Abstract
EWSR1-PATZ1 fusion sarcoma is a type of round-cell sarcoma with EWSR1-non-EST fusion that was newly categorized in the 2020 World Health Organization classification of soft tissue and bone tumors. In general, local disease is managed via surgical resection; however, at present, there is no standard therapy for locally advanced or metastatic disease. Here, we report our experience with a middle-aged male patient with pelvic EWSR1-PATZ1 fusion sarcoma who was treated with carbon ion radiotherapy and maintained stable disease for 13 months. The patient's clinical course suggests that carbon ion radiotherapy may be effective in patients with locally advanced EWSR1-PATZ1 fusion sarcoma.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Trabectedin binds covalently to the DNA minor groove and causes DNA to bend toward the main groove, then trabectedin regulates the transcription of the involved genes in cell proliferation or acts on the mononuclear phagocyte system in tumors, which contributes to its antitumor effects. Several clinical trials confirmed the efficacy of trabectedin for patients with advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) although clinically useful biomarkers remained unidentified. This study aimed to identify prognostic factors of trabectedin treatment, especially focusing on the systemic inflammatory, immune response, and nutritional status. METHODS This study included 44 patients with advanced STS treated with trabectedin from January 2018 to August 2022. We evaluated the associations of clinical factors that influence the efficacy of trabectedin treatment with progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), focusing on systemic inflammatory, immune response, and nutritional status represented by the absolute lymphocyte count (ALC), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), prognostic nutrition index (PNI), and C-reactive protein (CRP) using the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test. RESULTS ALC, LMR, PNI, NLR, PLR, and SIRI demonstrated no association with PFS. Patients with CRP of ≥0.3 had a significantly shorter PFS than those with CRP of <0.3 (median PFS: 863 vs. 105 days, P = 0.045). PNI of ≥44 (median: 757 days vs. 232 days, P = 0.021) and CRP of <0.3 (median: 877 days vs. 297 days, P = 0.043) were significantly good prognostic factors in terms of OS. CONCLUSIONS The study results indicate pretreatment PNI and CRP levels as prognostic factors for trabectedin treatment in advanced STS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sarculator is a validated nomogram designed to predict overall survival (OS) in extremity soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Inflammation plays a critical role in cancer development and progression. There were no reports which investigated the relationship between Sarculator and inflammation. METHODS A total of 217 patients with extremity STS were included. The Sarculator-predicted 10-year probability of OS (pr-OS) was stratified into two subgroups: lower risk (10-year pr-OS ≥ 60%) and higher risk (10-year pr-OS < 60%). The modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS) varied from 0 to 2. RESULTS Out of the 217 patients, 67 were classified as higher risk, while 150 were lower risk. A total of 181 patients had an mGPS of 0, and 36 had a score of 1 or 2. The 5-year OS was 83.3%. When patients were divided into two groups according to the 10-year pr-OS, those with a higher risk had poorer OS than those with a lower risk. Among the patients with a higher risk, those with an mGPS of 1 or 2 had poorer OS compared to those with a score of 0. CONCLUSIONS The mGPS could potentially play an important role in identifying patients who are at high risk of death and metastasis in the higher-risk group on the Sarculator.

Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study is to establish a standardized measurement method and to examine the intra- and inter-reliabilities and absolute reliability of measuring skin mechanical properties using a skin elasticity meter (Cutometer®). METHODS Ten healthy participated in the study. Skin mechanical properties were measured at four sites: upper arm, lower arm, upper leg and lower leg on both sides in supine position using a non-invasive skin elasticity meter by two trained different raters. The measurements include quantitative indices of the maximal distensibility (R0), elasticity (R2, R5, R7), and viscoelasticity (R6). Intra- and inter- relative reliabilities were determined using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) (1,1) and ICC (2,1) methods, respectively. The absolute reliability was assessed via the Bland-Altman analysis. Moreover, we evaluated the minimal detectable change at a 95% confidence level (MDC95). RESULTS At each site, the ICC (1,1) values were >0.90, and the ICC (2,1) values were >0.50. The Bland-Altman analysis did not reveal any fixed errors, and several sites and parameters have proportional errors. CONCLUSIONS In this study, intra- and inter-reliabilities were measured at "excellent" and more than "moderate" levels, respectively. However, because some proportional errors were observed, the limits of reliability agreement should be considered when using the proposed methods. We believe that the results of this study can be applied to clinical research in field of rehabilitation treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a potentially curative treatment for hematological malignancies. Several complications following allo-HSCT, such as graft-versus-host disease, infection, and malnutrition, often cause physical dysfunction, and the assessment of physical function and evaluation of muscle mass are incompletely performed. Use of ultrasound (US) allows muscle mass measurement in patients with poor general conditions. In allo-HSCT recipients, the correlation between physical function and muscle thickness, as measured by US, remains unclear. OBJECTIVE To clarify whether muscle thickness measured by US correlated with physical function in allo-HSCT recipients. DESIGN A single-center prospective cohort study. SETTING Hospital. PATIENTS Ninety-two patients underwent allo-HSCT at our hospital from April 2017 to March 2019. INTERVENTIONS Not applicable. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Biceps and quadriceps muscle thickness measured by US, grip strength, isometric muscle strength (elbow flexion and knee extension), and 6-minute walking test (6MWT) before allo-HSCT and on days 30, 90, 180, 1 year, and 2 years after allo-HSCT. The implementation rates of these assessments were also investigated. RESULTS Correlations were observed between biceps thickness and elbow flexion muscle strength/grip strength before allo-HSCT, on days 30, 90, 180, 1 year, and 2 years after allo-HSCT (r = 0.71/0.74, 0.73/0.72, 0.70/0.79, 0.67/0.75, 0.72/0.75, and 0.85/0.79, respectively, all p < .001). At the same time points, quadriceps thickness moderately correlated with knee extensor strength (r = 0.49, 0.50, 0.45, 0.64, 0.61, and 0.58, all p < .001). However, biceps and quadriceps thicknesses did not correlate with the 6MWT. The percentages of patients measured with US and 6MWT were 93.4% and 82.4% (p = .01) on day 30 and 97.5% and 87.8% (p = .02) on day 90, respectively. CONCLUSIONS US assessment may be a useful alternative method for estimating muscle strength in fragile allo-HSCT recipients, particularly when physical function assessment is difficult to quantify.

