Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of ions released from surface pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler on collagen morphology, remineralization, and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of demineralized dentin. MATERIALS AND METHODS Bovine incisor root dentins were demineralized with EDTA and divided into three treatment groups: 1) water (control); 2) S-PRG filler eluate; 3) 125 ppm sodium fluoride (NaF). After a 3-min treatment, the specimens were stored in simulated body fluid (SBF) for 3 months. Collagen morphology and remineralization were assessed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Additionally, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) was measured. RESULTS TEM and SEM demonstrated that S-PRG induced more effective remineralization compared to NaF, while the control group exhibited faint mineral deposition with collagen degradation. S-PRG displayed the most homogenous mineral deposition in collagen fibrils, along with closure of interfibrillar spaces. Extensive mineral precipitation was observed within dentinal tubules in the S-PRG group. In addition, S-PRG filler eluate demonstrated significantly higher phosphate-to-amide ratio and UTS compared to NaF and control groups (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Ion released from S-PRG filler positively influenced collagen morphology, remineralization, and ultimate tensile strength of demineralized dentin. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE S-PRG filler enhances remineralization and improve the biomechanics of demineralized dentin.

Abstract
Currently, bio-natural injectable hydrogels are receiving a lot of attention due to their ability to control, adjust, and adapt to random bone defects, in addition, to their ability to mimic the composition of natural bones. From such a viewpoint, this study goal is to prepare and characterize the injectable hydrogels paste based on the natural alginate (Alg) derived from brown sea algae as a polysaccharide polymer, which coupled with nano biogenic-hydroxyapatite (n-HA) prepared from eggshells and enriched with valuable trace elements. The viscosity and mechanical properties of the paste were investigated. As well as the in-vitro study in terms of water absorption and biodegradability in the PBS, biocompatibility and the capability of the injectable Alginate/n-Hydroxyapatite (Alg/n-HA) to regenerate bone for the most suitable injectable form. The injectable hydrogel (BP -B sample) was chosen for the study as it had an appropriate setting time for injecting (13 mins), and suitable compressive strength reached 6.3 MPa. The in vivo study was also carried out including a post-surgery follow-up test of the newly formed bone (NB) in the defect area after 10 and 20 weeks using different techniques such as (SEM/EDX) and histological analysis, the density of the newly formed bone by Dual x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), blood biochemistry and the radiology test. The results proved that the injectable hydrogels Alginate/n-Hydroxyapatite (Alg/n-HA) had an appreciated biodegradability and bioactivity, which allow the progress of angiogenesis, endochondral ossification, and osteogenesis throughout the defect area, which positively impacts the healing time and ensures the full restoration for the well-mature bone tissue that similar to the natural bone.

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a novel fiber-optical dosimetry sensor for radiation measurement in biological applications. A two-dimensional (2D) fiber-optical dosimeter (FOD) for radiation measurement is considered. The sensors are arranged as a 2D array in a tailored holder. This FOD targets accurate industrial and medical applications which seek more tolerant radiation dosimeters. In this paper, the FOD sensors are subjected to gamma-ray radiation facilities from the 137Cs gamma-ray irradiator type for low doses and 60Co gamma-ray irradiator for high doses. For better evaluation of radiation effects on the FOD sample, the measurements are performed using eight sensors (hollow cylinder shape) with two samples in each dose. The sensors were measured before and after each irradiation. To the author's knowledge, the measurements of FOD transplanted inside animals are presented for the first time in this paper. A 2D simulation program has been implemented for numerical simulation based on the attenuation factors from the absorbed dose inside the in vivo models. A comparison between the FOD and the standard thermo-luminescence detector is presented based on the test of in vivo animal models. The results indicate that the proposed FOD sensor is more stable and has higher sensitivity.

Abstract
Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2 RR) to multi-carbon products (C2+ ) in acidic electrolyte is one of the most advanced routes for tackling our current climate and energy crisis. However, the competing hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the poor selectivity towards the valuable C2+ products are the major obstacles for the upscaling of these technologies. High local potassium ions (K+ ) concentration at the cathode's surface can inhibit proton-diffusion and accelerate the desirable carbon-carbon (C-C) coupling process. However, the solubility limit of potassium salts in bulk solution constrains the maximum achievable K+ concentration at the reaction sites and thus the overall acidic CO2 RR performance of most electrocatalysts. In this work, we demonstrate that Cu nanoneedles induce ultrahigh local K+ concentrations (4.22 M) - thus breaking the K+ solubility limit (3.5 M) - which enables a highly efficient CO2 RR in 3 M KCl at pH=1. As a result, a Faradaic efficiency of 90.69±2.15 % for C2+ (FEC2+ ) can be achieved at 1400 mA.cm-2 , simultaneous with a single pass carbon efficiency (SPCE) of 25.49±0.82 % at a CO2 flow rate of 7 sccm.

Abstract
PURPOSE Resin composites are commonly used in pediatric dentistry, but there is limited evidence on adhesion to primary teeth, especially primary enamel. In this study, three bonding strategies were assessed - one-step self-etch (1-SE), two-step self-etch (2-SE), and three-step etch-and-rinse (3-ER) - by measuring the immediate and aged microshear bond strength (µSBS) to sound primary enamel. MATERIALS AND METHODS 120 extracted human primary molars with sound buccal surfaces were used for µSBS testing. Six adhesive protocols (two per bonding strategy) were selected and µSBS was measured either after 24 h or 10,000 thermal cycles (n = 10). Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to determine failure modes. Furthermore, 18 primary molars were etched using the different adhesive protocols (n = 3) for the measurement of surface roughness (Sa) using CLSM and morphological analysis using SEM. RESULTS After 24 h, there was no significant difference in µSBS between 1-SE and 2-SE strategies (p = 0.96), but the 2-SE strategy yielded significantly higher µSBS after thermocycling (p < 0.001). The highest µSBS was obtained using the 3-ER strategy regardless of aging (p < 0.001). The 3-ER strategy clearly exposed enamel prisms and resulted in the highest Sa (p < 0.001). In contrast, if SE strategies were used, enamel prisms were barely recognizable, and Sa was not significantly different from baseline (p > 0.95). CONCLUSION The 3-ER strategy is optimal for bonding to primary enamel. The etching effect of SE strategies is weaker, resulting in lower µSBS. Thermocycling revealed that the bonding durability of the 1-SE strategy is inferior to that of to multi-step strategies.

