Abstract
We present the inhibitory properties of the R. pompana anthocyanin fraction (RPAF) and its major constituents on alpha-glucosidase (AG), pancreatic lipase (PL), HMG-CoA reductase, and ornithine decarboxylase (ODC). The effect of RPAF was also evaluated in ICR male mice subjected to oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and hypercaloric/atherogenic diet for 30 days. RP-HPLC/MS profiling revealed that RPAF contained five major anthocyanins and induced slight inhibition on PL and HMG-CoA reductase (IC50 , 245-338 μg mL-1 ) whereas strong activity on AG and ODC (IC50 , 130-133 μg mL-1 ) was observed. Kinetic studies and molecular docking with pelargonidin-3-O-rutinoside (P3R) on ODC, revealed changes in Km (0.9514-0.9746 mM) and Vmax (1.96-2.32 μmol mg-1 min-1 ) suggesting mixed inhibition and molecular interaction with two active sites of ODC. P3R showed antiproliferative activity (IC50, 46.5 μM) and decreased polyamine accumulation in DLD-1 cells. The results of OGTT confirmed that RPAF regulates postprandial glucose levels in diabetic animals which experienced a significant glucose depletion (30 %; p<0.001) from 30 to 120 min post-treatment. Prolonged supplementation of RPAF caused significant decrease (p<0.001) in plasma glucose, total cholesterol, LDL-c and triglycerides as well as significant increase (p<0.001) of HDL-c compared with normoglycemic untreated animals.

Abstract
Polyamines influence medically relevant processes in the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including virulence, biofilm formation and susceptibility to antibiotics. Although homospermidine synthase (HSS) is part of the polyamine metabolism in various strains of P. aeruginosa, neither its role nor its structure has been examined so far. The reaction mechanism of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+)-dependent bacterial HSS has previously been characterized based on crystal structures of Blastochloris viridis HSS (BvHSS). This study presents the crystal structure of P. aeruginosa HSS (PaHSS) in complex with its substrate putrescine. A high structural similarity between PaHSS and BvHSS with conservation of the catalytically relevant residues is demonstrated, qualifying BvHSS as a model for mechanistic studies of PaHSS. Following this strategy, crystal structures of single-residue variants of BvHSS are presented together with activity assays of PaHSS, BvHSS and BvHSS variants. For efficient homospermidine production, acidic residues are required at the entrance to the binding pocket (`ionic slide') and near the active site (`inner amino site') to attract and bind the substrate putrescine via salt bridges. The tryptophan residue at the active site stabilizes cationic reaction components by cation-π interaction, as inferred from the interaction geometry between putrescine and the indole ring plane. Exchange of this tryptophan for other amino acids suggests a distinct catalytic requirement for an aromatic interaction partner with a highly negative electrostatic potential. These findings substantiate the structural and mechanistic knowledge on bacterial HSS, a potential target for antibiotic design.

Abstract
The highly conserved bacterial homospermidine synthase (HSS) is a key enzyme of the polyamine metabolism of many proteobacteria including pathogenic strains such as Legionella pneumophila and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; The unique usage of NAD(H) as a prosthetic group is a common feature of bacterial HSS, eukaryotic HSS and deoxyhypusine synthase (DHS). The structure of the bacterial enzyme does not possess a lysine residue in the active center and thus does not form an enzyme-substrate Schiff base intermediate as observed for the DHS. In contrast to the DHS the active site is not formed by the interface of two subunits but resides within one subunit of the bacterial HSS. Crystal structures of Blastochloris viridis HSS (BvHSS) reveal two distinct substrate binding sites, one of which is highly specific for putrescine. BvHSS features a side pocket in the direct vicinity of the active site formed by conserved amino acids and a potential substrate discrimination, guiding, and sensing mechanism. The proposed reaction steps for the catalysis of BvHSS emphasize cation-π interaction through a conserved Trp residue as a key stabilizer of high energetic transition states.

