Abstract
The aim was to characterize and assess the reproductive performance of a long interval prostaglandin (PG)-based protocol for timed AI (TAI) at different times. During breeding season three experiments were done involving 622 Merino ewes, 11 rams, and five androgenized wethers per 100 ewes. All ewes were estrus synchronized with two PG injections 15-day apart (PG15): Day -15 and 0 (Hour 0). Estrous distribution respect to Hour 0, estrous response and synchrony after Hour 0, and interval from Hour 0 to estrus detection (PG-estrus) was evaluated (Experiment I; n = 105 ewes). Interval from estrus detection to ovulation (estrus-ovulation) and from Hour 0 to ovulation (PG-ovulation) was determined (Experiment II; n = 12 ewes). Visual-physical score of cervical mucus at TAI, non-return to service to Day 23 (NRR23), fertility, prolificacy, and fecundity to Day 60 in four cervical fresh semen TAI groups was evaluated (Experiment III; n = 505 ewes; 107 nulliparous-398 multiparous). Three groups with single service at 56 (Control), 44 or 68, and one with double service at 44 and 68 ± 1.5 h after Hour 0 (PG15-56, PG15-44, PG15-68, and PG15-44/68 groups, respectively) were tested. Ninety-eight-point one percent of the ewes showed estrus from Hour -48 up to 84 respects to Hour 0. Twenty percent of them showed estrus from Hour -48 up to 0, and 78.1 % from Hour 12 up to 84 (Experiment I). The largest proportion of ewes in estrus was observed between Hour 36 and 60 (80.5 %). PG-estrus interval was 54.1 ± 10 h (means ± SD). Estrus-ovulation interval was 32.4 ± 5.8 h, and PG-ovulation interval was 77.0 ± 16.6 h (Experiment II). Ewe parity did not affect any of the reproductive variables (P > 0.05; Experiment III). There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) between Control and different groups in mucus score (2.18 ± 0.08, 2.02 ± 0.07, 2.14 ± 0.09, 2.25 ± 0.10), NRR23 (76.0, 71.9, 78.6, 79.4 %) or fertility (66.4, 64.1, 66.7, 73.8 %; PG15-56, PG15-44, PG15-68 or PG15-44/68 groups, respectively). Prolificacy in PG15-44 group was lower (1.07 ± 0.03; P < 0.05) than other groups (1.27 ± 0.05, 1.23 ± 0.05, 1.20 ± 0.04), and fecundity than PG15-44/68 group (0.84, 0.69, 0.82, 0.89), without differences among other groups (PG15-56, PG15-44, PG15-68 or PG15-44/68 groups, respectively). We concluded that any time between 56 and 68 h after PG15 protocol could be used to perform cervical TAI using fresh semen, without benefits of a double TAI service at 44 and 68 h.

Abstract
The hallmarks of chromosome organization in multicellular eukaryotes are chromosome territories (CT), chromatin compartments, and different types of domains, including topologically associated domains (TADs). Yet, most of these concepts derive from analyses of organisms with monocentric chromosomes. Here we describe the 3D genome architecture of an organism with holocentric chromosomes, the silkworm Bombyx mori . At the genome-wide scale, B. mori chromosomes form highly separated territories and lack substantial trans contacts. As described in other eukaryotes, B. mori chromosomes segregate into an active A and an inactive B compartment. Remarkably, we also identify a third compartment, Secluded "S", with a unique contact pattern. Compartment S shows strong enrichment of short-range contacts and depletion of long-range contacts. It hosts a unique combination of genetic and epigenetic features, localizes at the periphery of CTs and shows developmental plasticity. Biophysical modeling shows that formation of such secluded domains requires a new mechanism - a high density of extruded loops within them along with low level of extrusion and compartmentalization of A and B. Together with other evidence of loop extrusion in interphase, this suggests SMC-mediated loop extrusion in this insect. Overall, our analyses highlight the evolutionary plasticity of 3D genome organization driven by a new combination of known processes.