Abstract
Background and Aim Various methods to accelerate the orthodontic tooth movement have been used, among which corticotomy is considered to be the most common one. The suggested reasoning for such acceleration was the regional acceleratory phenomenon (RAP). Since the RAP is a property of both the hard and soft tissues, we designed a soft tissue flap procedure to compare the effects with the conventional corticotomy procedure. A split-mouth study was conducted where the two procedures were assessed in a single participant. Patients and Methods The total sample size was calculated to be 40 with 20 participants in each group. The rate of tooth movement was the primary outcome measure, and the secondary outcomes were dentoalveolar changes, which were studied in both the conventional corticotomy and the flap-only procedure based on a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) wherein the alveolar bone density (BD) around canines, tipping, and rotational changes in canines, premolars, and molars were assessed. Results Corticotomy resulted in greater canine angulation, lesser canine rotation and premolar rotation, and greater molar rotation compared with flap elevation, but these differences were statistically insignificant. Conclusion Though the corticotomy resulted in higher BD, the differences were statistically insignificant. There was no significant difference in the rate of space closure assessed by the two techniques compared.

Abstract
Root caries is a growing problem for the worldwide aging population. Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) contains high concentrations of silver and fluoride ions, which prevents and arrests root caries, as well as dentin caries in the primary teeth of young children. Unlike other fluoride products that mainly reduce the formation of new carious lesions, 38% SDF is an effective agent that can efficiently arrest the carious process, remineralize the decayed dental tissues, and protect the tooth structure against the formation of new caries lesions. The use of SDF can result in more caries-resistant tooth structures. Despite these merits, its clinical disadvantages are the deep penetration of silver ions and sequential formation of silver compounds, which cause esthetic concern due to the discoloration and impaired efficacy of dentin bonding after using SDF. Thus, this narrative review, by addressing the primary experimental results and clinical applications of SDF on root caries, proposes management methods for root caries in conjunction with the application of SDF. We propose a two-visit treatment protocol to take advantage of the SDF application for root surface caries and utilize the discoloration caused by SDF.

Abstract
Background Adipic acid (AA) is one of the most important industrial chemicals used mainly for the production of Nylon 6,6 but also for making polyurethanes, plasticizers, and unsaturated polyester resins, and more recently as a component in the biodegradable polyester poly(butylene adipate terephthalate) (PBAT). The main route for AA production utilizes benzene as feedstock and generates copious amounts of the greenhouse gas NO2. Hence, alternative clean production routes for AA from renewable bio-based feedstock are drawing increasing attention. We have earlier reported the potential of Gluconobacter oxydans cells to oxidize 1,6-hexanediol, a potentially biobased diol to AA. Results The present report involves a study on the effect of different parameters on the microbial transformation of 1,6-hexanediol to adipic acid, and subsequently testing the process on a larger lab scale for achieving maximal conversion and yield. Comparison of three wild-type strains of G. oxydans DSM50049, DSM2003, and DSM2343 for the whole-cell biotransformation of 10 g/L 1,6-hexanediol to adipic acid in batch mode at pH 7 and 30 °C led to the selection of G. oxydans DSM50049, which showed 100% conversion of the substrate with over 99% yield of adipic acid in 30 h. An increase in the concentrations of the substrate decreased the degree of conversion, while the product up to 25 g/L in batch and 40 g/L in fed-batch showed no inhibition on the conversion. Moreover, controlling the pH of the reaction at 5–5.5 was required for the cascade oxidation reactions to work. Cell recycling for the biotransformation resulted in a significant decrease in activity during the third cycle. Meanwhile, the fed-batch mode of transformation by intermittent addition of 1,6-hexanediol (30 g in total) in 1 L scale resulted in complete conversion with over 99% yield of adipic acid (approximately 37 g/L). The product was recovered in a pure form using downstream steps without the use of any solvent. Conclusion A facile, efficient microbial process for oxidation of 1,6-hexanediol to adipic acid, having potential for scale up was demonstrated. The entire process is performed in aqueous medium at ambient temperatures with minimal greenhouse gas emissions. The enzymes involved in catalyzing the oxidation steps are currently being identified. Abstract
The effect of a surface pre-reacted glass ionomer (S-PRG)-containing sealant on the demineralization inhibition and remineralization of intact enamel adjacent to the sealant material was investigated. BeautiSealant (BTS, S-PRG sealant, Shofu), Teeth Mate F-12.0 (TMF, fluoride-releasing sealant, Kuraray Noritake Dental), and an experimental silica-filler sealant were investigated. After pH cycling for 10 days, the enamel surface adjacent to the sealant material was observed using confocal laser microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The polymerized sealant disks were immersed in a demineralized solution (pH: 4.3) to measure pH change. The enamel specimens with polymerized sealant disks were additionally immersed in demineralized solution, followed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The demineralized area of BTS was significantly smaller than that of TMF and SS (p < 0.05). The surfaces adjacent to the sealant of TMF and SS were demineralized, while the surface of BTS was comparatively intact. An increase in pH values were observed in the BTS and TMF groups. Enamel surfaces presented an inhibition of demineralization for BTS and TMF, but not for SS. Fluoride uptake from the polymerized sealant was greater for BTS than for TMF. The S-PRG-containing sealant showed a buffering ability, demineralization inhibition, promotion of remineralization, and it can be advised for clinical applications.

