Abstract
We show a positive vertical correlation between ozone and water ice using a vertical cross-correlation analysis with observations from the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter's Nadir and Occultation for Mars Discovery instrument. This is particularly apparent during L S = 0°-180°, Mars Year 35 at high southern latitudes, when the water vapor abundance is low. Ozone and water vapor are anti-correlated on Mars; Clancy et al. (2016, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.icarus.2015.11.016) also discuss the anti-correlation between ozone and water ice. However, our simulations with gas-phase-only chemistry using a 1-D model show that ozone concentration is not influenced by water ice. Heterogeneous chemistry has been proposed as a mechanism to explain the underprediction of ozone in global climate models (GCMs) through the removal of HO x . We find improving the heterogeneous chemical scheme by creating a separate tracer for the HO x adsorbed state, causes ozone abundance to increase when water ice is present (30-50 km), better matching observed trends. When water vapor abundance is high, there is no consistent vertical correlation between observed ozone and water ice and, in simulated scenarios, the heterogeneous chemistry has a minor influence on ozone. HO x , which are by-products of water vapor, dominate ozone abundance, masking the effects of heterogeneous chemistry on ozone, and making adsorption of HO x have a negligible impact on ozone. This is consistent with gas-phase-only modeled ozone, showing good agreement with observations when water vapor is abundant. Overall, the inclusion of heterogeneous chemistry improves the ozone vertical structure in regions of low water vapor abundance, which may partially explain GCM ozone deficits.

Abstract
Mantle cell lymphomas (MCL) are characterized by their aggressive behavior and poor response to chemotherapy regimens. We report here evidence of increased in vitro radiation sensitivity in two cell lines that we have generated from two MCL patients (UPN1 and UPN2). However, despite their increased radiation sensitivity, UPN2 cells were totally resistant to apoptotic cell death, whereas UPN1 cells underwent massive apoptosis 6 h after irradiation. The frequency of induced chromosomal abnormalities was higher in UPN1 as compared to UPN2. Distinct mechanisms have been found to contribute to this phenotype: a major telomere shortening (UPN1 and UPN2), deletion of one ATM allele and a point mutation in the remaining allele in UPN2, mutation of p53 gene (UPN1 and UPN2) with absence of functional p53 as revealed by functional yeast assays. After irradiation, Ku70 levels in UPN1 increased and decreased in UPN2, whereas in the same conditions, DNA-PKcs protein levels decreased in UPN1 and remained unchanged in UPN2. Thus, irradiation-induced apoptotic cell death can occur despite the nonfunctional status of p53 (UPN1), suggesting activation of a unique pathway in MCL cells for the induction of this event. Overall, our study demonstrates that MCL cells show increased radiation sensitivity, which can be the result of distinct molecular events. These findings could clinically be exploited to increase the dismal response rates of MCL patients to the current chemotherapy regimens.

Abstract
Hematopoietic stem cells, which share with other stem cells of adult tissues the ability to maintain constant the number and diversity of differentiated mature cells throughout adult life offer a fabulous system to analyze mechanisms controlling cell proliferation and differentiation. Cytokines controlling the differentiation of intermediate progenitors into mature cells of the various lineages have been characterized and have been widely used, in vitro as in vivo, to increase the output of differentiated cells. In contrast, despite significant technological advances, molecular events associated with the stem cell decisions first to either self-renew or differentiate, and then to irreversibly commit to one of the lymphoid or of the myeloid pathways are still very badly understood. This is partly explained by the lack of reliable assays, particularly in humans, to assess stem cell activity, and by the difficulty to dissect the composition of molecular complexes regulating gene expression in these very rare cells. Despite these limitations, recent evidence suggests that there is some flexibility in the initial decisions of stem cells, and that extracellular factors may influence stem cell fate. If this is confirmed, it may then become possible to propose new therapeutic strategies based on the manipulation of stem cell properties.

Abstract
Expression of NG2 has been reported in the majority of paediatric acute leukaemia (AL) cases with MLL rearrangement. We demonstrated 7. 1 positivity in 2/3 paediatric and 4/11 adult MLL rearranged acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) but in 0/28 adult AML without MLL rearrangement, thus extending the 100% specificity to adult cases. Positivity correlated with stage of maturation arrest since it was found in 0/6 immature AML but in 6/8 monoblastic cases. These data demonstrate that, if NG2 expression in AL is the (in)direct result of MLL rearrangement, such activation is restricted to a monoblastic population in AML. They also have practical implications for NG2 diagnostic screening strategies.