Abstract
Introduction Cardiovascular events (CVE) are infrequent adverse effects in patients receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Nonetheless, it constitutes a threat for patient’s life and may compromise continuing ECT. Objectives To describe a case of acute-onset atrial fibrillation under combined therapy with ECT and venlafaxine. Methods We present a 76-year-old man diagnosed of delusional disorder and without any previous CVE, who was hospitalized in our acute psychiatric unit by major depressive episode with psychotic symptoms resistant to pharmacological treatment (valproic-acid 100mg/d, haloperidol 6mg/d, venlafaxine 300mg/d). ECT was initiated presenting atrial fibrillation after first session of ECT, requiring amiodarone and anticoagulant treatment for stabilization. Second session of ECT was delayed for three-weeks, worsening the psychiatric symptoms. Haloperidol was discontinued initiating lurasidone with better cardiovascular profile. Results
CVE occur in 2% of the patients receiving ECT, being acute arrhythmia the most frequent one. Among them, few cases of atrial fibrillation (AF) under ECT have been reported. It has been hypothesised that initial vagal response followed by catecholamine surge secondary to ECT could facilitate the development of AF. In addition venlafaxine, an antidepressant drug, may also predispose to arrhythmia in high-risk individuals. High doses of venlafaxine (>300mg/d) combined with ECT have been related with an increment of CVE. Conclusions Although clinically effective for the treatment of major depression disorder, combined therapy of ECT and venlafaxine could precipitate the start of a CVE in genetically susceptible individuals. Therefore, identify and clarify potential risk factors other than previous history of CVE is critical to reduce morbidity and mortality in these patients. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Abstract
In contrast to the well-recognized permafrost carbon (C) feedback to climate change, the fate of permafrost nitrogen (N) after thaw is poorly understood. According to mounting evidence, part of the N liberated from permafrost may be released to the atmosphere as the strong greenhouse gas (GHG) nitrous oxide (N2O). Here, we report post-thaw N2O release from late Pleistocene permafrost deposits called Yedoma, which store a substantial part of permafrost C and N and are highly vulnerable to thaw. While freshly thawed, unvegetated Yedoma in disturbed areas emit little N2O, emissions increase within few years after stabilization, drying and revegetation with grasses to high rates (548 (133–6286) μg N m−2 day−1; median with (range)), exceeding by 1–2 orders of magnitude the typical rates from permafrost-affected soils. Using targeted metagenomics of key N cycling genes, we link the increase in in situ N2O emissions with structural changes of the microbial community responsible for N cycling. Our results highlight the importance of extra N availability from thawing Yedoma permafrost, causing a positive climate feedback from the Arctic in the form of N2O emissions. During permafrost thaw, nitrogen can be released as the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide, but the magnitude of this flux is unknown. Nitrous oxide emissions from ice-rich permafrost deposits are reported here, showing that emissions increase after thawing and stabilization and could represent an unappreciated positive climate feedback in the Arctic.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of the HISPANIAS (HyperperfusIon Syndrome Post-carotid ANgIoplasty And Stenting) study was to define CHS rates and develop a clinical predictive model for cerebral hyperperfusion syndrome (CHS) after carotid artery stenting (CAS). BACKGROUND CHS is a severe complication following CAS. The presence of clinical manifestations is estimated on the basis of retrospective reviews and is still uncertain. METHODS The HISPANIAS study was a national prospective multicenter study with 14 recruiting hospitals. CHS was classified as mild (headache only) and moderate-severe (seizure, impaired level of consciousness, or development of focal neurological signs). RESULTS A total of 757 CAS procedures were performed. CHS occurred in 22 (2.9%) patients, in which 16 (2.1%) had moderate-severe CHS and 6 (0.8%) had mild CHS (only headache). The rate of hemorrhages was 0.7% and was associated with high mortality (20%). Pre-operative predictors of moderate-severe CHS in multivariate analysis were female sex (odds ratio [OR]: 3.24; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.11 to 9.47; p = 0.03), older patients (OR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.01 to 1.17; p = 0.02), left carotid artery treated (OR: 4.13; 95% CI: 1.11 to 15.40; p = 0.03), and chronic renal failure (OR: 6.29; 95% CI: 1.75 to 22.57; p = 0.005). The area under the curve of this clinical and radiological model was 0.86 (95% CI: 0.81 to 0.92; p = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The rate of CHS in the HISPANIAS study was 2.9%, with moderate-severe CHS of 2.1%. CHS was independently associated with female sex, older age, history of chronic kidney disease, and a treated left carotid artery. Although further investigations are needed, the authors propose a model to identify high-risk patients and develop strategies to decrease CHS morbidity and mortality in the future.