Abstract
Solar-to-chemical energy conversion via heterogeneous photocatalysis is one of the sustainable approaches to tackle the growing environmental and energy challenges. Among various promising photocatalytic materials, plasmonic-driven photocatalysts feature prominent solar-driven surface plasmon resonance (SPR). Non-noble plasmonic metals (NNPMs)-based photocatalysts have been identified as a unique alternative to noble metal-based ones due to their advantages like earth-abundance, cost-effectiveness, and large-scale application capability. This review comprehensively summarizes the most recent advances in the synthesis, characterization, and properties of NNPMs-based photocatalysts. After introducing the fundamental principles of SPR, the attributes and functionalities of NNPMs in governing surface/interfacial photocatalytic processes are presented. Next, the utilization of NNPMs-based photocatalytic materials for the removal of pollutants, water splitting, CO2 reduction, and organic transformations is discussed. The review concludes with current challenges and perspectives in advancing the NNPMs-based photocatalysts, which are timely and important to plasmon-based photocatalysis, a truly interdisciplinary field across materials science, chemistry, and physics.

Abstract
The WHO informal consultation was held to promote the revision of WHO guidelines on evaluation of similar biotherapeutic products (SBPs) adopted by the Expert Committee on Biological Standardization (ECBS) in 2009. It was agreed in the past consultations that the evaluation principles in the guidelines are still valid, but a review was recommended to provide more clarity and case-by-case flexibility. The opportunity was therefore taken to review the experience and identify areas where the current guidance could be more permissive without compromising its basic principles, and where additional explanation could be provided regarding the possibility of reducing the amount of data needed for regulatory approval. The meeting participants applauded the leading role taken by the WHO in providing a much-needed streamlined approach for development and evaluation of SBPs which will provide efficient and cost-effective product development and increase patient access to treatments. It was recognized that the principles as currently described in the draft WHO guidelines are based on sound science and experience gained over the last fifteen years of biosimilar approvals. However, since these guidelines when finalised will constitute the global standard for biosimilar evaluation and assist national regulatory authorities in establishing revised guidance and regulatory practice in this complex area, it was felt that further revision and clarity on certain perspectives in specific areas was necessary to dispel uncertainties arising in the current revised version. This report describes the principles in the draft guidelines, including topics discussed and consensus reached. WHO guidelines serve as a basis for the development of national regulatory framework for biosimilars. Revision of guidelines is to provide more flexibility and clarification on data required for regulatory approval. Revised guidelines would contribute to improving consistency on regulatory decision and patient access to treatments.

Abstract
Bio‐based 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) serves as an important platform for several chemicals, among which 2,5‐furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) has attracted considerable interest as a monomer for the production of polyethylene furanoate (PEF), a potential alternative for fossil‐based polyethylene terephthalate (PET). This study is based on the HMF oxidizing activity shown by Mycobacterium sp. MS 1601 cells and investigation of the enzyme catalysing the oxidation. The Mycobacterium whole cells oxidized the HMF to FDCA (60% yield) and hydroxymethyl furan carboxylic acid (HMFCA). A gene encoding a novel bacterial aryl alcohol oxidase, hereinafter MycspAAO, was identified in the genome and was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli Bl21 (DE3). The purified MycspAAO displayed activity against several alcohols and aldehydes; 3,5 dimethoxy benzyl alcohol (veratryl alcohol) was the best substrate among those tested followed by HMF. 5‐Hydroxymethylfurfural was converted to 5‐formyl‐2‐furoic acid (FFCA) via diformyl furan (DFF) with optimal activity at pH 8 and 30–40°C. FDCA formation was observed during long reaction time with low HMF concentration. Mutagenesis of several amino acids shaping the active site and evaluation of the variants showed Y444F to have around 3‐fold higher kcat/Km and ~1.7‐fold lower Km with HMF.

Background
Rheumatic mitral stenosis (MS) is a problem in the developing countries. Left atrium (LA) and appendage (LAA) dysfunction are considered determinant factors for thrombus formation even in patients with sinus rhythm (SR). Percutaneous mitral valvotomy (PMV) is a well accepted therapeutic option. However, no available data considers patients with SR as a low risk group for the development of thrombus.
Purpose
Studying short term impact of PMV on P wave morphology, NT-pro BNP as well as LAA properties in patients with MS and SR.
Methods
A prospective study was conducted in a tertiary University hospital including 41 patients with symptomatic uncomplicated MS having favorable morphology with sinus Rhythm. P wave duration, amplitude and dispersion, NT-pro BNP, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography were carried out directly before and 1 month following PMV. Student t-test was used to compare the variables before and after PMV. Correlation was calculated using Pearson's correlation and multivariate regression analysis was used for prediction of unfavorable outcomes.
Results
After PMV, 36 (87.8%) patients had a favorable outcome manifested with improvement of NYHA class, valve area, estimated systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP) as well as grade of spontaneous echo contrast (SEC). P wave duration, P wave amplitude and P wave dispersion decreased after PMV (14.97±2.65 vs. 13.21±2.36 ms, 4.01±1.01 vs. 2.51±0.71 ms and 4.01±1.01 vs. 2.51±0.71mv; P<0.001 respectively). NT pro-BNP also reduced (2.90±2.19 vs. 2.01±1.31 Pg/L; P<0.001). TEE PW of LAA showed increase of early (E LAA) and late (A LAA) emptying velocities after PMV (41.70±19.50 vs. 48.82±20.18 and 31.31±21.99 vs. 38.48±19.86 cm/s; P<0.001 respectively). By TDI, late wall motion (LAA A) velocity increased (7.41±2.50 vs. 8.23±3.01 cm/s; P<0.001) with an improvement of LAA ejection fraction post procedural (50.80±13.11 vs. 55.75±10.12%; P<0.001). Negative correlation between LAA EF and P wave amplitude (r=−0.40; P<0.001) as well as a correlation between reduction in NT pro-BNP and the improvement of both LAA A velocity and E LAA wave were noticed (r=0.55; P=0.02 and 0.01 respectively). The grade of SEC was negatively correlated with E LAA (r=−0.55, P=0.02). Only 5 patients (12.2%) had an unfavorable outcome. Four patients had severe mitral regurge (7.8%), only one patient (2.4%) was indicated for surgery. AF developed in one patient (2.4%). The grade of SEC remains the same in 3 patients (7.3%). Both baseline estimated sPAP and Wilkins score were predictors for unfavorable outcome; sPAP (odd's ratio= 4.08; 95% CI=1.01- 7.17; P=0.04); Wilkins score (odd's ratio= 1.59; 95% CI=1.22- 5.98; P=0.01).
Conclusion
PMV has a favorable rapid impact on LA and LAA properties in patients with MS and SR. Our data suggests that PMV could potentially contribute to lowering the risk of future thromboembolic events in those patients.