Abstract
A Gram-staining-positive, catalase-positive, oxidase-negative, non-motile, non-flagellate and rod-shaped bacterium, was designated as DCY81(T), and isolated from soil of a ginseng field in Pocheon province, Republic of Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain DCY81(T) belonged to the genus Arthrobacter. Major fatty acid was anteiso-C15:0, while major polar lipids were diphosphatidyglycerol, phatidyglycerol, phosphatidylinositol, monogalactosyldiacylglycerol (GL1), and dimannosyldiacylglycerol (GL2). The dominant quinone was MK-9(H2). The peptidoglycan type was A3α with an L-Lys-L-Ala-L-Thr-L-Ala interpeptide bridge. The DNA-DNA hybridization relatedness between strain DCY81(T) and Arthrobacter siccitolerans LMG 27359(T) (98.2 %), Arthrobacter sulfonivorans JCM 13520(T) (97.81 %), Arthrobacter scleromae DSM 17756(T) (97.59 %), Arthrobacter oxydans KCTC 3383(T) (97.3 %) was 39.1 ± 0.2, 62.2 ± 1.6, 36.8 ± 1.1 and 48.3 ± 1.6 %, respectively which show that the genotypic separation of strain DCY81(T) from the closest reference strain of the genus Arthrobacter. The DNA G+C content was 65.2 mol%. The genotypic analysis, physiological, and chemotaxonomic results indicate that strain DCY81(T) represents a novel species of the genus Arthrobacter. Therefore, Arthrobacter ginsengisoli sp. nov., is proposed as the type strain (=KCTC 29225(T) = JCM 19357(T)).

Abstract
A sensitive method for the determination of polyamines in mammalian cells was described using electrospray ionization and time-of-flight mass spectrometer. This method was 50-fold more sensitive than the previous method using ionspray ionization and quadrupole mass spectrometer. The method employed the partial purification and derivatization of polyamines, but allowed a measurement of multiple samples which contained picomol amounts of polyamines. Time required for data acquisition of one sample was approximately 2 min. The method was successfully applied for the determination of reduced spermidine and spermine contents in cultured cells under the inhibition of aminopropyltransferases. In addition, a new proper internal standard was proposed for the tracer experiment using (15)N-labeled polyamines.

Abstract
A simple and highly sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of spermine (Spm) was established based on the ternary complex formation reaction of Spm with o-hydroxyhydroquinonephthalein (QP) as a xanthene dye and manganese(II) as a metal ion in the presence of a dispersion agent. The apparent molar absorptivity at 555 nm and the relative standard deviation of the proposed method were 1.4 x 10(5) dm(3) mol(-1) cm(-1) and 0.50% (n = 10), respectively. In the method for flow-injection analysis (FIA), which employs a single-channel flow manifold system, a good linear relationship was observed over the 2 - 20 pg microl(-1) range of Spm by direct injection.

Abstract
The extraction of ornithine, lysine, putrescine, cadaverine, 1,7-diaminoheptane, spermidine and spermine from biological tissues was optimized for HPLC quantitation as their o-phthalaldehyde/ethanethiol/fluorenylmethyl chloroformate (OPA/ET/FMOC) derivatives. In applying perchloric acid deproteinization two approaches have been followed: (i) deproteinization with subsequent neutralization by potassium hydroxide and lyophilization, and (ii) deproteinization without neutralization and lyophilization. Neutralization and lyophilization resulted in the loss of free biogenic amines. HPLC analysis of ornithine (Orn), lysine (Lys), putrescine (Put), cadaverine (Cad), 1,7-diaminoheptane (Dah), spermidine (Spd) and spermine (Spm) content of biological tissues as their OPA/ET/FMOC derivatives was performed in the supernatant of perchloric acid-deproteinized samples (model solutions and tissues) with an average reproducibility of < or =2.6% relative standard deviation (RSD), including recovery of sample treatment and chromatography.

Abstract
Through the flow injection analysis experiments, we discovered that an unsaturated complex of Cu(II) and polyamines (spermine, spermidine, putrescine) had a strongly catalytic effect on luminol-H(2)O(2) chemiluminescence (CL) reaction, and that the CL intensity is proportional to the concentrations of polyamines. Based on the automatic formation of an unsaturated complex of polyamines and Cu(II) when the solution containing polyamines passed through a column packed with solid Cu(OH)(2), a new flow injection chemiluminescence analysis method was proposed for the determination of polyamines. The effects of pH, buffer concentration, the concentration of chemiluminescence reagent, and the influence of mixing coil length were examined. Under optimal conditions, the linear range was from 1.0 x 10(-7) mol L(-1) to 1.0 x 10(-5) mol L(-1), and the detection limits were 0.17, 0.38, 0.44 pmol for spermine, spermidine, and putrescine, respectively. Compared with other methods, the advantages of this method include convenience, time-saving and low cost.