Abstract
AIMS Hepatitis C virus antigen (HCV-Ag) detection requires retesting for samples with grey zone results (GzR), adding cost and time and decreasing reliability. Our aim in this study was to evaluate the frequency and significance of GzR during the use of the automated Architect HCV-Ag assay in routine clinical practice. METHODS AND RESULTS We studied HCV-Ag levels in 952 serum samples using the ARCHITECT HCV-Ag assay. GzR were detected in 33 samples; 25 were reactive on retesting and 19 were anti-HCV positive. Seventeen of these 19 samples were tested for HCV-RNA and were all reactive (viral loads <104 IU ml-1 ). The remaining six samples were anti-HCV nonreactive and had undetectable HCV-RNA. Eight GzR samples were nonreactive on retesting, seven were anti-HCV nonreactive (three underwent HCV-RNA quantification and were all nonreactive), and one was anti-HCV reactive (HCV-RNA nonreactive). No significant differences were found on comparing HCV-Ag values. CONCLUSIONS Grey zone results found to be negative on retesting do not need additional technique testing, except in donor screening scenarios, where the use of molecular methods would be advisable. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The proposed diagnostic algorithm confirms that, eventhough GzR occur, hepatitis C virus antigen is a robust alternative to HCV-RNA detection in the active detection of infections.

Abstract
In both human and murine systems, we have developed an adoptive cellular therapy platform against medulloblastoma and glioblastoma that uses dendritic cells pulsed with a tumor RNA transcriptome to expand polyclonal tumor-reactive T cells against a plurality of antigens within heterogeneous brain tumors. We demonstrate that peripheral TCR Vβ repertoire analysis after adoptive cellular therapy reveals that effective response to adoptive cellular therapy is concordant with massive in vivo expansion and persistence of tumor-specific T cell clones within the peripheral blood. In preclinical models of medulloblastoma and glioblastoma, and in a patient with relapsed medulloblastoma receiving adoptive cellular therapy, an early and massive expansion of tumor-reactive lymphocytes, coupled with prolonged persistence in the peripheral blood, is observed during effective therapeutic response to immunotherapy treatment.

Abstract
Cutaneous metastases are rarely the initial manifestation of a previously undiagnosed malignancy and keratoacanthoma-like lesions are a notoriously unusual presentation pattern of cutaneous dissemination of a primary tumor. Herein, we report a 40-year-old woman presenting to our dermatology department with multiple keratoacanthoma-like scalp nodules. Subsequent investigation determined it to be the first manifestation of a disseminated endometrial epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, eventually causing the patient's death. Epithelioid trophoblastic tumor, a rare form of gestational trophoblastic disease, is a recently described neoplasm whose cutaneous metastasis has not been previously reported in the literature.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Silent corticotroph tumors are a pituitary neuroendocrine tumor subtype of corticotroph lineage that do not clinically express Cushing's disease. The silencing of this type of tumor is not fully understood. The aim of the present study was to delve into the lack of secretory activity, studying the post-transcriptional and post-translational regulation of POMC/ACTH in a series of molecularly identified functioning and silent corticotroph tumors. DESIGN We analyzed 24 silent corticotroph, 23 functioning corticotroph and 25 silent gonadotroph tumors. METHODS We used Sanger sequencing, quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot to analyze genetic alterations in POMC, gene expression of TBX19, NEUROD1, POMC, PCSK1, PCSK2, CPE and PAM and protein expression of POMC, PC1/3, PC2, CPE and PAM. RESULTS We found different polymorphisms in the POMC gene of corticotroph tumors, some of them related to deficiency of proopiomelanocortin. Silent corticotroph tumors showed lower PC1/3 gene and protein expression than functioning ones, especially compared to micro-functioning corticotroph tumors (all P < 0.05). Moreover, we found a positive correlation between PC2 and CPE gene and protein expression (rho ≥ 0.670, P < 0.009) in silent corticotroph tumors compared with functioning ones. CONCLUSIONS By studying the post-transcriptional and post-translational processing of POMC and ACTH, respectively, in a large series of silent and functioning corticotroph tumors, we found that the lack of secretory activity of these tumors is related to an impaired processing of POMC and a high degradation of ACTH, with the macro-functioning corticotroph tumor behaving as an intermediate state between micro-functioning and silent corticotroph tumors.

