Abstract
In purine metabolism, the xanthine oxidoreductase enzyme converts hypoxanthine (HXN) to xanthine (XN) and XN to uric acid (UA). This leads to the deposition of UA crystals in several parts of the body and the serum UA level might be associated with various multifunctional disorders. The dietary intake of caffeine (CF) and ascorbic acid (AA) decreases the UA level in the serum, which leads to cellular damage. Hence, it is highly needed to monitor the UA level in the presence of AA, XN, HXN, and CF and vice versa. Considering this sequence of complications, the present paper reports the fabrication of an electrochemical sensor using low-cost N-doped carbon dots (CDs) for the selective and simultaneous determination of UA in the presence of AA, XN, HXN, and CF at the physiological pH. The colloidal solution of CDs was prepared by the pyrolysis of asparagine and fabricated on a GC electrode by cycling the potential from -0.20 to +1.2 V in a solution containing CDs and 0.01 M H2SO4. Here, the surface -NH2 functionalities of CDs were used to make a thin film of CDs on the GC electrode. FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the involvement of the -NH2 group in the formation of the CD film. HR-TEM analysis depicts that the formed CDs showed spherical particles with a size of 1.67 nm and SEM analysis exhibits the 89 nm CD film on the GC electrode surface. The fabricated CD film was successfully used for the sensitive and selective determination of UA. The determination of UA was achieved selectively in a mixture consisting of AA, XN, HXN, and CF with 50-fold high concentration. The CDs-film fabricated electrode has several benefits over the bare electrode: (i) well-resolved oxidation peaks for five analytes, (ii) boosted sensitivity, (iii) shifted oxidation as well as on-set potentials toward less positive potentials, and (iv) high stability. The practical utility of the present sensor was tested by simultaneously determining the multifactorial disorders-causing agents in human fluids. The electrocatalyst developed in the present study is sustainable and can be used for multiple analyses; besides, the electrochemical method used for the fabrication of the CD film is environmentally benign.

Abstract
A highly sensitive colorimetric sensing strategy based on enzyme@metal-organic framework (GAA@Cu-MOF) and IrO2/MnO2 nanocomposite was exploited innovatively for screening of α-glucosidase (GAA) inhibitors. IrO2/MnO2 nanocomposite exhibits excellent oxidase-mimicking activity which can directly catalyze the oxidation of 3,3,5,5,-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) into a blue product with an absorption maximum at 652 nm. And GAA@Cu-MOF can decompose L-ascorbic acid-2-O-α-D-glucopyranosyl (AAG) to ascorbic acid (AA). The produced AA can destroy the IrO2/MnO2 nanocomposite and reduce its oxidase-like activity. However, the generation of AA is restricted when GAA inhibitors are added to the system, which allows the oxidase-like activity of the IrO2/MnO2 nanocomposite to be maintained. In view of this, a method for screening of GAA inhibitors was developed. In addition to enhancing the stability of GAA, the method can also effectively avoid the potential interference of H2O2 in the screening process of GAA inhibitors, which helps to improve the sensitivity of the method. Therefore, highly sensitive determination for acarbose and ascorbic acid are achieved with detection limits of 6.27 nM and 1.23 μM, respectively. The proposed method was successfully applied to screen potential GAA inhibitors from oleanolic acid derivatives. Graphical abstract.

Abstract
A metal-organic gel (MOG) similar in constitution to MIL-100 (Fe) but containing a lower connectivity ligand (5-aminoisophthalate) was integrated with an isophthalate functionalized graphene (IG). The IG acted as a structure-directing templating agent, which also induced conductivity of the material. The MOG@IG was pyrolyzed at 600°C to obtain MGH-600, a hybrid of Fe/Fe3C/FeOx enveloped by graphene. MGH-600 shows a hierarchical pore structure, with micropores of 1.1 nm and a mesopore distribution between 2 and 6 nm, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area amounts to 216 m2/g. Furthermore, the MGH-600 composite displays magnetic properties, with bulk saturation magnetization value of 130 emu/g at room temperature. The material coated on glassy carbon electrode can distinguish between molecules with the same oxidation potential, such as dopamine in presence of ascorbic acid and revealed a satisfactory limit of detection and limit of quantification (4.39 × 10-7 and 1.33 × 10-6 M, respectively) for the neurotransmitter dopamine.

Abstract
AIM AND OBJECTIVE Methyldopa is one of the medications that is used for the treatment of hypertension. Therefore, the determination of methyldopa in the presence of other biological components is essential. In this work, a promising electrochemical sensor based on CoFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode (CoFe2O4/GCE) was developed for electrochemical determination of methyldopa in the presence of uric acid. Cobalt ferrite nanoparticles were synthesized via chemical method. MATERIALS AND METHODS Characterizing the CoFe2O4 was investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and cyclic voltammetry techniques. RESULTS Under the optimal experimental conditions, the current response of the electrochemical sensor obtained with differential pulse voltammetry was increased linearly in the concentration range from 1.45 to 15.1 μmol L-1 with the detection limit of 1.07 μmol L-1 for methyldopa. Also, by using the proposed method, methyldopa and uric acid could be analyzed in a mixture independently. The difference in peak potential for analytes is about 150 mV. CONCLUSION The present sensor was successfully applied for the determination of methyldopa in the presence of uric acid in biological samples and the pharmaceutical samples with satisfactory results.