Background
Mitral stenosis (MS) results in right ventricular (RV) dysfunction secondary to chronic pulmonary hypertension. Poor outcomes have been reported in patients with persistent chronic RV dysfunction. Persistence RV dysfunction can affect the clinical improvement after percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty (PBMV). Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) is emerged as a highly sensitive technique for assessment of RV function (RVF).
Purpose
To investigate RV function 3 months after PBMV using a variety of robust parameters associated with prognosis.
Methods
A prospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary University hospital included 31 patients with symptomatic uncomplicated MS with favorable morphology and having sinus rhythm who underwent PBMV. All patients were subjected to TTE and CMR examination 24 hours directly before and 3 months after PBMV for assessment of RV size and function.
Results
CMR showed reduced RV myocardial mass (36.1±6.1 vs 28.0±5.4g, P<0.001), RV end-diastolic volume (RV EDV) (123.5±31.3 vs 109.5±22.7 ml, P=0.03) and TR regurgitant fraction (19.6±8.6 vs 14.7±4.9%, P<0.001) On the other hand, there were increase in each of RV ejection fraction (60.0±10.4 vs 63.13±7.8%, P<0.001), RV stroke volume (SV) (50.2±15.1 vs 33.2±12.2 ml, P<0.001) and RV stroke index (44.2±7.7 vs 50.3±8.6 ml/beat/m2 <0.001). TTE showed improved systolic RV function parameters measured by fractional area change (42.1±7.8 vs 51.7±5.4%, P<0.00), Tei Index (0.6±0.1 vs 0.5±0.1, P<0.001) and TAPSE (22.2±3.3 vs 25.7±5.1 mm, P=0.04). Among RV diastolic parameters, there were an increase in TV-TDI E' (12.0±3.0 vs 14.0±2.0 cm/s, P<0.001), TV-TDI A' (13.0±3.0 vs 11.0±2.0 cm/s, P<0.001) and TV-TDI E'/A' (1.0±0.5 vs 1.3±0.3, P<0.001) with significantly decreased RV wall thickness (5.7±0.7 vs 4.3±0.8 mm P<0.001) 3 months after PBMV. Among patients who showing improved RV parameters by TTE, ten patients (32,3%) showed non improved RV end systolic volume, EDV, SV and stroke index by CMR.
Conclusion
Follow-up of RV function by TTE after PBMV yielded nearly similar results compared to CMR. However, CMR identified a subgroup of patient with persistent RV dysfunction 3 months after PBMV. That contributes to define the role of cardiac MRI in the evaluation of the prognosis in patients with MS.

Abstract
The main target of the present research was a full assessment of the toxicity effects and biocompatibility of a Ti/Al-alloy device coated with biogenic hydroxyapatite (bHA) when implanted in dogs in comparison with those of an uncoated Ti/Al-alloy device. The coating of the alloy was carried out using controlled high-velocity suspension flame spray (HVSFS) technique. Both coated and uncoated devices were implanted in dogs' femur bones for different time periods (45 days and 90 days). Bone-formation ability and healing were followed up, and blood analysis was performed, at Time zero (immediately post surgery), and then at 3 days, 45 days, and 90 days post surgery. Bone mineral density checks, radiological scans of the femur bone, and histological analysis were also conducted. The in-vivo study results proved that implantation of a device made from bHA-coated Ti/Al alloy in dogs' femur bones is completely safe. This is due to the high osteoconductivity of the coated alloy, which enables the formation of new bone and a full connection between new and original bone material. At 90 days post surgery, the coated alloy had been completely digested within the original bone; thus, it appeared as a part of the femur bone and not as a foreign body. Both the scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray and histology analysis findings affirmed the results. Furthermore, the blood tests indicated no toxicity effects during the 90 days of implantation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the anti-demineralization potential of a newly developed surface reaction-type pre-reacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) filler containing self-adhesive resin cement against acidic attacks on the dentin surface. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 32 bovine teeth were used. Cavities were prepared on crown dentin slaps and filled with three self-adhesive resin cement: (1) S-PRG-based cement, (2) Si-based cement, and (3) RelyX cement. Specimens were then subjected to pH cycling for 28 days, and the depth of demineralization was assessed using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. Sixty-four root dentin blocks were divided into four groups and then subjected to a pH cycling procedure with the aforementioned three material blocks and one negative control. The mineral loss was observed using transverse microradiography (TMR), and the surface microhardness (SMH) test was conducted to investigate the mechanical properties of treated dentin surfaces. RESULTS The depth of demineralization for the S-PRG-based cement was significantly lower than that of the Si-based cement after 7, 21, and 28 days. Conversely, the RelyX cement was not significantly different from the Si-based cement after 7, 14, and 21 days (p < 0.05). Regarding the TMR and SMH test, the S-PRG-based cement showed the least mineral loss with the highest resistance to acidic challenge. CONCLUSION The S-PRG filler containing resin cement can reduce mineral loss and promote remineralization of dentin substrate and has the potential to preserve dentin integrity and resist acidic attack. Clinical significance Self-adhesive resin cement containing S-PRG fillers maintained the surface integrity of dentin after exposure to 28 days of acidic challenge with a significant anti-demineralization effect.