Abstract
Retinoblastoma is a common primary intraocular malignant tumor that affects infants and young children. Radiation therapy for hereditary retinoblastoma increases the risk of secondary malignancy. The present report discusses the case of a retinoblastoma survivor who developed secondary leiomyosarcoma 42 years after receiving radiation therapy. The retinoblastoma of the patient was unilateral, and the patient had no family history of the disease. RNA and DNA panel sequencing of the leiomyosarcoma tissue was performed to elucidate the molecular mechanism of this secondary malignancy. The RNA panel sequencing detected a germline reciprocal translocation of RB1 and DMXL1, leading to a diagnosis of possible hereditary retinoblastoma. Furthermore, it detected a somatic fusion gene (RAD51-KNL1). The DNA panel sequencing identified various germline or somatic variants, including a somatic splice acceptor site mutation of TP53. We hypothesized that the molecular mechanism of the secondary malignancy of this patient was the combination of a germline reciprocal translocation of RB1 and DMXL1 and the accumulation of various somatic mutations containing the splice acceptor site mutation of TP53, which ultimately led to the development of a secondary leiomyosarcoma. Further prospective investigations are necessary to fully understand the role of reciprocal translocation of RB1 and DMXL1 or other mutations in the tumorigenesis of second malignancies in patients with hereditary retinoblastoma.

Abstract
Malignant giant-cell tumors are extremely rare bone sarcomas that transform from conventional giant-cell tumors during long periods of treatment. Owing to their rarity, no further analysis of their molecular pathogenesis exists, and thus, no standard treatment has been established. Recently, organoid culture methods have been highlighted for recapturing the tumor microenvironment, and we have applied the culture methods and succeeded in establishing patient-derived organoids (PDO) of rare sarcomas. This study aimed to investigate the genomic characteristics of our established novel organoids from human malignant giant-cell tumors. At our institute, we treated a patient with malignant giant-cell tumor. The remaining sarcoma specimens after surgical resection were cultured according to the air-liquid interface organoid-culture method. Organoids were xenografted into NOD-scid IL2Rgnull mice. The developed tumors were histologically and genomically analyzed to compare their characteristics with those of the original tumors. Genetic changes over time throughout treatment were analyzed, and the genomic status of the established organoid was confirmed. Organoids from malignant giant-cell tumors could be serially maintained using air-liquid interface organoid-culture methods. The tumors developed in xenografted NOD-scid IL2Rgnull mice. After several repetitions of the process, a patient-derived organoid line from the malignant giant-cell tumor was established. Immunohistochemical analyses and next-generation sequencing revealed that the established organoids lacked the H3-3A G34W mutation. The xenografted organoids of the malignant giant-cell tumor had phenotypes histologically and genetically similar to those of the original tumor. The established organoids were confirmed to be derived from human malignant giant-cell tumors. In summary, the present study demonstrated a novel organoid model of a malignant giant-cell tumor that was genetically confirmed to be a malignant transformed tumor. Our organoid model could be used to elucidate the molecular pathogenesis of a malignant giant-cell tumor and develop novel treatment modalities.

Abstract
Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer for which new therapeutic agents are required. Ferroptosis is a nonapoptotic cell death triggered by iron-mediated lipid peroxidation. We found that TFRC, an iron uptake protein, was expressed at higher levels in sarcoma cell lines than in noncancer and carcinoma cell lines. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) protects cells against ferroptosis, and its inhibition using RAS-selective lethal 3 (RSL3) had an antitumor effect that was more pronounced in sarcoma cell lines, particularly synovial sarcoma cells, compared to non-sarcoma cells. Because NF-κB can provoke ferroptosis, we examined the role of SHARPIN, an activator of NF-κB, in sarcoma. We found that SHARPIN expression was significantly associated with reduced survival in cohorts of patients with cancer, including sarcoma. In addition, SHARPIN promoted the sensitivity of sarcoma cells to ferroptosis. Further analyses revealed that the PGC1α/NRF2/SLC7A11 axis and BNIP3L/NIX-mediated mitophagy are regulated through NF-κB and PRMT5 downstream of SHARPIN. Our findings suggest that ferroptosis could have a therapeutic effect in sarcoma, particularly in subpopulations with high TFRC and SHARPIN expression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is known that several complications are caused by local surgery after radiotherapy. Clinical reports that describe the postoperative complications associated with surgery after carbon ion radiotherapy are sparse. This study aimed to elucidate local surgery feasibility after carbon ion radiotherapy specifically for primary bone sarcomas. METHODS The medical, surgical, and irradiation records of patients who had local surgery at the area irradiated with carbon ion beams between 2004 and 2018 were reviewed retrospectively to evaluate the feasibility and indication of local surgery after CIRT. RESULTS There were eight patients who had 10 local surgeries at the irradiated sites among the 42 carbon ion radiotherapy patients. There were seven males and one female with a median age of 50 years (range 26-73 years). The reasons for surgery were three for skin toxicity and associated infection, five for bone collapse, and associated implant failure, and two for tumor regrowth. All surgical fields included the area of more than 60 Gy (RBE) irradiated dose. All three surgical cases caused by skin toxicity and associated infection had Grade I wound complication after surgery according to the Clavien-Dindo Classification. CONCLUSION Local surgery after CIRT appeared feasible in selected patients with primary bone sarcoma, especially for the patients with bone collapse and associated implant failure. However, infection and prescribed irradiation dose at the incision site must be carefully evaluated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Head and neck cancer (HNC) treatment causes dysphagia, which may lead to aspiration pneumonia (AP). Thickened fluids are widely used to prevent aspiration in patients with dysphagia; however, there is little evidence that they can prevent AP. This study aimed to clarify the differences between restriction of oral intake of fluids (R), only thickened fluids (TF), and no restriction of fluids (NR) for AP in patients with dysphagia after HNC treatment. METHODS We retrospectively studied 654 patients with dysphagia after HNC surgery between 2012 and 2021. Of these, 255 had some restriction of fluids. The development of possible AP and administration of antibacterial drugs were used as outcomes. Multivariate linear regression and propensity score matching analyses were performed. RESULTS The mean patient age was 64 ± 13, 67 ± 11, and 68 ± 10 years, while the Dynamic Imaging Grade of Swallowing Toxicity score 3-4 was 2.8%, 27.5, and 53.3%% water in NR, TF, and R groups, respectively. AP was diagnosed or suspected after starting oral intake in 37 (9.3%), 11 patients (15.9%), and 45 (17.6%) and antibacterial drugs were administered in 11 (2.8%), 7 patients (10.1%), and 25 (9.8%) in NR, TF, and R groups, respectively. R and TF had significant negative impacts on AP. CONCLUSIONS Fluid restrictions may not reduce the risk of AP or affect the administration of antibacterial drugs. Medical staff should bear in mind that fluid restrictions do not necessarily prevent AP in patients with HNC.