Abstract
This study designed a simplistic, efficient, and greener procedure to synthesize CeO2-CNTs. The analysis of structural and morphological characteristics of nano-composites has been done with regard to different procedures (e.g., EDX, XRD, & FESEM). In addition, simultaneous detection of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and acetaminophen (AC) has been examined at the modified glassy carbon electrode with CeO2-CNTs nano-composites. The surface area and electron transfer speed of the interplay between neuro-transmitters and electrode may be efficiently enhanced due to the existence of CeO2 nano-particles on CNTs surfaces. Moreover, electro-chemical behavior of electrodes has been dealt with by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), impedance analysis (EIS), and cyclic voltammetry (CV). Acceptable linear response of AA, DA, UA and AC respectively have been ranged 0.01-900.0 μM, 0.01-700.0 μM, 0.01-900.0 μM, and 0.01-900.0 μM with determination limits (S/N = 3) of 3.1 nM, 2.6 nM, 2.4 nM and 4.4 nM. Ultimately, this procedure was used with successful results for determining AA, DA, UA and AC in real specimens, which suggested probable uses in other sensing studies.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensor is described for determination of uric acid (UA). Carbon-enwrapped nickel nanoparticles (Ni@BC) were coated with polydopamine (PDA) that was molecularly imprinted with UA. The biomass carbon (BC) was synthesized by one-step solid-state pyrolysis from leaves of Firmiana platanifolia. The imprinted polymer was obtained by electrodeposition of DA as the monomer. The amount of monomer, the scan cycles, pH value and adsorption time were optimized. Furthermore, the selectivity of the MIP for UA on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) was evaluated by selectivity tests. The differential pulse voltammetric responses to UA with and without interferents were consistent. The modified GCE has a linear response in the 0.01-30 μM UA concentration range, and the limit of detection is 8 nM. The MIP electrode was applied to the analysis of UA in urine for which the initial concentrations were determined by the phosphotungstic acid kit. Recoveries ranged from 91.3 to 113.4%, with relative standard deviations between 1.3 and 9.7% (n = 3). Graphical abstract Schematic presentation of electrochemical detection of uric acid by molecularly imprinted polydopamine modified with nickel nanoparticles wrapped with carbon (Ni@BC-MIP).

Abstract
For the first time, highly porous and hierarchical carbon with high surface area (∼2430 m2 g-1) has been prepared from waste amla fruits at different carbonization temperatures viz., 700 °C, 800 °C and 900 °C by a simple and eco-friendly method for the simultaneous electrochemical sensing of biologically important compounds such as ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and nitrite. The porous carbon materials synthesized at 700 °C, 800 °C and 900 °C are denoted as ABC-700, ABC-800 and ABC-900, respectively. The structural and morphological evaluations of as-synthesized hierarchical porous carbon are carried out with advanced tools and the existence of porous morphology is ascertained. The morphology, amorphous nature, disordered nature, surface area, pore volume, thermal stability and elemental composition of the as-prepared porous carbon are investigated by SEM, HRTEM, FT-IR, Raman, TGA, BET, XPS, EDAX and CHNS analysis. Compared with ABC-700 and ABC-900, the electrochemical sensing ability was higher in the case of ABC-800. Therefore, further electrochemical sensing studies are carried out by using ABC-800. The limit of detection for the simultaneous determination of AA, DA, UA and NO2- are 13.7 μM, 3.2 μM, 1.1 μM and 3.3 μM, respectively. The sensitivity are (0.55, 0.01), (4.73, 0.11), 0.11 and 0.57 μA cm-2 μM-1 and linear ranges are (33-166, 166-26470), (1.6-72, 82-2630), 1.6-4134 and 4.9-1184 μM, respectively for AA, DA, UA and NO2-. The porous carbon based sensor also proves reliable operational stability, long time stability, selectivity and good antifouling properties. The porous carbon based sensor was successfully applied to the practical application for the detection of these biomolecules in the real samples of urine.

Abstract
In this study, we developed an electrochemical microchannel biosensor platform to analyse lactate metabolism in cells. This biosensor platform was fabricated by photolithography, thin-film deposition and microfluidic technology. A kind of functional biomaterial was prepared by mixing lactate oxidase, single-walled carbon nanotubes and chitosan, and platinum as working and blank electrodes of the biosensor was modified by a thin Prussian blue layer. The lactate biosensor was obtained by dropping functional biomaterials on the electrode. The results demonstrated that the sensitivity of the electrochemical biosensor was up to 567 nA mM−1 mm−2 and the limit of detection was 4.5 μM (vs. Ag/AgCl as the counter/reference electrode). The biosensor used to quantitatively detect metabolic lactate concentrations in HepG2 cells cultured with cancer drugs showed high sensitivity, selectivity and stability, and has potential applications in organ-on-a-chip and tissue engineering technologies, which typically involve low concentrations of metabolites. In this study, we developed an electrochemical microchannel biosensor platform to analyse lactate metabolism in cells.![]()