Abstract
Polyamines and their acetylated derivatives are a prerequisite for cellular metabolism and considered to be essential for proliferation and differentiation of the rapidly renewing intestinal mucosa. However, their role during mucosal inflammation is less clear. Polyamine concentrations were determined in isolated colonic epithelial cells (CECs) from endoscopic biopsies from 26 patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and 40 controls as well as colon samples from mice with and without acute or chronic dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis. In patients with ulcerative colitis, CEC spermidine and N8-acetylspermidine levels were significantly enhanced and spermine levels were reduced compared with healthy controls. A correlation of polyamine levels of patients with IBD with their corresponding inflammatory index revealed that increased concentrations of spermidine, N8-acetylspermidine, and N1-acetylspermine were found in CECs from the most severe inflamed mucosal areas. Using acute and chronic DSS colitis as a model of mucosal inflammation, we found enhanced levels of spermidine and spermine in acute colitis, whereas in chronic inflammation, CEC spermine concentrations were decreased. Our data indicate a lack of the anti-inflammatory polyamine spermine in severe ulcerative colitis and chronic DSS colitis, which may aggravate the disease. Increased spermidine and N8-acetylspermidine levels reflect increased uptake and metabolism likely due to accelerated proliferation and regeneration of CECs.

Abstract
A method for simultaneous determination of polyamines and catecholamines in cell extracts by micellar electrokinetic capillary chromatography with UV detection at 254 nm was established at the first time. The polyamines (putrescine, spermidine and spermine) and catecholamines (dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine and epinephrine) were extracted from PC-12 cells and were derivatized with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate. Different derivatization conditions such as temperature, ratio of derivatization reagents and incubation time were investigated to find the best reaction condition which gave the highest detection sensitivity for polyamines and catecholamines. The influence of running buffer and additives on the separation such as pH, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) concentrations and various additives was also investigated. Separation was achieved within 20 min with good repeatability in a 100mM boric acid buffer containing 10mM SDS and 10mM 18-crown-6 at a pH of 9.5. The detection limit ranged from 1.0 x 10(-7) to 9.0 x 10(-7) M, which is sufficient for determination of polyamines and catecholamines in many cell extracts. This technique can be easily applied to polyamine-related anticancer drug studies or clinical follow-ups after each dosage of these anticancer drugs, since these drugs not only have great inhibition on polyamine levels in blood, but also have a large influence on catecholamine levels in blood.

Abstract
A liquid chromatographic method for highly sensitive and selective fluorometric determination of polyamines (putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine and spermine) in human urine is described. This method is based on an intramolecular excimer-forming fluorescence derivatization with a pyrene reagent, 4-(1-pyrene)butanoyl chloride (PBC), followed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography. The method offers higher sensitivity for determination of spermidine and spermine than previously reported method utilizing 4-(1-pyrene)butyric acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester as a derivatization reagent. Samples containing free polyamines in diluted human urine were directly derivatized with PBC and separated on an octyl column. The derivatives were detected at excitation 345 and emission 475 nm wavelengths. For determination of total polyamine content, the conjugated polyamines were first hydrolyzed in 4 M HCl. The detection limits (signal-to-noise ratio = 3) for polyamines in urine were 1.1-3.4 pmol/mL. At optimized derivatization and chromatographic conditions, interferences such as biogenic monoamines gave no peaks or the peaks did not interfere with the peaks of polyamine derivatives. In conclusion, the present derivatization method allows direct determination of polyamines in human urine samples without the need for sample clean-up procedures.

