Abstract
Excessive consumption of paracetamol (PA) and 4-aminophenol (4-AP) can have harmful effects on the human body. This study developed a novel electroanalytical technique that utilizes the nanocomposites of poly azovan blue (PAB)-decorated graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4), deposited onto a screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE), for the concurrent sensing of PA and 4-AP. The fabricated g-C3N4@PAB/SPCE exhibited exceptional synergistic effects, such as a high active electrochemical surface area and excellent electron transfer properties. The electrochemical behavior of g-C3N4@PAB/SPCE for simultaneous PA and 4-AP sensing was evaluated in the linear dynamic ranges of 0.08-75 and 0.05-90 μM, with the detection limits (S/N = 3) of 0.011 and 0.016 μM and sensitivities of 2.974 and 2.857 μA/μM/cm-2 for PA and 4-AP, respectively. Additionally, g-C3N4@PAB/SPCE showed long-term stability, high reproducibility (RSD = 2.17%, n = 4), and superior anti-interference capabilities. Finally, when g-C3N4@PAB/SPCE was tested for simultaneously sensing both PA and 4-AP in tap water and artificial urine models, it exhibited satisfactory recoveries, demonstrating its potential use for various industrial and clinical applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND As a common industrial raw material and chemical intermediate, p-Aminophenol (pAP) is recognized as a serious pollutant that poses harm to both the environment and human health. The traditional detection methods for pAP have the advantages of good selectivity and high sensitivity, but their complex operation and time-consuming defects limit their application in on-site detection. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a simple, low-cost, rapid and high-sensitivity method for the detection of pAP. RESULTS Noble metal nanoparticles have been widely used in colorimetric sensing because of their simplicity and practicality. Herein, we presented a simple, excellent sensitive and selective colorimetric method for high-performance detection of pAP based on Cu-Au nanoparticles (Cu-Au NPs) and KIO3. In the presence of pAP, KIO3 was reduced to I2, which subsequently chemically adsorbed onto Cu-Au NPs surface and induced the dispersion and reorganization of Cu-Au NPs, along with prominent color change of the dispersion from gray-blue to pink and the transformation of Cu-Au NPs from chain-like aggregates to individual dispersed, irregular, subspherical nanoparticles. The mechanism was verified by TEM, DLS, Zeta potential, UV-vis and XPS. Meanwhile, Cu-Au NPs probe can rapidly detect pAP within 25 min, the limit of detection of pAP probe is 5 μM by the naked eyes and 0.03 μM by UV-vis absorption spectrum. SIGNIFICANCE AND NOVELTY This is the first colorimetric assay for pAP based on Cu-Au NPs probe. The satisfactory linearity (R2 = 0.9984) indicates that the colorimetric probe based on Cu-Au NPs and KIO3 can be utilized for quantitative detection of pAP. The detection results of pAP in real environmental water samples, urine samples and paracetamol tables demonstrate the practicability of pAP colorimetric probe.

Abstract
Because of the widespread acetaminophen usage and the danger of harmful overdosing effects, developing appropriate procedures for its quantitative and qualitative assay has always been an intriguing and fascinating problem. A quick, inexpensive, and environmentally friendly approach based on direct voltage anodic graphite rod exfoliation in the presence of inorganic salt aqueous solution ((NH4)2SO4-0.3 M) has been established for the preparation of nitrogen-doped graphene (exf-NGr). The XRD analysis shows that the working material appears as a mixture of few (76.43%) and multi-layers (23.57%) of N-doped graphenes. From XPS, the C/O ratio was calculated to be 0.39, indicating a significant number of structural defects and the existence of multiple oxygen-containing groups at the surface of graphene sheets caused by heteroatom doping. Furthermore, the electrochemical performances of glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) modified with exf-NGr for acetaminophen (AMP) detection and quantification have been assessed. The exf-NGr/GCE-modified electrode shows excellent reproducibility, stability, and anti-interfering characteristics with improved electrocatalytic activity over a wide detection range (0.1-100 µM), with a low limit for AMP detection (LOD = 3.03 nM). In addition, the developed sensor has been successfully applied in real sample analysis for the AMP quantification from different commercially available pharmaceutical formulations.