Abstract
Bone and soft-tissue sarcomas infrequently develop in the hand and wrist. Given the complex anatomy of this area, wide resection with adequate margins often impairs hand function because of the resection of essential structures, including tendons, bones, and tissues adjacent to the sarcoma. Here, we present a case of primary synovial sarcoma adjacent to the dorsal side of the carpal bones, which were resected with hemi-resection of the carpus and resection of extensor tendons, followed by wrist joint arthrodesis and palmaris longus tendon grafting. Hand function was satisfactory despite some disability, and no evidence of local recurrence was observed at the 24-month postoperative follow-up. This method may be effective for not only achieving tumor resection with a negative margin but also preserving hand function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The high rate of aseptic loosening of cemented stems has led to their frequent use in endoprosthetic reconstruction. However, problems, such as stem breakage and stress shielding at the insertion site, remain. The Japanese Musculoskeletal Oncology Group (JMOG) has developed Kyocera Modular Limb Salvage System (KMLS) cementless stems with a unique tapered press-fit and short fixation design. This study aimed to clarify the short-term postoperative outcomes of this prosthesis and validate the stem design. METHODS One hundred cases of KMLS cementless stems (51 male patients; median age, 49 years; mean follow-up period, 35 months), with a minimum follow-up of 2 years, for the proximal femur (PF), distal femur (DF), and proximal tibia were prospectively registered for use. Prosthesis survival, complication rates, postoperative functional, and radiographical evaluation were analyzed. Complications or failures after insertion of the KMLS endoprostheses were classified into five types and functional results were analyzed according to the MSTS scoring system at postoperative 1 year. The diaphyseal interface and anchorage were graded by the ISOLS system at postoperative 2 years. RESULTS The overall prosthesis survival rates at 2 and 4 years were 88.2 and 79.6%, respectively. The prosthesis-specific survival rate excluding infection and tumor recurrence was 90.2 and 87.9%, respectively. Younger age (p = 0.045) and primary tumor (p = 0.057) were associated with poor prognosis of prosthesis-specific survival excluding infection and tumor recurrence. Complications were observed in 31 patients, 13 patients underwent revision surgery. The mean MSTS functional score at 1 year postoperatively was 68%. Early implant loosening was significantly more common in the DF (p = 0.006) and PF/DF straight stem (p = 0.038). The ISOLS radiographic evaluation at 2 years after surgery revealed good bone remodeling and anchorage in most cases (bone remodeling: 90% / excellent and good, anchorage: 97% / excellent and good). CONCLUSIONS Tumor endoprosthesis long-term fixation to the diaphysis of the lower extremity remains challenging. The KMLS cementless stem with a unique tapered press fit design showed good short-term results in maintaining bone stock. To prevent early loosening, a curved stem should be used in PF and DF, but long-term follow-up is necessary.

Abstract
Background Although biological resources are essential for basic and preclinical research in the oncological field, those of sarcoma are not sufficient for rapid development of the treatment. So far, some sarcoma cell lines have been established, however, the success rate was low and the established sarcoma types were frequently biased. Therefore, an efficient culture method is needed to determine the various types of sarcomas. Organoid culture is a 3-dimentional culture method that enables the recapitulation of the tumor microenvironment and the success rate reported is higher than the 2-dimentional culture. The purpose of this study was to report our newly established organoids from human epithelioid sarcoma using the air-liquid interface organoid culture method. Methods We treated 2 patients with epithelioid sarcoma in our institute. The remaining sarcoma specimens after surgical resection were embedded in collagen type 1 gels according to the air-liquid interface organoid culture method. After serial passages, we xenografted the organoids to NOD-scid IL2Rgnull (NSG) mice. Using the developed tumors, we performed histological and genomic analyses to compare the similarities and differences with the original epithelioid sarcoma from the patient. Results Organoids from the epithelioid sarcoma could be serially cultured and maintained in collagen type 1 gels for more than 3 passages. Developed orthotopic tumor xenografts were detected in the NSG mice. After the process was repeated severally, the patient derived organoid lines from the epithelioid sarcoma were established. The established organoids showed loss of integrase interactor 1 expression with polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemical analyses. The xenografted organoids of the epithelioid sarcoma had histologically similar phenotypes with the original tumor and genetically resembled it to some degree. Conclusions The present study demonstrated 2 novel established organoid models of epithelioid sarcoma, and our organoid models could be used to investigate the molecular pathogenesis and develop a novel treatment.

Abstract
We describe a novel EWSR1-HOXB13-fusion in a fibroblastic tumor from the abdominal wall of a 29-year-old woman. This tumor caused intermittent intense pain and had grown to approximately 5 cm in size over two years. The tumor was located beneath subfascial section of the abdominal wall and was invading the abdominal cavity and pressing on the liver. The tumor was well-circumscribed and consisted of intersected fascicles of monomorphic spindle-shaped cells with uniform ovoid nuclei lacking nuclear pleomorphism or mitotic activity. This tumor was immunohistochemically negative for pan-cytokeratin AE1/AE3, desmin, SMA, S100, myogenin, MyoD1, CD34, melanosome, SOX10, STAT6, SS18-SSX, and ERG. H3K27me3 was retained. RNA sequencing revealed a unique EWSR1-HOXB13-fusion, and strong, diffuse nuclear immunostaining for HOXB13 was observed. No local recurrence or evident distant metastasis were observed over eight months without chemotherapy, implying that the behavior of this tumor is not yet known.