Abstract
The aliphatic polyamines, putrescine, spermidine and spermine, are normal cell constituents that play important roles in cell proliferation and differentiation. The equilibrium between cellular uptake and release and the balanced activities of biosynthetic and catabolic enzymes of polyamines are essential for normal homeostasis in the proliferation and functions of cells and tissues. However, the intracellular polyamine content increases in hyperplastic or neoplastic growth. Although the involvement of polyamines in physiological and pathological cell proliferation and differentiation has been well established, the role they play is quite different in relation to cell systems and animal models and is dependent on inducer agents and stimuli. Also, the experimental procedures used to deplete polyamines have been shown to influence the cell responses. In this paper, the assay methods currently in use for polyamines are reviewed and compared with respect to sensitivity, reproducibility and applicability to routine analysis. The relevance of polyamine metabolism and the uptake/release process in many physiological and pathological processes is highlighted, and the cellular polyamine pathways are discussed in relation to the possible diagnostic and therapeutic significance of these mediators.

Abstract
Extracellular matrices, like collagen layers, play an important role in preventing dedifferentiation of hepatocytes in long-term culture experiments. It has also been shown that polyamines are crucial for cell growth and liver differentiation - regeneration. Primary cultured hepatocytes with their low mitotic activity might be a valuable tool in studying the role of polyamines in differentiation. Here, our goal was to investigate whether an extracellular cell culture matrix can influence intracellular polyamine levels in human hepatocytes during long-term culture. Primary human hepatocytes were isolated from surgical tissue resections and were maintained either in single collagen (SG) or double collagen gel (DG) layer (sandwich) culture systems. Cell viability and function were examined and intracellular polyamine levels were measured using a highly sensitive high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Hepatocytes showed high viability in both culture systems used, but albumin secretion was diminished in SG cultured hepatocytes after 14 days. In general, total intracellular polyamine levels of hepatocytes decreased markedly in both SG and DG within the first days of culture, but remained constant until day 21 with a SG/DG ratio of about 1.4. Individual polyamines levels were dependent on the culture time and system, where spermine decreased and putrescine increased in both SG and DG over time (day 14), but spermidine increased only in DG. Our results suggest that polyamine levels, in particular putrescine, might be important regulators of hepatocyte specific function in vitro and therefore serve as a marker of differentiation for cultivated human hepatocytes.

Abstract
We examined the effects of the local infusion of kainic acid (KA), by reverse dialysis in the rat striatum, on the concentration of polyamines in the extracellular striatal compartment and in tissue. KA infusion markedly increased (3-fold) extracellular putrescine (PUT) concentration, which reached its maximum at the end of the dialysis experiments (6 h). Tissue PUT concentration was also increased (2-fold) in the striatum perfused with KA but not in the contralateral side. Extracellular spermidine (SD) concentration but not tissue SD concentration was affected by KA. The increase in PUT was accompanied by histological damage around the probe and by an increase in ornithine decarboxylase content, as assessed by immunohistochemistry. These results indicate that in the first stages of the excitotoxic lesion, there is an increase in the extracellular concentrations of PUT and SD.

Abstract
Glucocorticoids are well-known apoptotic agents in certain classes of lymphoid cell malignancies. Reduction of intracellular polyamine levels by use of inhibitors that block polyamine synthesis slows or inhibits growth of many cells in vitro. Several such inhibitors have shown efficacy in clinical trials, though the toxicity of some compounds has limited their usefulness. We have tested the effects of combinations of the glucocorticoid dexamethasone (Dex) and two polyamine inhibitors, difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) and methyl glyoxal bis guanylhydrazone (MGBG), on the clonal line of human acute lymphoblastic leukemia cells, CEM-C7-14. Dex alone kills these cells, though only after a delay of at least 24 hours. We also evaluated a partially glucocorticoid-resistant c-Myc-expressing CEM-C7-14 clone. We show that Dex downregulates ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), the rate-limiting enzyme in polyamine synthesis. Pretreatment with the ODC inhibitor DFMO, followed by addition of Dex, enhances steroid-evoked kill slightly. The combination of pretreatment with sublethal concentrations of both DFMO and the inhibitor of S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase, MGBG, followed by addition of Dex, results in strong synergistic cell kill. Both the rapidity and extent of cell kill are enhanced compared to the effects of Dex alone. These results suggest that use of such combinations in vivo may result in apoptosis of malignant cells with lower overall toxicity.