Abstract
To enlarge the perspective of nanozyme, 2-dimensional Co3O4 stabilizing Rh nano composite (2D Co3O4@Rh NC) was identified and developed first by one-pot surfactant-aided oxido-reduction. By virtue of the synergetic-reinforcing oxidase activity between 2D Co3O4 substrate and Rh nano particles, the obtained 2D Co3O4@Rh NC could catalyze the oxidation of chromogenic substrate 3,3',5,5,'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) to blue oxTMB with quite a low Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) of 0.018 mM and a quick vmax of 6.45 × 10-8 M s-1, expressing superior oxidase-like catalysis with a wide temperature range from 20 to 60 °C. Importantly, either bioactive urea or toxic p-aminophenol (p-Ap) could exclusively alter the existed state of oxTMB with differentiable color changes. Under the optimized conditions, 2D Co3O4@Rh NC was successfully applied for ratiometric colorimetric sensing urea and p-Ap in environmental water, soil and urine samples with low detection limits (1.1 μM for urea and 0.68 μM for p-Ap) and satisfactory recoveries (96.0-105.8%). The synergetic enhanced oxidase-like activity of 2D Co3O4@Rh NC and the different reaction mechanisms of the 2D Co3O4@Rh NC-TMB system to urea and p-Ap were investigated. Not only does the work provide an efficient way for sensing organic pollution of p-Ap, it will offer an efficient potential for diagnosing urea-related diseases on clinical medical testing in future.

Abstract
Simultaneous electrochemical determination of 4-aminophenol (4-AP) and acetaminophen (ACOP) is crucial due to their high toxicity when are overused. Herein, a novel electrocatalyst of nitrogen-doped carbon coated CoNi alloy (CoNi@CN) is derived from bimetallic CoNi(BDC)2(DABCO) for the first time. A series of characterizations demonstrate that composite has been successfully synthesized, and all elements are evenly distributed in the catalyst. The optimal sensor based on Co1Ni1@CN-700 exhibits two wide linear responses for 4-AP (0.05-60 μM and 60-250 μM) and ACOP (0.05-40 μM and 40-150 μM) with the lowest detection limit of 5.2 nM and 3.8 nM compared with current known reports. Moreover, the sensor has superior reproducibility, selectivity and stability. In addition, the wonderful recoveries also are obtained when sensor is used to detect 4-AP and ACOP in real samples, illustrating that electrochemical sensor has great prospect in the clinical application.

Abstract
A new strategy has been developed for the determination of trace lead ions (Pb2+) based on hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) laden with point defect. The defect-laden boron nitride (D-BN) was synthesized by a thermal polymerization route, in which melamine borate was used as a precursor. The defect microstructure was confirmed by photoluminescence (PL) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. As compared with h-BN, the D-BN-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) showed an enhanced electrochemical response towards Pb2+ peaking at - 0.551 V (vs. SCE), which was evidenced by linear sweep anodic stripping voltammetry (LSASV) results. The point defect plays a pivotal role in the electrocatalytic reaction process, which can mediate the electronic structure and surface properties of h-BN. Accordingly, the sensor presented a low detection limit of 0.15 μg/L towards Pb2+ and a wide linear response concentration range from 0.5 to 400 μg/L (correlation coefficient = 0.995). In view of its superior selectivity, stability, and reproducibility, the proposed method was applied for Pb2+ determination in real samples and exhibited satisfactory results. This work provides insight for the construction of electrochemical sensor with high-performance by engineering defects of modifying materials. Defect-loaden h-BN exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic redox reaction towards lead ions and thus a novel Pb2+ sensor with high performances was constructed.

Abstract
Paracetamol is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug widely used in pharmaceutical applications for its sturdy, antipyretic and analgesic action. However, an overdose of paracetamol can cause fulminant hepatic necrosis and other toxic effects. Thus, the development of advantageous analytical tools to detect and determine paracetamol is required. Due to simplicity, higher sensitivity and selectivity as well as costefficiency, electrochemical sensors were fully investigated in last decades. This review describes the advancements made in the development of electrochemical sensors for the paracetamol detection and quantification in pharmaceutical and biological samples. The progress made in electrochemical sensors for the selective detection of paracetamol in the last 10 years was examined, with a special focus on highly innovative features introduced by nanotechnology. As the literature is rather extensive, we tried to simplify this work by summarizing and grouping electrochemical sensors according to the by which manner their substrates were chemically modified and the analytical performances obtained.