Abstract
Simple Summary Pelvic osteosarcoma has a poor prognosis compared to osteosarcomas in other locations, and the reasons for this remains unknown. Surgical resection of pelvic osteosarcoma is technically demanding and often results in dysfunction and complications. In this study, we investigated the reasons underlying the poor prognosis of pelvic osteosarcoma by comparing it to femoral osteosarcoma using data from the Bone Tumor Registry in Japan. We used propensity score analysis to determine whether surgical resection of pelvic osteosarcoma improved its prognosis. We demonstrated that pelvic osteosarcoma had a poor prognosis because it occurred more often in the elderly, often had a larger tumor size, and had metastasis at presentation more often in comparison to femoral osteosarcoma. These three factors were also associated with the non-surgical treatment of pelvic osteosarcoma, which also led to a poor outcome. The overall survival rate was only comparable in pelvic osteosarcoma and femoral osteosarcoma in cases treated with surgical resection. Propensity score analysis revealed that surgical treatment improved the prognosis of pelvic osteosarcoma. As such, we propose that surgical resection should be considered based on tumor stage and patient age in order to improve the prognosis of pelvic osteosarcoma. Abstract
Protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) controls diverse cellular processes and is implicated in cancer development and progression. Here, we report an inverse correlation between PRMT5 function and antitumor immunity. PRMT5 expression was associated with an antitumor immune gene signature in human melanoma tissue. Reducing PRMT5 activity antagonized melanoma growth in immunocompetent but not immunocompromised mice. PRMT5 methylation of IFI16 [interferon-γ (IFN-γ)-inducible protein 16] or its murine homolog IFI204, which are components of the cGAS/STING (stimulator of IFN genes) pathway, attenuated cytosolic DNA-induced IFN and chemokine expression in melanoma cells. PRMT5 also inhibited transcription of the gene encoding NLRC5 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family caspase recruitment domain containing 5), a protein that promotes the expression of genes implicated in major histocompatibility complex class I (MHCI) antigen presentation. PRMT5 knockdown augmented IFN and chemokine production and increased MHCI abundance in melanoma. Increased expression of IFI204 and NLRC5 was associated with decreased melanoma growth in murine models, and increased expression of IFI16 and NLRC5 correlated with prolonged survival of patients with melanoma. Combination of pharmacological (GSK3326595) or genetic (shRNA) inhibition of PRMT5 with immune checkpoint therapy limited growth of murine melanoma tumors (B16F10 and YUMM1.7) and enhanced therapeutic efficacy, compared with the effect of either treatment alone. Overall, our findings provide a rationale to test PRMT5 inhibitors in immunotherapy-based clinical trials as a means to enhance an antitumor immune response.

Abstract
Background osteosarcoma is a rare, primary malignant bone tumour with limited available treatments for advanced or recurrent disease, resulting in a poor prognosis for patients. TAS-115 is a novel tyrosine kinase inhibitor under investigation in a phase I study in patients with solid tumours. We report data of osteosarcoma patients in the expansion cohort of this ongoing study. Patients and methods an analysis of this multicentre, open-label study was performed 6 months after the final patient was enrolled, and included patients aged ≥15 years, with unresectable or recurrent osteosarcoma, and who had refractory to standard therapy or for whom no standard therapy was available. TAS-115 650 mg/day was orally administered in a 5 days on/2 days off schedule. Results a total of 20 patients with osteosarcoma were enrolled. The most common adverse drug reactions (ADRs) were neutrophil count decreased (75%), aspartate aminotransferase increased (50%), and platelet count decreased (50%); 85% of patients had grade ≥ 3 ADRs. Long-term disease control (>1 year) with TAS-115 was achieved in three patients. The best overall response was stable disease (50%); no patient achieved a complete or partial response. Median progression-free survival was 3 months; 4-month and 12-month progression-free rates were 42% and 31%, respectively. Conclusion the safety and tolerability of TAS-115 and long-term disease stability for patients with unresectable or recurrent osteosarcoma were confirmed in this study, suggesting that TAS-115 is a promising novel therapy for advanced osteosarcoma patients. Abstract
Angiosarcoma is a rare sarcoma with a poor prognosis and is prone to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), where DIC often interferes with chemotherapy. Primary angiosarcoma of the breast (PASB) is a type of angiosarcoma that is located in mammary parenchyma and is not associated with radiation exposure. The current study reported a 47-year-old female with DIC associated with PASB. The DIC of the patient relapsed during mono-chemotherapy with paclitaxel (PTX) after first-line anticoagulant therapy using thrombomodulin-α. The second-line danaparoid sodium therapy, followed by self-subcutaneous injection of unfractionated heparin calcium (UFH), resulted in long-term stabilization of DIC. Under this second-line anticoagulant therapy, the patient continued chemotherapy and chemoradiotherapy for >13 months in the outpatient setting without impairment of quality of life. The present case suggested that self-subcutaneous injections of UFH may be a useful therapeutic option for long-term control of DIC associated with PASB. However, further prospective clinical trails are needed to verify the efficacy of self-subcutaneous injection of UFH in similar settings.

Abstract
Malignant gastrointestinal neuroectodermal tumors (GNETs), also called clear-cell sarcoma-like tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, are rare and highly aggressive tumors originating in the gastrointestinal tract. These tumors are generally immunohistochemically positive for S-100 protein (S-100) and SRY-related HMG-box 10 (SOX10), and often contain EWSR1-ATF1 or EWSR1-CREB1. The histological features of GNETs overlap with those of clear-cell sarcoma of the tendons and aponeuroses. However, GNETs immunohistochemically lack melanocyte-specific markers and often demonstrate positivity for CD56, synaptophysin and neuron-specific enolase. The present case reports a woman with a history of desmoplastic malignant melanoma exhibiting a BRAF mutation, which later transformed into a GNET of the small intestine with both a BRAF mutation and two subtypes of EWSR1-ATF1 fusion genes. Tumor cells were revealed to be weakly immunoreactive or negative for S-100 and SOX10, lacked markers of melanocytic differentiation and were focally positive for CD56. Combination therapy with dabrafenib mesylate and trametinib dimethyl sulfoxide proved to be temporarily effective against this tumor. The present case is relatively unique as, to the best of our knowledge, there is no case of GNET with a history of melanoma. Furthermore, there is no report of GNET exhibiting both a BRAF mutation and an EWSR1-ATF1 fusion gene. Further accumulation of similar cases is necessary to elucidate the pathological significance of this GNET having a BRAF mutation.