Abstract
Previous studies have shown that testosterone attenuates stress-induced mood dysfunction and memory deterioration. However, the exact mechanism is still unknown. This study was conducted to investigate the role of long-term testosterone undecanoate on the behavioral responses in AD induced by AlCl3 + D-galactose administration and the possible alteration of the gene expression level of the Na/K ATPase pump. Adult male mice received AlCl3 in drinking water (10 mg/kg/day) and (D-gal 200 mg/kg/day), subcutaneously for 90 consecutive days, then received a single intramuscular (I.M) injection of castor oil (vehicle) on day 91, while treated groups received a single I.M injection of either low (100 mg/kg/45 days) or high dose (500 mg/kg/45 days) respectively of long-acting testosterone undecanoate on day 91. The time spent in the interaction zone during the open field test, preference index to novel objects in the novel object recognition test, spontaneous alternation percentage (SAP) in Y-maze test, and escape latency time in the Morris water maze test were used to measure the locomotor activity, long-term memory, and spatial memory in mice, respectively. The results showed that testosterone undecanoate treatment improved locomotor activity, improved preference to novel objects, improved spatial memory, and reversed anxiety and depression induced by AlCl3 + D-galactose administration in male mice, suggesting the enhancement of behavioral and memory functions brought by testosterone treatment. Moreover, testosterone undecanoate treatment did alter gene expression levels of Na/K ATPase isoforms in the brain hippocampus. In most cases, altered gene expression was significant and correlated with the observed behavioral changes. Taken together, our findings provide new insight into the effects of long-acting testosterone undecanoate administration on locomotor activity, long-term memory, anxiety, and spatial memory in male mice with Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract
This study evaluated the ability of different types of silver diammine fluoride (SDF) to inhibit dentin demineralization using micro-focused X-ray computed-tomography (µCT). Dentin specimens were divided into five groups (n=10); no-treatment (control), 3.8% SDF (RC), 38% SDF, 38% SDF with potassium iodide (SDF/KI), and potassium fluoride (KF). The treated-dentin surfaces were subjected to demineralization for 7-days and assessed using µCT to determine mineral loss (ML) values. Specimens were also analyzed with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The ML values of the SDF and KF groups were significantly lower than those of the RC and SDF/KI groups. EDS detected fluoride ions in the SDF and KF groups but not in the RC and SDF/KI groups. It was concluded that 38% SDF demonstrated a high ability to inhibit dentin demineralization while additional application of KI may diminish the inhibitory effect of SDF. The amount of dentin demineralization with SDF treatments was material dependent.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine whether discoloration of carious dentin after silver-diammine-fluoride (SDF) application might be used as a mean to detect demineralized-dentin. Fourty specimens were obtained from 20 human permanent teeth. Teeth were sectioned through the center of carious lesions to create 2-halves in which each half was assigned to a treatment group. Specimens were divided into two groups (n=20) (each half was assigned to one group) according to solution, namely Caries Check (CC), or SDF. SDF group was subdivided into 2 groups: light-cured and 2-day storage groups. The specimens were tested using light-microscope, microhardness test and SEM/EDS analysis. Repeated-measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. The light-microscope showed superficial discoloration in the CC-group while SDF (2-day storage) group showed deeper discoloration for the lesion area. SDF showed significant increase in the hardness compared with the CC-group. SDF showed potentiality to be used as an assisting-tool for caries detection.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of mechanical abrasion on the surface integrity, color change (ΔE) and antibacterial properties of demineralized and sound dentin surfaces treated with silver-diammine-fluoride (SDF). The dentin specimens were divided into two groups: sound and demineralized dentin, then divided into three sub-groups, control (no-treatment), SDF, and SDF + potassium-iodide (KI). Each sub-group was further divided into two groups, one exposed to mechanical brushing and the other without brushing. Specimens were analyzed for the ΔE, surface roughness/surface loss and antibacterial properties (CFU, optical density and fluorescent microscope). Repeated Measures ANOVA was used for statistical analysis of color change while one-way ANOVA was used for CFU analysis. SDF and SDI + KI groups showed significant reduction in ΔE with brushing in the sound dentin group unlike the demineralized group. The surface roughness values were higher for both SDF and SDF + KI groups but roughness values significantly decreased after brushing. Both SDF and SDF + KI groups revealed significantly less surface loss than control. The SDF group showed high anti-bacterial effect after brushing, unlike SDF + KI group. So, we concluded that mechanical brushing improved the esthetic outcome. While, SDF and SDF + KI could protect the dentin surface integrity. SDF-treated dentin possesses an antibacterial property even after mechanical brushing.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and non-dipping profile, detected by ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM), are two features recorded to be associated with sustained hypertension. Both are predictors of an increased cardiovascular morbidity later in life. Complete normalization of blood pressure (BP) in preeclampsia is detected over a variable period of time.