Abstract
This work demonstrates a specific and reliable HPLC with diode array detection (DAD) method for the simultaneous estimation of paracetamol (PAR) and chlorzoxazone (CZ) in the presence of five of their degradation products and toxic impurities; namely; 4-aminophenol (AP), 4-nitrophenol (NP), acetanilide (AT), 4-chloroacetanilide (CA) and 2-amino-4-chlorophenol (ACP). Successful chromatographic separation was accomplished using Waters Symmetry C8 column (3.9 × 150 mm, 5 μm) with gradient elution of the mobile phase consisting of 0.05 M phosphate buffer pH 7.5 and methanol. The gradient elution started with 5% (by volume) methanol ramped up linearly to 50% in 10 min, and then maintained at this percentage afterward till the end of the run. The mobile phase was pumped at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The multiple wavelength detector was adjusted at 244 and 285 nm to quantify PAR and CZ, respectively. Additionally, the wavelength 270 nm was found suitable for monitoring the separation of the entire mixture of PAR, CZ, and their impurities. Seven peaks eluted with excellent resolution at retention times 3.4, 5.7, 8.0, 10.1, 10.8, 13.5, and 14.4 min for AP, PAR, NP, AT, ACP, CZ, and CA, respectively. Performance of the proposed method was validated with respect to linearity, range, precision, accuracy, specificity, robustness, detection, and quantitation limits. Calibration curves were linear in the ranges of 10-75 and 10-100 µg/mL for PAR and CZ, respectively with correlation coefficients not less than 0.9998. The proposed method proved to be specific and stability indicating by the resolution of both drugs from their degradation products and toxic impurities. Validated HPLC method was successfully applied to the analysis of PAR and CZ in their combined capsules dosage form, and assay results were favorably compared with a published reference HPLC method. DAD served as an efficient tool for peak identity and purity verification.

A Facile In-Situ Development of L-Valine Film onto the Surface of Carbon Paste Electrode Towards the Detection of Environmentally Hazardous 4-Amino Phenol. Z PHYS CHEM 2021; 235:359-76. Abstract
Abstract
A small scale of environmentally hazardous 4-aminophenol can show significant impact on human health. Hence, in the present work, we have designed L-Valine film (Vf) modified carbon paste electrode (Vf/CPE) for the determination of 4-aminophenol. Herein, a facile in-situ L-Valine film was developed by electrochemical polymerization method onto the surface of bare carbon paste electrode (BCPE) with the help of cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. A two-folds of electrochemical peak current enhancement was achieved at Vf/CPE in comparison with BCPE towards the determination of 4-aminophenol in optimum pH 7.0 of phosphate buffer solution (PBS). This was achieved due to the large surface area and conductive nature of Vf/CPE, which was concluded through the techniques of cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The effect of pH of buffer and scan rate studies were successfully studied. Morphological changes of BCPE and Vf/CPE was studied with the help of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The formation of Vf on CPE was also analyzed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra. Under the optimized conditions, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) values of 4-aminophenol were estimated with the aid of chronoamperometry (CA) technique and was found to be 9.8 μM and 32 μM, respectively. Finally the proposed method was found to have satisfactory repeatability, reproducibility and stability results with low relative standard deviation (RSD) values.

Abstract
Schiff bases and their transition metal complexes are inexpensive and easy to synthesize. These compounds display several structural and electronic features that allow their application in numerous research fields. Over the last three decades, electroanalytical scientists of various areas have developed electrochemical sensors from many compounds. The present review discusses the applicability of Schiff bases, their transition metal complexes and new materials containing these compounds as electrode modifiers in sensors to detect analytes of forensic, pharmaceutical and environmental interest. In forensic sciences, Schiff bases are mainly used to analyze illicit drugs: chemical reactions involving Schiff bases can help to elucidate illicit drug production and to determine analytes in seized samples. In the environmental area, given that most methodologies provide Limit of Detection (LOD) values below the values recommended by regulatory agencies, Schiff bases constitute a promising strategy. As for pharmaceutical applications, Schiff bases represent an approach for analysis of complex biological samples containing low levels of the target analytes in the presence of a large quantity of interfering compounds. This review will show that new highly specific materials can be synthesized based on Schiff bases and applied in the pharmaceutical industry, toxicological studies, electrocatalysis and biosensors. Most literature papers have reported on Schiff bases combined with carbon paste to give a chemically modified electrode that is easy and inexpensive to produce and which displays specific and selective sensing capacity for different applications.
