Abstract
Monoamine oxidase plays a significant role in the control of intracellular concentration of monoaminergic neurotransmitters or neuromodulators and dietary amines. The rapid degradation of these molecules ensures the proper functioning of synaptic neurotransmission and is critically important for the regulation of emotional and other brain functions. The development of human MAO inhibitors led to important breakthroughs in the therapy of several neuropsychiatric disorders. Different families of heterocycles containing 2 or 4 nitrogen atoms have been used as scaffolds for synthesizing selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors, but the early period of the MAO-inhibitors started with hydrazine derivatives. Pyrazole, pyrazoline, and pyrazolidine derivatives can be considered as a cyclic hydrazine moiety. This scaffold also displayed promising antidepressant and anticonvulsant properties as demonstrated by different and established animal models. Diversely substituted pyrazoles, embedded with a variety of functional groups, are important biological agents and a significant amount of research activity has been directed towards this chemical class.

Abstract
The Double Chooz experiment presents an indication of reactor electron antineutrino disappearance consistent with neutrino oscillations. An observed-to-predicted ratio of events of 0.944±0.016(stat)±0.040(syst) was obtained in 101 days of running at the Chooz nuclear power plant in France, with two 4.25 GW(th) reactors. The results were obtained from a single 10 m(3) fiducial volume detector located 1050 m from the two reactor cores. The reactor antineutrino flux prediction used the Bugey4 flux measurement after correction for differences in core composition. The deficit can be interpreted as an indication of a nonzero value of the still unmeasured neutrino mixing parameter sin(2)2θ(13). Analyzing both the rate of the prompt positrons and their energy spectrum, we find sin(2)2θ(13)=0.086±0.041(stat)±0.030(syst), or, at 90% C.L., 0.017<sin(2)2θ(13)<0.16.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Introduction of advanced therapeutic modalities for diaphragmatic congenital hernia (CDH) has allowed to reach considerable improvements in survival rate. Nevertheless, there are few studies which analyze the clinical evolution of the long-term survivors. The aim of this work is to analyze the outcomes of the patients with CDH in our hospital. METHODS Fifty-five neonates with CDH were treated in our center between 1998 and 2005. We included in the study those patients that were alive at the moment of first hospital discharge (72%; n=40 patients). ECMO therapy was needed in 6 of them during neonatal treatment. A descriptive transverse review of the clinical record as well as a telephonic interview to the parents was performed for the respiratory, cardiological, digestive and neurological conditions, following standard diagnostic studies in every case. The mean age of the children in the moment of the study was 4.2 years (1-9). RESULTS The 8.3% of the children needed domiciliary oxygen therapy during a maximum of 3 months in all the cases. 22% of the cases suffered from respiratory problems, being bronchiolitis and pneumonia the most frequent diagnoses. Only a patient developed asthma. The gastroesophageal reflux is the most frequent long-term condition (47%), but only 8.3% needs surgical treatment. Regarding to cardiological problems, 14% developed pulmonary hypertension, being slight - moderate in all the cases but in one case who was the only deceased of the series. Regarding to neurological problems only 1 patient developed serious alterations (brain paralysis), having suffered a hemorrhage parenquimatosa during the treatment with ECMO. No other patient presents motor, visual nor auditory alterations in the development, last mild alteration in language (4 patients). Differences do not exist with the group of patients that did not need ECMO during the treatment in cardiological and digestive complications, being higher percentage with respiratory problems. CONCLUSION In our sample only 2 patients present serious sequels (5%). Of this preliminary study we can conclude that the comorbility in the CDH is very low having these patient a good development and good quality of life.

Abstract
The direct HPLC enantioseparation of five pairs of new chiral pyrazole derivatives on coated cellulose- and amylose-based chiral stationary phases (Chiralpak AD, Chiralcel OJ and Chiralcel OJ-RH) and new immobilised amylose-based Chiralpak IA CSP was performed. Very high enantioselectivity factor (alpha) values were achieved in polar organic and reversed-phase conditions by using OJ-RH as CSP. Chiralpak IA exhibited an excellent chiral resolving ability in normal-phase mode and it allowed the enantioseparation of analytes investigated with resolution factors (Rs) >20. Due to its bonded nature, it was successfully employed at analytical and semipreparative scale in combination with normal-phase eluents containing "non-standards" solvents such as acetone.

Abstract
In order to develop new anti-Helicobacter pylori agents, a series of N1-substituted 3,5-diphenyl pyrazolines P1-P13 was prepared and evaluated for their antibacterial activity. All synthesized compounds showed little or no activity against different species of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria of clinical relevance and against various strains of pathogenic fungi. The same derivatives exhibited a significant degree of activity against a range of H. pylori strains, including those resistant to the reference compound metronidazole. Among the prepared compounds those with an N1-acetyl group and a 4-methoxy substituent in the 5-phenyl ring showed the best activity against H. pylori metronidazole resistant strains in the 1-4 microg/mL MIC range.

Abstract
Following studies on the properties of spontaneous plants in Sardinia we have evaluated the tissue regenerating action of a mixture of oily extracts of Hypericum perforatum and Calendula arvensis on surgical wounds from childbirth with caesarean section.

Abstract
Several 5-alkyl, 5-alkenyl, 5-iso-alkyl, 5-halo, 5-aminomethyl and 5-carboxy derivatives of S-DABOs (dihydro-alkyl (or cyclo-alkyl)thio-benzyloxopyrimidines), DATNOs (dihydro-alkylthionaphthylmethyl-oxopyrimidines) and F2-S-DABOs (dihydro-alkyl (or cyclo-alkyl)thio-2,6-difluorobenzyl-oxopyrimidines) have been prepared and tested as anti-HIV-1 agents. S-DABO derivatives bearing at C-6 position monosubstituted phenylmethyl or heteroarylmethyl units have also been synthesized. 2-Alkylthio-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-4(3H)-one derivatives of F2-S-DABO series bearing small alkyl groups at C-5 proved to be potent inhibitors of HIV-1 replication in vitro with selectivity indexes ranging from 250 to >2,500.
