Abstract
Current cancer therapies present serious drawbacks including severe side-effects and development of drug resistance. Strategies based on nanosized metallodrugs combine the structural diversity and non-classical modes of action of metal complexes with the selectivity arising from the unique interaction of nanoparticles with biological membranes. A new family of water-soluble copper(ii) carbosilane metallodendrimers was synthesized and characterized as a nanotechnological alternative to current therapies. The interactions occurring over time between the dendrimers, at different generations (G0 to G2) and with different Cu(ii) counter-ions (nitrate vs. chloride), and cell-membrane models (cethyl-trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) micelles and lecithin liposomes) were investigated using a computer-aided analysis of the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra. The EPR analysis provided structural and dynamical information on the systems indicating that the increase in generation and the change of the Cu(ii) contra-ion - from nitrate to chloride - produce an increased relative amount and strength of interaction of the dendrimer with the model membranes. Interestingly, the stabilization effect produced a lower toxicity towards cancer cells. The cytotoxic effect of Cu(ii) metallodendrimers was verified by an in vitro screening in a selection of tumor cell lines, revealing the impact of multivalency on the effectivity and selectivity of the metallodrugs. As a proof-of-concept, first-generation dendrimer G1-Cu(ONO2)2 was selected for in-depth in vitro and in vivo antitumor evaluation towards resistant prostate cancer. The Cu(ii)-metallodendrimers produced a significant tumor size reduction with no signs of toxicity during the experiment, confirming their promising potential as anticancer metallodrugs.

Abstract
Crystals of a new dimeric chloride-bridged cuprate(II) derived from pyridine-2,4-di-carb-oxy-lic acid were obtained solvothermally in the presence of piperazine and hydro-chloric acid. The crystal structure determination of the title salt, (C4H12N2)[Cu2(C7H4NO4)2Cl4], revealed one of the carboxyl groups of the original pyridine-2,4-di-carb-oxy-lic acid ligand to be protonated, whereas the other is deprotonated and binds together with the pyridine N atom to the CuII atom. The coordination environment of the CuII atom is distorted square-pyramidal. One of the chloride ligands bridges two metal cations to form a centrosymmetric dimer with two different Cu-Cl distances of 2.2632 (8) and 2.7853 (8) Å, whereby the longer distance is associated with the apical ligand. The remaining chloride ligand is terminal at one of the basal positions, with a distance of 2.2272 (9) Å. In the crystal, the dimers are linked by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, together with N-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl inter-actions involving the centrosymmetric organic cation, into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Further but weaker C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cl inter-actions consolidate the packing.

Abstract
Binary and ternary water soluble copper(II) complexes - [Cu(nphen)2(H2O)](NO3)2·H2O (1), [Cu(phen)2(H2O)](NO3)2 (2), [Cu(nphen)(l-tyr)(H2O)]NO3·2H2O (3), [Cu(phen)(tyr)(H2O)] NO3·2H2O (4) - and diquarternary salts of nphen and phen (nphen=5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline, phen=1,10-phenanthroline and tyr=l-tyrosine) have been synthesized and characterized by CHN analysis, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR and IR spectroscopy, thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The CT-DNA binding properties of these compounds have been investigated by thermal denaturation measurements, absorption and emission spectroscopy. The supercoiled pUC19 plasmid DNA cleavage activity of these compounds has been explored by agarose gel electrophoresis. The cytotoxicity of these compounds against MCF-7, Caco-2, A549 cancer cells and BEAS-2B healthy cells was also studied by using XTT method. The complexes 1-4 exhibit significant high cytotoxicity with low IC50 values in compared with cisplatin. The effect of the substituents of phen and coordinated amino acid in the above complexes are presented and discussed.

Abstract
The title compound, (C6H8N)2[CuCl4], is composed of two 3-methylpyridinium cation and one tetrachloridocuprate(II) anion. The geometry around the copper(II) ion is that of a distorted tetrahedron. In the crystal structure, the anions and cations are linked by three different N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. In addition, the crystal structure exhibits aromatic π–π interactions between the pyridinium rings of two discrete units [centroid–centroid distance = 3.704 (2) Å].