Stewart-Treves syndrome (STS) is defined as AS arising in the setting of chronic lymphedema, and is extremely uncommon in the lower abdominal wall. Eribulin mesylate (eribulin) is a non-taxane microtubule inhibitor that has been approved in Japan for treating soft tissue sarcoma. The current study reports the case of a 76 year-old woman with STS in the lower abdominal wall who exhibited an excellent response to eribulin. Having undergone surgery and postoperative radiation therapy (RT) for cervical cancer 12 years earlier, the patient presented with a mass in her left lower abdominal wall, where chronic lymphedema had developed. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed multiple enhancing nodules in the left lower abdominal wall and edema of the subcutaneous tissues in the whole lower abdomen. A histologic analysis of the specimens revealed AS, and she was diagnosed as STS. A total of 3 cycles of combination chemotherapy with gemcitabine and docetaxel were administered, but the patient discontinued treatment owing to severe adverse events. RT was performed for the tumor, but multiple reddish nodules appeared in the whole lower abdominal wall 3 months later. At this point, eribulin administration was offered. After 4 cycles of treatment, there was a clear reduction in the size of the nodules. All lesions were stable, no new lesions had developed, and the side effects of treatment were minor over the course of 1 year. The results reveal that eribulin may serve as a potential therapeutic option for the treatment of STS.

Abstract
The number of studies on bone metastasis (BM) from gastric cancer (GC) is currently limited. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the characteristics, skeletal-related events (SREs) and prognosis of GC in patients with BMs. Data from 60 patients with BMs from GC were retrospectively retrieved and patient-, tumor- and BM-related characteristics were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were analyzed using the univariate log-rank test. Multivariate analyses were conducted using the Cox proportional hazards model. The median patient age was 63.5 years (range, 26-83 years). Visceral or brain metastases were observed at BM diagnosis in 61.7% of the patients. Multiple BMs were detected in 83.3% and SREs occurred in 76.7% of the patients. The median overall survival (OS) after BM diagnosis and SRE occurrence was 9 months (range, 0-43 months) and 5 months (range, 0-36 months), respectively. On multivariate analysis, poor Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (P=0.030), the administration of chemotherapy prior to BM diagnosis (P<0.001) and no chemotherapy after BM diagnosis (P=0.002) were significant prognostic factors for unfavorable OS, whereas the non-use of bone-modifying agents (BMAs) was the only independent prognostic factor for poor SRE-free survival (SRS; P=0.022). Among patients without SREs at BM diagnosis, the median SRS duration was 7 months (range, 0-43 months). In conclusion, chemotherapy may confer a survival benefit in GC patients with BMs. In addition, the prognosis for GC patients with BMs presenting with SREs is poor, but treatment with BMAs may prevent or delay the development of SREs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The aim of this study is to assess the survival, function, radiographic appearance, and modes of failure of extracorporeal irradiated (ECI) autografts in a long-term setting. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 87 patients who were treated for bone and soft tissue tumors using ECI autografts between 1988 and 2009. RESULTS The 56 patients had a minimum follow-up of 10 years, and the median follow-up period was 16.5 years. The reimplantation procedures included 24 osteoarticular grafts, 16 intercalary grafts, 10 autograft-prosthetic composite grafts, and 6 hemicortical grafts. The 15-year graft and event-free survival rates were 76.8% and 47.9%, respectively. Infection and structural failure were the most common reasons for additional surgery. The time for additional surgery was significantly longer in patients with composite grafts (P < .01). The median Musculoskeletal Tumor Society score and the International Society of Limb Salvage score were 80% and 84%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS ECI autografts are a durable option for reconstruction after resection of musculoskeletal tumors and provide good function over more than 15 years. Most graft failures occurred within 5 years of the index surgery. However, composite grafts showed a tendency to fail more than 10 years after the surgery.

Abstract
Malignant peripheral nerve-sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are rare malignancies that are often observed in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). However, the occurrence of MPNST associated with mosaic localized NF1 is extremely rare. Previous reports have revealed that MPNST was associated with mosaic localized NF1 in only three patients who were >40 years of age. The present report details a 16-year-old man who presented with pain and a 3 cm mass on the medial side of the right knee. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a circumscribed soft tissue tumor located in the subcutaneous tissue. His previous doctor believed that it was benign and conducted a marginal resection. However, postoperative histology results demonstrated spindle cell sarcoma, following which the patient was referred to The Osaka International Cancer Institute. Localized café-au-lait spots were identified in the affected leg, which inferred that the patient had NF1-related MPNST. A wide resection was performed to completely resect the residual tumor; however, a definitive histological diagnosis was challenging due to the small residual tumor. Hence, the genomic mutations of NF1 in the regional café-au-lait spots were analyzed. The result revealed an NF1 microdeletion and a consistently limited expression of NF1 in the tumor sample. Finally, the patient was diagnosed with MPNST with mosaic localized NF1. Local recurrence and distant metastasis were not observed 1.5 years after surgery. In conclusion, the present report presented MPNST in an adolescent patient with mosaic localized NF1. The occurrence of MPNSTs correlated with mosaic localized NF1 is extremely rare. However, it is of high-grade malignancy and therefore, its clinical features should be considered by orthopedists and pathologists.

Abstract
Clear cell sarcoma (CCS) is a rare but chemotherapy-resistant and often fatal high-grade soft-tissue sarcoma (STS) characterized by melanocytic differentiation under control of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF). Eribulin mesilate (eribulin) is a mechanistically unique microtubule inhibitor commonly used for STS treatment, particularly liposarcoma and leiomyosarcoma. In this study, we examined the antitumor efficacy of eribulin on four human CCS cell lines and two mouse xenograft models. Eribulin inhibited CCS cell proliferation by inducing cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis, shrunk CCS xenograft tumors, and increased tumor vessel density. Eribulin induced MITF protein upregulation and stimulated tumor cell melanocytic differentiation through ERK1/2 inactivation (a MITF negative regulator) in vitro and in vivo Moreover, tumor reoxygenation, probably caused by eribulin-induced vascular remodeling, attenuated cell growth and inhibited ERK1/2 activity, thereby upregulating MITF expression and promoting melanocytic differentiation. Finally, downregulation of MITF protein levels modestly debilitated the antiproliferative effect of eribulin on CCS cells. Taken together, eribulin suppresses CCS through inhibition of cell proliferation and promotion of tumor differentiation by acting both directly on tumor cells and indirectly through tumor reoxygenation.

