociodemographic, clinical associated factors and quality of life questionnaires were applied. Otoscopic evaluation and audiometric data were collected. STUDY SAMPLE About 231 adults with COM. RESULTS Up to 51.5% of the patients reported severe tinnitus discomfort, 21.7% moderate discomfort, and 26.8% minor discomfort. Factor associated with increased tinnitus severity in patients with COM were older age (aOR: 1.02; 95% CI: 1.01-1.05), higher education (aOR: 2.24; 95% CI: 1.03-4.87), ear discharge during childhood (aOR: 1.88; 95% CI: 1.02-3.45), cholesteatoma in one ear (aOR: 2.26; 95% CI: 1.05-4.88), and pure-tone air average over 15 dB (aOR: 2.08; 95% CI: 1.28-3.36). Differences of 10-points in symptoms severity and 15-points in the total score of the "Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media Questionnaire-12" were found between the tinnitus severity groups. CONCLUSIONS Our results highlight the need for further research on the associated factors of tinnitus severity on COM patients. COM patients with higher tinnitus severity presented worse audiometric results and worse quality of life outcomes.

Abstract
Migraine is a chronic neurological disorder that frequently coexists with different vestibular and cochlear symptoms (sudden hearing loss, tinnitus, otalgia, aural fullness, hyperacusis, dizziness, imbalance, and vertigo) and disorders (recurrent benign positional vertigo, persistent postural perceptual dizziness, mal de debarquement, and Menière's disease). Despite evidence of an epidemiological association and similar pathophysiology between migraine and these vestibulocochlear disorders, patients suffering from migraine-related symptoms are usually underdiagnosed and undertreated. Current migraine treatment options have shown success in treating vestibulocochlear symptoms. Lifestyle and dietary modifications (reducing stress, restful sleep, avoiding migraine dietary triggers, and avoiding starvation and dehydration) and supplements (vitamin B2 and magnesium) offer effective first-line treatments. Treatment with migraine prophylactic medications such as tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., nortriptyline), anticonvulsants (e.g., topiramate), and calcium channel blockers (e.g., verapamil) is implemented when lifestyle and dietary modifications are not sufficient in improving a patient's symptoms. We have included an algorithm that outlines a suggested approach for addressing these symptoms, taking into account our clinical observations. Greater recognition and understanding of migraine and its related vestibular and cochlear symptoms are needed to ensure the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of affected patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Tinnitus is a common and burdensome disease, often accompanied by complaints of poor sleep. However, associations of tinnitus with objective estimates of sleep remain unclear, particularly in the general population. We assessed these associations in a population-based cohort of middle-aged and elderly persons. DESIGN This study included 1456 participants (mean age: 65.0 ± 7.1 years, 52% women) from the population-based Rotterdam Study. Tinnitus was self-reported and in those who reported tinnitus daily, symptom severity was assessed with the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory. We used actigraphy to estimate sleep and 24-hour activity rhythms objectively and sleep diaries to assess self-reported sleep. We estimated the difference in sleep and 24-hour activity rhythms first between those with and those without tinnitus and secondly with tinnitus severity. RESULTS Tinnitus, reported by 341 (23%) participants, and tinnitus severity, assessed in 194 participants with daily tinnitus, were not associated with actigraphy-estimated sleep or 24-hour activity rhythms, but were associated with a longer self-reported sleep onset latency (adjusted difference tinnitus = 2.36, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.95-3.78, adjusted difference tinnitus severity = 0.27, 95% CI = 0.013-0.54). After stratification for hearing loss, tinnitus was associated with longer self-reported sleep onset latency (adjusted difference = 2.26, 95% CI = 0.98-3.53) and less stable 24-hour activity rhythms (adjusted difference = -0.02, 95% CI = -0.04 to -0.00) in those with hearing loss. In those without hearing loss, tinnitus was associated with more stable rhythms (adjusted difference = 0.03, 95% CI = 0.01-0.05). CONCLUSIONS Having tinnitus is associated with a longer self-reported sleep onset latency, but not with objective estimates of sleep, suggesting that the subjective experience of sleep may be particularly disturbed in those with tinnitus. In addition, hearing loss may modify the association of tinnitus and 24-hour activity rhythms.