Abstract
Experiments have shown that increasing dissolved CO2 concentrations (i.e. Ocean Acidification, OA) in marine ecosystems may act as nutrient for primary producers (e.g. fleshy algae) or a stressor for calcifying species (e.g., coralline algae, corals, molluscs). For the first time, rapid habitat dominance shifts and altered competitive replacement from a reef-forming to a non-reef-forming biogenic habitat were documented over one-year exposure to low pH/high CO2 through a transplant experiment off Vulcano Island CO2 seeps (NE Sicily, Italy). Ocean acidification decreased vermetid reefs complexity via a reduction in the reef-building species density, boosted canopy macroalgae and led to changes in composition, structure and functional diversity of the associated benthic assemblages. OA effects on invertebrate richness and abundance were nonlinear, being maximal at intermediate complexity levels of vermetid reefs and canopy forming algae. Abundance of higher order consumers (e.g. carnivores, suspension feeders) decreased under elevated CO2 levels. Herbivores were non-linearly related to OA conditions, with increasing competitive release only of minor intertidal grazers (e.g. amphipods) under elevated CO2 levels. Our results support the dual role of CO2 (as a stressor and as a resource) in disrupting the state of rocky shore communities, and raise specific concerns about the future of intertidal reef ecosystem under increasing CO2 emissions. We contribute to inform predictions of the complex and nonlinear community effects of OA on biogenic habitats, but at the same time encourage the use of multiple natural CO2 gradients in providing quantitative data on changing community responses to long-term CO2 exposure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Paclitaxel has been used frequently for Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) for ovarian carcinomatosis. Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC are associated with high rates of morbidity being anastomotic dehiscence one of the most frequent. The objective of this study is to quantify the effect of Paclitaxel-based HIPEC on colonic anastomosis in an experimental rat model. METHODS After left colon resection and anastomosis, animals were randomized into four groups: Controls (C); Hyperthermia (H); Normothermic Intraperitoneal Paclitaxel (CP) and Paclitaxel-based HIPEC (HP). On postoperative day four, animals' peritoneal cavities were examined macroscopically, colon anastomosis burst pressures measured and specimens analyzed histologically. RESULTS Thirty-nine animals were randomized and 36 were included in the analysis. H group presented the highest burst pressure 105.11 ± 22.9 mmHg, which was 27% higher than C (77.89 ± 27.6 mmHg). On the other hand, HP presented the lowest burst pressure 64 ± 26 mmHg, 16% lower than C group and 39% lower than H, being this latter difference statistically significant (p = 0.004). There were no significant differences regarding weight loss, adhesion scores, perianastomotic abscesses and histological findings (inflammation, fibroblasts, neoangiogenesis, and collagen among groups). CONCLUSION Strength of colonic anastomosis was improved by isolated hyperthermia and negatively affected by Paclitaxel-based HIPEC.