Abstract
There have been few reports on bone metastases (BMs) from esophageal cancer (EC). The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors in patients with EC with BMs. The present study retrospectively collected data from 58 patients with BMs from EC who were treated at our institution between 2007 and 2016. Patient, tumor and BM-associated characteristics were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were constructed and analyzed using the univariate log-rank test. Multivariate analyses were conducted using the Cox proportional hazards model. The median patient age was 67 years (range, 39–84 years). Multiple BMs were detected in 38 patients (65.5%) and 52 patients (89.7%) exhibited osteolytic BMs. Skeletal-related events (SREs) occurred in 53 patients (91.4%). The one-year overall survival (OS) was 25.3%, and the median OS was 5 months (range, 0–54). Univariate analyses revealed that performance status, visceral or brain metastasis, serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), C-reactive protein, albumin level, and receipt of chemotherapy following BM diagnosis were significantly associated with OS. Multivariate analyses of these factors demonstrated that higher serum CEA levels and no chemotherapy were significant risk factors for poor OS. Multiple osteolytic BMs are frequently observed in patients with EC with BMs, and SREs commonly occur. The prognoses of patients with EC with BMs are poor, but chemotherapy administration following the BM diagnosis should confer a survival benefit.

Abstract
Synovial sarcoma (SS) is considered to be a chemosensitive, soft tissue sarcoma. Therefore, neoadjuvant and/or adjuvant chemotherapy (N/AC) is used for the treatment of high-risk SS patients. However, the role of N/AC remains controversial. The present study aimed to review the clinical outcomes of surgically treated localized SS and investigate the effects of N/AC with long-term observation. The clinical outcomes of 54 patients with surgically treated localized SS were retrospectively analyzed. The median patient age was 42 years (range, 8-81 years), and the median follow-up period was 94 months for survivors (range, 7-220 months). A total of 38 patients (70%) received chemotherapy. Of these, 32 (59%) patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy, 33 (61%) received adjuvant chemotherapy, and 27 (50%) received neoadjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy. Fourteen patients (26%) received adjuvant radiotherapy. Three patients (6%) had local recurrence and 13 patients (24%) developed distant metastasis. The overall survival (OS) rates at 5 and 10 years were 87 and 84%, respectively. N/AC did not improve survival. In conclusion, we found satisfactory long-term OS among patients with a high utilization rate of N/AC. Further study should be necessary to evaluate which population of SS would benefit from N/AC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Few studies have described the characteristics and prognostic factors of elderly patients with osteosarcoma. We retrospectively investigated clinico-pathological features and prognostic factors in osteosarcoma patients > 40 years old. METHODS Patients with high-grade osteosarcoma > 40 years old who were treated at our institutions from 2000 to 2016 were recruited for this study. Information on patient, tumour, and treatment-related factors was collected and statistically analyzed. The median follow-up was 26.5 months (range, 5-139 months) for all patients. RESULTS Fifty patients (30 males and 20 females) were included. The median age at diagnosis was 59.5 years (range, 41-81 years). The primary lesions were found in the limbs in 32 patients, trunk in 12, and craniofacial bones in six. Primary and secondary osteosarcoma occurred in 41 and 9 patients, respectively. Eight patients exhibited initial distant metastasis. Definitive surgery and chemotherapy were performed in 39 patients each. The rate of good responders after neoadjuvant chemotherapy was 38%. The five year overall survival (OS) rates for all patients and those without distant metastasis at diagnosis were 44.5% and 51.1%, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed that definitive surgery was the only significant prognostic factor in non-metastatic patients. The five year OS and disease-free survival (DFS) rates for non-metastatic patients who received definitive surgery were 64.3% and 60%, respectively. Among these patients, neoadjuvant and/or adjuvant chemotherapy significantly improved both OS and DFS. CONCLUSIONS Complete surgical resection and intensive chemotherapy should be performed for osteosarcoma patients > 40 years old despite distinct clinicopathological characteristics from those of younger patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The development of effective chemotherapy regimens and molecular targeting agents are improving the overall survival rates in patients with cancer. However, patients who are non-ambulatory due to metastatic epidural spinal cord compression (MESCC) may be assessed as unable to tolerate chemotherapy secondary to poor performance status. This means that the ambulatory status of patients with cancer might be significant for survival time. METHODS We investigated the functional outcomes and factors influencing overall survival in 31 patients who were non-ambulatory due to MESCC and underwent decompression surgery. The functional outcome was determined by the Frankel grading system. RESULT Twenty-one patients (68%) improved by at least 1 Frankel grade; 17 patients (55%) became ambulatory postoperatively. Most of postoperatively ambulatory patients could undergo postoperative chemotherapy (14/17, 82%). On the other hand, only a few postoperatively non-ambulatory patients could undergo postoperative chemotherapy (2/15, 13%). We observed a complication rate of 35.5% with specific complications including wound infection, pneumonia, and deep vein thrombosis/pulmonary embolus. The median survival duration was 7.0 months. Factors that significantly affected the overall survival in univariate analyses were revised Tokuhashi score (RTS) ≥ 4, postoperative chemotherapy, ambulatory status, and complications (RTS ≥ 4, P < 0.05; postoperative chemotherapy, P < 0.001; ambulatory status, P < 0.001; complications, P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS Decompression surgery for patients who are non-ambulatory due to MESCC directly contributes to functional outcomes and may indirectly contribute to overall survival. If non-ambulatory patients who are assessed as unable to tolerate chemotherapy due to poor performance status regain the ability to walk by decompression surgery, they will have a chance to receive postoperative chemotherapy, thereby increasing their chances of prolonging survival. However, postoperative complications may shorten their survival; therefore, we should carefully consider the surgical indications. RTS is useful for judging the surgical indication.

Abstract
Calcific myonecrosis is a rare soft tissue condition. The first case was reported in 1960, however, the precise pathophysiology of calcific myonecrosis remains unclear. The disease was thought to arise from compartment syndrome within a confined space resulting in necrosis and fibrosis, subsequent repeated intralesional hemorrhage, mass enlargement and calcification. Several previous reports have described calcific myonecrosis, which include the formation of calcific myonecrosis after a prolonged period of post trauma. Notably, calcific myonecrosis has typically been described in the lower legs and characteristic imaging findings have been indicated. Furthermore, surgical intervention carries a high risk of complications. In the present case report 2 cases of calcific myonecrosis that occurred after a prolonged period of time following a traumatic event that impacted the lower leg were reported. CT images revealed disruption of calcified fascia and disease expansion into the outside of the fascia. Previous reports have implied that there is late focal enlargement of calcific myonecrosis following earlier enlargement, which may be caused by herniation through muscle fascia. However, no previous publications have focused on images for evidence of late local enlargement. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report focusing on fascial herniation of calcific myonecrosis using images. Analysis of this feature using images may aid clinicians to differentiate calcific myonecrosis from malignancies.