Methods
A prospective cohort study was conducted in a tertiary university hospital including normotensive women with a history of preeclampsia in the current pregnancy enrolled within the first week postpartum. All cases were subjected to 24 h-ABPM and 2D trans-thoracic echocardiography three months post postpartum concomitantly with a clinical evaluation. Chi2-test was used to compare the qualitative data while student t-test was used to compare the quantitative data. Multivariate regression analysis was used for prediction of non-dippers and diastolic dysfunction in our cohort.
Results
Hundred twenty eight women were included in the study. Their mean age was 28.6±5.1 years and the mean basal BP was 123.1±6.4/74.6±5.9 mm Hg. Out of the studied women, 90 (70.3%) women were dippers and 38 (29.7%) women were non-dippers. It was noticed that diastolic dysfunction was presented in 28 (73.7%) of non-dippers while none of dippers had diastolic dysfunction. Women with severe preeclampsia had higher frequency of non-dipper (35.5% vs. 24.2%; P=0.02) and diastolic dysfunction (29% vs. 15%; P=0.01) in comparison to those women with mild preeclampsia. Severe preeclampsia and previous history of preeclampsia were significant predictors for non-dipping status (OR=1.1, 95% CI: 0.05–10.56 and 1.4, 95% CI: 0.30–4.26 respectively, R2 = 0.7; P<0.001). They were also predictors for diastolic dysfunction in our studied population (OR = 1.6, 95% CI: 1.1–2.2 and 1.3, 95% CI: 1.2–2.2 respectively, R2 = 0.6; P<0.05).
Conclusion
Women with a history of preeclampsia have the risk for developing cardiovascular events later in life. The severity and recurrence of preeclampsia were significant predictors for both non-dipping profile and diastolic dysfunction.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study investigated the ability of a surface prereacted glass-ionomer (S-PRG) coating material to inhibit the biofilm formation and demineralization of dentin. METHODS AND MATERIALS Dentin specimens were randomly divided into three groups: (1) no coating (control), (2) S-PRG filler-containing coat, and (3) a nonS-PRG filler-containing coat. Streptococcus mutans biofilms were grown on the dentin surfaces in a microcosm for 20 h. Then, the quantity of bacteria and water-insoluble glucan in the retained biofilm on the dentin surface were measured. Regarding demineralization inhibition test, specimens were demineralized for 5 days then sectioned into halves and observed under confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). One-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS The estimated mean surface roughness for specimens in the S-PRG group was statistically significantly higher than the estimates for both the nonS-PRG and the control group specimens. The quantity of bacteria and water-insoluble glucan/mm2 revealed that the S-PRG group prevented biofilm formation and bacterial adhesion to the dentin surface compared with the control and nonS-PRG groups. The S-PRG group recorded the highest acid-resistance ability with no surface loss. CONCLUSION Application of S-PRG barrier coat on dentin surfaces can inhibit biofilm formation as well as protecting the dentin surface against demineralization. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE Coating material containing S-PRG fillers might be used for caries prevention, through inhibiting biofilm formation, enhancing mineralization, and reducing acidic attack by cariogenic bacteria.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using extra virgin olive oil (Olea europaea L.) and sunflower oil (Helianthus annuus L.) and characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The brown color solution of olive oil nanoparticles (EVOO-NPs) and sunflower oil nanoparticles (SFO-NPs) showed typical absorption at 418 nm and 434 nm respectively. The morphology of extra virgin olive oil was found to be in semi cubic shapes with particle size of 23.45 nm (XRD) and 42.30 nm (SEM) while particle size of (SFO-NPs) had 42.30 nm (XRD) and 46.80 nm (SEM). Antimicrobial activities of crude extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), crude sunflower oil (SFO), synthesized nanoparticle from (EVOO-NPs) and (SFO-NPs) against human pathogenic strains were investigated. Synthesized nanoparticle from each oil showed a potent antimicrobial activity against all tested micro-organisms than crude oil which increased by (81.14% to 174.65 %) and by (111.65% to 192.31 %) than (EVOO) and (SFO) respectively. Both (EVOO-NPs) and (EVOO) had more antimicrobial activities than (SFO-NPs) and (SFO). EVOO (NPs) and SFO (NPs) showed maximum antibacterial activities against K. pneumoniae. Therefore (EVOO-NPs) and (SFO-NPs) could be used as safe natural product against multidrug resistant microbes.