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive impact of a short-term protein supplementation on a long interval prostaglandin-based protocol (two PG injections 15 d apart; PG15) for timed artificial insemination in sheep. During the breeding season, 437 multiparous Merino ewes grazing native pastures (forage allowance of 6 kg of dry matter/100 kg of live weight; crude protein: 10.8%, metabolic energy: 2.1 Mcal/kg of dry matter) were selected. Ewes were allocated, according to body condition score (3.2 ± 0.2) and body weight (40.6 ± 4.9 kg, mean ± SD), to a 2 × 2 factorial design: type of estrus -spontaneous estrus (SE) or induced with PG15 (PG15)-, and supplementation (yes or no) before insemination (+FF; soybean meal at Days -10 to -3; crude protein: 51.9%, metabolic energy: 2.8 Mcal/kg of dry matter; average consumption 0.9% live weight/ewe/day of dry matter). All ewes were cervically artificial inseminated (Day -2 to -3 in SE ewes at estrus detection; Day 0 = timed artificial insemination in PG15 ewes). Ovulation rate on Day 7, non-return to service on Day 23, conception, fertility, prolificacy and fecundity on Day 60 were evaluated. Ovulation rate (1.17 ± 0.40 vs. 1.06 ± 0.25), non-return to service at Day 23 (81.7 vs. 64.2%), conception (78.8 vs. 61.5%), fertility (75.2 vs. 61.5%) and fecundity (0.77 vs. 0.62) were higher in ewes from SE than PG15 group (P < 0.05). However, no differences were observed in prolificacy (1.02 ± 0.16 vs. 1.01 ± 0,12) between groups (P > 0.05). Protein supplementation increased ovulation rate (1.30 ± 0.45 vs. 1.17 ± 0.40), prolificacy (1.18 ± 0.39 vs. 1.02 ± 0.16) and fecundity (0.94 vs. 0.77%; P < 0.05), but not non-return to service on Day 23 (83.8 vs. 81.7%), conception (82.9 vs. 78.8%) or fertility (79.1 vs. 75.2%; P > 0.05) in SE group. The supplement feed to PG15 ewes increased ovulation rate (1.35 ± 0.45 vs. 1.06 ± 0.25), prolificacy (1.25 ± 0.43 vs. 1.01 ± 0.12) and fecundity (0.79 vs. 0.62%; P < 0.05) to levels comparable to SE + FF ewes (P > 0.05). The magnitude of the increase in ovulation rate in PG15 was greater than in the SE group (27 vs. 11%; P < 0.05). However, non-return to service on Day 23 (65.1 vs. 64.2%), conception (63.3 vs 61.5%), and fertility rate (63.3 vs. 61.5%; P < 0.05) remained similar in PG15 supplemented or not supplemented ewes. In conclusion, a short-term protein supplementation before cervical time artificial insemination improved the reproductive performance of ewes synchronized with the PG15 protocol to levels comparable to the SE group.

Abstract
Objective To determine whether obesity, physical fitness, and physical activity parameters are associated with the enzymatic activity of serum dipeptidyl peptidase IV (sDPPIV) in a sample of healthy women and men. Design and methods We have correlated parameters of obesity, physical fitness, and physical activity with sDPPIV activity in 374 healthy subjects (age: 60.7 ± 6.9 years, body mass index: 26.1 ± 4.1 kg/m2). Enzymatic activity was analyzed using spectrofluorimetry, body composition was assessed by impedanciometry, physical fitness data were obtained using the Senior Fitness Test, and physical activity data were collected by accelerometer. Pearson's partial correlation analysis was applied to determine the relationship between DPPIV activity and the rest of parameters and significantly correlated variables were introduced into linear regression models to predict DPPIV. Results Serum DPPIV activity was negatively associated with obesity parameters such as body mass (r = -0.112), body mass index (BMI) (r = -0.147), waist circumference (r = -0.164), waist-to-hip ratio (-0.104), and percentage of fat mass (r = -0.185). Serum DPPIV activity was positively associated with cardiovascular fitness (r = 0.138), total amount of physical activity (r = 0.153), and time spent doing light exercise (r = 0.184). Regression models revealed sex differences in enzyme activity with overall activity higher in women than in men (β = 0.437, p < 0.001). Further, percent fat mass was an independent negative predictor of DPPIV activity (β = -0.184, p = 0.001). Serum DPPIV activity was positively predicted based on the amount of time spent doing light physical activity (β = 0.167, p = 0.001). Conclusion Our results demonstrate that sDPPIV activity is positively associated with healthier parameters regarding fatness, fitness and physical activity.