Abstract
We report the case of a 51-year-old woman with multiple otologic and vestibular symptoms. She presented with two different types of tinnitus in her right ear, vertigo, and fluctuating aural symptoms in the left ear. She also complained of disequilibrium; chronic headache; hyperhidrosis; amenorrhea; insomnia; broadened hands and feet; and widened, thickened, and stubby fingers. The patient underwent careful collection of medical history, otomiscroscopy, pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, reflex threshold measurements, vestibular assessments, blood tests, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and cone beam computed tomography (CBTC) of the head. The audiogram showed: (1) a mild low-to-mid frequency conductive hearing loss, and a sharply sloping sensorineural hearing loss above 4000 Hz in the right ear; (2) a mild low-frequency sensorineural hearing loss in the left ear. MRI with 3D FLAIR sequences detected an acoustic neuroma (7.4 mm × 5.2 mm) in the middle-third of the right internal auditory canal, a pituitary macroadenoma (13 mm × 10 mm × 10 mm) and left saccular hydrops. The CBCT scan documented an outbreak of otosclerosis (3 mm) around the fissula ante fenestram in the right ear. Therefore, acoustic neuroma (right ear), growth hormone-secreting macroadenoma of the pituitary gland, Menière’s disease (left ear), and otosclerosis (right ear) were diagnosed/strongly suspected. A watch-and-wait strategy was adopted for acoustic neuroma and otosclerosis, while transsphenoidal surgery was successfully performed to remove the pituitary macroadenoma. This case report confirms that multiple otologic disorders can occur simultaneously in the same patient, requiring prompt audiological and imaging evaluations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tinnitus is a highly prevalent symptom affecting 10%-20% of the adult population. Most patients with tinnitus have chronic tinnitus, which can directly or indirectly disrupt their daily life and negatively affect the health-related quality of life. Therefore, patients with tinnitus are frequently in need of costly and time-consuming treatments. As an answer, telerehabilitation interventions are on a rise to promote self-management in patients with tinnitus and reduce their dependency on in-person care. OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to provide an overview of the research concerning the effectiveness of telerehabilitation interventions for self-management of tinnitus. METHODS This systematic review adheres to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. Studies were eligible for inclusion if study participants were adult patients with complaints of primary subjective tinnitus and the study intervention comprised any possible telerehabilitation form for the self-management of tinnitus complaints. A search for eligible studies was conducted on PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library. The Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool was used to the assess risk of bias. RESULTS In total, 29 articles were found eligible, and of these, 5 (17%) studied multiple telerehabilitation forms. Internet-based cognitive behavioral treatment with guidance by a psychologist or audiologist was examined in 17 studies (n=1767), internet-based cognitive behavioral treatment without guidance was examined in 4 studies (n=940), self-help manuals were examined in 1 study (n=72), technological self-help devices were examined in 2 studies (n=82), smartphone apps were examined in 8 studies (n=284), and other internet-based interventions were examined in 2 studies (n=130). These rehabilitation categories were proven to be effective in decreasing tinnitus severity and relieving tinnitus distress as measured by tinnitus questionnaires such as Tinnitus Functional Index, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, or Tinnitus Reactions Questionnaire. However, dropout rates were often high (range 4%-71.4%). All studies reported between some concerns and high concerns of risk of bias, resulting in low to moderate certainty levels. CONCLUSIONS Overall, there is low to moderate quality evidence that telerehabilitation interventions effectively reduce tinnitus severity and distress. These interventions form a possible tool to improve the self-management capacities of the patient and the accessibility of tinnitus care as a replacement or an addition to in-person care. Nevertheless, barriers such as lack of time, engagement, motivation, and openness of the patient causing high dropout should be considered. Abstract
Background In the 21st century, the prevalence of tinnitus is increasing, impacting approximately one in five people. It is a very complicated condition that significantly affects quality of life. Despite the availability of hundreds of tinnitus treatment options, none are very successful. In light of this, there has been a steady increase in studies on tinnitus treatments in the recent past. To comprehend them better, this study used bibliometric approaches to analyze and summarize 21st century scientific research accomplishments in tinnitus treatment. Methods The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was searched for papers that had been published and related to the treatment of tinnitus. VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R, and Tableau software programs were used to conduct bibliometric studies. To evaluate and visualize the results. Results 2,933 publications on tinnitus treatment were found in 74 countries. Between 2000 and 2021, publications increased steadily. Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery had the highest impact factor, whereas Otology & Neurotology had the most magazines and the highest h, g, and m index. Langguth B was the most prolific author in terms of productivity during the past 21 years. Numerous eminent authors and organizations from multiple nations collaborated. With 626 papers, the United States of America (USA) contributed the most to this field, making them the leading contributor. Neuroplasticity, sound therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) have attracted the attention of researchers, leading to the development of innovative diagnostic and treatment strategies for tinnitus. Conclusion This bibliometric study provides a comprehensive analysis of worldwide publications, cooperation, and research hotspots in tinnitus therapy, revealing the present status of research on this issue and guiding tinnitus treatment research in the coming years.

Abstract
Tinnitus is perception of sound in the absence of an apparent external acoustic stimulus. The condition is prevalent in adults, especially the elderly (≥65 years), and may be associated with cognitive function decline and significantly impacts on the quality of life, heralding difficulties in managing this challenging disorder. Interventions for tinnitus have been varied. However, drugs have not yet been approved for the treatment of tinnitus and there is no pharmacotherapy recommended by existing guidelines. Still, herbal medicines are used for the treatment of tinnitus in many countries, especially Gingko (G.) biloba. In the current updated literature review, we evaluated the efficacy of herbal medicines in the treatment of tinnitus by reviewing the evidence of relevant randomized controlled trials. The authors also highlight some of the issues in clinical trials of herbal medicines given that currently available evidence on herbal medicines for tinnitus is overall of insufficient quality and the conclusions from existing trials are conflicting. Nevertheless, there is a clear and urgent need for safe and effective pharmacotherapy of tinnitus.

