Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a significant mental health concern affecting the overall well-being of adolescents and young adults. Recently, the prevalence of depression has increased among young people. Nonetheless, there is little research delving into the longitudinal epidemiology of adolescent depression over time. AIMS To investigate the longitudinal epidemiology of depression among adolescents and young adults aged 10-24 years. METHOD Our research focused on young people (aged 10-24 years) with depression, using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019. We explored the age-standardised prevalence, incidence and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of depression in different groups, including various regions, ages, genders and sociodemographic indices, from 1990 to 2019. RESULTS The prevalence, incidence and DALYs of depression in young people increased globally between 1990 and 2019. Regionally, higher-income regions like High-Income North America and Australasia recorded rising age-standardised prevalence and incidence rates, whereas low- or middle-income regions mostly saw reductions. Nationally, countries such as Greenland, the USA and Palestine reported the highest age-standardised prevalence and incidence rates in 2019, whereas Qatar witnessed the largest growth over time. The burden disproportionately affected females across age groups and world regions. The most prominent age effect on incidence and prevalence rates was in those aged 20-24 years. The depression burden showed an unfavourable trend in younger cohorts born after 1980, with females reporting a higher cohort risk than males. CONCLUSIONS Between 1990 and 2019, the general pattern of depression among adolescents varied according to age, gender, time period and generational cohort, across regions and nations.

Abstract
The global diabetes surge poses a critical public health challenge, emphasizing the need for effective glycemic control. However, rapid correction of chronic hyperglycemia can unexpectedly trigger microvascular complications, necessitating a reevaluation of the speed and intensity of glycemic correction. Theories suggest swift blood sugar reductions may cause inflammation, oxidative stress, and neurovascular changes, resulting in complications. Healthcare providers should cautiously approach aggressive glycemic control, especially in long-standing, poorly controlled diabetes. Preventing and managing these complications requires a personalized, comprehensive approach with education, monitoring, and interdisciplinary care. Diabetes management must balance short and long-term goals, prioritizing overall well-being. This editorial underscores the need for a personalized, nuanced approach, focusing on equilibrium between glycemic control and avoiding overcorrection.

Abstract
Background Our study examined the global, national, and regional trends in the incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) associated with older people's acute myeloid leukemia (AML) over a 30 years period. AML, which predominantly affects individuals aged 60-89, is known for its severity and unfavorable prognosis. By providing insights into the growing burden of AML, our research highlights the urgent need for effective interventions and support at various levels. Methods In this study, we analyzed older people with AML aged 60-89 using the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database for 2019. Our goal was to assess trends and characteristics by examining the incidence rate, mortality rate, DALYs, and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC). We aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the disease's trajectory and development. Results In 2019, the older age group of 60 to 89 years reported 61,559 new cases of AML, with the corresponding number of deaths being 53,620, and the estimated DALYs standing at 990,656. Over the last 30 years, the incidence rate of AML in this age bracket increased by 1.67 per 100,000 people, the mortality rate rose by 1.57 per 100,000 people, and the rate of DALYs, indicative of disease burden, climbed by 1.42 per 100,000 people. High Socio-demographic Index (SDI) regions, particularly high-income North America and Australia, had the highest incidence rates. Germany had the highest incidence rate among the 204 countries analyzed, while Monaco reported the highest mortality and DALY rates. Smoking, high body mass index, occupational exposure to benzene, and formaldehyde were identified as significant risk factors associated with mortality from older people with AML in 2019. Conclusion Our study showed that the incidence, mortality, and DALY rates of AML in the older population were strongly correlated with the SDI, and these rates have been steadily increasing. This had become an increasingly serious global health issue, particularly in areas with a high SDI. We highlighted the urgency to focus more on this disease and called for the prompt implementation of appropriate preventive and control measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To assess the prevalence trend and contributing factors of heart failure (HF) impairment with thalassemias at global, regional and national levels. METHODS Data on HF impairment with thalassemias was collected from the Global Burden of Disease study. The absolute number and prevalence of the disease were systematically collected for each year, and the estimated annual percentage changes (EAPC) in HF impairment were calculated by gender, region and country to measure temporal trends. RESULTS Thalassemias have caused a significant global burden since 1990, and the case number of HF related to thalassemias has been steadily increasing. The highest case number of HF impairments with thalassemias is observed in China (7739 cases) and the highest prevalence is in Pakistan (1.61 per 100,000) currently. Besides, the middle sociodemographic index (SDI) region carries the highest burden of comorbid disease yet exhibits the most evident trend for improvement across the five regions (EAPC = -.98). The burden of thalassemias and comorbid HF is generally higher in males than females with the gender gap growing chasm in the future. Besides, the hotspots of HF impairment with thalassemias have gradually shifted to low SDI regions, though middle SDI regions still hold a relatively higher prevalence (.37 per 100,000) across different regions. CONCLUSIONS The burden of thalassemias and accompanying HF, as well as their temporal trends, vary greatly across countries and regions. These findings can improve understanding of these conditions and guide policymakers in developing appropriate policies to address disparities between countries.