Abstract
AIM Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide and, although the majority of cases are sporadic, its development and progression depends on a range of factors: environmental, genetic and epigenetic. A variety of genetic pathways have been described as being crucial in CRC, including protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs). PTPN13 (also called FAP-1) is a non-receptor PTP and interacts with a number of important components of growth and apoptosis pathways. It is also involved in the inhibition of Fas-induced apoptosis. METHOD The single nucleotide polymorphism genotype at Y2081D (T>G) (rs989902) of PTPN13 exon 39 was determined in DNA extracted from blood samples from 174 sporadic CRC patients and 176 healthy individuals. Also, a meta-analysis was performed based on three articles accessed via the PubMed and ResearchGate databases. RESULTS The risk of CRC was 2.087 times greater for patients with the GG genotype than for those with the TT genotype (P = 0.0475). In the meta-analysis, a significantly increased risk of cancer associated with the G allele was observed in the squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck subgroup (TT vs GG+GT, OR 1.23, 95% CI [1.02, 1.47], P = 0.0258), and a significantly decreased risk in the breast cancer subgroup (TT vs GG+GT, OR 0.63, 95% CI [0.41, 0.96], P = 0.0334) and in the CRC subgroup (GT+TT vs GG, OR 0.51, 95% CI [0.41, 0.95], P = 0.0333). CONCLUSION PTPN13 rs989902 is significantly associated with the risk of CRC in the Polish population. Given that this report provides the first evidence of an association of PTPN13 rs989902 with the risk of CRC in a Caucasian population, further large scale studies are necessary to confirm this finding.

Abstract
A side effect of increased life expectancy is a surge in sequelae of diseases and injuries, which in turn increase the duration of life with disability among the elderly. The aim of this study was to ascertain the physical activity and nutritional parameters that better predict cardiovascular risk in a cohort of older women. A cross-sectional study was designed including 65 women able to independently perform basic activities of daily life. Data collection included anthropometric measurement, blood pressure measurement, blood analytics, objectively measurement of physical activity, and dietary assessment. We were able to generate models that explain the relationship between physical activity, diet, and these health measurement parameters. We observed that the combination of moderate physical activity and a diet including protein-rich foods as nuts, dairy, and eggs were better predictors associated with favorable changes in risk factors for cardiovascular disease than age.

Abstract
Background Serum peptidases, such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2), neutral endopeptidase (NEP), aminopeptidase N (APN), and aminopeptidase A (APA), are important elements of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS). Dysregulation of these enzymes has been associated with hypertension and cardiovascular risk. In the present study, serum activities of RAS peptidases were analyzed to evaluate the existence of sexual differences, with a possible different pattern in pre- and post-andropausal/post-menopausal participants. Methods One hundred and eighteen healthy men and women between 41 and 70 years of age (58 women and 60 men) were recruited to participate in the study. Serum RAS-regulating enzymes were measured by spectrofluorimetry. Enzymatic activity was recorded as units of enzyme per milliliter of serum (U/mL). Results Significantly lower serum APA activity was observed in men with respect to women; no sex differences were detected for ACE, ACE2, NEP, or APN. Significantly lower APA and ACE serum activity were observed in older men compared to older women. In contrast, younger (<55 years) men had significantly higher values of NEP serum activity than younger women. Significantly lower ACE serum activity was detected in older men compared to younger men. In women, significantly higher ACE2 serum activity was observed in older women compared to younger women. Conclusions These results suggest a differential effect of aging on the activity of RAS enzymes in men and women, especially with respect to the breakpoint of andropausia/menopausia, on the critical serum enzymatic activities of the RAS, which could correlate with sexual differences in cardiovascular risk.