Abstract
Spermine, spermidine, putrescine and cadaverine are aliphatic amines widely spread in the human body. Their concentrations together with their acetyl conjugates increase significantly in the biological fluids and the affected tissues of cancer patients. Their concentrations decrease with the improvement in the patient's condition on multiple therapy. Various chromatographic techniques are frequently used in monitoring concentrations of di- and polyamines in cancer. Among these techniques, thin-layer chromatography and liquid chromatography using pre- or postcolumn derivatization, separating on a reversed-phase or an ion-exchange column are the most commonly used. Besides, high-resolution capillary column gas chromatography (GC) is increasingly used over packed column GC, and in recent years, capillary zone electrophoresis has also gained some importance in polyamine determinations. The review examines the prospects and the limitations of polyamines as cancer markers using chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques.

Abstract
The molecular species of dihydrosphingosines and phytosphingosines and their 1-phosphates with carbon chain lengths from 16 to 20 have been tagged with the fluorescent amino group reagent, 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate. All these derivatives could be resolved by reversed phase HPLC on a C18 column. A convenient one-pot method is described whereby lipid extracts from strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae containing carbon chain length homologs of sphingolipid long chain bases and their phosphorylated derivatives were directly reacted with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate, ester lipids were deacylated, and the reaction mixtures were subjected to liquid chromatography. Five molecular species of both sphingolipid long chain bases and their phosphorylated derivatives are for the first time separated and analyzed. The procedure is quite sensitive, requiring only approximately 10(8) wild-type cells.

Abstract
A selective procedure for qualitative and quantitative analysis of ten polyamines by micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC) was developed. Benzoylated polyamines and acetylpolyamines in micellar phase of SDS (10 mM) were separated at 25 degrees C by 20 mM borate buffer pH 8.5, containing 8% ethanol, with an applied voltage of 25 kV (5 microA) and then detected at 198 nm. The experimental factors and operational parameters were optimized by performing analysis at different surfactant concentrations, pH, voltage and temperature with and without ethanol. The repeatibility of migration times and peak heights is a peculiarity of the method here described.

Abstract
The paper described a method for improving the hydrolysis of conjugated polyamines in PH fraction, isolated from the lichen Evernia prunastri, as well as the optimization of dansylation procedure of these polyamines on the basis of the pH value to which derivatization is achieved. Dansylated polyamines have been later separated by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a gradient elution. Hydrolysis of conjugates requires acid treatment at room temperature rather than at 110 degrees C, as usually described. Dansylation is improved at high pH values, whereas removal of phenolics (mainly evernic acid), from the conjugates requires low pH values.

Abstract
Biogenic amines are conveniently divided into aliphatic monoamines, aliphatic di- and polyamines and aromatic amines. These compounds are shown to fulfill an array of roles in cellular metabolism. Thus, amines are needed for growth and development and their metabolism appears to be coordinated with the cell cycle. Di- and polyamines, among which are putrescine, spermidine and spermine, are ubiquitous polycationic molecules that occur in all living cells. However, plants accumulate a number of specific related compounds under free or conjugated forms. In plant tissues, the molecular diversity combined with the fact that amine contents are highly responsive to developmental and environmental signals encouraged analysts to develop specific procedures for their isolation and characterization. The main goals were to develop high performance routine procedures in terms of selectivity, repeatability and detectability with minimum running costs. Domains of application concern not only fundamental aspects of amine biochemistry and physiology in plants but also increasing needs in the control of food and beverage quality from plant origin. The present review reports the most recent advances in extraction, identification and quantitation of amines in plant tissues with special interest in the analysis of original and uncommon metabolites. Emphasis is directed towards chromatographic and electrophoretic separation methodologies and new detection technologies of both derivatized and underivatized compounds including photometry, fluorometry, amperometry and mass spectrometry.