Abstract
Objectives We aimed to provide a timely, comprehensive, and reliable assessment of the burden of iron deficiency (ID) in children between 1990 and 2019 at the global, regional, and national levels to inform policymakers in developing locally appropriate health policies. Methods Data related to ID among children younger than 15 years old were analyzed by sex, age, year, socio-demographic index (SDI), and location according to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 (GBD 2019). Age-standardized rates were used to compare the burden between different regions and countries. Furthermore, the Joinpoint regression model was used to assess temporal trends from 1990 to 2019. Results In 2019, the number of prevalent cases and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) for ID in children were 391,491,699 and 13,620,231, respectively. The global age-standardized prevalence and DALY rates for childhood ID in 2019 were 20,146.35 (95% confidence interval: 19,407.85 to 20,888.54) and 698.90 (466.54 to 1015.31) per 100,000, respectively. Over the past 30 years, the global prevalence of ID among children has been highest in low-SDI regions, particularly in Western Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Eastern Sub-Saharan Africa. Since 1990, the prevalence and DALY of ID in children have been declining in most geographic regions. Nationally, Ecuador, China, and Chile have shown the most significant decreases in prevalence. The greatest decline in age-standardized DALY rate was observed in Ecuador, while Burkina Faso experienced the highest increase. Bhutan had the highest prevalence and DALY rates in 2019. On the age level, the prevalence was relatively higher among the <5 years age group. At the gender dimension, the prevalence of ID in children overall was more pronounced in girls than in boys, as was the case for DALY. Conclusion Although the burden of ID in children has been declining, this disease remains a major public health problem, especially in countries with low SDI. Children younger than 5 years of age are an important group for whom targeted measures are needed to reduce the burden of ID.

Abstract
Subcellular organelles dysfunction is implicated in various diseases, including metabolic diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. BAM15, a selective mitochondrial uncoupler, has emerged as a promising therapeutic agent due to its ability to enhance mitochondrial respiration and metabolic flexibility. By disrupting the coupling between electron transport and ATP synthesis, BAM15 dissipates the proton gradient, leading to increased mitochondrial respiration and energy expenditure. This review provides a comprehensive overview of BAM15, including its mechanism of action and potential therapeutic applications in diverse disease contexts. BAM15 has shown promise in obesity by increasing energy expenditure and reducing fat accumulation. In diabetes, it improves glycemic control and reverses insulin resistance. Additionally, BAM15 has potential in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, sepsis, and cardiovascular diseases by mitigating oxidative stress, modulating inflammatory responses, and promoting cardioprotection. The safety profile of BAM15 is encouraging, with minimal adverse effects and remarkable tolerability. However, challenges such as its high lipophilicity and the need for alternative delivery methods need to be addressed. Further research is necessary to fully understand the therapeutic potential of BAM15 and optimize its application in clinical settings.