Abstract
Objectives In this systematic review, we aim to evaluate the evidence regarding the correlation between tinnitus distress and the severity of depressive symptoms in patients with chronic tinnitus. Also, the prevalence of clinically relevant depressive symptoms scores in patients with chronic tinnitus was evaluated. Methods We performed a systematic review in PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane library in June 2021 using the terms “depression” and “tinnitus,” and their synonyms, following PRISMA guidelines. Studies were selected on relevance and critically appraised regarding risk of bias using the Newcastle–Ottowa Quality Assessment Scale. Results A total of 1,912 articles were screened on title and abstract after the removal of the duplicates. Eventually, 33 (1.5%) articles were included for the final analysis. Only cross-sectional cohort studies and case–control studies with a low level of evidence and a high risk of bias due to the study design and patient selection were found. Statistically significant correlations between the experienced tinnitus distress and depressive symptoms were reported in 31 out of 33 studies. Clinically relevant depression scores had a prevalence of 4.6–41.7%. Conclusions In this systematic review, in which mostly cross-sectional studies were included, a statistically significant correlation was found between the experienced tinnitus distress and the reported severity of symptoms of depression in patients with chronic tinnitus. A wide range of clinically relevant depression scores were reported in included studies. Due to the high risk of bias of included studies it is not possible to provide a definite answer on the existence of this relationship. Future population-based studies are necessary to provide more clarity.

Abstract
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive, neuromodulating technique for brain hyperexcitability disorders. The objective of this paper is to discuss the mechanism of action of rTMS as well as to investigate the literature involving the application of rTMS in the treatment of tinnitus. The reviewed aspects of the protocols included baseline evaluation, the total number of sessions, frequency and the total number of stimuli, the location of treatment, and the outcome measures. Even with heterogeneous protocols, most studies utilized validated tinnitus questionnaires as baseline and outcome measures. Low frequency (1 Hz) stimulation throughout 10 consecutive sessions was the most widely used frequency and treatment duration; however, there was no consensus on the total number of stimuli necessary to achieve significant results. The auditory cortex (AC) was the most targeted location, with most studies supporting changes in neural activity with multi-site stimulation to areas in the frontal cortex (FC), particularly the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). The overall efficacy across most of the reviewed trials reveals positive statistically significant results. Though rTMS has proven to impact neuroplasticity at the microscopic and clinical level, further studies are warranted to demonstrate and support the clinical use of rTMS in tinnitus treatment with a standardized protocol.

Abstract
High prevalence of tinnitus, its negative influence on the quality of life and psychoemotional status of patients support need and extreme urgency of further research of various treatment methods. Rhythmic transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is an effective method of therapy in patients with chronic tinnitus. The optimal protocol for rhythmic stimulation is low-frequency (1 Hz) rTMS with low-intensity stimuli (below 110% of the motor threshold) with a limited number of stimuli per series. There is evidence that high-frequency rTMS in the area of relatively thin temporal bones can lead to excessive stimulation of the neural structures of the auditory cortex, which is undesirable considering the pathogenesis of this condition. The use of navigation technology in rTMS has no advantage in chronic tinnitus therapy, whereas the combined use of rTMS and transcranial electrical brain stimulation to increase the treatment efficacy is under active study. Considering the attributable favorable clinical safety profile of rTMS, as well as its known positive effects on anxiety and depression that are often seen in patients with tinnitus, we can recommend more widespread use of this method in real-world settings.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the efficacy of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT) in the treatment of tinnitus. MATERIALS AND METHOD Computer retrieval of PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), Wanfang data, etc., were conducted. According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the literature's quality was evaluated, and useful data was extracted. All statistical analyses were performed by RevMan5.3 software. RESULTS 13 eligible RCTs with a total of 1345 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The meta-analysis results showed that the 1-month response rate, 3-month response rate, 6-month response rate, and overall response rate of TRT with drugs for tinnitus were higher than that of drugs only (P < 0.05). The results demonstrated that the THI scale after the treatment period of TRT with medications for tinnitus was lower than that of drugs only (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Analysis of limited studies low-quality evidence with a high risk of bias showed that the TRT was an effective treatment for tinnitus, which could improve the response rate of tinnitus and reduce the THI scale. However, more multicenter RCTs with a large sample number and high quality should verify the conclusion mentioned above.

Abstract
Tinnitus is the perception of a phantom sound and the individual's reaction to it. Although much progress has been made, tinnitus remains an unresolved scientific and clinical issue, affecting more than 10% of the general population and having a high prevalence and socioeconomic burden. Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) are used to assist clinicians in their complex decision-making processes, having been proved that they improve healthcare delivery. In this paper, we present a CDSS for tinnitus, attempting to address the question which treatment approach is optimal for a particular patient based on specific parameters. The CDSS will be developed in the context of the EU-funded "UNITI" project and, after the project completion, it will be able to determine the suitability and expected attachment of a particular patient to a list of available clinical interventions, utilizing predictive and classification machine learning models.Clinical Relevance - The proposed clinically utilizable CDSS will be able to suggest the optimal treatment strategy for the tinnitus patient based on a set of heterogeneous data.