Abstract
CD(34+)-enriched peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) are increasingly being used as an autograft in patients with multiple myeloma (MM). The rationale for the use of the CD34+-enriched fraction in MM is the ability to obtain a graft with a significant reduction of contamination by plasma cells. However, the effect of such a manipulation on the proliferating potential of the engrafted cells is not known. We wished to study, as part of a randomized trial comparing the outcome in MM patients transplanted with either CD(34+)-enriched cells or unfractionated PBSC, the primitive hematopoietic cell content of the autografts using long-term culture initiating cell (LTC-IC) assays in 7 MM patients. In 3 patients CD(34+)cell-enriched fraction was compared to unfractionated PBSC whereas in the remaining 4 patients the LTC-IC assay was performed on total PBSC. The mean percentage of CD34+ cells of the CD34+ selected fraction in three patients was 82% (range 71%-96%) whereas the same percentage in PBSC varied from 0.6% to 10% in 4 patients (mean: 4.2%). Out of three patients transplanted with CD34+ cell fraction, two patients were found to have a very similar LTC-IC generating potential in their CD34+ versus PBSC fractions as this was assessed by the clonogenic cell output at week+5 per 10(4) CD34+ cells initiating the culture (PBSC: 92 and 168 and CD34+ fraction: 102 and 16, respectively) whereas one patient had a slightly different values (PBSC: 51 and CD34+ fraction: 103). When the PBSC fraction was compared in all 7 patients, the LTC-IC generation potential was very heterogenous, varying from 1.4 to 168. To determine if the selection procedure influences the numbers of LTC-IC's in both fractions, we have performed limiting dilution assays to determine both the frequency of distribution of hematopoietic colonies and the frequency of LTC-IC's in two patients. The frequency of distribution of hematopoietic colonies was linear in both CD34+ and PBSC fractions as was the frequency of LTC-IC when the corrections were made with regard to the CD34+ cell-content of the cultures (1/20). Our results indicate that the CD34+ selection procedure used in all three patients (Ceprate) is not deleterious for the generation of LTC-IC's and these findings support the rationale for the use of this procedure in multiple for the purposes of tumor depletion.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this phase II trial was to assess the efficacy of fludarabine monophosphate in untreated and pretreated mantle-cell lymphomas (MCL). PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifteen patients with MCL were included in the study. In two cases, fludarabine was the first-line therapy, the second in four cases, the third in five cases, and the fourth in four cases. The diagnosis of MCL was based on the criteria of the European Lymphoma Task Force (ELTF), with morphologic, immunologic, and cytogenetic data. Patients were treated with intravenous fludarabine 25 mg/m2/d for 5 days every 4 weeks. RESULTS Toxicity of fludarabine was mild: World Health Organization (WHO) grade 3 and 4 granulocytopenia occurred in 15 of 56 assessable cycles (cy) (27%), there was no grade 3 or 4 thrombocytopenia, one grade 3 bacterial lung infection, and no treatment-related death. There were five partial responses (33%) but no complete response. The duration of these responses was short and ranged from 4 to 8 months. CONCLUSION These results suggest that fludarabine can be moderately effective in the treatment of MCL. Fludarabine appears to be far less effective than in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and follicular non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Therefore, fludarabine should be evaluated in association with other chemotherapeutic agents in MCL.

Abstract
We reviewed 77 cases considered as lymphocytic lymphomas of intermediate differentiation or diffuse centrocytic lymphomas. Forty-five cases were diagnosed as mantle cell lymphoma (MCL). The architectural pattern was diffuse in 95%, 8 cases presented large blastoid cells and CD5 positivity was observed in 28/34 cases. Of 20 cases studied, 8 presented a t(11;14)(q13;q32). Patient characteristics were: median age 59 years, B symptoms in 38%, 87% stages III-IV, bone marrow involvement in 67% with peripheral leukemic cells in 24%. Forty-four patients were treated with chemotherapy and 7 received radiotherapy. The complete response (CR) rate was 58%. Of the 26 CR, 19 relapsed at a median of 15 months. Disease-free survival was 42% and overall survival was 73% at 3 years. In a univariate analysis, overall survival was related to liver and bone marrow involvement, the presence of peripheral lymphomatous cells and achieving a complete response.