Abstract
Highly porous sodium geopolymer structures were successfully produced through the chemical direct foaming approach at ambient temperature. The impact of the thermal treatment, as well as the influence of various additions of hydrogen peroxide, as a foaming agent, on the porosity, microstructure and mechanical characteristics of the produced geopolymers was investigated. The evaluation of bioactivity was carried out by assessing the formation of an apatite layer on the samples' surface, using scanning electronic microscopy and inductively coupled plasma spectrometry for the simulated body fluid solution, in which the geopolymer samples were kept up to 28 days. In addition, the biodegradability was estimated through the weight change of the samples and pH-measurements. The results demonstrated that the geopolymer foams, produced using 4.5 vol% H2O2 and heat-treated at 500 °C for 1 h, possessed a high open porosity (71 vol %), excellent compressive strength (3.56 ± 0.27 MPa), and suitable chemical stability. The pH value of SBF solutions, in which these geopolymers were immersed for 28 days, remained close to the physiological one. The in vitro study indicated that the developed geopolymer foams possessed bioactivity, as demonstrated by the formation of apatite particles on their surface after immersion in the simulated body fluid solution for 28 days.

Abstract
Two robust and selective stability-indicating chromatographic methods were developed and validated for the determination of metolazone in drug substance and pharmaceutical dosage form in the presence of its degradation products. The HPLC method employed a Kromasil C18 (250 × 4.6,5 μm) column and a mobile phase of acetonitrile: 0.2% orthophosphoric acid (32:68 v/v) at a flow rate 2 mL/min and detection at 238 nm. The separation was performed in HPLC isocratic mode. The robustness of the suggested method was assessed using the Plackett-Burman design, parameters affecting system suitability were established and non-significant intervals for the significant parameters were considered. The HPTLC method employed Nano-SIL-20 UV254 HPTLC plates as adsorbent, ethyl acetate: toluene: acetic acid solution (4:4:0.5, v/v/v), as a developing solvent system and densitometric detection at 238 nm. Metolazone was exposed to different stress conditions, including acid and alkaline hydrolysis and oxidative and photolytic degradation. The main degradation products obtained have been characterized and interpreted based on LC-MS. The linearity of the suggested methods was proved in the concentration range of 20-75 μg/mL for the HPLC method and 100-900 ng/spot for the HPTLC method. The suggested methods were validated according to international conference on harmonization guidelines. These methods were successfully dedicated for the estimation of metolazone in drug substance and pharmaceutical dosage form in the presence of its degradation products. The results of the suggested methods were evaluated and compared statistically with results obtained by an official method without finding any significant difference.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dimensional accuracy of crowns fabricated using a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) dental model. METHODS An intraoral scanner (LAVA TDS) was used to scan a prepared molar abutment as a master model. The STL file obtained from the scanning process was transferred into the FDM 3D printer (Value 3D Magix MF-1000) and then models were fabricated with PVA filament. In order to compare with the conventional method, an impression of the master model was taken using silicone impression material to fabricate the conventional stone cast model (Conv). An indirect resin composite (Gradia) and self-cured acrylic resin (Curergrace) were used to fabricate crowns (n = 20) according to the manufacturer's instructions. Surface accuracy of the Conv and PVA models and internal accuracy of the crowns set on the models were measured using two methods; 3D digital analysis and silicon-fitting evaluation. Statistical analysis of the results was done using t-test and Willcoxon signed rank test with Bonferroni correction at 5% significance. RESULTS Digital analysis showed the Root Mean Square (RMS) value of PVA model surface was higher than that of Conv, while there was no significant difference between the two crown materials. However, the silicon-fitting analysis showed marginal discrepancy of crowns fabricated on PVA model were within 100 µm. CONCLUSION 3D printed PVA model can be used for chairside crown fabrication with an acceptable accuracy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the penetration depth of silver into sound and demineralized dentin after application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF). METHODS Two hundred and eighty-eight dentin specimens were used. The specimens were divided into 3 groups: (1) sound dentin (control), (2) 30min EDTA-treated dentin; and (3) 13h EDTA-treated dentin. SDF was applied to all specimens. Each group was divided into 3 subgroups according to storage time into: 24h, 2 weeks and 1-year storage time. Each subgroup was further divided into four subgroups (n=8) according to different examinations as optical microscope (OM) observation, scanning electron microscopic (SEM) observation, elemental analysis with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Micro-PIXE test. RESULTS The OM showed discoloration in the superficial layer after 24h and keep extending deeper after 2 weeks and 1-year. SEM showed silver crystals within dentinal tubules after 2 weeks and 1-year. EDS analysis can detect silver penetration only in the 1-year group reaching around 1200μm inside dentin. Micro-PIXE test detected silver at all time intervals, confirming the EDS depth results. SIGNIFICANCE It can be concluded that silver ions can completely infiltrate the demineralized dentin lesion with further penetration into the underlying mineralized dentin.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of two hemostatic agents on bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) to root dentin after using different pretreatment solutions compared to resin composite with a 2-step self-etch adhesive. Dentin specimens were either uncontaminated or contaminated with a ferric sulphate or aluminum chloride astringent, RMGIC was applied after conditioning with; Cavity Conditioner, Self Conditioner or Clearfil SE Primer, while a resin composite was bonded using Clearfil SE Bond. Microtensile bond strength (μTBS) values and failure modes were determined. Two-way ANOVA revealed that hemostatic agents did not significantly affect the RMGIC bond strength with any conditioning material (p>0.05). SE Primer pretreatment provided the highest μTBS values among RMGIC groups. For the resin composite, ferric sulphate astringent significantly reduced μTBS value (p≤0.001). Scanning electron micrographs of representative dentin surfaces contaminated with the hemostatic agents showed effects on smear layer removal and dentinal tubule occlusion.

Abstract
This report presents an integrated biorefinery concept in which wheat straw hydrolysate was treated with co-cultures of osmotolerant thermophilic bacterial strains, Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus and C. owensensis to obtain hydrogen, while the liquid effluent containing acetate and residual glucose was used as feed for polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production by Ralstonia eutropha. The Caldicellulosiruptor spp. co-culture consumed 10.8 g/L of pretreated straw sugars, glucose and xylose, producing 134 mmol H2/L. PHB accumulation by R. eutropha was first studied in minimal salts medium using acetate with/without glucose as carbon source. Addition of salts promoted cell growth and PHB production in the effluent. Fed-batch cultivation in a nitrogen limited medium with 40% (v/v) aeration resulted in a cell density of 15.1 g/L with PHB content of 80.1% w/w and PHB concentration of 12.1 g/L, while 20% aeration gave a cell density of 11.3 g/L with 83.4% w/w PHB content and 9.4 g/L PHB concentration.

Abstract
The objective was to evaluate the effect of application of silver diamine fluoride (SDF) on discoloration of demineralized dentin over time. Dentin specimens were divided into four groups according to time of dentin demineralization. A 38% SDF solution was then applied to the dentin surfaces. Half of the specimens were placed in light-proof boxes while the remainder were exposed to light. Both groups were maintained at 37˚C. Color change was determined using a spectrophotometer at different time intervals. SEM/EDS analysis were also undertaken. The 13 h EDTA demineralized group showed the highest values for color change among different time intervals, with the control being the lowest. The light exposed groups showed more color change compared to the unexposed groups. We concluded that the degree of dentin demineralization leads to a significant increase of the rate of dentin color change after application of SDF.

Abstract
Bisphenol A, (2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane, BPA)-free polycarbonate (PC) from six-membered di-cyclic carbonate, di-trimethylolpropane di-cyclic carbonate (DTMPC) was developed as a new type of PC by ring opening homo-polymerization. The polymerization was controlled by using metal-free organic-based catalyst systems. The results indicated that the conversion rate depends on the basicity of the catalyst in the order of 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD), 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene (DBU), 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP), triethylamine (TEA) from high to low. Over 99% conversion of DTMPC was obtained at 130°C within 15 min by TBD, DBU and DMAP. The resulting PC as a homo-polymer showed high optical transparency and hardness, low swelling property in organic solvents, and thermally stable at temperatures as high as 200 °C. High cell viability as the cyto-compatibility of C3H 10T1/2 cells seeded directly on the surface of PC films was obtained. This implied that PC is a viable material for biomedical and consumer products applications where safety is an important consideration.

