Genome-wide association mapping of genomic regions associated with drought stress tolerance at seedling and reproductive stages in bread wheat

Understanding the genetic architecture of drought stress tolerance in bread wheat at seedling and reproductive stages is crucial for developing drought-tolerant varieties. In the present study, 192 diverse wheat genotypes, a subset from the Wheat Associated Mapping Initiative (WAMI) panel, were evaluated at the seedling stage in a hydroponics system for chlorophyll content (CL), shoot length (SLT), shoot weight (SWT), root length (RLT), and root weight (RWT) under both drought and optimum conditions. Following that, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was carried out using the phenotypic data recorded during the hydroponics experiment as well as data available from previously conducted multi-location field trials under optimal and drought stress conditions. The panel had previously been genotyped using the Infinium iSelect 90K SNP array with 26,814 polymorphic markers. Using single as well as multi-locus models, GWAS identified 94 significant marker-trait associations (MTAs) or SNPs associated with traits recorded at the seedling stage and 451 for traits recorded at the reproductive stage. The significant SNPs included several novel, significant, and promising MTAs for different traits. The average LD decay distance for the whole genome was approximately 0.48 Mbp, ranging from 0.07 Mbp (chromosome 6D) to 4.14 Mbp (chromosome 2A). Furthermore, several promising SNPs revealed significant differences among haplotypes for traits such as RLT, RWT, SLT, SWT, and GY under drought stress. Functional annotation and in silico expression analysis revealed important putative candidate genes underlying the identified stable genomic regions such as protein kinases, O-methyltransferases, GroES-like superfamily proteins, NAD-dependent dehydratases, etc. The findings of the present study may be useful for improving yield potential, and stability under drought stress conditions.

Comparative Evaluation of Ampicillin and Trimethoprim Sulfamoxole Combination in Gonorrhoea

Fifty men suffering from uncomplicated urethritis were treated either with 1, 280 mg of (TMP) and 6,400 mg of (SDMO) (Supristol 16 tablets) eually divided doses taken at a 12 or with a single dose of 3.5 gm of with 1 gm of probenecid . The cure rate in TMP-SDMO regimen was 79% while that in AMP-PBD regimen was 95.7%. Sensitivity of the organism to penicillin, ampicillin and TMP-SDMO. Toxic effects of the drugs were studied.

Study of dermatomycoses

555 clinically suspected cases of dermatomycoses were studied for causative fungi and their detailed clinical manifestations. The fungi were demonstrated on routine KOH mount and/or by culture in 464 cases (83.6%). Tinea corporis was the predominant fungal infection (30.6%) and T. rubrum was the main etiologic agent. Favus (T. schoenleini) was found only in cases from Jammu and Kashmir valleys. There was a high incidence of tinea capitis among children. Trichophyton tonsurans was isolated in cases of tinea corporis, tinea cruris, and tinea pedis. Trichophyton ferrugineum and T. verrucosum were isolated from cases of tinea capitis; and Microsporum gypseum was isolated from tinea cruris infections.

Reiter's Disease - Clinical Profile of Epidemic Form

Absence of urethritis need not exclude the possiblity of Reiter's disease in young males where conjunctivitis and polyarthritis are cardinal features. Appearance of cutaneous lesion early in the course of the disease heralds a poor prognosis specially in the rare epidemic form of the disease. Two cases of Reiter's disease are reported. Both belonged to the dysentric type of the disease; sometimes ref to as the epidemic form. Relatively high dose of steroids necessary to control symptoms.

Post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis

Ten patients with post-kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (2 females, 8 males-aged 17-47 years) are described. Two of them had macular lesions in which very few Leishman-Donovan bodies were seen and who responded well to treatment with stibophen. Five patients had both macular and nodular lesions, Leishman-Donovan bodies being present in nodules but not in macules. Treatment with stibophen caused partial regression of nodules. Nodular lesions were found in three patients, who did not have macules. They contained numerous Leishman-Donovan bodies and treatment produced only temporary improvement. The variable response to treatment with stibophen may have been due to differences in parasitic load. The difficulty in distinguishing this disease from leprosy is discussed.