Abstract
In the spring of 2003, a series of sudden deaths in a group of adult lions ( Panthera leo) with a previous history of depression, inanition, and lethargy, was investigated. Five animals died within 24 to 36 hours after onset of signs of disease. Serologic screening for viral disease detection was negative, evidence of parasites was not detected, and results of a complete blood count and serum biochemical analysis were within reference intervals in all lions. The most relevant lesions observed were multiple areas of necrosis and hemorrhage in the intestinal outer muscular layer, and cellulitis with an intense bloody edema in the mesenteric and the pericardial fat tissue. On the basis of the fulminant course of the disease, the gross and histologic findings, and the isolation and identification of Clostridium sordellii, a diagnosis of infectious myositis and cellulitis associated with acute clostridiosis was made. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first report of sudden death associated with C. sordellii in felines.

Abstract
OBJETIVE To compare the results of the administration of HIPEC with Paclitaxel or Cisplatin after cytoreduction in patients with stage IIIC-IV ovarian cancer, especially focused on disease-free survival. PATIENTS We retrospectively analyzed a consecutive series of patients operated after being diagnosed with stage III-C/IV serous epithelial ovarian carcinoma. Patients included in the study were treated between January 2008 and March 2015. After cytoreduction, Paclitaxel (doses of 60 mg/m(2)O or Cisplatin (doses of 75 mg/m(2)) were used. RESULTS A total of 111 patients were included. Median age was 61 years. In 60 of them (54%) Paclitaxel was used during HIPEC treatment and 51 patients (46%) were treated with Cisplatin. PCI was similar between groups (PCI = 11 in both cases). Median follow up was 34 months (12-96 months). The median disease free survival in Paclitaxel Group was 27 months and 33 months in Cisplatin Group (p = 0.551). In patients treated with Paclitaxel disease free survival rates at 1, 2, and 3 years were 79%, 60% and 46%. In patients treated with Cisplatin disease free survival at 1, 2, and 3 years were 64%, 50% and 40% respectively. After a multivariate analysis, incomplete cytoreduction (HR: 6.54, 95% CI 2.98-10.17, p < 0.01) and PCI >11 (HR: 2.15, 95% CI 1.42-6.68, p < 0.05) were identified as independent factors associated with a reduced disease-free survival. Cystotatic used was not relevant regarding disease free survival analysis. CONCLUSION HIPEC with paclitaxel or cisplatin after cytoreduction in patients with ovarian cancer IIIC-IV has not shown different results in disease-free survival outcomes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study is to report the perioperative outcomes of cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients ≥75 years from a Spanish multi-institutional experience. METHODS This multi-institutional retrospectively analyzed a prospectively collected clinical data from 10 Spanish hospitals that are part of the Spanish Group Peritoneal Cancer Surgery (GECOP). We assessed postoperative morbidity rates and performed univariate and multivariate analyses of factors associated with overall (grade I-IV) and major (grade III-IV) postoperative morbidity. RESULTS A total of 85 patients aged ≥75 years were included. Forty six postoperative adverse events were detected in 37 patients (43.5%). Twenty five complications in 20 patients (23.5%) were mild (grade I-II) and 16 complications in 12 patients (14.1%) were moderate-severe (grade III-IV). Five patients died in the first 90 days after the procedure (5.9%). After multivariate analysis, independent factors associated with postoperative complications were: PCI> 12 (OR: 4.14, 95% CI 1.22-14.12, p = 0.043) and the need for perioperative blood transfusion (OR: 14.91, 95% CI 3.87-57.46, p < 0.001). Regarding grade III-IV complications, after multivariate analysis, the presence of preoperative albumin levels <3.5 mgr/dl (OR: 9.15, 95% CI 1.38-60.57, p = 0.017), need for diaphragmatic peritonectomy procedures (OR: 11.32, 95% CI 1.40-91.32, p = 0.023) and perioperative blood transfusion (OR: 8.58, 95% CI 1.44-51.16, p = 0.018) were independent factors. CONCLUSIONS Cytoreductive surgery and performing HIPEC by experienced groups in selected patients aged ≥75 years can be performed with morbidity and mortality similar to that described in the literature.