Abstract
We introduce a novel approach in highly selective and sensitive fluorescence derivatization of polyamines. This method is based on an intramolecular excimer-forming fluorescence derivatization with a pyrene reagent, 4-(1-pyrene)butyric acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester (PSE), followed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Polyamines, having two to four amino moieties in a molecule, were converted to the corresponding dipyrene- to tetrapyrene-labeled derivatives by reaction (100 degrees C, 20 min) with PSE. The derivatives afforded intramolecular excimer fluorescence (450-520 nm), which can clearly be discriminated from the monomer (normal) fluorescence (360-420 nm) emitted from PSE, its hydrolysate and monopyrene-labeled derivatives of monoamines. The structures of the derivatives were confirmed by HPLC with mass spectrometry, and the emission of excimer fluorescence could be proved by spectrofluorometry and time-resolved fluorometry. The PSE derivatives of four polyamines [putrescine (Put), cadaverine (Cad), spermidine (Spd), and spermine (Spm)] could be separated by reversed-phase HPLC on a C8 column with linear gradient elution. The detection limits (signal-to-noise ratio of 3) for the polyamines were 1 (Put), 1 (Cad), 5 (Spd), and 8 (Spm) fmol on the column. Furthermore, the present method was so selective that biogenic monoamines gave no peak in the chromatogram.

Abstract
A rapid, resolutive and reproducible reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) method was developed for polyamines and acetylpolyamines by adopting pre-column derivatization with benzoyl chloride. In a single run lasting less than 15 min ten polyamines were separated as well as traces of benzoic acid, methylbenzoate and benzoic anhydride. These contaminants, produced during the derivatization reaction, were almost all eliminated by washing steps envisaged in the same procedure. This simple and sensitive method can be applied to routine determination of polyamines in biological samples. A fine application of this procedure to the determination of endogenous content of polyamines in chick embryo retina was reported.

Abstract
We describe here an application of ionspray ionization-mass spectrometry (IS-MS) for simultaneous determination of putrescine, spermidine, and spermine without the need for coupling with other separation techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography or capillary electrophoresis. Because it was essential to increase the mass of these compounds to eliminate contaminated low-mass ions, heptafluorobutyryl (HFB) derivatives were chosen. It was found that each HFB-polyamine appeared as a single major cation carrying an ammonium ion in a solution of 50% acetonitrile-water containing 0.5% ammonium acetate at an orifice potential of 20 V. Under these conditions, the three polyamines after addition of 15N-labeled polyamines as internal standards, followed by heptafluorobutylation, were determined simultaneously. It was shown, using a sample injection bulb set between the syringe drive and ionspray probe, that the analysis time for data acquisition was about 3 min and the sensitivity was about 10 fmol. In addition, polyamines in rat liver were determined by this method after simple fractionation with a small column of CM-cellulose with reasonable accuracy and precision. Behaviors of acetylated polyamines were also described, and the results showed that the acetylated polyamines would become additional target compounds in the present method.

Abstract
A new high-performance capillary electrophoretic (HPCE) method with an on-line mode in-capillary derivatization (ICD) procedure for determinations of some amines using 20 mmol/L sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) - 2 mmol/L o-phthalaldehyde (OPA) - 2 mmol/L N-acetylcysteine (NAC) - 20 mmol/L phosphate-borate buffer [9] has previously been shown. Although this technique offers direct fluorescence detection of free amines without any derivatization procedures before or after HPCE separation, the presence of spermidine (Spd) is difficult to detect due to low fluorescence intensity. The purpose of this study is to improve the detection sensitivity of Spd by reoptimizing this method with regard to the run buffer; the reoptimized method was applied to the determination of Spd in human plasma. To enhance the fluorescence intensity of the Spd signal, it is effective to use the run buffer in the presence of both beta-cyclodextrin (beta-CD: 8.8 mmol/L) and NAC at high concentration (16 mmol/L). By contrast, the intensity was remarkably decreased when SDS was used in the presence of beta-CD. After ultrafiltrating (UF) spiked human plasma with Spd, UF plasma was directly analyzed using the reoptimized method. Spd peak was detected and separated from the other peaks of blank plasma. The present method gave good linearity (r = 0.999), reproducibility (3.85% coefficient of variation at 5 micromol/L level; n = 10) and specificity. The detection limit and lower limit of quantitation is for 0.2 micromol/L and 1 micromol/L, respectively.