Abstract
The target of the recent study is to achieve a significant inexpensive and eco-friendly way for getting ZTA/HA composites, based on the nano-HA derived from the eggshell biogenic source. Combining simultaneously the porous structure; which is considered as a bone formation key, with developed mechanical properties and adequate biocompatibility, is another purpose of this study. Furthermore, the impact of ZTA addition from 10-30 mass-%, fabricated by uniaxial pressing and sintering at 1200-1300 °C for 2 h, on the physical and mechanical properties, microstructure and phase composition of ZTA/HA composite bodies was investigated. The results demonstrated that the increasing of ZTA content increases the bodies' apparent porosity and decreases the bulk density due to the decomposition of HA into β-TCP. Where the formation of β-TCP possessed the predominant impact on the mechanical properties of the sintered ZTA/HA composites. ICP, SEM, EDX and thin film XRD results of composites containing 20 mass-% ZTA affirmed the excellent bioactivity of the bodies.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of Glutathione (GSH) bio-molecule on the reduction of enamel and dentin discoloration after application of 38% silver diammine fluoride solution (SDF). One hundred and twenty bovine teeth specimens were used. The enamel and dentin specimens were divided into three groups: (1) SDF only (control); (2) SDF followed by application of a potassium iodide solution (KI); and (3) SDF mixed with 20% GSH. Half the specimens were exposed to light and the remainder kept in dark conditions (n = 10) Color changes were measured using a spectrophotometer at the following time intervals: before solution application (baseline) and immediately after application, then 3, 6, 24, 48, 72 h, and 7, 10 and 14 days. SEM/EDS analysis was performed on treated enamel and dentin. Statistical analysis was done using a repeated measures ANOVA test. The spectrophotometer results showed that the SDF group exhibited the greatest color changes under both light exposed and dark conditions, while SDF + GSH group was effective in decreasing the color changes in both light and dark conditions. The SDF + KI group showed an insignificant color changes over time. SEM/EDS analysis showed different patterns for the silver crystal formation in each group (SDF, SDF + GSH, and SDF + KI group). It was concluded GSH can effectively minimize color changes after application of SDF, especially on enamel and to a lesser extent on dentin.

Abstract
Multifunctional chemicals including hydroxycarboxylic acids are gaining increasing interest due to their growing applications in the polymer industry. One approach for their production is a biological selective oxidation of polyols, which is difficult to achieve by conventional chemical catalysis. In the present study, trimethylolpropane (TMP), a trihydric alcohol, was subjected to selective oxidation using growing cells of Corynebacterium sp. ATCC 21245 as a biocatalyst and yielding the dihydroxy-monocarboxylic acid, 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)butyric acid (BHMB). The study revealed that co-substrates are crucial for this reaction. Among the different evaluated co-substrates, a mixture of glucose, xylose and acetate at a ratio of 5:5:2 was found optimum. The optimal conditions for biotransformation were pH 8, 1v/v/m airflow and 500rpm stirring speed. In batch mode of operation, 70.6% of 5g/l TMP was converted to BHMB in 10 days. For recovery of the product the adsorption pattern of BHMB to the anion exchange resin, Ambersep(®) 900 (OH(-)), was investigated in batch and column experiments giving maximum static and dynamic binding capacities of 135 and 144mg/g resin, respectively. BHMB was separated with 89.7% of recovery yield from the fermentation broth. The approach is applicable for selective oxidation of other highly branched polyols by biotransformation.

Abstract
Purpose Despite the therapeutic advances, disease recurrence remains an ever-present threat to the health and well-being of breast cancer survivors. Assessment of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cancer stem cells (CSCs) during and after treatment may be of value in refining treatment. Methods Three 5 mL blood samples were taken from each patient: the first, at diagnosis; the second, after completion of neoadjuvant anthracyclin-based chemotherapy; and the third, a month after surgery and completion of adjuvant radiotherapy. The absolute numbers of CTCs were identified as CD45-cytokeratin+ cells. CTCs per 5 mL of blood were determined by recording all events in the whole suspension. CSCs were identified as cytokeratin+CD44+CD24-/CD45- cells. The CSCs were expressed as a percentage of CTCs. Results Univariate analysis identified the measurements of baseline CTCs and CSCs, taken after chemotherapy and one month after the cessation of radiotherapy, as prognostic factors for both four-year disease-free survival and four-year overall survival. Multivariable analysis identified the third measurement of CSCs, taken one month after the completion of radiotherapy, as the only independent prognostic factor for the four-year disease-free survival (P < 0.002, hazard ratio [HR] = 1.231, 95% CI 1.077–1.407). The initial CTC measurement was the one factor that reached significance on multivariate analysis (P < 0.03, HR 1.969, 95% CI 1.092–3.551) for the four-year overall survival. Correlation was higher between CTC and CSC counts at diagnosis (r = 0.654, P < 0.001) than after chemotherapy (r = 0.317, P < 0.03), because of the more rapid decrease in the mean CTC count with chemotherapy. Conclusion The CTC count could be suitable as one of the measures for monitoring response to chemotherapy, while persistence of CSC after cessation of the treatment of nonmetastatic breast cancer, except hormonal therapy when indicated, may be a reason to consider additional therapy in the future. These findings need confirmation in larger randomized trials.

Abstract
The "fit for pisa" intervention implemented daily physical education at five primary schools in Göttingen. The results of the evaluation show an increase in physical activity among the students participating in the programme. At the same time sedentary behaviour, like watching television, decreased remarkably. In the long run the promotion of an active lifestyle had improved the body mass index. The study emphasises the need for government funding to implement the programme across the country.