Abstract
For the first time, fine mapping for sfl locus was carried out using a battery of new STMS and SNP markers. The target region was delimited to 92.6 Kb where seven annotated genes were found that could be candidate genes for the simple/double podding trait in chickpea. Four recombinant inbred populations (RIP-1, RIP-7, RIP-11, and CPR-01) were used to map the double podding gene (sfl) in chickpea. In RIP-1, the gene was initially mapped on linkage group (LG) 6 between the two sequence-tagged microsatellite site (STMS) markers TA120 and TR1. Eight new STMS markers were added onto LG6 in the target region and sfl locus was finally located between CAGM27819 and CAGM27777 markers within an interval of 2 cM. Seven out of the eight markers were mapped in RIP-7 and its reciprocal RIP-11 confirming the location of the sfl locus to a 4.8 cM interval flanked by TR44 and CAGM27705. Furthermore, using a high-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) map of CPR-01, sfl was mapped to the same genomic region in a 5.1 cM interval between TR44 and the SNP scaffold1646p97220. Five pairs of near isogenic lines (NILs) and eight recombinant inbred lines (RILs) were used to refine this region in the chickpea physical map. Combining data from linkage analysis in four RIPs, marker physical positions and recombination events obtained in both pairs of NILs and selected RILs, sfl could be placed within a genomic window of 92.6 Kb. Seven annotated genes were extracted from this region. The regulator of axillary meristem-predicted gene could be a candidate gene for the simple/double podding gene. This study provides additional set of markers flanking and tightly linked to sfl locus that are useful for marker-assisted selection.

Abstract
Cellular senescence is an antiproliferative response with essential functions in tumor suppression and tissue homeostasis. Here we show that SIX1, a member of the SIX family of homeobox transcriptional factors, is a novel repressor of senescence. Our data show that SIX1 is specifically downregulated in fibroblasts upon oncogenic stress and other pro-senescence stimuli, as well as in senescent skin premalignant lesions. Silencing of SIX1 in human fibroblasts suffices to trigger senescence, which is mediated by p16INK4A and lacks a canonical senescence-associated secretory phenotype. Interestingly, SIX1-associated senescence is further characterized by the expression of a set of development and differentiation-related genes that significantly overlap with genes associated with SIX1 in organogenesis or human tumors, and show coincident regulation in oncogene-induced senescence. Mechanistically, we show that gene regulation by SIX1 during senescence is mediated, at least in part, by cooperation with Polycomb repressive complexes. In summary, our results identify SIX1, a key development regulator altered in human tumors, as a critical repressor of cellular senescence, providing a novel connection between senescence, differentiation and tumorigenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Changing lifestyle habits is considered the principal measure for the control of blood pressure and obesity. The aim of this study was to characterize the eating habits, anthropometric characteristics, physical fitness and blood pressure of students of health science degrees during the first three academic years and to explore the relation between the aforementioned parameters. METHODS This was a longitudinal study conducted over three years on the eating habits and physical fitness of health science students (n=366) and the influence of these factors on blood pressure and obesity. RESULTS The mean food group intakes of both female and male participants corresponded to a high consumption of lean and fatty meat, sweets and pastries and a low consumption of cereals, fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish, nuts and vegetables. Blood pressure and obesity-related parameters were within normal ranges and did not change over the study period. Aerobic capacity values increased in men from the beginning to the end of the study, while V02max decreased in women between the first and second years. CONCLUSION We note that, in both women and men, blood pressure values were lower when diet was high in vegetables, legumes, nuts, fish and olive oil. In both sexes, we found a negative correlation between aerobic capacity and systolic and diastolic blood pressure and a positive correlation between obesity and blood pressure. The pattern of the eating habits and changes therein were different in young women and men, the former being focused on improving their diet and the latter on improving their physical fitness.