Abstract
SHARPIN, an adaptor for the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC), plays important roles in NF-κB signaling and inflammation. Here, we have demonstrated a LUBAC-independent role for SHARPIN in regulating melanoma growth. We observed that SHARPIN interacted with PRMT5, a type II protein arginine methyltransferase, and increased its multiprotein complex and methyltransferase activity. Activated PRMT5 controlled the expression of the transcription factors SOX10 and MITF by SHARPIN-dependent arginine dimethylation and inhibition of the transcriptional corepressor SKI. Activation of PRMT5 by SHARPIN counteracted PRMT5 inhibition by methylthioadenosine, a substrate of methylthioadenosine phosphorylase, which is codeleted with cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A) in approximately 15% of human cancers. Collectively, we identified a LUBAC-independent role for SHARPIN in enhancing PRMT5 activity that contributes to melanomagenesis through the SKI/SOX10 regulatory axis.

Abstract
Clear cell sarcoma is an aggressive soft tissue sarcoma and highly resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This devastating disease is defined by EWSR1‐ATF1 fusion gene resulting from chromosomal translocation t(12;22)(q13;q12) and characterized by melanocytic differentiation. A marine‐derived antineoplastic agent, trabectedin, inhibits the growth of myxoid liposarcoma and Ewing sarcoma by causing adipogenic differentiation and neural differentiation, respectively. In this study, we examined the antitumor effects and mechanism of action of trabectedin on human clear cell sarcoma cell lines. We showed that trabectedin decreased the cell proliferation of five clear cell sarcoma cell lines in a dose‐dependent manner in vitro and reduced tumor growth of two mouse xenograft models. Flow cytometry and immunoblot analyses in vitro and immunohistochemical analysis in vivo revealed that trabectedin‐induced G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Furthermore, trabectedin increased the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers along with downregulation of ERK activity in vitro and the rate of melanin‐positive cells in vivo. These results suggest that trabectedin has potent antitumor activity against clear cell sarcoma cells by inducing cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and, in part, by promoting melanocytic differentiation through inactivation of ERK signaling. Our present study indicates that trabectedin is a promising differentiation‐inducing agent for clear cell sarcoma.

Abstract
The linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC) ubiquitin ligase complex, composed of HOIL-1L-interacting protein (HOIP), heme-oxidized IRP2 ubiquitin ligase-1L (HOIL-1L), and SHANK-associated RH domain protein, specifically generates linear polyubiquitin chains and is involved in NF-κB activation. Lack of SHANK-associated RH domain protein, which drastically reduces the amount of HOIP and HOIL-1L, causes chronic proliferative dermatitis (cpdm) in mice. Impaired NF-κB activation and augmented apoptosis have been implicated in the pathogenesis of cpdm in mice. In this study, we found that IFN-γ increased the amount of LUBAC by inducing HOIP and HOIL-1L mRNA transcription and enhanced the signal-induced NF-κB activation in embryonic fibroblasts, keratinocytes, and bone marrow-derived macrophages from wild-type and/or cpdm mice; however, IFN-γ failed to augment NF-κB activation in mouse embryonic fibroblasts lacking linear polyubiquitination activity of LUBAC. Moreover, s.c. injection of IFN-γ for 3 wk into the skin of cpdm mice increased the amount of HOIP, suppressed apoptosis, and ameliorated the dermatitis. Inhibition of keratinocyte apoptosis by IFN-γ injection suppressed neutrophil, macrophage, and mast cell infiltration and the amount of TNF-α in the skin of cpdm mice. Similarly, IFN-α also enhanced the amount of HOIP as well as NF-κB activation, inhibited apoptosis, and ameliorated cpdm dermatitis. These results indicate that the IFNs enhance NF-κB activation and ameliorate cpdm dermatitis by augmenting expression of HOIP and HOIL-1L and linear polyubiquitination activity of LUBAC.

Abstract
Linear ubiquitin chains generated by the linear ubiquitin chain assembly complex (LUBAC) play an important role in NF-κB activation. However, the regulation of linear ubiquitin chain generation by LUBAC is not well characterized. Here, we identified two deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs), ovarian tumor DUB with linear linkage specificity (OTULIN/Gumby/FAM105B) and cylindromatosis (CYLD) that can cleave linear polyubiquitin chains and interact with LUBAC via the N-terminal PNGase/UBA or UBX (PUB) domain of HOIP, a catalytic subunit of LUBAC. HOIP interacts with both CYLD and OTULIN even in unstimulated cells. The interaction of CYLD and OTULIN with HOIP synergistically suppresses LUBAC-mediated linear polyubiquitination and NF-κB activation. Moreover, introduction of a HOIP mutant unable to bind either deubiquitinase into HOIP-null cells augments the activation of NF-κB by TNF-α stimulation. Thus, the interactions between these two deubiquitinases and the LUBAC ubiquitin ligase are involved in controlling the extent of TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation in cells by fine-tuning the generation of linear ubiquitin chains by LUBAC. The interaction of HOIP with OTULIN is also involved in OTULIN suppressing the canonical Wnt signaling pathway activation by LUBAC. Our observations provide molecular insights into the roles of ligase-deubiquitinase interactions in regulating molecular events resulting from linear ubiquitin conjugation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm with a poor prognosis. A retrospective study was performed to accumulate radiotherapy (RT) data. METHODS Data from 17 patients with angiosarcoma of the face and scalp (AFS) who were treated with definitive RT between January 1999 and July 2011 were retrospectively analysed. The total radiation dose was 70 Gy, and the fractional doses were 2.0-2.5 Gy. Combined with RT, chemotherapy using docetaxel alone, recombinant interleukin-2 immunotherapy alone and both of these was performed in 10, 4 and 2 patients, respectively. Three patients underwent limited surgery before RT. RESULTS The response rate was 82%, and the median overall survival (OS) rate was 26 months. Locoregional relapse alone, distant metastasis alone and both of these were confirmed in 4, 5 and 4 patients, respectively. Patients treated with docetaxel showed a better prognosis (p=0.0477), a distant metastasis-free rate (p=0.0063) and a better in-field control rate, although the last was not statistically significant (p=0.1645). CONCLUSION Definitive RT combined with docetaxel chemotherapy provided an effective approach for treating AFS. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE Since patients treated with chemoradiotherpy using docetaxel showed better OS and distant metastasis-free rates than those who did not receive docetaxel, it was warranted to continue use of docetaxel. In chemoradiotherapy at a dose of 70 Gy using docetaxel, 2-year in-field control rate was 67%.

Abstract
The prognosis of angiosarcoma remains very poor, even with combined, multimodal therapy. We report a case with partial response of angiosarcoma of the scalp to sorafenib, which is a new oral, molecular, targeted, multiple-kinase inhibitor. In addition, we confirmed, using immunohistochemistry, that sorafenib suppressed the expression of vascular endothelial growth factors and their receptors on the angiosarcoma tumour cells, and decreased cell numbers by inhibiting cellular proliferation.

Abstract
We report on a 10-year-old child who suffered from acute right coronary obstruction due to catheter-induced coronary dissection. Immediate placement of a perfusion catheter into the obstructed right coronary artery and subsequent overnight reperfusion allowed successful recovery of the right coronary artery lumen without implantation of a stent. Follow-up angiography demonstrated spontaneous regression of the dissected coronary artery and normal right and left ventricular wall motion. The indication of stent implantation should be carefully determined in a child case of iatrogenic coronary dissection because stenting may induce coronary stenosis during growth.

Abstract
A case of early infantile epileptic encephalopathy with suppression-bursts (EIEE or Ohtahara syndrome) with an excellent response to zonisamide is reported. Tonic spasms began immediately after birth and increased in number, such that they formed a series of several dozen spasms lasting for 5 to 15 minutes. When the patient was 1 month old, a partial clonic seizure emerged predominantly on the right side of her face and extremities. It was often followed by tonic spasms and later continued after the beginning of the spasm series. Interictal electroencephalography demonstrated an atypical suppression-burst pattern and focal paroxysmal discharges. Detailed hematologic tests, magnetic resonance imaging, single-photon emission computed tomography, and auditory brainstem response did not reveal any metabolic or structural abnormalities. Oral administration of zonisamide first controlled the partial seizures and, subsequently, the tonic spasms in a dose-dependent fashion. The mode of response to zonisamide and the findings on electroencephalography indicate that EIEE may be caused by multiple independent brain lesions and that EIEE is a heterogeneous disorder. It is suggested that zonisamide may be useful in the treatment of EIEE.

Abstract
Case 1. A 50-year-old woman was referred to our hospital because of multiple bilateral small round lesion on chest radiography. She had undergone total hysterectomy for myoma uteri at the age of 33. She underwent thoracoscopic tumor excision at left lung. The lesion was proved benign. Right side lesions were laterly excised using thoracotomy. Case 2. A 49-year-old woman was referred to us because of two ovoid lesion at left lung area of chest radiography. She also had undergone total hysterectomy for myoma uteri at the age of 37. She underwent tumor extirpation using thoracotomy. All samples of two patients revealed, pathologically, lesions were consisted of benign spindle-like calls similar to those of myoma uteri. Therefore, we consider these lesions were pulmonary metastasis of myoma uteri. Myoma uteri has certain potential of metastasizing to the lung, in spite of benign disease.

Abstract
Natural killer (NK) cells possess two types of cytotoxic activity: natural killer cytotoxicity (NKC) and antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). The NKC is regulated by the negative signal of the NK receptor, which recognizes major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I antigens. However, it is not known whether or not the negative signal influences the ADCC. In this study, the relationship of the ADCC and negative signal was investigated. As target cells, adult T-cell leukemia (ATL) cell lines were used. When the target cells were treated with an anti-human T-lymphotropic virus type-1 (anti-HTLV-1) antibody, they were killed by the NK cells by means of the ADCC (ADCC/anti-HTLV-1). The killing levels were parallel with the cell surface HTLV-1 antigenicity. However, when these cells lines were treated with an anti-HLA, the ADCC (ADCC/anti-HLA) showed inverse correlation with the HLA antigenicity. Furthermore, when HLA polymorphic and monomorphic determinants of these target cells were blocked by F(ab')2 fragments of the anti-HLA and W6/32, the ADCC/anti-HLA was enhanced, but the ADCC/anti-HTLV-1 was not enhanced. These results suggest that the ADCC/anti-HLA may have an intimate relationship with the MHC class I antigens. The ADCC/anti-HLA may be suppressed by the negative signal. On the other hand, the ADCC/anti-HTLV-1 may have no relationship with the class I antigens and the negative signal may have no influence against the ADCC/anti-HTLV-1. The biological mechanism of this difference remains to be investigated.

Abstract
The involvement of the cardiovascular system in rabbits with serum sickness is similar of that in Kawasaki disease, both with respect to the histologic changes of the myocardium, the valves, the coronary arteries, and the aorta and to the sequence with which they appear. Although coronary arteritis appears the same histologically, aneurysms did not occur in mature rabbits, even in case of necrosis of an arterial segment with deletion of muscle and elastic tissue. On the other hand, weanling rabbits with serum sickness had a tendency to develop aneurysms of coronary arteries, despite little cellular infiltration and reactive fibrocellular hyperplasia. The age factor thus appears to play an important role in the development of coronary aneurysms in Kawasaki disease, irrespective of the underlying mechanism, be it a markedly increased permeability to mediators through degenerated endothelial cells, or primary degenerated muscle cells with marked thinning of the media without much inflammatory cellular reaction. Furthermore, this study provides an insight into the long-term prognosis of transient dilatation of coronary arteries in the acute stage of Kawasaki disease.

Abstract
A QS pattern in the right precordial leads of the electrocardiogram was noted in a 9-year-old asymptomatic boy. Echocardiography revealed paradoxical movement of the interventricular septum, which showed interstitial myocardial fibrosis in the biopsy specimen and a defective uptake of thallium-201. Extensive myocardial fibrosis was probably a sequela of an attack of myocarditis in infancy.

Abstract
A 12-year-old boy with rheumatic fever associated with myocardial infarction is presented. As sequelae, left ventricular aneurysm and diffuse narrowing of the anterior descending branch of the left coronary artery were demonstrated by angiography. Given the high incidence of coronary arteritis in rheumatic fever, it is likely that arteritis contributed to the infarction.
